No, you're making an issue out of a non-issue.
Read the entire conversation from here #suggestion-discussion message down and you might understand.
but that message is wrong to begin with
sigh
Rowing with boats is another feature we don't add because it would not benefit singleplayer at all and it would make players belive that "developers don't care about me who wants to play alone"
not at all?
Mate, you jump in after a party is over, then have comments about it.
Read the entire convo for a change, so you get the right context.
Don't worry, just are debating the topic calmly
🤔
it's still many people wasting their time on a boat, collectively their time spent
having skeletons discussion is a solution to something that is not a problem to beginwith
only 1 person need to be on the boat tho technically. the rest can just teleport 🫣
That's what we do for trivial locations
I get your counter arguement point BTW dad, and it has some marit I guess 🤔
But idk if it is impactful enough of a reason to completely disregard also trying to ensure additions are accessible to solo players as well. Especially considering most people tend to play solo.
and for next playthroughs, it's usually 1 person that goes out
the cartographer we call him
I'm not denying the skeletons
Fancy, back when I played some on one of Jirocs adventure servers... could say I was the cartographer of the group
the problem with skeletons would be the push for necromancer is the best way
Big 🧠
Skeletons aside, I just mean in general when considering any addition.
and for what? 20-30 seconds faster travel time?
Idk why we’ve never considered that lol
?
It would just be a minor perk for anyone who decides to make a dead raiser, level it up, and pop a few skellies on their boat before they depart. Hardly locks you heavily into playing as a mage though.
the how much faster it goes would need testing fo course
I could agree it would be a fun thing. but not adding speed
As it is, to this day, I have actually almost entirely avoided mage gameplay and have barely touched the dead raiser hahaha
there is a limit to how fast a boat should go, before running into problems
but to use it as "balancing" is just benign
I would only have it add speed to the rowing speed myself as I said above... already the slowest boat speed (which does not rely on wind though).
Just lessens frustration when you don't have wind.
to say that co-op players would have a huge advantage is silly
Why should co-op players be able to row faster anyway?
Co op players have a huge advantage regardless of it being co op
co-op players would gain an advantage if they could row to help the boat with speed
yes
What about having it so you can add extra oars to the boat and if you have players with you co op they have a rowing animation ??
but having skeletons to do this would push singleplayers to "must have" dead raiser
And the oars can only be found through exploration or something?
Such a teeny tiny advantage... but when was this ever a competition between playing with friends and playing alone
but they're all spending their time too
Why shouldn’t it just be one speed for everyone regardless of group size
yeah by being able to add extra oars that work regardless of player count for example
Idk, I just think this is an overestimation... this could be added to the game and I still probably would bother with it since it would be faster to just hop on and go 😅
because of this
balance between diffrent ways to play and unfair balance 😦
I would say that makes sense when balancing magic weapons to melee weapons to bows...
But something so tiny as somewhat faster rowing speed is hardly some major imbalance that is going to force certain ways to play and make solo players super regret not having friends 🤭
just you wait. we might do some balancing at 1.0 😄
and if that's still the case
it goes back to the forsaken powers, 4 moders
it's not unfair
Or just 4 bodies at a boss to juggle agro.
A boat’s speed could be reduced if more players are on it and rowing brings it back up to singleplayer speed
That gave me a great laugh hahahahaha
boats weigh a trillion tons
I’m pretty sure Valheim boats don’t I can check though
Drakkar - 3000kg
Longship - 2000kg
Karve and Raft - 1000kg
And items don't affect it
and with full iron in the storage? maybe 5 trillion tons
Math is off, pretty sure it would be 6 trillion tons.
And I’m almost certain items don’t affect their weight like a cart
that's if the player holds 25 stacks of iron too
Hopefully this includes changes in movement speed penalty of 2h weapons (looking at battleaxes specifically). 🫶
I could accept other reasons for why rowing is a bad idea
but the reason being balancing is one I can't accept
I agree
genuinely concerned if there's no balancing at 1.0
you always sound very pessimistic 🤔
because battleaxes have been neglected for 4 years (and other weak weapons) its the last hope that 1.0 fixes this 😦
lets also talk about massive fireballs from fire staff creating zero noise around impact or the player 😮
this one i thought was surely a bug but here we are 3 years later
I agree with this. #suggestions message
Has not been that long since we got mistlands and firestaff... has it?
Late 2022 so around 2,5 years to be precise.
it's a silent explosion 😄
One might say... it's magic 🥁
But tbh it doesn't make sense to me either, it's something where staves have clear advantage over melee/ranged.
I haven't tested but does this mean that you can easily backstab a whole group of enemies?
I won't ever forget that now hahaha
It means you can silently huck few fireballs at enemies and clear them all without alerting nearby ones in impact of explosions.
Althought staves have no backstab bonus, but still.
To add to the co-op rowing boat discussion, typically the only time I've had the Moder power handy every time I sailed was when playing with a group that had every forsaken power equipped. Co-op already offers a slight ease of access to faster sailing already.
but also this:
the rest can all teleport
Unless you play with the "No portal" modifier on in co-op.
In that case all players do have to be on a boat.
uhh... yeah sure
Yeah, but where is the fun with that?
When I played with my group we made an agreement that we go together for long boat trips. During the trip we joked etc. and looked around if we found something during the trip.
we do the same only for new areas
Yeah, I meant together for long trips to new places. For metal haul we usually split and others went to base for farming/foraging/etc. if needed.
but those are not arguments for balance between co-op and solo
They are not. I just replied to your comment.
if anything, that is a bigger incentive to play in co-op than faster travel
Is this another pointless discussion about adding more advantages to MP over solo?
Something that has been denied hundreds of times at this point?
No, it was another pointless continuation of a pointless (and as I thought closed ) discussion about the co-op advantages over single player. Caused by someone who can't or won't understand what was discussed before. And thus kept bringing up moot points.
lovely irony
non-existent problems, and solutions to those
when arguments are built on eroded dirt, it's bound to be pointless
yet there it is, a suggestion to something that does matter is the forsaken powers
What's up with people hating on bear suggestions its wild.
Bears were quite present in Viking culture and a bear hood would be amazing, reminding of scouts
Bears are rejected, and valheim isn't a viking simulator game, so just because something is viking themed isn't reason enough to add it.
Bears would be awesome though
Then find a mod that adds them if you want them, they aren't happening for the vanilla game.
Bears have been a hot topic for many years- the better half of a decade, actually.
Hmm it’s pretty much a sour topic amongst regulars, because its such a common topic. And yeah, typically ‘regular animals’ are something the development team tries to stray away from. Bears especially, since they’re the most requested animal, it would seem.
It could be a fantasy looking bear though, just like Lox are kinda akin to bison with a reptile-ish face
I don't assume regular bears to be added in a place like the Deep North, but perhaps a monster bear.
Just like I could see a Nuckelavee be added there as a monster, even though frankly a Nuckelavee would have done a great Ashland mini-boss
Could be! Personally… I’m not really invested in the animal conversation- I think quality comes in many shapes and forms, and doesn’t stem from the originality of the creature. Unique == good. Similarly, hashing out the same concept that many other games have done in the past can also be boring 🤔
precisely. boring, normal bears are too cliché
I didn't say anything about making them normal though
you only mentioned bears there, how else were you referring to them as?
As a worldbuilder myself, you can easily make original creatures out of animals.
Hell, I don't think the Deep North would have regular bears stronger than stuff like Askvins or Lox, they should absolutely be some sort of mythical creature.
Perhaps something resembling a Troll-Bear hybrid, reminding of the Black Forest's Troll, akin to Giants but more bear-ish
Ultimately doesn't matter. If bears are rejected, safe to say that encompasses bears in general, normal ones or otherwise.
Your hatred of bears seems a little unhinged 😂
(Found the panda emoji! Thank goodness!)
Pandas being added as an April Fool would be wild 😂
Just stating the facts of the matter (that the developers rejected bears). I haven't even stated my own personal feelings on bears, nor do I feel the need to since it's a moot point.
Heh its not that deep
Feels like I'm being trolled at this point.
Crazy we got chickens though, way more boring than bears
because the chicken model was created long time ago
my collegues haven't rejected it. but I have and what I say is my opinion alone
Hes a bot programmed to parrot everything the devs say unfortunately
Calling people bots for trying to provide relevant information is wild. You can always simply stay out of the conversation if you have nothing meaningful or of value to add.
I mean, you've been quite hostile to me when I simply shared a thought, so you reap what you sow I guess. 🤷♀️
But I'll hop off this discussion, seems like its pointless anyway if talking about ideas is just met with such attitude.
I mean.. some people who has been a long while also reads our AMA's, our interviewes etc
that's uncalled for @finite vapor
Unfortunate
You can just block it, pls continue suggestions
🤙
Continually targeting specific individuals falls under harassment, does it not (such as calling me and rianu bots or referring to me as "it"?
yes
but use modmail for that
I told him to quit it and he did
this channel is the "worst" when it comes to disagreeing
Lets just stop the heat. We all share our love for this game no need to be mean with each other.
Speaking of wish, got a trio game going so I'll myself step out
some ideas isn't working out for valheim, but if it's popular and some who does mods like it.. they might pick it up
hence there are mods that adds bears already
i need bears for the sake of a bear rug
Which is a bummer, because sometimes we have some really fun discussions here 😁
A bear with horns or extra arms ptobably a possibility, something unusual to fit the valheim theme. Just not a copy paste of the real model
but, we have normal ass deer, boars, and wolves so i think normal bears are fine
And chickens
Deer, boar and wolves where all added when Dvoid was a solo developer and he just needed "something" in the game
He cooked!
he bought atleast 2 of them from Unity asset store and tweaked the models
Deer and boar seemed fine since they appear in the meadows, so it feels like a good transition from the real world to a fantasy realm (gives the character some familiarity when they first enter valheim).
you need to present "something" that resembles a game to get someone to invest in you 😄
I like your mistlands models and variety of creatures, probably the highlight of the game
Remains the best biome
🤙
most enemies from swamps and mountains are uniqly made
Grimmcores first model done was the stone golem
Grimmcore also made the chicken model
More than half of the time it's 100% because people take disagreement as a personal attack and start the whole thing in the first place.
I mean
sometimes it feels like we should have multiple suggestion and suggestion-discussion channels. because it's easily becomes echo chambers 🤔
Some people are really harsh. It’s not just about taking things personally, it’s also about the way they speak, often with irony or sarcasm. After all, not everyone has been here forever to know everything that has already been explicitly rejected or not.
And the worst part is that so few people actually vote in this channel. Do the test, suggest something on Reddit and see how many people respond, and depending on the question, how much their opinions differ from what is considered consensus here.
Not that a larger number of votes means much either, but at least it gives you a broader sample of opinions.
Its zero empathy people that ruin the channel for others by mocking and invalidating suggestions instead of kindly explaining why it wouldnt work.
Yet unfortunately they are still in here.
Time and time again being kind doesn't change anything, so sensible people will stop putting the effort in and just assume a piss poor attitude is in store regardless. Providing information people don't like or don't want to hear is often going to prompt a negative response no matter how it's delivered.
you must have a lot of friends
Happened in Ashlands again but this time I recorded it
https://youtu.be/lK1TP5arP74
Auto taking all gear wouldn't work even though my inventory was empty. Take All was my only option to get my stuff.
Happening again except with enemies around. I'm nearing the point of not wanting to play the game. I'm doing what I'm supposed to do and the game is punishing me anyway. It's incredibly unfun to not be able to get equipment back to be able to even attempt to fight back.
Fifth time in a row
I'll just edit this each consecutive time I guess
Looks like the buff only sets in after exiting the gravestone's inventory, but that's the only potential issue I can see.
Did you watch the video? I did. Twice.
Auto taking gear only works if the weight in the tombstone is less than or equal to your current weight capacity. The effect from corpse run only applies after taking all items and closing out of the inventory, meaning it isn't part of your current capacity when you interacted with the tombstone. Pretty sure that's how it has always worked, or at least how it's worked for a long time.
You didn't take everything and close the grave until after you equipped megingjord
What button do I press to take everything without opening it?
What?
Is it not E?
Open grave, take all, close grave, get buff
Read the comment I made, I just explained why the behavior is occurring in your case, and why it's working a different way in the video smiffe sent.
No you can become encumbered from graves with no issues
Take all will still work
Video didn't record for long enough then. The third and fourth deaths happened because I did that and got no buff and got immediately killed while wobbling around.
I should've run it for longer. I'll do that next time.
Okay well that sounds incorrect tbh, it's always applied after emptying the grave, it can even be abused by stockpiling graves
If I wasn't doing what I used to always do (without issue) I wouldn't be bringing this up lol
Right, I just have done this process over 5 times in this current version of Valheim and encountered nothing of the sort, so either you're missing something in your description, or you have a mod interfering with in-game systems.
Never played mods on Valheim
Right then, option A I suppose.
Again, the reason it's happening is because the weight in the tombstone (445) was greater than your current weight capacity (300) upon opening the tombstone (the extra 150 from corpse run only applies after taking all items and closing the inventory, so it isn't taken into consideration as part of your current capacity upon opening it). In that situation, the process of retrieving the items and exiting the tombstone is manual and not automatic. The only time it's automatic is if the weight in the tombstone is less than or equal to your current weight capacity.
This is a failsafe measure as well and isn't likely to be changed.
Yeah. I could definitely see people complain and be confused why they are suddenly encumbered about a minute after retrieving their stuff if the process was automatic in that situation.
Should you end up with more weight than corpse run can make up for, it would then be ideal to just use the grave to hold some stuff temporarily.
If it auto closes, that option goes away and you feel stuck until you begin throwing away things haha
Just one of those unfortunate situations where no matter what is done there are going to be some issues in one way or another. I feel the developers chose the best option overall, considering it just takes clicking a UI button and closing the inventory for the effect to apply, giving you plenty of time to run to safety to then equip the belt (and other equipment) to make up for when corpse run ends. I'm guessing they've just never died with a weight over 300 before now.
Well they continue to bring it up, so I wonder if anyone has explained it like this to them yet 🤔
I watched the video, it is just as you said (I didn't remember the weight part at first), but once they closed the inventory and the grave broke the corpse run buff was applied.
@forest plank Won't happen as it's stated here: #suggestion-discussion message
Hm.. yeah 🤔
it doesn't give the buff until it breaks
@late shale another issue with higher speed on boats, is that the area you uncover can't be to many at the same time, so there is an actual reason for boats not being super-fast 🥲
so does that pretty much discards an increase to map discovery radius on ships and a faster ship than longship? or being able to make ships faster in general
Map discovery is independent to zones being generated
The entire map texture is drawn when a world is generated
map discoveries (uncover fog) and actual chunk exploration are separate I think
since the loading of objects can be changed distance, while the map discovery is a static number AFAIK 🤔
Hey is this right channel to discuss extra players on a boat being able to row in order to increase boat speed when against the wind?
I like it because it would give my group of friends an advantage over the solo players on our server. ❤️
Hey! Great idea, I really do like the concept!
then what does that statement mean?
the area you uncover can't be to many at the same time
You meant chunk discovery?
@granite geyser this ^
i meant what smiffe is saying above that. what "can't be generated" too much of then?
the chunks or the map itself?
Generating new zones would have a much higher performance impact than discovering map so I'd assume the zones
well in that case it is what i mentioned above then: it pretty much discards faster ships, which in turn would affect how fast the player loads chunks
I think the issue is with chunks, not map
You can reveal map faster without issue, but going faster is impossible
Else you could enter unloaded chunks and no one know what will happen to you
Freezing or falling in the void depending if the player is client-side or server-side (considering the map is server-side)
Chunks generate first before we have the fog of war removed from the map revealing them. This is simply because the radius from the player chunks generate is further... however, should we move too quickly, then eventually the radius revealed catches up to how quickly chunks generate and the generation can't keep up. This leads to blank chunks becoming visible. And eventually the game either crashes from complete failure to load the chunks or freezes until it can catch up and load in all the chunks it is behind on generating.
This is the same for games like minecraft... and far easier to experience in that game, especially if you are used to trying to have a bunch of mods 🤭
I am really surprised it happens in valheim though since my own experiences have made me believe valheim was not that intensive of a game and chunk loading was very smooth. Even in creative with super fast flying speed in a straight line, the game does a good job keeping up. Could be my laptop is just decent enough ofc, since computer specs play the biggest role in this.
.
As for what actually generates in the chunks... the world is predetermined on save creation due to how generation is defined by a map seed. This is why the game knows what will be there before ever generating the chunk, and why the map viewer online works.
.
This is my understanding of what is going on under the hood.
Don't ask me how seed generation actually works though, I don't understand it well enough to know without googling it 😂
I just understand the premise of what it means.
Ofc, a quick Google search can tell you a lot.
Just to bring this full circle, determining the maximum travel speed is a balancing act. If it is too fast, than people with lower end machines won't be able to handle it (thus raising the minimum specs). So if they want to keep the minimum specs low, they need to both keep the maximum speed lower and optimize the game as best they can to demand less resources from the computer.
You would be surprised how many people still play on potato machines 🤭
For myself at least, my laptop I have could handle more obviously...
So I could enjoy faster boats without worry hahaha.
.
This was a far greater problem with games in the past as well. For example, they could not make the boat faster in Wind Waker because the console just could not load the content fast enough to ensure it loaded in smoothly.
This is also why the remastered version of Wind Waker also introduced a new faster sail you can acquire, now that modern console specs can handle it.
.
May not generate the world in chunks, but the premise is similar with loading in the assets as we get close while also unloading assets we move away from to keep the game performant.
I'm bored... I'll rant all day long
That was an interesting read! Didn’t know that about Wind Waker!
yes
not impossible, but raising the minimum level of hardware required to play. just for the sole reason of "I want my ships to go faster". is not the best one IMHO
pretty sure a AMD 9950X3D can somewhat outperform a intel 5 I-4500 when it comes to chunk discovery speed 🤔
for people who really wants to go faster with boat, mods exist that add a ship skill, like all the other from 0 to 100, and level up this skill increase the speed..
but not every computer can afford a faster world chunks reveal, so it's up to your machine
I nearly mentioned that exact same thing 🤭 but I assumed most would have guessed mods existed for such.
That same mod also makes the fog reveal radius increase with skill levels as well, I believe.
I think so too from what I remember
two problems solved in one mod x)
and I mean, sure they probably guessed such mods exist, but they seemed to insist for these features to be added in the actual game, what I suppose isn't that easy as long as (I guess) Iron gate try to keep their game as reachable as possible. If, just to please some people, they make ships go faster and so chunks load faster too, the game will need better hardware to work smoothly. So yeah, in this case, if boats speed is reeaaal big deal, the solution is mod 🤷♀️
As for rowing though, just to touch on it one last time. That is why I said it should only increase the (rowing) speed of the boat, which is also the slowest speed when you don't have your sails down. This thus in no way increases your actual top speed 🤭
Yes, and I agree with your point that the "advantage" granted to multiplayer users over solo players is so minute as to not exist. The only time it exists is when 3 or more players get in a boat and are sailing into the wind, at which point they can be slightly faster than a solo player. The advantage would be something like a solo player's journey to the swamps might take 28 minutes while a group could get there in 24.
This is pretty minute given that boat races almost never occur in most servers, and the vast majority of races to pillage nearby biomes first are not settled by a matter of minutes.
This change is being suggested as a way to relieve boredom for passengers on boats, however, and I feel it wouldn't accomplish this very well. Either your extra players sit down in the right position to unlock the speed boost, which is exactly as boring and un-interactive as before, or the Devs create a rowing minigame they have to succeed at, which is a large dedication of time and resources for a feature most people will never see, and those who do will make use of it for maybe 20 minutes total in their playtime.
Im not trying to call anyone out, just want to be clear, but I am curious if anyone wanted to share their perspective of why this would be bad #suggestions message
I don't even think it would do anything as big as relieve passengers boredom, to play devils advocate for both sides 🤭
At most, it would just be one of those nice little touches that people go "oh neat, I am actually helping by rowing an oar! That's so cool!"
And then after the third time or so the best you will get is "oh yeah, let me hop into one of the seats".
Little touches like that help make a game more magical, but it won't be long lived.
The same group that I play Valheim with, I've played many other games with. One sentiment that we share is that the "passenger on a boat" gameplay in Sea of Thieves is a lot more engaging because you can use the cannons, raise/adjust sails, etc etc. Obviously its a completely different game. But the idea of making boat travel more engaging as a group activity in The Viking Game definitely seems like something to continue working on
I dont have the answers to that, but glad ppl are talking about it
Just think the bubble is insanely overpowered already. I can see everyone going wild now too if you tossed that feature on top of it.
Have also seen so so many suggestions for wanting to prevent the wet condition from rain 🤔 I would probably pick one of the other options.
See, that is an insanely unfair comparison though... crewing a ship is like 70% or more of sea of thieves gameplay, while for valheim it's like 5% at best 😂
Its literally the main draw and gameplay loop for sea of thieves hahaha
I like the idea for a cloak (hat/cape combo?) That does it myself.
Or just a cape, great for swamp ventures.
i think i made it pretty clear that the comparison is not fair
Might have jumped the gun to respond, apologies
all good, no worries. It definitely is a huge difference, but idk, I think it would still be cool if boats were more engaging and wwere maybe like 10% of the gameplay
And it was moreso just a catalyst to consider the potential, moreso than "This is what valheim should be"
I could respect the bump in importance, especially considering it can still take a fair few hours of your time
Asks for a bit more ocean content is extremely common as well in general.
@boreal zodiac don't reply to other peoples suggestions in #suggestions
Perhaps if the boats had something for the non-sailors to do. Something like having a drum that they can play, or interactable ballista. Fishing is a thing but only if the boat isn't moving.
It doesn't have to have a benefical mechanic, just something for them to occupy themselves
Consider it like handing a child a screen to watch while driving on a trip.
it would just increase the number of complaints and change them from "add stuff to do" to "make these stuff functional".
Nothing would change and if it does, might even change for the worst
Or it could change for the better. It would be purely optional and not necessary for them to actually do but something to do if they wanted. We can't let the vocal complainers hinder game development.
on top of that who cares if there's functionality added to boats to make them more useful with multiple player? the single player people? make it a toggleable game rule to give the single players the same benefit. then everyone wins and the game is better for litterally everyone
I like that "what else can we do" thoughts
the single player people
No, the devs, you know, the people making the game
make it a toggleable game rule to give the single players the same benefit
how?
The menu: "toggle oars for single player?" "y/n"
The practical? IDK spawn placeholder "player"s that fill the role of actual players. hell you could even make them actual visible ghosts
you could even make the effect tied to some Item or consumable if you really felt the need to make things difficult
either way it makes sense, it's fun, and if you make it toggleable you can tell anyone who complains to kick rocks regardless of which side they're on
ok but why do they care? what is the philosophy? what is the intent?
I see, through my experiences, biases, and time spent, a lack of either awareness or care for how much time this game is asking for. Everything takes so much time to accomplish. Often in ways that don't make sense. The cycle of death is insanely rough, costing you food materials, boat materials, portal materials, equipment, TIME, and on top of that you're unendingly punished for failing by the removal of your skill levels. Add on to that obnoxious mechanics like being wet, resting, the lack of vertical aiming for melee weapons, the obnoxious aiming scheme for ranged weapons, the lack of auto stacking when claiming graves, being attacked through walls, the unexplained super burn that you get from enemies sometimes, and you have a game that is asking you to pour time into not fighting enemies, not solving puzzles, not exploring, but fighting the very mechanics of the game that are supposed to be there to allow you to integrate with the game.
One thing at a time, that’s a big read 😅
Just curious, why do you feel the game doesn’t care about your time spent? How much time should be spent in this game? 🤔
I’d personally would rather see the opposite; more time spent in the ocean if there is more to explore 🤔
it's not so much about time spent in the game but time that is wasted in the game. Time you're forced to spend to recover what is lost, either by player misstep or by unpleasant and unreasonable mechanics. Being forced to spend time to sit and wait to regain a rested bonus, and then wait more to get all your health back if you ate food, and then you have to get in a boat and wait some more to get where you're going, and then often times getting pushed off course by sea serpents, and then you have to plot and run a path through difficult terrain where you have to manage your stamina to jump over shin high obstacles and then you have to sit and wait some more to regain that stamina and then if you took any damage you have to wait LONGER to get your hp back and then if it turns night you have to wait some more to avoid it or run the risk of random enemies spawning in and one shotting you if you have no armor or if you have the previous generation of armor you get stunlocked and die again. all the while every time you die you're loosing levels that make it even harder and take even more time to get your stuff back all in the name of trying to accomplish whatever goal it was you set out with in the first place and then it's three hours later and you've wasted all your available time to try to explore and enjoy the game and you have to go take care of whatever responsibilities you have
We already have an option to significantly reduce the time you spend sailing - portal all items
I would like to point back to the suggestion of simply making the mechanic available to everyone. Easily scalable and gatekept through a myriad of options
Exploring is part of the game btw... it's not a waste of time to explore 😅
The spawn placeholder players is pretty vague also... but along the same lines of using the dead raiser skeletons 😂 (which is an existing AI minion spawning method).
.
The difficulty of the game from dieing to hard enemies and having to then retrieve your gear can also be tweaked with currently existing settings.... no?
I’ll be honest- a lot of this just seems like… typical gameplay stuff 🤔
As for skills... that's a topic I have talked about for more times than I would care to admit 😂
And sadly the setting surrounding them are not the best if I recall. 🤔
I'm not talking about exploring I'm talking about retreading a path multiple times just to have that effort rendered not only useless but costly though no fault of the player
A lot of it just felt like a disinterest in the basic gameplay on standard settings yeah.
But to me knowledge, most of this can be tweaked at any time with the existing settings.
Toggle all items through portals on then... the games most insane built in instant travel cheat
Another pair of wooden portals is not that expensive.
If you are that scared of being "punished" by dieing before you can get a portal down, than turn down the games difficulty too.
.
I am not dismissing how you feel, just to be clear. On standard settings the game can be plenty grindy and unforgiving to certain mistakes.
However, the settings currently available allow these facts to almost entirely be negated by personal choice. They could still use a little bit more work, but its in a pretty good spot.
I believe you're missing my overall point and the sub point that started my rant. Those being;
There are core systems in this game that are frustrating and I would like to see fixed
The excuse of "Muh Solo players" to not implement QOL changes is wack
I understand that you can change the difficulty settings, however this is not what I'm looking for.
I am looking for: inputs that work and interactions that make sense
I enjoy the challenge of the game. I think it is well balenced in combat, with the exception of the above complaints about stamina and the way the player character reacts to inputs
I agree there is some core systems that merit needing some better design, but they aren't broken... even if not ideal in yours or my opinion.
I completely don't understand the "muh solo players" point you are trying to make though. Elaborate.
If you are referring to not wanting to add additions that are accessible to multiplayer players, then I already agreed there can be ways to change them so that they are available to solo play also 🤭
The "inputs that work and interactions that make sense" part does not make the most sense to me either.
Right now they do seem to mostly work 🤔 even if combat is not like... super fluid top tier combat ofc
also boats steer from the front instead of the rear and this is dumb 🙃
Since when?????
Haven't boats always steered using their rudder in the back 🤔
You can be on a slight incline and inable to strike an enemy standing with is face level with your characters. I would call that "broke AF"
It’s not just a slight incline. It’s your own mistake of not considering your own positioning together with your attack hitbox and the enemy’s collision.
the "steer axle" if you will, is in the front of the boat, should be at the rudder
Yep, that's a common complaint. I get that one
I hate to ever say mods are the key here, but sadly I think it will be our only option haha
I’m no sailor, but I can’t help but think that is incorrect 🤔
this is called defending a shit system.
I'm memeing on this one, i do care but it's so low on the priority of complaints XD
I'm not here looking for mods. I'm here to levy a complaint and a suggestion. Yes you can fix all the things with mods but it would be cool if the devs could and would address the core problems with the game.
I don't think it's unreasonable to submit a complaint about a bad system in a product I have paid for.
I do think it's unreasonable to expect it to get fixed NOW just because I said something, however if I say nothing I am responsible for the lack of change
That's why I never mentioned mods as a solution, just so you know 🫤
Only that in the case of this one "problem" with valheim, that will likely be the only option you have, as based on what I have seen from discussions on it until now it's an aspect of valheim that is not going to see change.
It has after all, been complained about a lot actually, as I said 😂
That one specific aspect.
IIRC they stated at some point that they tried making the characters hinge at the waist and it looked dumb so they abandoned the issue
There has been a few other hotly debated systems as well, like skills. I myself have discussed skills as a system far too many times... but end of the day it's the devs call where they want to spend their time and efforts.
it is indeed.
and you can't fix every problem. you have only so many coins to spend, gotta pick according to whatever values you hold
whenever I get my education done I'm going to dev myself to death over dumb stuff I'm sure
planning to be a game dev in the future?
I wish you well with that, it is quite a lot of effort for sure. But the more great games out there, the better 😄
is the hope. I'm tired of just offering complaints
I appreciate it
#suggestions message I'm pretty sure a stamina regen would make Eikthyr's power pointless because it would do almost the same thing as a stamina discount, but it would apply to all activities instead of just running and jumping. I agree the Elder needs to cater to more people than just impatient lumberjacks, but it can't be that.
Stamina regen would be incredibly busted even in late game
Stamina regen is tricky to play with, I would rather see an increased reduction in stamina costs for movement, or additional ways stamina usage is reduced, like attacking. Forsaken Powers having a life saving niche attached to them often makes them favorable as well, so maybe an the ability to cut all debuffs applied to the player down by 50%. Just spitballing though.
One hasn't yet gotten into the taste of Tasty mead.
Look up any picture of old boats from the vikings… they weren’t giant kayaks
Wut?
Kayaks steer by adding forwards or backwards propulsion or resistance on either side with a paddle.
A boat with a rudder steers by modifying the drag at the location of the rudder, in the case of the valheim boats the rudder is at the rear of the ship, thus causing the majority of the left/right drift to happen at the rear of the ship
It's analogous to having the steering axle at the back of the car
Just look up pictures of viking boats
The ships in game are designed around their real life counterparts, not sure what you're on about.

Imagine if the final boat had a small cabin which players can enter. Enough room for a bed, a personal chest, a hanging brazier, and maybe a crafting table—maybe.
Unless the Dakkar is the final boat in which case it’s all good.
Okay, so instead of a bed and chest, how about a table and chairs for at least a rested buff?
I hope there will be something special in Deep North ocean like in Ashlands one 😄
The way things are looking now, we might not get a new boat at all.
We don't need one, we have catapults now
The heck does that have to do with boats?
We can use a catapult to reach the deep north
You’re absolutely right. From now on I don’t enter a single new biome unless it’s via catapult express.
don't think so too, the last one is incredible, but if not something that affects the boat maybe something that affects the character ? I mean, Ashlands ocean is hot as hell because it's Ashlands, and Deep North is supposed to be really cold no ? so idk something like a blizzard ?
something particular that make the DN as hard to acces as Ashlands
or even more since it'll be the last biome
have you heard of the game called RAFT?
I have and played it actually, Still prefer Valheim though.
Then whenever you want to play a game where your base is your ship raft is right there
just wondering since you basicly want valheim to work like RAFT
@hidden iron
Nah, mine was a suggestion and not a demand. I was thinking of the benefits both mechanical and creative of such a thing but if it’s not something desired then it’s all good.
game wouldn't work anymore like we developers want it to work
All good then.
The only reason it's done that way for raft is because that's what the game revolves around. That mechanic does not translate well to games that are not centered around sea travel.
Maybe I should’ve worded it to be more static, as in the small cabin and accompanying furniture would be part of the ship itself— similar to the current benches we have now. Not a separate zone. And I can see where having it customizable would be an issue so that wasn’t a well thought out idea on my end. But, again, if such an idea would go against the vision of the developers, then into the trash bin my thought goes.
It's about having a mobile base being the issue.
Which I understand now.
Don't worry many people have suggested the same thing, it's just not in the cards.
It seems that the intended game loop with boats making it impossible to get rested buff, and the only danger being serpents that spawn mainly at night, is to force the player with a decision: when it's getting dark and/or you're tired, will you land and get a temporary camp, or risk going on?
Comfort on boat would defeat that.
Now, this is only true in early game, but I don't see how making boats more convenient would help keeping them relevant in late game.
Boats have the same primary relevance throughout the game; to get you to new islands/locations that you can't normally get to by foot. That's really the only thing needed to keep them relevant and that's already in place/well established.
But traveling across land has things you can do, and dangers to navigate, besides serpent and leviathans (basically like an ocean or deposit) there isn't much to do, especially as a group, one person sales, and everyone else just waits, sometimes up for 30+ minutes, it would be nice to have SOMETHING to do on the water (besides level up sneak skill ;D)
You can't even fish from the boat while traveling, as the line will break as the boat outpaces it
I don’t think Stranded is staying he’s opposed to having ocean content. He just doesn’t think boats need to serve a further purpose (such as a mobile base for crafting/resting) beyond what they currently do.
Unless I’m wrong @stiff stag , I don’t want to speak for someone else 😅
Mostly just commenting on what wedhro said on the relevance of boats. They are already relevant even late into the game (there is nothing that gets added that makes boats obsolete, so no need trying to fix an issue that isn't there). Often times what I'm opposed to is the execution of an idea, or the reasons for the idea, and not necessarily the idea itself. I do agree it would be nice for others to have something to do while on the boat ride, but it doesn't mean I agree with whatever that something is suggested to be.
Maybe "relevant" wasn't the right word. I meant boats are no longer a challenge in late game outside specifically designed situations, and only the first time you do it, but their other intended purposes - travel and transportation - in late game is like watching paint dry.
I'm not opposed to harmless activities for MP players that have really nothing to do, but that wouldn't really fix the real issue above because late game sailing would still miss a challenge/reward mechanics outside approaching new biomes.
Don't take away my sailing ASMR 😛 Also you can still capsize etc its not super safe even if you're a very experienced player. I like it how it is, and more ocean content would also mean more sailing interruptions that we already have from invisible underwater rocks and tight spots etc. I'm happy with where sailing is, would not say no to another boat for the DN though.
Don't get me wrong, I love sailing just for the sake of it, but that doesn't mean people who don't find it satisfying should be content with the lack of of challenges and rewards in late game. Once you learn how biomes work, ocean travel just means pointing in a direction and tacking if the wind doesn't agree; little challenge, little reward. Literally never capsized once, and it bugs me immensely because it made storms pointless since all you get is wet status, more puny serpents and some random changes of direction.
This is my personal opinion, but you get the weather and the atmosphere it brings during different times of day, you can glance on new shores, you can find new passages or islands, you can have fish jump on your boat or fish from it normally, this is more than enough for me, I don't want to have pirate ships just because I'm near plains or some more dangerous serpents added in oceans near pre-ashlands, or even some greydwarf boats of the blackforest coast ocean, its just not for me and would only add annoyance and not valid gameplay furthering enjoyment.
Or something else to crash into if I'm not careful, we already have leviathans.
Maybe the sailing can have random raid events too from time to time, an ocean-based raid. And maybe something like sunken crypts or dungeons to enter in and explore.
If it came down to a vote it would be a no from me, wouldn't add anything for me would just take away from the sailing, an ocean dungeon is something to crash into lol and gives less open ocean to sail around on
we already have ocean raids, wolves
Or maybe we could have skeletons on rafts randomly spawning from time to time
like the occassional somali pirates lmao
or we could have the abyssal harpoon be able to fish out random loot waffling in the ocean like spare wood etc.
like the raft game thingy
Or storms can be filled with opportunity for something
Storms are amazing, but they're nothing more than visuals
I get it, it would inconvenience you. I'm thinking about people who stop playing and recommending the game because, objectively, sailing looks much more interesting than it really is. This is not a game/setting where pirate ships or galleons make sense, but sailing (and fishing) need to be more than temporary gimmicks unless nobody cares about the game losing popularity: without fun sailing, Valheim is just a forgiving but super grindy Elden Ring with not very functional building.
Dude, don't. It's always the same suggestions that get rejected over and over again, you have no chance unless you come up with something more original.
i find building super fun tho ❤️ im not sure what counts as objectively functional tho
it would be cute tho to find 1-3 skeletons on a raft in the middle of the ocean and u'd demolish them on ur ashlands warship XD
I don't mean to derail this thing so let's be brief: Valheim is the game where you can build a small castle after real life days of grinding, and then run away from it in case of an attack because mobs would fuck it up like it was made of styrofoam.
its also the game where i use my hoe to raise indestructible stone walls to protect my bb castle ❤️
Technically unintentional
But the best defense is that, which is boring imo
ofc i also beautify the stone walls with my cultivator with grass
Moats and fake mountains
but yeah it's difficult as a dev to please everyone in the player base since everybody has different preferences
it's cool tho that we're passionate about this game ❤️
Yeah we just present our best opinions
In the end,
Whatever happens, happens
And if valheim doesn't produce new functional building, it's fine because I've shifted my creativity in building in another game
Praise games
yep in our mostly capitalistic world we have "options" ❤️
Amen
@ivory basalt
Mod for seasons exists.
That would just be annoying if you want a specific crop but it's the wrong season
I know but this will add good stuff to game
Such as...
and make it a world modifier is not an option, they could use that time for literally anything else
it has already been denied, i don't understand why keep discussing about something that will not be a thing
Storms could spawn 1-star serpents post-Moder maybe?
Consider me wrong.... as of this new "word from the devs" 👀
Honestly going to be one of the big W's for IronGate.
That new Hervor video too ❤️ easily best one yet!
Looks like dreams do come true! 👀
@arctic wharf haha so funny actually! Just having a conversation about sloped combat the other day, and here we are! 🙂 cool stuff! Excited!
Now I just hope to see a bit of love tossed skills way, and then my biggest gripe will be no more
Looks like Irongate is going full throttle!
This about the dev blog?
yes, that they renamed
There will be one more update before deep north that is focuses on improving combat.
And they mentioned fixing slope fighting.
That is, aside from another Hervor video and some sick sneak peak pictures.
even if not perfect, it's bound to be much better I am sure 🤭
There’s also ||New armor and new weapon|| (update spoiler) it would seem! Definitely recommend checking it out if you’re curious- when you make a stop at a QuikTrip for your hot dog and gummy worms
I mentioned the sneak peak pictures 🤭
Ah, I did the classic ‘didn’t read the full message’ maneuver, sorry! 😅
I had made some fan art a long while ago with a ||shirtless armor|| design in an attempt to make a set that could have a ||chest|| tattoo 🤭
Was awesome to see this, ofc without trying to spoil anything.
More likely before DN spoiler IMO.
Ahhh right, fair point! Sorry, still kinda catching up on all the announcements and such! Been out of the loop for too long lol
I get ya there, been off playing some other games and stuff in the meantime. Am sure you noticed my YETI tag
No need to be sorry.
Or is there...
feels the guilt from plotting your demise for so long hehe
#suggestions message No one remembering Fang Spear.

the tip is not silver
#suggestions is for exactly that though..
It regards a wepon, and it might be a spoiler, also it would be nice to be able to tweak it to the needs of a dev
Right, all that can happen in #suggestions
Spoilers are almost inherently part of that channel, it's not going to surprise anyone that takes part.
Fair, but my other point of wanting to work with a dev still stands
Just ping them here and link to the suggestion.
Opening the gates to dming devs about every little tweak is not ideal.
That’s why I’m asking for permission
So you're basically saying: "Hey, I got an idea, but fuck the community, because I will discuss it with the devs only. And because of that I'm asking the CM for his permission to DM him in a open discussion forum where every member of the community can see that I'm going to ignore them."
Right.
My suggestion: Post it in the suggestion channel, add that the devs can contact you with a DM if they want to discuss the idea in person and just wait until they do.
My personal take on that: If all members would be doing that, Valheim would never be finished.
Sorry, that undertone went over my head
I guess I've got to aim better next time.
Fair
I’m sorry
Also, it’s paired with a drawing, and I can’t put images in the suggestions channel
Previously people have put a link to a #fanart or #screenshots message in their suggestion
Okay, I’ll put in the suggestion
The brain freeze
I gotta go now :3
how could it be a spoiler?
To be frank, there most likely will be a sword
I’d honestly prefer a more ‘Valheim-y” name if that makes sense 🤔
As in, they'll probably go through different concepts and decide on just one or two
So it's a tough ask
Idk, i think that a pun named weapon would be nice, at least one
Consider this
Flametal sword existed in concept before mistlands even came out
Anyway, bye bye
How about dual popsicles instead
M3 you eat it and get movement... debuff that slows you
nope. if you sent it to me in a DM it's 100% likly to be ignored
Okay
Tbh the name doesn't fit into Valheim theme. And we already have a frost sword (in Mistlands).
The krom or the mistwalker??? Neither are two handed frost themed swords…
Mistwalker.
That’s one handed
Huh, you meant 2h sword apparently in your suggestion.
Tho, yes it does do frost damage
Big-sword / two handed
I’ll change the wording
Sorgy if i caused confusion
I want a three handed sword
New staff that gives you an extra hand for 1 minute
That’s just an atgeir
If your third arm is freakishly long
Sword with three hands?
I’m gonna draw that right now
It's like the slap hand from terraria but with 3 times the hands, with incredible knockback.
Anyway, what do you think of my art concept of the (name pending)
Looks cool
Thx
Perfect for greylings!
Pls, someone
Suggestions that borderline on- 'implement something I created,' are typically hard to get by the community, much less the developers. You'd actually see more success with a simpler and succinct suggestion. For example: "2-Handed Frost Sword made with Deep North materials."
That's my opinion anyways, you're pitching a little too much, and if it's viewed as something the deep north update could use, it's blurred by too many details or specifics.
For example,
💡Greataxe that deals lightning damage in the Deep North
Vs
💡Stormbringer, the legendary axe that’s made with deep north materials and a iolite from the Ashlands.
Sometimes simple is better- it’s often better to leave creative jurisdiction to the developers 🙂
And make sure it isn't under-detailed as well. Don't want it to be to the point where there's practically no idea there at all (for example an overly generic suggestion like "add more animals").
or like what I did not in suggestions channel but in other channels extensively 💡 🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭
It's battleaxe!

Great battleaxe
I’m ashamed of myself, I know better as a member of the battleaxe community 😅
I only did my first proper battleaxe playthrough like a few months ago, was glorius
I also want to add detail tho
I still imagine is that DN is highly likely to have a two handed sword
I imagine it already exists in concept
In those cases I would type out the simple bit of the suggestion, then at the bottom possibly in brackets, go into detail about your vision.
I just realized a reason why I never build in swamps and mountains is because there are no renewable materials that keep spawning every once in a while (thistle is in swamps but it's in black forests too). Never got to the ashlands but I believe those are the two only biome that break this "rule".
Wouldn't it be better if they had something? Preferably a plant, but what matters is the source being stationary (requires exploration and rewards building in the vicinity). I know people could still portal instead of building, but I suppose more people would like to have that option.
You can fish iron in Swamps, which is a nice incentive to fish regularly.
That wouldn't encourage people to build farms and live there. Also, if it's not an unique material there's little reason to stay there.
Not saying you're wrong, but me personally I ended up cycling fishing into what I did a bit more because waiting to really make a base at a swamp I liked 👍
Ok, but fishing is a pretty different deal than farming. It's not based on specific locations, it doesn't reward building infrastructures, it doesn't reward waiting...
I don't disagree tbh I just had one example of why it was kinda farmable 😅
I always end up just bringing everything back to my meadows world every time after any new run.
that's beter fit in the valheim help
Last time we had a competition to kill all the bosses without getting killed which seemed impossible and with Ashlands as it is, it probably is now.
I’d like to see the next competition to see who can jump off the end of the world the fastest.
Turnip seeds and the stuff the mobs drop? Who doesn’t like sausage or blood pudding. )
Wouldn't that be the surtling fires? More a spawner than a plant, but people generally convert them into an automatic coal and core farm.
@crisp ermine
?
press the link...
Yeah I saw. So?
I am a huge fan of battleaxes and theres a lot of people requesting like me
Is it possible to Buff them A LOT they are litteraly in a situation to using them are against your ods
I hope They buffed to a state like Atgeirs
In my experience they at least needs to down the Moving Speed Penalty %20 to %10 and maybe little bit more damage and it would be so cool to Crystal Battleaxe had Frost damage
i am litteraly dying to play with battleaxes
and i hope We have a Final level of Battleaxes made by Flametal or another material with ability to upgrade with elemental gems
I hope i did not disrespect thanks for developing a great game ;D
Yesterday in dev blog it was announced there will be combat focused update before DN with at least slope fighting fix (and teaser for ||new armor set and fist weapon||), but can contain something else too. I also personally hope for small buffing for battleaxes and possibly a new one in later biomes (Mistlands possibly?), but that will remain to be seen.
#justiceforbattleaxes
#suggestions message Asksvin cape basically?
what happened ?
a suggestion on it ?
All good, don't worry.
It was a suggestion for cape that increases speed, which already exists.
Btw i saw a mod that adds a new cape called Raven Cape same with Feather cape just look difference i think a raven cape would fit the game very well can be a bro for Hugin and Munnin 😄
Hey, don't worry. If you haven't been in Ashlands you couldn't have known (unless if you had looked it up).
I Think i should have wrote down this to here
Hi guys i had a idea to making Some Armor Sets more interesting
what if when you equip "whole" Troll Leather armor sets it gives a little frost resistance just for protecting against freeze debuff and Troll armor have color variation
And a interesting one is what if when we are wet while using whole Root armor set we get Extra Armor points until Wet Debuff dissapear
Troll armor is too early for permanent frost resistance
I think that could potentially be problematic, as it could make players think that mountain is after black forest 🤔
too early for mountains too but 😄
didnt think that oopsss
they could learn it hard way too like met 😄
Enough people do that already
like 10 or 20 deaths could be convincing them 😄
yeah frost resistance on full set idea is little bit astronomical
what about color variation and Root set debuff advantage ?
Polar bears! When?!?!?!?
the fact that you're asking "so?" indicates that you did not.
read the linked msg again
Am I the only one who dislikes the way you get eitr?
yes, you literally are the only one in the whole community
What do you dislike about it and what do you think should be improved?
Specifically what do you mean by Eitr? Like literally? Through food? 🤔
More specifically the way to obtain first obtain it. I enjoy how you need to eat food made from mistlands plants, etc to get more - just think that having armour literally made from eitr should give at least some.
why?
By that point in progression you shouldn't be having to fight anything without food, so why does it matter that you can't fight without food?
can't wait for those same people to complain about their games becoming laggy due to the lack of those restrictions (it's completely the devs' fault because... they implemented the way to do it, yes, this makes sense)
just asking; is there a point to posting suggestions- were something from there 100% influenced the devs?- i know they like to do their own thing
welp- that's good to hear
Thanks for a fast reply.
Completely turning off stability calculations would probably reduce performance issues around large builds considerably.
yes
not really
#suggestions message The main problem with the suggestion is that you've tossed a bunch of extra stuff in that makes it harder to agree with it overall. The original post had some issues for instance (such as the originally proposed use for ink being redundant with the existence of tar). If those extra additions are executed poorly or aren't very well thought out, it reflects poorly on the concept as a whole.
And although it's nice seeing literally anything other than a serpent raid being suggested for the ocean, raid enemies are ones you can encounter normally as well, so it would feel out of place compared to others (doesn't seem like you've proposed for this new enemy to exist outside of the raid). And if the goal is to add new ocean content, so much of that new content shouldn't be concentrated around a single random new enemy exclusive to raids, it should be spread out more. Also saying it isn't meant to be a kraken but having the overall description clearly still be of a kraken/something very similar to one is just a tad odd and isn't convincing.
On a side note, fairly certain it's frowned upon to delete + repost suggestions (since it messes with/manipulates the votes and that can be misconstrued as the reason for doing so). Any changes can be done by editing the existing post if your intent is to simply update it with new or revised information (and people can always change their votes if those updates resolved issues/concerns they had).
Really? I thought stability calculations were one of the more costly things done around large builds (cpu performance-wise)
no
snap points are also a factor when
and just pure volume of objects
#suggestions message
Could you please elaborate on what we would gain from this?
#suggestions message This could be easily handled by allowing the item stands to be rotated on both the X and Y axis. I.e. by holding down shift while rotating you'd shift axis. So you could set a wall mount to carry the item from left to right or diagonally instead of being locked to up-down.
One main use case is when recovering your grave. If you happened to pick up items along the way it can mess with how you had your stuff organized when you retrieve everything.
the biggest is for spear uses. Because if you have full inventory, so items are on the ground around you from killing mobs, and press "1" to throw your spear from slot 1, while killing Graydrawf Shamans - you throw the spear, now have a single free slot, unknowingly automatically now pickup some bukeberries, and you press 1 again (thinking you will be picking up the spear you just used) - and instead start puking losing HP in the middle of a fight.
Source: me
A modification of that suggestion is just allow thrown spears to 'ghost' the item slot for a period of time, since they are a uniquely thrown and retrieved items - that would be relatively appropriate...
I prefer the ghost slot option, 100 approval if you post this suggestion
Added an EDIT #suggestions message
Its all speculative though, I could write down ideas for hours, but this one is more of a baseline idea.
I don't expect the devs to do anything exactly like this, but its just a cool idea they could build from.
If a tentacle base monster isn't wanted, it can always be something else like creepy hands coming out of the sea or whatever.
I just feel the Oceans would benefit from it and an Ink mechanic would do well to craft custom sails for ships, giving more ability to have personalization for ships just like the shields
And potential potion to make sea serpents more common could come handy!
After 430 hours of playing this game, its really one I love to see thrive, hence why taking the time to share this idea.
And thank yall for voting on it 😄
yeah your suggestion sum-up a lot of others in a very elegant way IMO
Thanky! I appreciate it
like, we had
- kraken/pirate/serpent raids
- kraken in DN ocean
- ship patterns like shields
- potions/effect to trigger serpent spawn
- many discussion about "no kraken nor ocean boss it doesn't stand a chance to be good gameplay"
All very common here
I absolutely love survival games and Valheim is by far my favorite. Like, I've played this game over and over again, built a massive castle, massive mansion, played with friends, solo, etc
Its so well done, pretty, and for once its a survival game that feels like there's a goal rather than just roaming aimlessly.
I really love the combat too, its satisfying and the buildings are gorgeous. (Plus as someone whose a maniac of building pretty bases, the comfort aspect makes building even more satisfying since there's a goal to make it well)
I can agree a full on octopus blob monster would feel weird.
But when I fought the elder yesterday in my hard solo I was like; "Hey, these could make epic sea tentacles if they were bigger"
Hell, the devs could make it more akin to a sort of algae monster if the kraken itself is an issue
Like, algae tentacles that surge from the depths
Additionally I would like if the tentacles could ONLY target player and tries to get it off the boat WITHOUT damaging the ship (or damaging it but not too much so that it doesn't break before the end of the fight), so the player always stand a chance to reach a coast and repare the ship and doesn't loose all his stuff+ship materials in the middle of nowhere
That sounds pretty cool and absolutely terrifying to see a tendril just grab and yank you out of your ship
You'd need to dodge and melee combat will be possible
because an event aviable only for ranged-based players isn't fun
Definitively a raid to fear and I love the idea of it being a Deep North's ocean monster.
Gives you a dreadful feeling to go up there
Maybe the harpoon could come it handy to kinda drag the tendril onto the ship and "trap" it there so you can beat it
except it have to be a difficult raid OR a very common monster in DN seas
Then the raid would be triggered only if the player carry a harpoon ?
I'd make the DN's tentacles a little more solid than the ones outside of its waters, or maybe just more numerous
I mean, at this point just carry a harpoon or flee, you always have the option to flee that raid by avoiding the tentacles
As the tentacle tries to reach you, the harpoon won't be necessary. It is better this way I think. Better that every class of player can fight regardless of their weapon range
Unrelated topic; I saw you speak French in your bio, so do I 😂
The harpoons would likely just make it a tab easier to handle a tentacle
Giving it a second use other than sea serpents until
yeah
Not hating on the sea serpents, they're majestic creatures, but they're lonely in the sea.
Tentacles I feel would add something else to fear from there.
Bonemaw is perfect in the Ashlands to make you fear those boiling waters
I just don't wan't this raid to require either a ranged weapon of the harpoon. It should be possible for everyone to fight
Well the tentacles would be melee-able as they try to melee you.
If you block it, I'd make it so it staggers by wiggling close to you so you can smack it
Not block, but parry
Let's edit and insert all that 🤣
I don't want to steal your idea so don't forget to suggest your "ghost slot after throwing spears" please 🙂
you can post it - its not for me, its for everyone - doesnt matter who asks
okay thanks, I'll do it right now then
I added it
I added this;
EDIT 2: Combat wise; I'd make the tentacles stagger when parried, so it gives a chance to the players to melee them
I'd make them try to yank the players out of the ship rather than simply attack the ship. I'd say if a tentacle staggers you; its next hit will toss you into the sea.
Players can use the harpoon to drag a tentacle onto their ship, trapping it whilst their stamina drains. The players may use this tactic to beat one melee faster.
I don't want to be annoying but can you precise lower damages on ship ? It has been stated a lot that a ship breaking in the middle of an ocean is the worst experience and many could downvote your suggestion because of that
Hope you don't mind me jumping in, but what if there was a Voulture raid at sea?
Valid, valid, I added this; The tentacles should be doing lesser damages to ships so they have a lower risk to break them easily.
As well, they could be glowing, the more stars; the brighter!
I could see a vulture raid, but at sea feels heh
Could be interesting though, a "You are being hunted"
I'd say it can trigger on land or sea, just a flock of vultures that go "Mine mine mine" on you
Please never do a deathsquito raid 😭
You could even make the raid event text as “who left the flyscreen door open”?
Duuuuude the raid names make me chuckle a lot.
"They were bros" I think I got in the Ashlands with the Tower's bosses showing up
Then they break the bro code when it ends
Got me laughing whilst slashing gobos
Yeah. That and the ship potentially getting destroyed are the 2 major road blocks to sea based combat in general. Addressing those gives the idea at least a fighting chance to succeed.
This is when boats leave behind a few floating planks you can hop on and paddle back to shore. Planks themselves can't be attacked/damaged, only the player ontop of them... but they will despawn after being out of render distance.
Gives the players a fighting chance at least.
Think of it like a mini thin raft with no sail, just the ability to hop onto them and dismounting popping you ontop so you can shoot arrows if you need to dispatch an enemy first.
Just a random idea off of the top of my head
Would fit with the little floating box that spawns if there was anything in the inventory 🤔
The plank of shame 😂
Oh woaw I want it in the game !
Any suggestions for my suggestion?
Being able to prevent weathering is something a lot of people are against
Been oversuggested
I said or at least slow it down, and I also suggested multi colored candles as an alternative use
How about the candle idea
Especially when it's with materials/means that are available from the start of the game in meadows.
Maybe more advanced bee hives locked behind iron
I feel like colored candles would work better if made with the same materials used for colored banners
Yeah
I meant the items like coal and berries that are the color of the banner and added with the fine wood
The thing is, the wood degrading is part of the reasons you need a roof, plus you can freely repair the wood so its not that bad.
And the decayed wood can do for good design with certain builds meant to look older or something
you are encouraged to repair more often now because of the build skill
@mellow crater so some questions on your idea if you don't mind....
what if you lose the spear?
a friend picks it up?
The slot could be unlocked when it's picked up by someone else (also there should be no auto pickup for other's spears
), or after a short timer
I thought the same.
the idea is the ghost item is either;
- timed - just keep it reservered for a few seconds is enough OR
- the ghost slot is an item that can be thrown out to "clear" the slot - but its not really an item - i.e. dropping it causes the Item script to generate nothing
That’s a good way to describe it
Slot could lose its ‘ghost status’ once an item is manually placed in that slot perhaps? In the case of an inventory being full, the slot can be used as a last resort to auto-pick up any items 🤔
yeah - that too
lots of ways it could be created - whatever suits the existing code base best
I would also make the item particles more heavy for thrown spears
One last option/suggestion is thrown spears are excluded from the "auto pickoff - off" function. So a thrown spear (not a "dropped spear") is always attempted to be picked up.
That way you dont need to modify inventory code - just modify the thrown spear to have a unique flag
that one might be the easiest to get working
but I don't call the shots
my last play-throughs with spears I never ever had this problem
enough people have issues tho with it, but yeah
You do have more authority over a community member tho
I got a video somewhere of me throwing the spear, and it resulted in me picking up some bukeberries I was standing on top of (had full inventory), and I pressed "1" as the spear button thinking I was going to pick it up and spam again, and instead started puking next to a Brute.
Ended the speedrun... lol...
the issue is.. if it's not something I belive in, I won't push it forward either 🤔
Or at least you have more say in things
sounds like great youtube material
there was swearing at first - but I look back and laugh now
but yeah - I'm assuming maybe too late for the combat update - but another patch - who knows. Would be a nice option....
It's only just been announced, we have no idea how close to release that update is
just not getting my hopes up 😉
it's not likly it will be added anytime soon. if at all
p.s. you could also change "m_enableAutoPickup" to be 3x state enum instead of a bool. So pressing the auto pickup button results in the following HUD messages:
Autopickup - everything
Autopickup - spears only
Autopickup - nothing
And pressing the autopickup button just cycles all three options - gives people a choice
#suggestions i'm sorry, a digital art feature doesn't fit in valheim
If there were to be anything to change about styles, I’d rather just see a way to change the style after you’ve already crafted the item 🤔
It’s far from priority though, imo
Rather than try and strive for the game to be better, I will actively use my own personal agendas to not address issues that affect players.
Bravo.
Some form of community manager huh 🤨
I thought smiffes opinions on suggestions didnt affect whether something will happen or not?
Because with this statement smiffe clearly it does
Well see he's just one vote, but when he doesn't forward something that matters, it's 100% of the vote 🙂
This is so very obvious when seeker bug exists for years, never gets forwarded or anything, and then Afrayedknot fixes it in one day.
Not sure if you saw the public test chat yesterday; the seeker bug fix is in their “ready for QA” pipeline. Not sure if that meant it was specifically coming in the combat patch, but a proper fix is coming.
Not everyone is allowed to use mods 🙂
so I’m still affected when doing speed runs 🙂
so I’m happy a fix is coming.
Wonder if it'll address cultist or if that's another 3 year angle
Also i'm more than confident thread and archy would allow that tbh
Wait, what was this bug with seekers?
Damn
I feel smiffe just has a bad habit of phrasing things poorly from time to time and leads to his statements being grossly misinterpreted. He has stated many times before that he does pass along all of the ideas to the rest of the team, so his statement here doesn't mean what it sounds like. I believe "push it forward" was meant to mean "give it support" as opposed to "forward the idea to the other team members".
Of course there is a massive difference in the time it takes for a single isolated bug to be fixed in this context. The developers have all other bugs to look over and manage, all with varying priority levels, as well as developing the next update and managing the entire rest of the game (a single random bug is like a needle in a haystack to them). A modder on the other hand can cherry pick a single isolated topic and only has to focus on that one project. If I asked a group of people to write out the names of every single person on the planet, and then asked another individual to only write down a single specific name, it would be unfair and disingenuous to complain about the group taking a very long time to write down that specific name while the individual was able to immediately.
Should absolutely not take 3 years to address a game breaking bug that ruins multiple hardcore runs and speedruns, especially when the issue is very clearly presented and solutions had been proposed MULTIPLE times
"We move forwards, not backwards 🙃 "
Clearly it's not as high of a priority as you seem to think it is or should be. You have an extremely niche playstyle, of course things from your perspective stray very far from the norm and reality. What I stated is plain and simple the reason why any specific individual cherry picked issue can take a long time to be addressed. To the average player playing the game normally (i.e. not hardcore or very hard difficulty) the bug in question does suck to encounter but is far from being game breaking, hence why to the developers it's a much lower priority.
It's absolutely not niche to be using an atgeir, a good majority of the players use it
Anyone that uses an atgeir has been and will be punished by the seeker bug, it's unfair and absolutely should be addressed
Valheim prides itself on being a polished experience, I don't see why this shouldn't be addressed
Or maybe we're only forwarding bugs that we have personal agendas for? 🤨
They clearly do care about things that only affect a small amount of players, so what exactly are you arguing?
The bug is annoying for anyone who plays melee combat. It doesnt just target a tiny minority of players. Its just less punishing on lower difficulties. So yeah no idea what hes arguing at all.
More than confident too that he's also been affected by it, just doesn't recognize that he has
Atgeir being a niche playstyle is a good joke
I dont think hes even watched the clips
I also like how, because i'm a niche player and I do things no one else does/can, that my experiences and worries about the game are completely invalid
Wonderful insights all around
Just average behaviour from stranded at sea tbh but he believes his opinion is the only one
🤔 although, experience can cloud your opinion on things
But I have no horse in this race
I'd argue that because i'm so niche and have a really good grasp of the combat system, that my concerns and experiences should be taken more seriously, and not disregarded
Like I have opinions about how overpowered berserkir potions are, but I'm also able to recognize that the downsides of those potions don't really affect me because of where i'm at in the game
And that berserkir potions actually have a good risk vs reward for the majority of players
I'd also argue that you need the opinion of a low-mid level player
But this is about a bug anyway, I only read 2 messages before I speak
Well yes, ofc, take all sides of a "Story"
I can't unfortunately
But ye
Berserkir potions i think arent that bad bcos you have to make a lot of them.and always carry them around, whereas ratatosk is insanely busted, given how much armor you sacrifice for +3% speed per fenris piece (+8% if swapping heavy armor), NO WORRIES drink dirt cheap potion for honey and bluebs, permenantly maintainable +15% speed and 10 run levels
Yea, speed pot is insane
Its just baffling to me ratatosk is introduced as 15% instead of like 5 or even 10%
5 or 10% would be much better yea
People who previously gamed on full fenris can now run heavy armor and ratatosk; move at the same speed and now have 10/20/30/40 extra armor depending on biome
Brutal survival game but we make the game easier each patch 😏
#AllHardContentHasBeenNerfed
We need a +30 armor potion next
Potion of the Rocky
10 raspberries and 10 honey and a rock
💡 time to suggest
🤙
no cuz this is actually crazy
oh well
Mage with ratatosk is literally immortal
🤙
Here's to hoping the combat update addresses mage
🤙
I just hope the level of cheese doesn't get to crazy with sloped combat
You can already cheese all of sloped combat
It's not niche to use an atgeir, it's niche to play very hard single death (no food?) runs. For most players, that bug has much less impact.
I don't even recall atgeirs being mentioned until they brought it up part way through the discussion.
Is there some context I'm missing?
It’s still a bug that causes issues and is unfair to the player
Bug happens with the atgeir play style, maybe you should read up on a topic before you chat.
It is, but for most players it's not that important, so it does not make top of the priority list
So who decides what's top priority
the devs?
All just depends on what smiffe forwards to the team 🙂
Because there are many low priority bug fixes aren't there?
And they likely order it (amongst other things) by how many people are impacted
Many many players are impacted by the seeker bug
The mental gymnastics to excuse a bug existing in the game for 3 years now is crazy
Don't you think you got tunnel vision on this one, because it's so important to you? I'm sure there are other bugs, that have been there for 3 years..
Great argument
There’s other bugs that have existed for same duration if not longer that makes x bug less important
Like what come on now
It's abundantly clear that they have a major personal bias here clouding their judgement. It's lead to a lot of disingenuous takes and makes it a wasted effort even trying to explain things to them at this point. I'd say it's best to abandon ship and save the headache.
No, it has no influence on the importance of bug x, it just means that it's a reality that some bugs for whatever reason are not fixed. That can be frustrating, but your bug is not the only one and not more important just because you care so much about it.
So by your argument, every bug thats been there for 3 years should have been fixed by now?
Edited in order to patch this point I hadn’t thought about
I don't understand though
It almost sounds like you're against it
Cut the devs out of the discussion
It's a bug, wish it's fixed
Ofc I’m gonna be an advocate for things that make my experience of the game worse
I don't get what you are trying to say
If people have issues with other stuff, speak up
Yeah, ofc, we all are. It's the expectation that it should take priority before other things that I don't understand
As in I don't understand why we discuss priority on personal level or if they care or not
Says the guy that hasn’t even read up on the topic
A bug that is unfair towards a play style, players, and happens commonly should obviously be prioritized
Imagine the riot if staff of protection just didn’t absorb some random attack
And that's where we disagree. For most players it just does not have the impact it does for you.
The "loosing ore in multiplayer because of smelter network issues" issue is much more important, so it should obviously be fixed before the seeker stagger bug, right?
I’m an advocate for fixing all bugs
But there comes to a point where older stuff should be prioritized
I'm pretty sure the network issues are just as old
I don’t really play multiplayer so can’t say 🤷♂️
That's my point, neither you nor I have the complete picture about what bug impacts the most players the hardest (and what cost there is to fixing them)
For the seeker bug it’s literally one line of code btw
And that solution has been presented and verified
And the fix is coming
or not? I thought it's on the announced list for the combat update, but maybe im wrong
Should not take 3 years
Same way server issues or x or y should also not take that long
It’s wild it’s a hot take to want issues to be fixed in the game
That's not a hot take, I too want issues to be fixed.
But saying it should not take 3 years for a game in EA is in my opinion (it would be a whole other story if the game was fully released)
V rising EA as a counter point example
They had a similar audio issue that is going on with the Ashlands rn and they addressed it in 3 days
There was a combat bug affecting a small community of the game (pvp) and they addressed it in 4 days
All while in EA
So how's that list coming along of every person that's ever lived on the planet? It only takes a few seconds to write out John Smith's name, so why haven't you done it yet? And I don't want to hear any excuses that you were busy writing out a million other names first.
😂
When one name is highlighted and the solution to the name is verified the job is done 😂
Don’t gotta write out all of the million other names, work smarter not harder
The point is those other million names could also be highlighted/cherry picked and have solutions, and you can only focus on and write one name at a time. There are many different groups of people highlighting and demanding/requesting countless other bugs be fixed as well, you're just a tiny drop in the ocean expecting to be treated like the whole ocean itself, same with all of the other groups wanting their own specific cherry picked bugs to be fixed first.
But see there isn’t
No one else has provided solutions and verified and have it be an incredibly easy fix
you give me way to much power.
we have a QA manager that will go through all the bugs reported by players on our website aswell.
so it's not just me choosing what will be prioritized. I report what I get told and what I can reproduce. Then it's up to QA manager to sort and prioritize
Well. It's not open to the public how we operate and such. So it's easy to assume
Explain this then smiffe
You wrote this to re-interpret in the most negative light Smiffe's statement that he will "only push for changes he also personally believes in". Not only is his original statement entirely reasonable, it doesn't contradict a QA manager's existence or greater deciding power on what bugfixes get patched.
You should take a break from the internet if you think berating and insulting someone is the best way to improve their attitude about giving you what you want.
begging for battleaxe buff day 2
It’s entirely reasonable to not forward bugs if he doesn’t think they’re worth talking about?
Correct
You think a developer choosing which bugs are worth addressing in his own game are "mental gymnastics"?
Smiffe doesn’t care about bug x because it doesn’t affect him —> causes players to live with certain bug that ruins enjoyment —> justified behavior and good system
To be fair, everyone was arguing under that notion
They were more or less justifying
See now this is a great example of mental gymnastics. Note how you had to change "developer choosing which bugs are worth addressing" to "doesn't care about bug x because it doesn't affect him" in order to present in a more negative light.
Priority yada yada
Nope, I’m using what he said because I don’t think you understood
With that statement smiffe made, it sounds like if he doesn’t personally care about it, he won’t push it forward
Would love if he reevaluated that statement
Did you even read what the thing I was talking about?
Yep
I don't deem the spear not ending up in your inventory after you threw it to be a game bug
just as I don't deem arrows not being able to be picked up after you fired them from your bow, to be a bug
Can you clearly explain what you mean by this
Because it sounds like, if there’s a bug you don’t care about, you won’t push it forward
no because you will try to twist it around to make me look like a bad person again
if it's a bug, I will write it up
if it's not a bug, I won't add it as a bug
It’s not twisting words when the phrasing is like that
Words have meaning
hey smiffe is that a Astronaut kitten on your pp
btw i had a idea that you can find a special altar in Frost Caves that Spawn a special pet Wolf that respawns after 5 or 10 minutes when it dies can teleport with you every where that a buddy for forever
I could barely read this morning, but I guess the question is this
Idk what this bug is
but if it exists, did any of the devs deem it low priority?
if not, then there are people talking on devs behalf
because all I could glean is, priority this priority that
on your what?
it's a astro-kitten
any ideas --> #suggestions
its so cute :d
In that case why aren't Smiffe's sufficient?
Because they’re phrased in a way that’s unclear and vague
And him choosing not to clarify makes it even worse
what don't you understand in what Smiffe said ? I find it crystal clear
hindsight is 20/20
Well, it's clear for me 🤷♀️ if someone make a suggestion that Smiffe doesn't believe in, he will not push it 🤷♀️ what is hard to understand in that ?
Not a suggestion, but a bug
That’s what I’d like clarification on but he refused 🙃
it is clear now though
is it still about the throwing spear thing ? if so, there is no bug
but can't deny that it wasn't clear before
sure there can be improvement, but as long as there is no bug it doesn't need to have fixes
what is this mindset
I’d argue not forwarding improvements is just as bad
Players are the best at finding what feels good and what feels bad
#suggestion-discussion message look at this message and Smiffe's answer
there are ways to say things, and saying it's a bug that need to be fixed will not convinced Smiffe to do something about it
If you look at the text I link, Smiffe gave a maybe type answer
so why are we still discussing about it ?
why not?
cause obviously it will not go further than that 🤷♀️
how do you know this?
the way Smiffe answered to the next text idk but he gave a maybe, he don't have all the powers on the game dev so a maybe is already great
then there are reasons to discuss it time and time again
with new people, I haven't been part of it
now i'll add my opinion, to me as a player, spear virtually has no Mouse 3 attack
which pushes me and all my friends away from that weapon
None of this is enough reason to shut down the discussion
the only thing that would is another topic that's more interesting
on the record, I absolutely hate spear
I personally don't really like playing with spears anyway, but my partner does and it's true that he was complaining about the pick up spear problem, but again it's not a bug and we have a maybe improvement 🤷♀️
as for the bug, wasn't it something about seekers?
that shit I don't know about
but if it's a bug, it's a bug
It's easier to find against seekers but can be done with any creature if you stagger them at the right time
Wild here in discussions this morning/timezone 👀 🍿
this morning yeah was wild, gave my opinions without even reading
that's how wild it was
cus it looked fun but I was busy, so I dropped in with what might be nonsense and left
There’s a bit much for me to read, I doubt I really have an opinion on the matter 🤔
Thought there would be a lot of happiness going around with the news that got released
the sloped combat news?
I don't know of any changes to how the spear mechanics works
just to be clear
all I wanted was for vMatt to explain more on his idea
clear for me 👍
Near armaments and combat stuff, yee 🙂↕️
can't wait to see what it'll be 😄
I anticipate a lot more combat cheese opportunities, hopefully the pathing is also getting some tweaks, because it isn't hard to snag up an enemy on a slope.
So much cheese would disappear if only a super-early game tool could no longer quickly create unreachably high and undestructible platforms. That option could be at least.reserved to a mid game tool/upgrade.
Player just has too much agency to make any effective no cheese methods
if you want to cheese the game, irongate will not be able to stop you it's that simple
yeah you could even broke the game by abusing game save files
There are few constants in life. Cheese is one of them.
Cheese for everyone!
😄
We don't really have much of ak opinion if you choose to cheese your own game experience. If you want to, go ahead. It's not our experience you're cheesing.
Absolute gigachad developers
I love me some cheese 🧀
Very good with fries and gravy sauce, makes a poutine 🤤
canada's superpower
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ROCKY
Cheese or not, how you play is entirely up to the gamer themselves
#suggestions message would not be opposed to seeing more build pieces using the cogs, would’ve been neat to have a 1m wide portcullis and/or a large castle gate piece 🤔
how would you open it from the outside?
if you use it as an entrance to a port, how would you open it from a ship?
Could always make the lowering gate be toggleable. Such gates were never intended to be left unmanned. There was always a gate guard to controlled them. Making them toggleable would seem odd though.
Now an iron portcullis could work. Vertical door.
Ohh man not more iron please
Black iron?
i would rather
How would you reach it? Especially from the other side of obstacles (like moats)
to be honest i wish there was more usage of steel its easiest to farm if you ask me
especialy after ashlands
Well, if it is lowered, interacting with it will cause it to raise. The problem is if it’s up and you can’t get to it, then it doesn’t work. Unless there is another item that can somehow toggle it but that goes into levers and lines and things that aren’t in the game or planned for as far as I know.
Just spitballing, but maybe you don’t 👀 gotta make a backup entrance in case you get locked out.
Though this already seems pretty complex for Valheim
but it’s a fun thought experiment.
How will you go outside without lowering it?
A door doesn't close itself when you walk out does it??? :/
You can always have two connected.
Going out: close the outer one.
Inside the base: Close the inner one.
so you would leave it open? and what if something enters? you also don't leave a gate open whenever you leave your house
I feel that having an opening mechanism attached to the opposite side via a chain link would suffice. Drawbridges would be added for decoration/design purposes more than anything, and given that enemies aren't able to open simple and basic doors, safe to say they wouldn't be able to use the opening mechanism on the outside either.
I literally solved your problem with the 2nd paragraph.
-_-
Forget it
....| |....
would could make it you need to shoot an arrow across the moat to hit the lever on the other side, lowering the bridge!
(I've seen that in some games before - pretty funny mechanic)
(not a serious suggestion for here)
What if u run out of arrows?
wasnt a serious suggestion
What if your bow breaks?
but honestly you could chop a tree nearby and build them
introduce "throw a stone" mechanic
🤣
More homework for the devs, but actually that mechanic would be very cool, a small rock as a distraction
Can toss ooze bombs, but not rocks to distract asksvins smh
The next option would be flint spear lol
And then the new mechanic xD
oh wow... for some reason I thought it was 10%.
15% - thats pretty huge - I always knew it felt fast, I just didnt consciosuly note the 15% for some reason...
#fanart message There's a crude illustration of how it could work, and what I assume you meant.
Would be ideal if that was one whole object, so you only need to interact with it once while going in or out.
Yess!!! Like that!!
I love this so much 😂
It reminds of those Saddam Hussein hiding spot memes LOL
#suggestions message would be a very interesting mechanic in an ‘expert mode’ difficulty, perhaps for certain mobs 🤔
Would be a good step in the right direction, something more than raw dmg number changes would be good. But for real difficulty there needs to be new ai and new attacks that elavate the difficulty.
#suggestion-discussion message
Thought this conversation sounded familiar 😁
#suggestions message
I think I'd make it its own slider, if anything.
I wish though enemies had a certain zone they can hear better when it comes to Fuling villages, cause I'll be trampling alive their shamans and berserkers whilst the sentinels are just passing around a blunt chilling.
Maybe there could be an alarm bell added to the village that a Fuling will go ring or something.
Makes me think of something to add to the Elder's power; reduced noise!
Stealth power with wood, so it gives it a better purpose without making it too OP
Plus having more stealth in the Swamp would be good
huh - a forsaken power that reduces noise in area would actually be interesting... the primary issue is how noise is programmed its not always associated with a player - i.e. if a tree falls in the woods and no player is around to hear it, does a troll start wondering towards it 🙂
Maybe the Elder's ability could make it so you chop wood much faster, but also are less noticeable. Think of it like sneaking constantly even if not sneaking, thus at least if something shows up, and you sneak; you'd get a massive advantage on surprise-attacking the thing
yeah - faster wood chopping with less noise would actually be super useful...
edit; honestly just changing the elder bonus from +60% wood choppingh to -50% resource noise gather would actually be a super interesting choice... makes the buff viable all game as a decision as to which one to use...
Yeah the two can go hand in hand especially when trying to cut trees and then a whole bloody mob of greydwarfs shows up like; "Yo got games on your phone?"
You pull out the lightning slayer; The greydwarfs; "Nahhhh, I'd win"
What if Elders ability Gives Damage boost to axes could be so op :d we have 2 defense ability and there is queens bot no ofanssive one
I thought about that before, but then it'd make axes too OP if you use this power
Although an other thing I thought is;
Eikthyr is stamina-centered
Queen is Eitr-Pickaxe centered
Elder could be health centered. Something like a lingering health potion effect, which honestly after doing Swamp Solo on Hard last week, Gods above I wish Elder would give some regen
Even more than a sneaking ability, just health charging back for when the Draugr are smacking you would be welcomed
I walked into the Swamp and immediately three Draugrs showed up swinging axes 😭
to be honest that would be interesting to what if elder gives health regen when you are wet ?
That would be game changing
Just in general, it could just regenerate you, I'm not saying some crazy regen, just something like the lingering health potion
Which in later game, you could stack lingering health + Elder
It'd give Elder some actual usage because even when I go and cut wood, I never use it 😂
I had idea about Root armor set have a extra set bonuses that when you are wet your armor set gives more protecting
I'm not spending 20 minutes of wait just to cut wood a little faster, its not worth it, I prefer keeping bonemass ready in case
I usualy use trolls for chopping wood at these point
Troll labor is wild 😂
Todays topic slavery
Trolling the trolls 😂
the health regen idea sounds pretty great to me
especialy in the swamp when you constantly wet you usualy die of slow health and stamina regen
It would make the Swamp a little less painful to go through without making it easy either honestly
Plus, the Elder's power is honestly useless. It takes more time to go to spawn to grab it (even with a direct portal to it) and activate it only for 5 minutes of quick wood chopping.
Not worth it at all.
Plus chopping wood in Valheim is like the one game where chopping wood is actually fun
Domino tree~
To be honest İt was not a great experience when you are new and have under 60 health
Dying to a tree is wild, but we all at least do once
one of my friends rage quited after dying to a tree
The most powerful enemies in my opinion to deal with are Growths
I will kill a Fallen Valkyrie, 5 Vultures, ~10 Charred skeletons, and 4 askvins attacking me at once (Happened twice 😭 )
But five growths jumped me yesterday and I was nearly bodied.
Managed to win, but I was smelling my death
That's wild 😂
yeah those damn growths
They're absolutely adorable jumping around, but they're absolutely horrifying when they do a drive by
i was just using my maximum level gears mistland and ashland feasts and a health food that gives 105 health that i forgot his name
i just wana test my new weapons on yagluth when i teleport plains immeadiatly and 5 6 of them appeared middle of nowhere gave me hearth attack even with those gear
The one thing I got left to do is beat Fader
I only recently got back into the game, about two months ago, mainly helped friends get to my level, then did Ashland in record time, but yeah... One guy I was talking with and was supposed to do Fader with we don't speak no more, so haven't yet done it.
And every time I could, well, I'm not sober enough to dare try 😂 😂 😂
Not gonna lie, I thought the lava slimes were going to shoot fireballs like growths, would have made them soooo much more terrifying
Fader is a great experience -
The music is fire
MY MAN DON'T GİVE THEM ANY İDEAS
My lady* 😂
But yeah, Fader's music is fire Badum tiss 🔥
I'd honestly prefer fire growth than kamikaze that lags the hell out of my PC with like; 506040239 graunsten dropping
about fader i died just 3 times my first try 1 of them was trying to get my gears back
i had a very bad spawn that faders arena was middle of a lava lake
The boss that killed me the most was the Elder the first time I killed it.
i thought it was a normal spawn and it was so cool
Playing the game before the portals and loot spawn rates was wild
that would have been so cool i wish it was something like that
Personally, I wished Fader's spawn was locked behind a massive fort of charred skeletons to take over and like, his spawn room was in the middle or something
funny enough only bosses that i never died in this game are moder and elder i even died eikthr once
The Queen's spawn was just a looooot cooler than his, guess its why she the Queen
yess
Eikthyr is a problem on Very Hard 😂
That Would be so interesting btw maybe devs will adds something to that later
btw way my first death to Fader was not from fader a 2 star askvin appeared no where and sended me to lava
Perhaps, I kinda thought the boss arenas were going to be more akin to the Queen's after the Mistlands
what does akin mean
Akin, of the same type, basically resembling
its means smiliar ?
Yes, just in a very fancy way 😂
Anyway İ thought like that too
No, akin comes from kin, which is related to kind, a type
İ hope they rework boss altars too i like them like their this versions but especialy moder spawn
Ohhh by the way, check my suggestion!
Ocean related stuff
#suggestions message
i think moder needs a arena because she litteraly having ahard time to walking
İ read that its such a great idea i wonder would there be
The only one I'd change is Fader's to a fortress.
Moder could be more fluid in her movement it would solve the issue I feel lile
maybe 2 serpent raid
Nyeh, I prefer my tentacles 🦑
it could solve
i rather variation of raids
You didn't read my suggestion, there's a lot more to it
Nevermind...
but i am not sure about you can use melee against them i imagined tentacles around the sizes of Elders root
i can imagine my self having a hard time to hit them and do not fall from boat at the same time
Again, didnt read the thing cause I didnt say the same size.
More like abomimation legs
İ woke up just now sorry :/ i am usualy very dizzy at the morning
to be honest the part where its most interest me is
i couldnt find it there was a part that you said it drop a mead item that attracts serpent
i am sure i read it but couldnt find the exact part
i am constantly huntig serpents until mistlands in hard mode the 1.5 damage modifier
Well, its a whole idea, it goes together, but anyway, I shall be on my merry way.
Not sober enough to keep up this discussion toddles
Skol
it could help me a lot
Vote it up it may help
i hope there would be more staff before 1.0
btw when you think about that you could give a another usage to bog witch about attracting serpents
maybe one of the ingredients of mead is with tentacles and bog wtih
btw i think fishes are so usuels at this point
maybe raw fish too
imagine devs adding these but making its drops sink to bottom
btw i am not sure about the custom sails it could give devs a lot of problem
this might be something of a hot take but i think some of the forsaken powers are borderline useless and not worth the effort of walking to the sacrificial stones and back
I find everything but bonemass (and the occasional eikthyr and moder) sort of redundant
Or maybe I’m too much of a sucker for bonemass
everything has its use
Elder and Yagluth are more underwhelming ones.
yeah i agree
