ya, it was like wtf how do i do this?? i was just out of stamina and things werent taking damage. this was before the insane stamina changes, so maybe it’s possible albeit still terrible these days
came back next run with sword and board and had zero deaths it felt too easy
i can't parry+1.2.3. only enough time for 2 hits after a parry.
but man with atgier idk how many times i died it was a preposterous amount of deaths.
theres just enough time for a parry+secondary attack, if you don't waste an instant.
yeah I like to secondary with frostnir after parry there
thats why i use krom, you can parry thrust in time to crit
same for morgens, parry thrust on repeat like 4 times and its dead.
i've been fighting them with the mistland daggers 😛
its weird but it works. i can parry and counter with secondary
and thrust at a charging asksvin to stagger and almost kill it, imo most solid landing weapon it deals with all really well
dual daggers can parry things in ashlands??
yep !
on normal mode*
but not starred monsters(charred warrior, morgen, askvins)
well.... ican parry some of those starred too, but i get staggered
how is blood magic now? a lot of the info online was from a few years back. skells fun?
huh, x4 parry bonus, 96 base parry thats not bad.
be fun to try it with evasion mantle then u could parry starred
its great, until you miss the parry : P
i just switch to buckler+frostner anyway. its easier to keep them away from me
maybe next run will be a dagger bro, i used to be daggers a lot when plains was last biome but never tried skol hati
knifes are never a bad option
do you know if skol and hati’s secondary is silent like the 1 handers?
it used to be kind of bad in the mountains because of the slopes, but the combat patch solved it
i think it is. it seems to be the exact same thing
i've been 1shotting askvins with it : 3
I like the skol and hati but on very hard I use the blackmetal knife for mistlands instead
I must have the shield
i can't imagine vhard. even on hard, i don't use them. i prefer having a shield.
I am pretty sure you could parry most things with them on hard provided you have a decent block level and really high health
It takes so little stamina to kill things with a knife
the min/maxer in me loves the knives because of it. the dps and the stamina cost is really good. probably the best in the game.
the skoll and hati are a bit less stamina efficient though* i could argue that black metal knife is best
Ashlands is so low, its sad. I wish it had more elevations that wasn't fragile rocks that survived just long enough for me to perch on them
i will reach boiling water right away, won't i?
I'm really hoping Deep North finds a way to balance it. Clearly the challenge level needs to go up, but I hope there are ways to find the peacefulness that comes with a snowy northern winter with deep drifts where everything seems to just still for awhile.
it does have elevation change and you can dig max depths on hills and such, but nothing that feels like a mountain or a cliff, much more flat than meadow even
I dig pits and shove 2* skeles into them
i tried to parry one of those :_) (with a carapace buckler)
even with 3 hp food, it almost killed me.
yeah, I don't block them into the pits, I knock them back into them with the weapon
evasion mantle ftw if you do the flame sword quest, they’ll basically be 1 star mobs if you dont blow your parry
that was my fav trinket on my hardmode run.
on this one, i'm still using the stamina regen...
i just do the secondary frostner attack on them to keep them away, until they die..
I hate those 2* skelles, my normal fight mode allows me to get hit, either block or parry but with them.... it's nearly one hit death.
they scare me xD
in theory, i know how to deal with them, but it gets me nervous and its always a near death experience xD
its the same with the deathsquitos. when i know i have the hp and the armor to not get killed in 1 hit, i have no issue killing them before they get me. but when i know that if i miss, i die.... i tend to miss a lot more
anybody wanna play just hit me up
I found high exposure to high risk situation, getting 1 hit in hardcore hundreds of time if you miss a parry or dodge helps in the long run to stay calm in those situations
I definitely don't stay calm
My moder spawn is in the middle of an island that appears to be all plains lol. Any advice on how to approach?
run fast?
or find a different moder.
The other one I found is on an island that looks like it is all mist lands lol
plains is next after mountain right? so you should be able to carefully handle plains, just don't take on any goblin villages
slowly. just watch for skeetos and pick them off. dodge INTO them if you must. sneak by everything else. avoid tar pits at all costs.
Thanks for the tips friends! This newb appreciates it
You can parry all bosses
Wear root harnesk (swamp light armor chest piece), activate eikthyr, run for it
Root harnsk makes deathsquitos trivial.
probly meant stagger. and hey now that it costs no stamina its better than dodge rolling! XD
actually.. idk if he did, he is tower shield man after all
How can i give myself admin permission on my own paid server. Im getting charred marksman in the meadows. Im only at the swamp i need to reset somethings.
that means the map has killed Fader, devcommands to reset boss kill flags requires single player world or server devcommands mod #mods-discussion
i like a challenge, but starting the game with charred marksmen in the meadow, that sounds brutal.
Starting with it yea
If you’re in swamp progression I feel like you could deal with them? Still tough compared to regular meadows but marksmen aren’t the worst
i like the idea of that second attack being a swarm of arrows, but it rarely hits. that makes those marksmen pretty easy compared to the rest of the baddies in ashlands, in my opinion.
Yeah.
I feel like the arrow swarm theoretically is a cool bubble deterrance. Because bubble doesn't get benefit from armor and resistances, and has a bigger hitbox so a swarm of arrows should take it out quick
But it still doesn't
DAM ruto hurts.... keeps 1 shoting me
Yep. Don't try to parry him.
ty i found a chess though good ol cross bow
i love how getting iron gives you 600 recipes all at once
and ull never afford all of them
Yeah, I know.
You can put them on an item stand stuck on the wall beside though.
i also wish i could display sap, it has such a nice model
can't put it on a item stand?
nope, not horizontal nor vertical
what about a serving platter? assume not since its not consumable
didn't work either
Worlds constantly corrupt and characters get rolled back often. When will this nonsense be fixed
Haven't experienced this once in 5 years of consistent playtime.
Me neither
Though it does sound like it happens to quite a few people. Sounds like more than just a very rare hiccup or byproduct of messing with files
And man does it sound bad to lose your save
Are you playing with mods perhaps?
Isn't it fun to just go on a walk for blueberries?
I find all the time conusming things in valheim rather enjoyable and rewording actually
Ever gone sailing irl? That's par for the course
Is it possible to parry a 1 star fuling brute?
With what progression gear?
Black metal shield
You should be able to parry it with plains diet of HHS with full maxed out padded armor
time to sail in a random direction so i can find a swamp
So, basically it's our fault that we chose the days with bad wind 😂😅
Essentially, but krilloid gave us the schedule. So we can avoid it.
You can parry any blockable attack
It won’t stagger the boss but you’ll still get increased block armor and no stamina cost
The perfect tree cascade, does this counting as winning Valheim.
I decided to drop my buckler and made Krom. After upgrading it, will see how it fares in Ashlands
So, I am preparing my very first journey to Ashlands. I'd like to go in as blind as possible but still be somewhat prepared. I don't want to regret not bringing something with me that can't be teleported. But I also don't want to bring too much from my main base. Someone suggested iron for the stonecutter. But what about copper, bronze and silver (and maybe even tin)? Does it make sense to make a base in AL?
Or at least a mini base with some crafting stations where I can process and craft locally in AL.
Also, in regard to what weapons are viable in AL, I got some mixed replies. Someone said that Himminnafl is good for the stagger effect (I use atgeir a lot, normally). Other prased the swords like Mistwalker (never used one).
I have fully upgraded Spinesnap bow, Demolisher and Frostner. And I just crafted Himminnafl.
Any tips are welcome - but not too spoilery, please.
The spinesnap will be your best friend at first, if you use it effectively and meticulously to take out everything before they see you
My best tip to ensure you don't need to sail back on another drakkar is just to drop multiple portals as soon as possible
The mistlands buckler is stupid broken
But krom is really nice for high single target damage
new arab players ??
if you’re used to frostner and have skill in clubs it can be a safe but slow way to kill things, it’ll be fine. krom depends on some knowledge of enemies and parrying or anticipating what they do so maybe frostner is best first landing. non-spoily combat tips would be take your time, running usually makes the situation worse. it’s very hard to escape a fight depending on what you’re fighting and you’ll probly just pull more things. sometimes the best thing to do is stand your ground and dodge around and let things kill each other because most mobs can damage other mobs.
Silver sword will do more damage than mistwalker against some enemies for lower stamina cost
If you made one previously, bring it
You can try making a post on #1024264966712340510 to find someone. Good luck!
i literally never created a sword in all of my 500+ hours played 😄
Mistwalker. This is the way in Ashlands. Silversword is good, but useless against living opponents like the Asksvin. Frostner doesn't cut it compared to Mistwalker. Mistwalker outclasses Frostner by far.
With Mistwalker you really can play all the way through Ashlands.
Anything that pierces (atgeir, spear) is more or less useless in Ashlands, as you come up against skellies most of the time, who don't care about being poked. I found that out the hard way, when I tried Himminafl on them. Again, Mistwalker is the way.
Do Walls provide just as much stability as beams would, meaning I can destroy beams when I build a wall in that place?
Yeah, i saw the other day somewhere that normal wood walls and beams povide the same stability
charred are basically cannon fodder who die in 2 hits of basically any non-piercing weapon so basing your weapon choice on them (instead of tougher enemies like morgen, asksvin or valks) seems a little strange.
Himminafl isn't all that useful, true, but i'd never leave my outpost without my crossbow and iolite splitnir for dealing with valks and morgen
I am 64 yrs old. I would love to play with some one that is on my level. I am taking baby steps forward. I am in the bronze age. Is there any one that is like me, that is fairly simple, and would like to play. I am in NW Vermont.
Welcome! You might find some folks in #1024264966712340510
agree with all of this. i hated himminafl so much in ashlands. i told them mistwalker but if he never even made a sword and had max frostner and some club skill, eh, maybe they even out for damage
Pierce is so good in ashlands though (from a bow) it's the best choice to take out askvins easily before they can get close to you or even move, the best way by far to kill valkyrie, the sneak bonus with good arrows will take out charred twitcher and archers in 1 hit. Frost arrows are extremely good at taking out the bonemaws and vultures
For sneak attacks I'd prefer a crossbow
Yeah I don't exclusively sneak attack weak enemies. More typically I sneak attack the strong ones
I gave the evasion mantle a good shot in vh ashlands and I don't like it. It doesn't really allow me to parry anything more than I can with triple health. I don't even see much of a difference if I fight morgens with it active or not. In both case I can still parry and it fills my stagger bar about halfway. I was not able to parry slaps from 1 star morgen with it active, but I can parry the jump with it or not, the only attack was the leap forward that I could parry with it active. I went back to the iron brooch
I mean carapace buckler is pretty goated so you don't really need evasion mantle
But it can still be nice. Especially if you wanna do back-to-back parries against warriors or whatnot
I'm a fan of carrying two trinkets though. One long duration that I proc first, then swap to another
Yeah I did that for a couple hours but was not really able to activate them both, I am taking my time and not picking fights with too many enemies
Do you carry both crossbow and bow with both type or ammo? If not even if the initial hit do more damage, the fact that the bow can shoot so much faster make it so the bow overtake the crossbow's damage very fast. The only argument for the crossbow I guess is that it is more ressource efficient
Nah I haven't used a bow in years
Too OP for my taste
Unless you're 100 in bows, they're not really that OP, IMHO. 😉
lvl 50 Bow is OP already in my eyes
lvl 50 bow is something like a 3x dps increase
pretty nuts, plus range in general is busted
I remember someone saying you hit the max bow draw speed at 70-80
I rarely get anything over 40 in skills.
And I'm beyond the point where I die a lot.
crossbow forever at 20+
The highest I got, was I think... somewhat over 50 in swords.
Bows are in their 20s because I use them just where I need them. Sniping, drakes, etc.
I usually attack first, with sword and shield and try to stun them directly.
every level reduces the draw time
And I don't dodge, because... well, I'm also 64 of age. 😉
And I'm way too slow for that.
Doesn't it get locked at a certain rate at high level due to animation speed limitations?
i level bow to however many serpents attacked my boat XD. hot take: bow skill should only increase damage
yes but reaching full charge faster will reduce stamina cost because it slows at full charge
If you want to increase your bow level, I recommend just chopping a lot of wood, making a ton of wood arrow, a twig, a crude bow, parry the twig, shoot 4 arrow really fast and repeat
why parry the twig? to level block skill too?
to fit more arrows inbetween attacks
and it also level block with no stamina cost, not that the crude bow cost stamina at all
also you dont get knockback then have chances to miss the twig, just trust
I'm not much of a min-maxer. I just play what I like and works best for me. And that is sword and board.
Bows when I need them.
Actively training skills feels yucky to me
Exactly.
I'd rather go find some worthy opponents and earn my skills in my bloodthirsty quest for loot
I do like knives and daggers. I usually have a fairly high skill with those as well.
Yeah faster attack speed definitely levels faster
Spears level insanely fast. Once had those at lvl 100 by Plains
For hardcore whilst on harder difficulty, you want to reduce your chance of death significantly so raising such an important skill that will certainly reduce your chance of death is a great idea
A great idea for surviving yeah
But imo it's not fun, and makes the game too easy
id rather play normal or hard and not have to afk grind skills to make vh playable
especially if the playable is just bow combat
I don't abuse bow at all
then why afk grind it?
which part is afk to you? chopping wood or parrying the twig and shooting arrows?
I just wanted to share the best way to level the skill which the discussion was about
My list of challenges / banned things to make my playthrough more difficult and fun I think has more than 20 points
Initially I thought it would be hard to keep track of but honestly it’s pretty intuitive when most of it is just “don’t cheese”
spamming attacks against a non-enemy who cant hurt you i guess is the afk part. technically you might be at the keyboard but.
food is op
TWIG can hurt you and will
Feasts really made my day.
ok if we’re into technicalities and semantics that’s my cue
Sorry for correcting things that were just absolutely wrong
Chill, guys.
we chill
It's just a game.
why u haf to be mad?
I usually just eat two feasts and either a health food or whatever the situation calls for.
I usually run FSS
FFH mostly.
it's the only enemy to directly deal pure damage, so you're not even safe with a staff of protection
I like something substantial between me and my enemy, so that's a shield and my belly.
HHF here
wouldn't hhs be stronger?
or are you just saving materials
Not if you like stamina
Feasts are simple to make and have lots of health AND stamina. Enough for most of my activities.
Even fighting Vader I used feasts.
Potions are the important part in fighting Vader.
You need to jump high and run fast.
And you need fire protection.
Do you need fire protection? It's been a while since I fought him but in my memory his fire attacks pretty much delete you whether you have resist or not
That may have been on Hard tho
The resist can still be enough to save you
just a question is it normal finding 3 leviathans next to eachother like 3m apart?
Kinda rare although not unheard of
I hate having to steal from the Dvergr 🙄
i actually feel this so hard! i just feel so mean, wish i could barter with them for extractors
Yeah I guess the devs thought it'd be too easy
I guess I'mma just do the exploit and pretend I bartered for it...
I see a mod for it though
There’s a reason Hugin tells you that you’re going to eventually tick them off.
Just break the crate and run
Yeah lol
Did that the first time
Idk...
Makes sense that we should be able to buy it I think
#valheim-help message its ok to kill necks but not dverger?
Lol
correct
Necks are annoying aggressive little buggers
The immortal philosopher poets of the wu-tang clan have instructed future generations to protect ya necks.
Good evening, I have a quick question that may have already been asked by others... Have the developers abandoned the game? The next area has been pending for so long.
Does anyone have an answer?
Uhm... no. That's the answer.
What do you mean? Why has nothing been happening for many months now? Is there an internal problem?
Please see the News tab to answer your question.
There was a recent update. There have been updates happening over the past months. The game is anything but dead.
i've been seeing emotes, new hairstyles, and minor additions since the fire biome update a long time ago, and I'm wondering what's going on.
Well, that's updates.
For some people a game is dead if the devs haven't updated a news page or brought out a hotfix or a patch each week.........
I'm talking about real content updates, things that advance the story, like the zones, previous weapons, bosses, which are over a year old
IronGate is known for taking their time. Which IMHO is not a bad thing.
I don't need any rushed content full of bugs.
Blizzard cough
I've been reading them since the last Biom came out, which was a very, very long time ago. I was wondering why it was taking so long... Thank you for your answers.
As said: "They are working at it."
The game is still in Early Access, devs are still putting out content, and fixing bugs 🙂
Have you tried making a game?
Something like that.
Oh no the devs care about making a quality product! I hate that!
Be patient. All good things will come in time.
Exactly 🙂
yeah bees will be happy
Hehe.
Valheim, to me, is the journey, the exploration, the building. Smacking bosses around is less then 1% of the content.
I don't blame the developers; I was just wondering why the game had barely progressed after so long.
I play quite a few other survival games of the same genre that get major updates roughly every six months, so I was wondering, given the initial announcements of the snow biome in mid-2024 for the final biome. I understand it's not easy, but it's true that it's taking a very, very long time, and judging by the reviews of the game, I'm not the only one wondering what's going on.
Thanks again for your replies, have a good evening.
And I can always take a break and play something else if I'm bored.
I understand. No problem. Again, I rather wait and get quality content than rushed, bugged content.
Two years is not a very long time. Maybe for young people, but I blink and it’s been two years these days
Tru... oh soooo true.
I mean, it's not like we're getting charged for that content. Valheim is pretty cheap to begin with, and IronGate has never ever charged someone for updates, DLCs and shit like that.
Which I highly appreciate.
We all do
you cant make everyone happy, but you CAN make all the bees happy.
exactly
True words.
For a team of 8, they work quite fast in my opinion.
It's... ok.
team of 16 i think
Again, usually their updates are pretty bug-free.
And that's what I appreciate most.
16 at Iron Gate, 8 work on Valheim.
ohh..
If there's a bug, it usually gets fixed quickly.
right
Compared to teams of 100+ at AAA companies making slop is crazy.
What I appreciate most is that they don't work their people to death, which is so common in this industry.
coughing blood Blizzard coughgargledie
I've sadly been a Blizzard pawn since I was a child... 20 years of wow
I can't help it, but I did skirt my 3rd play through of TBC lol
😄
Dragonflight was the last good expansion. Shadowlands before that was barely mediocre.
But enough off-topic.
You're right, we love Valheim and pet the bees.
phehe, I was going to place portal by the big Altar thingy (with boss trophies and power choice)
and then I heard loud screech
and saw the serpent
and some greyling was running around...
so I aligned myself
and kicked him into the serpent
he liked my gift
sometimes, I am really disappointed in how short spear's reach is
who whna play
how do you place the friggin Spice Rack?
ive found it likes to hang from things like an overhead beam or something
ye just figured it out. gotta be from smth that would provide a lock point like beams.
like aim for the bottom of a beam or wall
If you want a long reach melee weapon, try a polearm
I want spear to be at leas somewhat longer then axe and sword
Best place to build our main base? Newbie here just defeated the first boss eikthyr
It's design came early in development, and is more of a universal grip style so it can be utilized with a shield, without requiring additional animations.
in alpha versions spears were called 'throwing spears' and could only throw before secondary attacks were added
i did my first base in meadows close to water, wood source and the boss altars
but later in game i think it is best to switch to new base somewhere else as you progress
Yeah, a coastal meadows base with a large open space is ideal, anything else isn't a huge concern as travel becomes much less of a problem.
Thanks man. This game is really fun, it makes me forget everything.
And i am happy that new people enjoy the game
Is there any usecase for Troll Skin after you maxed the armor?
"Best" is Subjecthive, of course, but many players prefer a main base at the border of Plains and Mistlands so they would be able to grow all crops.
Personally I prefer an island, as it's easier to defend against some events, plus you got access to water.
But eventually, the "best" base is where you feel it's fulfilling all your demands.
Yup, charcoal production in the obliterator.
lol doesn't sound that efficient 😄
there’s a swamp tier spear that uses it
anyone wanna start a new world wihgtr me? im pretty new tho
I'm wondering why I could upgrade my troll pants to 4 star, while I can't do that with the other pieces.
Someone in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 might.
You can make horn of celebration with troll hide
you can incinerate it for coal in the obliterator
i really like the blue color, i wish we COULD use it for some kinda rugs/hangings, decorative objects in general
and I REALLY really like exterminating every troll on sight with extreme prejudice--deeply ingrained first few hundred hours trauma of their bullying
There's blue jute if you like blue
that's ALSO pretty, and MAYBE the part of reasoning why devs might think troll pieces would be redundant--I'd argue it wouldn't HAVE to be, b/c different shapes are possible, and jute looks kind alike it has a "fabric" texture vs a "leather" texture
I can't tell you how much stuff I accidentally smashed in my base when pressing LMB ment for smth else than attack.
which stat on the shield determines if you can withstand a parry or get also knocked back?
since Force pretty much stays the same, it's gotta be the simple Block armour, right?
block armor depends on skills and is what gets multiplied by the parry bonus
I mean it says "Block Armor" on the item itself?
or is that my skill projected on the tooltip?
It's like weapons where the damage it tells you is the max damage but the actual damage range you can do with your skill level will be in yellow next to it
theres a pinned spreadsheet in this channel called “blocking breakpoints” that explains mechanics and tells you if you can block every mob with every shield/weapon
but in a nutshell block armor and max hp is what helps block and parry
btw can you search pinned messages only?
u can search normal messages too or wym?
I'm still not a fan at all of like food buffs deteriorating over time.
I recommend eating food again as soon as it blinks and allows you to eat again
thing is most plantable crops or drops from killing are no issue at all. but venturing out for like berries and mushrooms gets old.
Have you tried out the feasts? They’re super efficient and last a long time
It's intended to encourage exploring that some ressources are only found whilst exploring
I looked at them and thought, they are more of a grp buff thing and less efficient for just one dude?
I'd say it's the opposite of exploring. you mark your spots and grass them again.
That's certainly an option but I think it's better to just know which ingredients you need or will need and just keep grabbing them as you explore
Nah, they’re super efficient and great for single player! A feast has 10 uses, and at 50 minutes per use, they’re pretty solid. Or ~30 minutes a use if you refresh your food when you’re able to
oh 10 uses? That sounds great.
all of this stuff wasn't in the game last time I played.
Yeah, it’s a newer thing. The catch is that they’re placeable objects.
oh it's aoe?
I just mark locations for berries and mushrooms until they make a full stack, then make that run every few game days. Pretty soon I have 10 stacks. Along the way I kill boar, deer and necks, or kill greydwarves and skeletons, or then I am killing leeches and draugr, all for mats I need more of for a substantial part of the time I am taking for the play through. I mean, this is a survival style game, not a farming game. A huge part of surviving is having food to eat, and in this game, its critical to being able to fight everything that wants to kill you.
No, not AoE, more like a consumable that’s placed in the world than something you keep in your inventory.
So for example, the whole boar is placed (probably in your base) and when you need to refresh your food you need to return to it.
I see. Never seen such a concept.
I would massively recommend a portal chain farm for foraged goods, running between large patches instantly is such a good feeling, and just have the end of the portal chain spit you out back at home
I was worried that it's like a banner which would have been nothing for me.
Buy the serving tray and spices and try them
do they add like an effect? Thought this Prep Table alone does the trick?
One is the only way to place down feasts or food item as decoration, the spices are ingredients needed for all the feasts
i wish they had a little unique effect on top
I really didn't engage at all with the bounties, since they were soooo far out of my way and sailing around really isn't my kind of thing.
I like exploring by foot tho, but just sailing really bores me.
The patches of berries, mushrooms, and thistle are usually so close to each other I never feel its worth the time and effort to set up such a network. I just run to them, fighting and killing what I need to along the way.
Totally fair, I usually set up a vast network for every single foraged item, but I'm also always setting up portal hubs. 😅
yeah the only 'portal chains' I've found 'worth it' are surtling geysers and infested mines
IF you don't no map (or if you do, and are willing to take notes 'in game' e.g. signs or out like a little notepad) you can literally halve your portals, obviate the need for a hub at all, if you simply DON'T connect portals "by default" instead marking the portal on the map with its code
bonus, you can always connect instantly anywhere to any already existing portal
I'll only typically connect the very rare patches of 10-15+ spawns of foraged goods.
e.g. you leave a portal somewhere named "1" (or whatever)--whenever you wanna come back, drop a portal at your feet and type "1" in
This cuts down on how long of the chain I'll need, and keeps me on the lookout while exploring.
I might consider it for blueberries which you need the whole game but usually isn't an issue as I just know I'll need them for the whole game and I keep grabbing them
Blueberries are needed the whole game? 🤔
Ratatoskr?
Yeah ratatosk
Noice, fair enough. Great mead
I do use that mead a lot. But the full wood chest I had by the time I stopped needing them for food, is still over half full.
Oh gosh I could never, I keep a black metal chest for each material totally full. I wish I were less of a hoarder. 👀
"I wish I were less of a hoarder. " well that longship sailed with the bird dropping you in Valheim methinks
where does the game save your worlds?
do wild boars fear fire?
@haughty geode yes
i noticed a wooden fighting arena in the meadows today while exporing, when did those get added?
I just found a muddy scrap pile inside the swamp, but instead of finding one in a crypt, I found it outside a crypt
Is this a new update or is it a bug?
I really don't get it. When I'm in my "worlds_local" folder it doesn't show me like the .fwl file like for all the other maps in the "worlds" folder
for those i can see the .db and the .fwl
just not for the one in "worlds_local"
Neither, those have always been there, you can locate them with the Wishbone.
Scrap piles can be found outside the crypts underground.
anyone wanting to link in a custom world? no building cost and max resource drop?
I really dislike how bees happen to occasionally want more space despite nothing changing around them. nothing. not even the random branch poping back
I'm like 99% sure it's solely a matter of "how fast the hive refills" because as LONG as they're in the right BIOME IME they seem to ALWAYS refill back up to the full 4 no matter what
(and usually, by the time i'm ever checking them again, they're back to 4), so i've stopped worrying about the beehive spacing requirements more or less entirely TBH
the fact they removed aoe damage to own factions, like Trolls to Greylings, is just beyond stupid tbh.
you will like the ashlands
Oh you wanted to cheese enemies it seems.
it's just gameplay and immersion wise BS, when like a bear or troll smashes everything around them and nothing happens to the guys "of the same faction"
that's just a dumb parameter to go by
I've never experienced this, beehives check their radius like any other object, but their needs are different. https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Cover
Not a fan of having friendly fire turned off too I assume
And yet, really common in video games, because developers typically want you to fight the enemies.
one of the best things about sandboxes are exactly these kind of interactions.
we are not talking about protecting story npcs
Watching enemies fight eachother?
I hate that when I throw fireballs at enemies whilst the melee guy is tanking them like a badass that he doesn't die too, it just take away the immersion
to unlock Hildir's Inventory, do you have to kill the bosses from the first trader's bounties?
or rather targets than bosses.
ah got it
First traders bounties?
You just need to turn in the chests you get from the minibosses slain. So you won’t need to go to every location, just each unique location once
I really gotta say the core game has really become even better, while it was always great however the big downer for me is really travel time. Rn I'm lookin at the map for a Hildir Boss and that one is roughly a 10-15 boat ride away. That's just too much imo. Exploring the world on foot is excellent while sailing is such an boring affair.
I had to replace them like 10 times already.
I put them, I check ifthey are happy, they are, and then when I check again they might be still happy, or they might want more space
It would appear many players feel the same way about sailing, time will tell if we see something that improves the experience
Sailing at night though is very beneficial because serpent food is better than anything else from swamp to plains
It never change unless you build something else in their radius that essentially stop too many projectiles in random directions for it to consider having enough space
hello peeps, anyone has some server recommendations? I went through lfg but not sure where to go, would like to play casually, vanilla
not building anything. not even loot dropping. nothing
Then wether they have enough space or not will never change
and despite that, it does!
It's something that you may want to check regularly until you find someone or a server that start and fit what you are looking for
ok there's one wild guess - occasional high waves reach high enough to make them think it's too crumped and they never recover on their own
If I restore a stone tower next to a modor altar will it be strong enough to act as a respawn point when I fight her? Or can she quickly tear through stone walls?
@cosmic summit It won't last long. If you want permanent cover, dig around her altar.
how close it is to modor altar? in any case you should be fine if you cover it
Close enough to hit with an arrow
you should be fine then
Theres another castle a bit further away in the other directions. Im going to drop portals in both then just warp back to whichever one is further from her during the fight.
a portal system like Hytale has where you can connect multiple portals with the same one (often home base) would really be a thing.
Give them all the same name with numbers, then just change the number to reconnect to the next portal in the series
What I've been doing for portal organization is having a "main base" in each biome, which are interconnected, and then each "main base" has a room for smaller bases in the same biomes
so if I need to go to the swamps I go to my swamp base and then (if needed) to a smaller swamp base somewhere else
admittedly it gets a bit awkward at times when I'm going (essentially) right next door, but I have to portal halfway across the map to get there
I just have a hub where I place all the portals + the main hub portal and one personal portal I use for exploring
Ironically my main mountain base isn't technically in the mountains - it's in a meadow right next to the biggest mountain I've found
but since I'm not really at a state to protect myself while I build in the mountains it'll have to do for now
maybe I'll build a giant staircase to the top of the mountain from my base
Staircase to heaven xD
really wish we could have bookcases in this game 💔
For what books? 😂
I don't really care, I just want to make it look like I have a bookcase
I don't care if it's entirely non-functional, I just want to build a library
There's plenty of ways to do that.
ohhh that's smart
Yeah, I watched a lot of building videos where they pulled off truly amazing looks and styles. I should watch them again just to refresh my memory.
I do want to say, I approve of how the armors for Ashlands look. Very nice touches.
art style is far more important than 'graphics', in my opinion
lol just landet in AL - every time i turn around and see Drakkar, the Loch Ness thing in front of it gives me paranoia
Yaa tons of Drakkar in Alabama
Do you really have to push tamed animals towards your base except wolves?
Lox you can ride.
Boars yes.
Asksvins you can ride or move eggs.
Chickens.. eggs again.
Unless your base is very far from meadows you can find wild boars to tame them at your base
So you don’t really need to move them
Don't bounties delete themselves when the timer runs out?
Had a star asksvin and a regular chase me into a raised wall pen I made.. Right as taming finishes, regular one pops over the wall and gets killed by a morgen and friends... so much for breeding
I hate how they stack on each otehr
I like to tame them in their own pits with roofs. then dig them together when they are tame. portal even in the pit.
No bounties in the vanilla game
Wanted: Yagluth.
Dead or deader.
Hi all, just wondering if I’ll need to make a new seed when 1.0 comes out to access deep north? Haven’t loaded anything up top
should autoupdate, just dont go up north just yet
Cool thank you, won’t be heading up there anyway
no point anyway, nothing to see, just ice and cold water
after killing Biomass it says that I got a Wishbone for the silver in the mountains. When i check my inventory i only see the regular ones. Those do the trick, there's no special/chosen one of them sticks?
Regular ones? Wdym
the ones i collected a bunch of in the crypts
lol just equip your wishbone and wait for the sound.
Wishbone is a separate equipable
When you equip it walk around the mountains until you pulse, walk towards where it’s strongest and dig
yeah I confused that with Withered Bones
Bring iron pickaxe and frost mead :)
well I certainly don't have a Wishbone in my inventory. 🤔
I got the trophy, no bone
I mean it should be on top of his trophy, no?
bro, you know when you kill elder it drops trophy and swamp key, same thing with bonemass, trophy and wishbone
guess I gotta kill him again
need help?
@near furnace@mental loom@lilac mauve hello first time here is there any news on the PS5 release i have some buddies that wish to play but got PS5s not PCs
All we know is sometime in 2026 🤔
Also don't tag developers especially not at night in Europe ...
I think only Mr. Smiffe actually gets pinged there, don't think the other 2 can 😂
*Dvoid comes out of the blue and says hi to us
This might be a dumb question is there any reason I should rebuy Valheim on steam? Cause I know sometimes the pc version of games is better than the console version.
Completely up to you of course. I don’t know if the game is currently on sale, but when it’s half off it’s basically a steal lol.
PC version gives you access to mods, if you’re into those.
I don't get it. The Wiki says after defeating the "2nd boss" you can buy Swamp Dweller's delight already. After Biomass I still can't buy it.
ok thanks
Hmm well technically, you should unlock the seasoning or whatever that is a component of the feast, not necessarily the feast itself.
It uses the same herb blend as the meadows and black forest feasts. Make sure your cauldron is upgraded and make everything
Think it needs the prep station 🤔
You need sausage and turnip stew from the level 2 cauldron
Ahh right.
you don't have to upgrade the preptable or have it near the food/cauldron upgrades, right?
oh wait yes. you need the prep table to make the feasts.
It doesn't need to be near.
then I'm outta ideas
Do you have all the food? bloodbags, sausage and turnip stew?
I think so, but it would be grey anways if I hadn't.
instead of not showing at all
Not true. If you haven't made all the food, it won't show up.
Could be a mod issue
yeah, that's the only other thing I can think of.
I haven't made the Turnip Stew, since I reserved the Boar Meat for the sausages...
This concept is not such a great design tbh.
That's why you can't see it.
yeah now i do
Thanks tho! ❤️
mkay now I died in the camp fire chatting... 😄
I think feasts is one of the most creative features they’ve done
it's really good. However the part where you don't know the ingredients beforehand but still gotta make them remains questionable to me.
can I have all 3 buff slots from feasts?
hm, here I was thinkin the Swamp Feasat would be stronger than the first 2 🙁
kinda backwards, since I'd rather use a swamp food item then.
you have to be able to get to the bog witch to make all of them, so making all first 3 tiers the same makes some sense, lets you use up chested foods maybe?
They're weaker, but the trade off is they're far longer and the materials are cost effective.
Great for base activities, or situations where you don't feel intense risk, like traversing older biomes.
first 2 feasts + Sausages is just the better loadout imo.
Oh I misunderstood what you were saying my bad.
Speaking of which, is there a Mistlands feast? I have not unlocked one, and I am pretty sure I have bought everything the Witch offers.
Yggdrasil porridge?
No, I have turned many stacks of it into charcoal, and even pulled some off too soon. So had cooked seeker meat in my inventory.
I have that recipe, but I may not have made it.
Its probably the porridge. I don't think that has been made.
We bought the hidden hills spice.
wait, you can meanwhile simply enter the mountain area without getting frostbite?
now that's convenient.
I already had frost pots craftet for this
You freeze. Maybe not immediately, but you will get hit with freezing without those meads, or the right gear. which, of course, you don't get until you get the right mats from the mountains. You can do the camp fire trick, but once a storm hits, those go out.
you can enter the lower areas of the Mountain, near the other biomes. But as you go up the Mountain, you will reach a place where you need frost resistance.
idk I'm at the mountain top and only just used a pot because of dragons. Not like a longer time ago, where you'd just die because of frost bite
Freezing doesn't kill you immediately. It never has. You just start losing HP, until you die, or get out of the freeze effect.
no, it hasn't but i started 10 meters inside the snow. now it simply didnt start at all
Got a lucky glitch, I guess.
It was the porridge. Neither one of us went Mage, so we hadn't made any eitr foods.
what... my wishbone went nuts, so I dug down. There was a skeleton buried with I looted for... Bone Shards and then the alarm went off. Does that thing actually sound false alarm? 😄
Wishbone going for bones 👀
It can happen, yeah.
wishbone has lots of triggers right?
meadows ships, swamp buried iron, and silver?
oh and the skeleton things holding silver necklaces in mtns
Do I throw Obsidian in the smelter just like silver?
and chests with loot. usually found on the broken boats and "graveyard" sites in Meadows.
its not a metal
yea that's what i mean with the meadows ships
I wonder how many people never realize those stones in the meadows are an outline of a boat?
can I ever craft smth out of the 60 bear pelts that I have? would make sense in the Mountain Biome.
Only the bear rug, with a trophy as well.
Maybe they will add more uses with 1.0, or soon there after.
vile armor in the plains
kinda? You're probably killing a dozen or more viles anyway since they only drop 1-2 ribcages per kill so chances are you'll get it through that unless RNG hates you
and viles are easier to farm than bears imo
Yeah, we usually get the needed rib cages last.
(I'm usually playing Valheim with my wife)
is the Horn of celebration worth carrying around? Seems like the weak Stamina mead.
No, its just a decoration.
it doesn't actually do anything by itself, it just lets you drink other mead already in your inventory
oh than it's the buff from the actual weak mead i use for mining 😄
looks good on an item stand but that's abou tit
Oh it can do it too? I was only aware of the dvergr mugs doing that.
Plus the fine wood mug we can make.
it works pretty much the same as those
Makes sense. I usually make one per play through, but never actually use it. For some reason, I do use the dvergr mugs.
oh, I see. haha My friend also calls them "ships". Is it an official name? I call it "graveyard" 😅
I thought you were referring to the broken boats when you said ships.
which biome is the best to make a permanent basem?
If by "best" you mean safest, it would be Meadows for sure. But maybe you can choose an area in Meadows closer to other biomes/resources. Black Forest is also good, if you find a good spot.
Then in terms of terrain, I guess Meadows or Plains. But plains have difficult enemies.
maybe a plains/mistlands area with a few roots? 🤔 but honestly doesn't really matter
Personally, for the roots I just use a portal to go back and forth to grab the sap. I never tried to build a base in the Mistlands or near them.
I've built a base in Mistlands twice. Its a good way to ensure you get plenty of bile sacs and carapace.
is it worth building stuff like Gold Ruby Rings and general jewelry?
man... this game has so many interesting little things and mechanics... how is a game like this not a bigger thing than minecraft...
truly, the mob prefers mediocrity
because a 5 year old and a 50 year old mobile mum wouldn't beat biomass.
After I haven't played for roughly 2 years myself. It's easily in my top 3 Sandbox/Survival Craft whatever this genre is called nowadays.
Does right clicking your gear just hide it or is it actually disabled then?
Contained a pig but I feel like he's going to rip through the walls, am I supposed to do something other than walk 100m away to deaggro him
How do I even feed him...
Dododo...
That would be unequipping it
Figured out the pig
give it a stack of food and stay nearby but non visible, I wall them in usually so they can't see me, if you have found the swamp trader you can also make a potion to tame faster
I'd say meadows and plains. Meadows is the safest bet, but plains is end game good. You can farm everything in plains.
Up to plains. As far as I know, Mistlands is only in Mistlands. Now the Ashlands vines can be grown in the plains.
im not sure if i wanna make a house in the swamp cuz i genuinelly hate the perma wet, or in the mountains... but then id have to terraform a bit...
mountain peak castle or swamp... something... i genuinelly havent seen many swamp builds aside from tree top huts
dunno, mountains it is ig, i dont want another house in the water haha
i just hope the deep north is different enough so that i may build a base there aswell and not feel like im just making a base in the mountains again
Please respect our rules about not pinging developers. You did that at 02.30AM in the Middle of the night. This is'nt acceptable
I go to build and the darkness and fog roll in at the same time 😭
Well to be fair I've done nothing but build so that's inevitable
Night fog is intense though, makes no-map mode a lot more intimidating
good morning Smiffe
someone said 'no-map' ? : )
I'm having so much fun playing on immersive.
Oh yeah
I don't really play any survival game with its map
Immersive mode all in let's go
it is such a better experience, i agree.
there are some issues, like finding the queen. but its doable.
If I never find the queen then that was simply my fate
i spent more time than i can count to find her, on my current (1st time) immersive run.
But i think i would find her faster if i was to try again in a new seed. i learned.
In my only no map playthrough so far I have only killed the Elder. Haven't progressed much after that. I haven't played much in that world after that, but the progress is much slower, and it gets me more tired in general. Probably because of all the roads I have to make 😅
finding bonemass is also very difficult. i found 2 yagluth altars before i found bonemass
Bonemass will be interesting... 🤦♀️
no map also makes me tired. i think its just a lot more mental work to always have to figure out where you are, and to not make decisions that could lead to losing a grave in the middle of nowhere.
i play smaller sessions. i give myself an achievable goal, i do it, then i take a break.
yoo i found one of these little pits at the top of this mountain, im gonna fix it up and incorporate it into my base :D
i never build mountain bases because i'm lazy about that part of the game, but i think they are often the best looking bases.
i would be embarassed to share screenshots of the bases i built so far.. except 1 or 2.
if they are functionnal, its good enough for me..
I'm still on my 1st base, been building it for a couple of days
I might share but it's probably bad
Got my woodcutting to 30 so far on it very nice
the 1st real base is always memorable : )
Recently tore down my first base cus I knew that I needed a new home than the one I made before knowing anything about Valheim
Very happy with how my 2nd house turned out tho #screenshots message
i always hurt a little when i get a skill drain and think of my woodcutting skill : P
i like how wood stays a relevant resource up until the end.
@thorny lake wow ! its amazing..!
I'm building up a nice place I can work on more as the tech progresses
Building with only the basic wood is a bit of a challenge
some people have a gift for deco and builds. i don't.. but i can appreciate them
i just reached the current last biome in my world, and brought back some new building mats :3
i 'wasted' most of it just adding 'stuff' to my base : P idc, its fun.
my 1st base started as a small house, that i kept expanding as i was discovering new stuff. it ended as a weird 'frankenstein' build. it wasnt pretty or efficient.
but i'm happy i did it that way, and didnt spoil anything with the wiki. i just did my mistakes and lived with it.
(i killed the elder before realizing portals even existed in this game)
with 'no-portals', i end up doing bases for all the steps of the game. a small one at the altars, then one for the bronze age, then one for the swamp, etc.
i think it makes building a lot more important and fun when you can't link everything with portals.
Yeah... makes sense. One hour of no map Meadows is like one hour in the Ashlands 😅
In terms of how tired I get
Building is interesting for me, because I don't usually build a lot in a single playthrough, so I feel like I'm still very "noob" and not very efficient or creative. I can't really plan a building from the start like some people do, so most times I just build something random and then I improve it with time when I have ideas. That happened to my last base. It ended up becoming very unique because I had to work with the base structure that I had already, and with the environment as well (I don't usually choose the best terrains haha). So it's like "sculpting" something over time out of an existing simple building.
im currently terraforming the top of a mountain so i can build there
dunno how im gonna keep the drakes away but ill see
hey guys, what time is the deep north update comeing out like is it this year?\
If you dont wanna switch from hammer to bow/crossbow, get a few ballistas to defend your building area
i dont think i unlocked those
What progression are you at?
swamp
Ah sad, best you can do is just kill them b4 you start building
they keep spawning though
Thats normal
so im worried theyll come attack my base once im done building it
If you build with stone its not too much of a problem
Wood ehh it'll take a few good hits till it starts to get the decay look but other than that its not a problem
They only attack when they have line of sight of a base structure
probably a mix of wood and stone
Mixing both is not just good for defense but look aswell
So go ham with your building
Just be mentally prepared to do alot of tedious building
Aerial attacks are not so much a problem for your buildings (except Gjalls, but they only appear in Mistlands), but for your livestock.
No timeline announced yet.
Anyway I am mourning the loss of my tamed asksvin. I had two and one died before breeding /cry
There are no burgers in Valheim! Give now!
burgers? 😮 want!
Closest thing we have to a "burger" in valheim is the health food pie in ashlands 😅
Since its flour and ahem... "tail meat"
Wait theres lox meat pie aswell 🤔
i demand the " deep north smash"
in melted cheeze?
For only 40 pesos you can get a buy 1 get 1 free burger
In Valheim, a burger is just someone who lives on an ice berg.
I wouldn't mind having a burger as an april fools food
I have a feeling that the feast in deep north would have ice cream or just an ice cream feast 🫠
Wait no thats the opposite
Should be hot not cold food in a cold biome
It depends, some cold places have the best cold foods.
I'm from Alaska. You would not believe how much ice cream people eat there in winter. Bunch of weirdos (me included).
I dont usually eat ice cream every day
But knowing how hot it is here in the Philippines
Yeah an ice cream wouldn't hurt
milk or water based ice cream?
Mostly dairy. Big dairy farms in Matanuska
I am building a base without really knowing what I'm gonna put in each building or even how I will put it there. I don't really measure the space. I just build... 😂😅
If its a main base, I try to make a room for each type of crafting with a central kitchen
also make random "houses" for no one, to make it feel like people might live there
matanuska?
The Matanuska Valley
nice 😮
I'm building three different houses and I thought about giving each house one purpose. Like, Portal hub, Crafting stations house and living quarters. But the space in each house is kinda weird rn, so I wonder if everything will fit in there 😅
inadequate
why?
Not enough space
true, that would need to much server space additionally and running all that wiring would be a nightmare 😂
...........
Because even if you wrote it indirectly, everyone knows what you mentioned, and what you mentioned is inadequate to this channel/community. You should know that too.
Discord has as well become such a woke brittle snowflake environment. Not your fault tho.
Anyway can asksvin handle mountains? I’ve never tried them in freezing environment
They should try to have Bounties more in your "pathing" (while that's hard to implement) since one of the biggest problems people have with the game are the long and mostly uneventful boat trips.
A kid friendly server is just not the place for such topics.
Bounties? There are bounties?
well, the head hunts the first trader sends you towards
Haldor doesn’t send me anywhere. Do you mean Hildir? She was the second trader introduced
the dude with the bad ass Kodo mount
I’m lost
sounds like a mod 😮
he gives you some kinda mini head hunts which are called like "Bunty: Yegoth Bloodsplit"
Yep you are using a mod
Is this really mod related? I'm using quite a few. Thought this is base line by now.
You don't know what mods you're using? 😅
Well that explains why you were confusing everybody
Idk i think he's right and love bounty hunting with my npc who give me quest every morning
Some base game stuff ykyk
If you think everything will fit, it wont🫡
anyone got some spare stone?
No F-ing way first time I see surtling it has 1 star... and right next to the first crypt I ever discovered
bruh
and now also first encounter of abomination?!?!?
The swamp loves you
to kill that thing cheesily:
||build a workbench and jump on top of a Crypt can't even hit you melee, while you can melee it.||
depending on your arsenal, you might wanna bring a few arrows 😄
or you manage to keep him in melee the entire time. it's possible but then you would have perfected the cheese
now I assumed it's gender 🤯
I'll spare myself the abomination joke in that regard LOL
sounds like someone raised their difficulty modifier
those elementals have little to no hp and die with a sneak attack arrow.
nope, never
The mountain area is so tuned down compared to last time I played like 2 years ago.
and didn't you have to carry dragon eggs by hand instead of putting 'em in your pocket?
No but they aren’t portalable
the portal thing is such a hot topic in terms if ideologies clashing. I don't wanna open pandora's box here once again.
Fair enough
I just meant that having to physically transport them - and their being heavy AF - was the only real limitation
Hello chat
However how I handle it meanwhile is:
first time I travel anywhere manually and bring the first motherload of like Iron home by traditional ships with way too less space.
But afterwards I really can't be bothered to make a 2nd potentially 30 min trip (back and forth) again and just haul stuff through the portal changing the settings.
I mean people loading carts on their carve is a telling symptom.
Karve?
I get stone portals and then consolidate my storage to one base entirely. Same with all my crafting stations
I love a longship trip with all the iron from a swamp and several cart fulls too
I enjoy the sailing. It’s peaceful. Reminds me of my youth sailing a two man sailboat
the thing with the longship is, it's a friggin nightmare to manoveur through the tiny rivers splitting larger isles 😄
Karves are for river exploration
You often have a waaay shorter way right through a tiny corridor and in the end you are faster with the Karve than with a longship.
and sailing speed while respecting the wind is just way too slow
But the salt spray! The wind in your face! The call of the ancestors!!
Longship is also fastest boat. Which is backwards. The karve being lighter should be faster but less sea worthy
I'm no naval expert, but without the manoveuring component the Longship should be faster with the way bigger sails and more of those?
Heavier and sails aren’t much bigger
If it had a second mast or even an outrigger maybe
the heavy component isn't all that much relevant while travelling on water afaik. but w/e 🙂
Yeah no point since while Valheim sailing is fun, it’s not really based on physics
Loosely based
I'd argue that first time exploring can surely be fun, but making the same uneventtful trip multiple times is just flat out boring and tedious. Plus the long downtime, because that's what it actually is if you've done it often, just becomes not worth it, when you wanna go further away.
Beam length dose affect water displacement though.
exploring on foot is just so much more exciting.
Fair points. But I enjoy the sailing. Helps that the point of my Valheim is to relax and take it easy. Time wasting is part of my playstyle
sure I totally get that, but chilling with a video game doesn't have to be boring.
I’ve killed fader, not in a hurry to do it again yet
that's like watching a lame movie
Hey! I enjoyed “Star Trek: the Motion Picture”!
I gotta admit I'm not Trekky at all 😄
If you were you’d know that was a great joke
That movie features a bald woman. So no 😂
careful in the woke space
Anyway. I need to tame another asksvin tonight. So no calm play for me
Need that egg production. Once I get two will breed them in meadows
2-star asksvin were an absolute pain to get for me. I wish you luck
I must've spend 20-30 hours running around the Ashlands at night
I have a 1 star tamed already
but releasing an army of them into the Ashlands is hilarious so it was worth it
I would love a 2star but a horde on 1 will still be helpful
One thing that applies to all taming is: Dig a pit and lure that thing into it. However I sure as hell installed a mod to reduce the time afterwards, since I won't stick around and oversee the animal becoming domesticated and rather do smth fun.
I’ll probably go for getting a small pen of 1 star Askvin so I have a mount to ride around
I have taming meads. Makes a huge difference
1 stars perform fine, i just wanted the 2 stars to have the best
Once I have two eggs I’ll take to meadows, cull any zero stars and start my animal husbandry program
animal whisper mead makes it tolerable imo. I can spend 15 minutes leveling my sneak skill against the nearest wall or just go take a smoke break.
I have so many poorly managed breeding pits around my base that all fulfill their purpose 😄
Then bring two stacks of eggs to Ashlands
Omg hilarious
yeah my current breeding setup produces about 20-25 eggs per ingame day
but for some reason my boars stopped making love.
so it's reasonably fast
too many boars in close proximity? Limit is 5 within 10 meters iirc
yeah, exactly. So I kept splitting them up, but now the splinter cells with 3 won't multiply anymore as well.
build a breeding tower
what's that?
ah I know waht you mean
that won't make a difference I suppose
basically dig a pit as deep as you can, build a tower above it so your breeders are 12+ meters over the floor and then put a breeding pair in stalls with holes in them
sure, but if the breeders don't breed...
since the piglets immediately drop out of range they never hit the breeding limit
i farm them for coal
so yes, it's all very barbaric. And efficient
it also levels my knife skill
I have 3 prisons each like 20 meters apart with atm like 3 pigs each and they don't breed.
i've never used any dagger beside the butcher knife and still have skill in the mid-30s 😂
the whole thing worked before
they eat though?
I keep tossing them carrots
but do they eat them? Do they show as happy or hungry when you mouse over them?
yeah they even get their netflix and chill hearts
but when I come back they didn't do anything
they need multiple hearts before getting pregnant
it's like they are using prevention 😄
like pills and condoms
maybe they became too domesticated in that regard 😂
Makes the bacon juicier
I breed boars at my farm so i just toss them food and then go harvest and replant and there's piggies. Then i come back some days later and they're boars. Don't ask me how long it takes because i have no idea
Breeding in vanilla requires you to be in the area. They won’t spit out piggies if you aren’t within like 64m
oh true, the mod for taming doesn't apply
but tbh, this is another absolutely tedious time waster
Once babies are there they will age without you being there, but the makin of the bacon requires your presence
first of all it doesn't make any sense at all
and secondly do you want to stick around and watch your pigs populate? This already sounds kinda horrible 😄
instead of actually playing the game
It’s resources of your computer. The game doesn’t do creation if you aren’t there to load the cell
works for almost all other games.
it's nothing but numbers in a table
Breeding /taming isn’t required so if you want to be a livestock farmer, it requires sacrifice 😂
so it doesn't consume ressources at all
well I need them for my feasts
just put your boars somewhere you have something else to do
or wait until chickens since they're easier to transport
what is there to do in a base that is long term fun except bulding smth new?
I rarely tame anything these days until chickens and asksvin. There’s plenty of free range for me
if it's your main base? Food crafting, item repairing, sorting your stuff after a trip, loading your smelters and forges etc.
if it's a farm? Harvesting and planting and feeding all the other animals
Making sculptures. Designing parks…
there's a reason for Valheim over Minecraft
my farm has boars, wolves, chickens, asksvin and a bloood magic skill farm so i can spend time there without just sitting on my ass
Oh yeah need a blood magic farm just for the raving skeles and TWIGs
bottom line is that, it's just bollocks that you have to stick around to make your pigs make love...
it's logical nonsense and it keeps you from doing what you want do to freely.
I just recently dug out a charred fortress to act as my asksvin den. They like it a little TOO much! scoops out eggs with a pool skimmer
My 1st attempt to build an island/peninsula outpost failed last night - The waves were engufling much of the structure, not to mention the little spot islands I was wanting to use as little smelting/cooking courtyards
it's an engine limitation because it unloads areas with no players for efficiency. There's mods that can force an area active iirc if it bothers you that much.
there is no limitation to having numbers change. every private type writer can handle it.
….what?
well if you want to rewrite the code yourself be my guest? I just figured a mod would be easier
this works for literally almost all video games having simliar features.
There absolutely is a limitation on whether a computer can handle loading extra areas, all the vegetation, all the animals, all the monsters, and running their ai
Yeah coastal and island life gets wet at low altitude when it storms
they don't want the active area, just the breeding progressing. Which IS just a number, Valheim is just not set up to progress it if the area isn't loaded
you do not have to load an area... and to throw the whole argument out of the window
Why do crops grow while you are not there????
Almost all games you can come up with that have farming animals handle this kind of issue easily
if they ever change it my current farms will probably crash my game 😂
it is absolutely not necessary at all to load graphical assets to have database values change.
what i mean is that at the rate they're breeding it'd crash from the sheer number if they continued when i'm not there
just throw them a full stack of food each and go away for a bit
come back and boom, save bricked
lol those are less heavy than Excell Macros and your calculator could do that.
the game ALREADY starts lagging if you breed to many animals
your mobile phone could do this for 100 servers with 1000 people each.
when you load the graphics that is. not the calculation
yes, which is what i mean
i'm well aware that storing the basic information of "Y amount of entity X" doesn't have much of a load by itself
I see. I was more refering to the argument before, that you need to be present otherwise the host would go up in flames, if it still has to run those crazy calculations.
well no as i said the breeding progress itself is just a number
it's when you translate that number into actual boars that you could get problems
yes, exactly and thus it makes no sense that you have to be present for breeding. logically and gameplay wise.
i honestly don't care too much either way
there are more serious inconsistencies in the game that i suspend my disbelief for
This argument is making the pigs mad.
they'll be killed shortly anyway 😁
I do because I like to venture out instead of watching my farm. Ths contradicts anyways the philosophy of Valheim being a way more combat focused approach to the genre take.
base management is just as integral a part of the game as combat
it's survival crafting, not action-rpg
you won't progress your base unless you combat stuff
ANYWAY back to my asksvin conquest of Ashlands
this is not even up for debate and the general consensus of everybody discussing the game.
yeah ok you've made your point, you don't want to wait 5 minutes for your pigs to breed. let's just drop it
and you want to defend this obviously lackluster design. This is basically how every progress gets lost
"let's just drop it"
i already said i don't really care either way. The current state doesn't bother me. You don't need to convinve ME why it should be changed.
Lackluster 🤣 if you want 5000 boars swarming your base when you get back from a boss fight, that’s your problem
I just don't get hung up on minor issues like that when playing a good game.
you are trying to make a point for obviously trash design by bringing up an absolutely utopic and absolutely unrealistic example. That's reasonable
It is clearly a performance issues, mobs of any kinds are not loaded in if you are not around otherwise it would be a nightmare
Whatever you say buddy 👌
good argument
If you know you will spend like 10 minutes at base just give 2 food item to the 2 pigs you have and they will have 3 babies that will be grown and ready to harvest in a couple days
Likewise 👌
this doesn't make sense.
Maybe if you have reading comprehension issues. Im saying your “suggestion” is trash and will crash your game unless they go in and make an entirely new game from scratch. But you don’t even care about that, you just want instapigs without effort. And trying to make you see reason is like trying to talk to a stump
I never said anything about instapigs at all. So you resort to making false statements. So I skip reading the rest of it
I wouldn't say so, it feels good and relaxing to talk to nature
Yeah EVO you’re right. The complete opposite of whatever this is!
And why argue with other players? Put it in suggestions and let’s move on
Don’t say “let’s move on!” That’s a sign of weakness apparently 🤣
Wasting time in game bad, wasting time in discord good. Sounds woke /s
If I had Valheim on my phone I’d totally be wasting time there
I’m at work. I would get in trouble
I would too I just don’t give a shit
The guy came in complaining despite not knowing much about the game or having any experience and has been searching for reason to complain ever since
Management has been nitpicking me for months to the point I very nearly walked out Wednesday. STUPID things too.
So playing Valheim at my cubicle just gives them something valid to complain about
Sounds rough. Last time i even hinted at not renewing my contract my employer offered me a pay raise a week later. So i'd totally play Valheim at work, he isn't going to fire me. 😂
Are they hiring? 😹
I just wrote out a two page essay on how I quit retail management and firebombed the bridge as I left. But this isn’t the place for it
Let’s just say I work in funeral service now and it’s so much better
right. Back to the important questions in life. Like "how many asksvin does the Ashlands REALLY need?"
All of them
praising the game for what is good and criticizing what's bad is actually constructive.
sounds reasonable
Give it up man. You aren't in a discussion with devs here. If you were a skyrim character your room reading skills would be zero
kinda true. Rather a glazing chamber
Yeah, I guess I'll expand parts of the house when I need. Doesn't have to be a definitive build. I usually do that.
If only there was a dedicated #suggestions channel
Correct me if im wrong but dont you get 1 and 2 star surtlings only when difficulty modifier is higher?
I guess it beats someone shouting into the void and complaining tbh
no, they spawn even on vanilla difficulty, just more rarely
Ah noted
thats lowkey my favorite way of doing it too, seeng it slowly get bigger and better as you learn more and unlock more things throughout ur playthrough
Yeah, well, there's a reason I say this about management:
Management are people who talk to much, don't work and don't know anything at all
Tell me you’ve never been in management without telling me
He’s dead on for MY management
And a lot of management. I just don’t like absolutes. Sounds very … Sith
Well you know what they say. Sith happens!
There wasn’t a job in my stores that I wasn’t willing to do. Can’t teach if you don’t know.
I’ve cleaned toilets so my crew could focus on the more important stuff
Your management teaches? Mine just print out lists and say “do this by the end of the day!”
“This program takes 3-5 days to verify!”
“Well do something because it has to be done today.”
To be fair, I’m management. Now I just manage paperwork and fix issues caused by other managers 😂
Yup, that's management all right.
Them: "You should produce 25,000 bottles of product today."
Me: "I'd like to, but I had to convert the machine to this type of bottle first. And you know that takes me 3-4 hours."
Them: "So increase the production speed and you'll be fine."
Me: "You mean faster as 100%. How am I supposed to do that?"
Them: "I don't know. You're the operator. Just make sure we get those 25,000 bottles today."
I used to be management at my previous job. That one required some level of competence
So eventually I simply scanned enough pallets with empty bottles and said I got their 25K of bottles.
There is a difference in being a boss and being a leader. Bosses manage, leaders help manage
And somehow they didn't like that. I wonder why? 🤔
Oh shit we off topic
Happens all the time.
Besides, I wonder how most managers I know from my job would manage Valheim.
Somehow I think it's not that good. 😄
When I set up storage, my inventory management shines
When I play with friends I end up assessing strengths & personal preference and delegate tasks accordingly
I wonder if I could pad my resume with Valheim
I know someone who used his guild leader role in a major raid guild back in WoWs heyday to land a management role.
what, other then dying again, can reset "no skill drain" effect back to 10 minutes?
I would consider something similar for an EVE guild
Some EVE Online corp apps are genuinely harder than IRL job apps, so I've heard
Nothing other than dying will reset it, if you see it refresh the timer, it is just a visual bug happening currently.
oh I see it reset a lot
I’ve already used my time working at a renaissance festival on there I might as well go whole hog! 🤣
Resume says you were a boar farmer? And then you ran a wolf farm? Tell us about that…
“Well, demonstrating excellent problem-solving skills and a ruthless efficiency prized in today’s workplace, I enclosed the breeding pair in an elevated box and let the newborns plummet to a pit below, maximizing yield and drastically reducing processing time.”
“You were a boar farmer for checks notes 302 days? And then lost your income due to a checks notes bat raid? Please clarify”
There’s upper management skills right there
“That there’s a real go-getter with upper management written ALL over him!”
The woman whom lets me live with her saw me making a wolf breeder box and was horrified
I would be too lmao
All my critters are free range to some extent. Still enclosed but they can walk around
The falling puppies were what convinced her I was a psychopath
It’s definitely on your list
“They’re fine! And look, they love me”
Tried in LFG but no success yet, Seeking someone to join me on my personal world to work on plains forward 🙂 (might be tricky to find someone but even more if i give up hehe)
Don’t give up. Take it slow, have upgraded mountain gear and best food you can make. Wolf skewers and eyescream etc
Pierce resistance like root harness is good too
Keep eyes open and don’t be afraid to run.
What's your current method? Moder dead?
Embrace running, always have an exit game into another lesser biome, identify rocks and other high ground as you dive deeper. Stay the hell away from tar creepers, always snipe them safely one at a time.
Use Huntsman Bow when you’re sniping your way into Fuhling camps (most quiet bow, less likely to aggro extra enemies).
regular - vulkan was crashing for me everytime I started a new seed
@zinc dagger ?
Sorry if this is answered; Do we have an official timeline for the release of Hotfix of latest patch 0.221.10?
Is Valheim going to be in EA longer than Palworld?
I don't know what you are talking about, palworld is from 2024 and valheim from 2021 so it obviously is longer yeah
It could be. But it's most likely shorter in EA than 7D2D.
Idk what that is.
7 days to die
It's a game that has been in EA for 10 years.
world of tanks has been for long too
Is that supposed to be a positive note for Valheim?
It’s neither positive nor negative. It’s just pointing out Valheim isn’t an outlier
World of Tanks is on patch 2.2.1.
How is it in early access?
it was in early access for so long
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
at least change pic bro
I guess.
It's not a bad or good thing, some devs just come up with some much ideas to their games that it is needed to be in early access longer because they don't thing the game is yet complete
Valheim will get the 1.0 version early this year so i think it's got to be before June i guess
That makes it sound like those devs didn't have a good foundation. Just look at The Forever Winter making paid DLCs to an early access game.
I don't think there should be paid DLCs to early access games, that's just silly to me
oh yeah actually
Yet people wonder why Nintendo, EA, and Ubisoft do the things they do.
Uh, yeah, no. I've played too many games in where you can unlock skins/characters in game without MTX to ever believe cosmetics are justified.
So is all DLC bad? 🤔
OLD MAN MEME "Back in my day, they were called expansions. Star Craft Brood War and Halo 2 multiplayer map packs were actually good deals."
Yeah, I remember loving all the old Halo expansions. At the time, I never thought anything bad about DLC
But it gets tricky when developers appear to blatantly hold back content for the sole purpose of releasing it as DLC.
I probably wouldn’t love if Valheim released DLC before 1.0? 🤔
But, then you think back and remember that Nintendo sold two copies of the same game, which arbitrarily kept you from encountering certain Pokemon. And then you need an N64 and Pokemon Stadium to complete your Pokedex.
I would buy so many cosmetic dlcs for Valheim
I JUST WANT MY VIKING TO BE PRETTY!!
Talking about Red/Blue? don’t think you needed stadium to access any exclusive Pokémon, though I think there were moves locked behind it.
Not being a Nintendo defender (I really don’t like modern Pokémon, don’t get me started lol) but I can believe that at the time the intent was to encourage trading, considering the scope of the game(s)
But yeah, if any other game tried that nowadays, I don’t think it would be received well
Funnily enough, imo, I think a bigger offender is actually the Zelda Oracle games. The big bad boss was locked behind having access to both games 🤔
Oh and on a side note, when I made the comment about content being purposefully held back… I was definitely thinking about Pokémon ZA Mega Dimension lol
You needed Pokemon Stadium to get a surfing Pikachu, which was used in a minigame in Pokemon Yellow.
And Capcom made the Oracle of Seasons/Ages games.
Sure, but that’s kinda negligible imo 🤔
Pokémon has done far far worse… gen 3 locking numerous Pokémon in the GameCube titles for a time, so many locked Pokémon in mystery gift in gen 4… plenty of questionable things they have done.
Ah right, Capcom did make those, forgot about that. Love those games though 👀
The Oracle games are top tier gameboy games imo.
It's neglegable, until you have nothing better to do than to 100% the games. I barely even hunted for the Regis in Gen 3, and that's the Gen I stopped playing Pokemon.
Oh, yeah. Don't forget that Gen 2 Pokemon had MTXs in Japan. People bought wireless adapters for their cell phones to hook up their gameboys to the internet.
I stopped after gen 4 for the most part, I was a gen 5 hater at the time haha
Once I saw Dialga and Palkia's designs, I knew Pokemon wasn't for me anymore. And then when I saw that Key-ring Pokemon or that chandelier Pokemon, I knew there was never going back.
