Archers have a very predictable pattern. You can kill them by anticipating that pattern and sidestepping their arrows, and then filling them with your own arrows. They don't sidestep, ironically. 😉

It works best from some distance.

I think you’re fine to start up a world- just don’t get too far north yet, or the new content won’t generate when it comes out.

As long as your deep north biome stays untouched, it will effectively update once the content comes out.

It is best to build a portal, etc... safely outside of your first swamp, or swamps, until you get used to dealing with the swamps.

Landing directly in the swamps from a boat has been the biggest reason for me helping rescue people over the years here.

Finding crypts has become much harder since the newer biomes were added. I used to find crypts pretty easily in most swamps. Now I can go through entire decent sized swamps, and find none, or maybe one. Like a swamp I went into yesterday. Nice and big, several surtling spawners even, one crypt.

I prefer anklet myself. Relying on trinket to heal is not a good thing. Most of the time, I get hit because stamina ran out, and you'll definitely spend a lot ofstamina to trigger the trinket, so it's always beneficial

You really have to have dodge-roll down pat. No mistakes. If you mistime it, like I'm wont to, you're more or less dead. Well, maybe not, but it's brutal.

i was forces to fight a 2 star solider insect in around my base that was annoying

Just keep exploring, sometimes that initial bad luck turns into crazy luck at some point in your run. There can be crazy swings in luck, next infested mine could have 5-6 black cores like one of mine did. I had the 15 cores needed but still had to find 2 more mines to get the last 2 fragments for the Sealbreaker.

It is not unusual to use your first 5 Black Cores to get you your Eitr and first crafted items that you want and while your Eitr is processing that is when you continue to explore and find more mines. If your current items are good enough to survive the mines and Mistlands then you will be fine

she has 2.5k more hp than yagluth, who has 2.5k more hp than moder, pretty exactly tuned for being damaged. use feather cape to jump to the bottom if you need a quick break, the devs also provide lots of aoe options for summons like fireball and bile bomb

Yeah, I found her attacks to be quite easy to dodge as well, the movements are really telegraphed. Once you figure out a strategy to wipe the adds, it's kinda smooth sailing.

my only death vs her was when i missed the dodge timing of her big bite cuz it’s such a long move. but i had already taken a hit or two and couldve paused the fight, i barely died to the extra poison of the bite. i probably lived with poison resist lol.

magic makes her a cakewalk. Run up the stairs while spamming fireballs, float back down to regen eitr, repeat until death. You never even need to get into melee range.

Though before they nerfed Bonemass power you didn't even need to block or dodge, you could just zerg her down in under 5 minutes with 2hp foods and upgraded carapace armor

I killed the Queen with melee for half the fight then switched to magic for the other half when I realized melee had some issues, but no regrets. Took 30 mins to down her. Been hanging out just fine in the Ashlands with both melee and magic but I do prefer magic

They're not overly difficult to kill with a fire staff, but it takes up precious Eitr and the queen like to sneak up on you

Then on the way back from the nearest portal, he makes a beeline straight for his corpse neglecting to notice the uncleared fuling village in between. He pulled a leroy jenkins on the whole group.

I've never done permadeath. I just try to not die for as long as possible. Like my last run I was almost to the final boss when I had my first death. I'm not going to throw all those hours away just because I finally died. So I look at the rest as practice for my next try.

i did core keeper, terraria, diablo, valheim and deus ex HE permadeaths

around 100 replays on deus ex, got so good that i was able to take all the enemies for max xp, collect every item and not shoot a single bullet (except for bosses). The worst run was when i faced a final boss (the moment when you want to waste all your combat rifle bullets). I threw an attachable-grenade (mine template) to the final boss. The boss died, and so did I 😄 😄 best experience ever

I have been working on learning how to speedrun to elder, efficiently.

I am on run 6 or so.
Its amazing going from the casual mindset that lets you stand in front of bear, trolls, and skelly attacks. Knowing you wont die from the next hit.

To learning to avoid every hit. From all mobs.

Finding bears and trolls.
Making a bed nearby.
Dodging repeatedly until deatv. Trying different armors/ tiers of armor. To learn what abilities do how much damage. What can be parried or blocked with different items.

Just stopping by to share how the game can offer new experiences unexpectedly.

Huh. I guess that's a perspective I can sort of understand people coming from. I just know for myself I would have missed out on SO much quality of life stuff. Like building my first house I was chopping all the peices I didn't want with an axe until I was told that I can use the hammer and scroll wheel to destroy stuff I build 😂 Maybe I'm just not smart, but I would not have been able to enjoy the game or get very far without the players I had to help me or the million questions I have Googled. I just don't know how I would figure out how things work just by exploring, I would not think to press or use buttons that do new stuff.

I actually learned from a friend just last week you can block with almost all tools or weapons 😂 I died a lot bc I had no idea you could block without a shield. And in turn I showed my friend with hundreds of hours that you can axe straight down lol. If my lack of intuitiveness is quite shocking, bear in mind Valheim is the first and most advanced game I have ever played. I have never done anything other then steam games like REPO or Peak before now

not really, they miss a lot. You can just find a spot where hares tend to run through and throw down some sharp spikes or pufferfish there
Do that around your sap & mistland crops farm and you shouldn't have any trouble keeping yourself supplied

Thats the kind of area I like to put down the puffer fish. I use the traps and spikes in more open areas, like near towers, in valleys they like to run through, etc... Set up a few such areas and you usually end up with plenty of Hare mats.
