Just increasing the time is fun and all, but maybe once you reach a certain comfort level getting a bigger recovery bonus or smth

You could also look at maybe getting one of the Gizmo mods. Which ever one is most recently updated. 😄

I couldn't do exactly as I wanted, bc WDB can't access the particular prefab I want, but it opened up a new world of customization to the server. 10/10 recommend.

playing modded at the moment and all portals bugged out and now say that an evil force is blocking the portal

Sounds like you downloaded a mod without reading the mod description or understanding what the mod does.
Hey. If this has been asked to death here, my apologies. I'll delete it and ask elsewhere.
I was all about playing Vanilla a year or two ago when I tried the game. Now I feel like the I need some qol mods to make the gameplay more smooth. Not looking to change the game at it's core. Just want to make graphics more crisp/better, be able to put the item bar at the bottom, and maybe make the UI more beginner friendly.
Anyone know of any mods that may get things going? Just want mods that improve qol. Not change or add game mechanics nor make the game easier.

I'm looking for a mod that'll let me build in the spawn area - really I just want to flatten dirt around the area specifically but keep getting blocked. I'm aware of the JustBuildAnywhere mod - or something along those lines - but noticed it hasn't been updated in a few months. Does anyone know if this mod will work or does anyone have an alternative solution possibly? Thank you for any help
After the last update, I'd be surprised if it still works. You might be better off waiting till the creator updates it.
You could try InfinityHammer. I think it will let you build and modify terrain in the spawn area. Make sure you have world backups. It's a powerful mod. 🙂
Hey all, new to the discord. Reinstalled Valheim yesterday and picked up a server from dathost. First time trying mods. Picked up some from thunderstore but when I went to start the game is said incompatible version. After about 3 hours of trying to figure it out on my own I removed em and the server booted back up. Any recommendations on how to maybe resolve this, as I'm definitely not an expert. I'm extremely new to modded servers. Also, does everyone on my server need to download the mods from thunderstore or just myself since I put them in the server? Thank you!
Bear in mind we only recently had a new game patch which made many modules out of date. Check their last updated date and try and avoid those that weren't updated in the last week.

Thank you, I'll look into that mod. I see it says "Build without restrictions. Dungeons and even the start temple become valid for building." in the description but it's unclear to me if it'll extend to terrain manipulation. I'll have to test this tonight

Mods you want to be on the server, which might include things like new gear, mobs, building pieces, should also be on the client. Client side mods are just that, client side, and don't have to be installed on server.
Incompatible version for what? The game version between you and the server, or a mod discrepancy? Either way, all need to be the same version. Hope this helps, modding can feel overwhelming at first.
You could go to thunderstore.io, join their Valheim community, and search there for "skills" and see what mods come up. If you do find a mod, make sure that it's been updated since April 10th.

It just pops up "incompatible version" when I try to log onto the server. Just tried with a modpack that was updated on the 15th and still having the same issue. I have no idea what the issue is. I'm not well versed enough on modded servers to be able to troubleshoot it myself.
Have you installed mods on the server or just on your game? Do you have any problem with your solo game?
So I think I have it almost figured out....I load the modpacks into dathost, and for the first time I clicked on start modded on thunderstore. It says running bepinex now and 27 plugins.....however, I get an error now that MagicPlugin is not installed on the server, but I see it being installed on the server list
Maybe the server and your game have two different versions of that mod.
I'm so confused now, not as much as before, but none the less lol. There's so many magicplug in options in thunderstore. Not quite sure what to do

When you see the error about the MagicPlugin mod, does the error msg give you the version numbers?

Ok, so I saw when I clicked start modded, the bepin exe was running and it said magicplugin 1.9.1 was loaded. However, I still get the same message when trying to connect to the server. Says "Incompatible version" MagicPlugin is not installed on the server. It's not showing me any version #'s though on the menu
Version 1.9.1 is the correct current version of that mod. The server apparently has an older version and that's what it's complaining about. You'll need to put the current version on the server.
As to my knowledge, that's the one that is on the server. I'm using dathost as my server host. Not sure if you're familiar witht that at all. All I do is drag the bepin plugin folder to the plugin section and it does the rest.

Be sure you're reading the error msgs correctly. That msg can be confusing and you need to read it carefully.
When you look at the server's plugins folder, and find the MagicPlugin mod there, can you open up the mod's folder and read the manifest file which contains it's version number?
Yea it shows 1.9.1
Then, the error msg seems to be complaining about one of the other mods.
Gonna try one more thing, I was trying individual install on the server settings, gonna try the whole modpack at once and see if I have a different outcome
If that doesn't straighten it out, take a screenshot of the error msg and post it here.

MagicPlugin is a stand-alone mod that's being used by the modpak's author to also work for his modpak. Other modpaks and solo users use it, too.
If you wanted to, you could remove it from your game and the server. But it doesn't sound like that mod's causing the error.

A thought... You are stopping the server to add mods, then rebooting, correct? Mods can't be adjusted while the server is live.

I got the error msg. It's very clear that it's complaining about the MagicPlugin mod not being installed on the server. Doesn't mention the version at all. Just that it's not installed.
So, that makes me think the server isn't loading it properly even if it's there in the server's plugins folder. You can try removing it from the server and re-adding it there. And, if that doesn't work, either remove it from your game as well and find a similar mod to use to replace it. Or, maybe even put in a ticket with Dathost and see if they can resolve it for you.
Ok, I'll see if maybe I can try another similar mod to replace it and see what happens. Would I try with any of the ones that pop up with a similar name in thunderstore?

Yes, read their descriptions and find one that has been updated since April 10th and does basically the same things as the MagicPlugin mod does.

There was yea. I removed it server side and my side and seeing what happens
Just to clarify, you opened the folder and saw the .dll? I've seen it happen where they just disappear and we get the incompatibility issues. A manual download and planting the .dll where it needs to be usually fixed it.

The will be a Saves folder with world_local and characters_local. Move your character to local save in the game menu, go to the file, and drop the .fch into character_local on server.

I wonder, so in game it says that the character.old is saved to local, but I didn't copy the .old file over. Could that be the issue?

I think I remember what I did to make characters work... Moved all my character files off the cloud, then moved them out of my game folder (saving a copy), and made sure to delete the character in game menu. Then started a new character with the same name you put in the server files.
Gotcha, everything went to hell lol. Everytime I logged out it was saying I had to make a new character. As much as I want to use mod's, i'm just throwing in the towel right now on em lol
If you're just playing with friends, I'm not so sure you really want ServerCharacters anyway. It's normally used to prevent cheating, like going to a 1p world and trying to bring mats back in. If you trust your group, then disable it. I haven't experienced anything requiring a new character each time.

Oh, but you're so close! It's a steep learning curve, and we just had a patch, so it's understandable to feel like it's being chaotic. If and when you're ready to try it again, plenty of people in here to help. I'm just one guy speaking from experiences, a lot of others have real knowledge. I suggest keeping at it, but I understand prioritizing wanting to play! lol

I once had to reinstall everything mid-season and rebuild from the ground up, because we were trying to reuse some old config files, which were not updated to match the mod version we were on. Spent like 9 hours straight rewriting just about everything we had customized on the server. Mind you, I also manage 142 mods (it's a lot, I know!), but only about 60 are actually required. You can do it!

You can use an in-game configuration manager and a lot of mods will respond to those changes immediately. Maybe not all but some, anyway.

Seasons/Seasonality. They add so much more life to the world and also change the gameplay loop. You'll have to prepare for Winter for example, and it can become more of a survival game
+1 for seasonality. I'm not changing it up gameplay wise too much right now, just enjoying the changing scenery. But the options are there to have the season impact your gameplay quite a bit, which I will definitely use in a future play through.
I prefer Seasonality over the 'Seasons' mod by Shudnal just because Seasonality uses new textures for grass, trees, bushes etc and is much better visually than Seasons which just changes the existing textures colours.

Does anyone know if there's a mod that causes all players' maps to update when someone explores something new or places a pin on the map?
Well met, Vikings. I come before thee with the noobiest of noob queries. It’s my first time installing mods on a dedicated server (dropped .dll files in ‘BepInEx > plugins’) and despite every effort, none of them want to load when running the game on Steam Deck. My logs say BepInEx loaded as intended, and there were no errors with any mods. Anybody here have experience with joining dedicated servers from Steam Deck? Do I need to also have mods installed ON my deck? Isn’t that redundant? Am I just hella dumb? Thank you in advance, fellow warriors.
Check the individual mod's web pages to see which are 'Client', 'Server', or both. Over 90% of mods do need to be on both. For Valheim, the server doesn't do much processing itself. It mostly communicates material processed by the clients out to the other clients. 🙂

Hello friends and buddies. A mate and I are playing with a few quality of life mods like epic look, but what if we wanna add new zones from a mod like Monstrum?
I downloaded the modpack and went to Ashlands, and it wasn't updated (haven't visited it prior)
Instructions are in the README in Monstrum. You'll need Upgrade World.
Just curious, me and a few friends have a server and have added a few mods, the target portal mod never works for us whenever the game resets or you leave you can no longer see any other portals unless you visit them by foot. I tried a different mod to add another type of portals and thought I'd try join the game with the new, very similar modpack, and it let me join and I could even place the stuff from the mod that wasn't on the server side. How does this work and can I play with any mods I want separatly and does anyone know a fix for the target portal mod??

but yes, like any other update, there are mods that work and those that do not. The maintained mods are likely already being updated (internally) and some just work

Got it. I've never seen that error before. But the first thing I'd do with that, would be to re-verify the game files and delete and re-install the BepInEx mod. But it could also easily be caused by one or another of the mods it's trying to load. If so, you'll need to load/disable them one at a time to find the culprit.

That shouldn't be a surprise. Mods haven't had enough of a chance to even start to consider the updates that would make them compatible with the Ashlands update, which doesn't even have an ETA actual date yet to be a game patch..
I need to update BuildPieces because the planters broke.

It would help if you told what modpak's you've already tried and didn't work for you. Otherwise, you could just go to thunderstore.io and search modpaks there for those updated since April 10th.
Heyo i didnt rly tried to play a modpack bc all almost evertime i tried a modpack i got the issue that i cant create a character
Unless you've had exceptionally bad luck selecting modpaks, and are ignoring their update dates, the problem is sounding more and more as though it is with something you are or aren't doing with them rather than caused by them. All modpaks aren't bad. Most modpaks aren't bad. The modpaks that are bad aren't those that are currently updated by their authors.
Please explain exactly what happens when you try to create a character with modpaks. Have you been trying to use modpaks that include the ServerCharacters mod in them without you knowing it? And are you using a mod manager with your modpack experiences?
Hey yeah the proplem was, that everytime i tried to create a caracter, no button/slider would work,and all the characters i had, had the same skin. It was like, that all the progress on all character was just deleted. And at the start i tried the Vortex mod launcher but now im on the r2roadman launcher
Which modpaks caused the character creation problem?
I'm not sure if all these packs are ready after the last game update to 217.46, but if they aren't now they will be updated eventually..

Oh, for mod builders I agree. I was more thinking of the fact that any feedback from someone with mods could be down to the vanilla game OR the mods which makes it kinda useless to the devs.
Yeah, if you plan to give feedback to the devs then having any mods can taint your feedback
Target Portal does work on the PTB, and is an unofficial solution for the named portals being broken there, especially useful on dedicated servers with multiple players where a constant relog wont work.

Server_devcommands v1.77.0 by JereKuusela should work with PTB, a lot of mods actually work on the PTB, compiling a list now

Nice, all my mods works on Ashlands and I only have to update MagicalMounts, PortalPlane and Buildpieces.
This to fix the non-clickable build menu and the planters but the rest of the mods doesn't need updating.

I’ve installed monsterlabz, got to a portal which brought me on some floating island in the sky. There, a stone tells me “enchant iron sword with the hand of frigga”. I’m very confused, what am I supposed to do?
I'm only guessing here but I'd suggest going back home until you get an Iron Sword and the hand of Frigga. 😄

You probably could find it with devcommands but it's better to just do the exploring. You might run into another mini-boss or two on the way. And, if you want to meet some new friends, do some exploring at night, too.

There is also PlanBuild. I've barely even tried either of these, and not recently, so I'm not sure which you'd wanna go for. But as I understand it, BuildShare is a pretty straightforward copy tool, whereas planbuild has something to do with creating a blueprint that helps you replicate a building preset, bit by bit, but you still have to build and pay for it, so it's more immersive while being a quality of life improver. Infinity Hammer should be up to date, and for the record, is generally a great utility for removing object, and rescaling objects. It's finnicky, but actually really liberating to be able to modify the dimensions of objects, let's you make stuff like 1.5m stairs, and other oddly proportioned pieces.
Also, PlanBuild looks more up-to-date compared to BuildShare, so that might also be an alternative.

so all of them is kind of connected and some are just different and shouldnt intervene i think

Well, the monsterlabz mod introduces new creatures including spiders. And according to the mod's web page instructions:
"A handful of the creatures spawn by default, for the rest you can configure the spawns with spawnthat or use a configuration manager ingame"
I don't know if monsterlabz mod uses rune stones or not. And I don't know if the spiders would appear by default or need to be configured in.

Wierd thing is that in the map you now have this kinda well with a portal at the end, that brings you on some small floating island that has these red runes tones which give hints about making enchanted weapons with the trophies of these minibosses

it is the first time i use mod for valheim (or any games) so it is very likely i messed up something
Vortex doesn't work well for Valheim. I'd just delete the entire Valheim folder and re-install it from Steam. Then, go to thunderstore.io, download and run their r2modman manager. Explore around in it a bit to see how it works and then find and load your mods from inside r2modman. It just works and make it much easier to deal with the mods. 🙂

For the most part, it should only affect you. Might be some issues with how Valheim has multiplayer set, and who "owns" the zone you both are in. If it seems glitchy, try to space yourself from another player and try again.

The initial ripping process is different, but basically everything after that is unity anyways. So yes, some of it is very similar.

Guys is there any mod or anything that would let me see which mod makes my game stutter in every second or two? I have 40 mods installed so far and want to know which one causes such massive cpu/ram usage and lags
It can be any number of things. For example, items in storage in your base could do it. Have you checked the logs? You open up the Unity/Bepinex log by alt-tab, and usually it will show red text if something is amiss.
No red text, i have 6700k instances at my base
Despite having pretty decent rig that should be able to run this game even without minor stutter, i had to cap the fps to 60 even in vanilla game, because i was getting a bit annoying stutters and fps drops. After installing bunch of mods, the stuttering and lags got way worse

Number of moving objects nearby, like a large farm with animals and crops can pull it down as well.

Ashlands has somewhere between 5k-8k instances per zone, building any sort of base of significant size will likely lag the player
I'm no modder, but I think the instance count is caused by the trees in Ashlands being literally on fire rather than just a smoldering texture. Being able to turn off this fire would be huge for instance count Id guess

Will there be any inconvenience with the game if I use mods, but normally play on a friends server(local, not dedicated)?
Using either the thunderstore or r2 mod manager, you can create separate profiles to load different mods. Make one for yourself, and one for your friend's server.
The one for yourself can include client and server side mods, as you are the server in 1p. Others should also have the server side mods to join you.
The one for your friends server should be limited to client side mods, assuming your friend doesn't have any server side mods. If you're friend does have server side mods, then you would need those as well to function properly.
Read each mod carefully tho, there will be tags under each mod name that identifies if client and/or server side. And as a general rule, make sure they are up to date.

There's a few ways, but the simplest for you right now is probably just use the config editor in the mod manager.

Hey all, I've been considering doing another playthrough of valheim but am interested in a vastly different experience... I know there are all sorts of mods out there that give the game more of an RPG/MMO experience, curious if anyone might have a modlist they might recommend?
I know there's mods for things like monster drop/rarity weapons, weapon enchanting, skill trees, class mechanics, etc.
Not really looking for just one or two mod recommendations, but rather a list of mods that work well together for this type of overhauled experience.
I like the Relicheim modpak for that. And there are others too at thunderstore.io. Search there for modaks and see what comes up.

Yea definitely, I was looking at Journey to Valhalla, which was the most downloaded one but that one has been deprecated, Midgar is currently the most downloaded updated mod pack.
But it doesn't us Epic Loot like Relicheim, and neither use Valheim Legends (The class system mod)
Well, they're free to try. If you don't like one after a day or two, ditch it for the other. 😄
Oh, and you could probably add the Valheim Legends mod to them, if you wanted.
I've thought about it, but both mod packs are huge so not sure about compatibility and overall game balance as well. Figured I'd try to find a modlist that has already done this, which is what I'm liking about the Relicheim description, is it seems they've tweaked loot/drop tables to make you feel like less of a god with EpicLoot

Yeah, it introduces an 'experience' skill so that you're weak until you gain experience as you level up.

Because it ruins any potential feedback.
The Valheim Dev themselves state that you should not when testing the PTB. The PTB is meant to be testing for vanilla issues so they can release the content faster to the live branch. If you are using mods, you are therefore invalidating all of your tests and any bugs that you might experience. Plus the PTB is technically a beta test for a beta game and you’re using mods potentially in beta for the beta for the beta. Get it?
The PTB is not a means of getting access to the content early simply so you can play it. You were meant to be playing the content and figuring out what is wrong or any bugs and report them to the devs. By using mods, your invalidating anything you might find as a “bug”, and making the content release actually take longer. Less people testing vanilla and giving good feedback to the devs simply means they are either having their time wasted by invalid bug reports, or having to delay the content because they are having to wait for good feedback to push it out and fix bugs.
So in short, if you're playing modded, you're on your own and taking your own risk. Any bugs you find/have, that's on you.
And most mod authors will not publicly release mod updates for the PTB
The Valheim devs state that the ptb is also there to just enjoy the content, it is in the pinned messages in #valheim-public-test.
Straight from the pinned messages there:
"Should I opt-in the Public Test branch?
If you are prepared to encounter some bugs or crashes, made backups of your save files, and want to support Valheim's development - or just want to explore the new content - you're more than invited to opt-in!"
So you don't need to report issues if you don't want to.
It invalidates nothing if you play with mods or not if you don't give any feedback.
If you are using mods on the ptb you shouldn't be posting feedback unless you have checked it isn't mod related.

See, in principle I'm entirely in agreement with you. I just think having a hard and fast rule makes it easier to follow than leaving it up to players to decide if their feedback is mod related or not.
There is no “problem” per se. However asking for mods for the PTB is a waste of peoples time and efforts. They directly state it’s enough for them to handle. Visa versa for mod devs. It’s also enough for us to update mods and get them working rather than answering PTB mod related questions all the time. Easier to simply state don’t use mods on the PTB. Waste of time to state otherwise or help you fix issues. Most people aren’t like you are and will immediately post bugs etc. “why doesn’t this work” blah blah blah

Monsterlabz, minibosses which thanks to their loot give the possibility to enhance the iron sword.
I've killed Frigga, the first one. Got the trophy but on the floating island I have no idea of how to transform the iron sword in enhanced iron sword. I've seen somewhere that there should be an obliterator on the altar where you put items in and then it creates it. Ofc I've tried to build one myself but yeah, now the trophy is gone xD

Oh I agree, if people want to use mods it is on their head and should make it work themselves and not bother others with it, unless some mod author does want to put in the effort.
They also shouldn't come complaining about bugs or problems they have with the game without first figuring out if it isn't a mod causing the problems.
Still if people want to use mods on the ptb let them as long as they don't bother others with it.

I'm also coming from the mod dev standpoint where I deal with multiple people a day asking the "what is wrong" type of questions and posting PTB issues with mods.
Seen one of them people yesterday running 13 mods on the PTB asking why it wasn't working
If I could post screenshots in here, I'd show you at least 3 from the last 24 hours that I know off the top of my head in the modding discords.
One even asked how I knew they were on the PTB with mods.
I haven't seen that many but I'm also not in a lot of the valheim modding discords, have seen a bunch of people that know they on PTB and posting bugs they finding with mods on it
I mean it helps to some degree to know which mods are broken on the PTB from the users that know which mods they have installed and which broke...but the generic questions are a waste of time, sadly.

This update was extremely mild, majority of mods didn't even need updates.
I thought Ashlands would be another major mod apocalypse but nope.

Yeah, of course some mods broke but it was not a major mod apolacalypse like I thought and some mods just needed to be recompiled etc.

Simplest thing I can think of, you enter a dungeon, open the book in the right spot (some big hall so there is space) and a Mini boss appears

A lot will be on the players side what they come up with but I could imagine guides, treasure notes etc.
About treasures, instead of just giving away the existing ones (like in the meadows, that you find with the wishbone anyway) it would be cool if by installing the mod, the world will be upgraded by adding such treasures around (sorta like monster labs does for its minibosses, it wil create new caves etc around for you to find)

Odin barrel transforms x amount of berries in a barrel full of it (just visual), perhaps a nice idea could be similar? If you have 1 book, with the hammer you can morph it in 1 book item that can be placed

Each book/scroll will have an item variant that you use to write and read and then a piece variant you place like a building piece.

Hey so I'm trying to get rid of the glowing effect on the draugr fang, since its transluscent and kinda right where you're looking when aiming. I've found 2 mods and they are both 2 years old. It seems like its a simple texture thing, is there any other way to go about this?
Did you try the vanilla world modifiers? There's a couple different harder difficulties to choose from now
I think fashionheim has versions of the glowing weapons without the effects. I think you'll need to spawn them in, they might not have recipes. Or configure them with wackys database

Yes, there is. Planbuild. I use the current version regularly and it works fine for me. It has some great terrain tools, too. Add it to the server and your game client. And set it's default build mode to "Direct" in it's config file. Or you can use Ctrl+Enter to place the blueprints in Direct mode as well.

If 'playing on a friends world' means that your friend is hosting the server, then he needs to put it on the server and you need to be an admin there.

That error is generic. You'll have to find the out dated mod and remove it. It appears to have been caused by the recent patch of April 10th, which broke mods. The mods have mostly been fixed since then but one or another of your mods needs to be updated by you.

I recently had a similar issue, went through and tested each mod one by one to turn them back on. it was irritating, but some of them were in fact dated and one really nie one I fell in love with broke the console.

The ashlands patch isn't ready yet. It's only for testing not mods. There's probably a few that might work but it's just a lucky few. If you're playing on ashlands, you're supposed to be testing the vanilla game not using mods.

Sure, but you could always test vanilla PTB and help the content come out faster. So that mod authors (like me) who have already got their mod updated for it can push it to the public.

Nah, it's any Craft from container mod or ones that patch into the smelters, ovens etc. They changed the internal RPCs that count as "adding fuel" or "adding ore"
The simple name changes of those mean we are sending invalid requests to the network and thus, it fails to "send" your items into the respective stations.
It's like going to a workplace and asking for someone named "Fuel" and they go "I know an AddFuel, but not Fuel...sorry, can't help you."

I'm new to modding on valheim and don't really know what I'm doing in terms of troubleshooting; I'm using thunderstore because i have more experience on it, but I am willing to change. The problem is that one or more of your mods is old and broken. Go though them one at a time and any that haven't been updated for Hildir's request would be suspect first. Remove or disable them one at a time and test the game to see if the one you removed fixed it.

Yes, it's very easy to do that if you are using the thunderstore.io mod manager. If you happen to be using the Vortex modmanager, scrap that and start over.

You could search for "mist" over at thunderstore.io and see what's available there. I know there's a couple mods that remove the mist but I'm not sure about just making it 'a little less'. That might be harder to find.
Can I use mods while playing the Ashlands beta version? Given their updated to work of course. Asking because I tried using vortex and thunderstore but couldn't get my game to load with either of them.
You can use mods on the PTB (Ashlands) but you're encouraged not to as it's for testing the vanilla game, finding bugs, and getting them reported and fixed. And, just so you know, Vortex doesn't work well with Valheim at all. You best advice is to delete it and all it's mods and just start over with thunderstore.io modmanager. It's a bother, I know, but well worth the trouble.

Hello, is there a mod or addon capable of letting you know which item(s) a character hasn't made yet in the lists offered on the various crafting stations ? This would make it easier to keep track of progress.
Almanac by Rusty has that feature, but it also has achievement bonuses that you may or may not also want enabled (e.g. killing Eik 10x will unlock a bonus that when turned on adds immunity to lightning, carry weight, etc).

Falling down due to change in world generation, will still happen. Regarding Ashland update, the devs have been quite clear that anything around the boarder zone (Ashland vs rest of the game), or in Ashlands, will change in the next stable update (after PTB is done)
Regarding your first question: Yes. Best way to continue after release of 0.218.x with modded world, is to not play it until your mods are updated. Will all your mods be updated with in a week? Month? Never? Maybe start preparing a version of the world where you have removed mods that you're are not sure will get updated within reasonable time.

I think it depends on your individual circumstances. For heavily modded servers, I end up waiting a week or two before updating. For mostly vanilla servers, I go as soon as the one or two mods there are working ok. And depending on your particular mix of mods, some patches don't affect you as much as others do.

You don't need a mod to just change the color of the sign's text. Just put this in front of the text in the sign: <color=#FFFFFF> . The FFFFFF turns it bold white. You can google it for a color chart with other colors and their codes.

I was originally using ComfySings but I couldn't figure out if there was a way for me to change signs to different colors depending on what chest they were attached to.
Same way as if you didn't have the mod, this just makes it easier to have the default be something else like white. But if you are setting every sign as a different color it might not help much
I like ComfySigns because it makes the text glow and makes the words more noticeable.
Turn on party mode and read how to use it.
If I have to input the codes to make them glow different colors then that's a small price to pay.

You can at the very least use the console command for that. Might not work if you want non-admin players to be able to do so on a server though

Yes, if the world's Ashlands are unexplored, they will auto-update when the server updates to the Ashlands release.
But remember that many of the mods won't work on day one of the update. So, it's probably a good idea to plan on not updating the server for a week or so until it's mods are working with the update. 🙂

There are a few server side only mods that would work on a crossplay server. But only a very few. You can find most of them here:

ZDO stripping happens during world loading. It stops the loading of unnecessary things in the world file that will be replaced anyway as the game/server processes the data immediately after world loading. It makes the world loading operation more efficient. At least, that's my understanding of it, anyway. 🙂

@stiff phoenix i've personally used Shockbyte with great success, and I've heard GPortal is a good service too, but I'm not sure if those places are appropriate to you location wise
I tried Valhost and wasn't impressed. I favor PingPerfect. Though it's priced a little more, I can access the server files via mobile and edit configs live through their UI. I can ban IP addresses, view log and console in real time or download, change the server commandlines, and see CPU/Memory over time in graphs. Worth it.
I see, good options! I think im gonna try making my workstation dedicated. Its got tons of performance but also I can install/update mods via R2Modman.
The downside, you are your own support. When I have major issues, they are quick to respond. Just another thing to think about.
With r2modman, you're better off with Windows as the host OS than Linux. r2modman doesn't easily start up a Linux server, although it will certainly manage the mods for one. You'll just probably have to manually transfer them from the r2modman server profile to the server's BepInEx folders. Not a big deal but an extra step with Linux.
Its a windows 10 PC so that should be fine. Honestly though, I dont know when Ashlands will leave PTB, so I'm debating whether to do all this when it does, or perhaps just go vanilla for the first playthrough, especially since some friends want crossplay.
If I go the vanilla route and Ashlands comes out, its just a matter of updating the game, assuming nobody has explored those lands.
Once I get experience using the dedi server, the next playthrough can be modded.
If you go with the release version starting next week, you'll likely have a few weeks to get used to it and decide on any server mods you want to add. Then, a week or two after the Ashlands release, giving enough time for any mods you like to be updated, you can convert the server to the Ashlands release more gracefully.
Also, I personally like to install the dedicated server barefoot from the Steam client library rather than using SteamCMD or LinuxGSM. You'll learn a lot more quickly about the things you'll need to do to properly manage the server and it's options. That experience will benefit you greatly over the life of the server. 🙂

No, the server would still be up and running on the older version of the game. The version we're all playing on now which will be the older version after the update. You won't need to take the server down at all. Just keep playing as you were and don't update to the new Ashlands version until a couple weeks after it's released. By then you and your players will likely have gotten used to the set of mods that you and they have agreed are absolutely necessary but which aren't yet working on the Ashlands release. 🙂

If you want to spice up the combat, you could try jewelcrafting. It adds a socket system to the game that you can access from the beginning. There's also plenty of mods that fill in weapon gaps or add new armors. If you want a mod that lets you interact with mob drops/damage/health/star limit of enemies, than I'd recommend Creature level and loot control (I will say a ton of people love this mod, but I personally am not a huge fan of it). There's a few mods out there that add content to certain sections of the game. Some QoL mods include; Craft from containers, speedy paths, shortcuts, equip wheel, auto repair and plenty more you can find by just looking for them. I'd recommend getting your mods from R2modman, I used vortex at first but a lot of the mods on their aren't updated frequently and the selection is a fair bit smaller.
for new content therzies mods are pretty cool, Armory Warfare and Monstrum

Edit: Decided to dowload SpawnThat for myself, and after launching, a simple.cfg is created. Here, you can change the multiplier value for how many can spawn, group sizes, spawn frequency, etc for each mob in the game.

Spent my nights these past two weeks getting PlantEverything ready for Ashlands, averaging ~3 hours sleep a day. I'm happy to announce it's finally ready. Just need to do some finalizing once the update is officially out.

most of us use r2modman or thunderstore mod manager, so to disable all mods we just use "start vanilla" or create a new profile without any mods.
however, if you installed mods manually, tossing the mods right into the games folder, then you may just want to delete or rename the games folder in steamapps and verify the installation so it downloads a clean version.
you could also edit the doorstop config to prevent bep from running, but usually just doing a clean install is better.

we usually bug thunderstore admins for a stats report a week after the update, just to see how many mods were updated.

mistlands update we had "1398" mods updated within the week of the patch, I dont think that many will need it with this patch, but I expect a lot of mods to update.

Hello, modders! We want to save some structures from our world that collapsed underneath us and fell into the sea when we loaded the Ashlands update. They were up north on our map in the mistlands, so we thought they were safe. They were NOT. I was inside a huge resort building when I logged in and heard this horrible sound I couldn't identify until the floor crumbled out from under me and I fell a few stories into the sea.
We have a vanilla world on a hosted server at the moment. Our host does allow mods. We haven't used them before. I got some recommendations to use PlanBuild to blueprint the structures from our backups and move them to somewhere else in the new world files.
Anyone have a better idea or warnings about this plan?
Did anyone ran that mod that lets you build your own ship on raft?
I plan to use for my next game when it is updated but I would to use few more mods so Valheim really feels like adventure what do you have to reccomend?

FYI - Be VERY careful with Craft from containers - I lost a bunch of stuff figuring out what was wrong. The Fill All (left shift) appears to be consuming resources but not putting them in the destination. 77 sap up in smoke. sigh Serves me right using mods on release day. 🙂

Playing vanilla dedicated server. One of our players explored around and found like, less land than they wanted. Is there a way to regen the world outside of a certain radius? I know Jere's Upgrade World is a thing but if that is the only way, would I be able to mod the server, then remove the mod after the regen?

Switch to ZInput if this is a Valheim mod. Patch into FejdStartup.Start() as a postfix and create your object there. You're probably running into the resource loader that happens now at game start

Find the mod on thunderstore.io and see the info at the bottom of it's icon in the search results there.
Most of them have both client-side and server-side in "categories" though
That means that the mod could work for either. But for some mods, when you put them on the server, they demand that all players have them, too. Other mods don't. And, sometimes a mod will let you 'sync' it's configuration for all the players by setting an option in it's config file.

It means that your client and server are not on the same version.
Your server is not on Ashlands but your client is.
Dunno if I asked this already, but I am interested in using Upgrade World on a vanilla dedicated server. I read the guide, but I want to make sure I understand correctly: with only mods installed on the client/admin machine (mine, I assume DLLs in the plugins folder) and the mods (bepinex, serverdevcommands, upgrade world DLLs) installed on the dedicated server machine... I would be able to set a specific range around the center of the world, where I can regen the entire world outside of that ring? This is EA and it has been updated with Ashlands.

I saw a mod for that, I can't quite remember its name, but for what it's worth, the mod you want exists.
I seem to have a more recent version of R2modman installed than is available on their website by one digit. Planbuild was last edited in April so maybe I wait to see if Planbuild will get a new update due to Ashland release will fix things. 🙂

MissingMethodException literally means that there is code somewhere trying to invoke a method that hasn't been defined. a lot of times, when valheim devs release an update, they change some methods that used to be defined. some of the methods that used to be defined, are no longer defined in the new update. so the mods need to be updated to use the new methods that the valheim devs changed to. in this case, it's probably that planbuild and extendworld have not yet been switched to new methods in the ashlands update
cronjobs means it's a code you can run on a schedule, so you can say run this code every 2 hours, every day, etc.
Another Jere mod, allows setting up automatic commands on dedi servers.
