i'd be around the 250 mark between 175 and 400

#

currently you can go to a bonemass sized swamp and get literally 3 crypts there, when you could get 20+ in that space before

hoary bear
#

I know this problem, its because a circle doesnt have volume! ThinkingTroll

hoary bear
#

Was just now reading to this, if I started a world before May last year and load a swamp up a few patches later (in present day) it got the same pois clumping together, does this answer the question? ThinkingTroll

frail cave
#

possibly, i'll check myself next time i boot up the game

subtle parrot
#

This happened on a map i was playing on as well, had a base at the foot of a mountain and next thing I know i log in and half my base is fallen cause the slopes changed when the mountain disappeared lol although I expected it cause I saw the notice here about how some things might change. Back when they were getting the maps to be the same on xbox as what was on pc for xplay

halcyon crag
#

tbh even when it was at 400 it didn't seem overly saturated with crypts, but it definitely does feel like there's a distinct lack of them now

valheim on all high gfx gets my 3060ti all the way up to 80c @60fps/1080p

#

it might be 1.4gb small, but it packs a punch

#

had to set a more aggressive fancurve to accomodate its settings (80c is fine but i prefer low to mid 70s)

#

for comparison's sake I can play GTA V on the same settings at 62c instead of 80c on the same fancurve 😅

#

depth of field and particles being the main culprit, if i lower/disable those independently, the temp lowers, if I lower those at the same time, the temps lower twice over nearly

Hello there, guys. We wanted to play the game 4 players but got a problem with heating. 3 of us have no issues with heat on laptops but the other friend has overheating and 35 fps lock (in settings nothing locked and in any other programs). Did anyone had the same here?

You definitely want it to be prior

My suggestion for when you go to plains is silver helmet, fenris legs, and root chest

spare drift

root chest? armor is kinda low on root is it not

real nebula
#

Light armor typically comes with other resistances or perks compared to heavy armor

spare drift
#

i usually happen to not mix sets together i use a full set most of the time

still pendant
#

I use fenris armor full set for exploration and normal day to day messing around my base locally.
The root armor has resistance against pierce which far outweighs pure armor stats

real nebula
#

Root chest has pierce resistance, which is really useful

still pendant
#

for pierce

spare drift
#

i think ill do smth like , wolf cape, fenris hood, root chest then idk

#

what should i do the legs

#

probably gonna keep it wolf legs honestly for the armor

still pendant
#

really recommend using the silver cap vs. the hood. The caps don't cause movement speed loss wherase the legs do. So I recommend going for the fenris legs and silver cap along with the root chest. Jack be nimble and all that.

hi, me and my brother is playing and when he tries to build (on my server and on his offline server) everything he places gets missaligned. he tried using his xbox controller and then he could build normally. he also tried disconnecting it and restart the game but still couldnt "align" building objects. what could be the problem? to be clear the snapping shows correctly, but then when he places the walls it gets placed in a different location, sometimes making the stuff float.

cedar sage

fathom badge

Like doing placement is hitting both shift and click. Or perhaps some kind of other controller remapping software or something?

cedar sage

only rebind I heard him do was changing the block and secondary attack button

For troubleshooting it might be worth having him undo all binds and reset everything back to default and see if it still happens

I JUST heard of this game like as of now . I got it with game pass. Is it like a multiplayer server? I downloaded and played like Dayz not knowing it had real players

Nope, not necessarily a multiplayer game in that sense. More like it has co-op as an option. I like to compare it to terraria- the option is there to play with a few friends, but it’s not intended to be played with a large group.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice. Throughout the game I made new bases in the new area to experience them. When I got to the mountains I made my biggest base yet, basically a small caslte / fort. It took forever but came out amazing. I wanted this to be my final base and been using at such. Problem is I got 2 boats full of black metal ore I need to get to my base, I got them and travelled back to my mountain however the issue now is getting up. I can only carry 30 ore at a time and it takes 8-10 minutes depending on enemies to get up the mountain per stack. Is there any more efficient way to get up?

fathom badge
# errant hull Just wondering if anyone has any advice. Throughout the game I made new bases in...

Not really, unfortunately. That's one of the downsides of building in the Mountains. After you defeat Yagluth Fulings will spawn at night in most biomes, including the Mountains, so that can bring black metal to you directly. Otherwise, you can put a temporary portal connection between where the ore at the foot of the mountain is and your base, and only run the trips in one direction. You could also modify the world settings temporarily (or permanently) and allow metals to go through portals. But I try to not do that, it really breaks a lot of the game mechanics.

What's the best way to deal with Sea Serpents while solo in a karve? I barely got out by approaching land this time, which made it go away. Didn't manage to nuke it down with wood arrows this time. When we were two people and had flint arrows it was easier.

I'm trying to fight wolves in iron age. I already have a mace, but I also want a two handed solution. Between the Atgeir, Battleaxe and Sledge, which one would be the best (and most economical, I don't plan on wasting iron upgrading it) at taking down wolves?

I'd personally say Atgeir, mostly because of its AOE potential

It kinda sucks to be in a constant state of relying on others to create what you'd like to though. Who knows, maybe they'll become a really really good builder once they take the time to learn about it a little. The chances of someone willing to do that for them each time they want something built is also rather small. The whole "teach a man to fish" vs "giving a man a fish" thing comes to mind, but do you ofc :)

If I max base raids how often do they occur? I'm looking to farm a specific trophy and I'm told thats the best way to get it, also does difficulty have any bearing on the frequency?

marble roost
#

Difficulty does not affect chances of loot. I think it does increase chance of stared mobs but that only matters for non trophy loot I think and not for raids anyways

marble roost
#

So I believe raids have a chance to occur every 46 minutes if you're at your base. If you're not at your base the raid won't happen (unless it's the "hunted" wolf raid in mountain or plains). If you are at your base there's a 20% chance

Much more raids bumps the chance up to 67%

Hey guys 😉 we've been playing on a dedicated hardcore server with combat at very hard and we're loving it 🙂 so much that other of our friends joined, which meant that creatures got even deadlier (Dynamic Difficulty Scaling by number of players). Anyone know how to disable this completely ? Goal will be to balance game to be very hard but consistent so we can plan in advance "what can we tank with that gear / there's a troll there, we need to be 3 to even attempt it"

vapid warren
#

The damage is only increased by 3% per player nearby, up to a max of 15%. It shouldn't be that bad

civic iris
#

4% if i recall but the bigger issue is damage dealt to enemies
Damage dealt to enemies by anything is reduced non-linearly based on the nearby player count. The formula is damage / 1 + (playerNum - 1) * 0.3, which works out to 76% for 2 players, 62.5% for 3, 52.6% for 4, and 45.5% for 5. The number of players is counted when each attack lands.

#

at 5 we're getting hit 20% harder for a much longer time - taking in account that only 3 of us are actually "good" at it - the rest are not even close skill wise, most fights end up with RUN AWAY WITH YOUR LIIIIiiiiiives smash sound - ..... where's billy ? xD

What I did when I started playing the game is setting up a "wall" made of 1m wooden beams along two sides of the field. At each point where the beams connect, place a standing wooden beam, to give you something to look at.
After that, position your character at the opposite side of the field, press "c" to switch from running to walking and walk forwards.
Every time you have covered enough distance from the previous crop, the image of the crop will turn from red into green and you can plant it.
Once one row is done, press "c" again to start running, head back to the other side, activate the walking again and repeat.

tough hare

Start by building some work benches between both areas to make sure you can build the entire distance.

Build some fences around it to lock it off from the outside world.
After that, create a path between the current fenced in area to the next one; but keep it small enough for you and the boar to move through it.

After that, just push it through and build a fence or a door behind you once in a while to make sure it wouldn't return.

I usually setup a base in the meadows early on, and later when I get to the plains setup a base there. Meadows base doesn't need tooooo many defenses, but for my plains base I try to defend it well

glass plover
#

@jolly elk @marble roost That's helpful.
What about swamps or mistlands? Any defence for deathsquitos or drakes?

fathom badge
#

The thing to remember about all raids is that they will focus on you ahead of any of your base defenses or anything. They only destroy walls and such in an effort to get to you.

#

Deathsquitos are squishy, even a windmill or bonfire will kill them. Drakes, just make sure your livestock has roofs and you always carry your bow. There's not much automated that can deal with them until the raid itself is obsolete.

Drakes is Mountains, not Mistlands. But I wouldn't recommend making a base in Swamp or Mountain

It does, but the hitbox on copper is very wonky. It looks like it's floating but it might still technically be attached so you really gotta dig out far around it.

Once it's fully detached you also need to hit the copper itself a couple times for it to realize it's floating, and then destroy itself

That seems a little low, but you might be running into the dig limit? Or perhaps you didn't dig all the way around the deposit? For 6 players you might consider increasing the drop rate on the server to 1.5x or even 2x

I usually don't use too much copper because I go light on making bronze items. Like you can use the bronze axe for chopping and fighting so you don't have to make a seperate weapon, and can skip bronze armor and kill some trolls for armor

Bronze armor isnt recommended cause it has such low armor and makes you slower

I have a weird situation.

I have a dedi server I run off my PC. I was playing alone all yesterday as the others never poped around. I quit last night and it said "saved 8 minutes ago" and I did a save again. I then shut the server down.

So I explored ALOT and all that stuff is on my map, including all my pins. The base area and my gear however seem to have not saved?

fathom badge
#

That sounds like a server desync, like the server didn't save the changes or crashed on shutdown instead of writing out the changes. Characters are separate from worlds, and the map info is saved with your character. But in theory it should have only been those 8 minutes different... if it's more than that, then you might have an issue with where you server is saving, it might not have write permissions to the drive or something.

chrome jetty
#

It worked fine the time before.

#

It was just the last days run that didn't save.

fathom badge
#

Yeah... unfortunately, there's not much to go on other than those symptoms. Do you have the server logs from yesterday?

chrome jetty
#

I think it'll be called valheim_log.txt or something similar, but I can't remember if that's configured by default or not, I have the suspicion that it might not log to file by default and just to the console.

I have a connection_log that seems to show I was logged in and then out

Blunt is superior until they add more blunt resistant enemies in Ashlands with higher stagger limits.

gilded field
#

Blunt is only superior by a difference of one mobs resistance. Where as there is 4 that are weak to blunt. So I guess that gives the lead either way

marble roost
#

in mistlands there's not much difference between using slash/pierce/blunt

green crystal
#

Fine, don't learn to abuse stagger from maces and atgeirs. It's your experience. Personally I use neither because throwing spears is more engaging.

gilded field
#

Challenging for sure. Hitting the ranged shots feels so good

green crystal
#

I usually throw in melee because it uses less stamina than attacking and, under normal circumstances, I can pick my spear right up and throw again faster than normal attacking.

#

Plus spears are the loudest weapon in the game so great if you partner with someone who likes to sneak around with bows and daggers.

I'm still baffled that not one mob is weak to slash

Ideally you want 3-4 people. A center tank with a loud weapon they can hit the ground with (throw a spear at the ground), a flanker with status effects like stagger, frost, or lightning, and a ranged strength-belt mule stuffed with enough arrows for the clear and lots of space for the loot.

Depending on weakness, resistance, and immunity. I could see a need to consider a few other weapons to balance damage types. Spear and bow both being pierce

Oh definitely. Gets easier once you get magic involved. Fire/Blunt and Frost ranged options are nothing to scoff at, even if slightly annoying to use. Then again I never needed to really use foot tactics like this until Mistlands.

||Here on the plains you will find the dwellings of the Fuling, that ancient race who once built towers and cities to rival those of men until Odin punished them for their pride. He trampled the Fuling armies, their armor cracking like snail shells beneath his feet, and tore down their cities.
Only Yagluth, the great sorcerer, would not bend or break before his fury. So Odin tore his body in half and cast the remains into Valheim, where he bled into the earth and crumbled to dust, wept over by the last of his people.
Now the Fuling rule over the plains of Valheim, savage and wild with only hatred and fear in their hearts. But Yagluth is with them still, an unseen force that the Fuling shamans draw upon for their crooked magic, growing again in strength as his people spread across the world...||

The red line will be better for snapping architecturally and measurement-wise. And once you put a wall beside it (if you are) it will be hidden as well.

Can someone help me out, I'm really confused. Okay so block armor is basically the amount of damage your shield absorbs or reduces (like between 28 and 42 damage in this case). When you successfully block you get this block force which is like a knockback power of 30, but what exactly is this 30? 30 meters? thats silly, 30 pounds of force? what? And then there's parry block armor which is the damage your shield absorbs after a multiplier (2.5x in this case), so does that mean it's between 70 and 105 damage or do you still multiply that 70 to 105 further by 2.5?

#

This is level 3 bronze buckler

marble roost
#

Blocking and parrying can fail if the opponent does too much damage to you causing you to stagger. But higher block armor and also higher max health (eat some hp foods) makes you stagger less easily

uncut crown
#

So if you successfully parry the max damage you can block is only 105?

gilded field
#

Need a nominal amount of stamina. 20 for block 40? for parry

#

Successful parry leads to a staggered enemy. Staggered enemy takes 200% more damage

uncut crown
#

Thanks. I get it now. But playing hardcore is really stupid. Enemy damage gets doubled by 200% but our damage gets nerfed, I guess that's the hardcore part, but its stupid our blocking doesn't get any boost. You have to keep eating good food and parrying all the time, otherwise even with a successful parry against a no star troll you still take damage. I haven't encountered any starred trolls yet, but I can imagine my maxed lv 3 bronze buckler wouldn't be enough, I'd just die right away

fathom badge
#

Any difficulty level and rolling negates all damage. Shields are mostly useless in hardcore, you need to just do enough damage to fill the enemy stagger bar.

marble roost
#

Very Hard shields are still very useful. Just don't go parrying starred enemies of your current biome and make sure to upgrade the shield to max

If you do also decide to grind some block skill you can block just fine even against 1 star enemies, maybe even 2 star although that's dicey
