It has a different skill level too
Just playstyle really. Both good weapons.
I love spears, they have a lot of neat advantages. But atgeir is pretty busted
Atgeir: I am Spain, without the A! SPIIIIIN
more complex question - which is going to be better with parrying?
I got that altgeir can to witcher-aoe thing - is that just a replacement for parry-counter style?
Atgeir: I am Spain, without the A. And my enemies, are Spain, without the S.
Spin2Win tactic always works
A buckler will always be best at parrying but the atgeir is still good at it and you can use the spin instead for stronger enemies
Kind of is a replacement yeah? You can still do parrying just fine with atgeir, but the spin is probably more effective a lot of the time.
Strictly speaking though if you want a parry playstyle I'd recommend buckler and spear
game just slapped me with "you don't have any processable items" without any excuse
It usually says that when you don't have any processable items π
buuuut... what qualifies?
Depends on what you are doing, this message can be seen at multiple stations
You probably tried to put wood in a charcoal kiln without wood on you, or metal in a smelter without metal on you, or mead in a fermenter without mead on you
What is the best weapon to use a bloodstone to modify?
In theory I thought the slayer would be best but so far, it doesn't feel all that great. It's so slow that I feel like it coerces you into playing defensively and just going for big burst damage, making it less likely for you to take damage in the first place. Moreover, when you're one hit and getting the most out of the bleeding damage buff, the slow speed makes it much harder to both capitalize and stay alive at that point.
TLDR: Brutal Slayer doesn't seem like the play. Anyone like anything else?
No
I'd say brutal slayer is the 2nd best choice. But as you said, it's still not great. Which is just because bloodstone sucks :/
Best choice would be on the crossbow, which can be decent. Kind of a wonky playstyle tho. You self-damage yourself (jump off something tall or whatever) then fire the crossbow for a high damage sneak attack. Can oneshot valkyries
Blood is only really worth anything over lightning if you eat 3 health foods and stay on real low hp, and even then it's not a big damage buff over lightning, other than for a high damage weapon sneak attack
fermenter it was
see how poorly worded that message is? it took couple question to figure out even the context..
If you understand the context already it's easy to understand but i can see not understanding the message without knowledge
Yeah...
Lightning is king and I'm very familiar with that, but I always try to get some use out of lesser-used choices in all games I play.
Yeah. Root is kinda busted too but in a more cheesy way
Blood I love the concept of but it's just sad how weak it is. Really needs a buff.
Still running around at 30/300 hp with a bloddy Slayer secondary attacking enemies is fun. Especially if you manage to get a a sneak attack in
compared to which ones?
Compared to games like Ark Survival, Minecraft, SCUM, No Mans Sky, etc.
I dislike NMS, the concept was neat but the execution was poor imo
can't compare to Ark, didn't hear of scum,
NMS has automations and grind is more of a gacha/random problem there
but my most recent is Nightingale and there I didn't feel like I am just grinding ever
Grind is often a random problem in valheim too for trophies
how to find where 1 missing comfort point is?
also, I found that it varies quite a bit around my cabin
but there's definitely one missing - I should have 10, according towiki:
sheltered, near campfire, bed, table, chair, deer rug, banner
The things you listed should give you 9:
Sheltered near campfire 2
Campfire 1
Rug 1
Table 1
Chair 2
Bed 1
Banner 1
huh, I must have counted table as 2
I wonder why progression guide said that it's possible to have 18 minutes (11 comfort) at this stage
Which stage are you at?
do all wooden structures get weared down by water? aka it's impossible to build anything on top of water?
You can get 1 more for throne if you have bronze
just before venturing to swamp
and technically you can have 12 comfort if you have the seasonal items, but without them 10 is the limit for black forest progression
how so? I don't think I can build anything throne-like
Did you make bronze nails? π
You could get 10* if you find a natural spawn
I actually found one near start, but it's really far away atm
Oh, wait, that requires different nails, so 9 comfort is the limit
yep
When summer comes IRL you'll be able to build them wherever you want with a few materials
guess I will wait a few month before continuing with that extra minutes of buff
so, my first 'foul smell'...
yep, parrying in a group is not skill based, but rather a dice roll on how they decide to attack
looks like they are not that tough - should be able to walk through the swamp with a breathe
Just be wary of starred archers they can snipe you from behind and they hurt
last i checked, starred everything hurts
Absolutely lol
Are you saying parrying groups of enemies is hard or?
Remember that this is a help channel, not an adventure blog. π
there isn't much dice rolling in how enemy attacks are triggered, they each have a cooldown, distance, angle etc to determine when they can be used
it's only random when multiple non-prioritised attacks are available at the same time
and these basic enemies don't do that
it's referring to previous conversation that involved parrying... but yeah, a bit offtopic
I really dislike tendency for enemies to make absolutely 0 noise
aka skeletons sneaking up on you
Almost everything makes a noise when it sees you, including skeletons
I bet they don't like it when you sneak up on them too.
when sees - yes
but walking makes no noise
so in a fight you expect enemies to see you - but you don't have sound to alret you when it somebody aproaches from behind
I play with a group of players who are deaf. They get by okay.
The only way to tell if a charred warrior is feinting or not is by sound, I wish there was a visual too
they don't know what they are missing
An incredibly fucked up thing to say.
anyone tryna play im new lol
Try asking in #1024264966712340510
Before going to the mistlands, where's the "ideal" place to put my portal? Do I just build a small base in the plains nextdoor or are there good spots in there? It looks pretty scary in there ngl with the flying guys
You might be able to find ||small stone structures that can protect your portal. Some of them are occupied, though.||
Do you mean those dvergr guys? i saw a few of them fighting on the coast. I've heard of the structures before but thought you cant build in or near them
Not without taking some aggressive measures
π€£ I see. ill just make a little base in the plains for the time being then until i get comfortable
hey guys, i usually build little workbenches to repair my cart when im hunting gathering in the dark forest, should i destroy them before i leave? like i read somewhere that workbenches make the area stay loaded, so im worried that if i do this enough times this will affect my performance
I don't think they should make the area stay loaded
Only thing that they do is they prevent items from despawning, and mobs from spawning, within their radius. But all that's only relevant anyways when YOU are in the area, causing the area to load in
But might as well destroy them anyways to bring your wood with you?
okay thanks
any types on melee queen?
Could anyone explain the sudden lag when I teleported home? friend and me went to get stone, put them into our chest and whenever we look at our main base, the game starts lagging until it's unplayable. We looked everywhere to find laying items, removed fire to get rid of smoke particles but nothing worked
question, does anyone have an issue with the black forge + upgrade to make it level two?? I'm trying to make a black metal pickaxe and the recipe isn't even showing up in the craft menu, despite having the correct ingredients according to valheim wiki?
You need to use a Forge, not a Black Forge.
OH! wow, don't know how I missed that ... thank you!!
Not to worry. π
Too many entities, w.g. farm animals, or placed blocks
Also dropped items, try running the command thst clears all dropped items
Maybe you have some I the ocean or just out of vision or smthn
No entities, no farm animals, we changed nothing on our based for weeks
can you help me
Try clearing dropped items.
Also Google valheim chunk leader
Is there a command to maybe see how many dropped items are around?
Would be a bummer to miss out on valuables
Thing tho is, it's only at our base
The Ashlands, where we left probably tons of stone doesn't even lag
yes ma'am
Only thing worse is having your game become unplayable/losing hours of base building
is deer stew, minced meat sauce and boar jerky good for starting the swamp?
might want to replace the jerky with carrot soup for more sta but the other two are fine
jerky is kind of base food since it has low stat totals
then once you find turnips you can upgrade to turnip soup
yeah maybe
im too worried about having enough health but i usually find myself lacking stamina
was thinking to get the red brooch instead of the heart of the forest
if you find the bear trophy for it. I wouldn't bother grinding for it since there's also a swamp trinket that returns sta
i got one... its in my rug...
Rug can be demolished.
i know...
the swamp one is better anyway imo
Better is subjective.
If you're struggling, rush some iron, make a cooking station and use serpent stew.
Also, upgrade to sausage ASAP.
Muckshakes are a good stamina food if you've already got 2 health ones
you were right, that extra bit of stamina really helped my survivability
More stamina = higher chances for survival.
how do i rebind dodge to something else?
You can't, it's always jumping while blocking
thats a little annoying, im used to pressing shift
i almost never dodge, and im playing on 200 ms x_x
It's also jump while sneak isn't it?
No clocks in Valheim. There are a couple of ways to do it; I usually use my food timer.
You can build a sundial if you're so inclined.
lots of tutorials on sun- yeah that
I've had success with macro programs, you could try that.
Look where the sun directs at your map. It rises from East and sets to West.
Day cycle lasts 30 minutes (day 21 minutes, night 9 minutes).
Oh yeah, I forgot about that one.
The pointer on the minimap works to give you an idea, assuming you can SEE the sun.
True, in some biomes it's harder to see the sun.
One trick also could help, which is setting comfort level to grant 21 minutes long duration for rested buff when waking up and when it ends it means the night starts.
ahh okay fantastic tips, ill try one of those
what's the usecase for warden?
Wards are mainly for multiplayer to stop other players entering your base and opening your chests and stuff
in singleplayer? an alarm that flashes when something attacks your base and a decoration
but that still can destroy stuff?..
I don't think they can destroy or build, no. But they can break the ward by hitting it I think.
It's not super useful if I'm entirely honest
It sets off a signal when something is being attacked, great for larger bases and enemies you're not aware of.
any tips on beating yagluth solo? a lot of the google searches are a couple of years old now
If you bring fire resistance barley wine and tonic of ratatosk and aren't using a pierce weapon you should be ok. Yagluth is neutral to spirit damage so a silver sword or frostner can work very well if you made one previously
not familiar with tonic of ratatosk, will check that out as well. thank you!
have you found the bog witch?
Yup, just found her the other day
buy the cured squirrel hamstring
oh wow, yea that is a great tip. just looked it up!
#screenshots message
I don't understand how much more 'room' they need
Dropped objects can interfere, but it looks like the terrain there has been modified as well, and you need to be careful not to bury rocks if you want to plant things.
bury rocks as in manually placing ones or raising ground?
it was copper here before
Raising ground around rocks that were there before.
There's a decent chance there's a nearby rock/copper tucked under the ground nearby.
Lots of loxs.
The best food you can make
Fire resist wine, an effective damage type weapon
Does the Big rock clearing spawn in old worlds at undiscovered places?
New content will load into unexplored areas yes
Thank you!
I'm not 100% sure but it might not appear in older worlds.
this should be ~almost~ depth limit, but some bumps I could dig further, and some couldn't
I can't say I agree, ultimately the world has plenty of room to plant elsewhere.
Why wouldn't it? For my edification
At least when I tried to find them in my test world none was found.
Otherwise, I think the old world would have generated something new in world when opened after the update.
What's the best gem to go with then suing the Slayer?
Slow attack speed weapons sadly benefit the least from the gems (imo)
Lightning would probably be the best overall pick. Good damage, and can get a lot of procs if you hit multiple enemies at once
Blood slayer is really fun if you go triple hp and get on low hp and your secondary CHUNKS enemies. But honestly not really worth it, just fun
Hm, still cant find any bloodstones in fortresses, Ill just keep it as it is then
I suppose you could get poison if you wanna try to hit groups and lock some of them down to single enemies out
You can hit multiple enemies in this game?
Yeah honestly not using gems on the slayer might be the move. Save them for other stuff
Never worked for me except the Aitgir or whatever it is called
Yeah. Most weapons have penalties though so if you hit two enemies, you'll only do 66% damage to each instead of 100% damage each
Battleaxe is very nice for hitting multiple enemies, but even something like a spear can do it
ah, makes more sense
Currently in love with the lightning battle axes so might as well stick with them
Almost all enemies are weak to lighting in the ashlands for some reason
Only two I can think of are. and one of them is submerged in water so that's why
But most are neutral to it
A little wierdness at the end of my session last night, maybe someone can help me understand.
After a long exploration trip in my karve (elder is VERY far, and I was scouting out some other biomes for a longer term base) I was full on inventory, had foud the bog witch, trader, some suken crypts, and a good spot to land for the elder - so I headed home. I was cutting through a river shortcut and had just made it to open ocean with a straight shot home - calm sea, just turned to morning, so I wanted to tab out real quick to check something. Game/comp froze and I had to restart.
When I rebooted the game, I spawned in my bed, inventory still intact but my karve is... somewhere... I hope. The map had not updated to show the river shortcut, so I don't think it saved after I had done that part. Do I need to retrace my steps to recover the boat/inventory? I'm thinking of just spawning a new karve and chalking the inventory as lost (RIP chitin...)
Can I just use an item ping to try and track it down faster? Normally I'm all for the struggle but spending my limited playtime to make up for a bug loss is a bit silly to me
Not sure about item ping but you can enable "fly" in devcommands to go search
and could spawn chitin too if you wanted
Fly isnt a bad idea... I was marking off locations of interest as I went so I can probably track it down fairly quick assuming it exists
Honestly, if the game bugged out like that and did something obviously outside of how it was designed, you can't be reasonably faulted for spawning some compensation in with cheats.
When the game crash and you are on a boat, the boat will just be where you were last time it saved, it might be a couple minutes like it can be close to 30 minutes
But just taking the same path you should find it rather quickly
I had skirted by some plains on the journey - just hope it's still there and not too close
Me when I'm on my way to fight the Elder and I hear buzzing:
must run
is there a website that shows you all structures on a valheim seed?
There: https://valheim-map.world/
The Valheim world generator allows players to preview seeds and their map without needing to generate them in game. It also lets them find points of interest such as the trader, bosses, or crypts. Now supports Mistlands!
Any news on the hotfix coming out?
what are we even hotfixing?
Can anyone help me with setting up a server to play with my friends using BepinEx mods? they have the same exact folders and versions and configs and all that but when they try to join it says the versions are incompatible... what are we doing wrong?
Not sure about much else, but i know smiffe mentioned one not too long ago, but xbox needs one for a bug with crouch activation
At least the visual bug of new decorations when they get damaged (by rain) and very messy looking by that.
how to join official serwer ?
There are no official servers, each server is hosted by players. You may search joinable world in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
just beat him! tonic was a game changer ty ty
It surely is. π
how do i load old character save
Choose Manage saves when you're on character/world menu.
Any idea when Valheim HD 2.0 releases?
They broke a few things with the update apparently
I fixed the mouse issue i was having, if anyone els is having the High mouse scrolling sensitivity, I downloaded "Better Mouse" for Mac and turned off all "Smooth Scrolling" now all works π
i cant break stuff with hammer
i legit hadn't noticed been playing on it, but that's not uncommon (new update, new bugs)
go damage the fairy lights, thats just one of the ones im aware of
I've been having a lot of FPS drops when moving, and I'm wondering if that's a common issue? If I stand still the framerate is smooth but as soon as I move around it'll drop a few frames a second. The steam fps chart shows it dropping from 120 all the way down to 4 fps. It's reproducible by walking back and forth at a certain distance from my base, so maybe it's related to buildings spawning in? Anyone know a way around this?
Depending on how big your base is it could be that. The amount of placed objects/crops/trees and whatnot. Could all contribute to frame drops. The only option I've found that works is separating into lots of smaller bases connected by portals
Another option is you should be able to change how far away things render in at. And that could help when your outside your base
It's a solo world, so I don't have any particularly large bases. It also happens out in the world away from my bases, so thought trees loading in or something but idk. I have an rtx 3060 and a 3700x, so i'd think that would be in the overkill range for a game like this
It could also be low ram. I know when I have lots of tabs open I get pretty low frames and I have like 40 somthing gb
Hmm maybe. According to task manager I'm only using about 70% but idk how accurate that is
I would try turning down the graphics, or the render distance. Im not sure what the settings are called
Even 70% though could cause minor issues
Is terrain modification still a concern? I'm seeing conflicting info online about that, and that could well be my problem if it is.
nah
They fixed that a good number of years ago.
Okay, update. The resolution options in game were only affecting the menus. I enabled exclusive fullscreen through steam launch options, and changing resolution is actually reflected in the game now. The menu was previously defaulting to 4k for some reason, but changing the menu had no impact on the game, so I think it was running the game in 4k for some reason. I'm seeing about a 50% improvement at 2k compared to before, still getting fps drops but they're significantly less noticeable now
why cant i place deer trophies on the boss stone ?
i have 7, have them in hotbar, pressing the key assigned, it says i cant place them
cause deer arent one of the bosses. You've gotta beat ekthyr and put that trophy up there
wth i was told i place deer trophies to summon the boss
what do i do then im so confused
OH my bad, misunderstood boss stone
The sacrificial stones are different to the boss summoning altar
The sacrificial stones is where you put the BOSS trophy
the boss summoning altar is where you SUMMON the boss
check your map
Right, if you're trying in the circle of stones at the starting area, that's the wrong place. There's a small interactable red stone there that will reveal the location of the summoning altar. You have to go there and put the trophies on the altar
and you'll see
i got it, i just had to wait for huginn to get off the stone
ah, if you interact with him and hit your interact button again while his text box is up, you can dismiss him lol
Listen to the bird lol, and also press e on him so he can go fly off

Hey, is there any way to check logs after crash? Since last update I got 4 of them in an hour of gameplay
I checked that Player.log file in AppData/LocalLow/... but it just ends with 02/11/2026 02:45:40: Activating default element GuiScaling
Also AppData/Local/Temp/IronGate/Valheim had just PSO, no logs that I've noticed
Pressing f5 isn't brining up a console - it looks like I can toggle devcommands on and off in the chat box but nothing else is coming up?
Do you have -console in steam added to your launch options?
I did not, but I got it going and found my boat.. by the plains ofc
If i had to guess what caused the crash, I think I tabbed out exactly when it started to world save, It's right around 30 mins worth of sailing lost
Is there anyway to get tree seeds reliably after planting? Like with crops there is a definite way to replenish seeds but can you do this with trees?
Not exactly, it's best to deforest an area far away and accumulate a large amount of seeds to go through over time.
is it just me, or inventory space is extremely limiting?
It's intentionally limited, but very workable if you don't try to take things you don't need.
Pretty divided topic. Very requested to add more inventory slots / backpacks / add seperate slots for armor and weapons and such
But also a lot of people that argue that there's plenty of inventory space once you stop filling 10+ slots with useless stuff
My advice would be to just be mindful of what you're bringing. Do you really need a pickaxe on every trip? an Axe? three different weapons?
Can even optimize further by for example just bringing one piece of each food you eat with you, so you can eat a piece to clear up an inventory slot, then grab new food whenever you drop materials at home
Well, that's again on topic of exploration. When you explore, you have no idea what will be there, so you bring in different weapons. Some new ore or tree might get found - so you take instruments too. You not sure when you will be back at ur base so backup food is there as well. Meads for buffs in tough situations. 6 slots of clothes. Shield. Bow and arrows. Hoe for creating paths so you can know where you been and where to go.
And then you actually go explore and find all sorts of drops without knowing what you will need in future and how much.
Of course once you complete the game and get 100+ hours and know every step you will make there's no such problem. But optimizing for that part of audience is kinda like saying "everyone who returned from everest liked it"
So, question isn't that "is it even possible to optimize inventory" because surely yes, once you know what you know ahead.
But question of "what should I drop" is way too frequent and gets annoying when you do something you didn't do before.
Have you unlocked ||portals|| in black forest?
Those usually help out a lot, so you can get tools if you come across something new, or go dump the items you've found. Can get annoying portalling back and forth tho
Let me draw a comparison I hope makes sense:
In Nightingale (fairly different by many aspects so it's not really an ad) you get many more slots (i believe it's 50ish) and stack size is really high, you rarely have 2 stacks of something. You can also haveacces to extra 20ish slots on demand at any point of the map. And you get 10ish slots in your ai companion.
And equipment has dedicated slots
But there more different drops when you explore, thanks to tier system as well.
As result, you get full inventory space problem too, but maybe only when exploring and picking up trash and way less often.
No portals, but ability to instantly go home at any point. And return trips made easy by umbrella gliding.
So more slots needed is countered by: having more slots, specialized slots, 2 ways to have access to extra slots thta are not in ur inventory, extra easy way home, easy traversal overall (less time going back to pick up or continue exploring).
Ofcourse each game should stay unique, but looks like inventory space is a recognised issue that should be addressed
yep, already annoyed of teleporting
well maybe would be less so if I were to start placing them everywhere when I need, but I worry they get destroyed by enemies
Can confirm no-portal runs are kinda fun
But also very tedious and prob not great for a new player
They will rarely get destroyed in my experience. Only if you lead enemies directly to them trying to escape through it (even then, prob won't break) or if you put it up somewhere random then spend hours in the surrounding area
But if you're just placing one down then moving on it'll be fine
They only get destroyed when the area is loaded
Console commands can be enabled in game settings since Call to Arms update.
I will be honest I have no idea how to hear deathsquite before it's too late to parry
Wear headphones and turn it up. Usually audible. Or run away
headphones on, crit and parry sunds are already loud
I found some kind of stone well with spiral stairs and green torch...
I have key in my inventory but it doesn't seem like I can do anything with this
that's kind of their thing, you have to keep an eye out visually
easy to do when your camera is in tree leaves or they are behind trees
thems the breaks
try to get into open ground
rng won't allow
I get a patch of plains near meadows so there are trees growing about as densely as in meadows
also, what's up with trophies? do I ever need them? they feel like number one trash item I won't pick up anymore
some trophies are used for crafting
some can be used as fuel-less light sources
some just look cool
And all trophies convert to coal 1:1 in the Obliterator so if you're bringing home trash loot to turn into coal they're your first pick
They're nice for decorating your big hall with everything you've encountered and slain.
stone golem trophy looks awesome
so no reason to stack and store them?
Hmm nice convenience
Some are used for different recipes.
skeleton trophies for the bone tower shield for example
and i think the new blob bombs take trophies too?
Baits, some weapons/shield, vial bombs, trinkets mostly require trophies.
also several head armors
Wolf cape too.
So yeah, i'd keep at least 1 stack of each trophy
Do I get every recipe it could be used for when I pick up the trophie, or do I have to wait for later before knowing if it is useful for anything but decoration?
You get the recipe once you've got all the ingredients, trophies included.
hehe, now it feels like that key I got from the elder is the unused slot...
so, bonfire got unlocked, and...
there's no descripttion of how it's any different, except for requireing much much more expensive items then campfire.
It has wider area for fire effect, has more hp and is not extinquished by rain compared to campfire.
and when does game tell that?
Well, there is no other way than testing, demolishing returns the mats anyway.
without placing you can also see the size / silhouette, it doesn't go out in rain etc but I do like that the game doesn't handhold every little thing meticulously, makes exploring things and happenings more fun imho
it is nice to explore some details.
but basics should be covered.
we remember stuff when we pick up items, right? why shouldn't we know that bonfire is a big fire that doesn't go out in rain? that's the basic thing. otherwise there's no real incentive to build it.
and the thing about being able to place cooking stations nearby to make them work is something what would be nice to know beforehand too
Hello everyone! Has anyone else encountered this issue? After updating, the game freezes completely after 10-15 minutes of play (the monitor is dark and unresponsive), and the GPU temperature rises to ~85Β°C (175Β°F) even in the main menu. It works fine with other games (Borderlands 4 or Deadlock). My GPU is an RTX 3070ti.
anyone knows how to fix signs? for some reason whenever i increase the size of the text it just randomly goes from top to bottom, like the words split into groups of 2 letters and just go from top to bottom randomly instead of left to right
Any mods? Have you tried validating game files?
No mods( Yes, files validated, doesnt help((
restarted PC and all that, could you try a different GPU driver (are on on GPU beta driver or something?) haven't seen much about your problem yet
I'm on a 2070S haha my GPU is old
So Im reading up on arrows vs Moder. I always tend to use fire arrow with draugr fang. However Ive read that the fire dmg is so small it doesnt matter all that much. So others suggest needle or poison arrow. But poison dont stack between draugr fang and poison arrow do they?
needle if you have I'd use, poison is still higher than the one from draugr but you can just make every 6th arrow a poison one or so, i often use obsidian ones
I do not find the fires ones that useful for her even with the vulnerabilities etc
Yeah agreed. I play with controller so switching arrow mid fight is a bit bothersome. So I tend to stick to one.
I think Ill try needle this time, go to plains and farm some needles before I take her on. Thanks!
when you open the inventory it remembers the last slot you hovered over, if you place that slot near your arrows you can swap very fast
Definitely go for pure damage rather than status
I only use obsidian, or needle if I needed to go through plains to reach her
Alright thanks!
What are overall the best arrows to use for any situation?
depends on what you're fighting and what you have unlocked
overall though, like if i just wanna carry around one type of arrow for any moment except boss fights
Frost Arrows are great for a lot, but I would not use them against a frost immune Stone golem for instance, also Charred Arrows are also really good, pure pierce, but from the 7th biome
this heavily depends on where you are in the game though, which biome?
Iβll take that answer as there not being an overall one good arrow for everyday use
Frost is pretty good, if I'd have to pick 2 it would be charred and frost
Just wondered if there was a preferred arrow for most circumstanses, but i know what each arrow is good for already so not gonna waste ur time giving me answers on that, thank you for the info tho:)
wood arrows for everyday use. Because they're cheap and needing more shots just means faster skill gain
Not a bad way to look at it tbh, maybe iβll start using some for skill gain
but you're right in some way, fire is amazing for wraiths & abomination for instance
once you get to Mistlands you can switch to carapace since you'll be drowning in carapace shortly
Just arrived at mistlands so ig iβll figure out what carapace is very soon:), thanks
it's a side benefit, but a nice one. Mostly it's the cost factor because as a bow main you go through a lot of arrows. And i don't like farming drakes that much.
yeah but charred are sooo cheap too to make, if you are at that level
i need my ashwood for building so it's not worth the 10 pierce over carapace arrows for me
and iif you dislike farming for arrows as a bow main with super high bow skill, just make the wood ones, they not as good but the easiest farm is you use elder buff
Ashwood farming with those axes and elder buff or moder for carry, troll mead on top, is soo much fun and easy though
Oh also whats considered the best 3 swords in the game?
1h or 2h? the mistlands 1h is great, but also the ones from the 7th biome of course
Preferably 1h but 2h would be cool to try out as well
the "mysterious" sword is okay but maybe not as powerful as some other ones from the currently last biome
also the Silver Sword is the best weapon in the game to kill 5th boss with
everything has its place in a way, the bronze sword is of course not the best as soon as you get going in the swamp
Silver sword has truly been good for a long time for me, just recently upgraded to the black metal sword but i still switch to the silver sword when i plan on fighting the undead or ice caves
Also imo silver sword is one of the most beautiful weapons to me in the first 5 or maybe even 6 biomes
so, what happens, is that way too often the time parry doesn't work apparently because my attack is still in action. this gets really annoying when fighting groups, especially when there's an archer
Gets harder to parry if too many mobs just use an atgeir, archer is is what it is though
is it even possible to parry multiple enemies back to back?
sometimes, I wonder around my home after like... idk, 5-10ish minutes after last death
And then I see 'no skill drain' timer above 9 minutes
is there something that resets it that isn't dying?
so, I started exploring second swamp after abandoning first one because it had 2 patches of plains on the way to it and I was getting too distructed on my way there.
I found and cleared 4 stone circles with piles, died again of 4th one.
all i get from them is some materials I don't use anywhere.
so... why even do swamp?
look for stone crypts with 2 green torches out front.
Hello, I have a question. I want to make big tunnel. Is there a mod or other tools I can use? Using just a pickaxe takes too long.
Can't do it in vanilla Valheim. You can ask in #mods-discussion if they have anything.
well, they are not there. but isntead I found many useless piles
try another swamp then. That's what you're looking for.
Yea. Though if theyre hard hitting enemies the stagger you take from parrying them is gonna start adding up and eventually your parry will fail / you will get staggered
Tho this usually isnβt an issue if you eat decent food, use a buckler, and play on normal difficulty
eating best I can, using buckler, and normal difficulty...
though, how does food affect stagger meter?
The maximum stager you can take is 40% of your max hp
Yesterday i killed a serpent at sea
When i finally got my boat to turn, the meat was gone. What couldve happened there? It floated when i started the turn
How do you guys farm it for stew?
Harpoon it and drag it to the beach
Or get lucky like I did and find one being murdered on the coast by two fuling
Meat should have stayed there, only despawning after like 5 or so minutes
I thought I need to manage stamina in the swamp...
you do
Was themiddle of the ocean
The serpent can hit the boat while hapooned right?
Yeah thought so too, maybe because it was a storm that it despawned?
Well yeah but if you're heading to shore at a decent speed to drag it, it won't reach you
Actually I think I've just never been hit. I can't confirm that from experience
s othen I have to choose between having stamina to not get slaughtered in the combat and having ealth to not get slaughtered in the combat
Claw weapons use like, 0 stamina, you can triple health food.
And run poison resist meads
Stop moving the boat when the serpent is at like 20%
Boats have way more health than you'd think
Is it possible to suspend a circular base on ancient stone circle in meadows?
I am trying to make a post... for a server. I have a couple dedicated but this is the second time i have been blocked from being able to create a post. I dont know what is wrong with my post....
any admin able to help me out here? trying to understand what i have in my post blocking me from posting
Wooden one as it only needs wood and bows are mostly skill dependent
I have internet, ran a speed test and its all working, but when i try to start a server for my buddy to join it says Failed to log in. It keeps giving me the retry countdown but nothing is fixing it. What do i do?
Fire or the current strongest arrow
I dont understand what youre saying
When you jump off the boat, it stops instantly. So you should never have to turn around, just wait till the serpent is 1 hit from dead, let him get close to the boat, finish it and jump in the water to grab the meat
I like to try to hold the last shot and let it get close and jump shot it and land before the trophy and scales sink. It works sometimes, and less time consuming than harpoon dragging them to shore.
60% of the time, it works everytime.
Or jump in and punch it, yet most of the time I end up being next to location of the serpent where scales don't pop up from. They really need to either make scales float or have it easier to collect
is full troll armour better than full bear armour for black forest?
I prefer the bear armor
why?
The only thing i sneak for is killing deer
so if i dont use the sneak the bear armour has better stats?
Iirc they have similar stats
how far deep into the swamp crypts spawn?
Bear is slightly better armor, but if you dont like the set bonus just wear a different helmet (troll/copper)
They can be on the edge of the swamp
Depends what you like. Bear has 1 more armor per piece, which is nice but nothing huge.
Bigger difference is that bear armor gives you health regen, stamina regen, and extra slash damage, at the cost of vulnerability to physical damage. Personally I like that, some may not
that happened again. I am curious what makes it reset...
If there's water around you better off sailing at night, real easy to spot green torches
Yea I like to just sail by and mark crypts
yeah, I seen 4 swamps from the ship and none had that... I think. well I didn't look for them before. maybe I saw 1 alone one. and many blobs on the trees
Blobs on the trees are called guck and is a mineable crafting material
whata...
but the trees are not even getting cut!
Bring some wood, put down a workbench and make a ladder and a platform, use pick to hit guck
#screenshots message my map atm. and it's not great
I thought it's just a decorations since it cannot be cut
And you can cut down the smaller swamp trees for a new wood material as well
sometimes this game feels like "guess what works" but without consistent logic
that I did
South and south east swamps most likely have some decent crypts. Also normally near bonemass location there are plenty of crypts
didn't get bonemass location yet
I guess I would once I find a runestone in the crypt...
why those?
Idk, just look like it's a big area based on relative location from the center and circumference of the shore
guys, if i start a world now without exploring the north region, and then they drop it will i be able to play it or do i have to start a new game?
Unexplored areas will be updated
shouldn't bonemass be further away from spawn then elder?
Depends
The distances are random so it won't always be further, and there are multiple spawns for each boss
I have Moder almost as close as Eikthyr
how much hp should i have when going into swamp before first crypt?
If you're using three foods made at a cauldron you'll be ok
the combination of stats doesn't matter, use what goes well with your playstyle
I am trying to understand why they break my parrys
what food are you using and what are you parrying with
buckler + sword
deer stew, carrot soup, and boar jerky or queen jam
what level is the buckler?
upgrading your blocking item is very important in early biomes
lvl3
that food and buckler is good, are the enemies starred?
sometimes they are. yep
so you're failing against unstarred enemies too?
there haven't been a single encounter in a swamp without at least one starred draugr
I don't know. didn't pay attention to that specifically
especially in later biomes parrying starred enemies can be very risky
with valheim's armor calculation you'll actually need over 50/100% more health to parry their 50/100% increased damage, and that gap increases with each biome
Better question is what's your blocking level ?
Ahh okay sounds easy thanks. Is it possible to swim back to the ship safely even in a storm?
12
that's with doing blocking/parry ever since I got first wooden shield
is it failing when you parry a single attack or only multiple in a short time
even 0 skill would be ok at this point with everything else you have
multiple.
one usually works fine.
I'd say get to level 30
30 blocking is way too high for swamps, it levels so slowly
just let the skill increase as you progress
Blocking skill increases Block armor by 0.5% per level, reaching 50% at level 100. The player gains 0.5 experience per blocked attack and 1 experience when parrying. The experience is gained even if the block or parry fails.
What is wrong with high level of blocking? I dont get it, like it's a bad thing ?
i didn't mean it like that, it's a lot to ask someone to grind for before they enter a biome
Is the idea to die more time or to level up so you are actually skilled? My running is 75 and on haven't killed Moder. People disregard the skill level like it's a nuisance
You can block and parry necks and boars
From personal experience I die much less when my skill is higher. And I don't feel like I had to grind specifically certain skill. It's like people who complain that they catch troll fish with fishing level of 10 ...
Rule of thumb is biome number times 10 but follow it as you wish, just a friendly suggestion
my blocking level is 26 in my current world, I'm in plains and I haven't died once yet
That's not your first playthrough. Skills in game vs personal skills matter
My dodge rolling is like 2 lol, cause I just rather jump out of the way or don't put my self in that situation
dodge 3 here but it didn't exist through most of this playthrough
I started it in late 2024 for bog witch and stopped playing in april until last week
but I also prefer jumping
Running and then jumping are my first skills to hit 100
Haven't been following super closely but the issue is likely either A) Bad timing or B) should eat at least 2 hp foods
are there coal ores just like the sopper ones?
Nope. In swamp there's an alternative way to get coal though
Charcoal kiln
Hammer menu
Once I mined a small part of an ore vein will the undermining method no longer work on it?
No you're fine
can you sell bones and other stuff to the bog witch or hildir for coins, or are they useless after BF?
Well. A troll just killed my two newly tamed wolves in 2 seconds
That troll confirms the ideology I live by
Why bother taming?
Idk I didn't bother till now and I'm in mistlands already
I thought it'd be nice having wolves around killing the silly greydwarves necks and whatever other nuisance in my open base
Don't like walls that much
Especially raise ground
I'll sometimes tame lox for some fun base defense/meat, and to have a mount. Haven't poked around Ashlands in too many playthroughs but I feel like the mount there sounds good too
what is it?
Sometimes you'll find a surtling pyre. Big spout of flame that never disappears. Every 5 minutes it spawns 3 surtlings, which will drop coal and surtling cores if killed.
They also die when touching water, which is pretty much everywhere in swamp. So very easy to farm those pyres especially if you find a few near each other
Just recently found out from a video that I can just roll to get the damn ticks off my back. Don't know how I didn't think of it myself lol
is it normal for my black forest to be tiny? has 2 copper deposits, and only 1 dungeon in it
Sure
Just keep exploring you'll find bigger ones'
ouu ok
π€·ββοΈ because that's a mechanic and definitely not an intentional player trap
Also, it was a 2 star boar, aka rare, aka more drops
is the frostner a good weapon for mountains, or better just stay with maxed out bow and iron arrows?
Use buckler and iron mace for golems
For drakes use draugr fang with obsidian arrows
For general mobs like wolves etc I always use Atgeir
Anyone tips on how to find infested mines?
My man, I havent got those yet lol, no silver and other stuff
ive just beaten the fat boss from swamp
and i heard atgeir is bad at mountains becasue of height difference
I find atgeir great against most mobs. Especially fast ones like wolves where you wanna jab em before they get you. And the spin attack can be really OP
In terms of height and stuff you just jump or lead them close enough or to more level ground
Sharp angled spires with large staircases and usually 3-4 seekers. Or what looks like dverger houses but when you see bugs on the roof that's your clue
using a localhost server, am added to admin list text file, can enable devcommands command but none of the individual commands themselves (nocost, fly, god)? is this possible to fix
devcommands don't work on a dedicated server only single player world, only way around is something like Server_devcommands v1.102.0 by JereKuusela Mod #mods-discussion
otherwise only things like /ban etc work
its not a dedicated server itβs a local host
ah hosted on your PC?
yeah
might still need the mod I'm not 100% sure
does the mod work with only the host having it? i play steam deck
yes for local it should, for dedicated the admin and the server needs to have it installed
and for non admins it doesn't work of course
but if its hosted on another pc not the one you play on with your char, you will also need to install it on server (it does not prevent xbox crossplay etc)
so if i want to do admin on my own account i would have to have it installed, but since iβm on steam deck i canβt
since itβs clientside based
steam deck I'm not sure really tbh sorry
is it possible that the dungeons at swamp have no corridors?
Yes
Though rare
Although in most cases there are corridors you just have to pickaxe away the stuff blocking them
which upgrade do you guys reccomend for nidhogg and the berserkir axes(im using the axes only for tree chopping). My build is just heavy armor with a buckle and weapon if that helps
Iolite, lightning nidhogg is quite good imo
Never happened to me. Do you play original Valheim or with mods?
Only four little QoL mods
Always lead with "I am playing modded: Help - <this is the issue>"
what is the best valheim dedicated server host service? (me/no one else can self host)
Best...?
#dedicated-server there isn't a best one, some might be better than others but it depends on location and needs
Just bad rng
Keep looking as iron is high in demand
In my latest playthroughs I noticed that fireplaces are usually kinda bugged. they are covered and have wood, but they still go out randomly for no reason
it's so annoying when i'm trying to rest π€¦ββοΈ
not bugged, they might be getting choked with smoke
if there is no proper chimney or the roof is super low or something else blocking smoke escaping near it
π€ hum... let me try and change it...
I've so many hours in Valheim and this still happens a lot in the beginning with my small fireplaces. The big one is always fine.
ofte when you have hearth the house is bigger, more space for the smoke to dissipate haha
True π No wonder it only happens when I still have the small/temporary base π€¦ββοΈπ€·ββοΈ
Happens to me too and depending on how bad it is I fix it or just be annoyed until I move to the bigger house haha
What is the armor on the person to the right and how do I get it?
Get to the mistlands (6th biome)
is there a way to extend the downward length of the hanging braziers?
Other than a vertical beam of some kind, there's no way to lengthen the chain in vanilla afaik
As long as you're not playing with fire hazards on it'll be fine lol I'm not sure about with fire hazards though
yeah im not but, i would rather it didnt look so unsafe
theres no way to get a fire inside this 2 floor house damn
Done, what now
What biome are you in?
this is a meadows house
You can't place campfire directly on wooden floor.
yeah, you cant put it on the water either
and this house is fully suspended in the middle of a lake
so i just went with 2 hanging braziers, before i had these i basically just roze a bit of land under the house to put a campfire there
just to make do for the moment
and i dont really like having to use swamp stuff on my meadows/dark forest house, but the game is not really giving me much of a choice rn
You need to get to a dvergr tower and find a special box to break open, it'll give you an item that you can use to get sap from roots of the world tree found in the mistlands so you can turn it into something else to use in making lots of things like that armor.
any way to check how many hours ive spent on this world
If you've only used that character in one world, you can type /stats in the chat. You should be able to find a TimeInBase and TimeOutOfBase, which are tallied in seconds I believe.
Add those up, and you should have an accurate time. π
Use the Pg Dn & Pg Up keys by the numpad.
okay thanks
No worries.
2 days and 9 hours i think
2.09:54:14
welp. today i really didnt get anything done
spent all night sailing trying to find an island then my way back
Anyone know how to change the settings of a Valheim server on Nitrado for Xbox? So confused
Luckily the game isn't race.
I just took down the elder on day.. 43 or 44 I think? He was pretty far, yes, but I definitely took some detours to scout iron bearing swamps first. The swamp next to my elder had he bog witch and 4 crypts to clear. Even found turnips too
Hey! Starred ||Fenrings|| scurrying around base. After the event started, we left for a good while, and restarted the server, before ending the event and another one insta-starting. In between, we also killed Moder (we have not killed the elder or Bonemass). Now, the fenrings refuse to despawn, even though their event ended.
EDIT: Actually adding the question. How do we make them despawn? It's the ||Hildir silver chest|| event
If the silver chest has been returned to hildir on that world it is something you will have to deal with. If it is player based raid and someone has an existing character that returned that chest on another world you could switch that setting to something else
The chest is returned on this world, but we can't kill all of the starred enemies and mini-boss. We usually wait until the event ends and they despawn, but they aren't despawning.
Sounds like you have to face your fears
I'd say just kill them
~~Don't do the crime if you can't do the time ~~
Don't kill the cultist if you can't fight off her followers
I understand your view. I suppose it's time to die a few times. o7
what is better hearth or bonefire?
hearth
the bonfire's only real advantage is it stays lit in rain
otherwise, the hearth provides more comfort and is much easier to build things 'over' that need a fire lit under--matter of fact, the bonfire so big, i've never tried to fit a cooking rack or cauldron over it, i dunno if it would work, and it would be clumsy trying to i imagine even if it did
I like to use bonfires in more "camp" style outposts, or where I want a nice big fire to be visible from some high point, and use hearths pretty much constantly as soon as I can in bases (where I'm not playing on settings that make getting a stonecutter matS THERE inconvenient)
depends on how much you get, but my first go to is usually iron buckler
56
but isnt the buckler worse that bone shield?
you can upgrade gear and if you've fully maxxed "last" biome gear it often makes "next/current" biome gear look kidna underwhelming--IMO bucklers generally better than tower shields b/c you can parry
I like to make iron pickaxe to get MORE iron faster
even if at first the armor values aren't impressive in a jump, or even a downgrade
Parry and small movement speed debuff makes bucklers much better than tower shields (bone shield) for me
my bone shield is on 1st lvl
before 3rd boss where can i get iron except from the swamp dungeons
if anything i do the opposite--the iron pick isn't strictly needed until silver, and since inventory space is most plentiful earliest is just carry multiple antler picks and use that until forced to get iron for the silver
the swamp dungeons are the main intended place really throughout the game--there's a few much later (biomes) decent sources
what about an iron axe is it worth making?
and the oozers can occasionally drop it
okay thanks
Honestly? Not really
i also skip the iron axe--but that as most of these choices is just preference--only 'required' is certain progression things, which become obvious pretty quick
sooo i should only make better gear not tools?
well certain 'tiers' (or better) are needed to mine certain mats, so at least for me which ones I "skip" or don't rush at least are dictated by that
the antler pick will work all the way through iron, a bronze axe (or better, the early axes if you can find the mats and craft them) will chop all the trees you need until the very last 2 kinds currently
there's a weird 'exception' if you want to use chitin
acutally no, never mind, i think antler works there too
alright ty
Mining anything other than dirt will be so much faster with an iron pick than the antler pick, that's why you want it asap
I think so but wasn't so persistent maybe. Probably happens because of AzuExtendedPlayerInventory
Build a platform/scaffold to reach on top so the tip is exposed?
Not arguing, just trying to figure out since I'm right at this stage ATM... If you are going to build the iron pickaxe, isn't it better to just do it first to expedite iron harvesting overall, rather than wait?
Even if you are okay with carrying 3 or however many pickaxes, wouldn't 1 iron pick and 2 antlers be better to fill up on each run?
to be fair you get most of your iron from chests but i would also make iron pick if i didnt have bronz lvl 2
bronze I could live with - that I did skip
I like the idea of bringing antler pickaxe and just repair it if you need with workbench outside or making iron asap
I plan to do that, 1 iron, 1 antler - iron gets me as far as it can, then top off with antler/repair until I am full
MATH-wise, you may be right--this is ENTIRELY vibes based for me, it just 'feels' faster to not (but also after my first playthrough, i don't feel the compulsion to build, let alone max rank, EVVVVVVERRRRRRY single new item lol)
THAT probably makes the single BIGGEST difference
Lol same here - I skipped bronze pick (and armor) just to focus on iron at the end of the swampy rainbow. Taking my sweet time doing it, so hardly a speed run, just want to minimize the amount of time/clicks mining out ron to get started
i usually make & upgrade the bronze pickaxe because the only thing that matters for muddy scrap piles is durability and sta cost. I use it for mining those even at endgame so it's a decent long-term investment imo
and 40 bronze isn't all that much really
Antler pickaxe can be convenient, you can just place a roof and a workbench outside of crypts and repair it fully on the go.
why is m character always doing extra swing after enemy died?
I am holding LMB though
Because you're holding lmb???
eh, i hate the running back and forth and an upgraded bronze pickaxe easily lasts a full crypt even if it has lots of scrap piles. If that doesn't bother you it's antler pickaxe all the way.
How much effort you consider the crafting to be is a matter of taste. Personally i rather enjoy the bronze age so i mine a couple copper nodes out anyway (with a troll to help bringing the ore back to base usually takes longer than mining it).
So crafting the pickaxe first just makes sense for me.
Yeah the bronze and iron age can be played in many different ways
I tend to do the same thing, I know I'll eventually need more copper and bronze so I mine it ahead of time while I am in it. I know I will need a ton more iron than what I use for swamp gear so I mine all of it while I am in it. I see many advantage like giving you more time for crops to grow, prepare meads and get higher skills before the next stages. I also find it more fun to do with the appropriate gear than coming back overgeared and rolling through enemies
I personally love rolling the swamp enemies in plains gear
hello, I'm new to the server, and have been playing on and off, I recently jumped back into the game and now there are bears in the black forest... im sure there was/is a discussion about then and how best to handle/defeat them and was hoping someone here could either tell me or @ me in the old discussion about it?
Fire and slash are the best options
Treat them like trolls, but slash weapon instead of spear. I was terrified at first when I restarted after years away from the game and got used to them pretty quickly. Just have to be a brave boi/gurl
Are flametal pillars more supportive than iron?
They are the same
they are relatively easy ar least for me when i have bone shield i just block the attack then 3 hits and repeat
Balls
Ah well there's my problem I've been using the ategir, I'll have to find my sword
I appreciate all the tips
I used to just kite and arrow everything but I'm trying to be brave this world and honestly I don't know why I was so scared before
Fact. Once you give up the safe play style things get a lot more fun and you realize itβs not as scary as you thought
Word. Just go fight, learn to block, dodge, bait enemy into fire, etc.
the higher you jump from the deeper you go
cant reach it but i see it sob!!!!!
Not to my knowledge
But Iβve never played around in creative with it
man i genuinelly do not know how to make this roof any more stable
practically covered in support beams and it doesnt go bellow red
Red stability isnβt necessarily bad, it wonβt collapse or anything. Just means youβre getting close to running out of stability.
yes, and thats exactly the problem
im trying to hang a brazier and it just instantly breaks
Ive run into that as well. You'll need to find a way for more stability.
theres literally no way unless i literally erect a pillar all the way from the first floor trough the second floor up to the roof where i want to put the brazier lol
this shit is covered in pillars alread
i tried replacing some of the support beams with reinforced ones and it wont even let me, reinforced ones shatter instantly even if normal ones dont
you can always try raising the ground around your closest support beam touching the ground
oh my god bruh is there any way to fully deactivate skill drain
i genuinelly just keep dying on the dumbest ways ever and i dont feel like losing a whole level because i didnt want to waste food while walking around my house and i decided to walk off from 1 meter too high
there goes a level because i was jumping around my house at 25 hp and i accidentally collided with a brazier
This is the argument for feasts.
?
sorry, was in the other chat. When you're running around your base doing stuff, eat feasts so you don't have to think about food.
ITs not a "level", its a percentage of your skill points off of every single skill. Which is why I hate dying. Unfortunately we can only lower it to the 1% setting in world settings.
so the solution for me not wanting to waste food on messing around in my base is... waste even more expensive to make food?
It's far cheaper for the duration than any other food source.
I don't consider the foods expensive in comparison to my skills. So food is a price I happily pay to not die just hanging out in my base. Besides, once you get along far enough, foods good for staying alive in your base become even easier to gather and keep in inventory. Well, its how it works for me, anyways. Maybe my 5000+ hours of experience has just made me really good at hoarding. π
no dev commands for lowering the skill loss to 0?
I know there are commands to give yourself skill points. I have not seen mention of such a setting.
i genuinelly do not mind losing skill points when i die on combat or exploring, thats deserved, but in my base its just, ugh
I hate it period, but when its due to my being stupid, or careless, that is the worst.
I've reached the inside of a charred fortress, where the green light and bell fragments are. I dropped down through the spikes at the top, and I cant get out. I didn't use a battering ram to break open the door, and I don't have enough wood on me to build out. I have a pickaxe though. Can I break the stone structure? Or dig myself out through the ground? If not then I'm kinda screwed here.
yes you can dig yourself out if pickaxe strong enough and enough durability, also can log out, go to different world, get some wood and build up
I usually dig under the wall to get in there, so you can definitely dig out.
Do I dig underneath the wall, through the ground itself? Or can I break the actual structure, like the brick walls of the fortress
The ground. I think the wall is impervious.
K, thanks
can break actual structure but I m not sure if you can only do it at the very bottom or any place with bm pickaxe, check if you see damage numbers
I see damage numbers when I try breaking the walls. It doesn't matter though, I just dug through the ground and now I'm out
the outer walls are but you can break the walls of the inner tower with the black metal pickaxe
Either way, I never wanted to break the gates or the walls. So I've always just gone over the outer walls, and under that inner wall.
so nice of all these sea snakes to willingly follow me into the shore
i got a trophy and i havent even crafted the harpoon yet
2 now lmao
what a seed man
I want their shiny scales. But they don't follow me u.u And playing alone it's difficult to harpoon and control the boat at the same time.
you need to be lucky with the wind i guess
as long as the wind keeps pushing you towards the shore you just harpoon them and just wait till you crash
yeah...
they surprisingly dont ask for much stamina when harpooning
i haven't harpooned one in a while, but I had the idea that I actually used a lot of stamina π€ maybe it changed. or maybe I had bad foods last time.
it takes a lot of stamina if you're pulling something heavy against the direction it wants to go
since serpents want to follow you anyway that's not really an issue until you actually get them on land
um i found a second haldor, is that normal?
i thought the rest despawned when you found one
oh nvm im stupid thats my haldor
stupid af fr
i see... makes sense π
cant i adopt them?
they clearly want to be with me... sea serpent mount...
And then Bonemaw for the Ashlands sea π
I'd love a pet Serpent/Bonemaw
whats a bonemaw+
something from the 7th biome
i have not been there +
don't need to know it before you go there, it shall be a surprise haha
Look forward to it π
Exactly haha
Anyone know how to prevent the chat window from displaying while emoting for a screenshot on PC after Ctrl+F3?
The rest of the UI disappears as expected, but the chat window still shows up.
Have you tried new emote wheel? Press T and scroll through for right emote.
anyone got some spare rocks that they want to get rid of?
so I guess game doesn't even exaplain what's TWIG?
what the hell is TWIG? what does it stand for?
Training with Iron Gate (maybe, it could mean anything haha)
its a training dummy
When Deep North will be released, current world with north not discovered will fit new update or new one will be needed?
As long as you havenβt touched the deep north it should update
I might be wrong though
the range you "load" is much bigger than what you see uncovered from "fog of war" on the map, but if you stay far away it will update everything perfectly, thats whats happened with the last biome update of ashlands etc, so probably the same again
I burned myself out about a year ago trying to make a village style base, any big brain builders out here?
FWIW i went to Ashlands before the Ashlands update for my fishing hat and everything was fine. The affected terrain looks a little weird and empty compared to the rest of Ashlands (basically just ground and lava now) but it wasn't a huge problem. Just don't explore half the middle continent or something like that.
you were right.
one in the south-most one had a couple pretty close to shore (not visible from it though)
Plenty of good builds in #building-screenshots if you're looking for inspiration
If you're looking for someone to build with you could try making a post in #1024264966712340510
I will give that a try, thank you
so, what's up with dodge? does itjsut move you, slower then running, in a set trajectory, you cannot change, while using up stamina (aka worse then running)
or does it actually give you invulnerability?
It gives you i-frames.
It has I frames and you can pick the direction to move to using WASD
I just got caught up on a distant forepost when trolls came and I didn't have any meals on me since I was just constructing and I was apparently dodging their blows for quie a while until somehow got 2 club hits and I don't get why
can I change it while it happens? if no then that's exactly what I meant
No, once you committed to jumping to roll in a certain direction you cannot change it mid jump, it would look wonky and make no sense
You're not invulnerable for the entire duration of the roll, but the invulnerability does last 0.25 seconds I think
0.56
That's a long time
Yes, but youβre locked into the animation and movement for even longer
Parrying is 0.25s
When does the invincibility window on dodge start? Is it immediately when you dodge you get invincibility and then it wears off before the dodge is complete?
It starts when the animation begins and stamina is spent
And the animation is longer than the invincibility as I mentioned above
Hello!
I recently rented a Valheim server, and I need some help to modify it
Would it be possible to get some assistance from any of you?
Folks in #dedicated-server probably would be able to help.
Glad it worked out, hopefully it's not an empty ones but based on the area you should get some decent iron
I found 20 iron in the first chest without even digging
in total first crypt got me 50ish
no, wait, I thnk I still ahve one of first 3 doorway to explore tehre
Iron chests are the best, like xmas presents
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PROGRESS FROM SWAMP?
Kill the boss, use the boss drop to get the next metal
is there just the hat and tunic for base item -stam?
go to mountain. farm silver. kill dragon.
where do i find the silver?
use the boss drop
Silver is much harder to find than previous metals
Underground on top of mountains, if you have a wishbone already from beating bonemass make sure it's activated, and if you see obsidian (black wonky square rocks) you're almost to the right height to find silver, if any is nearby the wishbone will pulse and make a chime sound that will increase in tempo as you get closer to the silver vein
best food combo for swamp? no serpent stew please that food is diabolical to obtain.
Depends on your play style I guess. Sausage is best health food, turnip stew best for stamina.
Youβll have access to the swamp dwellers delight feast if youβve found the witch. Next is muckshake for stam and deer stew for health I think
i didnt unlock a recipe for something to craft for cauldron level 2. what do i need in order to craft the upgrade?
Cauldron upgrade needs mushrooms, thistle, turnip, dandelion and carrots I think.
You nailed it
Youβll need a prep table to craft the feast, along with the herbs and a serving platter from the Bog Witch
Get the next answer, aka, look for yellow flowers in the swamp lock and loaded
and yes these are rare
Are you answering questions before theyβre asked now?
all you need is 1 π€
Well I went through this once or twice before
sometimes one is too many
All you need is love β€οΈ- John Lennon
all i need is more iron
All you need is bees. - Oprah
are feasts worth making?
They definitely are
which? or are they all good
i'm at the mistlands now so ive unlocked all of them up to plains pie picnic
usually i just eat 2 food items and 1 stam so idk what id sub out for it
My go to food setup during and after plains is HSF.
alright, ill look around a bit and change some stuff up. thanks
Sausage, queen jam, and another decent health food
two stamina can be good too
But also, use serpent stew lmao, it's so worth it
Highly weapon dependent
are there any other fellow IT/cybersecurity professionals in here, Im at my wits end with this game, i need serious help
Server help channel?
its not server related, its the game as a whole
I flunked out of comp sci in year two is that good enough?
ive done literally everything i can possibly think of to fix this and my game keeps crashing
Are you using linux
reinstalling, switching drives, verifying files, changing compatibility mode, changing windows security settings
and no, windows
it happens on and off servers, and its a unity error message that appears before the crash
I wish I could help, but you sound smart enough to have tried whatever I suggest, like reinstalling unity
what gear should I have while getting into mistlands
Plains armor and a maxed plains weapon
you cant, its packaged in thye game files
ive completely wiped all trace of valheim on all 3 of my drives and CLEAN installed it and it still crashes. all drivers updated. i even rebuilt my pc with a different GPU and ram
some ppl reccomend the root set for piercing resistance
no other game does this, and i cant find anyone to help with it, im losing my mind lol
Rule of thumb is use the last tiers armor unless you're good at the game
aight thanks
Those people want to skip farming for plains gear, like, it's doable
you don't need the set, just the harnesk
Personally, i say High risk high reward with the vile set
Aka no risk all reward as long as bonemass is up
what ab the weapon is a frostner good?
yes a frostner is good, you want elemental damage for seekers. For seeker soldiers and dverger a black metal weapon will be a little better but frostner is good enough
are you launching with vulkan?
I canβt crouch on Xbox anymore. I think it started after I play valhaim on pc with Xbox play anywhere. Any ideas on how to fix it?
The latest update caused a bug so you need to hold the crouch button for a short time
but only if youre using a controller
Ok thanks
My shaders are bassicly gone my games looks very diffrent from my friends even if i have the same or higher graphics as them
i have tried with and without vulkan.
What to do against stone golems when they attack with one or two arms above their hands? Cant seem to parry or block those. And when i try to jump it hits me mid air...
I parry the 1 hand one, the 2 handed one I just dodge because it isn't worth parrying since it stagger it very little time
Jump on its head and mine it, it's a rock after all
Dodge
can i have 2 potion effects at the same time
and more
hey all, can someone play with me? I just got to the Swamp and I barely know what I'm doing despite reading up on it. That abomination thing scares the bukeperries out of me and I cannot find: turnips or crypts.
sure i can help
Can help as well later today! Like 8 hours from now
Hey boys - If I manually installed a few mods back in 2025 and want to come back to the game - Do I need to manually update each and single one too?
You'll probably find a better answer in #mods-discussion but since the game recently updated a couple weeks ago your mods might still be outdated if they haven't been updated by the modders
sometimes, my character is just standing still despite all my input to move somewhere
and I know that's not due to stamina because on death screen I see there's still some (above 20)
After you die and go pick up your stuff, you get a small carrying bonus for a short time. If that bonus ends and you are carrying too much, it can encumber you by surprise
nope, never died right after skeleton run
Hmm. Well that's the only time that's ever happened to me
Apart from getting stuck in rock gaps and stuff
Maybe hardware? Inputs glitching?
I would assume so, keko has reported some pretty unique things happening in their game before. Like always getting an additional swing after an enemy dies.
Dodge roll
How do you toggle on an Xbox controller the two different ways to level ground?
Depending on your controller setup (i use controller 2 in settings) it's left trigger right stick, but i think it's left bumper right stick on default
Because one way levels based on your footing (right trigger) and the other levels at another way, right?
One way levels the ground where you're looking to the height you're standing, the other way levels to the ground where you're looking, it uses the same button to level in both ways, but you have to activate the alternate function first
How do you alternate functions?
I would assume the easiest way is to level the ground where youβre looking at right? I feel like I shouldnβt be struggling this much. Iβm leveling ground, but here I am.
@signal stag like this
The easiest way is honestly the default way imo, if you're trying to level large areas
If you wanna make a more smooth sloping pathways, the alternate function is better for that but it takes some getting used to doing it. I like to start at the top of the hill i want to make the path down from and every 2 or 3 steps looking at the ground under me hit the level button and when i get to the bottom of where i want the slope to end i switch back to the default function.
I have 60 iron and lvl3 forge and lvl3 bronze set of armor and weapons
what would be a good way to spend that iron?
spending all 60 to get first iron armor set for just 6 more armor doesn't seem like a good spend
just like getting +8 dmg on weapons
Iβd recommend making some nails! Thereβs something pretty useful you get from them.
Getting the pickaxe isnβt a bad. I would recommend at least one new weapon. If youβre really into upgrading your base, you could make some new chests.
Stonecutter is a good choice as well.
already made throne armor stand and longboat, before writing and counting
Just looking to level an area for a building
Shield and weapon of choice, mace hits hard against blobs and do well against other enemies too, except abominations. If enemies hit hard crafting helmet is not bad idea either.
Quick stonecutter to craft grinding wheel for next forge update also.
can i display trophies?
would +2 armor even do anything?
On item stand you can.
What armor are you using?
bronze lvl3
as I wrote, getting iron only gives me +2 for each
if you get the iron to level 3 too it will be +6 each
Don't waste your iron, you can handle anything the swamp throws at you in root armor
personally i'd suggest the 100 nails for a longboat, the pickaxe and a banded shield
you can skip the other upgrades for the silver stuff in the mountains
the iron mace MAY be worth it since it's very useful in the mountains too but if you already have an upgraded bronze one i wouldn't bother
uhuh, and how much iron I need for that? I don't know.
but I know for sure that crafting full iron set will aready use all 60 iron I have
giving me just +6 armor which seems like a waste tbh
+18
great, if only I had root armor
it's not hard to get
you can kill abominations easily in troll armor with a bone tower shield and BF tier hp food
until then your bronze will serve you well enough
math
no, I said it correctly
+6 for lvl1 iron comapred to lvl3 bronze
sorry I thought you meant level 3
as I said, I only have 60 iron
Iirc 5 -> 10 -> 15 iron at quality 2 -> 3 -> 4.
already have longboat, 60 iron is after that
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Iron_Armor
20 iron per lvl 1 of each
you already have all the crafting station upgrades that need iron too?
Yeah, and 20 for each armor piece to craft.
didn't build any upgrades.
All I spent iron on is longboat, throne and armor stand.
did craft hearth though, but stone cutter can be dismantled
The 2 of them that require iron can wait IMO, you can craft 2 others that don't require iron first.
you'll want at least forge level 4 to max out your banded shield ASAP (if you use shields that is). You can dismantle the upgrade after though since repairing needs less
but in your situation i'd go for shield & pickaxe and just save the rest
silver is just around the corner, less of a pain to gather and the gear will last you MUCH longer
Then yeh just use the default leveling, if you run into a hump in the dirt use a pickaxe to knock it down and then switch back to hoe to level it up, if you find a dip or divet in the ground use the menu to switch to raise land and bump it up once and then switch it back to leveling and relevel it
banded shield?..
I didn't craft it
also, don't really get why there are 3 shields
buckler blocks less damage but parrys more than banded shield, tower shield blocks even more but can't parry
lvl3 bronze pickaxe is better then lvl1 iron
I didn't meet any ore that wouldn't fall from bronze one
you need the iron pickaxe for silver and obsidian
I see... didn't go to mountains despite having codl res potion.
isn't plains next? I actually met plains before first swamp and it was alright in 1v1 but groups defiintely can overwhelm and quitos are hurt tooo much
mountain comes after plains
er
other way. excuse my brainfart. First mountain, then plains
dang, my luck...
would I need fishing prep station? I ahve some fish that ended up on my shore after storms
tbf I didn't meet bonemass spawn yet
How to practise without dying lol
No way around it as different enemies will have vastly different experiences
So its best to just trying facing head on and practicing that way
Enable devcommands (cheats) and make yourself unkillable
Or use heavy armor, health food, health potions, and potentially lower the difficulty
is there an easy way to farm stats
HI there... do certain foods tame boars faster? I know they like mushrooms, but if I throw carrots in there is that better?
They're either fed or hungry, the specific food doesn't matter for anything
There used to be some guides on YouTube, not sure how relevant they are these days. But there is a training dummy called T.W.I.G you can build to train weapons and blocking with. Literally run everywhere and jump over everything to train those.
Thanks... So, now I've tamed the bugger... I pet it and it doesn't follow anymore? or is there some new mechanic to do that
No mechanic to have them follow you no
Later in the game you can unlock a ||harpoon|| which helps a bit with moving them around (Basically used as a lead)
oh that sucks... I remember a long while back that when you pet them they'd follow you (always a pain when you forget )
Thanks
I think tamed wolves do, but other animals don't
I don't play much with tames myself tho
thanks
I died yesterday while using mods (extended inventory and planteverything), but when i picked it up today and launched the vanilla game, it didnt give back my armour (all lv4 iron), my medjingjord and a lot of loot was missing... Can i get it back some way?
Also my wishbone.. π
do i have to be close to my boars for them to tame
Yes, within 64 m
thanks
also why did i not unlock a stone oven even tho i have all necesary items?
Probably something you overlooked π
Do you have an artisan table?
oh... probably that
My friend says he has an incompatable game version, were on xbox. and i just downloaded the game
he says he is playing 0.221.4.0
i am playing 0.221.10
As i just installed it shouldn't i be up to date?
Yours is current. Your friend, ask them if they joined the PTB in the insider hub app, and if so then they need to opt out of the PTB in the insider hub app and then restart their xbox. If it doesn't automatically update then just click the game and it should pop up with the update.
In a chicken enclosure inside base do i need to drop seeds in stacks of 1 or i can throw the whole 100 stack and that'll last for eternity?
They will eat from stacks, but keep in mind that there is a limit on how many chckens/hens there can be in one area, and when it is reached they will not breed anymore but still eat the seeds
Then that is perfect in all scenarios, many thanks!
What should I do after I beat the first boss should I work on getting a smelter for copper?
yes
ok thnx
I recently bought Valheim on the Apple App Store and Iβm wondering how do I get mods & will they work if I start a world up as a Server?
I have not found anything on mods for the apple App Store Valheim?
I am making my first greydwarf spawner wood farm. I made sure all the ground was covered, and I built on top of the spawner so I could use the space without spawner branches being in the way. I then raised the portion of the ground meant to be my killbox next to it, uncovered so it is just dirt. When I killed all my greydwarfs trapped in the pit nearby, nothing is spawning from the spawner at all anymore. Help?
I have a photo but it appears I cannot send it here
Never made a greydwarf spawner, but i think they get disabled if they donβt have sky access
You need to leave space above the spawner without a roof.
@marble roost @thorn spire I made sure to leave a hole above the killbox which is within the spawner area. I raised the ground above the spawner... does that count as a roof? I'm trying to hide the spawner itself and get the greydwarves to spawn above it
yeah, that might count.
the hole needs to be directly above the centre of the nest.
put your screenshot in #screenshots
sent π
I think the stone wall directly in front of you is the problem. Any way to move it back (left in this image) 1-2m?
stone structures counts as a roof.
I got rid of it entirely for testing purposes so there is no wall between the raised killbox and the spawner nothing is spawning. for some reason it seems that greydwarves can spawn below a spawner but not above, though I hope that's not the case
Stone and Black Marble "floor" slabs counting as roofing is one of the better features in building options tbh.
Hello Guys,
I would like to ask about the rules for Building of the month.
Are dev commands allowed to use? like can i spawn some rocks via command line a build castle on top of them?
For example:
spawn rock4_forest 1
Is mod GIZMO allowed to be used?
Thank you
At least no mods, not 100% sure about console commands.
Dev commands are fine iirc. Also it's a screenshot contest. As long as it LOOKS like it was done in vanilla you'll be fine (because it's not like anyone can tell either way).
Gizmo might be a problem though because it lets you rotate pieces at angles that aren't possible without it.
are different fish only used to make the same raw fish of different quantity for the same mediocre food of grilled fish?
some specific fish types are used in mead and food recipes
and you need every fish to make the fishing hat
I just got access o fishing prep and it feels underwhelming atm
whats the best trinket for fighting fader as melee
i vote iron brooch
Iron brooch doesn't seem that good
anyone willing to farm ashlands with me
Hello guys. Did anyone have problem like this: My friend hosts dedicated server, but it already happened 2 times where I got kicked after 15-30min after he (the host) leaves the game.
Folks in #dedicated-server might be able to help with this π
I wonder when I will need to switch from bronze axe to iron or whatever is next
Resounding shackle is nice if you use slash weapons.
But can't go wrong with Iron brooch/Bronze pendant/any else you like.
Probably not until you need the Black Metal Axe for the mistlands lol
No real reason to upgrade to iron other than damage
thx
good, will make second bronze axe for my buddy
I know people don't like it for having slow attacks
but everyone needs an axe, and it's most authentic
It is what i started playing with π + it doubles as weapon and tool, so you save a slot
Yea, it's a good all-rounder
Battleaxe.

naaaah, that's some kind of myth, right?
They are quite fun to play with π you just have to get used to them a little
I mean, axe as a weapon is meh
but it can cut
and that battle axe, except for having longer blade age, is pretty much standard woodcutting axe with long handle
I've never went with a 2 handed axe, maybe ill try it on my current playthrough. I just hit mountains so could get crystal battleaxe
Oh it is quite a bit more optimized for combat than 1-h axe π you just use the secondary attack as your primary with them
Battleaxe has no multitarget penalty so it's great against groups of enemies. Plus its attacks have higher stagger multiplier so it will stagger smaller enemies for sure and bigger enemies easier than most other weapons.
Hmm okay interesting! I will give the crystal battleaxe a go
I usually use the frostner, should I make that too or just go with the battleaxe?
You can if you want to, i usually carry only one melee weapon tho, more seem a bit pointless imho
They pair well, Fang spear is also good option as it's super cheap to craft.
Yeah, otherwise they'd take room from cultivator/hoe/else tools.
Exactly!
Thanks, I'll try out the battleaxe when I'm done with work then and see how it goes!
I remember seeing the crystal battleaxe replica they made for a giveaway or something in the past and I wanted it so bad π
nvm u can get it on the store for.... $975
-# Sold out
absolute madmen buying that
Hehe, did you see the mistwalker? π
yeaaa
I have some older clips with battleaxes if you want to check:
#memes-and-clips message

Damn it looks like a beast, thanks, now im excited to make it!
Joel is our resident battleaxe mania... I mean enjoyer xD
You'd know if you had read the old Finn tale of Lalli, who killed bishop Henrik with an axe at KΓΆyliΓΆnjΓ€rvi lake in 1100s (alledgedly).
Does the poison effect from the draugr fang stack with poison arrows?
They stack to each other, so they deal total higher poison damage.
Since when?
I guess I'm thinking of resistance
So i guess my question is, is it better to use poison arrows or obsidian with this bow? I am thinking poison just wanted to hear the consensus
Bores aren't breeding.
Did you feed them? If they aren't close enough to each other they won't breed, sometimes you gotta push them next to each other if they're not doing it themselves
You might be thinking of poison dmg from 2 different hits, those would not stack and the second would just refresh the timer π
Indeed, i did some reading up on it after seeing what Joel said
anybody able to help with ashlands resource gathering?
baby pig was stuck in one of them i moved one opend the wall even than mama pig flew away at mach fuck
I found a || Charred Fortress in Ashlands ||. I got in by building stairs. Now I know there is a ||ram and a catapult||. There is a tower in the middle. Can I get in there using the aforementioned?
Indeed you can π the ||ram|| will probably be easiest to use for that
Awesome, thanks. Another quick question. I found 2 ||Iolites||. Which item(s) do you think it's worth crafting with it? I use ||Mistwalker|| already and pretty happy with it.
You can keep using mistwalker with no problem in ashlands really π
But if you want to use ashlands tier weapons then swords would seem like an obvious choice since you are already using them
I can also recommend to make a bow with it, or crossbow, depending on what you are using or if you want to try something new π
that's the thing... i just made ||Ash Fang||
But maybe crossbow then, since I heard they are pretty good
You need the base one to use the ||iolite|| anyway π
ooh, that is right - so my current bow will be upgraded?
Yep, but if you want the new version using the ||gem|| then dont upgrade the base one, it will otherwise revert the upgrades already done to it.
ouch.. i upgraded it to tier 2
are there any benefits to upgrading normal weapons VS making tier 1 and using a gem?
You lose any normal upgrades when you use the gem.
The base version can have potentially more durability since you can upgrade it to one level higher than gem versions, but the enchanted versions do have some nice speciall effects that have a certain chance to trigger π
a bit disapponting mechanic, imo
agreed, though I think I understand why they did it.
For a new player that doesn't know any better, upgrading your weapon normally and then finding out, that you could have used a gem to make it better and you wasted mats upgrading it normally (which never happened before in this game until now)
