The aaaage old saying..."get good"

gray sand
#

Has been replaced by "get money."

vital umbra
#

shame

wooden tapir
#

i mean i thought the ashlands was pretty difficult, it had a harsh learning curve. if you dont adapt you dont thrive

gray sand
#

And casuals have the fattest wallets.

vital umbra
#

i mean honestly the ashlands specifically i didn't find difficult at first in alot of scenarios, just really annoyingly tedious

#

Oh theres another starred warrior, and 17 twitchers, and 4 voltures, and a morgen, and a valkyrie, and 2 lava blobs, and some askvin, wow im having so much fun 😎

wooden tapir
gray sand
#

The only real "fooooock" on entry to Ashlands for me was that everything is immune to Poison.
So all your bombs for dealing with AoE groups just... don't work.

wooden tapir
#

a lot of " let me drink this health potion right in front of this guy like hes not just going to hit me while im giga slowed by drinking animation"

#

i died like this several times before i thought " hey maybe, you get some space between your enemy before trying to heal"

nocturne wolf
#

Jump before you drink

#

Or before anything NeckSmile

gray sand
#

Eh

keen cliff
#

i think Ashlands is a biome where people who naturally played cautious did alright, and people who coasted through biomes recklessly got a rude awakening.

gray sand
#

Demolisher.
Infinite space.

merry pebble
gray sand
#

Jump King? You mean... Mario? 😛

nocturne wolf
#

But I’m already a Jump Viking

vital umbra
#

didn't there used to be much more spawns in the ashlands at first

keen cliff
#

the spawn rates and numbers were adjusted down

vital umbra
#

i havent been there since last playthrough

merry pebble
wooden tapir
vital umbra
#

and until i could obliterate things with flametal equipment, i seriously just found it to be constantly annoying.

wooden tapir
#

playing as mele tho, i think if you go into the ashlands as a mage, its pretty easy

#

the fire staff is broken

keen cliff
#

i stormed the ashlands as a mage. I wouldn't call it "easy", but it was doable. I've died a couple times. Mostly stupidity. I haven't died as melee yet, but i've come close.

wooden tapir
#

and you are in kill threat perma

keen cliff
#

yeah, that's what i figured. that's why i went in as a mage 🙂

wooden tapir
#

your only "advantage" is that you are probably running mistwalker so your attacks slow

#

i still remember my first warrior, i walked up, went to parry

#

then he delayed and 1 shot me

nocturne wolf
#

The first enemy I fought was a 1-star warrior who left me below 10 hp

wooden tapir
#

^

#

when you are used to parrying for 700 hours, then this one specific enemy has a delayed attack

#

tends to prove as a challenge

merry pebble
#

Heh, i feel that surprise when first encountering them 😄

nocturne wolf
#

I immediately learned why the feather cape had been buffed for that update

vital umbra
#

If i can recount my first landing...it was between like 3 spawners and my ship got destroyed by like....is there even a limit to how many fucking charred can be present at the same time?

nocturne wolf
#

I’m pretty sure the spawners have no limits, that might just be night spawns. I’ll check the wiki

#

Monuments of torment can spawn as many enemies as they need to

vital umbra
#

well pulling it out of my ass it looked like 40-50 charred...and i just got here 🙂‍↔️

#

i was actually so upset and i wanted to explore so badly i just used dev commands to fuck everything and then rebuild my ship and a portal, it was all dark and it was night-time and i got my ship stuck on shallow water ofc

#

i think just the next day i then fought off another horde and found my first morgen, didn't try to fight it just tried to hide on a rock which it instantly destroyed, that was terrifying until i found out how easy they are to parry.

keen cliff
#

Valheim is definitely a game where knowledge and not panicing are key

wooden tapir
#

yea i heard quite a bit of people had problems with morgens, but i never personally did. might be the 2nd easiest enemy

keen cliff
#

i tend to die when i forget the "don't panic" part

gray sand
#

Morgens are so simple in melee because you just parry them and they never roll around.

manic nova
#

whenever i place my stone throne it breaks...??

merry pebble
manic nova
#

okay

nocturne wolf
manic nova
#

that was my hunch

wooden tapir
#

unless the wood is blue, meaning its grounded

chilly wharf
#

Don't tell the devs about wood lintels in stone buildings

vital umbra
#

morgens need to deal like more damage or something.

wooden tapir
vital umbra
#

well atleast warriors are a bit more difficult to parry sometimes

wooden tapir
#

true

gray sand
#

Funny, given a Morgen is a literal bone mass 😉

wooden tapir
#

i think my 2nd putrid hole ever had a 2 star morgen, its still in there

vital umbra
#

i know someones gonna say warriors are easy but my experience is having difficulty figuring them out

wooden tapir
#

might go challenge it for its hole someday

vital umbra
#

died to lord reto more than fader

keen cliff
#

i'm going to absolutely kill lord reto with asksvins

#

use signs to make a box for them whiel they hatch

wooden tapir
#

@vital umbra oh i struggled to learn their attack patern for a long time, they are the hardest enemy for me to face still.

nocturne wolf
wooden tapir
#

they are weak to lightning tho, and i use thunder axes

nocturne wolf
wooden tapir
#

only problem is, i cant parry a starred morgen with axes

vital umbra
nocturne wolf
#

I hope you at least find the green ones ok

wooden tapir
#

id rather fight 3 2 star archers than 1 1 star warrior tbh

#

i hate warriors

nocturne wolf
#

Sprint jump back, wait for their swing and do a secondary while sprinting forwards before you land

merry pebble
wooden tapir
#

is his cave big enough for me to summon a troll in there?

nocturne wolf
#

But with all the two-star spawners players need to get past for the Dyrnwyn, they will have a lot of practice

Trolls can’t be summoned in dungeons

wooden tapir
#

i havent fought him yet

#

rats

#

how about the roots? i can summon those yea?

dull sequoia
#

Rats!

vital umbra
#

my practice didn't pay off well enough i guess lol

wooden tapir
#

i dare not take on lord retro as a mele

vital umbra
#

he made a warrior build resort to arrow spamming and running away terrified

nocturne wolf
gray sand
#

Dodge duck dip dive and dodge 🙂

vital umbra
#

i hate dodging

long locust
#

gonna be so honest I have barely noticed enemy scaling since switching to mage lol

wooden tapir
#

i dont feel like dying 20 times

vital umbra
#

hi scissor

long locust
#

I just fireball until death hits them, just takes a little longer on the warriors than it did on seekers hi

#

my asksvins hatched btw

wooden tapir
#

yea mage is broken in ashlands

#

very rarely will you find yourself in danger

long locust
#

root staff is kinda insane tbh

wooden tapir
#

wait till u upgrade it. i can summon 5 roots

#

it feels a bit unfair

#

3-5 roots, then you just circle around them, and yea thats that

#

something getting too close? use fire staff

gray sand
#

Fire mage and root mage are broken.

Frost mage and ling mage are severely lacking.

vital umbra
#

all i ever heard is how great frost mage is in the ashlands

#

slowing enemies and enemies being weak to its damage

gray sand
#

Fireball does better.

nocturne wolf
vital umbra
#

i just entered the ashlands on a mage build on someones world....legit fam, fireball was better sometimes and for alot of situations the ice staff was more reliable

gray sand
#

Some of use find fire magic boring 🤷‍♂️
So we are back to being melee until Frost gets a better option.

wooden tapir
#

the fire staff does more blunt dmg than fire dmg, so it proves very useful, also the added knockback, just keeps you a safe distance from anything that might kill you

vital umbra
#

I always used the frost against voltures, serpents, & warriors, and fireballs against archers and morgens pretty much..

gray sand
long locust
wooden tapir
#

ice staff only good for blobs

vital umbra
#

...i guess we just have completely different experiences then..

#

i have found the ice staff amazing

long locust
gray sand
#

You are speaking in terms of "Well, in my personal experience."

I am speaking in general terms that always apply.

wooden tapir
#

i feel like ice staff just requires getting too close

long locust
#

I typically only used the ice staff for single target or as a defensive tool for retreating since it would slow enemies

vital umbra
#

and the firespread from the fireball has almost killed me a couple times, i am doing close range pretty much anyways..

long locust
#

and root/trollstav have taken its place as my defensive options now

gray sand
#

If Ice Staff had better accuracy with higher skill and didn't spread as much it becomes a different conversation.

wooden tapir
#

i dont want to be anywhere near a warrior, if he can swing at me, im too close ( if im playing as a mage)

vital umbra
#

shield, parry, ice, has been what i have been doing

gray sand
#

So you're half-maging.

long locust
#

parrying as a mage is wild

gray sand
#

Which is very, very important to clarify at the beginning of the discussion....

vital umbra
#

am i?...i'm only using magic weapons and armour lol..

wooden tapir
#

ive never parried anything as a mage

vital umbra
#

the shield is wonderful for parrying

nocturne wolf
#

The staff of protection can parry every blockable attack because you take no stagger, it’s so broken if used right

wooden tapir
#

dont heven have a shield

long locust
#

REAL mages use REAL robes and REAL EITR ONLY FOOD, REAL mages don't use these SILLY mundane tools like SHIELDS

vital umbra
#

...wh?...wha?...i mean the bubble..

gray sand
#

"In my experience, Ice Staff is amazing compared to Fire Staff. I will choose to completely leave out that I am actually comparion Ice Staff + Shield vs. Fire Staff, as I don't find this crucial detail relevant to the debate."

long locust
#

oh, I see, still odd but yeah the bubble shield is great for parrying, if that's your thing

vital umbra
#

That counts as a shield, because it shields you, i thought that would just make sense to call it

wooden tapir
#

i dont think that bubble can parry tho no?

vital umbra
#

the fact that i parried with it suggests otherwise

long locust
#

as it also prevents overflow damage from hitting you if something breaks the bubble

gray sand
vital umbra
#

feather cape and all that

wooden tapir
#

oh, i never used a shiled or tried to block ever, so i never parried with the bubble

gray sand
long locust
#

the fire spread in the ashlands only tickles me, and I still wear the feather cape half the time

vital umbra
#

i don't know what context the fireball staff is better in, i like using it against archers so far.

nocturne wolf
wooden tapir
#

yea i know you can block/parry with a staff, i just never did it

vital umbra
#

parrying is so awesome

long locust
gray sand
#

The origins of the the conversation was purely Fire Staff vs. Ice Staff.

You argued on behalf of Ice Staff and discounted every point because "Not my experience." while leaving out critical information that pertains to how you are gaining said experience.

So in your now-given context, no, you will not find Fireball better.

vital umbra
#

ahh i do use the fireballs to break up a crowd, and then for all the stragglers it is terribly inefficient to use up so much mana on some individual twitcher or warrior

long locust
#

the fireball does passable single target damage but where it really shines is the AoE potential

gray sand
#

For most people, who are in the original context, Fireball is better.

long locust
#

now, real shit, why does dundr have to suck so bad

#

it's so cool conceptually but in reality giving the mage a shotgun just isn't as effective as I'd hope

wooden tapir
gray sand
nocturne wolf
vital umbra
#

One on one encounters i don't care about the fireball staff as much, The ice staff is faster and more efficient in close quarters aswell, to parry enemies then keep them slowed is so great.

long locust
wooden tapir
#

yea i like to be as far away as possible, which makes the ice staff useless since it will miss 70% of its projectiles

vital umbra
#

when i have used the fire staff to fuck up a crowd, like i said with the stragglers, the fireball doesn't work as good for me.

#

ahh i don't like to be far away because i'm a warrior at heart, i still like to play around with magic.

gray sand
vital umbra
#

I think i will like the dundr quite alot when i get to it.

#

I kinda don't wanna use the trolstav 😎

wooden tapir
#

when im running mage, my biggest goal is survival, so i will just stay at a distance, and ideally never take dmg

long locust
#

I typically try to play mage as a mid-range class anyways, but what's awful is that even with the frost staff at mid range I still miss 80% of my shots unless I'm shooting in to a crowd, which would just be better dealt with by the fireball

long locust
wooden tapir
#

ice staff is good for disposing of trolls tho after they clear the mob

long locust
#

nothing like using a summoned troll to get like 300 ashwood then watching it get slaughtered by hordes in the ashlands

nocturne wolf
#

The trollstav is also an amazing pickaxe

long locust
#

yup, trollstav is my favorite weapon of mass destruction

wooden tapir
#

trollstav best fortress raiding tool in the game

gray sand
#

K is the best fortress raiding tool in the game 😛

long locust
#

took me a second to figure out why the road most travelled fit the ashlands so well, I'm literally in valheim morrowind rn

wooden tapir
#

i might go raid some fortresses today, need some iolite, my axes are still lvl 1 ):

long locust
#

opposite issues here lmao, I have so many gems and nothing to use them on since I don't have the flametal to experiment with every single weapon

gray sand
cosmic igloo
#

why do some charred warriors just walk away? they dont do the classic AI pathing of greydwarf, they just simply.. walk away

#

like i just met some 2 star charred warrior, i hit him once and he just 180s and walks away.. why

long locust
#

bruh, one of my asksvins has taken a liking to my dining hall lmao

#

just started walking around in there, it somehow managed to climb on top of the fermenters

helpful tip for anyone looking to tame loxes, plan your base with murphy's law in mind, anything that can hurt the lox will hurt the lox

#

my lox keep walking into my beehives and bonfire because I figured they wouldn't be stupid enough to walk directly into the beehives and fire

wooden tapir
#

i feel like its the other way, anything the lox can destroy, they will destroy

wooden tapir
long locust
#

what's more annoying is that they get scared, and proceed to RUN INTO MORE BEEHIVES

wooden tapir
#

i had one of my askvins climb on top of a hearth, then just stand there as its getting burned. he did not care at all

long locust
#

I may just make a whole nature enclosure on that mistlands island and put my bees there so the idiots don't trample the hives

wooden tapir
#

true

long locust
#

gorlock the destroyer was certainly living up to her namesake

wooden tapir

it's MY alcohol addiction not hers

wooden tapir

i want to put an askvin in my base, but its not complete and is not enclosed, and i dont want my askvin being stupid and going outside

cosmic igloo
#

man its so fun to fight charred warriors, i cant think of any non-boss unit i've enjoyed more

#

fallen valkyries are pretty good too but its less fun as melee

long locust
#

I hate valkyries with a burning passion

wooden tapir
#

after killing about 30 of them

cosmic igloo
#

i just dont like that u can basically only attack it after u parry it's talon attack

keen cliff
#

i haven't figured out valk melee yet. still working on that. seems easier to kite them and shoot with jade ripper

cosmic igloo
#

just you parry talon attack and then jump + hit

#

it's hitbox is kinda unclear to me

wooden tapir
#

you dont even need to jump

cosmic igloo
#

ya prolly not, i just jump to be safe

#

like so i hit it for sure

wooden tapir
#

yea it is pretty inconsistent, either you hit or dont even if they are low enough you should be able to hit

#

for me i usually drink fire resist mead just to be safe, then parry talon attacks and dodgeroll the spin attack

#

2-3 cycles of parrys is usually enough to kill them

cosmic igloo
#

ya same. i dont drink the fire resist tho since i found the projectiles to be so slow anyway

#

like u can just walk and it will miss

wooden tapir
#

slow yes, but sometimes i accidentally walk into the fire on the ground

keen cliff
#

fire resist is cheap, better to just drink it

cosmic igloo
#

fair enough

wooden tapir
#

exactly

#

barely and cloudberries are so abundant

#

it was the same with gjalls

#

could i fight them without it? sure, but ill still chug one just to be safe

#

sometimes ill even just chug one if i see a lava blob

#

another easy to dodge explosion, but if they do hit that burn hurts

cosmic igloo
#

bro those lava blobs dont even tickle lol

#

assuming u have full flametal

wooden tapir
#

do you use feather cape?

cosmic igloo
#

nah

wooden tapir
#

thats why

#

if you have a feather cape each tick is doing like 30-40 dmg

#

from those blobs

cosmic igloo
#

well id say ditch that shit anyway, theres not any high mountains like in mistlands

wooden tapir
#

there is more use than just no fall dmg

long locust
#

to be completely honest I prefer the feather cape to every other cape, even the asksvin and ashen capes

#

the ONLY reason I don't run it 100% of the time is because they gave it a fire weakness

wooden tapir
#

and there currently isnt a better cape, unless you are going full tank mele

#

like if you are going full flamemetal heavy armor and ashen cape

#

understandable, but every other armor set feather cape is better

cosmic igloo
#

aight

wooden tapir
#

jumping is op

cosmic igloo
#

yea i use it on mage setup

wooden tapir
#

sad to see the jump increase taken off, but still really good for jumping and getting out of tough situations

#

also those giant rocks all around, are really useful when fighting huge hoards, and being able to jump off them without dmg

cosmic igloo
#

u mean the flametal pillars?

wooden tapir
#

no

#

just the natural rocks, the ones that have weird ridges on them

#

enemies can climb them, but only 1 at a time

#

they funnel 1 by 1 up it, and if they get too close you can jump off, and then repeat the cycle

cosmic igloo
#

ah aight

nocturne wolf
#

https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Feather_cape

Feather cape is a craftable Armor piece that gives 100% fall damage reduction and 20% jump cost reduction as well as limiting fall speed to 5 m/s, due to the Feather fall effect, with the common protection of resistant to frost, however it is very weak against fire.

i just spent like 5 whole minutes chasing my own wisp

#

i was so confused as to why i couldnt just pick it up

long locust

lmao

tender arch
#

the best part is

#

i did this last night without realising it was my own wisp and just eventually gave up

wooden tapir

LMAO

#

sometimes i put my wisp on just to go collect sap, then forget about it, and become encumbered, and am like " bro how is this too heavy!"

long locust

ngl, ever since I went to ashlands I haven't even bothered equipping any mist stuff

even for my sap runs, I just deal with the mist the entire time lol, probably gonna set up some wisp torches soon

I still gotta make a dedicated portal hall at some point

same, rn all my portals are underneath the elder platform

mine are all on my second floor of my house rn lol

wooden tapir

too many portals for that

I'm wondering if I'd be able to make some sort of tower at spawn for them all lol

i have like 20 seperate portals

have the forsaken altars in the center of it

wooden tapir

yeah ik, was gonna see how I could get around that if at all

rotund parrot

I like to have 3 portals, 2 that I am using and one that is always unlinked and named backup

also if im exploring, i like to go to the nearest portal if i forgot to bring a spare

rotund parrot

I dislike searching for the right portal amongst many of them and having to grind twice the amount of portals and not placing portals where convenient because I don't want to add yet another portal to my base

rotund parrot
vital umbra

just add like trophies over the portals, or signs, thats not the end of the world.

that seems like less of a mess than somehow remembering 1-70???

wooden tapir

numbers would confuse me, id never remember where they went

vital umbra

vital umbra

i don't understand, i think i am a dumbass for not being able to remember the number, and i find the name to be easier.

worldly spade
#

Just write it down on notes

wooden tapir
#

then add a number for multiple instances, like Mountain 3

vital umbra
#

why would i ever make notes

rotund parrot
#

How it usually goes is that you have the last 2 portals you made, let's call it 30 and 31, then if you want to keep moving forward, you change the portal named 30 to 32, take another portal, enter portal 31 and when you are ready to come back, place the portal and name it 32

vital umbra
#

🙂‍↔️

#

this game is seriously not that complicated that i want to use notes, i only do that for grim dawn

worldly spade

then don't complain LOL

wooden tapir

i use 1 unnamed portal for my quick access portal. it goes straight home and nowhere else

vital umbra

what am i complaining about and whats so egregious about it???...i have a perfectly fine system...

worldly spade
#

not u

wooden tapir
#

but its preference i suppose, id just get confused with numbers

rotund parrot
#

It's just a way to save a ton of time by never moving backward to your portal, which is a waste of time and often dangerous (unrested, it turns night or whatever) and it also save a ton of material

worldly spade
#

The ones that are like "ugh.. i cant remember all of this.. but I wont do any steps to help me remember..'

its so easy to understand that eikthyr leads to eikthyr tho...i seriously don't get it

i mean i guess my portal could be named whatever it wouldnt matter, i know where they go by where i placed them in the portal hub

i dont even read portals

whats with all this math

wooden tapir
#

i mean

#

free run skill progression

vital umbra

i already get that in like 90% of the gameplay that there is so i actively do not want to have to run anymore

How do you approach the mistlands if you want to have every portal on the map linked to one at your base?

wintry valve
#

I like how turning 0.2 pounds of flax can make 2 pounds of thread

wooden tapir
#

@rotund parrot my main thing with how u do it, i dont want to run to a portal, then look at the map, then name it where i wanna go. i just wanna run through the portal

wintry valve
#

I guess its on par with how using 300 pounds of black metal can make a 0.3 pound sword

vital umbra
#

make a portal at your base named mistlands and make a portal in the mistlands named mistlands 🤔

#

did i misinterpret something

wintry valve
rotund parrot
#

So you just have one portal and you hope to find something then run back to it?

wooden tapir
vital umbra
#

if i can't remember the word "mistlands" then maybe i deserve to get stranded 🤣

wooden tapir
#

my base has 3 portals total, to spawn for boss power swaps, the kitchen for food and mead cooking, and to the portal hub which is far away from my base for less instance count

crude sparrow
#

Do you have a portal for your kitchen?

wooden tapir
#

i do

rotund parrot
crude sparrow
#

Where did you build your kitchen? xD

wooden tapir
#

in the plains, at my farm

crude sparrow
#

oh I see

vital umbra
#

i am so confused about these like meticulous systems people have conjured up for portals

rotund parrot
#

Oh man you need to go through 2 portals

vital umbra
#

i don't even have a hub, not really, unless you count my base.

crude sparrow
#

I usually create one portal to each location

undone turret

I must say, dundr isn't my number 1 choice for the ashlands, but god damn it feels nice to blow a seeker to pieces with it

worldly spade
#

idk maybe im tweaking but i swear ive looted the same crypt 3 times and got surtling cores lol

rotund parrot
#

Just the mushrooms

vital umbra
#

gunna be honest the dundr....feels really, really weird and when i saw it i felt it was borderline out of place in the game lol....oh its just a straight up shotgun 👽

worldly spade
wooden tapir
#

idk i havent looted a crypt since swamp

#

i found 2 geysers right next to eachother, go sit there for 10 min and get 30 cores

#

and i have probably 8000 greydwarf eyes (not exagerating, greydwarf farm op)

rotund parrot
#

Surtling cores don't even spawn in sunken crypt, about the burial chambers, the surtling cores do not respawn

wooden tapir
#

cutting trees sucks tho, but again, free woodcutting skill progression

#

as someone who wants to hit 100 on every skill, every boring task, turns to progression

worldly spade
#

i love cutting trees

vital umbra
#

do campfires still prevent enemy spawns??

wooden tapir
#

yea

#

they count as a base structure

vital umbra
#

istg i have 60 campfires around my base and i am still swarmed by greydwarves

wooden tapir
#

there may be gaps, campfires are rly hard to tell their radius

#

but they are scared of fire, so if u have them all lit they should stay away

#

lots of wood usage tho

vital umbra

#

OH BOY, TIME TO GO ON ASHLANDS VOYAGE #3

#

I LOVE ASHLANDS SAILING

wooden tapir
#

are you going to a mysterious location?

long locust
#

yeah, but that's not the main reason I'm sailing

#

first island had no forts, second only had one, so I need more flametal

wooden tapir
#

fair

#

i got pretty lucky, only 3 islands in my ashlands, 2 smaller ones on the side and a massive one in the center. the first one tho did have no fortresses (one of the side ones)

long locust
#

my current plan is to go to the very edge of the boiling water and sail sideways until I'm above the mysterious location on my map

wooden tapir
#

but it allowed me to get a portal down on 2 of the 3 continents

long locust
#

then I sail down through the spikes

wooden tapir
#

good plan

long locust
#

damn I wish I brought my ice staff for once, one of the few things I use it for is dealing with serpents and bonemaws

gray sand
#

If I knew what the internal name for the spires was, I would be /forcedelete-ing the shit out of them.

vital umbra
#

thats like the general consensus....i have not seen a single person say they outright like the things 🤣

long locust
#

thankfully my second island had a fader altar so I don't need to find that again

vital umbra
#

i swear to odin...its a cool idea...the stormy seas the big spikes....but if the fucking things were just a liiiiitttle further apart so you don't get your obtusely large ship stuck so much of the time....

wooden tapir
#

i like them, i think they are a cool addition for a lategame biome

#

just dont like sailing around them a lot, but the initial experience is good

vital umbra
#

Yes, The very first time they were cool, After that i preferred the fly command 🤭

wooden tapir
#

i prefer to suffer if it means not cheating

long locust
#

holy SHIT bonemaws have a high spawn rate

gray sand
#

Yup.

vital umbra
#

I never cheated quite so much as when i got to the ashlands in my last playthrough, I hated corpse runs, I hated the sailing, I hated grinding for building materials, So i remedied all of those things..

#

I made a big ol base using up whatever building materials i had and spawning in what i didn't have enough of, That largely consisted of black marble.

wooden tapir
#

having cheated in a lot of games ( back when you needed cheat codes) ive learned that 9 times out of 10 the more annoying less easy route, usually proves to be more fun and enjoyable in the long run

vital umbra
#

I never cheated in crafting materials or food, nor resources for ships or portals or any of that

long locust
#

always bring spare crafting benches on ashlands voyages lol, can't count how many times placing one on a spire and repairing my drakkar has saved me

#

ironic that moder's power is helping me get to the faderland

wooden tapir
#

moder power op, doesnt last long enough tho

#

5 min for most powers is pretty decent, but 5 min when sailing, legit nothing

long locust
#

I wish it affected the asksvin cape too

#

full speed fenris + asksvin + ratatosk + 5 mins of perfect wind

wooden tapir
#

if you are lucky you will start a voyage with wind advantage, use moder when it switches (it will always switch) and hopefully ur back to advantage when it ends

#

most sailing trips take longer than 5 min tho so if unlucky you got 5 min of advantage, then a slog

long locust
#

I did, unfortunately it was not back to advantage

wooden tapir
#

rip

#

more bonemaw fighting

#

bonemaw meat is pretty decent food tho

#

same stats as the misthare meal

long locust

vital umbra

i cannot for the life of me....also why i like the ice staff

long locust
#

you know, this ashlands island was actually fairly easy to dock on

#

I might make a port here for return trips lol, apparently 2 dvergr just cooked themselves alive in the shore

#

to all my mages out there, favorite forsaken power?

shy marlin
#

Queen >>

long locust
#

I've just been using queen ever since I got it, pickaxe dmg is nice utility and eitr regen is goated

shy marlin

Eikthyr is good too, Fader also good

vital umbra

ahh i'm not a mage am i allowed to coin in

long locust

vital umbra
#

bonemass > fader > eikthyr > queen > moder > elder

shy marlin
#

if so i could get behind that

vital umbra
#

yeahh pretty much

long locust
#

damn, I have learned the hard way that lava actually kills you, I ran across it on the past two islands because they were so small the pools never gave way to actual liquid

vital umbra
#

the lava in this game is highly ridiculous lol

#

flametal armour has such a laughable bonus effect

long locust
#

god I love the berserkir axes

#

sometimes I just don't wanna wait on my eitr, I wanna go in and rip some demons apart

vital umbra
#

they would be almost my favourite but sword and shield is bae

long locust
#

ever since getting used to dealing with no shield on the atgeir, they're a pretty decent substitute for himminafl

#

not as much stagger abuse, but a fuck ton of damage

vital umbra
#

well i just like swords, and i also like shields, and they just so happen to be atleast reliable in almost every tier.

long locust
#

yep, tbf the only swords I plan on using now that I've gone mage are mistwalker and dyrnwyn

vital umbra
#

i love the dyrnwyn so much 🤩

long locust
#

I like the mistwalker since it's just frostner but sword, plus it lets me not bring a wisp around, as for dyrnwyn it's gonna take me so long to get I might as well use it

#

I may mess with niddhog as well

not that there's a whole ton of elemental dmg in the ashlands, but it's a nice bonus

livid zenith
# gray sand HHS.

With my continuous support of HHH in ashlands (not at all optimal, but I enjoy it), HHH should be able to parry most 1 star enemies in ashlands with axes and lvl 0 blocking(if I did math correctly)

vital umbra
#

i mean grausten still looks better and is easier to acquire

long locust
vital umbra
#

might partially depend on the look you're going for

#

i think it makes cozier looking places sure..

long locust
#

fair, imo black marble is more suited to fortress style builds or just strong looking builds in general, grausten is more of a lighter stone

#

I like my base to be imposing so my current favorite combo is ashwood, black marble, and darkwood

vital umbra
#

i like cozy

long locust
#

I will say though grausten is easily the best stone floor

vital umbra
#

as little space as possible and tacky cluttered all that stuff

long locust

I try to go for scary on the outside cozy on the inside, I'll put a screenshot in #building-screenshots rq

vital umbra

#

I'm not bad at building but I'm not amazing either, I'd just say I'm good

#

ughhhh the worst part of plains basing is the random fog sometimes

vital umbra

I lost a ton of screenshots of my old bases in my last playthrough so i salvaged what i can #building-screenshots

long locust

vital umbra

brenna trophies and bone throne are very fun

#

that world is still on a local save on another computer so i'll post more another time

long locust

not a huge fan of the bone throne tbh, prefer black marble

#

love brenna trophies though, put some by my charcoal kilns, hopefully I can get a rancid remains trophy and put that by the eitr refinery

vital umbra
#

well that was when the ashlands came out, nerding out over everything, even using an ashwood bed instead of dragon 😅

plush umbra

id love to see them add a time clock to the game to tell when night ends and the day starts cuz other then the days flashing it needs something for time like the game alot

vital umbra

you can basically just build one, never done it because idc at all but i have seen it done

#

a sun-dial, otherwise a clock would not fit in the game.

vital umbra
long locust
#

oh, yeah I found that out pretty quick

#

not a fun corpse run

vital umbra
#

as far as i remember 2 starred warriors even in full ashlands armour really fucking suck

long locust
#

this is why I love and hate the staff of protection

#

on one hand, I can survive anything with it, on the other I can only survive it once

vital umbra

just have more eitr 😎

#

i dont think you can kill yourself with blood magic

long locust

you can't, and I have max eitr lmao

rain flare
vital umbra

why does it have to be the only unconquerable foe 😾

#

i can run as fast as a speeding bullet, plummet from however high i want and only take 100 damage, go days without sleeping, get hit by yagluths meteors, fight gods and armies...but not the dreaded lava...

rain flare

Swamp - endless rain
Mountains - freezing
Mistlands - mist
Ashlands - lava

Honourable mentions:
ocean - thunderstorms
Plains…… deathsquitos 🤣

languid vessel
#

i have a meme about deathsquitos somewhere

vital umbra

if lava is realistically supposed to melt you instantly then yagluths meteors should obliterate you to a fine red paste..

the logic does not coorelate for many reasons

languid vessel
vital umbra
#

good, after all the crazy supernatural shit our magical undead viking has endured its only right they can atleast manage that

languid vessel
#

i support adding proximity heat to Valheim. standing too close to lava will make you combust without fire resistance

languid vessel
#

i also want the deep north to be the more than just the mountains but flatter. i want blizzards that can kill you from the cold even with an insulating cape, snowdrifts that act like tar, beasts wandering the wasteland that could track you for miles, and caves being shelters to more than just yourself

# hollow star yea, if we're talking realism :V

Assuming you dont roast yourself by being close to it in the first place, or suffocate, I read something funny about it once. The water in your body would evaporate so quickly that your flesh would essentially "explode" on point of contact. Otherwise you wouldnt sink in much

#

Cuz lava is dense. Much more so than you.

vital umbra
#

why is there no snapping with planting crops

merry pebble
#

So you have to actually care about where you plant them 🙂

vital umbra
#

well yeah but i wish they could atleast snap off of eachother

merry pebble
#

Why? Its already so easy to space them 🤷‍♂️

vital umbra
#

wdym

merry pebble
#

Once you plant anything like 2-3 times you should be able to tell pretty precisely where there is enough space to plant another crop

vital umbra
#

...well yeah i know exactly where...but i don't want to have to be meticulous, i'm trying to be efficient with this stuff..

merry pebble
#

Planting efficiently is also quite easy, you make one line by just going sideways using "walk" and click at certain interval, preferably one that maximizes the ammount you can plant, do not move your mouse during that or after, then just use wsad to possition a bit backwards to a distance for another line of crops and repete. Now you are making evenly spaced lines of crops 🙂

hollow star
#

there are mods that give you more crop placement options

merry pebble
#

Bleh, mods...

hollow star
#

some of them are good, like the one that actually lets me plant mushrooms and berry bushes :V

vital umbra

i am almost entirely against mods....but once theres no more content being added to valheim i won't feel so guilty....if i don't see armour slots or bears by 1.0 then i am going to see them with mods 😤

opal prairie
# dark dirge whats the best weapon type for newbies?

Every weapon has it ups and downs I would try them all at least for a while and find what you are comfortable with.
Clubs are good overall and shine in the swamp.
Knives are fast and have a lunge attack (also do 6*backstab damage).
Swords are universally good.
Axes double as tool for woodcutting.
spears are a fast jab and can be thrown (you can lose your spear though).
Atgeirs have a wide range and are master in crowd control.
Bows are good for ranged and hunting.

steel mica
#

armor slots would be nice

nocturne wolf
#

What's wrong with slots that can hold anything and allow the player to organise the inventory the way they want to?

steel mica
#

i just want that 3 extra space ive had my moments where i have to do 2 trips or drop other resources just to take that one resource

opal prairie
#

We've all been there. I learned to do dedicated trips and not carry anything I'm not going to use.

steel mica
#

not me carrying 3 antler pickaxes in the swamp

merry pebble
#

I believe smiffe said that they could remove the number of slots needed for armor and the extra item (belt, wisplight,...) from the main inventory and put them separately if we would really like that 🙂 and they could only hold those specific items. Imo the way it is now works way better

opal prairie

livid zenith

Interesting

rocky widget
#

all my portals across the world get their little hut

livid zenith
#

I wish I wasn’t too lazy to do that, most of my portals go onto rocks or in trees

steel mica
rocky widget
#

i usually build a larger hub per land mass thats somewhat worth connecting and put all portals of said continent in there, then connect it to the main hub on my home continent

opal prairie
#

I have either a portal chain, means 2 portals at a location, one coming in and the other going out to the next portal in the chain, I only spent a short amount of time there, to just grab resources and be out again, so those portals don't need any protection.
Other portals are at bases and they get a room, a portal hub so to speak.
Most of the time I have 2 portal hubs, one remotely that contains portals to in frequently visited places, like abandoned forward bases and boss spots.
I'll also have a portal hub at main base that contains the portals I frequently use, the resource chains, the farming bases, the exploring portal, ...
