Ok I officially XD hate Elder. I mean it's free lamp oil but still....
I'm about to go to sleep, so no shot. If you can't find someone here #1024264966712340510 might a better channel to find someone
you might hate the next one more if you kill Elder...
@keen cliff I dug a hole hoping for water and it was dry all the way down to max XD I had to fill it all back in.
I would if I was not at work
@tepid prawnAlready killed Elder I am on Bonemass.
and you have raids turned off yeah?
I mean I have everything to summon him, but I'm not doing a dern thing, until I have Rank 4 iron armor and a rank 4 iron mace.
@tepid prawn Yeah but we were talking about the night spawns.
yep so as Bone is not dead you won't get those nightspawns yet then
There's always one or two greydwarf brutes lurking around my property.
nightspawns get much worse after killing the plains boss
@slim imp as long as it's not Lox I'll be ok with killing goblins.
I don't like killing the big cuddly guys.
they will be replaced by Skeletons after you kill Bonemass, nothing after you kill 4th boss and something actually dangerous after you kill 5th 6th etc bosses
XD that's why I'm going to make more than one house lol.
portals to each house one from another. If I have to run, I run.
the night spawns from 5, 6, 7th boss onwards are so scary I like to sleep instead of being out at night unless I have to for night monsters haha
If I'm in the middle of a build or harvesting though... It's hard to be in, before night.
I mean funland is in hammer mode. I guess I could make temporary shelter, but that takes a few too.
@slim imp@tepid prawn heading off discord for a bit. ty for talking to me, while I was using my nebulizer ❤️ was nice having company.
For gaining block does it matter if I have 10 greylings beating my shield vs. 10 drauger?
do you gain faster skill off higher mobs?
All good love talking about my fav game
im starting a new playthrough and have never used mods. What are some good mods that have dropped since ashlands?
what determines the level of enemies, do they get stronger the more bosses killed?
How do you summon Fader in Ashlands for the second time?
There are so many great mods! If you jump to the Odin plus server you can get updates, and get to know mod authors.
Use Thunder store and the R2 mod man it makes modding super easy and multiple play through and can install pre made mod packs.
No, but it's matter if you parry(1xp) or block(0.5xp)
On vanilla normals settings it’s a chance like 10% chance for 1 star and 15% for 2 stars
i should be seeing a lot more 2 star'd stuff in that case?
There might be a factor also for later Levels and bosses. It seems pretty Rare 10% on spawn chance is pretty Low sorry didn’t specify it’s a 10% chance of a spawn vs 10% of total spawns
i don't know the difference
hey guys is anybody around to help for a super quick recovery mission? portals from spawn all the way to our base in ashlands, we’re stuck in lava right next to portal but used all of our gear trying to farm more basalt bombs. ticket submitted on BRS for a couple hours now i think they’re all offline at the moment 😭 any help is appreciated
IDK what you are looking for exactly but I like to play with a set that doesn't effect the core gameplay. No new items/weapons/etc just convenience
For Ashlands I used:
ValheimPlus_Grantapher_Temporary v9.13.3 by Grantapher - This has a ridiculous amount of things you can do in the config. Very powerful and super nifty mod but I pretty much used it to turn on the function for all machines that make them automatically pull and push to nearby chests. You can also make workbenches check nearby chests with this so you don't have to have the materials in your inventory!
ValheimSimpleAutoSort v1.0.7 by Mokutan - allows you to automatically sort like items into nearby chests by pressing the assigned hotkey (can be changed in config, default is o)
EquipmentAndQuickSlots v2.1.13 by RandyKnapp - Makes separate slots for your equipment (utility item, armor, cloak) and 3 quickslots you can throw food or potions into that have hotkeys.
MassFarming v1.9.0 by k942 - allows you do to AOE harvesting and planting. Stamina requirement is a 1.0 multiplier so if you want to plant 25 things in 1 operation it'll cost you 25x the normal stamina.
Better_Wisps v1.0.38 by Digitalroot - makes the wisplight upgradable with a lot of silver. Effectively increases it's extra reveal range by 100% at level 5 (adjustable in config)
Sated v1.1.11 by Crystal - allows you to smooth the food curve, so it's more back-loaded instead of being at half effectiveness half way through the 30 min duration, you can push it to half effectiveness at like 5 minutes left and it will fall more sharply during those last 5 minutes.
BetterUI_ForeverMaintained v2.5.6 by BetterUI_ForeverMaintained - just gives some nifty information such as when you use any skill it'll tell you exactly how much exp you gained -- stuff like that. It also tracks your deaths in the char select screen which is what I used it for primarily.
Probably best for #mods-discussion, main channels are strictly vanilla
yep I'll move further discussion nw
i have the tiniest mountain biomes ever
hey guys, i recently started the new ahslands update and been wondering, which weapon is the best overall to start leveling the skill in the early game.
i heared, dual axes are great. also 1hand sword. ofc besides a staff and bow.
can any experianced player give me some suggestions please 🙂
dang
2 petrified skull spawns that are within the dirt. can't dig into the bedrock to get all the soft tissue 😢
Is there a kraken in the game or its mod, i heard some rumors
There is no kraken in valheim
closest thing to a kraken is the tutel
Im curious what the deep north will bring
snow
i dont know, but i am more than happy to make another winter base
Morgen gjall.
Deep north will bring coldness and despair
or a happy summer getaway and rainbows 🤔
Yes, with carnivorous unicorns
Yes yes, give them more ideas for horror beasts xD
smiffe ....you have the best gifs. js.
what about deadly murder bunnies that kill everything they see
i may have an obsession with the fairy god bunny of caer bannog
it may be my wallpaper
Where's the holy hand grenade?
He has the most gifs as well.
Like The Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog?
Only count to two to get to three, do not count to four and certainly not to 5.
kind off lol
Mod called Zlabs I think
🐢
Imagine orcas
Dunno why I do things sometimes. I decided to build a small outpost at the foot of a huge mountain to collect silver before carting it to my main base at the coast. So after one cart haul through messy terrain and forest I got annoyed and cleared a proper road to this outpost. Maybe I got a little drunk doing this, because before I knew it I had started paving the road, and if you start something you must carry it through. So now that I had a paved road across the continent it felt like the outpost must deserve having a road to it, so three days later after intense building the outpost is now my main base. Many hours spent just clearing, building and moving stuff. Now back to the actual adventure!
since my longhouse kinda big would building a portal hub shuld be done somewhere else 🤔
or should i make a new floor into the house a big one 🤔
I've learned now that moving an entire base takes a lot of time!
But portal hub can be anywhere, I'm thinking of claiming a small swamp island I found with a lone petrified tree, and build a tower around it.
A Ward prohibits people from entering your base via doors. Does it stop people from taking a portal thats connected to a portal inside your warded house? 🤔
you cant build or open stuff in ward protected area that you are not permited in
yes
yea but what about someone taking a portal into your ward
But if that portal is already built
it should ward entering via portal too 😛
Yes, but does it?
it should i think but well ive never used wards
That was my question 😄
oh, you can still teleport if there is portal there, i thought you meant if you can build a portal there
no he meant he uses the portal to get into your ward cause the other portal isnt protected by a ward
Shame
Question is if the portal only opens for characters approved for the ward or anyone
anyone
suggestion time!
go for it 🙂
soon.. i need to finish my moat around my plains base first 😄
Priorities!
in the mistlands is there any unteleportable items ?
Yes, the dvergr extractors
is that the things you use to get sap and is sap teleportable ?
Sap can be teleported, it’s just the extractor needles that you can’t teleport.
Yes and yes.
alr would you guys say its worth to build a base in the mistlands ?
or just like a small teleport place instead since there arnt alot of un teleportable items ?
The best place for an endgame base is somewhere with access to plains and mistlands for farming
i have my main base next to the plains for farming do i build a small teleporter base with a farm and sap extraction or do i build like a big base in the mistlands ?
Main base in plains and a small shroom farm base in the mistlands and a portal chain for infested mines and sap is what I do.
Always have a pocket portal with me so that I can put it down when I find myself in need to bring stuff back to my base.
I also carry around some black metal so I can make a sap extractor whenever I find the needle for it.
I just built a mistlands farm.
is your main base next to the shroom farm or is there a teleporter ?
I have a portal.
Teleporter, I found a small mistland island, really tiny, I flattened it, spawn proofed it and I can grow slightly more than 100 of each shroom.
nice.
I found a nice little bit of mistlands next to some plains so I didn't have to haul blackmetal very far.
Nice.
alr ty guys i will do the same like make a farm base in the mistlands
also what is the best weapon for plains and for yagluth ?
Which one is your favorite?
i dont mind which one but which one is most effective for the yagluth
Depends a lot on playstyle, but Frostner or the Silver Sword are both good against Yag
Frostner and silver sword but a blackmetal sword is also fine, it will do a bit less damage than silver but not much.
Don't think I've ever used anything other than the sword
Silver dagger is also decent.
alr ty
i kinda wanna make a portal room to my longhouse but it would take A LOT of modifications and idk how i would even start creating and fitting that kind of a room
I have never understood this “endgame base” approach.
Build a base in the meadows. Construct portals. Have outposts (such as biome specific farming areas) where you need them.
No?
IIRC you had a couple of portals set up in the long house. What you could do is have one that is the home-base end of you emergency/adventuring portal. And then have the other one take you to a separate building where you house your ‘portal hub’.
Anyone have fishing tips for most exp? Other than cast and reel? Do I get more exp for catching a fish compared to what I get for reeling in an empty line?
I believe you get the same XP either way.
Jeeze, this is gonna be a grind then
But you can cast and reel back in much faster than casting and waiting for a bite.
So the cast and reel technique should net more XP per second.
Faster to get "endgame" materials that dont go through portals if you have a base closer to the biomes in question is probably the reason behind the approach.
How rare is it to find bigger sunken crypts? My first one was huge, almost 100 iron scraps from it, after that only 5-15 per crypt
what are the chances that 5 different mountains didnt have a tower/
to tell me where the boss is
did you also explore the frost caves there?
yes, the vegvisir can also be found there
found it, thx man
They are mostly just RNG and the amount of iron comes down normally to how many treasure rooms spawn in the crypt. If you get lucky and get several chests with high 20's in iron in them you can get a couple hundred iron but I would say in all my play throughs I average between 60-70 iron per crypt but there is no guarantee. If you are in a tiny swamp that is not a "real" swamp those crypts seem to have very little in them. Larger swamps tend to have better crypt generation in my experience.
No. Meadows gets boring after a while. I'll always generally build a nice cozy 2x3 shack on the shore, with a storage barn and small fields -- but for a grand majestic mansion or complex its much more interesting to find an exotic place with a nice view to spend most of your time. And then you can portal back to your quaint little starting spot from time to time like when dropping off heads or something
only issue is finding a nice spot with water access
I like having my 'main' base in the Plains with a Lox pen and chicken factory. I start by building a pretty good house in meadows with a boar pen, then construct a big farm around the pen for growing veggies. I'll make that secure but I rarely stay there once I get past BF.
I prefer plains for big base. Don’t mind the occasional mosquito.
ballista solves the problem xd
of 'squitos? lol, those ballistae are garbage for that.
once your base is large enough they work perfectly
Roads and canals can be fun projects
eh, water access wins
is there a way to get rid of tar pits and the things that spawn in them ?
I don't usually worry about a port until I build in black forest. What's to cart around before that?
For practicality yes
kinda
dig a trench out of the pool
Build a workbench or two
Drain the tar pit completely to get all the tar, then build a campfire right in the centre of the pit. it'll stop spawns even if it's not lit.
wait u can build maypoles only on during certain seasons ?
yes only during summer
oh i like this idea ! defo doing it, island would be a cool spot, or somewhere high
I checked - I was wrong - you do get more XP for reeling in a fish - twice as many.
But I think what I said about XP per second remains true - because you can cast and reel much faster than casting and waiting for a bite.
5-15 is very low - average is around 90, iirc.
i think the way to level up your fishing easier is to make a small pool you can throw a fish in, and repeatedly catch it
I must admit, parts of the plains can be very pretty. But I feel the meadows is pretty too.
The whole game is pretty
i don't particularly find the Swamps pretty at all, but i guess some might
but Meadows, Black Forest, Mountains, Plains, all have their charm to me.
Not sure I’d call Ashlands “pretty”. But it’s also not ugly.
Swamps are def not pretty.
Add Spanish Moss, Palmettos, some gators and mocassins, and it'd feel like where I grew up 😄
practically describing my backyard 😛
are you sure you fully cleared them? Crypts average in the 60s at least from the dozens I've done. The lowest I've ever had was about 30 iron, which was followed directly by the highest I've ever had, 139. 5-15 iron in a crypt should be extraordinarily rare based on what I've heard and the large sample size I have personally
although haven't seen any mocassins -- but some hefty garden snakes have previously gotten themselves wrapped up in my AC :/
i thought id do an open design for the hub but... rain dmg.. so something else
how did i get the 4th workbench upgerade, i never remember
Look in the build menu - the crafting upgrades are all right after what they upgrade.
Yeah i always check everything really carefully not to miss anything, i guess the few bad crypts were just horrible luck, got some bigger ones now
Try it in Google translate then come back
Google translate says it's about something being difficult, and then asking for the game to be fixed.
😭
I think I'll try this.
can somebody help me make a server? one that runs 24/7. i remember that i can take my save from a existing world and put that in the server
It's in my goals to build a training camp, where you can go on various "rides" to level up some skills
what do i make first useing the black cores ?
You can swap out the 3 build pieces until you have enough cores for them all. Start with an eitr refinery so you can unlock recipes
alr is that the one where it likes shoots the stuff out if it ?
Yes. It can't damage iron cage or black marble
oh so ill just build a cage aroung it instead of a wholde black marble building
Or just put it outside a few meters away from anything. Doesn't need a roof to operate.
I died in a lava pit because I couldn't get off a Flametal spire
.. what in the flying fuck am I meant to do to get my gear back
basalt bomb
Basalt bomb?
have you unlocked the recipe
How often does boar breeds? i'm waiting for soo long now...
also can a boar breed with it's own grown up cub?
yes
how much extractors should you place per root ?
Thats must be why they are stop breeding
dıt dıt dıt dırı dıt
fyi its breeding, not breading
bread is stuff we eat
breading is nota thing lol
Oh, thx haha Yeah, not sure why I'm saying that
they’ll get in the mood if you stop staring at them
Yeah, I gotta confess I’m awkwardly nearby
yes ( i consider them slimes cause tthey make mini copies of themselves)
also gotta make sure there is no fire nearby
It has to do with proximity. Put them in a a 2X2 Pen to breed and every time they have a little move it more than 10M away from them into another pen. As long as they are fed and happy they will breed forever this way. You can build an automatic breeder where when the babies are born they fall down more than 10m and the breeding pairs just keep breeding as long as they are fed and you are in range.
so a bit of privacy and peace
From the wiki the breeding description: Boars can breed, provided the boar is happy and well-fed with carrots or other crops, along with there being another boar at least within three meters, and no more than five boars within at least 10 meters. Once the conditions are met, the boar will accumulate love points with one another until the pregnancy starts. Any boar can become pregnant, which means that if two boars breed and one becomes pregnant, they still have the ability to breed and get the other pregnant. Pregnancy will last a minimum of 1 minute, after which the birth of the baby boar is random chance. The level of the baby boar is determined by the boar that was pregnant with it.
Once born, the baby boar will take 50 minutes to mature into an adult.
technically, breading is a thing, it makes fried chicken and other foods much more delicious
can you bread bacon
they'll breed if you're nearby -- they don't care. they just need to be well fed and have enough space in their pens
yes, although bacon doesn't really need any further enhancements. people go way too overboard already with all the things they wrap in it
as long as the bacon aint sweet il eat it
Bacon should never be wrapped in anything, but so many things can be wrapped in bacon (imo).
Mm, pigs in blankets.
Those are a different thing in the states...
Yeah, I've learned.
Ours are much better.
Remind me, which side of pond were you?
UK.
Cool. Then yes, ours are indeed much better.
Just posted in #screenshots my pen
What happened to the PTB patch in June? Did it never make it to Live?
no. we are still working on it. new PTB got released today
Noice. Thanks for the response!
you can read about it in #public-test-patchnotes
is the magical armour and the wands worth crafting in the mistlands ?
They’re worth crafting if you want to use them. Using magic is completely optional and has advantages and disadvantages to melee and ranged weapons.
yes
do you get better wands in the firelands
Yes
which ones ?
Isn't it more fun to find out as you go?
diffrent. not better 🤔
If you want to try magic at some point in the playthrough, it’s best to start in mistlands so you can raise your skills as early as possible
is magic worth or is meele better ?
I prefer melee but both are good, use what you want to use, not what others tell you.
alr ty
The pen is so large that breeding is going to be random. If they are not within 3m of each other there is no chance for them to breed. Doesn't mean it will not happen as they will eventually walk around each other but makes it way slower if they are not next to each other (the breeding pair).
I’ll divide the pen in half until they are close enough. Thanks.
Once there are 5 of them in a 10m radius they will stop breeding. So after a few babies are born you will want to move them away to get more.
If you want lots of boars, just google automatic boar farms valheim. Some interesting builds. One thing to note is you do not have to build them high like most videos show. You can just dig a max depth pit and build the breeder on the edge. That works just as well and you don't have to worry about structural integrity that way. Pit just needs to be more than 10M down from the floor with the breeding pair and you can have unlimited boars.
If i were hypothetically trying to recreate food items from valheim at home, what would be the closest analogue to Jotun Puffs?
Im thinking brussel sprouts
just depends what you like. You also don't have to pick between the two. I run 1 health / 1 stam / 1 eitr on foods and do magic, melee, and ranged attacks
hey guys, im new in valheim and wanted to find someone to play with, is this right chat ?!
We have a channel for people looking for servers and other players - #1024264966712340510 Hopefully you can find someone there.
thanks
Anyone know can tamed asksvin swim between ashland?
They are immune to lava so I am assuming they can swim the hot water back. But you don't need that. You can just take eggs back and hatch them anywhere.
it is hard to drive the boat around to other ashland. thats why i asked since i got extra asksvins
sprouts aren't mushrooms
those are mushrooms?! i thought that only magecaps were actually mushrooms.
so the devs are making magic mushroom jokes. i seeeeeee
Yup, "Internal ID MushroomJotunpuffs"
well then
that's hilatious, but i see it now on the wiki. those look in no way, shape, or form like mushrooms.
Mushrooms come in all sorts of weird foms. Wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that Jotun Puffs' shape was based on a real mushroom.
Pretty sure the wind in this game hates me
i hate it
Opinions I suppose. But staff of the wild and trollstave are so much stronger.
Get eggs, portal them somewhere else
i have no idea why dundr uses bloodstone instead of iolite
it has nothing health related and it deals lightning damage'
the only blood related thing about is is that it's red
How long does it take to brew/ferment meads?
And are there any uses for deer meat besides deer stew?
There are not, as far as food goes
two in game days, food wise don't think so, can always convert deer meat into coal, taming later on too ig
Taming what? Wolves?
ye
agreed. the only 2 possibilities I could think of- 1) it's legitimately a mistake/bug. you would think the lightning staff would be iolite. 2) they may have thought that iolites will be fought over by a group of vikings together. everyone using melee will likely want iolite. wont be enough to go around. bloodstone is sort of less useful. once you use 1 for gemstone cutter and 1 for trolstav, really dont need them anymore. probably wanted to balance and spread out the usefulness of the stones. so they gave bloodstone another use and this way melee and mages dont need to share iolites
once you use 1 for gemstone cutter and 1 for trolstav, really dont need them anymore. - Apart from enchanting your other weapons.
they couldve at least given it a bloodstone related quality, like lifesteal since literally nobody uses it anyways
so it'd actually be fuctional to use
lifesteal for the dundr would be pretty cool as well, since it would actually act like an ashlands tier weapon
eh. i whip out the dundr now and then to give the last couple lightning blasts to a morgen
any way to make the engine draw further for aerial shots? it gets low Q or fully disappearing buildings at a distance
"Literally nobody uses it"
The ability to know the gameplay style of +30k players is certainly a superpower...
i can't see anybody at all using such a high eitr cost weapon for such low damage output
morgens may be weak to lightning, but almost every other enemy in that tier of the game isn't
So far.
and you could argue that all those pellets deal a combined sum of a alright amount of damage, but take in mind that you have to be in basically point blank range to effectively hit an enemy with it, which mages would basically never be in such a situation
also, the dundr has a charge up, so you couldn't whip it out when you're for whatever reason suprised by an enemy
there is no job the dundr does that any other staff couldnt do
i only really use it for silly business cause it's funny, but in terms of practical use, it's useless
it either needs a serious buff or rework
also, gauging the amount of eitr it uses, it's a pretty big waste
it's not even good for aoe since the staff of embers basically has that
as well as the fact that everyone ive played with agrees that the dundr is trash
soon i get to decide my personal verdict on this 😏
Out of 15 million players how many is that?
not many
but maybe like 5 out of those 15 million actually use it as a main weapon
Have you asked them? You really can't make assumptions like that.
dundr is sick dont @ me
i have a question about playing modded, is this an ok place to ask about it?
It's OK to ask, but we do have dedicated mod channels #mods-discussion and #mods-issues
thank you!!! i missed that on my quick look
I've got to wonder. Does someone know why some creatures don't have star variants? such as mosquitoes, lox, stone golem, wrath, etc?
The devs presumably just felt they didn't need to have star variants. Same as not every biome has all types of weapons.
a starred lox would be rediculous
hmmm, getting one-shotted by a 2 star deathsquito is 🤌
I swear all my wolves are sterile. Lots of love making but no babies
hey guys. Where can i ask about modded? Im trying to find out about this MAGIC Fermenter I have but I dont know what mod its from.
ty. guess i didnt see that channel.
breeding wolves is 1000 times easier if you setup a breeding tower. i just did another one in my plains base. much easier to make if you start with a max depth pit also.
hell, it pumped out like 10 babies just while i was cleaning up the build
Breeding tower? hm
there is no belt where holdor is any clue to why?>
Why Hildir quests feel like they punish you for doing side quests by putting meticulously built base at risk of damage during raid?
Are you sure it’s Haldor you’ve found?
Good question tbh
If you don’t care for cosmetics hildirs quest actually puts you at a mechanical disadvantage which is pretty funny ngl
i found the belt, for some reason i thought it would be named belt but nah all good lmao
I don't really care about cosmetics since there is no separate cosmetic apparel slots and wearing Hildir clothers puts you at disadwantage outside of base and sometimes inside base.
So for base builder-explorer Hildir feels like a bad joke
Yep lmao I’m with ya
Loot from those events also looks quite bad
Ikr I found her and was really unhappy it wasn’t the other NPC
It’s supposed to be optional content but it’s a poor excuse for not having a good reward structure
What would you rather have for rewards? More of the same resources you can get anywhere else?
Having metal ores to work as reward probably will be great.
Id love it if the hildir bosses had rewards that were relevant in the next biome, like sealed tower does with eggs
Sealed tower with some smelted black metal would be nice for the no boss progression enjoyers
For me ores sound good because it's tedious to get some earlier biome resources later in progression.
I’d like howling caverns to have a high minimum amount of fenris hair because I always have terrible luck trying to find it.
cave mats are a pain in the butt
you need a lot for the set and the weapons
and potentially even more for building
but you are stuck farming non-respawning caves for a pittance of material
bear saddle ! usable on any bear ! .... "u cant put it on black bears.." 😭
i need me some new good games
You cant wear Wisplight and Megingjord? We finally found the merchant after 5th boss, and it feels irrelevant now, cos need to see in mistlands 😂
is good for night time naughtie naughtie activities
Wow that’s late.
What to feed chickens?
seeds
how should i have my food like is one eitir , one stamina , one health or should i change it to get more eitir ?
oh wow, I managed to get a sea serpent trophy in the middle of the ocean after spearing it, and the last hit was a jumping spear throw
even got the scales
depends on what weapons and armor you want to use
i wanna go for like a mage with the wands im in the mistlands rn
then i would pick one stamina food and two eitr foods
doesn't give too much health so just keep a distance to enemies and attack from afar with the staffs
alr#
You don't need any health food as a mage because of the staff of protection
alr is magic good against the queen and also the ashlands boss ?
Good is a point of view, Anakin.
The only time I died to a boss was when I tried fighting the queen with magic (in my second playthrough). It's supposed to be good against her but I was trying to use too many skeletons and not enough elemental magic.
you can just run away from her and throw some fireballs then she dies
alr
and against ashlands boss i didn't really try full mage so i can't tell
The only elemental damage he's not neutral to is fire so it should work well
i will spam him with spears
He's pierce resistant
why is every boss resistant to pierce
Bonemass is made of blobs and skeletons, which are both resistant
Yagluth is a skeleton, and skeletons are pierce resistant
The queen is a seeker, although that should make her resistant to all physical but for some reason she's only resistant to pierce
Fader seems quite bony so he also gets a skeleton's pierce resistance
i guess it makes sense, but it would be nice if every weapon type would have about the same chances to kill the boss
so many worlds where i never got the drake trophy, and now i get it FIRST try
I really understand why people say Ashland is a reason to stop playing Valheim. Solo its an absolut shitshow
Multiplayer adds a big dose of lag. It’s great.
whats your point. i dont get it
No particular point.
It is, because it's the latest biome and there's nothing beyond that anyway for now
I wanna see a hardcore mode gamer in Ashlands. Solo. Is there footage of it?
at least taming ashskins isnt that hard since they charge into trench
Can’t wait! Looks great
Mistlands was already a pain in the A$$. Ashlands double down it
at least we were able to etablish a safe space
Restarted a new seed with some friends and we’re on yagluth now so will take a while until we reach Ashland but all the new stuff looks cool.
Haven’t looked into it a lot tho because I’d like some things to be a surprise 🙂
that's a good plan, i certainly missed some surprises but some were still there
I don’t mind if something is spoiled obv or I wouldn’t be in this discord but I’m not actively checking the details on everything new 😂
Ngl ashlands was such a disappointment
Why?
It was just very tedious
Too hard?
idk about footage but saw one guy on reddit claiming he did Ashlands on full hardcore without map, portals etc.
"hard" and "annoying" are different ya know
in what way?
Obviously. That’s why I asked If they meant “too hard” with “tedious”. 🙂
I told you it was pretty trash lol
tediously designed, poorly balanced enemies, and its pretty empty
Empty how?
empty not true. its if not even more than Mistlands
Certainly not empty.
the multiplayer lag in the ashlands is by far the most dangerous thing, imo. I've soloed it 3x without dying, but 5 second jumps in multiplayer are just ridiculous
on dedicated server or player hosted server?
if you want/need a battle buddy, I'm happy to help 😄 https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1266907563937632276
lol
How many players at a time do you play with for these lags that you seem to experience often?
other players hosting
then they had bad connection. didnt hear or experienced any lagg when buddies were hosting
only the dedicated server was insanely bad
I'm being serious - I enjoy helping people out (if they want it), and can help plenty with ashlands or any other biome
We’re playing on a dedicated server with 8 people and it sometimes gives a small lag when it saves. Otherwise no issues to the point that it becomes dangerous in combat etc
Who is hosting doesn't matter a great deal as the server doesn't do much. It's connectivity between players that's important.
nah, I believe you, in other games Im just this role. thats why i loled
the dedicated server we had had bad lagg and 110% Cpu usage sadly
well it was the cheapest
Our dedicated server is on a friends server. Very good
not that simple, I'm afraid.
-
Other biomes don't have anywhere near the same lag.
-
If I'm alone in the ashlands on the same server, there's little/no lag (i.e. other players through portal at base).
-
Lag seems to be by far the worst with players close together (literally 5-10 second jumps at times with enemies freezing and teleporting). I think some of that may be the host connection, maybe their CPU lag rolling into other players
-
EDIT: adding this, thanks @distant field for reminding me: in 2 recent cases, I was helping out 2-player groups in the ashlands. In both cases, they commented that the lag wasn't bad with only 2 players. And as an extension of #2 above, with just 2 players through the portal, the lag is not that bad. Once it hits 3 players, it becomes nearly unplayable in some cases.
ye, we dont have that issues
ah okay, fair enough lol. But FR if you want a battle buddy hit me up >_> https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1266907563937632276
its more a performance issue than a networth issue
I keep you in mind^^
I mined my first 18 fMetals. Im fine for now even if my minimap is full of grave skulls xD
Yeah I've had it with a few people I was helping in the Ashlands... one host seemed to take a long time to go through portals, so I think it was at least somewhat CPU/GPU related
Exactly, it is literally the biome with the most amount of content.
And even if it's just about POIs and such, it is still the winner
happy to help you blast some fortresses 🫡🫡 🫡
I just learned the RAM. will be funny^^
fortresses are the best way to get flametal and gems for the gear you probably want
I mined a Lavithan
Can’t wait for ashlands. Looks so fun with all the new crafting and building 😍
hello
I like it a lot, have spent more time there than any other biome. If you're solo, definitely gotta take it seriously if you don't want to die a lot (I've done it 3x without dying - it is very possible). The first landing experience is very "d-day" and a hard adjustment
thanks Odin we made it first try to set a safe Portal
Looking forward to it. Should be there within 2 weeks hopefully (big group of players with varying amounts of dates to take bosses down 😅)
well... as I mentioned above, I rather enjoy helping folks out and am happy to be a battle buddy if desired (https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1266907563937632276)
Exact same issue we had.
For us it seemed like none of us had massive performance issues individually. Though lag was not a thing in any other biome. And any pair of players together in the Ashlands was fine. But as soon as there were three of us on, and we did anything more than just stand around, it would start lagging like crazy. Exactly as marine described.
Good to know. We’re a big group already tho so no help needed. Thanks anyways
thanks for reminding me of this - I added this (edit) to my earlier list:
"4. Once it hits 3 players, it becomes nearly unplayable in some cases."
It does seem there is a major "3 body problem" (slightly obscure physics reference lol) for the Ashlands, performance wise. The major lag spikes (5-10 seconds) make it nearly unplayable, and at the very least you essentially can't melee or you could just unhook, think you're okay, and then be dead 5-10 seconds later.
or the third player pushing beyond the limits of what the game can handle resource wise
the difference between 95% resources and 101% resources is "fine" to "this is fine"
i dont wanna make a basic circle for a portal hub
Chunk master is the key as usual. The number of people isn't hugely relevant.
i want something not a circle 🤔
make an octagon
yeah it may just be that that's a common tipping point for performance issues. I did say in some cases! I doubt anything is universal, but in this case it seems like it's probably somewhat common
the chunk master? you mean bonemass? 😆 😋 ☠️
Um, no...
(it was a sarcastic dad joke)
What does “chunk master” mean?
The first player in a chunk becomes chunk master and all network connections go through them.
Ok, why is it only a problem in Ashlands and not other biomes then?
So if someone with poor connectivity becomes chunk master, everyone gets lag.
It's a problem everywhere, just exacerbated in Ashlands because of resource requirements.
Does chunk master transfer if current chunk master leaves?
Yep.
So, if chunk master logs out and back in that should help?
I believe so.
Well, I may never get the chance to test that theory. But I shall keep it in mind.
is it still planned that there will be an ocean biome update or is all that’s left is the Far North
we dont know
Valheim is the game where you shit your pants every time you enter a new biome and you see a new enemy
Ocean Update was never planned, and Deep North seems to be the end, i though think that there will be something smaller inbetween Ashlands and Deep north, similiar to the Hildir update.
But really we don't know we will see when it comes around.
and then after a while you wonder why you ever shat your pants about them 🙂
Hello. I'm looking for new friends to play Valheim. Since my English is not very good, I would prefer players from the Czech Republic / Slovakia.
what is a chunk?
lol
There won't be a full expansion around Ocean as for the regular biomes, but they have said that they would like to make something for the Ocean that will likely appear as a minor update before the Far North biome update (similar to the Hildir's Quest update).
I hope the third iteration of serpents are smarter than the bonemaws
Still haven't entered Ashlands. Was on break when it launched and started over because my saves went poof in the meantime. Now I have found the old saves, but I like the new world so whatever, no rush...
for buildings to cause fps they gotta be within 50m of u ? or ?
If anything is added to oceans it should be something new, not another serpent
I bet there’s info about it somewhere but does terraforming affect performance more than building pieces ?
anyone have a guess off the top of their noggin' why my frames drop when it gets really windy?
Actually less according to a youtube vid I saw.
Oh nice. I’ve done some massive changes to the landscape by raising the ground in big areas etc. was thinking it was something that would mess with performance a lot
You mean like the charred-twitcher/greydwarf? Or the lava-blob/growth/blob? Or the voulture/bat?
ayo ? 😭
the first two i can see, but volture and bat have only flying in common (bats are much more annoying)
Oh sorry, you're right... I should have said drake, not bat
that would be a bit more accurate indeed 🙂
Kraken are from Norse mythology. A very rare spawn of a kraken in the ocean would be awesome 🙂
Valheim is indeed Kraken lackin'.
Thoughts on the devs going back and bringing the plains and earlier biomes up to the level of quality you experience in AL and ML?
define quality
I feel there is a huge tonal shift between plains and earlier and mistlands
It went from very simple mechanics and visual design to more high-quality and other creative changes such as the mist
Going back in this could could include adding new enemies, weapons, building components, maybe even give each biome a gimmick like the mist
That sounds more visual than tonal
Simply adding more content isn't going to make the quality of the biomes increase
what would increase quality of biomes?
Earlier biomes are perfectly fine as they are, no shortage of quality in any one of them tbh.
One thing that would be awesome is running water and lakes at elevation, and waterfalls. But alas I know that's not going to happen.
One thing I wanted to see in valheim since I first started playing 21 or when it was I’ve always wanted to see some secrets being found out in the world for people to discover. No real incentive to explore other than for resources. (That was somewhat addressed with quests I guess )
eh, atgeir could use a weapon each biome
The tonal shift in the plains is subtle, but it's there, imo.
plains is basically "go out and do some looting and pillaging"
Yeah, with open dungeons, and a new way of 'mining'.
The Hildir's Quest update brough something along these lines, more like that would be nice.
In fact I feel there is a tonal shift in every new biome. But the scale of the differences increases as you get deeper into the game.
Could be as simple as making dungeons have small chances of containing some useful equipment, not just resources. For example you might find a bronze sword - perhaps with a different appearance even - in a burial chamber. It would be a normal sword, same damage etc and needing repairs just like other swords. Just a cool treasure to find and if you get lucky it gives you something that helps you in the biome you are in.
Mountains is perhaps the exception that proves the rule.
Yeah... I was missing a reason to go explore other than for resources and bosses.
make fenris stuff drop from fenrings and people may actually care about the biome after moder xd
After getting cultist trophy, you mean. lol
only rancid remains trophy is worse kekw
there's also something to be said for the biomes starting simple and ramping up in complexity as you get to the new biomes
Or wraith. But are those needed for anything?
no, just completionist stuff
biomes are kinda the opposite
they get easier as you progress
I mean the transition from one biome to the next.
somewhat
but id argue plains is simpler than swamp or mountains
hmm. debatable, maybe. i agree that one seems to be an exception
it does seem the intent to need to learn different things as you go biome to biome, in general mastering more skills in the game
thats how games tend to work
else the'd be boring
yes... i'm saying this in response to people who are asking to go back and rework early biomes to make them more complex
I would argue the learning curves are progressively steeper, but shorter.
So, they can seem easier if you're ~~not ~~investing time and effort into upgrading.
swamp is the only really nasty one tbh
game goes from easy mode to hardmode during a 5 min boat ride xd
I hate being wet. That's the worst debuff
freezing is worse stats wise but its easy to bypass
I think part of the Swamp is the devs did such an amazing job with the feel of the Swamp. There's a difficulty jump, yes, but there's also such a dreadful feeling they've created.
swamp is a pain until you killed your second abomination
I stand by my previous assertion. Also, Discord has a reply function.
the second part wasnt directed at you
I would have known that if you used the reply function
What would that accomplish?
make the grind for building less annoying
raiding mountain biomes over and over again gets tired really fast
For the braziers?
i do agree that i have given up trying to max level up my fenris gear
It's an interesting point. In Ashlands, your fuel source of choice is clearly coal yet, if you want a standing brazier, you need Fenris claws.
glad you could appreciate my terrible joke lol
I assumed that the world events were (at least in part) intended to provide resources to players that had progressed beyond particular biomes without having to revisit them.
fenrir claws and hair are the annoying exception
world events, plus how later biomes tend to have minor ways to get some earlier resources.
I suppose, technically, we can get some of that from the "You get the chills..." event, but that's considerably more hard-core than standard Fenrings. Maybe there could be two tiers to the "You are being Hunted..." event, based on progression, where the wolves start to include Fenrings as well.
except fenrings would need to drop fenrir claws or hair; since they don't
technically we get red jute that way lmao
True. A logical inconsistency that needs correcting. I'm sure it's on the list for the devs at about position 1,654.
001,654?
i didnt say you forgot a comma xd
Nor did I forget said comma. 😛
Although, this is the first time I've used leading-zeros to lead someone to being trolled. ;P
Is light from the Dvergr Circlet penetrating floor a bug?
Reproduction is: Build a building 2m off the ground. Put an Item Mount on a wall inside. Mount Dvergr Circlet. Note how the light from the circlet can be seen on the ground below the building.
add a few zeros to that and you have my salary
OMG! That's over 9,000!
If the dvergr circlet cast shadows, it would be blocked by some shields.
so far the best raid event is the fulings. black metal delivery
"They were bros, man." will get you more black metal. But, I don't know about how frequently it will occur.
yeah, i've gotten the bros raid a couple times so far. the wolf moat rips the bros apart lol. they even fall into it on their own
I love how black metal is a never ending supply if you hang out alot in the plains biome. I have a war going on outside my castle between the black forrest creatures and the plains creatures so I just have to stand and watch while they produce materials for me 24/7 😄
lol
i'm breeding wolves in the plains right now. i'm going to take a horde with me and run around
how many 1star wolves to steamroll a fuling village you think?
how does wolves handle deathsquitos?
deathquitos hit for 90, 1star wolves have 160 health i think
and they are fast enough to target and attack
That would stagger the wolf unless they get lucky
good point! Luckily they will have a bunch of friends around
I think the damage range for enemy attacks is 70-100%?
I rarely have pets in any of the survival games I play (icarus and valheim) because its just so bothersome having to protect them from stuff when doing other things in the base etc
so 1 wolf will get stagged, and one of his bros will hopefully kill the ssquito
They might, but it could fly away fast enough. If you have a bow you could kill it before it hits a wolf.
if i'm there, i'll just smack it, yeah. this will be an interesting experiment
My question is: Where do the Fulings get black metal, and why can't I access the source?
What if the fulings are the black metal???
No record stores in Valheim 🙂
since they only drop it after you kill them, isn't it actually death metal?
I think it's like, they extract it from their diets, and it ossifies in their guts.
Wait... black metal is Fuling kidney stones?
wait, so the chests full of blackmetal are just like urns of dead ancestors? aw man!
Why do you think it's shaped so weirdly? 😉
we're freaking viking grave robbers!
It's all death metal in the tenth world!
Synonymous descriptors are synonymous. 😛
I guess we've been grave robbers since we got hold of antler and treasure ships anyway.
we are much worse at that stage in the game lol
so true.
Do you think Necks have a proverb about 'sticking their necks out'?
once you kill the giant deer with lightning powers you just turn insane
digging out the eyes of dead greydwarves
skinning massive trolls
gutting humans
eating their guts after stuffing them with boar meat
that's how you get baby necks
Wait... so, neck tails are... 🤮
lol, that's not where I was going, but sure.
Why do starred Necks have multiple reproductive organs?!
cause they are pack leaders? so they get more wives
This has become a logistical issue...
let's not overthink it
Do raid mobs despawn a while after the raid? This troll i was running from just disappeared really quickly
I now have a parody of Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World" playing in my head - the parody is called "Dyin' in the Tenth World"
I've seen them retreat and yes even despawn while I was looking at them
insert gimli laugh
Is that a laugh before or after Gandalf fell to the Balrog?
the one at helms deep
When he discovered his cousin was dead? No, that's Moria. Nvrmd.
Oh, the laugh after he got tossed by Aragorn. Yeh, fair call.
I meant the one after legolas' joke, didn't know gimli laughed so often
I mean, if Aragorn tossed me I'd laugh.
Me too
I want to make a joke about boxes, but I might get banned.
Smart thinking
greetings
That seems like a really lazy way to approach the channel... 😛
it is
Nah. It would be if you'd typed "Hi".
"Greetings" require more effort.
How long usually from Testing patch to live patch?
Depends.
okay, my new plan is to find the closest untouched fuling village. then ride a lox with a group of about 20 wolves trailing behind me straight into the middle. it will be glorious
I'll be the judge of that!
I'm not invested as a moose, I'm judging the gloriousness.
i will try to remember to screen record when i do it
i did screen record my wolves vs Moder fight. But it wasn't that interesting
i should have recorded the comedy of errors getting the wolves up the mountain. Then played it at triple speed with the Benny Hill song playing in the background
I'm really not judging anything, and I won't watch a video. I'm just playing around. Please don't put any effort in.
I found something of a fluke with the structural integrity mechanic. You can hide iron wood beams inside other wood beams and it will give them a fixed to terrain status so you can build off them/more integrity without moddi g the mechanic out of the game. Surely a bug but wouldn't be upset if it's not patched.
I will judge. Please put the effort in, 😛
I believe that is intentional. You can reinforce stone with iron wall pieces too.
I expect a full report! Double-spaced, but less than 3 pages.
It’ll either say “it was glorious” or “it was not glorious”.
But you shouldn't be able to attach them at the same angle as an already existing piece, which is the case. I can build a regular vaulted roof, and just hide the iron beams inside the center after to increase the integrity of everything else and upward
Great! Middle ground is for suckers.
Why?
You can't attach any other wood pieces at the same angle as an already existing piece on the same edge. It also gives the piece it's connected into a fixed to terrain integrity status.
Right, that's, partly, why I believe it's intentional.
And that wood iron beams itself doesn't have to be connected to other wood iron beams that are connected to the ground
What I'm getting at, is when your structure reaches a red status, you can add an iron beams inside of it, the piece itself, hidden from view, and that piece will now count as fixed to terrain.
They need to be connected to either the ground or stone to get the maximum integrity out of them.
I understand that. And that is what I'm getting at. Because you do not need to connect the wood iron beams to the ground
It may be intentional, but it makes no sense. The build angles are not a product of the biome, they're a product of the player. Why would a player's interpretation of 26° be different when they're in the meadows than when they're in the plains?
Literally, you can hide it inside a beam. And it will count the beam it is hidden in as fixed to terrain, without that iron beams being rooted to other iron beams actually connected to terrain, is what im getting at
They're not different.
I'm not sure that's true.
I have a structure I built doing that... And that is why I made a comment lol
Can't tell from that what you're trying to illustrate
I've built with mixed wood types too, and I don't recall ever seeing it do that.
Build a regular wooden home to its maximum height. Then, hide the iron beams inside of the top rafterand 1 or 2 angles downward. It will either turn them green or blue when you highlight to attach to it. Try for yourself.
From biome to biome, the build items that are tagged '26°' or "45°' do not align. In fact, the later you get into the game, the less likely same-biome build pieces are to align as well. Valheim is one of my favourite games, I've spent over 2,000 hrs in it, but the expansions seem to get lazier and lazier.
I've done literally that.
You're attaching it at the same angle the already existing wood is at, by the way. Hiding it inside. It shouldn't be visible except for the iron pieces partially clipping.
yep, done that.
Must've doing something different because my results are more integrity at a higher build max than regular wood allows for
Yes, but it shouldn't be resetting to blue, from my understanding, unless it's connected to stone below full red.
Shouldn't. But it is. I have blue highlights at the ceiling meanwhile green below
Anyone knows when there is a sale on valheim? 20 aint alot but it can cost 10 so
Even after waiting for the stability values to propagate?
Yeah. Some adjacent pieces go blue but then green, some stay blue
hey guys i have 2 questions about this game
can anyone answer me in dm ?
Can't you ask questions here?
no
🤦♂️
Huh, strange. Literally never seen that. There must be something peculiar going on.
Just ask the questions...
i'm doing so much dicking around in the Plains right now... i really should go find the last totem and kill the boss. oh, i guess i have to see what the altar looks like. i haven't been to it yet.
Its hard to miss
helo is ther any comand in the console to see the entire map ?
yeah, i have the map location. i just haven't been to that area yet. appears to be a short boat trip
i'll go establish a small outpost, maybe bring some wolves over there
reveal map command
deep north when?
When it's done
It probably isn't even started yet
We're still getting patches for Ashlands, when you do think?
#public-test-patchnotes There was a public test patch released recently
It has been silent for a while until the patch but my guess is they were busy fixing the sliding problem
That and they were on vacation...
Right, makes sense
yeah. no one wants to be in a hot office during summer
And after making the Ashlands a vacation is definetly well earned
ashlands is basically summer
When I have a moment, I'll make a quick record
lol i can spawn proof this entire island that Yagluth in on: #screenshots message
hah, lox just spawned on it
gonna tame the lox on Yag island. They will be worthy battle buddies
They do a lot of damage but also die very fast
there's 3 of them. the island is so small i'll have to be careful haha.
they are hanging out RIGHT on his altar
It would be a good base location. You could use the pillars to build very tall if they don't get completely destroyed
the fingers aren't indestructable?
No, but it's unlikely they'll be completely destroyed. You could build around damaged parts to hide them
another shot, where you can see the lox and another small island near with a tower: #screenshots message
i'm totally going to put a base here
You could lure Yagluth to the area where you took that screenshot to keep his pillars safe
great idea
it's interesting. the lox totally spawned in after i walked through the hand. and i guess they don't spawn in hungry, as they are ignoring the cloudberries.
or else it's too far away, but i doubt
They do spawn in hungry. Otherwise they'd all be partially tamed
hmm
okay, i guess i didn't toss the berries close enough
but this is a fun Yag location. almost makes up for the sadness of my Elder altar being at sea level
For base building purposes?
yeah, i wanted to setup a portal hub underneath the elder altar
Find another one then?
I built a trophy room under one. Only way in is through a portal
yeah, that's a lot of work though. just trying to find one without using a map tool
Yeah I guess. Annoying task
@keen cliff XD I built a fort just for the heck of it, and wanted to fight Elder by myself... It was hilariously fun. two layers of stone walls XD a group of fires on the outside and a little room at the top where I could actually shoot him with arrows. That way I could actually aim and shoot, without having to readjust. He got stuck at one point and just stood there letting me set him on fire.
That method works though XD if you can't dig under the altar... Just build a fort of some kind.
i've already beaten Elder, just wanted to make a portal room under it
Haven't tried it with wood, yet, but I'm guessing you'd have to build a lot of layers.
Well true, after you beat them, it's like what do I do with this space now.
if you reveal the map in the game, then any new updates eg: The Deep North, will not load or work properly on that world.
It is better to instead look up your world map online on a world seed generator
It won't do any of the sort.
Did they change that? It used to be if you explored land and revealed it on the map, future biome changes wouldn't happen.
Exploremap doesn't generate content.
exploremap does not generate any terrain
We had a chunk of Mistlands in 1 world that remained unpopulated.
oh yeah thsoe are separate things.
exploremap and generation are 2 different processes.
So let's say you have a pre-Ashlands map and used exploremap on it.
The landscape changes due to the Ashlands changes. Do they re-gen the map?
hm, maybe I'm mistaken but a server I am playing on, they told me they had that problem. they had to re-launch the world because Mistlands and Ashlands were broken
Its possible those areas were manually explored
https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/14/science/stonehenge-altar-stone-scotland/index.html
Reading about this had me thinking about the various megalith structures in Valheim
no they had revealed the whole map. they posted a photo of it in the discord server. idk which command they used so maybe i am uninformed of the subject I just wanted to give a warning incase. it is worth considering and looking up at least, if someone were going to try itr
I think the map data might be wrong (for Ashlands, they sank a bunch of stuff to ensure there was no land connection) but I also swore they had accounted for that and re-generating the cached map data was part of new biomes?.
hm, i have no idea hah. was just giving a friendly warning to someone because I thought that is how it worked and happened to someone, maybe Im wrong
man lox appear dumb. they eat some food. then wander away from it and get hungry again, but are too far to see the food lol
Guys
guys
what's the most efficient way to take down an abomination?
Use a slash weapon such as a sword or axe while it’s standing over a surtling spawner
then try to either parry or dodge. it can be staggered from your parries
is anyone here a mod?
What food did you have?
i like to run away before i die 🙂
Also what shield do you have
You should only be eating food made at a cauldron. Try queens jam instead of a raw carrot
If you need to speak to mods, you can message @dusky pivot
You could try to bait their attacks and avoid them so you can get an idea of how to time parries against them
If you didn’t know yet, rolling makes you invincible
i had a good amount of rasberries but idk how i ran out
ye but predicting the moves of that beast is hard considering how big it is
It only has 3 attacks, and they’re all very slow with a low turn speed
That’s why I said you should try baiting the attacks then watch from a safe distance
ok i died again trying to get my stuff
do i kill myself with a rock in inventory to get the corpse run status effect?
Make sure you rest before returning for loot, and eat some stamina food to sprint and dodge more
Also corpse run would help, you could try that
thanks
okay, finally. go t the lox tamed, and moved into a pen, and i've spawn proofed the yagluth island
This is honestly the only game where having the higher ground is a dis advantage ....
It depends on the situation. Taking out wolves from a rock during the 'hunt' can be a lot of fun. And it's a great way to cheese Bonemass by standing on his crypt.
Not always, you can much more easily jump over enemies if they aren’t above you
I higher ground by 1mm
VASTE majority its a clear dis advantage, unless you magic ( and still) range attacks not so good
I really wish this game would update and imrpove this horrible combat
just bad, unfinished
Valheim has my favourite combat of any game
Of course, it's unfinished...
Yeah, I wish they would.
What? Yes, they're going to finish the game.
What game has worse combat I really wonder
Yes, I wish they would
Finish the combat before
what are u on 'bout
Clearly this could be extrapolated from what I said
Aside from deep north enemies, the combat is finished
Derek said it has to be finished
I absolutelly agree with him, there is a lot lacking. and honestly, poorly made. The combat simply feels not correct.
I mean there are PLENTY of people wanting to be able to aim and select the hight yourself. making combat more complete.
At the moment having to get lower r higher of 1 mm because the hitbox is bad, is kind of a let down, but i have good hopes
I've not said any of those things, but sure.
?
You're putting words into my mouth.
You answered that abotu COMBAT
Seriously ?
Yes. Please don't do that.
I said combat is bad just unfished,
You directly replied to that " Yes they are going to finish the game.
Because i said the combat felt unfinished, you are changing your word.
Its fine I will believe your last words, but dotn say you didnt say that
That’s finish the game, not finish the combat
Settle down, y'all
thats just crazy, chat is right here.
He clearly replied directly to ( combat unfinished)
No, my direct reply to that was 'Of course, it's unfinished'. If you're going to quote me, quote me correctly.
Maybe he needs to follow the discussion more then before answering, it leads to confusion
eh the game's not fully fleshed out i think. seems almost there with the last biome at least but im just crusing till it's done. things are open to change i think so just waiting to see what they cook up next 😏
Yeah we were talking about combat nothing else
yeah I know the game is not finished 😄
It is funny that annyone would assume a ( early access) is finished even more than others would assume others assume are unfinished, even more when others add on that ignoring a part of it. XD
@vocal rivet always for the missunderstanding lol
I am looking forward tho
elevation and height i find slightly strange but i don't mind it much
for the reply here, not sure what u mean by "be able to aim and select the hight urself"
they had done great things and changes.
Like the world MOD the best thing added imo 😄
Yeah it makes sense, it is indeed a 3d game.
The inability to aim up or down , is just ...., dumb
remember our common foe.. the toughest boss...
It is a 3d game, so your position on the y axis is important in combat
imagine not able to point your sword anywhere but horizontal, its really absurd and make the combat a clownfest imo
yeah and my aim too
ngl my brain died trying to read lol. guess my brain hasn't turned on yet
At this point the game should have been a TOP DOWN game with no elevation
Yeah I know 😄
ohh like ur melee attacks if ur looking up could swing up? like skyrim?
This is what you’re asking for. If you could aim up and down, all fights would play out as if you were on a flat plane.
If you need to aim sword higher, jump then attack. No need to thank me 😁
Kind of represent the combat xD
It was smartly put to share the feel
Higher is not the problem 😄
I am mostly talking about when you have the "higher ground" ( also was a star wars reference)
you cant aim down, you have to use the AXE, or Spear and then do it
and the spears is only because he hits in an arc down like the axe
Something isn’t broken just because it doesn’t work like other games you’ve played.
well you could slap it in #suggestions and call it a day i suppose
i don't mind if it goes either way
I love Valheim combat personally
no not at all tho. If you climb a rock you can still kill underneat, if you have an enemy on a rock you can still use the elevation and hit. ESPECIALLY because you can aim up or down it allows more elevation use. WIthout that its more like a 2d.
The game LITERALLY has to be considered a multiple level 2D plane when fighint pvp
since their is no Elevation in the Atgeir for example.
being able to aim would be nice, but i also enjoy using silly jump attacks and trying to fight on good ground
Dudes wanting it for PvP 🤦♂️
Jump attacks aren’t silly, they’re incredibly powerful when used right
Yeah just unfinished. It is exactly the same as I did when I started to remake Paragon on Unreal Engine.
IT was really easy to have this combat system.
I actually made a mini shooter like this, Let me send the link somewhere to show how amateurish the combat system is
No need I don't care
You can ignore it then, I dont want to intrude ignorance
Valheim doesn’t need every feature of every game’s combat ever made, it needs its own unique combat system.
I never said that and I agree. There is a bare minimum tho
yeah i know they are, but they look funny and weird to me
By sounds of it you can make a better version, so instead of typing so much, go do it 🙂
The combat is less than bare. Hit fix, dodge fix, block parry fix, and thats it
I am just saying, combat needs finish and derek clearly agrees with me
It is not horrible but it is still bad and unpolished
If you want the combat to change so dramatically, just play a different game with combat that works how you like it.
I am also sorry I dont want to hurt fans' feeling, I am just tired of still having such a bad system after 1kh
Sounds like Valheim isn't the game for you, good day sir
dramatically? DRAMA TI CALLY????
Litrally allow me to aim my sword up and down XD
Does not have to be 100degrees, maybe just by 10-25% THat would help. Winden the arc hit then. SOMETHING.
It is literally a TINY minor change
These kind of comments ....
It’s a tiny mechanic that would significantly change how combat plays in mountains and any uneven terrain
But combat is trash and it would not dramatically change, again
10% would remove the bad system and still have to use elevation like rocks or mountain etc
These chat is going in circles.
Back when the troll gets bored
People assume waaaaay too much of what I said and mix it with stuff, just ask me
Yeah same. Replies just feeds it 😂
No one forcing you to participate and be rude.
People discussing combat and others giving "reasons" why not.
It is interesting to see what excuses people use for bad systems
Lots to learn ( also the assumptions people make whern they love something and are hurt)
I dont blame them i get it. not always rational but i get it
People have the RIGHT to love things no matter how stupid it is. its all love brothers
A system isn’t bad just because it doesn’t work like the other games you have played
No its bad because it does not work at a logical metaphysical concept
lol
My GaMe MuSt FoLlOw AlL ReAl LiFe MeChAnIcS
Has nothing to do with or compared to other game, i never did, i am talking about valheim and only valheim.
At best I compare it to some reality of physics and how humans have used weapons, but i am not even THAT picky, a little tweak all i wanrt 😄
What a big assumptions
That's not majorly helping, to be fair
I am just disappointed in a WEAK viking 😂
The Viking is strong if used correctly
He is weak still. If using correcting is compensating for his weakness, then yeah I AM strong XD
I am REALLY good now for compensating for their weakness, won the game on hard, was hell but i did it.
Yet it is bad
Viking is weak cause he cant look up or down XD
He has neck muscle but no shoulders apparently XD
We can definitely look up and down in the game.
His elbows are glued to his ribcage
Only using his neck yes 😄
How does YOUR body work?
He looks up so he does not see what he hits in front of him, because vikings do not have any concept of hitting where you aim xD
lol at this chat
My finger can point where I look xD hahha
I can swing a knife up and down. I have a SHOULDER
Or you could reposition yourself and hit the enemy horizontally, instead of pretending it’s a different game with different combat mechanics
Sorry guys, at this point I am just making fun of the system. I know you all cannot do anything, kind of disapointed that the same gatekeepers still defending it. I hope that changes.
Now I am just laughing and mocking the system
I dont want to get anyone upset
Yeah I do that, does not mean the system is not bad.
PLAYERS compensating for a bad system, its still a bad system, I am honestly in awe that some people defend that logic.
Nothing about that system is objectively bad, it’s just not something you personally like in the combat.
it's just the game, man. why can't pacman jump over the ghosts? why didn't they add that? are they stupid? lol
Runing around to have right elevation when not sliding its just boring in combat and not challangeing. YOU dont try to fight the enemy you fight the mechanic.
packman did not try to have elevations 😄
Design logic is what's called
why can't i sing Barry White to my lox and speed up their baby making process? this game is SOOOO incomplete
And valheim didn’t try to have vertical attacks, and for some reason that’s not design logic?
and btw, who cares? it's a game you spent at most 20 bucks for
THis actually works, I tested it
8
But thats not the point. Everyone here thinking I am hating on it. etc.
All i said was the combat needs finishing this isnt good. no excuses lol
once again i petition the mods for a dedicated #bitch-and-moan channel
greetings
previously i called it #1202313396356128808-vent
What spells does the Black Metal Wizard cast?
Not really something we want to encourage.
banging tunes and noisy guitars
i think he casts Angel of Death of Slayer
Similar spells to a fuling shaman, probably
Nice when you go into Ashlands you turn it into a mosh pit
pretty spot on. with the amount of Pyro some bands i go see watch its pretty spot on
closer to bathory and mayhem all though i have a reign in blood flag right beside me
Clearly it would be needed with all the issues still in game, you are right 😄
🥰
No, people can discuss issues with the game entirely without bitching and moaning. Believe it or not.
It was sarcasm, believe it or not. Please
already started casting my spells now that i noticed a metal channel in here
or #Please-ban-me-now channel? 🤔
Do i get anything new if i craft the iron cooking station?
Sarcasm don't translate well over a screen with text...
so better not try to use it
You can cook serpent meat for access to the 2 best health foods available before mistlands, and cook other large meats later in the game
Yeah, but it is harmless and with open minded its no issue, derek did not insist on it.
oh ok so i dont need it when im in the mountain era
You do if you want to eat serpent meat or serpent stew. You’ll definitely want one or both of these for the boss.
how do i kill a serpant?
i've been so low on iron for a little bit, just looked in a random chest and found 52 iron
NICE
It could save quite a bit of time tbf xD
If you just want the meat shoot it with a bow from your boat
If you want the scales too you need to kill it by a beach or use a harpoon to drag the serpent onto land, because the scales sink
thanks
I'm desperate to see what Jean Saul Partre has to say now.
why nerf the ashlands? 😢 tbh, two of us landed there, it was tough and chaotic for sure, but still really managable, it was just what we expected for a land in a “constant war”.
I think it was nice how it was...I bought Valheim for the survival aspect, not for a leisurely stroll through one of the game's final biomes.
Anyway, that's my point of view, I guess the developers know where they want to go.
I still like the game a lot and still think that the team is doing a great job but i used to like the challenge in ashlands and the “always overwhlemed” atmosphere that's all, just a little disappointed to see the biome smoothed out, lets see how it goes 🥲
Has anyone seen a one or two star lox yet? And where can I find them? Thx.
(for us, the real problem in the ashlands was performance, especially near the fortresses 😅 )
it's not been nerfed?
The current public test version has higher spawn rates than the previous public test version, and you can always go at night if you want more to fight.
yes...I guess there has to be a balance between those who like the adventure/survival aspect and those who just like to wander/build
I can understand that I guess, I can take my share of compromise
Have you played the latest patch?
There aren't any.
That is very sad news
Any one looking to join a fresh server? On Xbox, me and my buddy are playing we wanna add more people
What are your settings?
Just regular vanilla settings
never seen in 200h
That's because they don't exist.
This makes my lox army idea less attractive now
we're playing it tonight, maybe the ease is situational and maybe with hindsight we'll find it okay 🤷♂️
Just.. play it. I think you'll find it's not as 'nerfed' as you think it is.
Hey, guys. You all seem pretty knowledgeable. I just followed the link to the servers and lfg thing and I saw a role-playing section offering new armor and all that. If I was to get on a server like that and collect new armor could I carry that back to my original seed?
I mean... armor not in the original game. Modded.
Yes if you use those same mods when you login. Most of those mods and EQ only exist with the mod running. So be aware of that.
You could probably bring that to your world but you’d need to have the mods installed
Ugh... I don't want to run mods so that's a no go for me.
Thank you both for the responses though.
You don't want to run mods but want modded items?
I play on Xbox One because poor. I did mods for Starfield and it slowed my game down so bad I stopped playing.
@keen cliff I finally finished posting screenshots btw. ~.~ I couldn't figure out how to make a floor that didn't overlap in my house's gazebo area. There isn't metal flooring or smaller stone floors in the future is there?
o.o; I killed chat again... for the third time today... 😿 😳 🙀
chat is now resurrected
XD just joking, since it seems everyone goes silent when I say something today.
Or it's just 12:39am
7:40pm here
could be 6:39pm 🤔
6:40pm here
why did it have to turn 40 as i say that though 😢
I'm gonna hop back on Valheim. Laggy with Discord tonight. Hope everyone is safe irl right now. Remember to drink lots of liquid, eat, and rest 😼 ☕ 🍜 😴 stay as healthy as possible plz ❤️
@vocal rivet plz get some rest soon D: that's late in your time zone.
Late? Not hugely. But goodnight!

why is it whenever im just chilling sea serpents are everywhere, but when im actually looking for them i cant find any
have seen 3 serpents in 250 days of this world
Sail at night during storms. Much higher spawn rate
if i dont load an area it is able to change in future updates right?
if two people have trollstav, would that mean there would be 4 trolls?
LOL, I didn't make my port big enough for a Drakkar.
quite common issue from what i have heard XD
damn, that is a HUGE freaking boat.
indeed it is 😄
anyone tryna teach me how to get better n play while i wait for someone to reply to my post?
kill more, die less 😄
Use the terrain to your advantage whenever possible. This is especially true in the biomes after the black forest where high ground can be crucial.
i appreciate the help
okay, it turns out the tar pit growths absolutely decimate my lox+wolf army. whoops. i should not have gotten close to that
yep, their projectiles are doing tons of dmg + additionally tons of poison dmg
i think i would have handled a fuling village fine though.
riding a lox is really not worth it. it would have been better to just lead a large group of wolves on foot
I have a question about accessibility, and am not quite sure how to phrase it. My older son's dad (ex) would like to play Valheim with me and our adult son, however he has limited use of his hands as he is in the later stages of ALS. He would like to focus on the building aspect while the kid and I focus on gathering materials for him and doing all the fighting (however we might play with enemy aggro turned off or at least on very easy difficulty). He can no longer hold a controller or use a keyboard but can use a mouse. He's able to play games like Baldur's Gate that are turn-based and click-to-walk.
Has anyone had any experience playing the game with limited mobility? Are there any mods or anything else that might help him out in this regard?
Thanks in advance for any advice you might have. Worst case scenario, we can play the game for him while we're visiting him so he can watch and direct us, as we've done with some other games.
Hiya, unfortunately the base game does not have any accommodation options for this particular case. If your mouse has any hardware buttons that can be rebound using third party software to movement controls I would suggest doing that, otherwise, #mods-discussion might have a better idea of what mods would be most useful to you. Best of luck!
I'll check there, thank you so much!
"Murphy's Law of Ironic Search"
I don't know a perfect fit in mods, unfortunately, so I'll answer here. If he has thumb mobility, someone can put build items and hammer in his numbered inventory slots and some numbers beyond 8 could be assigned to some of the game controls (like Use, or Equip/unequip), then use a mouse like this: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/gaming-mouse/ch-9304211-na/scimitar-rgb-elite-optical-moba-mmo-gaming-mouse-ch-9304211-na?srsltid=AfmBOop8cLKx1C7no8aZMJDAh_0ufJcOCcgoj7auRHTUdCgWYYHZ-kGz
Found my first infested mine... Went in without clearing the outside, was fighting on the inside, got knocked out the mine and died 😂
No spare wisplight, no portal up, this is the valheim way
Great, really appreciate your input, thank you!
oof
good luck lmao
I summoned my son, and he came to rescue me 😛
son raiser - the new and improved dead raiser
Yeah, they come grumpy tho, cos apparently im interrupting him getting 100 fishing 😄
Morgen gjall.
Regarding Hens, do they follow the same principe as boars in regards to only being able to have 5 fully grown in x area?
And do they only eat seeds? Cos they are annoying to get.
There can be more hens in the same space as 5 boars but yes, no more egg laying when max is reached.
You can pick up cold eggs, throw them all down 1 by 1 hten make them warm and that way you can have more hens than max though.
They'll also eat dandelions.
Though if you plant carrots / turnips / onions and keep 1/3 th (maybe slightly more for bad bad spacing or other mishaps that makes plant die) to replant and use the seeds to feed chickens you should not run out of seeds.
so many portalhub designs wanted 🤔
can meteors from trollstav damage fortress gates?
Anything that can receive pickaxe damage can be damaged by meteors
sure
so there's no way to cheese them without building a catapult or a battering ram?
Cheese them how?
break the gates without a siege tool
Haven't broken one yet, I just climb over the walls.
you have to break another gate inside to get the loot
Oh broken those with trolls, summon one and just stand in front of the door/wall and block.
Or you can dig under.
Meteor is the only way I can think.
Either way, if you have trollstav you should have battering ram, at that point just ram them normally. Or destroy a wall section instead of the gate
And the inner tower can be digged under
ah
Generally, whenever I find something problematic, my first thought is always "can I terraform this problem away?" It works on almost anything that isn't inside a dungeon.
can't dig under, there's a brickwall underneath the gates
but we looted the fragments and flametal through the slit between the brickwall and a gate lmao
You can dig under the inner gate
same thing here
Anyone looking for a fresh start server? Looking to get into it now
#1024264966712340510 is the place for that, either browse at your leisure or post something yourself.
my bad. thanks
No worries, just pointing you to the place where you'll hopefully find what you are looking for.
