Yeah, abominations are a trick to begin with. An upgraded bronze buckler should be able to parry most of their attacks, and slashing weapons do solid damage (sword or axe)

You're gonna need more than you think

Campfires don't really stay lit in the swamps because of rain. Maybe bonfires, or you can use the surtling spawners, but it's generally much faster to just parry and cut them down. A maxed bronze buckler and a bronze axe are all you need, and that should be pretty easily achievable. That's how I usually kill my first ones when doing a new run. You can also jump on top of a crypt or a fallen unbreakable tree and cheese it from there, hit the tops of the legs without it being able to actually hit you back.

Flat is a common ask, closest you get are stone pieces or the arch top pieces that you tile flat. They work ok. Getting good with the i-corner pieces can really help your roofing look and options, too. The hardest is the non-square corners, like if you want to make an octagon or round-ish building.

Just tested this and it's wrong, sorry. Crops will tolerate cold if they are inside a shield but it's useless because they aren't allowed to grow in any of the cold biomes we have. Both the temperature and biome have to be correct for a crop to grow. The only crop that will actually be affected by this is ivy.

Yes, it is. You can get feather cape without killing bosses and then clip out of a dungeon to glide into Ashlands.

Key can also be bypassed by killing oozers. But you can't get black metal or anything that depends on it. I've seen people talk about only killing Moder for that reason, but leaving the other bosses.

You can get to a spire with a raft and then literally just jump from spire to spire

It sounds daunting, but it's literally was simple as running and jumping

I've coached several people through the process for people learning speedruns, and at the beginning i've always asked how hard they think it will be, and they always say 7 or 9 out of 10, and at the end they were always like yea that was prolly a 1,2, or 3 out of 10 in terms of difficulty

They all got it first try too, it's not near impossible at all

Admittedly raft requires you to know what you are doing, but with karve it's really free

So even if you do fail a jump or a build from a spire, you more than likely won’t get punished for it

Just to add to this, i never bother with the drakkar to get to ashlands. Longship with moder power gets you almost all the way and then its just a bit of spire hopping. Almost easier that way with a backup portal on the closest beach spire anyway 🙂

Sword is good general purpose, but since the atgeir does piercing and stuns with the secondary attack, you can go toe to toe with trolls easily. The skills with the weapon are also nice in the swamps, and then in the Plains with lox and fulings.

Smelters are structural. You build them outside, and then you attach roofs and such to them so that smoke can be exhausted but you can fill them when it's storming without getting yourself wet.

was going to do a large stone circle outside, smaller circle inside, so doughnut shaped, garden in the middle, but.. had to get stuff set up for food, stone cutter, etc, and have something to work out of while doing that.. so i built the center up as a temp base to tear down later as I build around it
