yeah back when they were talking about an Ocean biome update, and everyone was speculating about an ocean boss, I imagined a boss fight where maybe it was like a Kraken or something, and there were 4 corners of turtles that would periodically sink, and you'd need to like manage staying up on a turtle in order to keep the fight going
#valheim-chat
1 messages · Page 181 of 1
Shame that it goes back to sinking, but at least now I'm much more likely to get more mileage out of lavaiathans before they're gone
Still probably gonna try cheesing them with catapults or a quarry supported by flammetal beams
(Hey, if this biome won't play fair, then I'm not gonna play fair either)
Soooo... how are your WoW withdrawal symptoms these days? You managing? 😛
lol never played WoW
you seem to be interchanging the terms Flametal Spire and Leviathans. I do not know if the Leviathans have been altered or not
WoW in #valheim-chat ? 🤔
It's a fun idea. Very much 'raid boss' style mechanics.
Oh, I was saying Laviathans, not Leviathans
But yeah, I was talking about flammetal spires
I see Laviathans may be a term I'm not familiar with. I think I get it now tho
Hmm, did a search on this server, and it seems "laviathan" wasn't as common a term as I thought
hahaha I get it now tho. it is like the leviathans, but in lava. I like it
Haha, excellent
well 1: that's an incorrect spelling, and 2: I just call them turtles
That's like asking, "Gutenberg printing press in #myfavouritenovel-chat?"
You call the flammetal spires "turtles"?
no, the leviathans
I presume the 'turtles' are the ocean leviathans that allow chitin mining.
spires I just call spires
Huh
leviathan-> "turtle" in the ocean, LAVA-iathan-> flametal spire 🙂
Okay, so either way, I'm glad that at the very least the sink rates for spires got hit with a heavy nerf
I'm sure other people have different pet names as well -- kraken comes to mind as being an analogous sea monster
I could've sworn Hugin (or Mugin?) said something about flammetal ores resting upon some sort of creature, hence I thought people called them "laviathans"
yeah, I get it. I just think that name is too forced and clunky to use myself
Oh wow (WoW), I must have just glossed over that word and assumed what it said. I never noticed the distinction.
🤷♂️ it was being used already in ashlands ptb iirc, i personaly dont really mind either 🙂
I've learned two things today, and it's only 1:50am!
Was this before or after the server got wiped?
Or did the PTB Ashlands channel get deleted? Because I see very little documentation of the use of the term "Laviathan"
considering that server got wiped in January and Ashlands came to ptb in April... 😄
Oh
Also, an important question
Did the floating bug from setting foot on the spires also get fixed? I'm always paranoid about that triggering as I fall into lava (or happening as I try to jump up along the spire to keep mining)
also, did you search Laviathan or Lavaiathan? 🙂
yep, it is fixed 😄
....FUCK, goddammit, I searched for the former instead of the latter DX
No wonder I was thinking I was going insane. And no wonder people thought I was using completely alien terminology when it was indeed the completely wrong way to spell it
i mean, it was pretty clear whyt you meant 🙂
how do you warm an egg?, keep dropping it next to iron fire pit and it says the egg is too cold
I think it might need a roof
Feel like I need at least 2 coops. One for eggs, one for chicken meat
or just replace population once in a while 🙂
i have an auto breeder/killer for meat feathers, plus 2 egg towers with 4 hens total
Nah, this game is f-ed up. I get my first flametal on boat, sail away. Bone maw attack, no biggie. A 2nd one spawns.
2nd one got his head stuck through my boat. I'm sailing away full speed, dragging this thing around
Theres a difference between a challenge and just over kill
you dont have to ship the flametal home 😉
That's why they nerfed it.
This just happened, waiting for my Xbox clip to uplaod
Cant use normal portals with the ores
Exactly, it used to be really hard.
No, as in I'm playing right now and it happened lol
A) can with world modifiers B) can with the stone portal you can now make.
try to go find some putrid holes 🙂 it will make the transportation much easier
Don't have enough cores for 2 portals and I'm trying soooo hard to play legit world rules, besides 1.5x resource drops since I'm solo
you only need one 😉
you can link stone to wood
Oh...well...fuck me. I'm sailing back for the first trip
I set up a close base just to transport
#screenshots message
This is my first landfall experience
I got so lucky there was 2 dvergrs where I docked... Yet I died to the water 2 times in a row hehe. I set a portal before, tho
my first landfall experience on a reasonably sized island had me and all 3 of my friends die pretty much as soon as we landed. we could not get any infrastructure up. lost our boat and our bodies for over 30 days until we found a more suitable landing spot and trekked back. that was pre-nerf though
I think our answer was to build 10 drakkars and sail to ashlands nekkid until we got a portal up
#memes-and-clips message
Stupid bone maw being dragged
Genuine question, what's the practice benefits of a tower shield over its buckler?
Costs less stamina to block than it does to parry, making it useful when running a lot of health food or when against multiple enemies
I'm getting ready to go to the Ashlands for the first time
How do you guys enjoying the Mistland ? So hard / frustrating
Mistlands felt scary and hard at first. You get more used to it, and then you make the feather cloak, and it becomes WAY easier. Eventually you're just annoyed when you hear a gjall, not peeing yourself.
I hate the mistlands. The fact the mist is permanent annoys me. At least be able to disperse where I go with Wisp. Apparently, everyone down voted the suggestion so I'm the minority. I found a root close to a dwarf tower to set up a farm and sap thing. Portal in, grab, portal out. Hate it.
Otherwise, it looks pretty, land layout is neat, just the mist gets to me.
If it wasn't for the ashlands, I wouldn't be playing
You think devs already working on Deep North? When ya think we'll be getting the first teasers of it?
Since they're still patching up as well, maybe a year or so. I don't really know
of course we are working on deep north 😄
we aren't a 5 people project anymore
so we can split our attention
hey now -- I've seen plenty of one person projects that have split attention 😆
there are spots in mistlands with no mist. they are great spots to setup your little farms and sap
personally, once i could run around the Mistlands in top gear/food, and didn't worry about getting into fights, i liked the Mistlands a whole lot more. 🙂
I think it would be neat if Deep North had a bit more focus on building bases/outposts. None of the previous biomes really had any real emphasis on building other than like setting up farming operations.
Spots are cool, but I've dealt with fog of war in RTS games. I honestly don't like permanent mist. The wisp and wisp lanterns don't have a big enough radius and I think anywhere you walk with Wisp should remove the mist.
haha. i kinda like this idea. you team up with Odin, and must build a base that can repel a boss raid or something lol
Gotta build outposts to warm up cause you can't stay out in the cold forever. Maybe have like...natural hotsprings around the biome you build a lil base around.
But yeah, or a big huge base to repel massive invasions.
🤷 it's a design decision. it's ok to not like it. I think if you put wisp torches on a 4m beam, it works even better. you could put those everywhere
but generally it's not worth the time. might as well just beeline for everything you need out of it, and get out of there, if that's how you feel
Are there any servers that speak Spanish?
There were plenty in the cafe in spain the other day
I know it's a design decision, I just don't agree. Grew up playing old RTS games that varied from fog of war always on, to only where you haven't besn
What would it be?
Idk they served food and drinks
But where do I put it to enter?
If you're looking to join a spanish-speaking server, try in #1024264966712340510
Okay, I'm caving in. I'll get the stuff to run a mage build. Hate it but I'm being destroyed in ashlands by groups
I've been looking there but almost all of them are EU. U.S.
@granite silo i am from Brasil if u wanna play
Hi, are you on a server?
Either one is fine!
Not yet. If you wait for me a while...
ok, i will harvest some berry for a while
Can someone explain to me how food works witht the health and stamina
Does food give a permanent health and stamina increase or what
each food item gives a temporary bonus to both health and stamina for a few minutes
As the timer goes down on consumed food, your max numbers goes down. Think of it like you're digesting the food
Just found a swamp with 18 Crypts in it... Enough iron for a solo player to play the game with 😄
Depends what you're building 😅 I've emptied 18 out of the 25 crypts in my swamp but I think I'll eventually have to import some iron 😭
(for upgraded gear you'll be 100% fine tho)
Been seeing many people online asking for a GOG release. But I see no viable way to do so since the game is in Early Access which is a Steam exclusive release model afaik. Once the game is out of Early Access, then the devs can perhaps start thinking about releases to other platforms.
The game isn't exclusive to Steam.
It's already on the X Box.
For PC it is not possible to release an Early Access game to any platform other then Steam because GOG simply doesn't support Early Access.
Um, it's on Game Pass.
Why wont my standing torch turn on?
Yes its full
then idk. maybe ask in #valheim-help, or break and rebiuld if you have extra resin just to try
That is an Xbox thing.
Both Microsoft Xbox Live Services. XBL also works on PC too.
early access is not a steam exclusive thing
I don't see the point you're trying to make.
it probably too close to a wall or something so it doesn't get enough "air" to burn / tiny amount of smoke can't vent
Is the Slayer a reference to Berserk's Dragonslayer?
Maybe its like half clipped into a wall or it is like weirdly bugged
Mornin Gjall 😄
Valheim Is still in early access and you can play it on xbox and on Mac tho
Morgen gjall.
Does anyone know the best way to kill golems on the mountain
Use an iron mace
Staggering and than macing.
If you don't need the trophy or crystals from it, I would advice digging a hole and trapping it in there, eventually drakes will start attacking it and it will die but for the time being it won't bother you.
Is lvl 1 iron bucket enough to stagger it without being staggered yourself?
Couldn't tell you, I've always gone into the mountains with a lvl 3-4 iron buckler and changed to silver as soon as I could.
depends on armour rating and total hp
Jump on them and then mine them
Armor wont affect what you can and can’t block, it just changes how much stagger and damage you take after the block, which is why you can be staggered on a successful block.
I was fighting a charred skeleton warrior 2 star tried and block him in full armor and best shield. He just completely went through and killed me 😄
Going to fite the Queen with my 4 vikings tonight, I looked up her attacks etc and see that she do poison damage so imma bring poison resists for us all.
Is there something else i should think about if someone has any tips? ^^
Bring bombs, lots of bombs 😄
Our bowyer's will get arrows with frost and poison, mages will grab fire staffs and our tank bro will have his shield and sword and being face to face
2 bowyers, 2 mages, 1 melee.
Would bombs still be usefull even tho mages have aoe on fire staffs?
bring health and stamina meads too and eitr and make sure you have top tier mistlands level food, ideally have at least 1 good mage with you for shields
imo bombs still useful, depends on how playstyle how many you might want to throw at her, bows are not great for her even with the elemental arrows, okay but not great, I had the best time in solo with fire staff against her
Yeah thats true, imma grab my shield staff thingy haha
for the 2 mages I personally would use eitr food x3 but others might disagree and recommend at least 1 stamina, but I just wanted the extra eitr for shields and offensive
Yeah we do tend to loose eitr fast on spamming tbh.. hmm
me too thats why I go for 3 eitr, if your skill levels are in the 30s it works quite well, even better if higher
Gotcha, and thanks viking! 😁
🦦
I know I know this comment is a WHILE ago but.. isn't 7DtD on console?
ohwait that had its 1.0 recently huh
I was our party’s bow user when we fought the Queen. But I also had Carapace Armor, Carapace Shield, and a Mistwalker (maybe only top level on the shield, but possibly not).
And, part way through the fight I switched to melee, and she went down much more quickly after that.
There’s a (non-cheesy) thing (which I am sure you’ll figure out) you can do to her with two melee fighters.
I’d say we were struggling to beat her (also as 1 melee, 1 ranged, 1 magic) before we realised what we needed to do.
Ahh snap, alr.. our rangers have playd range all the way up to this point cuz they prefare bow and arrow >.<
Hmm .. Idk, i think imma let em go with bow n arrow even tho it may be abit slower for their enjoyment of being slightly more safe on a distance aswell
Haha… safe distance… you’ll see…
But, yeah, my preferred style is ranged. That approach is for sure viable. But it will be a long fight.
Have fun. 🙂
1,045 hours of valheim, and Im just really getting into mistlands (back after a yearish break) I am absolutely loving the magic system, its been great. The new foods and build pieces have been really interesting too! Mistlands was crazy navigating around at first, but its gotten to be a really enjoyable biome. Really happy with the mistland content.
Also the only place the fishes are somewhat interesting to fish, angler-fish for the best stamina food around that level and the puffer-fish as a easy way to get rid of dvergr or use in auto breeders or even toss down for some extra damage to mobs.
Make a chokehold and toss puffer-fish down.
Or use pufferfish spread around your mistland base for some hare farming.
nice, I could say the same, except for the time spent XD I only have about 170 hrs
Weirdly, I have yet to start fishing there, its one of my favorite in game passtimes lol
Is it possible to use 1 minor eityr mead and 1 lingering stamina mead at the same time?
Or would the other one block the use of the other?
I found a very nice small island that I could spawn proof, I used it as a shroom farm and it had 3 fish spawn points around it, frequently went back to base with 20+ fish.
yes.
Great!
Queen wont have a chance on my plannings then! xD
Yes, you can use a potion of all the different things but never 2 of the same thing.
So eitr, stamina and health can be used together but not a lingering stamina and a normal stamina potion.
First thing I did this run is found a small plains island from the get go. Had BF nearby as well, has a ton of fishing spots, the waves are rough on the fishing docks, but its been a pretty good spot. Ive been looking for a good mistland island, but Gjalls put a quick end on looking for one early XD
I was under the impression that I could take stamina and lingering stamina
I might be mistaken but I think that once you take a stamina based potion you get a debuff for a few minutes preventing you to take another stamina based potion.
pretty sure it's only for that specific potion. for example, a med stamina pot, once you take it, you get the debuff so you can't take another med stamina for however long. you can use other stamina ones like small and lingering during that time. 99% sure on this.
you get locked out of any stam mead if the debuff is active iirc, and for lingering there is no debuff, you can take another stam right after the effect ends
okay
What about during can you take a lingering stamina and a normal stamina at the same time?
nope, one or the other, you choose
One exception is tasty mead. That’s considered a different type. So can be used at the same time as another stamina mead.
true
Thanks for the clarification and confirming I wasn't misremembering things.
i still remember trying the lingering for the first time and then wanting to use the medium one 😄 i was running from a 1* or 2* seeker (not sure anymore, was quite some time ago) and it led to my death 😄
what's the best way to find the plains boss
sail around the coasts of plains islands
and look for the thing (stonehenge) i assume ?
yep
it looks like giant fingers coming out of the ground
alr thanks, we were going around visiting the whole plains every time
you can do that, sometimes it's better if you have a big one, but if it's obv a thin strip, just sail by and the stone henge will also be visible for a long way off.. like 1500 m at least
tod [0-1] - Sets time of day. 0 and 1 are both midnight. 0.5 is noon.
nice, one more:
How to clear weather.

Env Clear I think.
(tod -1 gets rid of the fake time-of-day, and resetenv gets rid of the fake weather, but both can also be reverted by simply leaving the world - it's a temporary client-side change, rather than actually changing the time or weather of your world.)
What's the best way to clear the gravechambers?
I haven't played a year and need a crashcourse
i always follow the left wall, works like a charm for making sure every room is cleared unless there happens to be a looping path somewhere, which at least isn't common
Do all hildirs clothes have the same stats? Even the later ones that cost more?
Yes
How does one add a building mod to the game on Xbox? I want to use more diverse materials to build cooler looking houses.
i dont think you can use mods on xbox, but it would be better to ask #mods-discussion to be sure 🙂
Leather scraps are being a pain to get
they're much easier if you start a boar farm. look for a 1* or 2* boar to tame, then breed it a lot. All the scraps and boar meat forever
How do you tame?
lock them in somewhere and feed them
they will eat mushrooms, raspberries, blueberries and later also other stuff you can farm but i dont want to spoil too much 🙂
here's a video. it's a bit old, but it still works fine https://youtu.be/WgJwtxgluYM?si=CXGk02AVHEZl7e_c
basically aggro them, bring them to a pen to hold them, then drop some food inside and deaggro. When they eat, you'll see yellow hearts over them. After about a day or so, you'll get a message saying they are tamed
feeding them more after they are tamed will produce more boars. Also starred boar will drop more meat and scraps than unstarred ones.
should i use two mage foods or go all in and use three?
i think the most common food loadout for mage is eitr, eitr, stamina
You can equip ammo
equip it just like armor
Or like anything
yep, but i figure they would be most likely familiar with equiping armor 🙂
You equip armor the same way as anything else?
yes, but armor is one of the first things you learn to equip, so i mentioned that in particular 🙂
debating destroying my entire build and restarting
it looks fine, but i think i could do better
you can do whatever you want 😄 if you think you can do it better then why not
Best way to get feathers? Cause trying to find birds suck
Until you beat Yagluth or go through a sealed tower, killing birds is the best way.
also just exploring meadows and BF structures that have chests, quite often there are feathers there 🙂
BF crypts have ravens nearby. Also if you go near shallow water in meadows during a thunderstorm, seagulls will land and not fly away so quickly
What are BF?
black forest - one of the biomes
Yesterday, I got the "They were Bros" raid while I was fighting Fader. Was actually useful 🤣
Holy shit its been 8 days and my bores still arent tamed
If they have an icon over their head (they’ve heard you or seen you) their taming progress will pause. They also need to be loaded to tame, so you can’t be too far away.
Oh thats makes since iv barely been at my base
Nothing will tame if you are not within 50 meters of them
I have tin now but where do i use use it at?
They will also need to eat more if you keep leaving the area, it takes 30 minutes total of you being within 50 meters while they have been fed for them to tame
combine tin with copper to make bronze
Smelt copper to make a forge. Tin has a few uses on its own but you’ll want to turn most of it into bronze.
Bonemass has to be the easiest boss
Smelt it and then make a cauldron to cook food with
Might need to get surtling cores from the black forest to get the smelter recipe though
Is there a limit to how many portals a world can have? Mine are disappearing completely
i dont think so, some community servers have hundreds of portals
Ah I see. 🙂 I won't say that I marked the portal that "disappeared" wrong on my mini map, so the location was incorrect 😂
it could have been destroyed if you accidentally aggroed mobs before going through it at some point
When you hover the crosshair over a very large rock in a black forest, it could say ‘copper deposit’. There rocks have a different texture so once you’ve found one you’ll know what you’re looking for. You could also find a picture online if you need to.
Any suggestions for the yagluth boss fight? I'm playing with a group of 4 and we all have lv 3 padded armor, lv 3 blackmetal weapons, and plenty of fire resistance
Stick near the pillars when he summons his meteors
K got it
Fenris set better, cos of the slow down from Padded Armor (Personally how i feel) But since theres 4 of you, whoever is being targetted by beam/fist, the other 3 justsmack him from behind. Also, silver sword best weapon vs him 😄
Dodge meteor, win game
Getting the fenris set is insanely tedious tho innit
For that many people, potentially, youll be fine in padded, just make sure to bring healing/stamina pots
K
Should we focus on melee or ranged stuff?
We all have level one or two draugr fang bows
Ive never used a bow vs him
Ranged does practically nothing to him
K
Well what melee should I use? I've already basically got every plains tier weapon but idk which one to use
Silver Sword
Is the spirit damage just really good or something?
Just go fight him, and tell us how it went 😄
Ok lol
More funthat way 😛
Being under prepared for a boss with a group of friends is pretty fun
Just scream, “for Valhalla” for dramatic effect, it’s extra fun lol
I might do that
Instead of running from his meteors, just block them. You need to try to stay close so you can hit him enough before he attacks again.
Either black metal shield would be good enough. Tower shields would be better for this fight because of their higher block angle and because parrying bosses doesn’t do anything, but you can use the normal shield to save resources.
K
The crystal axe’s blocking is good enough so you don’t even need a shield
I assumw the more boars i have in a pin the more piggys i will get faster
I do have one
There is a limit to how many boars can be near each other before they stop breeding, but I don’t know exactly what it is. I just keep 2 and butcher the rest.
5 per 10m
It will do a lot more damage than a black metal weapon
Is it better than blackmetal shield and silver sword tho? I have like level 28 sword skill but idk what mine is for the axe tho
I don’t know if the silver sword or crystal axe is better for yagluth but they’re both better than their black metal equivalents, which are already good enough.
What about the porcupine? It seems much better than the sword even though I have like half the skill level with it
It has pierce damage, which yagluth is resistant to
oh
Yagluth isn’t immune to spirit damage which is why silver works so well
k got it
Silver sword is more DPS and is easier to use
silver sword or frostner?
Frostner is cheaper and usually better
It’s bad against Moder, stone golems and ||lox|| (enemies in the next biome), but it’s good for the 5th boss and some enemies in the 7th biome.
Also it deals the most damage into enemies from the 6th biome before getting equipment from that biome
It does more damage per hit but has significantly less stagger, and also has high knockback so it isn’t always better.
Because it’s mostly frost damage, the frostner isn’t any good for staggering all but the weakest enemies in relevant biomes.
I hold Frostner hand in hand with spear so I usually can work with any situation
Yeah, other maces are better for that, but it’s a one handed weapon so you can still use shields
Also the slow and KB makes it great for playing defensive and not dying
The slowing is so good for 2-star ||charred warriors||, you can kill them without even triggering one of their attacks because of the turnspeed reduction.
So the slowing is great for aggressive combat too, by allowing you to deal constant damage while preventing enemy attacks entirely.
I’ve never tried it like that, I usually use it in 5th biome to send the little guys flying and then waiting for them to slow walk back so I can do it again
I usually try to stagger with damage because it’s faster than parrying, so I haven’t tried the frostner in mistlands yet. I might do that in this playthrough if I make one.
I play a lot more defensive, I wait to parry before trying to get multiple hits because if I don’t I’m worried about getting jumped mid attack, so smacking enemies around and comboing them into a wall is my preferred tactic
Mistlands enemies are so short, jumping over them and landing a secondary on their back on the way down is even more effective than in other biomes
anyone can help me with some strong stuff? i just wanna make videos with this
I have a headcanon... If the player were a forsaken they would be summoned by smashing some number of beehives and putting them on a throne in like a fancy A-frame house... the the summon text would be 'The bees are not happy...'
would the defeat text be 'the bees are sleeping'
Yessss!
Would it be a bad idea to try and live in the black forest? Im always needing copper and tin
it's possible, however you will be attacked more often than in meadows
Not at all. You may have to deal with wandering trolls more frequently. But you have the advantage of being able to build up in the trees easily.
Is building in trees what you wanna do?
the problem with building on the trees is that trolls can knock them down pretty easily
I typically find one of those ruined stone towers and build on top of that
extreme terraforming is also always an option, although that gets a lot more expensive the more extreme you get
Yeah, the old ditch+raised platform approach basically works well in every biome (well, except for one).
So what you raise a area up really high and dig like a moat around it?
Anyone wanna play
Im want a defensive base where im not constantly having to deal with enemies
Yep. Most mobs cannot destroy terrain, and few can jump high enough to be a problem. Some can fly though. Not much you can do about those.
whats a good melee weapon for mages to use as like a backup?
there is a "melee" mage thing in Ashlands that uses eitr, I guess you're looking for a non eitr thing in Mistlands? demolisher is quite good for that or Himmin afl because of the control it gives yo
whats the ashlands thing? ive played all the way through but as a tank so i dont remember it
Dundr (basically mage shotgun)
ohh that
Never considered shotguns melee weapons…
Is there any reason to go to the Deep North currently? No items specific to that biome yet right?
That's correct. You're only making the area unupgradable.
I keep seeing that under the elder boss spawn is the best place to build a base?
It’s not a better place than anywhere else in the black forest, but you are able to make a cave base by using the platform as a roof
Morgen gjall.
Question: If you kill all the spawners on an island, do those monster types keep spawning?
What id you built a bridge out into the water and made a island for your base could that be a good defensive base?
<—(New to game)
Yes. Most enemies are spawned randomly, not by spawners
yes, naturally, unless you spawn proof the island
How do you spawn proof the island?
workbenches, campfires
Yes but less frequent, the only thing you can do is spawn proof the island if you don't want any spawns.
Does farming all the trees in a Black Forest convert it to a meadow?
Build overlapping player base structures.
Easiest is placing a workbench and check its radius, anything in its radius is spawn proofed, you can then change it with something more appealing or hide the workbench underground (needs a beam to connect to something solid above ground) or build little shacks or something alike.
For more about player base items see here: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Player_base
Nope, that will just mean a barren black forest.
Biomes can’t be changed
it will only be a brighter blackforest... so... lightforest?
brightforest?
hmm
Good to know! Thank you. Also, I’m about to go after the first elder boss (after the elk). Without spoiling too much, am I good to try once I have bronze level 3 armor?
do you have some real food? like carrot soup and such?
Troll armor has almost as much defence but won’t slow you down, so you could get that instead.
Not yet. I have some beef jerky and honey being made but haven’t started farming.
carrot soup and other such items that need carrots are important for swamp and maybe even killing the elder
Okay, I’ll work on that next, thank you!
no way, save ur mushrooms
You’ll also want a bronze axe, another bronze weapon if you want one and either a bronze buckler or bone tower shield if you don’t have a 2-handed weapon
I’m using a bronze sword right now but also have the axe.
no way, towers cant parry lol
Staggering through damage can be faster than parrying so if you can do it to an enemy you don’t need to parry them. Tower shields are better at splitting groups and use less stamina, and you can still parry by unequipping the shield and using your weapon. All shield types are good if used right.
They are the worst shield to use for blocking
It 100% depends more on the mob stats, not the star number
that is a double negative
is it?
its like saying ive not killed nobody
in other words
you did kill somebody
whats ur point. obv it was a grammatical error. get over it
am i not allowed to give advice about the game like you?
you litteraly asked is it?
so
ofcourse ill tell you why
last time i checked were all created equal
last time i checked your the one bringing it up
Biscuit calm down. I was just trying to give another option/opinion. U didnt need to come at me
anyways sorry yo's, didnt mean to start anything. just felt mushrooms are a very needed ingredient later down the road & bucklers defo beat tower shields.. just sayin
You can always get more mushrooms, they are needed in very few recipes and you will have plenty if you mark their spots on your map, as for shields, for Elder fight i would also preffer buckler but if you don't clear the suroundings enough and get swarmed the bone shield might be also good choice
I wonder whats your approch guys when starting over. Play on seed which was generated or use map generator to find perfect seed?
Every boss is doable with lvl 1 weapons, armor and the food from the corresponding biome, upgrading them just makes it easier.
I look for a map that people recommend and the description I like but i don't look at the seed.
Last seed I played on had the description of "boss valley" --> all bosses close together except for queen and fader.
Doesn’t sound very fun
To each their own, I like the fact that I didn't need to look for the bosses all over the world.
Which I had already done in a previous play through.
Ah fair enough
I wish that someday they will add possibility to create world without water ;D i just hate sailing
100% not gonna happen
Bringing metal to your base would be much slower if you needed to walk
And going to new biomes and bosses
@nocturne wolf i don't care, i just hate sailing thats all 😉
@azure yacht i know ;<
Hey, good morning, fellow vikings! 👋
If there is one of the devs available, I have a question I'd like to ask regarding Steam Valheim on the Mac.
It seems with the latest bug release that the capability to run external libraries was disabled, as libdoorstop.dylib seems to be not loading anymore, thus rendering BepInEx inoperable.
If I go back one release it starts working again.
Not really a mod issue, since it only affects the Mac, and not mods in specific.
in general, I wanted to write.
And it doesn't seem to affect anybody else running on Linux or Windows.
Or we would have a storm in forums. 😉
I doubt that Unity was upgraded, again, as it would've affected other platforms as well.
It seems the latest patch was only concerning Mac, i imagine thats why other systems are alright
Bepinex is mods, that's why you've been directed that way.
It's not affecting BepInEx, though.
The new main menu buttons are on other operating systems too, but those might not have affected any mods (I have no idea because I don't use mods)
It's affecting doorstoplib.
So external libraries in general.
Which are not affected on other platforms, just Mac.
Then #mac-bugs-discussion but those libraries are not needed for vanilla play.
"thus rendering Bepinex inoperable".
I'm being helped, folks. Thanks, though. 🙂
When it comes to durability and survivability on walls in ashlands, would you all go with grausten or stone walls?
Omg... Raise ground.... Im a genious o.o
Yeah, same
Do standard chest work to have in ashlands or would they start to take fire dmg like trees do?
Fires don't start randomly, so if you keep your chests inside with a shield generator to protect them, they'll be safe
Gotcha, thanks! ^^
what? my chests or i wont spontaneously combust? thats a shame
Does anyone else use axes as a primary weapon?
I use them sometimes
I only use it because it's a 2 in 1.
I find it too slow. I like the club or sword for primary. I keep my axe around as a secondary weapon and for chopping.
1h axe primary is good but the secondary is terrible. Battleaxes have a good secondary attack though.
the seconday axe chop is meant primarily for stumps
It's not any better for stumps than anything else. Pickaxes are meant primarily for stumps, though.
(Yes, pickaxes damage stumps)
axe is slow
pickaxes primary purpose is certainly not clearing stumps, that is indeed what the axes secondary is for
Axe secondary only has 1.5x damage. Until you get an axe that can break it in one hit, using the primary multiple times would be better
Sometimes you can't reach a stump with the primary. Unless you carry a hoe for flattening or a pickaxe for digging a hole to reach it.
the secondary for axes was added because it was sometimes hard or impossible to get into a position that you could hit the stump (i personally rarely have that problem but its still present)
it wasnt added for the sole purpose of dealing more dmg to the stump
i use the axe secondary as a style finisher. What I do is I jump in the air against an opponent that will die in 1 hit and use the secondary in midair
That is indeed a great use of it 😄
It's too bad everything in this game costs stamina
I waste half my bar pretending to be a viking
that's why food is critical 😉
lol my apple watch just gave me a high heart rate notification, as i'm making it close to ashlands beach for the first time.
i think i'm roughly halfway through the rock spike ocean part. just made a portal and went back home to rest
okay, beach is in sight. i see a Morgen doing something on the beach, maybe fighting Dverger? can't see. i backed to spire, and portalled to rest and go in at the start of the day.
all i want is to be done with trying to sail there. this ocean approach is the worst. my kingdom for a portal on land, up high
going to look for a spire that's close to enough to the beach that i could jump there...
Good luck! The play by play is exciting lol
quick question, if I hang out in Haldor/Hildir's area with something built nearby, do raids still trigger?
Raids will still trigger, but you're safe inside their bubble.
all enemies will just run away.
That’s exactly what we did.
oh, i'm glad it's not annoying. let me know if it is!
I just managed to find two spires right off the beach. i docked, jumped to the closer one. there was one spawner in the distance, that i took care of with Embers staff, while I handled a small stream of charred archers, twitchers, and a couple warriors. Main tactics was keeping a height advantage on the rocks, and then jumping around if it got too crazy.
I've managed to drop a portal there. I put a small roof of stone over it. Not sure if that will help. i just portalled back because it was turning to night, and to take a breath. 🙂
i haven't seen any of the flame guys yet. i think when i go back, i'm going to get to ground level, and then try to space out some campfires for a little spawn protection. this isn't a perfect spot, but it's quiet at the moment and i'm going to make it a permament portal area.
yeah when I did Ashlands solo it was like babysteps, clearing like 15 meters at a time lol then portaling home before night
i managed to summon 3 skellies at one point that were a big help too. however, i lost them when i jumped back to my boat to grab more resouces and they tried to follow me. lol. stupid boiling water
i brought stuff for 1 shield generator. should i set that up here?
haha yeah I didnt want to spoil the first experience, but you mentioned jumping from a spire and swimming to shore, I was like this hoping you knew about boiling water 😬 🫢 🫣
I actually have never made a shield Generator lol I have spent a bunch of time in the Ashlands and defeated a ton of fortresses.... but just never bothered with the shield generator personally.
I usually hide my portals like in a corner of a collosseum, or pickaxe down into a boulder a little bit and hide it under/inside of a rock. also all my original portals are still standing just thrown on the top, backside of a rock on the beach
but im sure they can be helpful if you want to construct one and feed it bones
yeah, no idea how necessary it is. the portal is against the rock, with some stone on sides/top
just got a coffee and considering my next moves.
i think i'll get the rest of my crap out of the boat, so i can stop thinking about it. and maybe push towards finding a spot for another permanenet portal
i haven't had a breath to look around too much at what i can see
anyone got a modpack with some qol mods
gotta rethink my load out too. i still have mistwalker in my inventory, but with mage stuff i haven't even though about switching to it.
Shield generators are useful for any location where you want a (semi-) permanent outpost and can’t find/create natural cover.
Mistwalker is very effective against all the Ashlands mobs.
is there anything besides golems mistwalker is bad against? xd
if you run out of eitr, but still have some stamina, and a tweeker or vulture is on top of you, pulling out the sword and shield can be helpful
yeah. that was the original idea for mistwalker being there. currently been commiting to staying at range, and switching to bow and arrows if out of eitr. but that's not really my playstyle. i've also watched some videos of people in the Ashlands, and i think people who move TOO much sometimes end up pulling more mobs into a fight.
hah yeah that can happen for sure
Yeah, that for sure happens.
thankfully some of them do aoe damage to each other
yeah, which is an interesting mechanic in Ashlands.
they won't attach each other, but they take damage incidently
yeah, it is an interesting new playstyle/strategy. i havent mastered it, but I do it when I can. I've seen some people really utilize it well
I’ve yet to be able to use that to my advantage… especially since the last update…
i'd rather not have so much chaos that it's necessary 🙂
The main tool in causing that kind of damage no longer does it so reliably.
I'm going to have to re-look at the patch notes. I recall decreased spawn rates and the change to 1% on flametal sinking. can't recall what you're referencing
if i snipe a lava blob with a fireball from a distance, will it explode? or only if it attack
or maybe with a frost arrow instead
i guess i have to kill it for it to explode on its own
i usually just get close enough that they start to shrink (they do that just before exploding) and roll away fast, that gets me usually far enough to not take dmg but i also time it so it explodes while i am in a roll 🙂
||yeah you need to either get last-hit or bait it into exploding on you and then dodging||
i think it's time to jump down to ground level in a bit to deal with that. i'm paused and finishing my coffee.
i can't tell if it's making it's way towards me or not
okay, good. it doesn't see me. it's just hopping aroound in the medium distance
It don’t think it was mentioned in the patch notes, so, to be clear, it’s possible nothing was changed, but it seems, to me, that ||the trick of running towards lava blobs, to force them to explode, is no longer as reliable||.
sheesh. why is it suddenly so dark. did i forget to sleep when i went back to my base?
checking... nope. it's daytime. but it's raining in the meadows. so i guess there's some bad weather in the ashlands too
Yeah, Ashlands storms are horrible. Gets super dark.
ah, I see. I'm not sure I've noticed
okay, time to waste some time at base while this weather passes i guess
made it through another day cycle. placed some campfires spread out a bit. killed some more stuff. really wish i had more free inventory slots. putting some stuff in a chest at the base of my portal spire. went back to base to rest and drop off resources. skellies are proving very useful right now
need to leave more gear at home. with bubble, i don't think i need to bring my shield, even with mistwalker
Is there really no way to hide or at least off-center the steering wheel when sailing with HUD hidden? It ruins screenshots when sailing - and it's not always a good idea to drop the rudder for the pic... 😦
Like, the sail being fully or half deployed or not at all should be pretty self evident, as should paddling, someone who'se running running without HUD is probbably fine without on-screen indicators anyway.
well, there's my first death. was fighting a warrior, then all of a sudden it was warrior, twitcher, archer, and a Morgen showed up. Bubble popped, hit again, dead.
luckily, i'm at the base of portal spire. i can recover not so bad
that's at least a respectable one. My first time was turning myself into soup. blew up an unstable lava rock on one of those stone spires and spent too long swimming while trying to collect the proustite powder.
doh!
i felt pretty good until i died lol. i had 3 skellies, maybe 2. and i was evading, and dropping fireballs
i /think/ there's only the Morgen left. i'm going to go in with melee gear to recover
Mages be very squishy without the bubble though. Sooner or later it will pop and chances are you don't have time to put up a new one before...pain
yeah, I've been sacrificing my speed in favour of wearing carapace armor just in case my bubble pops.
just a tip, when you refresh the bubble timer you dont refresh its durability, its best to wait till its completly destroyed before casting another one 🙂 (ofc if you didnt takeany hits yet feel free to refresh 😄 )
Anyone noticed like.. weird freeze laggs in ashlands?
We never had these issues in mistlands or any other biome to be honest
time for health/health/stamina, carapace gear plus root, and ... huh. frostner and demolisher i guess
I always go heavy armor. Even in bronze age - just to keep myself from getting used to (and crave) greater mobility. With 100 running I can pretty much sprint non-stop anyway 😄
yeah, i read how refreshing bubble doesn't top up its points. so best to let it go if you've been hit
i should have popped bonemass. i didn't even think about it
stupid mistake
There's always a bit of stutter around world saving, other than that I haven't noticed anything
ok
Any seed is good seed.
I just play the world I get
Most of my playthroughs are just random seed. Only time ive checked a seed before starting it was when I wanted one with 20 fortresses all on one island for a gauntlet I ran
just because there are better ones doesent mean others arent good 🙂
anyone know when nexrt update is
If you want the ideal seed for your way of playing use that map generator site thingamajingy, and pick one that looks cool to you
As per the recent news in, well, #news, sometime in the Fall.
huh. Morgen wasn't there anymore. Just a barely alive warrior. getting my hear back...
Hm? When does a seed become good? That's such a nebulous question.
It's just that there's no defining what a "good" seed is - it is so subjective. Me - I want shit spread out so it forces me to explore and move around a lot. Others want all bosses close so they can speed run, etc etc
Probably a trader not too far from the center, a decent forest, maybe a few leviathans in the ocean around the first island
hey guys, I see a lot of people talking about shields in hardcore dont work. I started a playtrough in hardcore no map with 3 friends and im currently using iron buckler and im able to tank normal and 1 start draurgs hits on parry. In contrast, the tower shield take at most one hit before I stagger.
What do you think? Shields are useless at hardcore? Or people just dont upgrade the shields and train skills enough to use it?
I played hardcore and shields felt useless, could only parry things that were not a threat anymore
what's the update for ?
its for everyone.
i'm tempted to back to melee
When you say "felt useless" you were getting one shot with tower shields or you could only hold a single hit that almost killed you?
or maybe use mage stuff, but stick with heavier armor also
I always use bucklers, it felt useless because I could not use it to parry any of the big threat like a troll, abomination, golem, etc. to kill them faster. I could just parry things like graydwarf, draugr, etc. and I didn't even need to to kill them efficiently
Getting used to dodging all the attack and killing the mobs normally was the way to go for me at least
what are people's opinions on root harnesk in Ashlands? still worth it?
No
my valheim server crashed ?
Archers dont do enough damage and you really dont want to be weak to fire
is there a general problem ?
morgen's do a lot of pierce damage though. hrm
warriors do pierce on 2 of their 4 attacks
Good idea to not let those hit you to begin with
yeah, true
I am a big fan of the root harnesk but when I am done with the mistlands it gets obliterated
i dont think so, nobody else posting about something like that atm
i'm going to take a break, and consider melee vs mage, as well maybe not going full mistweave vs maybe just robe + carapace. Happy to hear anyone else's thoughts
I have never used the root harnesk tbh
root harnesk was great all the way through mistlands for me.
It is great for the swamp, plains and amazing for the mistlands
Oh, I know it is great, I've just never felt the need to make use of the resist, there
are so many other ways to avoid getting killed. Being dependent on one old armour piece is not something I fancy
I don’t use it either (the screenshot was from a commands character), but it can be very powerful
I did use the helmet a lot to not need to waste an inventory slot on the meads 😄
*mask
And the Fenris suit gets dusted off whenever I need to do exploring on foot
try combining it with the ask cape 😄 that speed is insane (when going downwind)
<making notes>
can confirm, I tried to measure how far you could jump with fenris + asksvin cape while running downwind, using the wood flooring in base to measure. first attempt actually jumped outside by accident. second attempt clocked in at 30m (15 2x2 floor tiles)
Oooh, nice 😄 i never measured it
How can i build a bridge over my moat to my base that me and a cart can get across but enemies cant?
leave a little space in the bridge. big enough to break the ai pathfinding, but small enough to not get the cart stuck
anyone know if theres any hd mods that work?
Yes. It’s better than it was pre-patch. But it can get laggy at times. If playing with others, vary who goes into an area first, as this may help.
preferably the guy who lives at the geographical center of your group irl
I don’t recall - does the mage armour have a set bonus, or is it per piece?
per piece
No set bonus
And hood is only 20% regen bonus. Pants and robe are 40 each.
So maybe I'll keep robe, but switch to carapace helm and pants. And mix in some more weapon use if necessary
so replacing the helmet is the way to go if you need more defense (despite bubble being bubble)
Yeah. Or just hood
bubble doesnt care about your defense
Right. This is a hedge for it popping in a bad spot.
just abuse the feather jump to recast
In a perfect world with perfect play, sure. I did just get popped and hit again before I could recast. I'm just considering options.
But possibly an over reaction to a single death.
magic just plays very differently to melee
The quality of the connection is sometimes more important than geographical distance (though with everything else being equal, ping can be a good indicator of distance, and vice versa).
Would you say this is the most complete Norse game there is? Ik theres no deities but i mean like the creatures and stuff of Norse mythology
There are at least two deities and the Forsaken are pretty close.
But it's BASED on Norse mythology, rather than trying to recreate it faithfully.
True
Oooohh omg thanks for answer! 😄
What game would you say recreates if best? GoW is out of the picture because i play Xbox. AC Valhalla?
gonna post a more detailed answer in #general to keep valheim chat on topic
I did not realize how long it would take to build a moat
Everything in Valheim takes longer than one expects, but the finished product normally is worthy of the time invested, so all is well
My Valheim was updating, anything new?
Is Silver Ore or Silver Bar heavier?
we fixed a Mac issue. but not much more besides that no
Thank you for letting me know
They both have 14 weight
Was hoping one was lighter 😂 I have about 1000 silver from the mountain I just explored i need to transport back to base, but thats going to be a few hour mission 😦
If you really have that much silver a few hours would definitely be worth it.
Half carts full is faster to transport than full carts right? I havent cleared a path from mountain to water for boat
How full the cart is doesn’t matter. The cart gets heavier depending on the total weight of items inside, and eventually will be very hard to move up slopes.
Fortunately carts are very good at getting items down the mountain (and riding down on them is fun too)
Ah its weight dependant i see. I remember on one of my servers, I fully loaded a cart with iron or silver, and the smallest of small slopes the cart would get stuck
Yeah you just run them down a cliff, itsthe bottomof mountain to ocean thats the issue if too full XD
usually doesnt matter much for me, push the full cart downt he mountain
catch up to it at the bottom, repair it get it a few more meters closer to the boat and load it up and get going
lol. while exploring a little of the beach in ashlands, a bonemaw spawned and was pissed he couldn't get to me. so he destroyed my boat. well, i better get another portal down on the beach somewhere just in case
You can never have enough portals, just make sure they’re protected.
my current beach portal is under some stone on top of a spire. next move is to get another one established somewhere else
okay, well, i just ran the fuck out of there. fallen valkerie showed up in the middle of a fight. unfortunately it followed me back to my portal. not too far away
phew. killed the valk. portalled back for a second. now just have 2 warriors to clear
still not making any forward progress though. hah
From your base do you see any ruined buildings?
I just got a valheim update on my Xbox but the patch notes channel says it was two days ago, what's going on?
If so, make that your next target. Get there, and set up a shield and a portal. Drop campfires in between and around. Clear out any spawners you see around. Then do the same again - spot somewhere else to make your next mini portal post and go for it. Then once you have a couple of portals setup you can start to think about piggy-backing them. Go back to older portal, take it down, move to the next portal location, and so on. Gradually making your way in-land, or along the coast (up to you (but in-land will more likely lead to what should be your next target)).
Well, actually, as you’re running mage stuff, there’s a couple of potential next targets.
Yeah that's a good plan. And I have made SOME progress. For example, I now have level 2 embla hood and pants, upgrading my level 3 eitr wave. So it's not all doom.
Xbox and Mac things have to go through extra hoops. PC stuff can be pushed immediately.
How far into the game are you?
If just starting, pay attention to Hugin, the raven.
punch dat birb
managed to get a little ways up the beach, and put another portal down with a fortress in sight, on top of a big spire. no ruins around that i could see. i'm going to fortify this one with some stone for the moment
had to take down another fallen valk, and some charred, and askvin along the way. also dropped another campfire
ashlands is stressful. sheesh
do bosses regen when you're out of the zone? my coop buddy has a power outage and we need to "pause" the fight lol
Anyone ever have a weird issue where animals just will NOT drop meat?
I remember a patch a long time a go in which they nerfed bonemass's regen because it was higher than it shoud be. So.. yes
I only know it happens if you kill tamed animals when they're in their baby stage
I mean I know they regen, the questiuon is do they "freeze" when you are not there, or is it only regen in combat
It's literally every animal at this point. 7 deer, 8 boar. 1 meat drop from any of them
yes all enemies passively regen 1.67% of their max health
(their health does not freeze if you leave)
On my first run and just got silver, should I use the drake helmet or root mask? I’ve heard root mask is good against the deathsquitos
root mask is useless against deathsquitos, you're think of the chest piece, root harnesk
Ahh okay cool, good to know. Thanks!
deathsquitos deal pierce damage, root harnesk gives pierce resistanse, halving the damage from deathsquitos
Yep. I was really tense the other day after a session making just a small amount of progress along the beach the other day.
tell me about it... it is a threadmill making very slow progress and I do not even fight everything there is but at some point the enemies do get so many that you just have to reduce them some, but then run back to safety because soooo many ... at least i got SOME ashlands gear now, still not easy. And then you come back in the morning and they are all respawned.
I see mentions of seasons. Are there wipes each month?
Wdym?
I saw a few servers that were mentioning seasons and was wondering if it was like Rust where they do mandatory server wipes each month.
Depends on a person running the server, there arent any seasons or wipes in vanila game
The wipes would be a stupid idea anyway, why would you even build anything if it would get wiped
Have you ever played Rust? 😂
I’m glad they don’t wipe, thanks for answering!
Exactly why i never played it and never will
It was fun gun and build game for a bit but I’m definitely having more fun here in Valheim.
Morgen gjall.
I've decided I'm going to get what may as well be a crown for the 'Explorer' player type! I'm going for the fishing hat! 🎣
A side task that forces me to go to every biome and perform one of the more hidden skills and rewards me with an obscure peice of gear? Yes please!
mountain
my bf is on console and toggled the autopickup thing to be turned off. idk how console works or what he needs to press. the controller is for xbox, what does he have to press to make him auto pickup again?
it's not in the console, it's in the game settings
hm, weird. i got no idea how he turned it off then lmaoo
V is the default key to toggle on / off
Try: Left bumper+ push left joystick
but he probably pressed the key while playing
it's a toggle. it's not a setting
but hes on console so he doesnt have that key,,,
Xbox or PS controller?
nvm this worked HAHA tyy!!
thanks so much ill send that photo to him haha
he can find it ingame aswell 🙂
Corpse run icon is funny
i'm having a slight crisis of wondering if it's actually /fun/ at the moment. 🙂
I am honestly not sure it is.
yeah, this phase of the game just might not be my cup of tea with default settings. maybe i would have fun again with some settings tweaks. later tonight i'll play some more with current settings and think about it.
for my first failed attempt at a beach landing, where a bonemaw destroyed my ship in the sea and i died, i actually rolled back server and character saves to the day before. something i've never done in Valheim.
Wait mountains doesnt give a new pickaxe?
But the sense of accomplishment you get when you finally manage to build a base in Ashlands is worth it
no new pickaxe in mountain
I do agree that Ashlands wasn't as much fun for us as some of the other biomes - it did get rather frustrating sometimes
Dang
Next new pickaxe is in Plains
Most mage I see seem to struggle a lot with the ashlands, I'd recommend melee with 3 health but if you tend to die a lot at least make sure to get a new portal down every so often so you never run far in case you die
You unlock the final pickaxe in the mistlands
i've only died once since getting to the beach in Ashlands. That's not my real worry. I see the path forward. It's just a grind that may not be fun enough for me to play as default.
Isn't the final pickaxe the black metal pickaxe from the Plains?
It use yggdrasil wood so you wont be able to make it with just black metal
Ah, that's right. Forgot that. We did some sailing down to Mistlands before we ever killed Yagluth to get the yggrasil wood
It might feel like a grind because you try to fortify your portal too much. I'd say just put a portal bench and shield generator down, put a few bones in it and just progress. You just need to make sure you clear what's aggroed on you before getting back in
One group I played with that usually plays on very hard turned it back to default for Ashlands after 5 failed landing attempts
i'm not fortifying it really. the one i just dropped at the top of a spire was just two stone walls on each side, plus stone roof. just to protect from fire. the grind i'm feeling is the struggle to make it to the spot. with the uptick in mobs, and the increased danger, progress is slower.
Always have a couple portal up for safety and when moving forward carry the stuff to make a new portal
for me, "grind" is when i feel the pace of forward progress is slow.
and of course, "slow" is subjective
I found reducing the death penalty to minimum has helped. It’s still stress tension inducing, but I at least I don’t feel like restoring from a backup every time I die now.
....I have a question
yeah, i'm going to consider that. I'll give it some more time to see first, but i'm leaning towards settings changes.
In my last hardcore playthrough I first landed in the ashlands on day 83 and killed the boss on day 90 after having gathered all the material to make the best armor and weapons, progress does not feel slow, the minute you step in you start unlocking food and material that increase your health, health regen and new armor
Wait, I can't post screenshots here, damn
I don’t feel it worth making much of a base until you get a fortress, and even then consider it more an outpost than a base.
you are obviously a better gamer than me, bro 🙂
You can post them in the help channel
To me the mistland is the one biome where progress is slow but they did a great job for the ashlands at making the progress steady
instead of having it all at the same time after unlocking the right amount of black cores
yeah, i don't really plan to make a base at all. for now, it's just (relatively) safe portal spots. Then I will use a fortress for something a little more safe feeling.
Already did, sorry in advance
there is a fortress not too far away from my newest portal. I think that will be my next goal. try to get a better portal position near it to take the fortress out.
Might want to find a cave where you might find something that will allow you to transport some flametal back to your base that you will then bring back in the form of siege weapon to get in that fortress
yeah, i haven't seen morgen caves yet. My fortress plan is really: Embers staff for corner ballista, and then using the hoe to just raise earth on a side to take out things on walkways, plus spawners
my hope is that the fortress would have some cores available for first stone portal
likely and also likely to have flametal in the chest that will allow you into the center
from research, i think you can use pickaxe on ground in a corner to get in underneath into the center
Hope it is not the case, does not sound easier and is definitely not as cool as destroying the door using a battering ram!
heh.
I think they fixed that exploit. Maybe.
Maybe. I was checking and they definitely fixed tunneling under main walls. Center tower not sure
What do you think about using wolf trousers, drake helmet and root harnesk in mountains? Is the root harnesk worth it or should i just use wolf chestpiece
probably wolf
root harnesk is extremely overpowered but there arent many pierce threats in the mountains
I mean theres bats and stone golems, also wolf would cost extra
bats dont do relevant dmg either way and half the golems, already a somewhat rare encounter, dont care
oh, and cultists destroy you
silver isnt iron
yes, you dont get it thrown at you and the weapons consume a ton
but you have almost no uses outside of mountains tier gear for it
hi
does the board game "launching" oct 1 mean that's when it will be available? Or that's just when a fundraising campaign will begin?
How do you guys clear enemies out of your moat i dug mine way deeper then it needs to be and killing them with a bow is tricky and takes forever
I’ve never made a moat, but putting some tamed wolves (or any tamed animal) in there should work
- just ignore them. 2. the wolf thing is great. i have 1star wolves in my moat, and have tried to make the moat wide enough that raids would spawn inside it.
Wolfs sound like it would work great but have not to got that point in the game yet
You could use boars
i would just ignore them until youre strong enough to kill them. they aren't going to just keep piling up forever
roadmap after 1.0 is released?
i'm surprised you have mobs actually ending up in your moat. in my experience, since the walls of the moat are steep, they never actually go in. sounds like you have slopes
We likely won’t be getting content updates past 1.0
you dont put little ramps out of the moat in a few places?
From what iv seen they push each other over the edge
yeah, but not super frequent
nope. my moat is steep edges all along it. This is to keep my wolves in, so they don't run around outside. and also, it becomes an absolute barrier to mobs, generally
ah i just never bothered with the wolves tbh
it's not really needed. i just found it fun. but a steep moat keeps enemies on the other side. They generally don't end up inside it. most mobs can't jump/fly
ya i also almost exclusively build in black forest, so the only danger is if a troll sees you and throws a rock
I make a wolf pit to kick greylings into
i might take a break from Ashlands and widen my moat more. I really want to see a horde of wolves fight a charred raid
i guess at this point, it's less a moat, and more of a wide valley/plain that's contained, with base on a mesa in the middle. heh.
How can i get natural light in my base?
make big windows 🙂
So i plant carrot seeds and they give me 1 carrot but how do i get more seeds? Do i have to go harvest them?
Plant carrot.
Do resistances ever stack in any case?
nope
the higher will always override the lower resistance
Because it’s applied in blocking calculations instead of damage reduction, serpent scale shield’s resistance can stack with root harnesk/bonemass power’s pierce resistance
If only you could farm blueberries
You can farm carrots
Ookay good to know
Stacking the resistances lets you do stuff like this #screenshots message
maybe i shoulda added the same resistances dont stack, wellp
Do need to kill moder before going to the plains?
yes if you want most of the future stuff 🙂
You mean access to the mistlands right?
I’m just running out of mountain and I haven’t found a an altar yet. I wanted to take a detour to the plains before I started looking for more mountains
with out moder you cant build stuff you need for plains
Can I make the plains weapons without it?
I think you can make new arrows, but that’s about it. It’s not worth going there before Moder.
Blueberries and coal are gonna be the death of me m
i'm assuming you're still in the black forest stage of the game?
Yep
the game will make the former obsolete and the latter abundant soon enough, dw
most items retain use throughout the progression of Valheim. iron most prominently. used for tall builds and even endgame equipment. lower tier food may not always be the case.
Disagree, early biome items also become obselete as you progress.
most retain use, even if somewhat marginal
Im about to attempt the elder im probablywau under prepared but i want to see what its about
What equipment and food do you have?
Finewood bow troll armor deer stew queens jam and cooked deer meat and then my melee is a bronze mace
Is there any way to build a longer bridge without support than by using iron wood?
Oh wait im gonna have to sail there
Make a bronze buckler or bone tower shield. While 1h no shield can be great for the movespeed, it’s a good idea to keep a shield for when you need it.
good idea to make the bronze buckler, yep
Ok what arrows should i use?
Fire arrows for the elder, but melee should be your primary source of damage
His melee attack is very slow so you can easily step back before it hits you
Ok and its ancient seeds for his offering right
Yes, I think you need 3. Don’t forget to bring a portal.
A portal?
not necessary, but nice to have
Good Morning Fellow Vikings! Whats everyones goals for today ? 😄
Bow + fire Arrows, you can be naked and still win (Assuming you dont get hit)
A B P. Always Be Portalling
looks at clock reading 10pm I think I'm done with goals for the day.
Is there anything i need to know before sailing for the first time
Only sail in the ocean at night.
do the opposite of Andre
Why? Then you're wasting sailing time 😂
Don’t be scared of serpents, they’re balanced to be killed with black forest equipment.
You’ll only find them in rain or at night so you can avoid them if you want to. You can’t use either of their drops without iron.
But the goodies that drop ❤️
If hes about to kill Elder, he ain't that far away from Swamp regardless 😛
Serpent scale shield
Just checked my skills, and my daughter played 5 minutes for me last night, to cook food, while i was busy, and i died twice and went from 81 sword to 71.. FML
i have older kids, but i still wouldn't let them play my character in this game. 🙂
I managed to retrieve 31 iron from mistlands on my own without dying 🥳😎
are you skipping swamp crypts, and getting iron from mistlands instead?
lol we are currently at the iron age, and i'm venturing in the mistlands for black cores
serpent scale shield + root chestplate is so OP in mistlands tho
No I'm end-game mistlands, but the place still freaks me out
usually play with friends but they have been busy lately
How do i make i portals?
Make a bronze axe and chop birch or oak trees for finewood
You’ll have the other materials already
10 greydwarf eye + 20 finewood + 2 surtling core
when you pick up surtling cores (from burial chambers), greydwarf eyes, and finewood, you get the recipe
I have finewood but what station is it
with your hammer
workbench
first tab on the hammer
yeah, you need a workbench in range, but crafted via hammer
When placing the portal near the elder, you should also make some stake walls (5-7 + a gate) so enemies can’t see it
I just saw my firsrt 1* BAT 😮
lol what a waste of a star
Haha
and i guess you're playing modded. wiki doesn't show bats can have stars
Nope, I have no clue how to mod, i liek the game as itis
Stock standard normal, altho all 5 bats in this cave have been 1*
hmm
Posted it in SS
Hildir?
howling cavern
yeah, i'm betting you are in the Howling Cavern
which is a mini quest for Hildr
the 1star bats make sense there. and the ulvs.. and other things you'll find
Well, i havent found Hildir yet, and never done a Howling cavern, so i might come back later
it should say Howling Cavern on the zone in text
Oh so it did
nice. it's basically tougher than a normal frost cave. and there's a boss with a drop for Hildr
Āt what point of the game, does one do these? Im full mountain gear
hmm
i don't know. The howling cavern was the last one i did. And I was already wrapping up plains
any time you like i guess
Yeah, all of Hildir's quest locations are slightly buffed versions of the dungeons in that biome.
yeah
Imma prepare and give it a shot 🙂
i guess i never noticed the bats in there had stars
There were even 2* bats
And the Ulvs were starred, so im guessing everythign in there is starred
so they will have a whole 30 health?
lol
so funny
Im headint to the elder boss fight ill let yall know how it goes
GL
good luck!
Also this howling cavern mountain, is the biggest mountain ive ever seen, practically goes to the sky
sweet! big mountains look amazing
Are the howling caverns any good for fenris hair? I never find much (usually 5-10) in frost caves.
Dunno, i hitched my pants up, and sprinted out of it as soon as I could, (waiting on potions to brew before i fully exlpore it)
Hildir’s dungeons are balanced to be taken on with that biome’s own gear, unlike normal dungeons which are for the previous biome’s equipment.
Yeah but still want Stam/Health/Tasty just incase 😛
If I put a portal in the swamp will it get destroyed ?
Make some stake walls around it. Enemies won’t destroy what they can’t see.
Got it thanks
lol so i guess i had too many player objects near my portal in ashlands. i just got the "you got the chills" raid
Moder Vegvisir Aquired ❤️
i wonder how those guys are going to like the ashlands mobs....
lol at the Fenrings going after the charred warriors and such. this is great
granted, that 2star cultist did some work
Cultists dont exist, and even if they did, i doubt they drop a trophy 😂
Well i died but only cause i had 50 of them dwarf guys and a troll trying to kill me almost the whole fight
That’s why you bring a portal. Rolling makes you invincible, so it’s great for getting items back near a boss that may kill you in one hit otherwise
Next time you fight a boss, clear all nearby spawners and enemies so this doesn’t happen
Yea well i forgot to place the portal and my ship is on the coast of the other island so i extra fucked
Always Be Portalling. Portal early, portal often.
Would you be able to sail there with a raft and build a small bed shelter so you can at least respawn on his island, then retrieve your stuff?
Ive done two Frost Caves, and have level 3 leggings/coat, no Cultist trophy tho... The Hair is common as
Probably its very close to the island i live on
i got my trophy from my first cultist kill lol 🙂
Are there cultists in the Howling Cavern? Might explore it for a bit to get one if there are
Altho, they'd be starred 😮
Anyone else annoyed by the mist in mistlands
its part of its personality
would u eat a burger without bums?
They could’ve at least added a command to get rid of it tbh
KFC made a burger with no buns
f# kfc
Right
But MISTlands, needs the MIST 😄
but IT DOES NOT need 2 star gyalls
Do. Bosses not despawn?
It sounds like you had a GREAT time 😄
nah miss me with that, I ran away
A wise man 😛
I was not mentally prepared for a 4200 hp gyall
i would just avoid that section of the mistlands forever
i'd mark it on the map: stay the hell away, doomgjall
the queen fight is so hardcore compares to the others lol
Long as theres no Freddy jump out at us, we'll be right
dont spoiler ahslands!!!!!!
doomgjall lol
if you're trying to go into the Ashlands completely blind, good luck to you sir. And I'd recommend not hanging out in this discord. you'll get spoiled
it's been out long enough that mostly we don't spoiler tag Ashlands stuff. so incidental spoiling will happen
I know about stuff from posts teasers and trailers, but I gotta ask, how sudden is the arrival, how much do u have before getting jumped when u first set foot off the boat
Before.
set foot?
you can see stuff from your boat. and yes, you get jumped in your boat too. on the way in
ye I know, I had exams when it was released, so I waited and started a new world
🗣
i went in, full spoilers, and had a rough time.
which raid is The dead have been summoned?
ashlands?
ashlands
you get that raid in your list after you beat the queen
do they fly or swim?
That sounds like a rubbish answer but is actually correct.
lol
Ill just get the hell out of there none the less
i mean, he asked a yes or no question about the raid, right? i think "no" is valid. it kinda sounds like he's mostly not getting spoiled, so i don't want to provide too much info
i have much respect for ya'll hitting the Aslands with little spoilers. Turns out I'm big baby in comparison
Try beta testing, it's a weird blend of going in UTTERLY blind yet somehow spoilered for everything at the same time.
i do think, as a solo player, the stakes feel higher to me
interseting, but i kinda get it. you see patch notes i assume, as they work on it?
The patchnotes are nicely vague usually, but naturally in the testing channel people are always talking about x, y and z and it makes no sense to try and spoiler tag everything.
I have seen some spoilers, and of course I have been curious as well. Just trying to keep it to a low level of spoilers.. if there is such a thing..
Elder has been defeated it was actually pretty easy when there wasent a million other things also trying to kill me
yeah, the first rule of boss fights (for me) is to clear out the area first, maybe even lay down some camp fires for spawn prevention. Then start the fight after i sleep for the night.
valheim still needs a 2 people bed so I can sleep together with my gf 🗣️🗣️🗣️
I don't think the game really needs to be that accurate.
dragon bed also having the option to be a 2 people bed would do wonders because on busy servers if u want to make a joint sleeping space its hard to put 4 dragon beds next to eachother and it wouldnt look that good
I have killed the elder what now? The raven did not show up to give me ant tips or info
search for the next biome. Which is ||swamp||
You got a key, I wonder where it fits.
Is there still a road map available for Valheim, like in the beginning of the journey?
There hasn't been a roadmap since May 2021 and likely won't ever be. We have one more biome, Deep North, to go. Other than that, see the Swamp update mentioned in #news.
Alright ty
💀
So the spawn for Geirrhafa is always random inside the Howling Cavern? Or is he always at the bottom of a stair case, in a small square, that you can just stand on the rock pathway up and shoot him 😂
I cheesed him similarly. He was down from me, and couldn't get up to where I stood.
Yeah it felt wrong tho #screenshots
Mine wasn't exactly like that. But the end result was.
he's not always that way. I've had to run back until I could jump on to an ice column, then (same).
can a morgen cave be empty? i'm smashing stuff all inside this, and it hasn't popped out yet
Usually means the Morgen is somewhere outside of the cave. They are rare but it happens.
No, all three variants of Morgen Hole should spawn a Morgen.
yeah. i'm confused. i went in, popped bonemass, summoned skellies, walked all around inside it, smashed everything, took the 2 cores that were there. (under average, boo!) still nothing
this cave is JUST on the edge of lava. I wonder if there's any chance that could affect it? but what i heard about dungeons actually being up super high in the sky, makes me think no. so odd. .... good, i guess?
Technically if it somehow managed to spawn outside of the hole I guess it would just drop down and then fall in the lava in that case.
i mean, a win is a win. my first two cores.
Any time you don't have to fight a Morgen is a good time.
can mobs spawn normally on lava?
i actually don't know if lava hurts mobs. obviously not askvin
they hurt my skellies, i know that
wow, embers staff is amazing at taking out ballista from long range. just gotta get that arc right. halfway across the map lol
oh, hmm. i just read on reddit that some putrid holes have walls inside? maybe i could pickaxe around there and find the morgen?
and potentially more cores
oh, really? how do you tell if they have walls?
Is there a good way to find leviathans other than just blind luck?
Sail a search pattern.
large open oceans at night
storms, but it can make them hard to spot
but also I believe there's a band in which they spawn
Leviathans, not serpents.
mb
They require at least 30m depth, so you can ignore narrow water ways.
Not sure. I'll bring a pickaxe in next time and try to smash the walls
Thank you!
is it worth it getting the iron sledge if you get an elite drauger trophy in a casual playthrough?
i make a point to get one and stand next to a spawner and kill what comes out until i get one if i have to... that sledge is such a help in frostcaves!
Big hammers are the best.
Granted, the iron sledge uses SO MUCH iron. I almost regretted it but didn't.
Now I miss my demolisher as I play as a pansy mage.
whats a morgen?
late game (ashlands) monster
i keep making worlds but cant make it past mountains lmao. i need a good group so i can finally get to ashlands
oh my god morgens look so cool????
omg theres so many new things
heh, there's quite a lot between ashlands and mountains -- patience and perseverence will get you there
is ashlands the place at the bottom of the map?
i think the furthest biome i got to was plains but didnt do the boss because the group fell out </3
theres #1024264966712340510 but I find it's best just to drop into other people's worlds or casually invite people for a day or so
it can be hard to keep up a consistent schedule of a particular games -- they shouldn't be work after all
yeah ashlands is the place at the bottom. after mountains is plains. then they added Mistlands biome. and then Ashlands biome
what crafting bench do you need to make a seal breaker?
Galdr table
thanks
