My hours will probably double once 1.0 drops
Currently still sitting at 881hours and waiting patiently for the last major update ๐ฅบ
I have ALOT in mind on what to do,but that will have to wait till 1.0 releases
I remember the good olde days when games were released complete. No updates at all.
Its very nice to have a full product but there is one thing finished games cant beat
Excitement, especially for a game's final major update
You get the feel of "Oh shit, were actually here, the last biome."
And the sadness
That aswell
But still that journey of it all is so worth it
A lot rage inducing moments, satisfying moments, and most importantly memorable moments
Meanwhile, games like TES5 were released and re-released many times and they are still so glitchy xD I wish TES5 would have "updates", to deal with a lot of that.
Releasing a finished game often means it will have many bugs and glitches that will only be discovered as we play.
Releasing early access means they have more room to fix glitches and bugs as we play, so we basically help to fix the game before the oficial release. Which isn't bad.
If I had the ability to remove all memory of me ever playing or knowing about valheim and re-expirence it, I honestly would do it
I've said the same thing. Also Subnautica. And Skyrim too since Alves mentioned it.
Maybe Elden Ring as well
Subnautica is up there aswell for me quite a memorable game
In fact I did a quick run of it again like a month ago
I've been recommended that one a lot too. Havent been able to try it yet tho...
Do it. And don't look up anything online, it's best figured out while playing.
You will probably crap yourself, I promise you ๐
But yes experience it without knowledge
Got it ^^
You will probably get ptsd from a certain... encounter
I love the random curve ball the game throws at you about midway in. You think you've figured out what it's about and then "wtf was that??"
Is it actually an adventure game or a horror game? (Subnautica)
combination of the two
:))
But more specifically its a survival game
Very subtle horror, if you could call it that. There was a couple of instances I found genuinely disturbing.
I heard it's like "alien" stuff but with underwater exploration, or something...
I went out of my way finding and neutralizing every single one
But the sense of isolation and exploration is second to none. I love games that make me feel alone in a big world, and Subnautica excels at this.
Valheim is quite similar but atleast you have tamables and neutral creatures such as the dvergrs
big bases can feel quite empty
Oh, it actually has a discount on steam rn ๐
And I don't work this friday... longer weeked... so I might buy it.
Exploration sure, but I don't get much of a sense of isolation with Valheim.
Its because valheim has a sense of scale
You're bound to encounter something
It seems to be on special, at least in Australia.
Subnautica does NOT
You have no idea what might be in the dark waters
That was me for my first time playing
I see. I just checked on the browser now. I'll check later on my steam acc too. Maybe it also has a discount ๐
I feel bad for those with thallasaphoba ๐ญ
The sameness of the Valheim world doesn't help. Subnautica felt pretty big when I first played it because of the biome variation.
I've gotten used to valheim's scale
portals help a lot
How big is the subnautica map, btw?
But yeah I do feel you with Subnautica feeling bigger
Fast travel is one thing I don't like in games, but I understand the necessity. I used to fast travel in Skyrim all the time until I did a playthrough without it. I was missing out on so much stuff. And the world felt bigger too which I liked.
All I can say its static, no random seed, no changes
Looking at it, it looks smalls
It's not huge, but it has depth
But actually getting into it... yeah whole different experience
Y'all are making me so curious this game keeps popping up in conversations in my life lol
Get it
I see ๐
Thank me later
Literally
I don't knowww I don't mind shocks or jumps scares but I'm not for something that is intentionally an oppressive atmosphere
There's some presure you need to deal with, though.
I love chat sometimes ๐ ๐
The closest jumpscare we can get to valheim is a troll and a goddamn bear
Serpents also do a good job at it...
Oh they'll discover it once they start playing
Not for me, SERPENT MEAT IS BACK ON THE MENU BOIS
I run head first into bears while sprinting and neither of us notice for like 2 seconds ๐ญ ๐
Or seeker in the mist. They usually make a noise when they aggro, but sometimes they don't, so they get me by surprise.
Idk there's times when youre in the mists and all of a sudden a lox appears in the plains or seekers in mistlands.
Yeah xD
Lox aswell... seekers fear me
Playing Mistlands on mute is a whole other playing field ๐
The big tree for jumspcares in valheim (literally big lol)
Trolls
Bears
Lox
I think ticks are worse. You run by something in the mist and all the sudden one jumps on your back and start sucking your HP down.
A normal one is something you can deal with. But a 2 โญ.....
How do u get jump scared by trolls tho you can see them from a mile away?
Their color kinda blends in the BF environment
I have had times when you're paying attention to something else and all of a sudden you're being hit with a log or a slam.
Fighting...
Mining...
Chopping...
You emit noise that covers their footsteps which gives them time to sneak up on you and jump you lol
Huh that's surprising I don't think I've ever not known a troll was there. Maybe 1 time only
Guess you never looked up from your copper mining pit because of doing a Skyrim bandit action? (AKA "I think I heard something") and then seeing a troll looking down on you from the surface.
Mind you SNEAKING behind you not infront of you
all it takes is like 4 trees to block your entire view
Seeing a giant tall ass blue man in front of you will surely alert you
No ๐
But combining mining, fighting, or anything that can cover their footsteps gives them the ability to sneak up behind you ๐ญ
I always see them on the hills and whatnot when I'm scanning I am always looking in all directions
To me they are very obvious ๐ญ
I've gotten used to the troll but they still get me from time to time
A pity trolls don't launch your character like giants in Skyrim.
Bears and lox are probably the ones that jumpscared me the most
Lure enemies to foreign biomes if possible.
And bears have the worst reaction times
Reap the loot
I think the one that jumpscared me the most is something that goes "Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt
followed by "Shit! I'm dead?"
Have you tried any Viles yet? They are very jumpscary
They're also super FAST
Yup and tanky
I was just thinking of Viles. Their screams are genuinely horrifying.
Sounds like you don't have root armor
If you dont have anything silver its a slow fight
Its not about facing the enemies head on...
its about the fact these enemies dont emit a damn sound as they sneak up on you, lox and bears are the fucking worst
If you see them head on YOU WILL BE ALERTED
Also if anyone wants a vile trophy I can donate one lol
You're guard is up when you know they're there in front of you so jumpscare is not a thing
Considering root armor didn't excist at the time....
Nope, I didn't have it.
Deathsquitos killed me the most I think. My stupidity for not using root harnesk. The times I did id always burn to death from a shaman.
The log trolls ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐ they are the worst... so much range
But once they sneak up behind you, its practically game over you're getting jumpscared no doubt
Ohh I only played after the bear update lol
Easy enough to parry when you're sufficiently leveled
I have quite sharp ears so I'm able to hear a deathsquito from a mile away
Great though if you're starting off and need fine wood or copper.
I'm playing since H&H. So I've seen a lot worse.
Still, not as much as those who started playing even before H&H.
Especially the fact im using earphones and not headphones
I have only ever not worn root armor so I have never developed more then a mild irritation to deathsquitos XD
Oh?
Light armor all the way
Similar but not like fenris level of speed
Its a medium set
It has light armor. But not like Fenris
Aww. Is fenris good to use there?
I like wearing the fenris legs. Although the suit will never not look like pajamas to me xD
Or youd want more def?
Fenris is always good IF you can avoid damage all together and are good at parrying and dodging
Probably looks like pajamas because it's warm and fluffy
๐บ
Yeah I like parrying with bucklers
Otherwise mix and match or go full heavy
That feather cape i absolutely adore.
I play heavy because im a greatsword main
I only reached mistlands recently
I love the Kron
Krom
Is there more greatswords?
Theres 1 more in ashlands
But with some specialtize
You'll know once you get there
Ive only got 7 fragments. So im close
I will warn you... melee against 6th boss is quite difficulty
And Ive found her lair its literally on the border of ashlands a bonemaw came along and scared the life out of me upon traveling there. The one time the wind was actually in my favour
And not for the weak
Ive been training elemental and blood magic
Only like level 25
Melee against Queen is very doable but it mostly comes down to precise timing
and dodge rolling
I would recommend going full magic if you're not confident against a boss that will be constantly in your face
But if you wanna go the masochist way, melee is the way to go
Yeah Im not looking forward to it all
I would not recommend the krom against queen unless you're VERY precise with your timing
The Queen does not leave a lot of ample room to get hits
I just enjoy it
The queen was the longest fight for our group of 3. And she is SOO ugly bro xD Moder is beautiful I wish she had the name queen
So time your hits right
Is she a bug?
The queen seeker
She's the queen of the seekers
Yes
Ffs
It's a hive
The matriarch of the seekers
Yes but furtunately not that game breaking
So yeah you'll be dealing with the big bad lady
Does she summon them to fight against you?
Also be warned she will constantly spawn swarms of seekers to attack u so be very used to fighting them
So bring wisplight and materials for wisp torches
No soldiers I think?
She doesn't spawn them
Thank god
Only seeker and seeker babies
Real ones know a solider is easier then a seeker ๐ญ
But still annoying to deal with
Im still a baby
Especially soldiers with stars. They are something else... ๐
Many struggle against seeker
Also poison resistant is a good idea
Have you encountered one with a 2star?
Oml yes!
Because I have...
I think only once ๐ค
I did the queen fight with my root harnesk ๐ ๐ญ
Is root good in mists?
Common dmg type is pierce yes
its good, even in ashlands
Oh wow
I started to find seekers easy when I learned their timings. Soldiers are still kinda tough... even if I try to dodge. And they are so tanky.
Underrated armor
Im a mistlander enjoyer so these things are not a problem for me anymore
Even the mist itself lol
Does that polearm himnalflf (idk how to spell) the electric one stun enemies?
Himminafl
The mist is still meh for me xD it's pretty but annoying sometimes haha
The element is just a damage add on, not that the electricity itself can stun
All the secondary attack on polearms have high stagger
Can you tell me how to find the infested mines. Is there some significant sign or way to spot these locations from a distance other than just blindly looking for them. I always find the Dvergr camps but never any mines.
seeker try to trick you with their attacks ๐
Awww, thanks for the clarification
I'm okay with the mist. I just wish for the purpose of making a clear base area the wisp torches cleared the mist in a radius that went UP. I have an annoying patch thta is hanging above my wisp torches
they come in the form of an abandoned dverger tower, or built into the valley walls. There will be 2 wisp toches on either side for the wall mines
I always get the dvergr
They can be in abandoned dvergr towers, on the bottom floor, or in caves on the rock that have these high and long stairs usually.
Theres 2 types
very easy to distinguish
The one with stairs are mostly found at the outer regions of your mistlands mostly near shores of the ocean
the second variant is the abandoned dvergr outpost, you'll recognize it with seekers flying on top of the outpost itself
I think those are the two types of mines entrances.
I love that they got 3 different summaries lol
Its best to climb up the tall rock formations to get a better view of the landscape, and take general note of which direction the POIs are
But there's no like rock shapes that all have like a similar sizes indicating a mine? Other than the abandoned dvergr tower camps
The one near the shores have 3 spikes jutting outwards
Like sometimes I'd be jumping rock to rocks looking around and cant see anything
You'll recognize it once you get on top of rock formations
Ooo I didnt know that. Thank you
Are they big spikes?
Simply put
If you see 3 or more spike formations jutting outwards, its likely an infested mine
My friend was like nah you just find them. I was like that's like trying to find a needle in a haystack there must be a way
That's great to hear I really appreciate you telling me
The thing to take note of is to never always be at ground level in mistlands, you're goal here is to find the 2 main POIs, dvergr outposts and infested mine, always be at the top of rock formations to get a better view of your mistlands
Kinda like dungeons in other biomes, they have a defined structure, but they blend well in the landscape (plus, there's mist), so it can be confusing at first. But once you know the type of rock formation, it will be easier to find.
Only go down when you're making your way to a different rock formation or to a POI
That was exactly what I said to him ๐ that other locations have them so why not here
Just make sure your HP is always above 100, in case you fall ๐
Yeah, that too
Oh god I'm really doing it wrong Ive been blindly running around the ground floor
Mostly chasing the hares ๐
Then running into gjalls and seekers. Ultimately my deaths
Many complained about mistlands because of well... the mist, that's because "You just aint doin it right!"
Ground is good/essential for some resources. But maybe not so good for POIs. Unless you are near the sea or in certain areas where there's usually less mist.
The... ground?
OH I SEE
Like, ground level. As opposite to being in high places.
yeah you'll be down there from time to time getting necessary resources
I thought it was best to always be low bc if you're high you miss everything ๐ญ I also didn't know the mines had markers xD
Mistlands and Mountain are the best biomes to lvl up Jump ๐๐
A lot of people hate mistlands to the point some quit because of that biome specifically and I do not blame them
It's the most beautiful biome tho
I wish the wisp cleared more so its easier to see ahead of you
Mist is such a nuisance but its practically nothing to a lot mistland enjoyers
Yeah, I was gonna say that too. It is very beautiful.
Sail the edges
Im on xbox cant do any mods
Sailing IN the mistlands is never a good idea
you're bound to get jumped by flying bugs
If not a soldier
Or worse...
The flying tick.
๐
My friends said to bring all my bars down to get ready to sail to the ashlands
I usually find a dvergr port and leave my boat there like forever...
then basically I just move with portals between my base and the important places in the Mistlands.
I died several times on the journey
I hope they fix crossbow level up and add an extra speed for reloading
Once level gets higher and higher
Yeah 2 flying seekers came over 1 blue 1 star hit me so hard I fell over board and took 3/4 of my hp and the other then killed me in the water.
Hum... the Ashlands are still a little far away at this point, since you have to finish the Mistlands. So I wouldn't say to bring all of it now. You might need to bring some materials by boat for the extractors tho.
And even for the Ashlands, I don't think you will need all your stuff. Just some essentials.
The plan is to take on the queen tomorrow ๐
I see. ๐
I have 7 fragments and I found another mine recently
Then the Ashlands are getting closer haha
iirc
(0)Seeker = greyish
(1)Seeker = purple
(2)Seeker = red
(0)Soldier = greyish
(1)Soldier = purple
(2)Soldier = blue
I may be color blind
Aren't the blue ones the one star?
I always mix up blue and purple
Both seeker and soldier for 1stars are purple
correct me if im wrong
but for their 2star counter parts they have different colors
I met a soldier 2 earlier today who was purple
How come lox and some other creatures like abomination dont have stars?
๐ค maybe I am remembering wrong.. but I have seen many more blue and almost no purple. And I have this memory of 1star being a pretty blue color.
1 star soldiers are more blueish
Wait let me check the screenshot
Yeah, that's it!
No you're right 2star soldier is purple
Do they have a trinket for their trophy? If so is it any good?
The purple ones are also much darker. Black and purple.
nope, and that's good because they really don't want to drop their trophy ^^
Only useful for respawning the queen
Or decoration UwU
Oversized turkey
it's 5% chance on a mob you don't met everywhere so...
Food decoration
Are all trophy's 5%?
Now i can't unsee the turkey
I believe so
Oh wow
according to the wiki, some 5, some 10
The rest feel common because we just encounter the enemies a lot more meaning more chances for trophy
Im trying for the Vile trophy atm
Compared to something like a vile
Guys, magic is so fun. I slept on it since Mistlands release because royal jelly was a non-renewable ressource, but now I'm trying it. I just took a 2 star soldier, then 2 gjall at the same time, then an entire fuling camp without sweating. skelly + bubble is so good for tanking
Trolls are 50%
Serpents and bonemaws are pretty high too
33%
Deer are also 50% because otherwise Eikthyr would be insanely annoying to reach
So no they aren't nearly all 5%
are portals proximity based? say you have 2 connected to 'Home' and you move 100m away and set up 2 portals and name both of them 'Home' (so now there are 4 portals tag set 'Home').. they connect to each other .. is this intended behavior?
You can name portals the same but only 2 can connect to each other.
so the first 2 portals would be considered null?
Only one name per connection
If you have first 2 portals with the tag they stay connected to each other and next 2 named the same are connected to each other.
Even with the exact same name?
correct .. this is what I was asking as intended behavior ...
Yes, or even without the name/tag.
It seems intented, only 2 portals can connect, no more than that.
So to farther expand on this ... if 'Home' is set in Meadow and 'Home' is set in BF ... then add a 2nd set 'Home' in swamp and 'Home' in Mountain .. the 2nd set would connect to each other and the 1st set would connect to each other ...
Meadow>BF ... Swamp>Mountain ..
Interesting. I hadn't realised you could use the same name. I figured they just wouldn't connect
but all tagged 'Home' ..
They won't connect to the already connected pair of the same name/tag.
Yeah, but I thought the other two with the same tag wouldn't connect.
They connect in order they're build and named.
thanks
Did someone say otherwise?
i completed the game 9 times and never encountered any sign of a chicken
Surprise!
i saw a tiktok tutorial and thought it was a mod
You buy eggs off Trader after a certain point.
the blue lil guy?
The OG trader, yeah
Haldor after you defeat Yagulth
ima assume after plains
ahh W
Also they can be obtained without Haldor: ||bottom level of sealed towers||.
ooo
Ok why the hell did nobody tell me about the Dundr.
I've completely skipped over that weapon, and it's so freaking cool.
The sound design, the way it loads, the way it just completely DISINTEGRATES whatever is in front of it.
you have to be careful reloading it, if you interrupt the reload you still lose the eitr
That's fine
I use it as a fight opener with a non magic setup
Flametal armor, Mistlands and Plains feasts, and either a health food or an eitr food.
chickens are the best tameable
no contest
everything else is tedious or not needed much (idk about askvin but that mob is more of a bitch than lox)
Ashlands seems to be more catered to mistlands non magic builds at the start
why can charred warriors spawn randomly with 2 stars at day but not twitchers or marksmen
Randomly, or in one time spawn points?
random spawns, not spawn points
Fastest tamable mob
More dmg, health than a lox
Easier breeding
Can piggyback ride each other
NO CREATURE LIMIT
Only cons are that:
Annoying to capture
Lategame
Getting the strongest variant is an absolute nightmare itself
asks have a limit afaik
Where it is stated?
Iirc I have encountered 2 star marksmen and twitchers from random spawns.
They dont currently maybe in the future patches they might fix it
I just have a swarm of 2star bois and gurls defending my outer fortress
just raided a fortress with 120 flametal ore, is that a lot
My breeder continues to pump out eggs EVEN IF THE ROOM IS ALREADY BUSTLING WITH ASKSVINS
on 1.0 resources thats above average
I just let them out once it's starts to get cramped and I can barely move
its not a raised one is it?
I might have to do some testing
Same limit as chickens, 10 within 10 meters
Let me find my fortress base screenshot
I'm new who wants to play with me (xbox)
Here's the fortress base:
#building-screenshots message
Here's the asksvins just jumping a summoned troll outside my fortress:
#screenshots message
it's not on the wiki but I've looked in the spawn data and you can simply test this in-game by increasing the level up rate excesively, the random spawns will only have one star
At that time the cage was full from ground to ceiling with asksvins
Interesting.
does look like only 10/10m
Ah thank goodness thatโs good to know
I should try taming this run ๐
I was thinking of something insanely cool. What if... given that the portal shown in the last Bloodtooth entry is the final boss arena entrance, when you... the player goes through that portal, you find a frozen Hervor Bloodtooth, holding something important, that the player needs to face the final boss?
id love it if hervor clearly explained it on a runestone and people died over and over frustrated not knowing how to beat the boss because they never read any runestones (leo dicaprio meme)
โi have the spear. finally. i can slay the beast and be free of this placeโ shes frozen in place holding a spear in a throwing motion you have to take and throw into a point on the boss to make it vulnerable or similar
Believe me theres more than just 10 in that area lol
its more than 10m so yes
If not every single direction is surrounded with asksvin
it should be same as chickens with the difference that chickens are a "bit" smaller than 2 star asks
The south and west particular has alot just chilling at the loaded area
I love mutated necks
also if they are free roaming they can belong to other zones etc
Everytime the fortress is cramming with asksvins I just let them out so yeah they roam around guarding the areas around the fortress
They roamed quite a ways because I was digging a moat
Which gave them ample time to move away from the fortress
Digging a moat through lava IS
possible but requires PATIENCE and an asksvin
I need Starred Chickens
yeah i second this
Just make a chicken breeder at this point ๐ฅ
a two-star one might peck a greyling to death
My chicken coop is fancier than my house.
They could IF they could attack in the first place
A chicken can kill a man IRL
If they hit any major arteries
they can leapโฆ. uhโฆ. LOOK at the BONES!!!
They do attack. I used to have one that escaped the coop and chased deer all over the village
Sadly the boars werenโt as easy to spook.

Godspeed Magellan!
Never mess with the wild swine
oh magellan... what a majestic fowl
Truly the bravest warrior of us all. She roosts in Valhalla now!
๐
Cats in Valhalla: OH! Odin brought us a tasty bird!
Anyone else play valheim on Xbox or PC? My xbox gt is DapperDamon if anyone is interested
Magellan: I'll show you who's boss!
Also thank you for telling us that Valheim is an open-world survival game ๐
TBH, we need a real rooster who can fend for his chicks. And, yes, that one need to be starred. A two star rooster vs... eh... a greyling?
TBH, I would be pretty scared if a rooster did attack me. ๐
They don't have those spikes for nothing.
No, because people would inevitably start cockfighting rings...
So just no, plz.
Odin, I don't even think that far...
That's why we can't have nice things... ๐
Correct.
You're one spoilsport, Mr. or Ms. or whatever Sevrahn.
Sev is why we canโt have nice things? That was mean of you electric!
Hey! I'm jus' sayin' as I seez it!
Yes, thinking about how people will abuse things and protecting them from being abused is.. spoiling. ๐
Oof that sucks, atleast they fought to the bitter end
Did u know valheim is online? Lol ๐
One angry chicken
You take this much too seriously, @gray sand ๐
She has a tombstone in the village made of a buried stone throne. And a chicken leg on an item stand for I am twisted
LMAO i did not expect the chicken leg
Iโll try to remember and snag a screenshot when I get home
Hey atleast you can recognize its her tombstone easier ๐
I do like the idea.
Oh I have one! #mods-screenshots message
๐
Why is it always dark AND raining in these screenshots!
You hush. I posted in the right channel!!
Aaaaah!
It was for cinematic effect
๐
This would be why I took my meds immediately ๐
๐
Because during clear weather we're in such a rush to get things done that we forget to take screenshotd
death loop in the swamp...
death loop closed
are swamps worse than usual death loop wise
Not really?
Only worse part is perma-wetness.
Semi-unrelated but I know most vikings hate being wet, yet I often intentionally take a dip in bodies of water for the fire resist from wetness (and practically fire-immunity while in the water)
i think swamp is just an increase in general of things that want to hurt you and dont just diddle around throwing rocks
Swamp can throw anything at me I'll KEEP ON COMIN just the wetness is annoying ๐ญ
i like the mountain
I'd generally say Mountains, but idk the frost caves are pretty memorable for me
the music alone
fuck i can hear the mountains music in my ears rn
idk how people dont like the swamp, itโs very high up there in my favorites. so many diverse enemies and vibes, iron makes everything you could want, new light and heavy armors, building with stone, its got everything
I wish it wasn't so easy to drown surtlings. They should have an indestructible rock under their geyser. Would make the terrain a bit more interesting too
I hate the biome, but the progression there is very nice so im kinda neutral towards it
Wont matter because they really like walking into water ๐ญ
Mistlands is just S+ for me
Bite me if you want to :3
whats so bad about it?
My favorite biome
Permanent wetness
Quite dark
W A T E R
and most of the mobs being unreachable once they go under deep water
The mistland enjoyers will expand
so you dont like the water because it hinders your movement, but mistlands is S+ ๐ค๐คจ
what so bad about it?
You get accessed to 2 very useful items
Feather cape and lightfoot mead
And even if you dont have lightfoot mead theres always eikthyr
The rocks and hills in mistlands can be advantageous aswell
I thought the gear in mistlands is rather unique and I really liked it. The magic is a bit OP but other than that top notch
I can see disliking the visibility and movement, not for everyone
What do you dislike about the mobs? I kinda like that there's not archers and such hiding behind trees ready to oneshot me from out of nowhere, but that the mobs are more melee oriented and the one ranged mob is huge and glowing and loud to warn you. Plus the fact the seekers can fly somewhat mitigates some forms of cheese
Fair, I was never big on aesthetics
I WILL DEFEND MISTLANDS TILL THE END OF TIME GGRRR >;C
Im joking obviously...
Its not for everyone and I dont blame them
Especially the mist
im just likeโฆ complaints are visibility and mobility for swamp, yet mistlands awesome. lol HOKAYYYY
Mist is by far the worst for many
I will say, a lot of people get frustrated with the short range on the wisplight, and I can agree with that.
Personally the mist doesn't really bother me so it's not much of an issue, but the fact that I don't even feel inclined to fight Yag before doing mistlands because the wisplight is a minor QoL increase is a bit sad
Yea I mean those are just for your base/outposts to give some visibility
Or for the queen fight
imo if they dont change the cloud balls, remove the mist entirely and make the wisplight reveal things. mushrooms, dwarven writing in dungeons, magical sparkle things leading to things, etc
I like Mistlands.
The progression in mistlands is very rewarding because it nullifies the major issue in the biome and in some other biomes aswell movement, back in swamp you dont really have much option other than flattening the ground and having to deal with a -25% stamina regen, dont get me wrong I like the progression in swamp, a lot of nice things in there, huntsman bow, root harnesk, iron, longship, access to stone buildables, but man the progression in mistlands just catapults it to S tier biome for me
I wish the wisp removed all fog like the ones in plains.
Fog =/= Mist
Same thing
meh. i get mobility progression, thats not as big an issue as the cloud balls. though i have to replace my jump key
No, no they are not.
No, splitting hairs would be "they are spelled differently."
They are not the same because one is a magical phenom while the other is.... weather.
I don't want to sound too harsh, but I feel most of the complaints about Mistlands is from people that want to rush the game.
Why have walls in any game ever? Why not let me walk straight? Making turns is more difficult than it needs to be.
I dont have much trouble with the mist to the point I'm just exploring comfortable without a wisplight and relying on sounds
Mate im not here to argue about silly semantics.
Grow up
its not fog and not programmed like fog. its these cloud balls that go away you cant separate fog into chunks of fog its not a physical thing
And from people that like to see things
You can listen.
just increase the radius of the mistball and all of the probllems are fixedf
*fixed
- Gets proven wrong.
- Diminishes other view by calling it silly.
- Diminishes other person by declaring they are young.
That tracks, yes.
hopping up a cloudy rock wall 90% of the time is not enjoyable gameplay. but swamp is bad because they properly designed a dark spooky swamp. its just crazy to me.
I'm ok with swamps as well.
Mistlands is such a punch in the gut when it comes to progression, because you have to find 3 key items, dvergr extractor, yggdrasil roots, and soft tissue but once you get all those, that satisfying feeling is really good
Especially the feather cape
I love mistlands and ashlands weapons, they feel way more unique than everything from the previous biomes
i dont want to rush the game i want to SEE the game.
I can listen.
And there's like large portions of the Mistlands that are completely mistfree.
at least give me progression so i can see the game
You can listen.
NOT IN EVERY SEED
Well, that's tough luck. I works on mine.
And I doubt it's not like that on most seeds.
so if i think the swamp is too dark i can just shut my eyes and listen for the drauger in front of the crypts
It can be tedious and annoying at time in pre-mistlands especially without feather cape
You may be VERY unlucky on some very few seeds...
Swamps isn't too dark. If you don't go out at night.
Which is generally not a good idea.
Exactly.
On most seeds you can find places like that ๐ but depends on luck if you find the particular mistlands that will have that
Im a big atmosphere type of player
me too! and in mistlands my atmosphere is my nose grinding against a rock wall mashing jump
The thing is about these mistless areas is that for practicality its not good because you may want to base near roots for easier sap access
weeeeeeeeeee. oh but after ive almost beaten the biome i can jump off high things so that makes it better
Mistlands has atmosphere in spades.
Why couldnt there be roots in the mist free areas?
There are.
I am aware ๐
I know you are. ๐
there are spades in mistlands? huh guess i couldnt see them
You don't need to. Listen.
Some mistless areas have roots, some dont
For the spades. ๐
So its a game of luck
I decided to just make a base near the shore to ashland waters because theres like 9 roots nearby ๐ฅบ
Yes, but your message made it really sound like you will not find any in the areas you might want to make base in ๐
Mb :3
Nw
Its definitely a nice area for building and wanting a nice view
you are a bajillion miles from the point. im not saying โwah i cant find dungeonsโ im saying โwhy can i just turn my monitor off and play this zoneโ
i like SEEING
But if you're going for view just make a base at an island, for MAXIMUM atmosphere
YOU are a "gazillion" miles of the point. The POINT is NOT to be able to just rush through.
oh. my. christ. if i went slower, could i SEE????
We've established that... oh... like when Mistlands came out originally.
fuck the mist but i feel its essential
It's the ONE divisive thing about Valheim.
I understand that especially that im a mistlands enjoyer
I mean it IS called mistlands for a reason
Mistlands is there for the atmosphere, for the scare jumps when you get ambushed by seekers, or, even worse, a Gjall.
And progression
That's why the scarce visibility and extreme terrain is a must.
Dont forget about progression the juiciest part of mistlands
the mines are fun too
arite well i gotta go rush through the game by playing with my eyes open i cant handle how dumb this convo is
Mistlands is like when you combine blackforest with its rich resources and diverse creatures with mountains and swamp with their mobility hinderance and visibility 10x
Really, chill. Not everybody is of your opinion, ok?
I don't blame yacko for not liking the mist in mistlands, I've been there myself but slowly I've gotten used to it
- plains
- mistlands
- ashlands
- swamps
- mountains
- BF
- meadows
whats your ranking
mountains and swamps are interchangable imo
My initial problems with the Mistlands was mainly that I got overwhelmed too quickly, because I didn't know how to handle certain mobs. Once that was solved, I no longer had much problems with them any more.
The mist itself is just a normal to me now no longer an annoying hinderance
Besides the queen. I STILL hate her.
why do people hate the queen so much
Remember our queen talk?
i found her boss fight unique and fun
Because I can't block her.
Shes a in your face type of boss
sure she jumpscared me like 2 times but stilll
i played as a mage and it was moderate
And she pressures with ads
hardest of all but still moderate
Not to mention the mist itself
That too, but that is manageable.
Go try melee :))
Mist doesn't bother me.
I promise you it will be more than moderate
yeah i abandon melee when magic enters lmao
- Mountains v Plains
- BF
- Mistlands
- Swamp v Ashlands
- 50 feet of crap
- Meadows
I just want to be able to reliably block her, without being sent into the next biome.
Its absolutely stressful when she decides to PIN YOU AGAINST A WALL
Yes.
But not for me
The problem is, if you can't rely on dodge-rolling to safe you (because you suck at it like me), then the Queen is a horrible fight.
Go mage
Ok, my ranking is:
- Meadows, Mountains.
- Black Forest, Plains.
- Swamps, Mistlands.
- Ashlands.
I don't like Mage. Too squishy. If your shield breaks down, and it WILL the absolute most inopportune moment, you're toast.
Carapace buckler can parry all her attacks, just down stand RIGHT BELOW HER LIKE UNDERNEATH HER CLAWS OR ELSE GET SHREDDED BY HER DOWNWARDS STRIKE
Been there done that ๐
And you need to be the absolute master in parrying.
I'm not. Just like dodge-rolling.
I fight her constantly with melee so no worries there
Parrying is really relatively easy in valheim ๐ค
Im sorry! ๐ญ
And i am bad at games that need fast reactions ๐ even then i am able to parry here quite well
Probably a game that has the most complex parrying mechanic I've heard of is probably mordhaw or something like that
The main problem with all the "good advice" is that you need to be young and have fast reflexes to pull all of that off.
Give ultrakill a try :))
You'll like it... probably

You need to be fast and young to pull off dodge-rolling and parrying.
Ah, seems to be DOOM-like?
But then you can go practically naked.
Very inspired by doom
The queen is not forgiving when it comes to breathing room and ample time for attacks
Yup.
Especially when fighting her melee
Her attacks have quite a fast cooldown
Faster the lower her hp is
That's my main problem with her. I mean, I CAN defeat her. But I will die a few too many times.
And I don't have that problem with any other boss.
Fader is a piece of cake compared to the queen.
Shes the most punishing boss out of all the other ones
Yup.
well, you can always go mage and spend 20 mins slinging fireballs from entrance
Miss your swimg oop sorry bucko enjoy that 100+ dmg
Thats the easy way out
The honorable way is to fight her melee
And then your shield fizzles out... and ded.
No health and and no armor to speak of.
entrance is safe
Unless you're rushed by seekers and your shield fizzles out at that EXACT moment.
you're right by the exit, you can bail out, refresh and nuke them with fulll eitr bar
yeah, it's safe and cowardly. ๐ I didn't install Valheim to play Dark Souls
You need to have VERY good reflexes to pull that off, though.
Mage is just like a rogue in Valheim.
You need to be very quick and have very good reflexes.
Not for me. ๐
magic is just more fun imo
It IS fun, if you can survive playing one. ๐
valheim doesn't have an indepth melee system so i just go for shooting around fireballs
It's in depth enough for me.
Boss in terms of difficulty (From experience)
1 - Queen
2 - Yagluth
3 - Fader
4 - Bonemass
5 - Moder
6 - Elder
7 - Eikthyr
that is...totally not like magic plays out. You don't need reflexes, just situational awareness to run away whenever enemy comes close and just fireball them from medium distance
My boss list
1 - Queen
2 - Fader
3 - Moder
4 - Yagluth
5-6 - nothing
7 - the rest.
The thing is in the context of the Queen boss fight
Well, doesn't alway work out that way-
She can close the distance with her rush attack
And maybe I'm very bad with all that situational stuff. ๐
So a good dodge roll can save you there
eh....when you play it safe, you can stay in the arena entrance that's too low for her to reach you
If you cant Dodge-roll > Parry > Block
For both dodge-roll AND parry to work, you need good reflexes and being able to judge her incoming attacks.
Im not about to sit there and lob fireballs for like half an hour
And I obviously suck at both.
You should be able to block her with a maxed out blackmetal tower shield can you?
I haven't tried that.
I should check
I CAN block her... But the main problem is that she will send you flying into the next biome.
ironically, it's one of faster ways due to high damage uptime
I don't have that problem with any other boss.
She'll be digging away from time to time
I think I will try my next fight with the BM tower shield. See how I fare.
not that often. You'll spend less time going back to her than dodging her attacks
It's funny how we went from how bad the Mistlands are to how bad the queen as a boss is. ๐
๐
Hmm not for me atleast
It is the best way? I'd say yes
Is it fun? No obviously
Stress free? yes
I feel these are the two most contentious (is that a word?) things in Valheim.
Contentious is def. a word, rest assured lol
๐
To be fair not being able to see and movement being hindered is a big deal
That's why.
Some have no problem with either one of them, some do.
I have no problem with the Mist, but I do with the Queen.
Queens be like that
Some feel the other way. Some don't like both.
Im one of those that dont have problem with both
We need more people to like mistlands ๐ฅบ
True.
Its soo beautiful
It is.
I think the important thing is if you like it, then thats all that matters.
True.
Its no longer beautiful once you start getting mauled by giant insects
You'll lose alot of years worryin about pleasin others hahaha
Hehe
I rather fight seekers than lox. ๐
Lox hit soooooo hard.
And they're tanks.
But so fluffy
Yes... I really don't want to kill them!
There are two ways to fight lox. Ranged or black metal atgeir
BM atgeir ftw. It rules the plains.
I rush krom so lox is quite easy for me
Very misunderstood creatures, Lox are. Its the eyes i reckon.
๐
๐
Arbalest is so broken in the early biomes
ngl, I named my Lox Norbert
Yeah just send over an 400 damaging bolt straight towards that unsuspecting lox ๐
Poor lox.
He doesnt have a very good life
I named my Ernie and Bertie.
From experience the arbalest with bone bolt do around like 300 sneak dmg
But he's fed
So quite BIG
sadly, crossbows are in bad place right now, because they come at same biome as magic...we could use plains tier crossbow, weaker than arbalest
That would be cool to have.
But I think bow users will go like... meh.
They're skilled at using the bow, they don't really need the crossbow.
Thing is it'd probably need some tweaking for the crafting materials
Progression wise using iron and root this late is kind of weird
all you'd need is to make sure it uses black metal, and it would be hard gated behind Moder so no rushing for crossbow in earlier biomes
Iunno, Im always a fan for spears over bows in this game.
Krom could use this aswell
true, but at least you can pick up sword skill earlier...
Crossbow level is slower than bow's
yep, that sucks too
They need to add a faster reload buff for crossbow skill
Or atleast allow reloading whilst running but extremely slowly
just make it stop but not interrupt loading
meow
I was gonna say it wouldn't make sense but realized we can just hold the bolt and strings in place
And continue the reload
Anyone know how to dig moats deep enough? I go down enough I just reach water and canโt dig further and then my drakker gets grounded
Seems accurate for the viking lore, Ditches only, no moats.
and lots of spikey sticks
meow
How do cats like their steak cooked?
Once you reach waters thats how far you can go
medium raw
Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrare
You cant dig any further without going into the swimming animation
oh it was a joke, i thought you genuinely asking
So i gotta leave the drakker in the ocean area and just use the longship in the dug out canal
said the bad ending
no I was using the drakker for base aesthetic
Hmm
I dug a wide canal up to my base
You could still kind of fit it
Then dropped the drakker in and it was like NOPE
With enough time and patience
Seems like a job for Josh/Letsgameitout
Thereโs no dev command to drain water in the area is there
Sea level? i dont think so
I hate Drakkar. I hope we won't have to use it to reach DN, because that fat cow is awful when maneuvering through anything more difficult than wide open ocean
Not sea level, just water in the immediate area like inland
Nope. The water level is set at the same height all over the map.
And no way to dig deeper
Sea level, yea.
Not that im aware of
Without mods*
especially without mods.
Yea im not modding, i cheat enough with devcommands
๐ฌ
Land can be terraformed 8 meters up or 8 meters down from its surface.
Meaning you can actually end up below the water level, but eventually you will hit a "hard" surface you won't be able to mine.
Tar draining is a game mechanic
Yes, specific to tar, and that is fine.
They do not need to delay release to completely overhaul all water on the entire map.
No, lol.
๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Oh heeeeeell no. That would destroy your pc ๐ just try to spawn some tar with commands and after few you will feel the performence drop
Spawning TarLiquid in the Ashlands is a hoot though.
I have a 1060 Iโm bare minimum cpu
Not really.
Long story short the drakker isnโt going in the canal
I mean.... They have these (albeit) really sad streams on certain maps but certainly not valid rivers with occasional rapids.
Well, start a petition to postpone the release of this game with about 10 years, so the Devs can rework the entire engine and start the game from scratch.
They had a vision when this game was initially developed and in that vision there was no room for rivers.
I don't want to.
You dont, but others do
Spent 2 hours terraforming for nada
respect all around to eachothers preferences
Imagine is all we can really do ๐
And they are free to make that happen through their own efforts ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Tell that to captain doobie
Eh I wouldn't say it's magics fault. Crossbow is good for fighter playstyles that want some range. Magic doesn't work there because they'd have to give up health or stamina to get some eitr.
Real reason crossbow isn't as popular is because Bow is just brokenly OP. Crossbow is not weak, I'd actually say its very well balanced, bow is just too strong of an alternative
they just RIP'd their quest
@agile vapor I believe in your ability to accomplish what you put your mind to.
nah Iโll just leave in the ocean port, I can leave longships for the canal
Valid and fair.
Also, grausten roofing is buttcheeks
That can be good or bad depending on how much one likes buttcheeks ๐
i don't understand the dark souls dislike
I canโt facepalm emote but you get the idea
ya kinda forces you to design a certain style, i dont particularly like it because i dont build giant cathedrals
๐ค
Why slap face when you can slap buttcheeks?
๐
.. Is that a question?
Its a question mark for sure
but whats the question
I dont like DS
Does it matter?
its just not my schtick
Been a while since I played, did parrying get revamped again? It seems like my bronze sword Lv3 is just as good as a bronze buckler Lv1... so I may forgo making it altogether. Also dodge skill is a thing now? What's it do?
Wasnt telling Kate to zip it, just respecting their preferences while expressing my own.
oh god the worms! the can opened!
Parrying was made free-to-use again. No stamina cost whatsoever.
Dodge skill reduced stamina cost, perfect dodge timing refunds stamina.
Oh wow they made it like before but even better? Nice
Stamina is now a non-issue in combat unless you genuinely try to run out.
Bronze buckler used to parry everything then it got nerfed. Now im parrying trolls with a bronze sword feels kinda wrong but ill take it
Bronze Buckler never got nerfed. It is still the single-largest defensive upgrade in the game.
that shouldnt have changed at all, nothing with block or parry armor
I love how I'm chopping a tree with my beserkir axes, and the chain lightning goes from the tree over to a nearby dvergr
are we talkin digging canals
can we PLEASE change how change lightning works for deep north.
?
i need more neck tails i'm willing to dig some canals
i kind of love the lighting wym?
I love it too, but I hate how it chains to friendly npc's as well
No it doesn't?
Why are you chopping wood with a mystical axe of untold power?
It's been an issue since beta ashlands, and when I pointed it out, it was deemed "intentional behavior" and cast to the side.
You aren't randomly shocking your tamed animals with lightning axes.
Well... if its intentional.
no not tamed animals, dvergr
They aren't friendly.
i read "lighting" ๐ก
tamed animals also get chain lightninged, they just don't take damage.
Neutral =/= Ally
OR it's yet another bug
Why this lightbulb go shocky shocky type shit
No, they are not friendly.
So they are not subjective to friendly-fire immunity.
100% intentional.
Dvergr regard us as mildly interesting stray dogs at best.
hey doobie are your canals deep enough for karves and lankskips
The best kind of lightbulb imo.
It's bad game design at best, diabolically evil at worst.
Neither.
Or the other way around
Should be, I dug til I floated
you know what I mean.
Personal preference detected
The only dverger who interact with you actively exploit you, so no it is not bad game design.
I really donโt
that will be my plan but i'm not sure it'll work
๐ซ
Thereโs always a choice to make when dvergr are nearby. Either take caution not to hit them by accident, or deal with the fallout
It's the same story when seekers got nerfed during mistlands. I thought they were perfect. They got nerfed to the ground, and I did an entire deathless run because the seekers just sort of danced around doing nothing.
Longships work in shallow rivers so it should
They are in a good spot now though.
Drakkers are just stubborn fat asses
How does Haldor exploit you by selling you literal dirt and calling it "Ymir Flesh"? (confirmed by Smiffe if you need source)
Gee, idk that's seems entirely above-board...
Itโs special dirt
Fertilized dirt
ya and he tricks you into crafting frostner
I kinda wish Valheim could do a "Terraria" and make AI changes depending on difficulty, so the super aggressive seeker AI from beta mistlands could be re-used again.
Home Depot sells bags of dirt too ๐คฃ
Because it technically is indeed flesh of the giant Ymir ๐
Imagine, Home depot settin up shop with a bunch of vikings as their main demographic. ๐
admittedly sometimes some dirt is actually valuable ๐ฑ
Because mythologically speaking his flesh became earth so yes he is dirt
You can ask Smiffe directly and he can tell you, as he's said multiple times now, the dverger are not our friends.
In general they don't even care about the fact we are there. Haldor and Hildr exploit you for what they can get from you.
Do we have orange banners? I just had a wonderful, terrible idea
So back to point: The fact they are not protected from "friendly" fire is intentional because they are not friendlies.
I just command spawn 999 coins at a time, HOW THEM COUNTERFEIT COINS TASTE FUCCKRR
upload the results to YT and ill subscribe
who is the black forest dwarf...?
Haldor.
Yes we do ๐
oh no ๐จ ๐ซ
actually... are you hiring? ๐
You can do it! We can help!
You're going to make the Lawn and Garden section aren't you... ๐
Iโm building a Walmart next
With my MODS!
๐คข
Actually I was thinking of the lumber section. Stacks upon stacks of wood
Wulmart
Why the Home Depot music slap tho
Valmart* ๐
inb4 another mention of dprk
srysrysry... *Ullrmart
(Because I always changed it to the good station when I opened)
Why Rain h8 me so much ๐ญ
No the advertising music
cause you a big ray of sunshine! ๐
Valmart and Hearth&Home Depot xD
I still havenโt spotted Odin
really? Caught him scoping me out two or three times.. Made me uncomfortable
he spotted YOU....
BoarlyWorely - shop the pig ๐
I have passive enemies so I think thatโs why I donโt see leviathans, snakes or other stuff
Always has been!
i'm so aware you would not believe
@merry pebble I am trying here.
Uplifting message incoming.
probly also why odin hasnt honored you with his presence
If you ever feel useless or down.... remember the Linen cape exists.
Leviathans are not technically creatures ๐ so that one is just bad luck
As an agnostic, no i dont ๐ hahaha
Heโs considered enemy?
Less moats, more plunderin'! lol
Can it be hung on an item rack?
no i think hes just checking on his great warrors' progress
unfortunately moats almost serve goals of plunder
Bro bro bro
Doesn't equate usefulness
I did a funny yesterday
not wrong at all. But game sea levels are unwilling to accommodate protection of our plunder
I mean theyโve definitely got eyes if you dive under them! Itโs scary AF
Decoration is useful.
Just look at Frostner.
I accidentally launched my Jotun axe with the catapult and lost it
nice
Jump in and go after it
It went into the forest and I couldnโt find it
Wait for nightfall and look for sparkles
You are Bane saying "follow him" before shoving a guy down a pipe.
I was looking for sparkles
Oh they are supposed to be creatures lore-wise, but from games perspective they are ore deposits so they are not affected by passive enemies modifier ๐
Gotcha
I even launched myself and it wasnโt there
nature's goal is irrelevant to our greed. we do whatever we can get away with ๐
i'm gonna dig canals
Dentists' favorite activity.
Also htf I can launch an axe but not a ooz BOMB
Can you build on kraken?
This game has krakens?
^
Like those floating leviathans?
Nature gonna cordycep us up before we know it.
tried, no.
and i dont blame it
Wait those things with the sea urchins on it are leviathans?
as a gnostic
*her
Yea leviathan , theres one right between a slightly too wide river gap... would be nice to build on but alas
I'm sure there's a #mods-discussion for ways to build on them.
If modders can make the first subnautica and skyrim MP - they can and will eventually do everything.
Man, the difference between a raft and a karve is stark
you might be able to place moveable structures on them but not buildings or furnishings
Everything except stop ๐
it moves up and down in the waves. pretty sure that goes against some sort of very very core element of building in valheim
Rafts are so worthless, I refuse to make em. Karve is the best boat cause it turns on a dime
if they stop they're no longer doing everything
I built a workbench on a stick, fuck physics
