red seems fantastic
I only used the bloodstone sword because i thought it looked the coolest, i wanna keep my health.
I then switched to the dyrnwyn....because i thought it looked the coolest.
i do like the red hues of bloodstone so i might choose it also on the basis of it looking cool
i mean who could turn down a flaming sword
It is.
In melee it just amounts to using normally if you're someone who gets hit. Or if you're good at blocking/dodging you just allow yourself to get hit once every so often.
blue is more reliable.
That is subjective.
why, low health = close to dying...
75% HP =/= low health.
Bleh
it's 0.2% more damage per 1 hp lost right?
It works fine, its better than green, but blue still better.
Ah, the universal "I admit I am wrong" aka "Bleh"
i like status effects over raw damage
Ye. Ling damage beats it above 75% HP.
"Optimal" setup if you want to assign terms would be have one of each. Use the Ling on groups and switch to Blood when you're down to the last 2 enemies or vs. a single, powerful enemy.
lightning berserkir axes for the win
Which, I do carry both Axes.
And I do switch when down to 2 enemies or vs. a single, powerful enemy.
In my last main character which i lost to some local save on another character, had lightning bow, axes, shield & dyrnwyn, that was the loadout.
I would never put Ling on a bow.
But that is a preference based on math and observation.
works just fine
i remember also my last playthrough, first time through the ashlands iiii...looted half of the entire ashlands so i could get every variant of every fucking weapon and fully upgrade them π
I think literally like half or a third of the biome
anyone got tips for fighting the queen
Are you using magic or melee?
Regardless of strategy, bring ooze bombs or preferably bile bombs
Really good tool for handling broods (5 stamina per use of bomb)
Bombs are good.
Demolisher and Himmin recommended for adds as well.
And bring a second weapon as your main "hitting boss" option.
Food remains the most important factor.
melee
oh my god my stamina is recovering so slow
Bring root harnesk, lingering stam mead, food is up to you (I recommend 2 hp 1 stam if this is your first time), himmin, mistwalker, spinesnap (frost arrows) and bombs.
kk
avoid taking damage
Tasty meads are great too, they stack with lingering stamina mead
ah thanks, didn't think of that
make sure to deal lots of damage to her
when she dies you defeat her and things happen with stuff and you get objects
and its all like cool and stuff
wow thanks
idk if a boss has ever done that
Bring at least 1 stack of Tasty Mead.
kk
If you take too much damage then you die, and that means you lose, but you also respawn, so you didn't really lose, your soul just tactically retreated from your body.
Uhhh before Ashlands and around when mistlands released
I just wonder if the spears got any changes because of how clunky they are
Zero changes.
And define clunky? Because I recently started using them and they have quickly become my favorite weapon in the game.
(After avoiding them for years)
Oh it's just I thought I could aim them LMAO
It's a spear and not a polearm so it's lightweight and smaller so it makes sense they would use a hammer grip style of stabbing because of the leverage
28 stab wounds
π€
Though I would have preferred a grip that came with both hands or with a shield gripping from the middle position down to the waist so it's basically a thrust
anyone else think sconces are a bit too loud?
I mean, the place sound is I guess?
but I never notice them actually making noise when lit, and I use them everywhere
hi all
Are there any Ukrainians here?
I'm looking for a company to play with but I don't know English well
Just listening to the Ashlands oceanic theme in Sea minor
Truly and epic for the ages that one
π₯°π₯°π₯°
Inb4 Deep North soundtrack is heavy metal π
really makes you think doesn't it
it doesnt.
that would be nice
what do you think about giving the deep north some spooky vibes?
Why?
yeah why?
we don't need a haloween biome π
Hey guys I managed to get some early game boars but I can't butcher them?
Do I need a specific item?
Pre-copper you have to turn on Friendly Fire.
Post-copper you build the Butcher Knife.
turn on friendly fire, or get the slaughter knife
Smiffe, you should have actually named it the slaughter knife. π¦ That would have been cooler.
Oh Maybe I should just get the slaughter knife the Honse with antlers is a pushover from what I remember. I think I just knifed him to death
ok not spooky as in halloweeny but as in a feeling. like, adventuring through the biome should make you feel tense and afraid of what could be around the corner or beyond what you can see in a blizzard. makes not paying attention to what youre doing more risky as something could be creeping up behind you in the snow
Ok but... why?
let me get to that
I'm not British but if I was I would probably get a 50% damage bonus on knives
hello chat
you'll see what we end up doing with deep north.
it won't be a easy biome for sure π
"not easy" thankfully doesn't have to equate to "induces fear"
awww an interview i watched said it might be more on the chill side
I'd be more affraid of the Yggrasil branch falling down on my head to be honest π€
Yeah, but what Red is pushing for is "Alien Isolation in snow"
And plz for the love of Odin, no.
I played music while finishing alien isolation π€
aight dont speak for me, im not pushing for hard horror
π
Some of us do not want anything to do with the horror genre whatsoever.
π
it's very hard to replicate the fear players get from the first encounter with a blue troll π
Ehh
thats a strong position to stand, you don't like spooky things??
it adds a unique challenge not seen anywhere else in the game (ashlands is more of a rushing to get a base down, mistlands has the verticality aspect, swamp has you dealing with constant wetness, etc)
it leads to more engagement with the game but in a different manner than just pure difficulty
it doesnt need to be the whole biome, just some tones here and now
frost caves are spooky as fuck when i'm in light armour π€£
I'm not a horror-game fan either.
I do like the Alien franchise tho π€
How to put this...
Fuck. No.
Horror games are scary
We got ghosts and zombies and bugs and all the scary stuff .. we do not need spooky (aside from a jack-o-turnip) in my humble opinion π
the game already has scary things, wraiths, abominations, the ashlands at night, the mist of the mistlands... like...
I am not playing alien isolation because my heart will actually explode
I hope the deep north is kinda scary, cuz that seems only fitting for a variety of reasons..
i am not playing any horror game because i would not be able to sleep anymore π
πΏ
I'm the oposite. I never get scared π
the swamps are scary as it stands imho...
I don't find Deep North being soft horror fitting for any conceivable reason beyond someone just wanting horror for the sake of it.
so all those "scary" things just feel cringy
i am neither of these positions, i want to have the shit scared out of me....or have something attempt to π€
here you go. enjoy π
God the spear is actually so goofy looking the way it's held π
i don't really get jumpscared...i get like, stressed out by tense situations, and i get fearful in anticipation of something happening..
Yes, but if you look past that it has one of the (if not the) highest attack speeds in the game.
I would love if the deep north had a bit of an ominous vibe, end-game snowy wasteland...
then go play some horror game ? I mean .. valheim is not in that genre as far as I am concerned it has scary enemies but no horror elements in my opinion...
if it would turn horror i would have to stop playing because i can not take that π
The ashlands at night with a full inventory and no light source was a fucking experience...
Yeah I mean try doing thrusts with your arm and then try doing it using the hammer grip. The hammer grip is faster and has more leverage
Any faster and it would be too fast
the swamps at night are not ominous when you have like bronze armour?, worrying about a wraith?
Oh there is a joke about training the up-down hammer fist motion in there somewhere... but Smiffe will time me out if I make it π
We need to go faster
Thats the kind of vibe i mean, Although of course i am just way too good to get scared by anything anymore in the game π....but i kinda miss that thrill..
fighting a troll without knowing how resistances or rolling or parrying worked..
got jumpscared by one two days ago swooshing in from behind me... me heart was racing for like 15 min after ...that is all the horror i can handle π
Found a single open-air part of the Meadows that has 56 Dandelions in it.
Yup, marking this for later.
ehh?...why so enthusiastic for them?
chickin fodder
beech seeds
Feasts? And I remember one of the meads needs them.
and chickins eat them
Meadows feast is like 4 Dandelions per iirc.
no i am kinda sad to leave this discussion... but i need to get a move on and get real money from the bank as my beverage delivery service only accepts hard cash... bummer
I also need to fill the row in the chest dedicated to them, so that's like 4 stacks at least.
Okay so
If I don't look for boars I can find 20 of them on my ass
BUT IF I LOOK FOR BOARS I get none...
yeah, boar spawn eggs when..
spawn boar <level> <amount> π
The game knows π
smiffe aaddd spawn eggs
when I play. I just tell the game "I will go out picking mushrooms"
and I run into 100's of deer and boars
I also bought 3 "serving tray"s because I thought you placed them on the table...
Okay the spear is now my favorite funny. I love throwing it point blank LMAO
add like pokeballs so i can throw wild askvin at my friends
Me with Blueberries.
I just found 2 1 star boars. Taming time
I love how one of the rune stones says "go to them quietly" but in actual reality is you piss them off and let them chase for 10 miles back to your base
Morgen gjall.
hiya
SwampFeast is longer than the damn table π
I just lost the other boar...
It should be around where it spawned
No it was following me but it veered off when I got I back to base
Going through Burial Mounds with Stagbreaker...
Boars try to return to where they spawned if they lose aggro
ALL SHALL KNOW THE POWER OF THE ORI
That's a LOOOONG trip
It won't be able to get all the way there if it goes too far from you, as it will be unloaded.
Lemme see if I can find it
Oh I think it's gone then...
It's fine if I can breed the 1 star I think there's a chance to get a 1 star
yes it is π
It doesn't despawn or anything, it just stops moving until you're close again
then you just kill the ones with no star and you are guarnteed only stard ones from then on
Were the big stonehenge rock circle things ever meant to do anything or be used for anything, or are they just there for aesthetic
Aesthetic.
they give yag location
They have a chance to spawn a vegvisir or fuling berserkers
Anyone else think Yellow Mushrooms need more uses?
true
Another one π
I really wish they add crafttable for dismantlig gear. Would love to dismantle gear for the materials back
They're now used in berserkir mead
or even just half the materials back
It's a start.
Gives them 1 use I π
Black Metal Chests were added 3 years ago?
Propably during H&H patch when Tar were introduced.
I lost it...
They're also used to make both currently available stamina meads, and are good food before making a cauldron
Both stamina meads are worse than Tasty.
So they are used until the player understands math π€·ββοΈ I guess that counts as a use?
I will give you they are an upgrade to run HSS pre-Cauldron though.
i like to use stamina meads still, you need to stop doing things to use tasty mead.
sometimes that just does not work out
increasing stamina regen versus give me stamina now i need it now.
The sole scenario where stamina pot is better than Tasty is swimming.
And fishing, and harpooning
Interesting.
If in a situation where i cannot easily avoid the enemy, stop blocking sprinting dodging or attacking, i cannot benefit from the faster stamina regen.
Wait are hairs now visible with helmets?
i wonder w hat all that small updates are that are applied to the game i find one every few days to be installed, but it never says anything about them anywhere on steam... maybe they are all hotfixes with super small stuff being deployed? Does anyone know?
If i can find the opening to kite the enemy, get atleast a few meters away, i think tasty mead is better yes...
Okay maybe I should have given my viking hair...
There is a way to chance appearance when you find one Merchant.
goodnight π§‘
Hildir?
Hildr is the second merchant.
Damn Hildir is going to give my viking a fresh fade? That's π₯
You find her, she gives you quest locations, you go kill bosses, she sells you stuff.
the barber kit can be bought without doing any bosses prior
I found her since since some time but I didnt know she gives you quest locations?
Something something that one really bad miles morales comic about him becoming Thor the god of thunder and saying
"BY ODIN'S FADE" π₯
There's a map near her you can interact with
There is a small map table in front of her, clicking it gives you locations on your map.
My god
Just to add, there are some new hair and beard styles that are only available with the Barber kit table.
i need to go check it out π
also i am debating if i should record more episodes for youtube or just go play my private game or ask my son to go on with our game together or go to the kitchen and make some cake or something or go draw some... indecisive π¦ coffee first maybe i can decided if i got enough caffein π
Just did it, I actually found one of those locations by accident and got the silver chest lol, ty all
The next question would be how the hell am I going to find hildir
The first merchant in the black forest is already hard enough to find that it took me like 5 hours to find one on my last playthrough
11
I usually stumble across the markings while i am out and about sailing and finding new land π
Are there things I should do before I kill the deer?
Hildir is easier than Haldor IMO. She spawns at Meadows 3000 to 5100 meters from center. While Haldor has larger area where he can spawn (1500 to 8000 meters) since you can find Black Forest to 8000 meters from center.
I have almost every item from the stone age minus the cape and helmet
And leveled my spear to 3 and my axe to 3
Okay nvm I made the cape and I look dripped up
I won't wear it because it looks a little odd
You sound like you are ready to chase the boss.
Though it's mega drip π₯
It just doesn't go well with the fit
I'm going to poke it to death with a long pointy stick
NO CAPES!
yes
No. You just bring multiple so when one breaks you switch.
Bronze pick and beyond are upgradeable.
Metal picks are all better for mining ores.
Antler pick remains the best for terraforming.
How many antler picks should I bring heading to the dark forest and praying to god almighty that a troll can eff off
is it wanted that the fermenter animation doesn't stop when it's finished ? that could help...
I would say zero.
Do an exploration run first, marking where you find the ore.
Return later on a mining-only run with the 3 you can build from killing Eikthyr.
Okie!!!
Hopefully I can find a catacomb and explore aswell
Getting in the habit of having a specific goal when leaving base and taking only what you need for that goal is good practice for inventory management.
Otherwise you run into the "Irongate plz, your inventory system sucks because it doesn't allow me to carry one of every single thing and also have space to pick up every possible thing."
I bought a club Incase the catacombs get rough
Take your first few catacombs slowly and cautiously
Personally I do exploration run where I'm marking all ores, dungeons, and blueberry clusters.
Then I will set out to clear dungeons (as the items gained stack, so you can do multiples in one run without a space concern).
Then I will do a mine-specific run.
AS SOON AS I ENTER THE FOREST A TROLL ENDS UP SPAWNING
It's quite easy to feel that they're going quite well and get over confident. That's when you die
Spears slaughter Trolls.
Okay I might have to either bow it down, or start spearing the effer
Stab them in the dick and roll their attacks.
Knives are pretty decent vs trolls too
But that requires getting close and that has risks
I bought a love potion from the witch so I should go troll hunting...
Hours of Elden Ring have prepared me for this moment
I killed it with a spear with like getting hit once because a greywarf butted in and hit me from my dodge
Greydwarves are one of the most annoying enemies in any game I have played.
What's more annoying from other biomes than a greydwarf?
Greydwarves are the most annoying and I've played over 2,2k hours.
No. I've been playing for years and beaten every boss multiple times without ever going to other biomes.
drakes
ah its a meme. its not about objectivitiy here
I am not memeing.
well, annoyance doesn't always correlate to which enemy has the highest stats
I am saying that I find Greydwarves annoying as fuck and one of the most annoying enemies in any game I have played in the past 20+ years.
Im saying you are wrong
greydwarfs have a ranged attack, weak damage all around, AI that has them avoid you for a lil while and they accompany you if you live in meadows or black forest from after eikthyr all the way to the end
That's now how opinions work.
yes just memeing
So... you're a troll. Got it.
Iron Gate succeeded creating the most annoying creature in gaming history
better trolling that make the most stupid claim
they make a good candidate for most annoying~~, but i have to repeat i'll give that spot to drakes because i don't use bows~~
Their ai is what makes them annoying. π
it's a very common opinion
Althought... Will-o-Wisp in TES IV: Oblivion... π
ooohoho clannfear
Drakes and gjalls
Ah the classic "I disagree, so you are stupid." Love that one...
nah, I can just claim what I want. no reason to elaborate
considering the thing we're making claims about is opinions...yes? yes you can? you're the only one who can decide your opinion
There is https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202263390056357928 channel for memesters. π
Also elaboration was never asked for, you just jumped straight to assuming I'm a new player and then saying it was stupid.
Gjalls are cool tho. They are one of my favorite enemies.
oh now you want discuss
They're cool, but can't be killed effectively without a ranged attack
Starred gjalls have really good coloring.
Starred Gjalls are terrifying tho. π₯²
I love getting ganked my 10 GREYDWARVES WITH 1 2* π
Purple seekers are pretty.
by that point i have arbalest so gjalls aren't too big a problem. also because they're an actual enemy that can like...harm me, so there are stakes. meanwhile i tend to just ignore drakes and take them for a walk over the mountains because dealing with that non-threat wastes time
2 Star Seeker looks like it have taken some roids.
Winter will force the Arbalest to be good or die trying π
it's good if your playstyle compliments it
Ah, the classic βYou disagree so you must be a trollββ¦
it's good if you hate having higher DPS π
be nice of I'll get'cha both
welll, considering breaking points, in many cases arbalest can finish a fight quicker than bows
I've already moved on to other topics π€·ββοΈ
Equip a torch so they get afraid of your fire.
actually that's less a matter of breaking points and more "crossbows have higher per-shot damage, so they get to make use of the backstab bonus for more of their total-damage-per-fight"
I don't like how GREYDWARVES are smart enough to kite you and work as a team by covering the ones going for the melee with rocks. But I already killed them just by kiting them slowly
build a bonfire, and they will dance around it π
So... matching the letters...
Bows are for Bosses?
They're dead
yepp
Yeah, but at least when there is fire they don't attack you (besides throwing rocks). For the future knowledge.
And for non-bossed we have... Spears π
generally i'd say: crossbows are great for people who want to initiate the battle from range and then switch to melee, bows are great for people who want to do the entire battle with ranged
Spears initiate from range and then you pick it up to switch to melee π
Oh I used the torch to scorch them to death
initiate by making insane noise while not actually hitting anything ahem
Skill issue ahem
I figured "wait... If they're made of trees... Does that mean I can just burn them?"
That's also an option. Torches break fast tho so keep that in mind.
And indeed they burn
i'm joking, but it's not entirely wrong, since i'm relying on the crossbows' technically infinite range - their bolts don't curve down
Fire arrows are effective against them too.
Only takes 8 torches to kill Elder.
Which is fun. And a good way to level clubs.
I like Spear and Crossbow combo for some enemies, like Valkyries and Gjalls.
The first and only problem I have encountered with spears just happened today when I arrived in Swamp.
You cannot hit leeches with them due to vertical difference π
Throw it at them, collect and move back, repeat
No π
Throw it while right next to them and you immediately pick the spear back up, it's like a normal secondary attack.
I mean more generally, bows are just the safe, but more time consuming option. If you're capable, fighting bosses in melee will always be faster
Pi means "ratio of diameter to circumference"
But getting up close and personal can be scary.
Yes I know, it was a typo lol
Oh, you edited π
It's more scary for the enemies you're getting up close to
Funny typo too considering I actually study mathematics at university level
There isn't a single boss I shoot with a bow. So yes.
"I'm not locked here with you" vibes
Then tell them to stop co-opting the word infinity to mean something else πππππππππππππ
Me when I enter a Troll Cave.
Siren, that's more of a #general discussion.
I would ask to elaborate but this is the wrong chat room for that yes
Is that Fader back when he had 2 wings? π
The little house I made is getting too small π¦
Make it bigger π
I might have to relocate sooner or later
Somewhere near the shoreline
no π
And near Black Forest (not just next to the border but near enough)
Okay troll caves are pretty chill places to chill for the night assuming you've killed the troll
In general most dungeons double as safe havens once you've cleared them out
I usually try to enter a dungeon right as its about to hit night time and spend the night in the dungeon clearing enemies
so.. does anyone have a really good chest setup? I gotta upgrade my storage real bad lol. If you have any examples send em my way please!
the circle room design is pretty good
hmmm. something like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sa-8j1YON5g
yes but much smaller, then you can make a circle of chests, then stack them
I really like that format. It seems like an easy way to keep categories seperate. Thank you!
yea (:
I'm trying to think if I would prefer it if the Love Potion just immediately started "The Ground is Shaking."
How about barrels? #screenshots message
It increases troll spawn rate and makes them aggro automatically, that's almost the same thing?
Too much % chance involved imo.
Pop potion for instant raid and guaranteed trolls could be interesting. π
I hope the systems added for the love potion to work are reused in deep north for something more useful
Those barrels look much more effiecent than regular chests. I haven't used them yet so I don't know what size inventory they have. Maybe I can use barrrels + circular storage room ?
Oh okie
I died once but it was because of a skeleton oof
But so far I cleared the black forest and left some markers
I am mildly pissed that there was a hole with 15 skeletons
Wait... Question... If I quit because I am actually pissed. Does the tombstone despawn?
Sometimes a tombstone won't save if you quit the game immediately after dying. You can load an automatic character backup with the manage saves button on character select.
Oof
I didn't even see the hole I just fell straight through and quite literally 15 skeles just spawned
Where was the hole? I've never seen a hole with skeletons.
Surely you can make circular room using barrels. You can fit 3 barrels in 2x1 area quite efficiently, having total of 36 item slots (as 1 barrel has 12 item slots).
It's basically a narrow rock stairwell
I fell to the side because it was so dark and then 15 skeletons IN THE BOTTOM
Those tombstones never despawn until all the loot is collected.
Tombstones also don't spawn if you have nothing in inventory when you die. Why is this important?
Say you wanna go streaking for your corpse. If you die a second time you get an extra tombstone to provide corpse run with on the way back
So if I'm going plains streaking for example to try and grab my gear I will take just 1 cloudberry with me so that if I die to something a tombstone drops lol
I NABBED IT
How do you kill ghosts
But also WHY IS THERE AN ENTIRE ARMY IN ONE SINGLE ROOM
You want to craft Stagbreaker for that reason.
They behave like skeletons but stronger
You can tell when they're about to attack because of the sound, or just hold up a shield until you block something, then hit them back.
Wait what
OH I FORGOT I WAS SUPPOSED TO GET CORE WOOD
Stagbreaker makes skeletons into dust.
Demolisher has the same effect on the Charred.
I've been brute forcing the catacombs with a trusty club
I completely forgot about the stag breaker
Luckily it is the same skill.
One-hand clubs and two-handed clubs are both just "clubs" in terms of skill.
I normally use my flint axe
I dunno maybe I should call it quits with this catacomb because there are literally 20 of them
Just like one-handed spears and two-handed spears...
Oh wait.
Two-handed spears?
Literally what an Atgeir is.
Atgeirs have a slow attack speed and a completely different secondary attack, how is that a two-handed spear? Axes are not swords because they have the same damage type.
Slow... SLOW? You and I have different games installed.
Compared to spears, they are much slower
Guys I just got 20 cores from one catacomb
Nice haul, my best is recently 18 from one Chamber as far as I remember
I think the most I've had is 13
I don't know what I unlocked after getting core wood I was busy fighting off greys
Do items despawn?
Items despawn if they're far from a base structure such as a workbench for too long
Oops, misread.
They aren't made with core wood. Finewood bow, stagbreaker, cultivator and many build pieces are though.
Now comes the grueling grind of getting copper from one place to another
Misread.
Is it better to make a smeltry place instead of just dragging each ore one by one? Near the black forest?
Use a cart to bring all or most of the ore back in one trip
Copper is heavier than copper ore so it's easier to transport as ore
Carts π€’
Oh I forgot carts existed
What's wrong with them?
I hate them
Wait I don't think I have carts unlocked
You need bronze nails
Black forest is annoyingly hilly they're fine for like, flat terrain spaces
God damnit
The black forest isn't too hilly if your cart isn't too heavy
But flat terrain spaces that yield ores don't exist lol
Mistlands says hi.
Conversation is about carts. Carts don't have that much use in the mistlands when all is said and done
Mountains is the best biome for carts, go down a cliff in one and try your best to survive
Uh... hauling scrap from the swords and armor you destroy?
You don't need much of it though, the grind fir metal is nothing like prior biomes.
i did that once, plenty rocks got in my way
when i reached the buttom it was just a bunch of tunnels going through big rocks
The main resources you actually want to gather en masse can all be portaled
Krom says hi.
Thing costs like 70 bronze.
Yes, pieces exist, that's not really the point. The mandatory chores for metals is just, low
Krom is mandatory.
Goodnight π
How many copper ore is needed for 1 bar?
The highest upgrade costs 75 pieces of metal. With the new crafting skill, lucky players have a chance to keep 75 pieces of metal
Bronze is 2 copper and 1 tin
One ore makes one bar. Two copper and one tin makes one bronze.
And yeah that's the clearer explanation.
It's one of the grindier metals in the game for sure
That's why bronze items are cheaper than other metal equipment
8 bars for one weapon just wouldn't work with later metals unless they became rarer
hlo
Oh okay wait lemme just get the first bronze stuff so I can make like 5 bronze bars
Wsp yall
eveninag yall
Can i join anyone's world or smth
or should i say Gjall KEKW LMAO LOL ROFL. okay ima start lurking now
blob they on like ashlands and stuff
They're "fake" cheaper. 8 bronze requires more processing power than 20 iron.
A bronze sword is actually more expensive than an iron sword
That being said, there is a universe where having extremely high crafting skill might make it cheaper now
Only if you get lucky too
Cause chances of getting extra bronze from crafting is something other metals don't have
It's nice when it happens.
I remember setting aside a goal of making and upgrading a porcupine. I got 2 porcupines from the initial craft, which Is more expensive than the upgrades. So I have a second upgraded porcupine as well lol
Wow so It takes like 20 copper ore and 10 tin ore to make 10 bronze bars
And it takes 8 bronze bars to make an axe-
Hello my fellow dead midgardians
You know for big bars of ore it sure takes EIGHT!? FOR JUST AN AXE
Yeah, it's one of the most expensive progression grinds in the game, despite being the first time you get metals.
Copper and tin are painful
2 copper & 1 tin for 1 bronze ingot
I recommend finding a place with many copper nodes in a blackforest and just setting up a temporary foundry there
Chop nearby trees for coal then constantly smelt while mining
My goal for both the black forest and swamps is to progress will getting the fewer amount of metals possible, bronze because the progression grind is so expensive to begin with, and iron because while iron is plentiful and less painful to get, you will need a lot more of it so it pays off to limit how much you use early on
You have way less weight to carry around when it's all processed into ingots, and even better if you craft your weapons tools etc on site as well
Bronze armor isn't really worth it either when maxing out the troll set is so accessible
Anyway does anyone know how to raise the low quality draw distance to further away? I wanna see distant lands, even if its just the landscape
You can easily fight bonemass with the basic club too, fully upgraded
Keeping the objects identically loaded
And yeah that's how I do it personally. I don't build big bases, I build small temporary outposts for crafting on site, and once I'm done I dismantle it and move those resources to the next site
It's linked to the detail level in graphical settings but sadly the game doesn't go that far even on max settings
I just have a portal to use bed at home
I know im maxxed out
Then mayb look into graphical mods
Its so painful i gotta build a house and 10 trolls spawn every time
Why does it take 8 bars to make an axe. The bars are literally effing massive
Fun tho i like videogame
Because i said so
Trolls don't spawn that often
The first time in the game where I feel like the heavy armor is actually worthwhile is mountains. Before then nothing feels worth
Also troll dens make for good shelter
The size of the bars doesn't matter, it's what the player has to do to obtain them
We went on a massive mining spree on a distant island and got like 3 karve trips and still not enough to make pickaxes for 2 people
But then mountains gives you fenris π just rock your banded shield / silver shield
Most likely not possible, as the world generates based upon your view.
Meaning the moment you start seeing the pine trees of a Black Forest coastline, that block is generated, even if it isn't shown at your map yet.
Moving that even further away may tax your system more and from what I've understood, the Devs want to keep this game accessable for potato machines too.
Just my luck then haha
Fenris armor needs too much luck, which is why I always make silver armor
I play valheim with light armor until end of mistlands, and in ashlands I prefer light armor to the heavier set
No speed penalties is just too good
I use asksvin armor and troll armor, just not fenris.
https://youtu.be/3Y8i7JrI5ek?si=SyLNosLYHd_LRjyc explain this then
That's such a slog aaaaaaugh
Fenris requires the rng of finding enough cultist caves, usually scanning multiple different mountains. Oftentimes one mountain has enough silver on it to make and fully upgrade a set of wolf armor.
There is also the other upside, that being that now you actually have a stonecutter, you have a real use for that stone rather than needing to make loads of storage space for it
Stop complaining and start mining for 6 hours straight
You got a potion for that. π
I don't mind searching multiple frost caves. The convenience of the increased speed is way too high for when you need it
Real
Fenris for corpse runs is goated
Also the "luck" part means that by the time you get a cultist trophy you usually have enough materials for plenty of upgrade levels
For me it's like I don't wanna go out of my way to grind stone. The end is never in sight.
But when I grind silver, the end is very much in site and it gets me even more stone
Cultists trophies aren't the problem, I never find enough fenris hair. I know what to look for, but it doesn't generate because of my luck.
So I usually just mine out the veins
Also yeah, the fenris hairs are usually the problem for me
the fur wasnt a problem, but it took me 12 caves to get 1 cultist trophy
Damn I got lucky on my first playthrough, managed to get the fenris set in like 2/3 caves
There's plenty of Fenris hair you can miss if you don't break certain things
Yesterday, true story, i was building a boat dock shack to make a temp base on new island, 2 trolls (1 normal the other 1*), started chasing my sister and she came screaming to me, i killed them painstainkingly, found 2 troll and 1 mini cave in the process, 5 minutes later another troll
Hanging off the walls or ceilings of certain rooms
There was nothing to break, you need to get lucky for those to generate
Troll hide delivery
Now i have way too much troll hide. What do i do with it lol, ive got the armor at lvl4 (maxed atm) does it even have any uses besides that
Most of this for me would be "oh nice, I get my troll armor without needing to seek them out".
Though 1 star trolls are quite rough.
The barber table ! Or your sister can upgrade her set
It's used to make the iron spear, but you don't need much
From maxxing out the fenris set every playthrough, I can tell you that most of the time the limiting factor is the cultist trophy, not the hair, can be the case if you get lucky with the trophy drop though
Shes using copper armor, but maybe ill ask her if she wants more movement instead, as i have more defense since we can upgrade troll to 4 faster than upgrade bronze to 2
If it's really something you can't use you could always just make a spare set of troll armor, or if you don't need spare use it to level up your crafting skill and chuck what you make in the obliterator
She can keep bronze helmet (no speed penalty) and swap the rest to troll for way more mobility
But if she's struggling it's OK to stay on heavy armor
TROLL ARMOR THE BEST
But... BARBER TABLE? iron age thing? The only table we have in bronze atm is cartography, which is nice
It's hard to die on normal difficulty with heavy armor and holding your shield up
Bronze armor is only worth it in a very large group, as it will take too long to find enough trolls. The armor point difference is very small.
Troll armor is equivalent in defense to bronze armor of 1 level lower
You unlock it with the second trader
Yes but i hate how it looks lol. Also anyone know how i can lose a trolls attention faster
Kill them faster
The fucking what
I love how the troll armor gives the sneaky buff. Trolls are well known for their ability to not stand out at all
And the more defense you have, the less effective getting more defense helps. So the difference between tier 4 troll and bronze armor is kinda less than the difference between tier 1 bronze and troll
Lol
Okay I might be spoiling too much here XD I will not say more
Just run
Bro Troll's are so ez to kill
Eikthyr power my beloved
u dont need bow if u can dodge the attacks
The bow charges way too slowly, they usually catch up to me. Although my KD ratio is like 5
Easy, but time consuming in the early stages, maybe they just wanna do other things
Im bad at dodging in valheim, i got that god of war ragnarok dodge mechanic mindset
You mean rock
no the log
I prefer fighting trolls in RagnarΓΆk
the logged trolls and normal trolls with no weapon
Oh yeah true
Likewise I hate the gjalls in the mistlands. I detest them with a passion. Not because I can't kill them, I can kill them without much difficulty now, but it basically ruins any plans for what I wanted to get done in that in game day because I not only have to waste time fighting it I have to kite it about and move away from where I was going
Don't forget troll take more damage from headshots
Rolling while sneaking is the same as rolling while blocking
yall have any server i can join :}
Never noticex that. But what about non log trolls
Dodging works the same for all attacks
its easy to dodge anything if u just practice
I think its like 1.5x iirc
Although for any attack short enough to be jumped over, jumping is always better than rolling
Non log trolls are even easier than log trolls, you can bait them into attacking thing air with back and forth spacing and then they jurt stand still letting you hit them for a few seconds
Trolls have a 1.5 weakness to pierce. Their head has a 2.0 weakness to pierce.
Log trolls this doesn't work so well because their attacks have extra reach, so gotta rely on the dodge roll for good damage
Good to know. GoW has undodgable aoe attacks so i find it pretty weird that the effect is aoe and supposedly its the same as a log
Slap attacks are funny
Wouldnt heavy armored things be weak to blunt? Or is it opposite on thick natural troll hide
Trolls are resistant to blunt
Non log trolls with a knife in the early game if you keep close enough for them to attack at all times follow a pattern of 4 slap attacks, all with a gap between for hitting back, and then a 5th slap followed by a ground pound quite quickly.
Back and forth spacing so the slaps hit mid air turn any affair into just executing a simple, repeating pattern till the troll dies
It's quite trivial to kill them without needing to even dodge roll when you know how
I'm sure there's a mixture of both players here.
I've always played alone, but I've wanted to try playing with friends at some point
That feels wrong
Siren
Clubs would be too strong against them otherwise
With my sister (i host privately)
#memes-and-clips message
Jumping around trolls allows you to get a lot of safe damage, although it only works if you start the fight behind the troll or have a high enough run skill to get around them.
Oh
Its our first playthrough
no one's hosting a normal valheim server its either modded or hardcore
Can i join ur world to checkout?
Enjoy ! The mistakes too
Blob do you know what considers as a good spot for a base?
How far have you guys gotten in valheim right now?
Did anyone in your group get addicted to building yet ? First playthrough had me staying up until 4 am making houses
Whatever you deem a good spot
I make my first base in meadows next to an ocean and black forest. If it's near eikthyr, even better.
Wrong reply
@craggy mason Same But not now. welp Now its all about beating the game
@nocturne wolf Always explore ur whole island before making a base
I kinda have this problem where I've experienced too much of the game to do new playthroughs with people who are experiencing it for the first time, so any servers I join are likely people who have progressed far, or hard-core. But in both cases I think I'm most likely to spend most of the time playing alone anyway, so I just stick to solo
#building-screenshots message this is probably the only open spot on the island near a black forest but i might explore more spots
Like my experience of the game will skew their difficulty
If there is alot of biomes like swamp blackforest mountains all close to each other make a base there cause silver, bronze, iron will be easy to transport
In general it's recommended to look for flat ground, and close to water so you can easily sail off to explore
And then make a portal hub to connect to POI
No sorry, its not much anyway. I understand why youre asking that tho ive been in that mindset for quite a few games by now. If you wanna just see the base and such i can make a few screenshots
Quicktime choice event moment
Also, you don't HAVE to set up one huge base with absolutely everything.
Having a centralised base with many of the essentials is fine, but many things can be done quite easily through portals without needing to teleport metals. Namely, farms. My farms are always separate from wherever it is I'm usually setting up
I like to build a plains farm right next to lots of cloudberries, but the same spot might not be well suited to grabbing other resources
We have a 3 building hilda-viking age village episode base atm. Was thinking of moving to a flatter area today
Likewise having farms in meadows or black forest near where there is a patch of mushrooms or berries (ideally both)
do the animals breed if your away?
Its hard to build more in that spot and its getting cluttered
They don't breed, but they do age
Valheim sex update?
I'm sure there's a mod for that somewhere, if you look long and hard enough.
oh so that sorta makes Ranches hard to maintain because you have to be always present
most people keep them at home
Me, on day 60, still preparing for the elder while some random guy is in the iron age on day 9
Not always - there's limits on how much animals can breed within a given space. Once that's reached there's nothing left to do but wait for them to age, so you can safely leave.
on my last playthrough i had 20 dogs
I make a wolf pit to kick greylings into
they weren't getting hungry when a random boar/deer/greydwarf wanders in and gets their head bitten off
i named everyone of them
DOGS
Can you have cocker spaniels in valheim
Tamed wolves
no, only massive dire wolves the size of a horse
Where
Mountains, the fourth biome
Yeah most people do keep their animals at home in game, I don't mostly as a choice simply because raids don't happen when I'm not about, so the tamed animals are safer in a separate spot
Which age
yall wanna join a hardcore server?
they should add it so when you tame a wolf, if you name it "princess" iturns into a pitbull
And with the best will in the world, I think I have set up enough defense for them, but some raids which are not dangerous to me at all are incredibly dangerous for the tamed animals. Like surtlings and blobs
πΆ
I found mountains earlier than swamp (still havent found swamp)
but you're only meant to go there after swamps
It's best not to go in before killing bonemass
What to feed to tame, also how to feed? The e on an item to "use (item) on what?"
swamps start generating something around 2000 meters from the world's center, while mountains don't have a direct restriction like that
As someone else answered its mountain (dubbed the "silver age"), though its actually quite possible to tame wolves without beating any of the games bosses. Though, you'd have to know what you were doing and it's probably faster to just play the game as intended
My first mini cave (with 11 surtling cores, compared to 2nd with only 2) was on a mountain
You can definitely try to tame wolves before you're done in the swamps though
unintended but normal, just rare
So does the elder always so far away and is there a swamp near it
No, and no
Woah lucky moment then
the closest elder usually isn't on the spawn island, but sometimes it is.
swamp can be near it, but the game doesn't force that or anything, it's purely up to chance
Elder location is random, nearby biomes too
I mean, there might be swamp near the elder, it's just rng
You can easily find swamp by sailing around and seeing places with dead trees
Unlucky moment then. Also do more tin always spawn far from spawn? I got like 3 stacks in a short day there, while near home i got a stack in 2 days
Tin spawns anywhere in the black forest near water
Copper too
or distant islands with suspiciously flat terrain just above sea level - only swamps shape their ground like that
I hope next boss doesnt spawn at the edge of the map then lol
Tin spawns near water, so if you're looking for tin explore black forest near the rivers and on the coast
Nah don't worry
Boats and portals will help a lot with travels
Haha i got enough tin now dw
If you haven't already, craft bronze nails, so you can see the recipe for the first boat that isn't a raft
Anyway do i tame boars with E on mushrooms to "use item on what?"
Just drop the shrooms on the ground near the boars and let time do its magic
If not, how?
All of the first 5 bosses should have some spawns not too close to the edge. There's actually multiple spawn points for them, the vegvisir will just point you in the direction of whichever is closest to you
Oh.
Oh.
The 6th and 7th boss spawns necessarily do spawn close to the edge of the Map but that's more to do with their biomes restrictions than the bosses
You wanna keep the boar in an enclosure, drop food in there, then stay some distance away so they don't perma agro you
Then the vegvisir was wrong with eikthyr, i found a location much closer to the stones than that
animals only eat while calm, so you can either trap them in an enclosure first or keep in mind where they first spawned - (unless tamed) enemies/animals will always walk back to where they first spawned when they're calm, so leaving food there can tame them. just know that once tamed, they lose this anchor point and start wandering randomly
Make a little house for the piggies and lure them in
once an animal has eaten, it's fed for 10 minutes, after a total of 30 minutes of an animal being fed, loaded in and calm at the same time, it's tamed.
Should i clear the forest around the elder?
I think boars that are tamed near their runestone spawns retain that anchor point even while tamed, though their offspring do not
The elder will take care of that for you don't worry
yes, animals spawned from a spawn point do, that also includes the boars spawned from abandoned villages
You don't need much space to fight him.
so technically 3 food items are enough, but that's assuming that not a second goes wasted on the animal getting frightened or not being loaded in
A lil food trail?
Ohno
I should move my house then
Only prep you NEED to do before the elder is to scout out immediate surroundings for trolls or greydwarf spawners and clear any that exist. Main tip for fighting the elder is to use his summoning altar against him
You make them chase you, make sure they land hits from time to time so they keep agro, then you make them chase into the piggy house, close the door, toss food, profit
i think they mean letting them chase you into the house and then closing it with them inside and dropping food before waiting for them to calm down. (gotta be a small distance away from them, they won't calm down while they can still see or hear you)
You don't have to, you can have multiple settlements. Also, portals
Weve still got at least 2 troll caves and a mini cave to clear before the elder
You can also try to tame animals without having them trapped but if they do spot you, things get REALLY messy
Not enough cores for another atm
that's what i tend to do with lox
Trap them by building around them? Minecraft style?
Keep doing the burial chambers and get yourself a nice supply of cores, they're handy
It works with lox because they're borderline blind and thick lol
Can work but tedious if they agro and run around
well ideally you'd build the house first and then lead them inside π
Dont i gotta find a new one each time tho?
Yeah of course but they're plenty throughout the map
Either build around them, or build elsewhere and lure the angry boar there. Shut the door, run away and give it time to cool off
And later on cores become a renewable resource too
Without spoilers surtling cores are renewable, just not in the black forest
I know, ive been spoiled for a few things in a beginner tips video
||some surtler creature i think||
Anyway its best i stop being active here for a moment, ive got all my critical gameplay questions answered
Have fun
||if you mine the fire geysers of the swamp into the ground so it's entirely surrounded by water, the surtling creatures they spawn instantly die as the water kills them, turning them into renewable coal and surtling core farms||
Thanks
I cannot resist clicking on spoilers for some reason. At least i guessed the biome correctly! Thanks for the info
@leaden elbow Best to avoid being here to avoid getting many spoilers, many of us wish we could relive that first experience not knowing what to expect. It's a very nice experience, just go and have fun, hugin will tell you what you need to know when you need to know it!
Agreed.
Yeah is probably good advice. I've explored the mistlands blind and spoiler free. It's been hard, painful but so worth it
If the ashlands shakes gameplay up anywhere near as much as mistlands does it will be great
Whatβs the order of all biomes
Where I need to go starting from meadows or Black Forest
after black forest -> swamp -> Plains -> mistlands -> ashlands
mountains between swamp and plains
meadows -> black forest -> swamp -> mountains -> plains -> mistlands -> ashlands -> deep north (currently has nothing)
π
oops, forgot about that. The only reason I'm going back to the mountains is to try and find the cave lake...
cave lake is super rare
π pretty important stage, can't make any plains equipment without the artisan table, and by extension can't enter the ||queen's dungeon||
this might just be the most unlucky playthrough ever
26 nights and counting, no 2 star askvin
one day (:
Do you need the 2 star for any specific reason?
not rly, just to have it
can you tame them?! π±
amazing. I just got to ashlands for the first time yesterday. I had no clue
ive just been really unlucky with 2 stars this playthrough, the wolves also took me about 20 days to find one
yea 2 star askvin are big and purple, they are kinda cute
they hit mega hard tho, can almost 1 shot u
just a piece of advice, you in fact can not block a 2 star warrior ( i had to find out the hard way)
i mean you can, but you need like 80+ block with the best tower shield in the game
max health also plays a big role
so do i need to find the witch in order to use the new feast meals?
yes, she's the only source of their unique ingredients
i see
I think if you have a friend supporting you with staff of protection you can probably parry 2 star warriors alright
maybe, their hits do 320dmg so if their blood magic is high enough
A staff of protection can always parry any blockable attack because even if it breaks you take no stagger
Even without levels blood magic is 200 shield minimum. If you have been granted that by a friend and you're a more melee build, stack that on tip of your armor, hp and block power, you will be fine
Block power, armor and health won't do anything with the staff of protection
It won't affect the shield, but it reduces the power of an incoming hit by 200. Parrying with your hp 120 hit points worth of damage is a much smaller ask than 320
seems with at least 309 max health, level 40+ blocking and a level 3 flametal tower shield, you can block their swing but not their thrust
309 sure is a lot though
You don't take any damage if a hit breaks your bubble, so it completely reduces the hit to nothing
oh interesting
That's why it's so op. Even if the shield has one health, you can get hit by anything and parry any blockable attack
You can with level 1 blocking
With maximum health and a level 3 carapace buckler you should be able to parry up to 342 damage at skill 0 and 418.9 damage at skill 100
A 2-star charred warrior's strongest hit only has 320 damage
It's not enough for Lord Reto's weakest attack though. That has 420 damage.
I parried him, you just get staggered a little bit
My calculator is probably wrong then
It's not, it just calculate what you need to parry without getting staggered
but you can parry much stronger hit than it shows but you take damage from the extra you couldn't block and that stagger you
i had 240 hp, and 40 levels in blocking and go 1 shot through my block ( it wasnt a parry tho, which might be why i got 1 sho)
It's supposed to calculate how much you can parry, including what will stagger you
You definitely need to parry to block them
(unless you have this setup)
thats fair
i didnt learn until recently how to parry warriors, so was not an option
the delayed attacks were really hard for me to learn
The only way to tell if they're doing a feint is the sound, but you can just try to parry twice
nothing in the ashlands has given me more problems than warriors
yea i got it now, but at the beginning it was hard
frostner vs iron mace in mountains?
iron mace is usually better in mountains
Both. Frostner against those who are not immune to Frost.
actually, not sure, wolves aren't immune to frost iirc
i like the frostner for wolves, the slow helps a lot with kiting them around
Correct.
so it's kinda only moder and stone golems against which frostner sucks
wolves die easily tho
until you get stun locked by 3 or more
Silver knife annihilate wolf, for the golem, you can parry it once and the knife will keep it staggered constantly and it will die in 10 seconds
Frostner is also good inside the Frost Caves
hmm
im not so sure about the silver knive being able to kill a golem so quickly
a bigger weapon won't help you there π
thats true
golem you just man mode with pickaxe after a parry. it's hilarious
For golems I parry then use iron mace secondary
thats honestly my biggest fear of a hardcore run, is getting stun locked by wolves. im pretty sure i can go no deaths pretty comfortably up to the mountains otherwise
I happen to have a playthrough where I am at the mountain, I can go kill a golem real quick
Never ever use pickaxe agaisn't golem, use an actual weapon
don't be there at night, always use bonemass buff?
it's certainly at a bigger disadvantage than the silver sword, but less than frostner
the level 4 iron mace deals with a golem in a few seconds lol
im really bad at egoing my buff useage
why not use pickaxe against golems, it deals sooo much dmg
Using a battering ram to kill them instantly is fun once you've gone to ashlands
pickaxe isnt a weapon
it really does not
It's too slow
but then agian, I also jumped on the backs of Loxes and "mined" them π
don't get deceived by yellow numbers
it's still worse than an iron mace despite the x2 pickaxe damage weakness
Even with the queen's power it won't do much
i mean roll technique with pickaxe is probably the safest option
Rolling with a mace would be safer because the attack is faster
- slow attack speed
- no combo so no higher damage combo finisher
- you have to switch to it after a parry which wastes a lil bit of time
- its hitbox reaches below your feet, so unless you stand on top of the golem, you're gonna get multi-target penalty because of the terrain
yea thats true
i wouldn't say so, locks you in place for longer than a mace
If you can somehow get on top of a golem, could you stay up there and pickaxe it safely?
i fight trolls the same way tbh, roll into them with spear
you slide off very slowly so you have to recenter regularly
spike trolls can't hit you up there, but club trolls can with their overhead smash
...trolls? stone golems
I wouldn't call the pickaxe safer, it's just hilarious to kill something with it that isn't a greydwarf. And it's certainly not easier
i usually dodgeroll with iron mace and buckler π no fancy schmancy changing around stuff... three hits after the golem has done his and with 3 rounds normally it is history π
it's just rare to even find people who don't only have one answer vs every single enemy (arrows)
Arrows are my last answer vs every single enemy (except drakes and gjalls
)
same, the only ranged weapon i use is crossbows, and i only start fights with them
ironically, the one time i used bows heavily, i levelled them to 100 and did so by shooting stone golems with wooden arrows
i do use bows to get sneakhits in on some foe... but really no use on golems they are tough and id' rather not waste time and arrows π get in there with the iron mace and be done with it quickly there is other stuff to be doing than pelting stonegolems with arrows π
I tested it, it took 5 full knife combo after a parry, which takes 7 seconds, so 10 seconds for the couple seconds you wait for the attack, the parry and the combos seems pretty accurate if you ask me. The golem got staggered after the 3rd knife combo, the 4th and then he died
wellp, ok, ill stick to the level 4 iron mace
yup, gets kind of annoying sometimes when someone tells you (essentially) that you're worse at the game for playing a more engaging playstyle
Wolf are the real danger in the mountain and the knife is the best for them was just sharing how it does against golem for reference
if you're up to it, you could either use a shield/buckler to parry them and then slap them with the pickaxe, or just jump on top of them and use the pick
mace is less hassle than a pickaxe by a longshot
the mace is just not ideal agaisn't a group of wolf
100% yes, but the pickaxe is funnier
mace is just parry and the golem is dead with in a few seconds
tbf, not much is effective against a group of wolves, best bet imo is atgeir and that's assuming you aren't on a slope
meleeing with wrong weapons is basically like running with scissors. It's so much fun and people will think you're crazy π
what about a big swinging 2h axe?
battleaxes are good too, just a little more finnicky imo, they're like the opposite of an atgeir but do the same thing
atgeir for AoE stun and single target main attack, battleaxe for single target stun and AoE main attack
I've been running with the flesh rippers everywhere since I got them
yk, I've never actually tried those out lmao
which is odd since I'm a massive fenris addict, still using it in my mistlands char lmao
Thats crazy because I assumed fenris set was only good with them or something like that
me too...love them so much:D
FLOUR STACKS TO 50 NOW
fenris set is insane tbh, 2/3 of Yagluth's power at 100% uptime and the move speed boost
no need to yell at us we know already π
isn't flour temporary anyways? you straight turn it into something else?
yeah but some of us like to hoard flour
no? i like to stockpile it
What weapon do you use with it?
used to have half a black metal chest filled with flour, now it only takes up like 3 slots
as of rn, usually Atgeir, Sword & Board, or Magic
yea i had 2 Reinforced chests full
himminafl is my fav rn, fireball staff would be a close second if not for my lack of eitr regen rn
gonna need to get that eitr-weave armor so I can start trying out magic properly
Ah atgeir sounds fun
check #screenshots
Lol π
by far my favorite weapon class, and it's funny to think I only discovered that because I made a blackmetal atgeir to harvest barley π
My gameplay with claws is just kicking people and running around
if there's one thing funnier than stunning 20 enemies with the fury of thor, it's doing it right after sprint jumping directly into the crowd of enemies
nothing like a good fenris sprint directly into a horde
something thor did in a certain movie, no?
The x6 parry and high stagger kick are glorious with claws tho, a shame there's no other fist weapons. I wonder how long can I last with these
can my lox please stop walking into the single campfire that's still lit on this island
trying to figure out how to build a lox jail and make it pretty
Tamed animals have this code: IF "thing would be annoying to do", THEN "do that thing"
it's science
raise the fire?
else die in stupidest way possible
it's really genius
now, time to figure out how to make a nice farm area with enough space for these two jokers
i had to make a double high fence around my farm, because the asksvins see a fenced off area and are all "oh, you don't want me to go in there? well i'm going to in there EVEN MORE"
what sucks too is every barn design I see out there is designed for boars or wolves
I need to be able to fit a semi truck or two in there bare minimum god damn
worst part is they keep stacking and throwing each other around, damaging the walls
my lox breeding utilized a max depth earth pit, plus raising earth around it.
and even with that, i wanted to cull them regularly to prevent too much piling up
i'd put an overhang around the edge of the pit as well
but in the end, my lox breeding tower IS super effective. granted, late game you don't need endless lox meat anymore....
I usually just fence them in in the beginning to keep them together to have them breed and put some workbenches around after i got like 10 or 12 or so i just let them roam free and every 10 days or so go around gathering them up with a saddle in hand riding them to the middle and feeding them there π i do not bother to much they are pretty sturdy and can survive a lot without being fenced in
i'm thinking of digging a pit for them (the lox)--can't damage earth walls
oh lol, see I'm late to the pit idea
yeah I'm pretty much just keeping them for pets lmao, I get plenty of lox meat from hunting in the plains already
lox breeding tower--can only imagine the size
the main problem with letting your lox roam free near your base is they can potentially destroy your structures
what do i do with 350 askvin hide?
my base is raidproof at this point, so they probably won't destroy much
i have double walls on the house and stonewalls around the court yard where my smelters are... i never had a problem with destroyed stuff... the bug raids do more harm π
It's yuge!
If you've made everything that you want them for, keep some just in case and turn the rest into coal.
How do I orient my vineberries so they grow the right frickin way??? This is maddening.
maybe, maybe a bunch of rugs too
They keep growing sideways and don't produce fruit and it's the steering wheel on the pirates belt. (arrrr drivin me nuts)
"growing sideways" != "growing over the surface", they're growing perpendicular to the surface I'm planting them on
I break and replant until they seem to randomly go the direction I want--you're right though, it's weird
i dunno why they sometimes decide to go sideways on pieces--seems to me like it happens worst when it's not a "solid" surface they're grabbing on to
Haven't tested it out but giving them a narrow high thing to grow on might work.
First fix that and then build from there.
Only put the walls where you want it to grow?
vineberries will grow out left/right/up/down. it's just how they work.
if they are growing perpendicular, it sounds like you're placing them wrong. ie, not set to be flat against the surface
That'x exactly what I'm saying. The correct orientation is unclear.
A few of them have grown the correct way. It's unclear how I get that to happen consistently.
does the vine plant itself (pre vines) have like a FACING direction?
i placed a LOT of vineberry seeds, and have only had 1 that was messed up
every build piece technically has a facing direction. just some don't matter.
for example, the armor stand's facing direction matters a lot π
I'll try rotating mine and see what results I get
That's fair. I think I've inadvertently discovered that ivy has an orientation; I planted one expecting it to climb an adjacent wall, and it clung to a low level border on another angle instead.
i really love the vines tho, they mostly behave and they look super nice, and it's super fun having different and new ways to have to farm crops
do vines need open sky like most other plants?
Yes they do. And they're particular about growing too close to each other
finally found the bog witch on my new playthrough, i love it!
could i potentially grow them on a wall, then roof it and them not die? since they have already grown? or would that make them not produce berries?
Yes, that works
Good to know I always like a 1 meter overhang for realistic purposes
I've covered the inside walls of a fort with them and built my base after they grew. I now have vinberries growing in my base
Can you remove the cultivated ground or do you need to keep it?
you can remove it
I think you can remove it, I believe the parts higher up on the walls even survive if you destroy the rooted parts
is anyone else having issues with worlds saving? i played a few hours and saved and quit my world and it keeps going to an old backup and undoing my progress
Are you payiong particular attention to what way they're oriented?
Alright thank you both, I was just doing a build, I'll remove some part of the overhang temporarily and grow a couple berries on the side that will look great
Soon facing Bonemass, but took a risk and went to mountain to find caves. Found 2 and got total of 51 Fenris Hair there. Quite good for starters. (Hard preset world, trying to not die)
If I trap a 1 star wolf and it eats before sunrise, will it continue taming during the day or does it only tame at night? I thought it used to be it only tamed at night.
On hard for bonemass you can't do it the usual way where you stand in the poison, it's best to run away from it and do it a bit slower
i wasn't thinking about it much at the time, but i must have been placing them how it looked "right". ie, the flat part in the middle of the wall i wanted it to go on, about 1 meter or so away from the wall so it didn't clip on it at all
Yeah i can kinda see a "flat" side. I'll try that. Thanks.
Once the taming process starts during night it won't despawn at dawn anymore.
They changed it, they also don't despawn anymore once they start taming, they will keep taming during the day
i did discover that a single wood wall block doesn't grow berries at all, for me at least. once i put 2 walls on top of each other, suddenly berries would grow. (This is in a separate area where I just put a bunch of seperate walls to make a farm for it. I used up all my base walls lol)
#screenshots message I promissed i would take a screenshot of my kitchen π
Yeah I have usually avoided the poison cloud on normal too.
my that's a pretty one~
i really gotta make more bases with distinctly separated rooms, it tends to just be one big hall that just has nooks for different things
granted, it's partially to make them all quick to access through short distance and a lack of doors in the way
Cozy π
I do omit inner doors i just have passage ways and stairs... the doors do get in the way in a house i think ... but i like to have separate rooms and decorate them nicely π
Open plan is the way to go!
there's some great decorating potential in having separate rooms yea~
Each to their own, obviously. But, for me, any room separation is usually only through hanging banners. I hate having to open and close doors inside my base.
I usually create a big hall with separate rooms for workbenches and bedroom
in this base i have 3 distanct areas. bed/comfort, crafting, and kitchen. all have some storage also. But, I probably need to setup a dedicated bulk storage area also like my previous base has.
my latest one does have a separate bedroom, we needed the atmosphere~
main hall's too small to include mistlands stuff so i prepared a second building for when we get there
i also have some random roofed rooms on higher floors, to give certain crafting/cooking benches an actual roof lol
i've tended to just build additional buildings for each function lol
Let's start a channel that is narrated walk-throughs of peoples' bases.
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
and when you go outside, imagine like a wall, it's very wally, but it's behind you, and there's chests, they're not supposed to be there but they're there
Your base sounds weird
we could post videos of a walkthrough
Yeh, that was what I was suggesting. Did you think I was suggesting people offer an audio file of a base walk-through?
Yasss early Onion seeds!
The risk was calculated (I'm bad at maths) but it was worth it π
Your bad calculations were worth it?
i more meant, we already have a channel we can post videos.
killed an abomination before it finished its spawn animation lmao
Went to mountains (Bonemass not defeated yet) to find onion seeds and possible caves. Found 2 caves and chest with onion seeds. Golem almost obliterated me.
Oh, I see. Yeh for sure. Sorry if I was condescending.
I'm sure this is a reference to something, but it reminds me of text-based games I played forever ago...
it's ok. i expect it from you honestly π
I literally gaffaw-ed out loud.
I respond on par with the clarity of the comment I'm responding to, but you've made me consider that I should be more forgiving. Thank you. π
how do I find the Bog Witch in my established world? looked everywhere
you're welcome! and it's all good. i've grown to understand certain people's "text style" here
'She'll' be in some unexplored area of Swamp on your world.
you'll find her when you least expect her, I was sailing towards an island not far from my ashlands and accidentally sailed past her swamp on the way there
the day previous I had been specifically exploring my unexplored swamps looking for her
On the Bog Witch... why is her map icon so damn huge?
it's bigger than the other merchants? huh, i haven't looked at it to compare. i would have assumed it was the same size
yeah it's a little bigger
i would call that a bug imo
tbh I don't mind, she's usurped haldor as most important trader imo
at least Haldor has barrels now for spending money late game
does Hildr have any consumables for sale? once you buy anything, there's no reason to back to Hildr, yeah?
oh, sparklers? lol
You can return for more iron pits
yeah, that's true. i haven't ever bought an iron pit.
They're mid.
they're kinda mid tbh, bigger version of standing braziers if that's your thing
Haldor got made redundant from upgrades. - "Hey. Hello? I have eggs! Don't you want eggs anymore? I'm just going to cuddle my lox."
I mean... still gotta buy fishing bait on occasion
yeah, bog witch is probably the first trader where (almost) her entire shop is a permanent money sink
And Ymir Flesh
you only need a little bit of ymir flesh and then you're done however
We just did the sealed tower last night for the first time. It was fun but fighting on those stairs is butts.
Depending if you want to craft both weapons that require it.
sealed tower... oh god
I still need to do that, killed Geirrhafa and Brenna a long time ago
yeah, i did craft both. so no reason to get more flesh
Aren't towers designed so you don't fight on stairs since enemies are trapped on floors between doors?
oh speaking of which, Geirrhafa is raiding my lox pen
Bring fire resist potions. Lol.
fenris got me covered as always lmao
I'm mostly just scared of the 1* fuling raid becoming a thing
free blackmetal
those mini-boss raids are a step up from most raids
I hate all three of them. It's pretty much just the game saying, "Hey. Come kill this mini-boss so we can add another base event to your current suite of inconveniences."
Maybe it was just the guy in front messing things up then. He went down with his himmenafel and they always came running up the stairs
I mean granted, the sekllie one is kinda negligible by the time you'd get it
I like em, I think it's a fun gimmick and I like that they dilute my raid pool so trolls show up less
Must be it, you can end up fighting on stairs if you retreat to the stairs instead of going in
Can I buy you a Love Potion?
it's why I like the flood of raids bonemass opens up, more things that aren't the current army or a serious threat to my base
the only reason I will ever buy a love potion is to further my genocide of the blue people
Racist...
building a raid-proof base honestly isn't that difficult though if you want to
2nd least favorite race in this game, just behind the green people
it's not lol, my current base is raidproof
but I do like to have some raids every now and then, so this is gonna be the single case of a raidproof base
You should do an audio-only walkthrough.
i actually like the plains miniquest raid. blackmetal delivery.
lol, you mean like lay blind lol? @fallen zephyr
1star asksvins chew up fulings
20 minutes of campfire placing asmr
lululululllululu, indeed
lets go gambling!!!
definitely NOT a scam
