#valheim-chat

Its been at least a year or two since I started a new world, but it was odd that after having mined practically all the tin in this black forest area, and all but a couple of the copper nodes, I dont think I even have enough to spawn the elder but I have full troll gear, all upgraded bronze, etc
And the regular grey dwarves seem to spawn in pairs at set intervals, but not the brutes or shamans
you literally haven't mentioned anything out of "normal valheim behavior"
like. some people take 30+ times to drop 1 5% drop-chance trophy
some get 3 within the first 10 monsters they kill
O!ptb
Please keep Public test spoilers in the #valheim-public-test channel and feedback in the #call-to-arms-update-feedback-only.
To gain access to the public test, you go to id:customize and click the Public-test role
Any reason I have to get SO CLOSE to a work bench to use it, but i can interact with chests at the same distance?
do perfect blocks block more damage than just holding up your shield waiting to get hit?
Can someone point me to the right channel to find xbox community servers ? Ty
you can certainly try in #1024264966712340510. That's the best place to find a game.
guys i saw some update 'call the arms', would it worth to play it again?
Depends who ask, honestly. As a Valheim enjoyer, I would say yeah. Canβt really talk about spoilers here, as the update is still in public testing. But itβs really cool!
it was all black in update page on steam right after i just saw 'adrenalin' ive closed it to not get any spo xD
ive finished it 3 months ago, and i think valh is a game that like a minecraft, u cannot play it everytime. its like a seasonal game for me (unless theres a huge update)
I feel like Valheim could have some more ship variety in vanilla. We have small karve, large longship, and massive drakkar, but nothing that's actually specialized for speed or that handles in any unique or novel way.
Something that sacrifices cargo hold and health for the fastest speed. Or something else.
Yes
Good evening. Im doing a solo play through but using my character from last time I played. I have some gear Id like to repair but I dont have the req's to do it myself yet. Any chance anyone would mind allowing me to hop in their server for a quick repair?
Allow commands and use nocost to repair
Perhaps someone in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 might.
Awesome! thank you, that worked. Quick question: Is there a command that allows you to port with metals?
No but there is a world modifier that lets you
oh cool, what one is that?
Portal should be all the way left i believe in modifiers before you log into ur world
thanks, you're the best!
Np Goodluck
Ahh finally a 2 star Asksvin.. took a while
Nice! got it tamed yet?
Taming now
Panicked for a bit because I didn't have any smoke puffs, forgot they'll eat fiddleheads as well
also had a hell of a train on me while bringing him to the pit including a valk and a morgen so took a bit to get settled, got him in and taming about 1 min before dawn
Is there a minimum distance from center for starred boars to spawn?
Yes, but I donβt remember exactly how far π€
I see
Do note that boars spawned at runestones may be starred!
I saw a 2 star a bit far north from where i was but it was near mountains and 1 wolf murdered it π
day 2 of sending a message until nothingknoo responds
nothingknoo ?
yup i dont wanna mention him tho
well. the chance of him randomly glancing in this chat is quite minimal
yeah
so please don't "daily spam" someones name
if you look on his profile. he seems to have a studio. send a email or something π€
rreal
with the call to arms update, do i have to create a new character/new world?
Do you all take your bases down when yourβre ready to move on so you can reuse the materials?
I never bother
Nope
I donβt plan to either
I like the accomplishment of leaving the structures intact
Yes, existing worlds will be updated as soon as you start them with the update installed
thx!
The starting base I will sometimes if it is close by enough to merit it. For example, build a base day 1 or 2 but it is small and then move it closer to Black Forest when the forest is located. Most of the time I will build near the shores so I can sail easier
In addition to the above, you can locate your base near the Black Forest then gather Core Wood and then tear your base down or build right next to it using Core Wood beams
@rare phoenix pc crash
My turn on the hubris train. I think I have enough iron finally
nice joke β€οΈ
have you ever thought about building a bridge in the game?
Now I'm afraid to lol
How much iron do you have?
Little short of 3 wood chests after making gear out of some
Haha no embed perms
Ooof
Yeah, big server, makes sense
Well, I was hoping since I'm living in wood boxes with no sense of aesthetics maaaaaaybe I'd need less lol
Fine, 4 reinforced chests is enough
But I can already hear the sound of scrap piles when I close my eyes....
Do we happen to have any idea when current patch on test server will go live?
Oh I asked the same a bit ago! TL;DR not yet
I dunno how rare this is, but on my no-portals run I feel pretty fortunate to have Hildir and the swamp witch spawning within sight of each other... #screenshots message
Ngl i got 2 solo worlds and play on 1 co op world and bog witch hildir and haldor are all near each other for sum rzn
This swamp is absolutely littered with crypts too, I might get most of my iron needs from this one place, can't believe my luck in that case.
For the hildir chests, do you only get raids if you return? picking them up and taking them home/keeping wont trigger a raid right?
Correct
I see, and what do you get from returning the chests? is there anythign inside that you can use before returning
You unlock stuff you can buy from her. Mostly cosmetics, nothing really useful
I see, so the new cosmetics only come by returning the chests and that means the horrible raids?
The clothes do give a nice stamina use buff for farming though, they are very useful if you have big fields
Yes. Only raid that is dangerous is the one triggered if you return the chest from the plains tower. Depending on how you have set up your defences, they can cause quite some damage
Me, I have my base in a mountains/black forest/meadows crossroads, so most raids fall apart from all the mobs chasing wildlife for the duration. Last time I had "they were bros" I never even saw the boss, found lots of loot lying around in the forest though, so they had their fun
I see, thx
Drakes raids making me regret having an open second floor
Smart man π
I just tested the trollstav in the middle of my base because I didn't know what it did

Well, I assume you do know now.
Hope you enjoy (re)building?
I actually managed to shove it off the edge of my base since its built into the sea a bit and it got stuck, so damage was minimal
I dont even have it in my hotbar whilst at home lol
At least the meteor didnβt destroy everything π
#screenshots message
@wide scroll that's amazing, how's your game handling it being close to that area?
How come the Swamp Dweller's feast has the same stats as the Meadows and Black Forest one? It's a pretty blatant waste of mats as is.
Should have at least 40/40 to not give a worse stat total than any swamp food's H+S combined.
I make it for decoration, but other than that not much reason to exist really π
I eat those 3 when doing stuff in base. Building, garden etc
Working like a charm
Yeah the long duration makes feasts good base loitering foods. It's just the stats given by the swamp feast specifically that makes spending mats on it not very rewarding.
To me, those 3 at the same time are very rewarding.
Derleth is talking about the swamp one in particular
Point is the sausages and turnips used to cook it would last longer if eaten straight
I'm just meaning it could use a slight stat buff to make swamp tier at least a little bit better than meadows π
Those feasts look hella delicious btw
it's actually more smooth than I thought it would be. only some small frame drop.
the scythe and farm skill is saving me so much time in this challenge. I wish planting didn't take stamina tho and would plant faster π
i love how this game rewards patience sometimes, i was looking for turnip seeds in the swamp so i can build the level 2 cooking station and I found the first seeds and instead of portaling home and planting them, I stayed and kept exploring the swamp, now i have 18 seeds and am returning back to portal to plant, sometimes a little patience works
If you're doing a playthrough where you're only allowing yourself to use a single, randomly generated weapon type, and you get a weapon that's not present in the meadows, how would work with that? For example if you draw polearms or swords.
yo does anyone have a character name idea
Just roll from all the weapons you can get in meadows and use taht untill you can get the weapon type you rolled for before
Ohh I see, that works. Thanks
Is there a way to keep my server running without renting a server and without making it dedicated and for the game to also not take up so much of my CPU ?
try asking in #1024264966712340510
@crisp harness #dedicated-server is the best place for help with that.
Got some knowledgeable folks over there
thanks, forgot about that one.
Thanks guys but I gave up. Every time everyone tells me it's easy etc. etc. and I even found an easy to follow tutorial, did everything 1-1 but it still doesn't work. I guess I'll just leave it open for my friends to play while I play a different game and hope it doesn't break my PC
haha
Hey, is anyone in the VC rn streaming the new playtest thingy?
if so i'd love to join and watch π
Not currently, no, they would/should be in the lower voice channels in public test section π
What is the easiest way to find Moder without looking at the seed in a map viewer?
I feel like I've searched everywhere
Look through the stone towers in mountains, they can have vegvisirs, also frost caves can have them
Idk but I think Chicken McJesus is pretty damn good
on top of what he said, it is really not uncommon to stumble on a Moder altar before you find the vesvigir
Yea, I feel like I've found the correct biome area, but have just ran right past it by now lol. I've explored like 12-13 different mountain biomes at this point lol.
I refuse to look at the seed map. Trying to finally finish this game as I've owned it since release and never kept a world around long enough. This time tho... it will be done.
wow thats a lot
I went straight to a howling cliffs mountain and instantly found the marker for moder, was nice
try going up to a really high vantage point on the mountain and look around, generally if you can mine silver or if you see drakes up top, the biome will possibly have a Moder altar. There are 2-3 Moder altars per seed i believe, someone can correct me if i'm wrong
okay cool -- thanks for the tips! π
3 is correct π
I like that I can burn down a forest for coal in the ashlands
Thats kinda waste of ashwood
theres so much of it though
But finite π you can do the same if you turn on the fire spread modifier with normal forest π
Or better yet, with wood piles
oh huh
Valheim knows me too well. Every time I go "Ok, I'm all set for the boss, I'll do it tomorrow morning - its a rainy day π
http://valheim.kirilloid.ru/weather#1 Here you have a forecast π
no way, it based on the real life clock?
The weather is predetermined for each day, every world has the same π
or the ingame clock I should say, all weather is predetermined
wow
What should I eat for the elder?
The best food you have.
I have carrot soup, deer stew, minced meat sauce, beef jerkey, and queens jam
Deer stew, carrot soup, and either queen jam or minced meat sauce are the best availible in black forest π
Then depends on you, either HHS or HSS diet is good
These are the best food you can have in the BF: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Food#Black_Forest
wonders why Asatru, Linker of Wiki didn't come up with that page
ok but why is my axe on -1 durability
sure
Wow he was so much easier than I remember
I found a marker for the spawn! π
where did you find it?
Moving from troll hide to full iron armor makes me feel like a snail π
That's odd.
Because with all that extra armor you should feel like a turtle instead.
My go-to method is to take whatever I think is cool for the moment and smack it into google translate to Icelandish. Nearly guaranteed viking vibes whatever you get...
i mean yeah I just face tank things and kill them now which is much more satisfying than having to dodge around and hide behind trees
You do know there's some sort of "medium" armor available in the Swamp?
Of which two pieces are very useful in that place.
I just got into the swamp so really all i have are troll and iron atm
Any tips on finding Elder in a world without a map?
The vaegvisir stones will show you the direction
Hey, I have a question. I'm playing on a server with friends, but I logged into my private server for a moment to check some commands and accidentally fixed my items with cheats. Will I lose those items when I return to the server if the server has anti-cheat enabled?
I believe thats a mod right? I would try asking in #mods-discussion , folks there know a lot more about those π
what do you mean in a world without a map? Do you have both the minimap and the ability to press M to show the map disabled?
You can find Vegvisirs in stone tower ruins and burial chambers in the black Forest. When you click at the vegvisir you should face for a brief moment into the direction the altar is.
But I've never tested it myself, so not sure how it works in a dungeon. So a tower might be a better chance for you.
I speak Spanish and use a translator, sorry if I write something that is not correct, my Valheim world is hardcore, and disables the map for greater difficulty, so I am learning how to find the altars.
@pliant hatchTank you}
oh i've never played hardcore so I didn't know it disabled the map. I'd assume you basically just have to search everywhere by foot until you find the 4 pillars and the offering bowl
Haha the witch's animated broom will sweep you out of the hut if you stand idle too long
Yeah Kvastur loves to do stuff like that xD
What does the save option do?
Saves the game
What aspect of the game? Also is it mandated to do before logging off?
Your progress basically, the state of the world that it is currently in, and while it is not mandatory, it can happen that the world will not save properly with just exiting
Allows you to have the saving process (and accompanying lag) whenever you want rather than while in deadly combat π
if you didnβt know, if you sit still after clicking the boss marker it will point your camera at the boss. use your hammer and rotate a fence wall to point that direction to sort of save the direction. when you exit the crypt just run that direction until you find it or find water. if water, make a fence on the shore pointing the way to go, get your boat and sail to that place on the shore, point your boat the right way and sail across the ocean. repeat until you find it. not a bad idea to occasionally pop in a dungeon to find another marker and correct your fence direction or check you didnt screw up. making markers and/or fires along the way and looking at the great tree to know roughly where youβre going is a big plus.
Oh, does saving manually reset the autosave timer? Going to make use of that!
I haven't played in months... and it shows. I found a dungeon whose entrance is in a mountain biome, and forgot I can't just go in the snow wearing leather armour and with no mead. Had enough HP to survive, but it was a good reminder.
Yo anyone wants to duo?
If looking for company, look no further than https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
I feel like Iβm spending too much time moving items around between chests. And figuring out where to offload my stuff before going out to collect more
How does the game feel with multiple people? I've only ever been alone
i just watched a 1 star fuling and a Fenring beat each other to death, the Fenring beat the Fuling then i killed the Fenring
With friends, even more fun than solo. With randoms, I would never play.
Anyone have any idea on when the new update comes out of PTB? The next season of the servers I play on starts Friday. Was hoping it would be live by then.
Is there a patch coming, why is it so hard to find a server to play on?
Haven't you read https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202150165449035816 ?
No, I missed that, thanks π
no
We don't know yet, thats why I'm waiting to start our Servers new season when CTA launches. So they're aligned, makes sense to me
My simple solution for this is what I call the 'intake chest,' biggest type of chest I have access to, right in my portal room/gatehouse. I come home, everything I picked up goes straight into that chest, sort it out later. Cuts the number of trips I take into my vault to sort and deposit items by 50% or more.
Was doing a flametal spire, things went fine, then I apparently got hit with a lava ball, and was hurled out into the lava. Then we spent nearly an hour trying to figure out how to get out far enough to reach my tombstone. Which we finally did. Then we recovered 7 more flametal that was sitting on the lava. So why am I supposed to like the Ashlands?
One positive thing about all of that, nothing attacked us. For nearly an hour. Aside from lava bombs, or whatever you call those things that strike you from the lava. Nicest hour we have spent in the Ashlands.
The fireballs coming from the lava aren't striking you on purpose, that was just bad luck. They won't target you specifically. You can utilize Basalt Bombs to create stone platforms in the lava to retrieve items with, but be careful they are temporary.
You're not supposed to like anything, and I don't think Ashlands is going to hit everyone the same way. Personally I enjoy the thrill of that biome and the feeling of accomplishment that comes with a successful mission there.
So thats what those are for.
Yeah, thats the only thing keeping our interest, the challenge.
I typically try to keep roughly 10 basalt bombs on me when exploring, for a quick shortcut/uncovering the map in an all lava area.
Aside from the challenge, we have found nothing to like about the Ashlands. Except the new gear looks cool.
Finished the black forest without any death, 30 seconds in the swamps and I've already died twice
As someone who definitely suffers from a form of OCD when it comes to loose items & half broken boulders, Ashlands can be mentally exhausting for me. Beyond that it can be such a sincere contrast to the relaxing Meadows, and that is a welcome addition for me personally.
Yeah, swamps can be ugly, Especially with the 2 stars.
I killed a 2 star leech but I think he killed me too a bit later
Their poison does run a long time. Its why its best to be using the mead.
bout to go see what I need to do to make some lol
Yeah, I've been finding it to be mentally exhausting as well. The visuals, the sounds, are all tiring to me for whatever reason.
Definitely a biome I will never look forward to having to go into.
Once you get the flammetal armor & tame an asksvin, the biome experience becomes a lot more fun.
Yeah, I want to tame those right away, but my wife wants to kill a lot of them first. I'm like, "We aren't even seeing a lot of them. Breeding them will probably go faster."
Both are good ideas, the food you can make from their meat is very handy, but being able to ride across lava and at high speeds is hard to beat.
Personally I hardly use the flammetal spires for gathering ore, the fortresses can be a little tricky to take on but typically give you plenty to work with. Just bring a stone portal to your fortress conquest and place it down when it's all clear, bring the goods home and travel to the next fortress from there.
We have yet to find a fortress, and only the one spire. The rest we got from dvergr.
Ah alright! They tend to be inland but you will see it from afar. π¨
Just opened this chat and.. saw the word portals?
I think we have almost scoured this entire island. We see almost a complete coast line.
There are portals in this game?
Yep.
The farthest i made, back when i played on release, was when u could travel via boat
Fighting trolls and stuff
The power cores help you create portals. Along with dwarf eyes and fine wood.
Portals were a thing on release to be fair π
Getting back into it now after a long long long hiatus with my bf, in hopes that its a better experience now
Thats why i mentioned how far i had made it previously
Yeah, you need cores and fine wood to unlock portals.
portals been in the game for 5 years or more (before Early Access
Oh sorry I misunderstood
Along with the eyes.
Im sure they were. I just lost interest before experiencing them
The groups i found before were just.. not fun to play with, and the game isnt fun solo
Most survival games arent fun solo to me, outside of palworld, and mc modded
I find it fun solo and in a grp
but its a very different experience when playing with others
That sucks. Fortunately I like playing solo too. My wife isn't patient enough to allow me to do the building I like to do. π
That's fair, I'm the opposite 100%. I used to yell at my friends about leaving floating trees in Minecraft and didn't know I had that side to me. π
I build stupidly simple, and if my bf ever wants something different he can build it separately
Now I know that it's better for me to play alone.
Plenty of space to build big stuff
We settled down a little Southeast of spawn, near where some rivers meet to make a lake(or big pond?)
Nice spot. Open area, devoid of trees, near the neck spawns and birds come often
Not too far from the first boss which i think we are ready for. I think u need deer trophies for it?
the map is generated via map seeds, its always different unless you choose the same seed again etc
If not that, then i have no clue tbh
yes its deer trophies
I don't do the crazy builds anymore, I just like restoring towers to use as mini bases and to safely hold my portals. My wife just wants to put the portals on a high rock, or down in mine pits.
I do whatever is default. The map looks the same as it did last time i played it.
Maybe some of it is different? But idk, the lake is in the same spot it was last time i played the game
And its a fresh world
If you're using the same world it will be the same, but each world is generated differently, the chances of it being the same are very very low.
Its a different save, so a diff world
You can definitley have similarities, but they are rarely even close to being the same, over all.
Yeah it's likely a different world, just a coincidence with the lake.
I still have the old one. Lemme load it up and compare
Like I had two worlds where they were very similar around the starting area, but they were radically different from there on out.
Basically all I've played is the starting area so thats probably why they seem the same
The spot im talking about is less than a minute from spawn lol
valheim uses one major world map that has a section chosen out of it by your seed and then modified with biomes and heightmap changes
its possible to get very similar looking sections easily
These worlds are HUGE, as you will hopefully see for yourself this time around.
Only time will tell
there a specific island my buddies and i call sawa island because it closely resembles the karasawa laser rifle from the armored core games, its easily visible on most seeds
I'm using this seed on my current playthrough, it's the best seed I've ever used so far, and I've played through about 6 times.
#1352161012689801309 message
Thats a lotta water
There was only one merchant the last time you played.
Also wow, the ONE seed i decided to destroy when i got on earlier is the one that had the similar looking lake area
It had a uhh... questionable name. So i deleted it lol
also people have VASTLY DIFFERENT opinions on what constituates a good seed
When i loaded up my other 2 saves... they generated like a new world which was weird
Maybe cuz my character is new idk.
Updated with the new biome info.
Ahhh
yes because the world gen was changed in some content patches, this is normal
Yeah both of those 2 were vastly different. The 2nd one was like surrounded by water
Yeah of course, which is why I included that it's the best I've ever used, and didn't just say it's the best seed ever. π
I updated several of my oldest worlds over the last couple of days.
to me it looks no different to a purely random one haha, quite bad for sailing in some ways
My biggest builds stayed intact, so was happy to see that.
i lost one base when the ashlands change happened
I may have lost something small, but my biggest, most memorable, builds are still there and holding in place.
Ah, well all 3 merchants, 30+ crypts on a swamp connected to spawn island, and a tetra fish cave are all valuable to me, not to mention all bosses are only a short distance away. These are things I value.
I prefer a swamp with good boat access instead of connected to spawn island for instance
I did find an Ashlands boss summoner tonight.
I also lost a big build sadly because I replaced a wrong backup after some PTB testing, that was hard, was a black marble odin temple
imo almost as easy to find as eikthyr haha
Its my first time finding it, so no idea how difficult or easy it is.
hardest boss to find is always #5 if playing solo bit easier on a server
I usually find him sailing. This time we found a stone first.
I prefer entering swamps on land if I can, but mostly because of one particular instance of a river Abomination that had awoke just as I came ashore, I just had to watch as it leveled my boat. π
2900h and only found him with a vegvisir twice, all the other times found the altar before the vegvisir
I'm over 4700 hours now. First time getting this deep into Ashalnds.
Ashlands is one of my fav biomes, killed boss there already like 5 times or so
So far I am pretty much hating it.
I love hybrid approach, 1 health food 1 stamina 1 eitr, heavy armour, staff of the wilds and primal axes is my most fun loadout
or before you get the ashland weapons, mistwalker and shield + staff of embers (also forgot staff of protections)
We stayed pure melee/bows. Thats not really been an issue. Aside from just how much fighting you do.
I might try pure melee again soon once CTA leaves PTB and comes to live version of the game
see how it feels again
I also love to use different weapons when I do a new playthrough
My wife had us set up so many ballista on our home Ashland base walls. Think we have 8 or so. Kind of insane.
Its nice to head into our walls and have them kill off whats chasing us, because your always being chased.
I agree with your wife, lots of ballistae on base can be hella fun
also looks cool
We have a fallen Valkyrie trophy now too. Not that those have been an issue at our base. Have to go pretty far out to even run into them.
Im loving the bow as per usual. Melee is eh. I dont understand blocking
some good stuff on the wiki about it
Parry is the tricky part. Block is easy, in comparison.
to understand blocking
I block because its far more reliable. Screw up a parry, and you likely die. I hate dying.
If you're not so good with timing, maybe opt into Tower Shields.
Can u 1H those
Dying is no issue if you have the super cool buff and keep it up lol....
"No skill loss"
Yeah, you can use them with 1h swords/axes/spears/etc.
I play standard settings. Except this time. We allowed ores through the portals since early in the swamps.
yeah its good to have the setting but I don't like it because it spoils the reward from later quite a bit (Ashlands spoiler)
Thats so late in the game, I don't consider it a reward, just about dang time.
I've just started my first long play on Very Hard, last time I did Very Hard it was very calculated and fast.
This time I am setting up to really soak in the experience.
Is the stone axe 1H? I assume so
Yes!
Thats all i have rn. Tho i think i can build a flint weapon
seems like a great idea been thinking of a super slow burn harder playthrough too
I think the only early 2 H is the Stagbreaker.
Lots of flint nearby
and bow.
I never make the stone axe, only flint
How do u get wood early? The twiggy trees and ground branches?
yes, before you have an axe
So far I'm really enjoying it, the preparations are far more expansive, even into training skills this time around.
Wouldnt getting a flint one be harder than stone tho
there is also another slightly advanced trick can tell you if you want
U would need a lot more wood, since u cant build flint in ur inventory
Yeah, you can get a lot of wood and stone just picking it up, as well as flint. But flint is only along the meadows water line.
Does it have something to do with the fact that trees can take environmental damage
Like from other logs falling on it and stuff
nope, to do with a workbench
Oh, yeah, tear everything down, when you first find it.
Like other buildings? U can tear those down?
you can put a workbench near one of the abandoned houses and destroy that house (disassembly middle mouse click) to get the wood
Ohhh
Yeah, and lean to's, and wrecked boats.
Yeah I'd probably never do that
Abandoned buildings look cool and add to the ambience for me
I leave em be
You want to do that to the lean tos and wrecked boats.
They have special loot?
Yep.
At least until you have a metal called bronze.
Lean tos are basically half a tent
I remember bronze
I got about that far last time i played i think
I went on a ship and there was like a market/merchant
I only remember bits and pieces
I feel like i remember there being ogres
Like bigger than troll creatures
You're not far off
The lean to and boats are only extra good when you find them before bronze. OR go into the black forest and cut down the pine trees. Which you can do with flint axes. I think stone as well.
But last time i played was on release
So i only have vague memories. I had like 20 hours on release week
Sucks the group i had sucked
Birch you cannot cut down, nor oak, until you have bronze axes.
They are the same type that keep me away from terraria
They were overknowledgeable and did things without me, or too fast
I dont have much fun being carried through a new game, i wanna learn at a natural pace
I also lagged worse back then
That's totally fair
Thats why I played so much solo early on. Everyone else was in too much of a hurry.
Either there were performance patches since, or my pc is just better now
if you want to find another group in your area or timezone can always look at #1024264966712340510 , lots of veterans also love to play with new players and make sure not to spoil things too much etc
Went from a r9 3900x, and 2070 super, to a i5 13600kf, and 4060
there was some performance improvements
Im just playing with my bf for now
Oh and ddr5 instead of 4
Though ram speeds dont impact performance much at all
LOL i have the same as your old PC, 3900X and 2070S
Maybe a 3-5 fps increase lol
If you're ever crossed up and don't know where to start, #valheim-help rarely misses a question. The community here is very helpful and patient.
Nice, they are solid specs. The 3900x has more cores, and the 2070super is basically an older 4060. Similar quality
I wanna get a 4080, or something with at least 12gb vram
also Valheim wants GPU power more than CPU power I think
We had 5070s at my job for like 549, i almost got one
Yeah thats generally true for most games. Rare for them to be more cpu hungry
Especially at 1440p
I understand that very well, and I envy you for being able to uncover all the things in the game. It was so much fun finding out all the things back then.
Yeaah
I've only fought 2-3 bosses i think
The only one i remember is the electric deer tho
Fought that one like 5+ times
I think its electric anyways idk
Yeah you're correct π
Enjoy the ride and take your sweet time savoring it. There is only one first time finding things out. It is special. I am so looking forward to the new update.New things to find out π
Unless you remember a metal after bronze, you might have fought only 2. Then pretty much stopped.
This game is very focused around a range of metals.
About as wide of a variety of woods, too.
Quite a lot of new content and a lot of things have changed since 2021
and some things will change again very soon, currently new content on the public test branch, some cool changes in there but we can't discuss them in here because of spoilers, only for new content testers, if you stick with the game this time you'll get even more content and changes when that update drops!
is there a good way to farm leeches. i barely find any ever
also how do i get this broom back in the witches hut, its roaming around and half health
don't worry about that haha it will respawn if it dies
its quite tricky to find a good area, sometimes you find a shoreline that spawns like 20 of them but its rare, if you find a good spot make a portal nearby but not too close to block the spawn, even if it often spawns like 8 its almost worth it because blood bags are so useful for some time
oh ok so they have actual spawn points its not just swamp water?
its complicated they spawn when the conditions are right, but if an area seems to spawn a lot that will not change unless you put spawnproofing nearby, some areas have the right conditions for a larger amount to spawn if that makes sense?
its to do with zone borders too and check for current max population in a zone etc and some areas have more than others there
like i once had a spot I could sit there and 12 leeches would swim towards me
i see, the reason i was asking was if i dig around in a pond near the bog hut will it be able to spawn leeches since there is water there at a certain depth or no?
Don't know the exact conditions for the spawn criteria, I just am glad once I find an area that seems to be rich in leeches and at a minimum mark it on the map so I can come back and run around there a bit when I need blood bags
sounds good
I have 2 choices π€
Continue building my main base
or
Make a new project aka building a lighthouse/tower on top of one of those ashlands ocean spikes

Why not both? β
π€
Good point

Oh boy.. How much I will expect that Valheim will have changed until the time I can properly come back to the game ))
Depends when you've played last time.
Hmm if I exclude my latest log due to playing for only about 10 mins... that would make me not having played Valheim for about 6 months idk
But even then I'll still be glad to be back in-game again mm ^^
maybe playing with some of you guys too
Okay, so there is now PTB patch for Call to Arms update so it's upcoming, but there is no set date when it will be released live.
And of course Deep North later, then after 1.0 who knows.
Aha I see; Well whenever things might happen or release I'll be there eventually because I likely won't be back to playing Valheim soon
You can follow https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202150165449035816 and https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202170015671914506 to get notifications when anything new (dev blog or update) is there.
Yup; I am aware and also excited for what is to come next ))
Absolutely rocky
Ask the country you live at or steam
If my tombstone is in water, will it disappear?
No, it will float
what if you used the exploremap command?
Does this affect the generation of the deep north?
No
It just shows you how the world looks on the map (aka removes fog)
But the map isnβt going to change - the only change is how the terrain generates
It only removes the fog of war, revealing the map. But it won't generate it.
Idk which channel to ask but would there be a ps5 release
They teased an unknown special announcement at the Tokyo Games Show on September 25th
Iβm in the camp of believing thatβll be some sort of PlayStation or switch announcement
But Gamescom isnβt the only event weβll be attending; in a month we will also have a booth at Tokyo Game Show! If youβll be attending, please come say hi! And even if you wonβt be in Tokyo β keep an eye out, because weβll be having an exciting announcement to make for that event as well.
Just giving some credit
Hello! What the two numbers mean when saving the game? The second one is surely the time it took to write to the disk, the first one is usually very low for me (0.03 to 0.05). I wonder what it could be
hey, i have a world on ptb rn. i havent explored the deeop north yet. will i be able to play the deep north update normally when it releases?
on that save
If you dont explore the DN until its update comes then you are safe
alr thx
The first number is how long the game took to prepare the ZDO Manager, Zone System and Random Event System for saving, and the second number is how long the game spent writing the file.
anyone know dev command to spawn a fuling berserker? dont see it associated with goblin or anything
anyone wanting to start a hardcore pve world with me/ looking for people to play this game with

sigh every time I say to myself "I'll use a weapon other than Atgeir", every time I lie
I know it's easy mode, but spin to win calls to me
Is there a public statement on why development speed is glacial?
small team, high quality
most of the game is good quality, but inventory management is poor and the netcode is abysmal
is the extractor the only thing you need black metal for in the mistlands?
They posted about your first point recently IIRC
some weapons use it and so ddoes the galdr table
Inventory I mean, gaeging interest in which method. Dedicated slots, backpack etc. But no outright statement to be fair
yeah but i can teleport the mistlands loot back home to craft those, is there anything i specifically need to take into mistlands?
nah don't think so
so just need to take 5 for the extractor?
And you will want multiple extractors π
thatβd be nice to see but i wonβt lie, the netcode issue actually killed the interest of everyone i was playing with - sure, Irongate got their money and more but it seems like once valheim blew up and they pumped out mistlands, everything has been glacial since and older issues such as the netcode just wonβt get addressed
how many?
I took 2-3 per root
Depends, i as a solo player usually want at least 4-5, but if you are willing to wait a bit longer to farm the stuff they get you then you are fine even ith the one really.
so like 30 black metal?
but I think more extractors just increase the rate you get sap. I think you get the same amount total from 1 root
oh so the roots run out?
Well, thats abit of an overkill, you will suck it dry fast and after taht you only need one in each
I only did 1 root at a time, since extractors are p rare
They regen slowly π
when is update
I wanted it as soon as possible
when god wills it
Look in channel description on #general π
I'm a fairly new player as well, so can't much comment on the development, but maybe there's a mod for netcode?
The mod is called ethernet cables
Tho for mod stuff the #mods-discussion will be more helpfull π
using ethernet cables is a bad excuse for poorly written netcode
Tbh, never had any connection issues
Me neither
there are plenty of games that have far far more weight to them that have sufficiently load balanced and well optimized netcode
I've played with plenty o' yanks and ran smooth as butter, maybe it's worse in ashlands
Usually its problem of individual players connection more than anything else, and that usually in combination with many players in the area or the player with bad connection becoming the "chunk master"
that's funny term, chunk master
Just a player who came to the chunk first and whose device is crunching the data for him and subsequently for everyone else that comes to that chunk π
Never knew there was a term for that, I honestly thought chunks got all loadedd on the server/host
I am sure the netcode can and will be improved closer to 1.0, but I have this feeling most major issues stem from servers accepting more players than the game was designed for, or running mods, or both. I've been running a dedicated server and while there can certainly be some lag when everyone is at the same place doing something, like sailing or fighting a boss, I have never had major issues.
As for the inventory it has always been a design decision the way it is, not lack of development. Now that the last few updates have added even more stuff you'll want to bring along, the free inventory space is at a critical low, so naturally they're looking at the best way to deal with it. Personally I hope they go for dedicated slots for gear as in most similar games, it would be the smoothest route to go. I do not want to see backpacks etc.
i ran a server with 4 other people, not load heavy
having the restriction of βthis person was the first to load the chunk, if their connection is sub par and anyone comes near them, hello lagβ is a poor design choice
Are the ashland shields even worth it
the mistlands parry shield has higher potential it seems
having to restrict your player with the weakest connection to staying close to other people with stronger connections to handle the chunk data feed is a crazy non intentional restriction in a multiplayer game
If you only parry keep the carapace buckler
Anyone know when Call to Arms releases?
Look at channel description in #general π
Oh okay! Thank you! β€οΈ
Not a dev, but what solution would there be to handle loading? I recall there's a mod that handles chunks to the player with the best connection in the local area
Heh, what do you think π
I ran out of those dduring the fight
Shift it to server side simulation instead of client side, hereβs a good write up for the main issue at play;
The server only stores the world and communicates the changes between all clients and itself.
This means there shouldn't be any problems (lag, desync, etc.) if:
-
each player is far enough away on the in-game world/ map from all other players (so each of their parts of the world is run locally on their own computers).
-
or the connections between the server and all players is superb.
If just one of those connections is too slow (ping), not wide enough (bandwidth) or drops UDP packages for any reason (bad ISP, dodgy router/firewall, (W-)LAN, geography, inter ISP peering, whatever...) it can go to shit very quickly.
The first player in any given chunk of the world runs/ simulates it. -> Any other player joining them doesn't run it
- they are kinda clients of the 1st player's game now. And thus their multiplayer data suffers two different internet connections: The one between each of them and the server plus the one between the 1st player and the server.
This means even with the same players on the same server with the same connections the experience can be vastly different depending on which player is where on the map and who was there first (not "first ever"
", just for the current play session while they're there).
I just pacific rim'd this sea serpent, harpooned it and dragged it into the shallows where a troll waded out and fought it neck deep in the water
Yalguth was a pain to fight. The constant spam of fireball aoe slam and lingering burn was annoying
Fenrir set ftw, goated
I prefer padded with barley wine π
still waiting for jacksepticeye`s video whenever it comes
whats that
So what happened is we forgot to craft anti burn potions and my buddy got merked, but I didnt want to wait till tomorrow since we only had like 2 hours (not dedicated server). So I had to lock in and solo him
a youtuber?
When I finished the potions were done, alas we both had to logout, but we (I) did it lol. Padded is good, but its too slow imo for yalguth
Oh dont get me wrong π fenris set is great choice for him, its just my personal preference.
Its a shame there isnt any good looking building material till like ashlands in vanilla
Tar wood and black marble arent good looking? π€
Wait is that before ashlands
Yep π Tar wood is plains and marble mistlands
Ah, nvm then plains lol. Im not the builder guy but I suppose we havent built up to that stage yet
didn't you kill yagluth
They didnt have to build stuff with new materials to do that π
If one never approached tar pits then they never found out new building pieces.
I dont do the building, i just do the killing, and farming, and mining. Haven't upgraded our base with anything yet since we dont need too, but probably soon since we're getting eitr
I honestly think ashwood and grausten are some of the uglier building materials
Hah, I've got Hildir perfectly placed on the edge of a crypt-riddled swamp (with the bog witch just a greydorf stone throw away). Never thought I'd rest so often on those cushy divans of hers!
Grausten walls are a little too cement-looking for my taste, but the arches etc can be used to put nice detail on buildings mostly made of regular stone or a combo. Big wall sections or floors of grausten alone look plain and boring.
Same goes for ashwood really, plain walls look dull, but beams and floors can be used to get great details on a building
I think the pillars are quite nice but I think the set feels like it was made to specifically build only churches
and I hate how clean the ashwood is, it looks like modern wood, feels really clean and I dislike the bracing on it
But muh brutalist, bleak little dark age architecture
you can't even use it for that cause it's so bright andd shiny, they look like they're waxed
Yes, shiny and bright just like my totalitarian regime. We going to Valhalla to kill Odin. Deus vult Christian vikings
Christianity has reached this part of the world at this stage right?
Considering we are not in Midgard we can assume it didnt
I think the existence of odin would put a bit of a cog in the works for jesus
1v1 on the basketcourt
Only way to settle it. Like real gods
Sorry I'm new to this game as well as this group
Technically ragnorak leads to Christianity totally not a ploy by the church to ease conversion
Welcome in π enjoy slaying Odins enemies.

dang, the ptb world update moved my queen location
World updates tend to shuffle locations around

A question
What does make odin appear in this game
Random chance after few requirements are met π
Yes I know the rules
He appears right at the end andd gives you a big smooch
In my head canon he's getting pissed off at me for loitering and gathering flowers instead of spanking the bosses and progressing
"Stop building castles and move on to Ashlands, dammit. Fader needs to die!"
"Pfffft. I found this lovely little island that is just begging to have a tower constructed on it."
Odin can't blame me for not wanting to go to the ashlands
I like that
Ah one more question please
Do you know if there is a groups of players based on time zones
Take a look in #1024264966712340510, or maybe ask in the reddit if you're on that
Okay thanks
did yall ever here some weird human howling noise in the snow mountain
There are certain creatures that do spawn and howl in the night there, yep π
like it wasnt wolf like
it wasnt the werewolfs either
sounded like homer simpson howling hueheuheuheu and both me and my friend heard it
and i coulndt clip it
That was the fenring π the do that heuheuheu
Yep, usually when they become agrroed
it scared the shit out of me and my friend cus it sounded like some grown ass man LMAO
I would imagine a grown ass man did make that sound effect
true but it sounded so unrefined
like as if a grown man just joined our game and like proximity chatted
if that was possible
Smiffe did you guys actually co sider a battle royale or are you guys just poking fun in interviews?
Cosmic burgers
Is there a specific channel for PTB? Wanted to ask a question, but don't see a channel for that.
ye u have to go to channels and roles and select the i want to be a public tester role and the channel will open up
time to go build a castle inside the ashlands
I feel like its going to be epic by default
does anyone think they will ever fix hitboxes when on sloped terrain? im really sick of dying to wolves cause i cant hit them
Yes
There's a combat update in the future I think
Although this is clearly an issue the Devs wanna fix cause they bring it up a lot
oh i didnt know, i havent played in a while so ive been out of the loop. did they say if deep north is the final expansion?
Deep north is the 1.0 update and will end early access
I doubt they'll leave it there but theres no public plans past launch
omg the game is still classified as EA? i didnt know that lol
Yeah, it's a very polished game for an early access
But I mean obviously the game isn't finished but it does play like a finished game
yeah i did a full playthrough to mistlands. everything feels pretty smooth. coming back to the game with the ashlands update and stuff, im doing a playthrough with QOL mods and it feels triple A now
A lot of the QOL issues like combat and inventory are set to be fixed in future updates. I'm pretty excited for 1.0
awesome. the mods that i have are stuff to do with farming, better hoe, quick slots for armor, quick stack and craft from chests. stuff like that, nothing that changes the game just makes it smoother imo. the only mod that i guess changes things is increasing item stack size and reduce carry weight
I have the same things I think except stack size and carry weight. One of the suggested changes for inventory is equipment slots
You only need one to breed more 2 stars.
wait really? they changed it?
Pretty sure it's always been that way, it's just 50/50 chance it'll take the 2 stars vs. whichever other star level you're breeding with.
You've always been able to get 2 stars out of a 2 star and a no star.
Every other one is a 2 star.
oh ok. last time i played was before mistlands. i just remember the guides to breeding always said to have 2 2star
but then again i may have misunderstood
Thats to get one immediately. Just takes a little longer with a different starred boar.
ah ok
It usually takes far longer to find 2 boars with 2 stars. So I start breeding it right away.
yo first boar bred was a 2 star lets go!!!
Now you gotta kill the 0 star
Haldor theme is WAY too good 10/10 bop
correct
can you find onions in the ice caves? I don't think you can just want to make sure
im pretty sure just in chests in abandoned buildings in the mountains
||Onion seeds are found in Mountain Tower and Abandoned Cabins in the Mountain. Picked seeds won't respawn.||
I wish they were in ice caves
I've only gone from carrots to turnips but I feel like there are a LOT fewer turnips flowers in the wild than carrot flowers.
I expect that trend to continue with wild foods being harder to find
There are less turnips probably because I don't think they can spawn in water and it's a swamp
Do you want spoilers?
For the forageables
I'm aware of many of them as I watched a farming guide. Granted I turned it off before it got to the laters but in the beginning it showed all of them
As for how to get them and stuff, I'll be figuring that out
Well plains, midlands, and Ashland's all have relatively common forageables
I always find them when I'm not looking and often if the light is wrong I miss them and go past and later find plants in areas I already went through when the lighting and time of day is better haha
ooh midlands
I miss turnips all the time too, the swamp is awful for findings things
mistlands is a nice biome
I misspelled it, not a diss against the 3rd worst biome
Swamp is one of my fav biomes π
Swamp is my 2nd fav behind plains
Let me guess, your most disliked biomes are black forest, swamps and mistlands? π
nvm, I was wrong
Ashland's and mountains are worse
Mountains? how so?
I love mountains β€οΈ such a peaceful biome with scenic views
is it possible for the '?' from hildirs quests to not line up with the actual dungeons on the map on old saves?
Very probable
love them too but would love a little more there maybe a passive mob and some more POI
for sure
π ive been on the same map since 2021
Peaceful sure. Awful to traverse, weapons sort of suck. Not much to do.
Enemies are also really strong and annoying. Silver is useless cause the spirit damage doesn't do anything in the biome or the 2 following
I don't actually dislike any of the biomes, I just find Ashland's and mountains the worst to play
I think the sloped combat is incredibly egregious in the mountains. The ice caves are awesome though, my favourite dungeon
Silver sword is not bad for some Ashlands stuff though for instance also one of the best looking weapons imho
I think the mistwalker is what people prefer in the Ashland's since it also does spirit
slighlty spoilery but the slop combat is getting better with the update when it comes out.
its also great but used way more stam
I know I'm super excited for that
I honestly rarely consider stam usage with weapons
Just wind up and damage
im in a mountain right now looking for caverns. sloped combat is great when you can rain down fiery balls of doom:)
so when did the devs change their mind on adding real animals to the game
Man if only they made a recent update including a real life animal
that's what im referencing
i distinctly remember them being adamant on not adding real animals a while ago but now they add bears, so im wondering when and why they changed their mind
Are you opposed to βrealβ animals? π€
Community demand for bears specifically but also they've got real life animals already in (deer, birds, bats, fish)
not at all what im saying but ok
I've had hope ever since I first saw the dream. I learned to not believe Smiffe over the dvergr door.
Genuinely asking, not trying to be snarky
Let's keep PTB content in the relevant channels please
I imagine they just changed their minds if they ever did openly say they would never add real life animals
oh ok. no im not against real animals
deer birds and boars arent real?
smiffe addressed those by saying they were either already in the game or purchased assets
or something like that, i dont remember wholly
does mountains have a separate depth limit than the regular terrain? i want to build a castle on the mountains and i want to try and do a basement.
Maybe they're just opposed to making a lot of real life animals. And are trying to limit numbers
I think the depth limit is constant for the whole world. Silver could make mountains a little deeper but not by much
Its the same. I use the wells as my basement in the mountains.
Me neither. I really think itβs simply about the quality of what they add that has the most weight. I think all the βrealβ animals in the game land extremely well.
You know I think I saw a lox at my local petshop once
the groundedness of the early game is what makes it my favourite part. i like magic and fantasy but something about how simple the first few hours are is very captivating. real animals add to that
Wolves are real too.
so?
Pfft, yeah likely story
Just completing the list. Should also add fish.
I like that too, the game becomes more fantastical the longer it goes on
oh right
They murder you for mentioning the update
yeah
but you get what i mean right? the flow between real and fantastical is becoming more and more smooth which is very aesthetically pleasing
Yeah I agree, eventually biomes become fully fantastical with the mistlands and Ashland's
Couldnβt agree more. They act as a great contrast to the fantasy elements of the world and really allow those features to pop.
will crates from a destroyed ship despawn? my idiot skeletons just broke a longship while fighting a seeker
Don't think so
They're like graves
Crates stay until you empty them.
that's what valheim does well: showing the journey from the beginning to the end in a satisfying manner. it doesnt feel jarring going from plains to mistlands, or mistlands to ashlands
k this is all i really joined the server for, bye
the ship had two of hildirs chests in it >.<
I disagree about Ashlands. There is nothing pretty or beautiful about the Ashlands. Its ugly. Pure and simple.
It's not pretty but it doesn't quite naturally follow from the mistlands in terms of magicalness
But it fits the "war is hell" theme, so...
Goodbye π«‘
I was fighting a golem on top of the mountain and got yeeted off it by its attacks lol
Yeah, that happened a time or two to me as well. Not fun. Well, the long fall was kind of fun...
Much better now with a feathered cloak.
DW 100 is the max fall damage you can take
Yeah, but how often do you have that many HP after getting hit by a golem?
All the time
With later foods and armor, sure, but not often initially.
Nah I just am that good
You don't get yeeted if you blocked or parried.
Or dodge rolled.
Yeah I'm just that good
Good for you.
Dodge rollers must be in love with that new cloak in Ashlands. Just too bad you have to wait so long to even get it.
Its supposed to also help with running, but thats hard to tell about even with meads.
The running is with the wind I think
So sometimes it doesn't do anything for your speed
Yeah, I have been wondering how literal that wording is.
Uh it's very literal. If you run with the wind you get like 25% more speed
It always saves you stamina though
I think it varies depends on how with the wind you are
Yeah, but if it still max's out at 100, kind of hard to tell how much its helping when your skill is over 80. I'd have to set up a measuring track or some such to even tell.
I wonder if servers in 1.0 are all going to be passworded like currently. Ive been getting through the swamps in my solo world but i really want a relatively fresh dedicated to play on with people
As good a guess as any.
I didn't really comprehend how large the long ship was until making one
It's laughable how much it dwarfs the Karve
Wait until you see the next one.
Any bigger and the screen will need to zoom out more to drive it
Yep. Its pretty big, even compared to the longship.
The picture on the valheim wiki "Boats" page is a good representation. WHY DO I NEED STAIRS?!
Thats how high the sides are. Plus you can run along them.
I play solo T_T It's gonna feel so disappointing sailing that big boat by myself
Heh. You will still need it, even solo. You take a beating going to the Ashlands.
Relate
Thats what I hear. Its not like you can race your boats against each other. Well, I guess I could, since my wife plays with me.
Regardless, your not about speed going to the Ashlands. Your usually going speed 1 most of the time.
I plan to get my friends into the game more now that I have a proper base to share. Probably won't until I get enough resources for them to make a full set of gear as well.
Nothing less fun than joining in and getting 1 shot
My friends, and kids, play from the beginning, and get their own mats and gear. Maybe you should give a group or two in #1024264966712340510 a try. They aren't all bad. Most I enjoyed. I may have just been lucky.
Wise!
Never tried. Only ever played with the friend that got me into the game but he's a "game of the month" type of person
Yeah, my kids don't stick with any game for long, most of the time.
I'm more of a play around until I find one and then i'm locked for like 6 months or until I find something that REALLY makes me mad and makes me want to quit playing the one I'm on
Yeah, I tend to play until I find one I really like, then I will put over 4,700 hours into it over the next few years.
hahaha I did that with Runescape and then just didn't feel like it was worth it. I learned then that getting stuck on 1 for too long will really change how you see it.
Putting it down and coming back always gives a fresh perspective and also lets you stay somewhat up to date with what is new
I've put hours like that into relatively few games. Valheim, Skyrim (Tons of mods) Red Dead II, Stellaris. A really old game I play to go to sleep called Master of Magic.
I use the largest chests I can make.
So early on I need around 6 wood chests, then I need fewer as the chests get bigger.
I don't have much stuff in my kitchen atm but I made 2 big staircases to the upstairs and put all the storage under the stairs
Maximum efficiency!
Like right now, in Ashlands, I am doing fine with 2 black metal chests. Feeding two of us.
For over all storage, I have a couple of dozen black metal chests across my main base.
BM chests are great, I don't understand people who only use the normal wood ones
They may not like having to fight that many fulings, etc...
For me it's resources. I'm only using wood atm
I'm also only in the swamp biome so Iron is pretty precious
My wife and I's favorite past time is wiping out fuling villages. We even cleared our first world of all of them.
Yeah, that will change. We got far more iron from the Mistlands than we did our swamps.
Aren't fuelings the goblins?
Yeah, the green guys.
I was clearing out my swamp and came by a plains biome. The enemies weren't too bad. Even the mosquitos were manageable
They toned them down a lot from the early release. The squitos used to murder you in one hit.
I was wondering because when I killed a couple, I was thinking that people were getting wound up over nothing
you said swamp, were you using root armor?
nah full upgraded iron though
Yep, now they are only a problem when your dealing with 2 to 4 of them, and being attacked by a couple of lox and a half dozen fulings.
I could see them being a serious problem in a swarm but 1 or 2 at a time wasn't too bad
yeah that
The plains are our favorite biome. All kinds of crazy things have happened to us on the plains. Even before they added the tar oozes.
Growths?
Then they added the Growths and "You are being hunted". So the plains are a blast now.
What is the best way to handle the mosquitos in the plains? I was able to parry and deal with them easily but they're so fast and nimble, I'd struggle to deal with them without relying on my shield
Is shield and parry just the best option?
Just get their approach timing down solid, hit them before they hit you.
ah yes "Get gud". The obvious answer
π Yep. It takes time and practice, but it can be done.
While I'll be happy to be done with the swamp as soon as I can, I've enjoyed how linear things have been up to this point and am not looking forward to having to do mountains as they're kinda tiny little biomlets scattered everywhere
Heck, my wife and I pretty much do it without even thinking about it now a days.
Some get pretty big, but there are some very small ones as well.
I haven't traveled very far so it makes sense that I have only really spotted small ones
That varies too. Like my closest mountain is pretty small, but we have found the really big ones as well, just much further out. In other worlds, I have had pretty big mountains close to my origin.
The biggest mountains you will look up and not even see the snow on it. Just a big stone wall.
I would look up the seed viewer but I really don't want to spoil myself. Really wanna get the exploration feel
Rather than going for something specific
Then after... 10 to 15 minutes of climbing, you finally get to the snow.
Its why I really like to have my run and jump in the 50's by the time I need to go into the mountains.
I prefer to be in the 40's in the swamps, so I can jump up on the back end of the crypts.
I've never been up a mountain long enough to see anything of meaning as it tries to kill me first
What value is climbing on the crypts?
melee mobs can't hurt you there unless they can also fly
I love to put portal on it too
Find it funny how I post in LFG for "NO PORTALS" and then the guys are like, " oh yeah sure, no problem, cool ! "
and then a few hours in " Can we use the portals, why aren't we using portals ? It would be cool if we used portals... WHYYYYYYYY "
π€¦ββοΈ f-ing people I swear to God
sometimes I regret not just playing solo
I didnt feel like it was serious enough to need to hop on top of the crypts though I guess it would have been convenient
No portals kinda sounds abysmal ngl.
Also depends on what level its at.
It depends on how many mobs are after you, and how many stars they have. Abominations tend to "call in" a lot of troops, for example.
They don't have any. Just everything else does. Except Wraiths. Haven't seen stars on them either.
Hey guys βΊοΈ
Should we stop talking spoilers?
Oh yeah. Those piles of corpses have killed me a few times. Having 3 spawners on each other can get hairy if a couple starred ones come out together
Yep, or hit you with elites. Plus the rest.
You definitely have to be alert in the swamps, and quickly assess what is coming after you.
The mountains are a bit of a relief after the swamps. You only have 3 to 4 things to worry about up there. The night is when it is really dangerous.
Unless you get hunted. That can over whelm you.
Hi! Welcome
Unless I'm with my brother and a few friends, I always play solo. Valheim is not a game I'd ever consider playing with randoms. I'd just drive people crazy with how slowly I want to progress, and their deforested fields full of stumps would drive me crazy...
The games a bit too cooperative for randoms
when was the suggestion channel reset?
Speaking of no-portals I am enjoying that more than I thought I would, it naturally plays into my slow approach π
1 - I have more fun with other people because you can goof around
2 - Farming is like 10x easier, faster, less tedious with a group
But I agree with you.. randoms can be annoying. I mean one of the team mates is already trying to "META" everything. Getting KEYS as torches etc. because he doesn't wanna farm for resin etc.
I just wanna nerd out and play a game not making it into this min max thing π€¦ββοΈ
I just hate portals in valheim because there's so many random things, silly things, fun things that happen when you go out adventuring that I don't wanna skip that, also sailing is awesome in this game.. and that feeling of coming home after a long journey is just not as strong with portals
When Iβm recruiting for my servers I always keep in mind that people forget to read things or are unable or unwilling to do even small amounts of reading at times hahah
EXACTLY ! Same! A few days ago I posted that I wanted people in EU with decent mics... then an American that refused to use his mic joined...
Just adding to the American's are dumb stereotype I guess π€¦ββοΈ
@lunar sapphire Serpent report, a few weeks late.
That DAY serpent I spotted when I first started playing was indeed in the exact spot I remember seeing it.
I subsequently killed it.
I just sailed back through that area after a long absence.
DAY serpent respawned in the same place.
Iβve forgotten any and all conversations of serpents. Thanks for the update though
-# there are a lot of possible explanations for that that don't involve the game having gone through some sudden, undocumented, fundamental changes in how it spawns enemies but i'm too sleepy to deal with this right now
The important thing is I finished my task π
yall what do turrets even do like anyone actually uses them? or are they a waste
If you have a mistlands or mountain base pretty much
Need more enemies. Put 3 stars enemies in all biome
put your difficulty settings higher and you get what you wish for
well... not 3 stars ... but 2 stars π
I just caught wind(pun intended) that a certain forsaken power lets you change wind direction. Is it a bad idea to bumrush it?
Just killed the swamp boss and have a few stacks of silver as far as current progression
I started to build the base of a tower based off the tower of orthanc forgetting that silksong is releasing in 2 days and I'll never complete it
and its in a random pbt version as well lol
you're more than ready for it tbh
it's a very easy fight it just takes a bit of time
Is it normal to have two emerald flames?
I've got me poison sum poison arrows, a bow and a burning hatred for wind direction. YOLO
Farm resin? How do you run out of resin
Possibly the most annoying resource cause you can't stop getting more
bring lots of arrows lol
Two things are infinite: Resign, bone fragments
resin and gredwarf eyes
You should use obsidian arrows if you have the draugr fang
^
Fucking bone fragments, at least the Ashland's let's you burn em as fuel
Huh, I thought it stacked
Nah
You do less poison but it only applies 1 poison debuff at a time
Imagine how awful the swamp would be if poison stacked
I fought out yesterday that it doesn't stack and had an awful hilly fight
I 100% agree about this, haven't enjoyed myself this much in a long time as on my no-portals run right now!
My only problem is I have been unable to decide on where to build my permanent base so I still live in a damn hut... (With a huge turnip field outside and a growing storage barn next to it)
Shouldn't you make multiple bases in every biome
And bring the table ingredients wherever you go
Usually smaller outposts and one major base. Since this is a no-portals run I'll have to make a decision once I make it to the plains - locate there permanently or just have a field for crops. If I don't move there I'll need to sail between farms regularly, so where it ends up will be important.
With portals there is really no reason to ever move out of your first place if you don't want to for aesthetics - just small portal outposts is enough.
What happens when you make it to the Ashland's. It's hell to navigate the waters there
Ugh, Ashlands is a whole other beast. I'll either just skip it or allow myself stone portals.
Well there is good reason to make a strong setup in the plains. Due to special crops
And windmills work a lot better there
(one, between Ashlands and home, possibly via one of those stone circles that were originally concepted as portal locations.)
And lox are quite large
That's kewl, very cute idea
Windmills work fine anywhere really, as long as you don't build them smack in the middle of the woods. They might work a bit faster in plains, but not so much that I care really.
They work significantly faster in the plains
Doesn't really matter, you can always build a couple more to wring capacity up if you want it to go faster.
Something very homely about a Meadows clearing with a bunch of windmills π
I just spent 30minutes sailing to what I thought was a tripple geyser... it was a goblin village π
Raided a frost cave wearing root harnesk. Ooopsie...
... you just made me realize why I was taking so much damage
Yep. Got the trophy though, whee!
I'll do you one better tho. I was doing it in full root set
Oh wait, I'm talking out of my ass, I thought it stacked
Ohyeah that would have been a bit harsh!
Like wearing armour out of compressed gunpowder
Step on a campfire "boum"
The nice things about windmills:
You get the "You stirred the Cauldron event", but since all your animals are save inside, you ignore it, take the portal in your basement to your hub and go exploring elsewhere.
At some point you return, the event ends, you just restock, drop off and go exploring.
Then after a couple of RL days you want to craft a Loxpie, notice you're out of flour, remember you had put barley in the windmill, go there and wonder where all that leather scraps come from.......
is there a particular crafting material that a lox can't destroy
Earth walls
What I usually do (not telling you what to do) ... is I make my first big base in the meadows... then I make a storage camp next to the swamps for materials, then I make another storage area for materials in the mountains and then I make a second big base in the plains
basically I make big bases where I know I'll be doing THE MOST farming and in places I think a big base would be fun at
Yeah I usually never build another big base but rather just smaller outposts to grow barley/flax/shrooms. Since this is a no-portal run though, and I haven't even built a first base yet really, I am planning to put a major build off until I've been able to explore some plains. I'd like to find a good, defensible place close to other biomes, including Mistlands so I won't have to sail to get to my shroom farm.
They can climb over it, though.
So "best" and certainly ugliest solution would be to dig a pit where the lox live in and use dirt walls to maximum height to make it harder for them to climb out.
Although I'm not certain if they can't cover that 16 meters when standing on top of one another.
Where there is a will, there is a way
Or rather, where there is a lox, there is a lox ladder π
Enough of them in one spot will climb over any wall
At least one of them is leaving to make mischief
After killing Fader, the Mistlands + Ashlands feasts give very nice all round stats but since you only have 1 food left over to put into a specific one it seems to be a natural fit for hybrid builds.
So I'm trying a blood warrior thing at the moment, put up bubble, spam skeletons and trolls as I have any eitr, then with my low health use blood weapons. Since it doesnt seem to make sense to use a shield and 1H weapon with a bubble up, I've been using the blood slayer and both blood ranged weapons, I think I need the axes too though since the slayer is slow to just finish off a mob especially the twitchers and marksmen.
Axes, sword, or spear
Just remember to drink lots of tasty mead to keep your health regen down
Thats a good point, shame tasty mead is a pain in the late game with the ingredients you need.
I tried the spear too actually but I dont really get it, but I havent used spears at all.
Kind of annoyed I spent gems on it heh. But maybe theres some technique I'm missing.
Simple:
let mob rush you
Throw spear
Charge mob
Pickup stick
Stabby stabby stabby!!!
If you hit that throw it staggers enemies most of the time
Then you get sweat bonus damage on hit
Just donβt throw the damned this at flying mobs π€£
Yeets spear at valkarie
Misses
Spear goes into lava π
lol yeah
You can at least get that first unexpected shot in at valkyries, they are the only mob in the ashlands which cant see you from 3x the render distance
The time I yeeted my slayer lolite greatsword into the lava because I accidentally pressed it on the catapult π
I still havent built any catapults and I have so many cogwheels
gives fuling camp the side eye
Do it
Build like 20 catapults and set them all off at once π€£

I still want catapults and battering rams to be more useful when sieging enemy areas
Mystic force prevents you from placing this would go a looooooong way towards making ashland forts better
Currently you can just minecraft your way inside π
Build a ladder and climb over
I'd never dream of knocking down the door and let that mob out all at once, Hel no...
Yeah it would have been cool if the forts were fully sealed, no trollstav technique
But its impossible solo to let them all out at once
They would have to work more like the mistlands dungeons, where you break down the seals between sections
Yeah
Magic shield
I did it once and panicked π
Forgot to un-attach myself from ram
Reattached myself to ram
Panicked some more and died in shame π€£π€£π€£
I would have been fine if Iβd kept my head
Unfortunately I lost it so now some charred warlock has it tacked up as a trophy somewhere
To prevent them from climbing that you could make an overhang at the top of that 16m high wall π that should stop them quite well
the big greysten floortiles make fantastic plattforms to get over the walls of a fortress and fireball the monuments inside π I never made a ram... just so much fuss and then you got all that mobs rampaging around π prefer the peek over the top method by far π
They also have the most durability of any piece in game π
and they act as roofing and prevent your workbench and stonecutter from getting firerained on π
All lox attack you unless you have tamed them
Literally this. Add a ward on the inside of the inner gate
Itβs currently in public testing
its a playtst beta
Sadly PTB content gets spoiled quickly in YT/Reddit.
Quick question about valheim and multiplayer networking. I did a search on this and P2P is the only thing still as I can see. Is dedicated communication client-server in the works so we can rely on server networking and latency rather than P2P for 4-10 players fluid adventuring? I'm not saying get rid of P2P but add in dedicated model client-server. If it's suggested can I upvote it someplace?
The best fix of the latest PTB: * Stairs of the Stone Portal should now be climbable
nice, was always fun trying to get up those stairs with too much stuff in your pockets \o/
I'm having issues connecting to a local server. Is it due to the patch?
I'm on Xbox PTB
O!ptb

#suggestions but its likely already been suggested before.
Is there an estimated or expected time that the call to arms branch be deemed stable / out of PTB?
thanks, I've tried searching with keywords there but there is a lot of different things that comes up that is not that topic, I'll see what I can find π
Nope. As is stated at https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202174832729661470
@cedar compass
I did a search in #suggestions "server network" and nothing relevant is coming up :/
found it, just had to search for "server" and then scroll through a bunch of posts, seems the search is a bit of hit and miss. ty! #suggestions message
For yag?
yeah
They rarely have them, you're just better sailing coasts to find the yag summon
Since it's really easy to see
yeah ig
I don't know why some fuling camps don't have the map stone
I have found it more "common" for there to not be one, than there to be one at these locations.
I feel like I like never saw the ruined towers
Ohwaitnow, I think I was thinking of the idols
Yeah, they have the idols, not the stones.
Right, deleted bad info
