Never thought I’d say I agree with Sevrahn but you’re a bit of a brick wall lol
Would be cool if more set bonuses existed too. Feels bad that the Ask set has one when I’m a heavy armor kinda guy and I get a set bonus that’s nowhere near as good
The issue I have with stamina is the stupid wait standing still when doing pickaxing
I dont know why yall thinking combat
Combat could be harder even if they increase stamina regen
It isn't real. Like IRL if you sprint to a location, you immediately are ready to fight multiple people on arrival. You would never have to catch your breath or anything like that. 😉
Heavy sets could increase skill levels to some melee weapons and not much else
The issue s I have with stamina is not having no stamina issues. THIS is very very FAR from what I meant lol
Iron set increasing polearms skill for example
- Rested buff
- Stamina regen potions
- Don’t run and jump when you don’t need to
That's not true
Boom no stamina problems ever again
Valheim has a bunch of things that lead you to wait, and I don't think that's a bad thing, leads me to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere the game creates
Chuck Norris does it all the time
Tasty Mead
This is subjective and of course if you're not receptive to that then waiting for stamina while mining can be irritating
“Just don’t get hit” kind of item lol
Chuck Norris doesn't sprint to locations, he rotates the Earth underneath him so the location moves.
Either way, he isn't using stamina
Chuck Norris is stamina.
Right
Yeah stamina would be better if it was increease cost with stuff like this, is what I meant by better stamina system
I dont know what foolish person here thoguth that the stamina system being crap means "too hard"
Leeks, I'm with you. I want lower spawn rate. I wish they could do it via a slider
I think the majority of people here are fed up with people complaining the game is "hard" when it really isnt
And ignorantly assume people complaining about the game is because its hard
I've been pretty low on greydwarf eyes lately and I go to farm wood on a dark and stormy night, when a horde of greydwarves comes out to attack me, something straight out of a horror movie. I turn on some heavy metal music, cut down the tree people, and walk home with pockets full of blue eyes (:
Don't think Ashlands sucks, but tuning seems appropriate to me
That's why they're tuning it.
I wish Ashlands didn't ship with the little annoying things, like sliding off flametal nodes, micro lava pockets that instakill you, and massive knockback from lava plumes
Fair.
As I continue saying, there should be more ways of managing certain things, not just making number changes and call it a day.
Elder buffing stamina regen in contrast to queen's power is not a bad idea
The stamina system is shit not because its hard to play with, its simply shit.
The way it works outside of combat.
The way the items cost and for what they do ( like hire biome weapons)
Stamina % has no impact on usage.
They could reduce stamina regeneration imo while reducing stamina cost of items.
IMO they could fully stop stamina regen when in combat. but hat would be too ahrd for others
Devs mess up all the time, BTW. Look at Diablo 4 as a prime example
yeah this is the issue I have with stamina. no matter what you do is the same way.
HIT then walk around waiting until you can stamina again
I do not want to see what Ashlands look like with no stamina regen in combat
its boring combat, not challenging
especially knowing most enemy can simply be avoided by walking
I think it could be goud for retreat etc.
Especially for big teams where they can take turns in combat
Would be so much mroe realistic
Big teams ? what
Hi guys, new to the game and need help with getting started. anyone starting of fresh?
Sta annoys me all the time, but it's one I don't want to see changed
Bosses with no stamina regen in combat would flat out be impossible
It's there for risk management
Mfw when I can play valheim on my iPad via GFN
Consider a moment that:
- The game is early access.
- Ashlands just released and has had two unreleased PTB patches to tweak it, neither of which has gone live
- The developers, contrary to the beliefs of some, are the people making the game and generally it should probably be assumed that released content is approaching their vision but is obviously still subject to tweaking based on player feedback
The arrogant comments of "the devs intended this to be hard and nerfed X because of whining" are truly quite breathtaking. No, they changed it because their vision is something other than yours.
Thank you 🙂
If anything, devs have to release content at higher difficulty
If it turns out too strong, they can nerf it
But releasing content that is tuned to be too easy, and then having to make it harder, kinda sucks
Thank you
They are trying to make the best with what they have.
Assuming their FIRST release is the best is usually a wrong take.
I think allowing them to change stuff and ultimatly come back to what there was if it isnt good, is the best approach
That's basically true for any software
people need to start assuming that ashland is fuking easy too.
And stop taking every complain as if the game was hard
yes, beside tesla 😄
na, but you will want lox underwear....
to be fair, they're constantly pushing software updates, and have even recalled literally all cybertrucks due to the windshield wipers and accelerator pedals not working correctly
My main base is a bit laggy. Guessing because i did lots of terraforming i shouldn't've. About halfway cleared ashlands fortresses. and have a boss location but suspect ill need more gems than my world will provide. So i thinking i will at some point load all my best gear into inventory and start a new world with it. spawning a few essentials and going thru bosses to get to ashlands. any reasons i should not do this?
it's still disappointing when a company releases something subpar -- the ashlands release obviously has a lot of controversy around it and definitely could be improved, but it's not just about "this is too easy/this is too hard" balancing something to make it fun and enjoyable isn't that simple
Windows OS 😉
Yeah I suppose they do.
The pedal is not a software issue tho.
That is straight up incompetence on the engineering lvl
yeah but what is "on par" for windows? the arguably "good" ones have been xp, 7 and 10 -- and even then they're not great and my bar for expectations is pretty low
Windows ME for the win. 😛
Thank you for Highlighting a point MANY are missing.
When I talk about more fun, they think its making things easier when that is completelly wrong.
More fun is not equal to easier or vice versa.
More fun means better systemm to allow the fun, while keeping all the challenges.
Farming 10 000 wood is NOT a challenge 😄
but when homer simpson has free reign to design his car... they're working with what they've got, lol
True, that was an epic car tho.
I still dream of a car where I can separate my wife
Do forts ever spawn on the smaller ashland islands or are they only on the main island(s)
they're procedurally placed, so you're statistically more likely to find them on larger landmasses
I think the main island generates everything the smaller islands can
So that would be a yes they can be on the smaller islands
I'm trying to find the last fort, but not having any luck
I think I probably got them all but forgot to mark one on the map
What do we load in the catapult? stone ?
anyone else ever noticed how the Abominations from swamps look like Gonarchs from Half Life ?
I think you can load anything, but for damage, the payloads
Grausten does not woprk
try Grausten payload
Explosive payloads, grausten payloads, regular stone and be careful because you can even catapult your weapons. Never found that set of lightning berzerkir axes I launched
You need to craft the ammunition
Oh I see, something I will not use then 😄
I have fun using a piece of stone to launch myself from the top of mountains. I have attempted to collect flametal using the explosive payloads and you can also use them to break into fortresses
house remorse is real, always feel bad when i find a new area that looks amazing lol
i wanna teleport my house over there
The black tower in plains you mean by fortrness ? or the citadelle thingy in ahsland ?
The big thing in ashland with the green beam, I just rush into it and open the chest then run out again.
All you need is a few blocks to climb the side.
There is nothing valuable inside bneside 1 chest and 3 skeletons summoned with 1 shield is enough to spring loot and run
So far got all my Flamemetal like this, as flamemetal pillars sink after I just mine twice
The ashland fortresses have more loot behind the door inside
what about the inner tower? and the bell fragments? the gems are also incredibly valueable
No I checked, it was empty on 2 accounts
I got into the inner tower from jumping inside from the top 😄
the top was always closed for me
but then I got stuck so I just decide to debugmode out of it.
as it should not have let me in I think in the first place
There should have been a destructable chest with bell fragments and a regular chest with other loot
Yeah i figured.
maybe the spike make it look close but my bubble shield help up and i fell inside
the inside often had more loot for me than the outside
Ther was 1 chest right outside the inner tower,
inside I only found 2 orange balls
there should also be bell fragments
Well getting inside the second one and will go into the inner
I have not discovered that I think. just got the wheel thing now
Just hop the wall, set up a stone portal bring over battering ram mats and break it down. pretty easy once the fortress is taken
I just build stairs, hop up and drop some vines and fireballs, then hop in and make a stone portal and the ram to get into the inside tower
Yeah its pretty easy to take it down.
The staff of ember really makes it a cakewalk
Staff of Ember + Protection + of the Wild = win
Warlocks should REALLY be stronger. they die in 3-4 ember hits
I dont know what of the Wild is :D.
I have the frirst 2
Staff of the Wild is real good
Ill stick to my bonemass and lightning berzerkir axes. After clearing all 20 fortresses in my personal server, I set up a new server to do a fortress gauntlet. Cleared 10 fortresses in a single night. Still need to finish the other 10 sometime
Lighting zerkir axes goated for heavy armour users
I have 0 gear so far from ashland,. I am having a super super easy time with the regulare staffs.
I will see later if I need improved.
I dont find the bonemass that useful with the bubble armor.
I am considering doing the axe once i have the flametal gear to test it out
Or asksvin gear better with berserker ?>
might be easy now, first when it came out on PTB it was a lot more challenging on Normal mode, you got swarmed without doing anything, a tree falling over would aggro about 12+ monsters
a tree that got hit by a fire spark thing that you didnt even touch at all and were not that close to
Im a light armor user. I like the stam reduction from the ask armor more than the defense from the flametal armor. I have sets of all 3 new armors and like the ask set best
To be fair I love all three of them, great to have 3 and they all have their place, I think the devs did great work on them. The Ask was a little meh before the bonus was added though (imho)
I am still having all that lol 😄
The flametal set with ask cape is my body run set while the ask set with ash cape is my every day gear
The environmental noise from the biome does not attract monsters anymore (only the one you are responsible for when you cut down a tree or hit a mob)
Mage set is for when I go rabbit hunting or just get an occasional urge to play mage.
I swear I am walking aroun and they all walk toward me with the suspision icon.
I think they still hear noise
yeah I don't really like playing mage without the mage set
I am a mage set all the way now, hjave my skills at 60
yes, the noise you make, but not the other noises from crackling flames 100m away from you (that used to be the case)
Ah that makes sense. But that was probably a dum issue that was not meant to happen tho. I dont think that would have been intendd
you're probably right as they patched that out pretty quick during the PTB
they are still doing lots of tweaking on PTB right now
Yes, clearly the ashlands need a lot of tweaking, this is poor gameplay so far.
I don't think its poor gameplay but it could use improvements, for me one of the most perfect biomes is the swamp
Best to not start. They will bury you under how it is "objectively" terrible without hearing a word to the contrary.
forcing to run and wait all the time is poorgameplay imo.
its exactly like the rest, just more annoying not harder.
Given my protection staff gives me armor of 500 damage making it really eeasy to run throuygh enemies
No, I think people can be iopen minded 🙂
quite possibly haha, I love the parts of Ashlands that are great, I can sort of see both perspectives, but some people will be stuck in their ways I agree
you don't need to wait, things can be killed so fast now as a mage
I dont have that
need to find green gem in fortress
Yeah working on it, but the spawn around it and had 3 raids of the army march while doing a fortress since i started to talk here earlier
my raid level is maxed.
it spawns summoming stones all the time so the forthress has like over 30 enemiues now
I often build island bases so no raid can spawn xD
Then some 4 asksvin just spawned around. Not sure if they are part of the army
with a morgen
morgen and asksvin not part of the raid, they just want to say hello independently
like 4 of them spawned at the same time after I cleared the whole area
2 star asksvin are great friends for near your base
why ?
tamed ones
Morgen and Valkyrie and Asksvin all do damage to some other monsters afaik, there is a lot of friendly fire going on (not direct attacking, but they take some damage from the others attacks if it hits them accidentally) this helps a lot with fighting as a viking
also the lava blobs
Is this cross-platform with pc and ps4?
Considering there is no PS4 port... No
so is there a philosophy to where you build your main home, i was thinking plains that has mountains nearby with mistlands not too far by boat
Just be prepared to repel deathsquito visitors
you will need at least 2 farms (plains and mistlands unless you get lucky with those 2 bordering each other). I would recommend your main be one of those 2 locations unless you are early game. the farm issue is due to plains and mistland crops aparently not growing outside their biome, but everything else does.
What do you want out of your "home"?
well i figure you kinda grow out of the biomes pre mountain so id be looking to have easier access to mountains, plains, mist etc
i just built a mediumish size base in the meadows but i gotta spend quite a long time boating out of the area just to start going places
typically by time I hit mountains, my meddows base becomes a hub for dropping off heads at the alter and I build elsewhere. I actually just finished building my plains farm/base near a mountain and open ocean (somehow within a blackforest).
If all you want is to build cool shit, that isn't biome-specific. You can build all of it in any biome.
As Nev said, you will need farms in Mistlands and Plains.
So if you want farming incorporated into you main build, Plains is the target location.
But if you're fine with just "farming outposts," then any biome is fine.
Meadows is generally the safest but no where is safe from raids, anyway... I like meadows, dark forest or mountains. Swamp is depressing and plains sounds like a nightmare to live in to me lmao.
That's what I do, walled off flax farms.
Plains all day.
I hate Meadows.
Too safe and mild for your viking adventure?
im partial to plains, super chill and nice looking, fairly flat in most areas, i am on hard so random ass squitos could be annoying
Plains is safe AF 🤷♂️
Nothing bothers you once you've cleared and prepped the area.
I love meadows, perfect place for a norse village, but the homely recorder music does start to drive me insane after a while
I dunno I still see random lox and skeeters spawning, and while lox are driven away by sound if by some grim chance I piss off a herd and they start smashing my walls... I don't tend to build big stone walls so
the game's music is good, but I always end up turning a game's music off after a time due to the repetitive nature of it
There's an option to turn off the music loop so that it only plays now and then!
My plains island is pretty awesome, though I built it pre-Mistlands. Now I'd try to find a Mistlands island small enough to spawn-proof but big enough to allow for cultivation
Building into a dwarven ruin in the Mistlands is something I've wanted to do for a while
you don't need much space at all for mistland farms
the only thing you can grow there is mushrooms anyway
No but you need ground that can be cultivated and not all mistlands terrain allows it
Building on an island section of biome is smart though
Similarly if you want a mountains build, there's a certain elevation where drakes don't seem to spawn, only wolves. Wolves are more dangerous obviously but drakes are far more annoying.
The good thing about plains islands is the water is shallow. So literally find a spot that has a small area above water and just make an island
my next runthrough will have the main base on the border of plains/mistlands -- I never really understood island/sea bases when you can just put up a moat/wall
style
you think my walls ain't stylish?
the thing is I like practicality too -- those walkways are a bit too much for me -- sure they look nice, but it's just too much walking
do farms only grow if you are nearby or is it by in game time? like would i need to be within a certain range if i have a mistlands/plains border with farms in each
Game logs what time it was when you left their range and updates when you return. After a few seconds, it catches up and rapidly grows them.
I played Valheim 2 years ago and just coming back to play Mistlands and Ashlands. So far, just hitting the black forrest and I have to say, absolutely 0 has changed from what I can tell in either the meadows or black forrest. Is that right?
ah thats nice
Yes. Early game has not been changed.
and i guess i stand corrected about the plains, i remember it being pretty flat. everything ive been checking out now is basically a slope
okay thanks for confirming. So does it literally not change at all til Mistlands?
thought at least there may be new build pieces or new animals or something but its identical
its np, excited to see the new content but questioning if I should have started over
got my first bonemaw
Unless you really want to experience it again from the start there is no need to start over. No major changes to pre-Mistlands experience
Are there seeds with Polaris outside of DN, or has that been found to be impossible?
Last I heard it was only in DN
ashland waters remind me of the arab fleet fleeing from Constantinopol, that sailed on top of an underwater volcanoe and the sea water baoiled, melting the pitch from underneath and sank....
I forget, do mobs scale in any way with having more players nearby, connected to the same game, or at all?
Yes 30% health and more damage for each player up to 5
Things that I usually block solo I cannot block with 4 players nearby
Because the enemies hit so much harder once scaled. and its for every player in like 100 m I think?
Ah, okay. So more than 5 it's just beneficial.
More than 5 you are getting more players and the enemies are not getting stronger yes
But if I go venturing off on my own even in a multiplayer game, enemies should be scaled to 1, yes?
So long as there are no other players in 100 m they will be scaled for solo
Cool beans. Thanks.
Ah, heres the wiki, "Creature damage is further increased by 4% and effective health is further increased by 30% for each additional player within 100 meters. These are also applied to tamed creatures. This scaling caps at 5 players."
World modifiers, mini bosses, a new trader
mini bosses in where? the meadows?
One in BF, Mountains and Plains
ok just hitting BF so maybe ill see something
Ah, so it includes skeleton pets?
It's inside a dungeon and there are only three of each mini boss dungeon per world.
You won't find it easily without finding the trader first
You have to find Hildr first.
getting flametel is so annoying
i gotta kill a tone askvin then find a vine and then use my very limited time to get it
im having so much fun
until i go to the ashlands where fun is banned
i found Hildir but haven't seen anything related to side quests from her, besides me buying the iron fire pit
i can barely make a roof and make space for a bed 😭
why's that
Clothing she sells reduces stamina cost for Hammer, Cultivator, Hoe.
i just started the game
assuming ur still in the Meadows biome, explore a bit, you'll find some empty houses you can occupy, usually they have enough space for a workbench and a bed
maybe even a fireplace and chimney if ur willing to renovate it
Touch the table next to her.
That is how you get the quest locations. Be aware they involve mini bosses. So are a tougher fight.
oh aight
i hate the ashlands so much
what's wrong
not enough damage to kill all the charred.
Cant find flamentel
Cant find fortress
do trees on the map disappear
Head inward to find flametal and the fortresses
and the current ptb nerfed the amount of charred enemies in the ashlands
they better drop that fuckin nerf soon
ts is so unfun
you can always just join the ptb at any moment 🙂
Cant kill all the charred> alright thats fine il just rush a new staff> All 3 of the ashlands staffs are locked behind gems> alright thats.... fine il just get a gem>Need fortress>Need battering ram>Need Flametel>Need basalt bomb
Battering ram isn't necessary to clear fortresses
isnt it needed for the loot room where gems spawn?
and also the gate?
Gems can spawn outside of the tower room, alongside flametal.
You can simply use latters or any other building block to build up and around the fortress
are they atleast common spawns?
The gems?
you need a ruby for troll staff and a jade for wild. Correct?
Ye
and are they atleast somewhat common outside of the loot room?
Ye they're somewhat common, keep in mind it's you're also very likely to get flametal from the chests on the outside of the fortress, which you can use to build the ram which allows you to get a guaranteed chest on the inside.
yeah but then i need to go deeper into the ashlands when yet again is annoying
? how do you mean
i can hardly get past the shore without getting rushed by 2 blobs 7 charred and a few vultures
Well I dunno what to say for that lol
You can always join the ptb, lower you combat modifier
Also, the more you practice and the more comfortable you get in the ashlands, it gets easier. It becomes much more manageable, just keep trying and keep progressing and you'll soon be waltzing through the Ashlands. Remember when the swamp was really difficult? Or when trolls were the scariest thing?
the swamp was never THAT bad for me
im playing duo with combat at normal and it wasnt that bad
Honestly dude, if your main complaint is the amount of charred in the ashlands sign up for the ptb and you'll be reallly happy
It's really easy to join and this patch is super stable
bleh
im my eyes theres just a fine line between
AMOUNT of things and how STRONG they are
fighting alot of weak things? fun
Fighting a few strong things? Fun
Fighting a decent amount of decently strong things? NOT FUN
might just be a mage issue
don't need battering ram or flametal to beat a fortress
What's your mage build btw
i beat it as a mage and the power of jumping
all 4 mistlands staffs at level 3 and all 3 etir weave armor at level 1
what's the food situation like
meat platter/honey glazed chicken
Stuff mushroom
Seeker aspic
Aight so i'd drop the hp food and run a stam food, staff of protection is your "hp food" on mage
What's your blood magic/elemental magic at? I'd also recommend you run himmin afl or mistwalker too
p sure they are both roughly 20ish
and you said you had a partner?
yeah my brother hes running 333 carapace and LV3 krom
Mistwalker is pretty good in the ashlands, would be a good tool for him. My advice for you would to always maintain your bubble uptime on you and your brother, staff of frost hits HARD and if you wanna play really safe you can always summon skeletons
blehhh combative skellys are always so hard to get down unless i use em beforehand
I agree, but if you wanna be safe/progress you gotta be ready for the preparation
dose not help etir kinda sucks
got some vineberry's and seeds so might make a decent amount of etir mead
not sure how to plant the seeds tho
Close, but not too close, to a wall, any biome, cultivated soil, no overhang.
Need to go get Mistland staff
mistlands staff are more than enough to get you fortresses
Morgen gjall.
I just jump over the wall and kill them from within
Makes it harder to get random enemies
First time I saw morgen it terrified me
What do you think about this monstrosity?
@rain flare Has nightmares about it.
I like them. It's a good balance of being hard but also rare
One of the few ashlands enemies I felt was well balanced
wdym rare my place has morgan like every 5 min
what the best way to kill dvergers? 2 are stuck in the basement and i tried oozebombing but its a frost and healing mage so they never die 😭 bows dont work too cuz they just heal aswell and i lost most of my stuff in there
Does anyone have an inkling of an idea, if not already when the Xbox and steam will be in sync again ?
I’ve not been able to join my friends since they are not on the same release 😅
I lob them a pufferfish and push them on it, that way you won't anger them and won't get in this situation.
Now that you are in this situation you might want to try and separate them.
Lure some seekers, soldiers or gjalls there.
Build a bunch of ballistae near them.
Maybe if you change the world settings to monsters are passive they might revert to their non aggro state, don't know though.
Abuse the console or debugmode.
😭 do u have any ideas on how i can get out of it
Read above or you could toss in a load of pufferfish and / or refined eitr and that might eventually overwhelm them.
the tjing is that i havent been able to get the component yet so most of these options are not available to me, but where do i catch pufferfish and how foes it kill them
and i dont want to “cheat” or use something outside of the survival state of the game cuz i get bored for sm rsn
look in the ocean biome for pufferfish
you'll need a lox trophy for the bait
so if i throw a bunch in there does it emit like a permanent gas?
or how would it damage them
throw what?
the pufferfish
It damages them when they walk against it.
They get poisoned.
It is quite low damage but with enough of them it might do the trick, wouldn't count on it though.
You could also call in the body retrieval squad which can be found in #1024264966712340510 .
Do carts change the way that they roll depending on how much mass is inside of them
Yes.
Ahh so that’s why I almost died trying to get a cart full of silver down from the mountains
Yes, best thing to do is yeet that cart of the mountain and follow it down in a more sedate pace.
the first time i got silver down a mountain with a a cart full of it, i dug a hole straight through any rocks on the way down the mountain lol
Unsure where to put this but question regarding the "CreatureLevelAndLootControl" mod. How many drops do 3+ Star stuff drop?
how big is the change in combat difficulty if u go from normal to hard?
No change. Just takes longer to kill things because more HP.
enemies do 150% dmg, you do 85% dmg, enemies are 10% faster and starred enemies are bit more common
Seems a bit to excessive the jump up
The fandom wiki (No matter how slop the website is) does have some numbers.
125% damage and 5% speed would seem alright
I beg your pardon?
The wiki is great. Fandom (The website) itself is meh
Ah, fair enough. Can't argue with that.
But then again I'm bias towards official wiki's
It IS official.
I am aware. I'm meaning in the case of games like Terraria that have there own wiki. But its understandble for this lovely game
You have the same issues as me with Fandom, @sick cedar - pages stop responding?
So do we, I'm confused by your comments.
Honestly I am mildly confused also. Yall want to hear about Daren the Draugr? The mythical figure me and my mates happened to come across
I'd trade the speed thing for "they actually attack and spend less time randomly wandering around" in a heartbeat.
I think they mean an independent wiki hosted on a server owned by the game devs/publisher, that doesn’t rely on a third party wiki site with ads and everything that goes with that.
Am I right, @sick cedar?
Yep what he said!
It's pretty independent, but I appreciate the hosting comment. It has no bearing on its officialness though.
I agree with this. Fuelings are annoying BECAUSE they just run around sometimes. To the point where I've seen other enemies get close to half
The infornation is independent, the hosting isn’t.
Ahahahahahhahaaaaaaaa 😅
Sildarflame has passed out
Morgens are cute and cuddley. Idk why you are on about.
and lets not start about Morgen-gjall right? 😉
Won't they despawn/reset if you walk away?
lol I paused the game last night and crashed... only when I returned this morning... it wasn't paused... and I was naked in my other base... I'm pretty sure at this point trolls destroyed my forest base but it turns out it was just the swamp raid and all they did was break the door and kill me. So it could have been much worse lol
Regarding pufferfish and using them as a damage source, I think they can still poison if placed on an item stand so you could plop down a campfire or workbench and some puffers on stands for organized poisoning of your target(s).
interestingly enough, they arent destroying any of my stuff in my base... I thought they were programmed to destroy things like craftbenches when they see them?
they only have specific items they are aggroed to destroy
portals and boats keep mobs active even after your death
So instead of the "Boats n Hoes" song... 😏
Do troll summons drop anything on death? Guessing no
if only we had a troll carpet like the barber bench has...
Yea no drops from summoned trolls
Does anybody know where Moder Vagvesir spawns inside frost caves?
It can be in various configurations, just explore the whole cave
fair, im playing very hard perma death, but going into the caves spooks me
(not flexing, just hoping it might bait out more advice)
You don't need to do caves for the vegvisir.
They can also be found in stone structures on the mountain.
The mountain that ive explored and have forts and structures in unfortunately only had one stone structure and no vegvisir, it does however have some frost caves and im weighing the risk/effort of exploring an entirely new mountain vs a frost cave or two
I think Moder is the boss I find most often without the Vegvisir
Surprisingly, perma death modes become easier as you never lose skills
Thats true but very hard difficulty gets harder with time
Yea the difficulty rating might be something else
If you were able to obtain barley already, you can try making fire resistance wines to help with cultists
I have maxed silver armor and frostner and im still terrified of wolves
I was thinking about this, ive got some 2* wolves that i imagine will make plains easy (assuming i dont die to deathquito)
The root set's torso is very useful to protect against deathsquitoes thanks to the pierce damage resistance provided
You might wanna consider swapping out one piece of your silver armor for it
Well-timed frostner hits should keep wolves at bay, I'd be surprised if they even land a blow
I think you're right honestly, i just dont know a good way to test that theory. I've been considering making a clone of my char+world and just seeing what happens but that feels like it goes against the spirit of permadeath
You probably could
I've seen people build crazy things in this game, like stacking a million item stands and then boom you have some inszane sculpture
Making a big ass base solely out of ovens has also been done.
Guys, I have a question, will we be able to get gems in the deep north too? I'm scared of farming all the fortresses and not getting enough gems to make all the ashlands weapons
using trolls to mine ore is much more efficient than i realized
Probably not for a good while, the gap between Mist and Ashlands was like a year and a half
i was wondering why chat was full of troubleshoots and such. turns out i was hovering over #steam-bugs-discussion for a day and didn't realize 💀
i gotta appreciate bonemass existing. i have never felt so good doing so much damage to an enemy before until frostner 😆
Also I got two of each from my first Fort I can’t see that happening
i think this is rng, not two of each all time
One thing I’m not sure of yet, can you modify all the weapons or just the berserker axes? Like can I turn Slayer into a Thundering slayer when I make one?
If yes I can see why you’re concerned but I still think there will be plenty
Yes, the wiki has this info:
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Slayer
Nice, thank you
do volture eggs respawn?
How could we know if DN development hasn't even started? And for the biome release there's still years left
It was supposed to be more like your personal opinion hahaa
If you're asking for personal thought I'd say... No?
I like to think that DN will have its own gems only compatible with its own gear
So ashlands gear is still relevant even with DN gear
Considering the old biome changed into the same lay-out as the Ashlands has, development has started.
Which brings up the question; are the devs working at more aspects of that biome, or are they having a vacation right now.
But then, with the latest PTB-patch still not being official, at least a part of the team is still working at Ashlands.
Probably a mixture of the two.
So, I think, are there enough gems to make all the lv max equipment? After all, all the black forge upgrades haven't been released yet
Potentially no.
Unless you spawn them in with Dev-commands
since fortresses are limited and ashlands is a relatively small biome
cheat bro hahaha
I always interpreted that as an "accidental" result of the world gen changes for ashlands.
That they take advantage of it and work the biome around those changes is different. I wouldn't be surprised if DN is also separated from the other biomes completely.
And some devs are on vacation while others aren't, which is why work is slow on this PTB and I don't think they have started actually working on the biome other than discussions and plannification
what settings do you guys rock for best looking but best performance
got a base close to 10k instances now and well yeah
with the new portal i have started dividing my base up in kitchen, forge, storage and main base with only a few portals i rename
that way i have been able to keep the lag at bay that used to be a huge problem for me
it doesnt matter what settings you have on tbh, you could play in 480p but if your instances get too high you will lag like crazy, build on a small island (ocean = a lot less instances).
I've played through ashlands twice now and both times we had no trouble gearing up 3-4 people each time. I suppose you could get really bad rng but i'd find it hard to believe you can't fully gear 1 person....
thx
early game it's definitely easier to just let trolls hit the ores for you
spent 5 hours sailing around last night looking for swamps with crypts. Found a bunch of swamps but only 1 crypt and it was the smallest crypt in the world with 12 iron scraps in it. Honestly on the verge of quitting this game, they made iron too rare
or at least restarting with a seed that is guaranteed to not deprive you of resources like this. I love the game but sailing in search of swamps is not fun anymore. Is it possible to skip the iron age since I can't find any?
why do the ashlands dvergr always go to lava?
Very hard to skip the Iron Age, plains tier armour and a few Mistlands tier items also require iron (hope that’s not too much of a spoiler) so you kind of need a lot throughout the game. I can’t relate to iron being rare at all though so you must have gotten an exceptionally unlucky seed lol the swamp that had my bonemass altar had legit 10+ crypts in my most recent playthrough
iron is a must
the first bone mass island I found only had 1 crypt in it, but last night I got a location for another bonemass swamp far to the north, so I guess tonight I'll go check that out with fingers crossed before abandoning the seed
@whole iris the more far away you travel from center of your world the more different biomes there are to spawn
oh interesting! so far I've been ranging out from my first base equally in each direction, I guess I ought to plunge far in a direction to get away from all these meadows/black forest-only islands. thanks for the tip
Yeah thats what you shouldnt be doing 😄 gl on your journeys
Not sure if you want an update, but i found a vegvisir in a frost cave and just found the altar
Or just keep exploring mountains. You'll find Moder as you search for silver or drake trophies.
black metal knife and I can 1hit stun then combo lox' to death
does all dried up on a root mean it never gives you sap anymore?
No, it regenerates over time.
ty
GG
The game run better using vulkan?
Depends on your system.
Never used a knife. Do you need backstab in order to stun, or how do you manage it?
you need a decent skill level with knives, otherwise you lack the dps to keep it stun locked
if your skill is high enough with knives then both a parry and a backstab will do the trick
are wards breakable with arrows
how much flametal are you guys getting per node
43 to 48, sometimes on good ones i get 53
i wouldn't call it something wrong, i think i have seen like 4 different ways so far that people get their flame metal
my avarge was the same as yours before i found my own way to do it 🙂
i go to the top and start mining my way down (provided i dont fall when i break one of the nodes)
i either clear the nearby area and then build a platform out of grausten around the node and mine from bottom and upwards or i dig a hole and drag all nearby enemies into it before building the platform
you can stack alot of platforms on top of eachother if you just make sure they are on top of eachother and then offset as much as possible from the middle
usually you can build the entire way around the node
i play this game since moder was the last boss and i never have any problem with iron, crypt.....
Thank you! Even having a couple people take my struggle seriously somehow makes it less burdensome. Back on the grind tonight for some more extensive sailing adventures. I think it’s the unfavorable winds that make me bitter lol
Just my unlucky seed maybe
https://valheim-map.world/ try this
i have a few games where i found alot of small or empty swamps before finding crypts, but eventually i usually found a bigger swamp with plenty of crypts
all dungeons have a set numbers on the map regardless of seed, so the less you find the more concentrated they are somewhere else
soooo Ashlands came out 6 weeks ago, some crucial bugfixes 2 weeks afterwards on beta branch, another batch 2 weeks ago... when do we get the beta as update tho?
here I am, getting a cart full of iron in a single swamp
August, maybe.
Vacation time in Sweden right now.
plenty of swamps in our current seed have 0-1 crypt while they are of a comparable size to swamps that had 5 crypts
First swamp I found was a single tree on a miniscule island. Had scouted it from a boat & thought it reached further. You'll find more swamps. Need to locate the boss & more crypts will be found on the way.
I know exactly how you feel. Well, for me it's not Iron I'm after, but spent some time yesterday sailing, and then nearly dying, and completely failed to find what I'd set out for.
Where are you getting August? It's not even July yet.
From 4-6 weeks of vacation starting at midsummer & some arbitrary time to get things rolling afterwards.
Anybody seen something where the flametal pillars will pop back up again but the same amount mined already?
Even Smiffe is only having 5 weeks and that's because he carried one over from last week.
Not seen it myself, but it's mentioned as a known issue on the bug reports page.
Oh ok interesting. Also askvin or whatever suck.
why is the trollstav kinda easy
Is this crossplay between Xbox and other platforms?
Does anyone run mixed class builds that don't rely on any health food?
mage and archer dont really depend on health
is there a mod to get into a party with other players and being able to see their health too?
maybe ask in #mods-discussion
All players depend on health. I'm asking more about how those builds mitigate low health risks
Mage uses staff of protection as their hp and archers use stamina as their hp essentially
does anyone know if bosses always spawn in big biomes (relative to what boss it is)
What?
like
if the queen is in biome that im in, does it guarantee its going to be a big biome in size
or can it spawn in smaller ones too
All bosses can spawn on their according biome regardless of size.
The only factor is that's it's the respective biome. If it's a small biome, it's purely RNG from world gen
Right, so does anyone have a load out (hot bar, food and armor) and strategy that they find enjoyable meeting my initial criteria they would be willing to share? I'm experimenting with non health meta and looking for inspiration. For context, I run a 2/3 stamina heavy build for crowd control most of the time. Been experimenting adding magic into it
i found a hack to automine 😏
and it aint even a cheat
just an alt tab while u pressing attack button down
I've got a better hack: ||summon a fire troll 😏||
tho stairs seem to be hella hard to destroy
👀
i rly wanted this bunker to be nice af but those stairs 😭 😭
i wish making underground bases was more easy but do to the way the ground works i know i cant
im going for the iron age and im just so bad
I cannot go to the swamp biome
what's worst than swamp?
even the black forest is almost too much for me bruh im fucked
mistlands
plains is good? I kinda need a flat terrain
I hope I wont have to go there for a while
ima go look for a plains biome
if u have a root harnesk chest piece then ya the plains arent that dangerous, aslong as u are careful of fulings
can i upgrade a nidhogg before using a gem on it? is this the right way to do it?
Upgrades are lost after enchanting
gotcha
bro i really just threw a portal down at the swamp just for an abomination to first, destroy my boat, and the portal i just threw down 30 seconds after landing, games amazing tho.
carry a hoe with you, makes traversing the swamp easier
it takes a bit of practice if you encounter an abomination, but their front right leg (front left for you looking at it) is kind of a blind spot where at
it's attacks won't hit you
Raise terrain requires stone too, I guess? Or can you simply flatten things?
just use level ground on slightly higher ground
yup, just flatten, it isn't always perfect, but makes a whole lot of a difference
there a way to spawn a two star asksvin? tried to bring eggs to another map and they dissapeared
spawn asksvin 1 3
cool thanks bud
you will die if you go to the plain
Is their a roadmap of what comming after Ashland ?
Deep North is coming after Ashland, that's the last biome. There's also an expected update for the Ocean biome.
root armor looks cool but i swear id be done with the mountain biome by the time i actually find enough aboms
if you get lucky with your swamp, some swamps are overrun with those guys
i have a massive swamp with prolly 15 crypts, still few and far between on aboms
the devs said maybe for ocean update, and also that if it happens it will not be a full biome just a few things, no boss etc (info mostly from Lumah streams)
could use some QoL to fishing
I had a small swamp with 3 crypts only but 2 surtling spawners and I killed / found about 12 abominations there
their AI is pretty garbage too, i just found one and it spawned and just runs off
I know?
just semantics, I didn't want people to fully expect an ocean biome update
there is a chance higher than zero that we will have another Hearth & Home style patch before Deep North as well, but same its not confirmed and if we get it no one knows what will be in it
I was cheesing a ghost by hitting it through a door with the Stagbreaker
But then it fell through the floor
it will be near the entrance, dungeons are physically located way up in the sky above where it is in the ground, if its dead it will be just gone as well, ghosts do not drop anything at all sadly
Hearth Home was game changer, Very appreciated
Lol, the ||hidden training dummy|| is very effective at training skills.
It can even be targeted by skeletts
This is great
I'm hoping for some more smaller content updates before DN, maybe even after but that may not happen. Currently I feel there is enough replayability value for me personally for a few years as is, but it is nice when even some little things like some of the H&H parts got added, or Hildir's request, or the Mountain caves, they all add nicely to the game. But that will stop sometime, I'll keep playing until I find a game that can capture me as much as Valheim can, which might be a long ways away either way.
I'm trying to find a swamp but I'm only finding plains, mountains, black forests, oceans, and meadows
I found a single swamp after a lot of sailing. A swamp consisting of about 5 trees and one stone structure
I just realize the only thing I have used Flametal for apart from building materials has been my axes. 😂
anyone know how to get surtling spawns to spawn? it only seems to spawn/kill them when im off screen
The dundr is ass
It has a niche usecase, far from a bad weapon
why not just... frost?
or troll? or ember? or anything but the staff of splintering?
i cant see a situation where it would be better then any other
It nukes morgens 🤷♂️
my mom
I'm not trying to claim it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it's far from bad.
and the trollstav is also better for anything else
Running? Big man has your back
Starting a fight? big man will get everything nice and low for ya
just need alil help? mister fi fiy fo fum will always help you. (just make sure he's low by the time the fight ends)
shame i'm not this far in to understand the context. maybe inna few months 😏
Doesn't it do a lot of damage if you're close? Sounds decent for mage/melee hybrid.
point blank. did like... 20% of a 0 star charred warriors health?
Are you asking me? 🤣
no thats just what around it did
I coulnt find any plains yet (idk what to even look for) but I dont have this type of armor
and what are fulings
this?
Yes sir
Hmm, sounds really good for parrying with your bubble then blasting tf outta the enemy.
thank you for the tip I'll def try
fuelings are lil goblins using meadows tier gear that dose so much damage you'd guess its level 18
But they are short so you can shame them
i shame them for not being human'
dam
are there any chill biome ?
Meadows
every biome is chill if you have strong enough gear
kinda depends
I found mountain biome pretty chill
most of the time when it comes to biomes you just gotta build in what you have to work with
ohh alrr
also for the swamp boss fight. make sure you make some posion mead
and probably some minor or medium healing mead if your dodging isnt up to par
is it a canon event for newbies to think the plains werent dangerous
It's not
plains are only dangerous for the guy in leather armor and using a club who dose not understand the biome he is going in
The only threat in there is the growths, but even those are pretty easy with light armor.
and not to mention the second you get magc growths are uh...
FIREBALL
FIREBALL
FIREBALL 🗣️
Growths are good lox killers
trolls are good village stompers
They are your friends
nothing puts a smile on my face more then spawning like 3-5 trolls into a village and watching them tear it apart
Never had the pleasure myself
Direct some fulings into a tar pit
canon event is for new players to get one shot by a Deathsquito while on the fringe of Plains
I just lost all my copper stuff, both of my boats and most of my food
I think im starting a new world
theres no way I can get to my stuff again lmao
yeah, i was sailing with my friend and thought the plains were just cool meadows then had us caught offguard with the deadsquitoes and killed by a mf goblin destroying a whole stone structure and destroyed our boat. we came back to literally nothing left there but our floating wooden planks
sailing along, food's worn off, forget to eat more, mosquito bite on the back of the neck ☠️
i think the goblins were 10x worse 💀 i only had troll armor and 100 hp and it one hit me
yeah, troll armor is Black Forest level stuff, the Fulings are like 3 biomes further
i remember being on the boat, my friend coming to land first to the plains columbus style, then trying to fight the fulings only to see my friend become a tomb in the blink of an eye.
and then my friend uttering every single goblin slur in existence forcing me to take his loots only to find myself besieged in a stone tower while i see it slowly crushing my crumbling stone tower
yeah, Plains were endgame up until relatively recently. tough stuff if you're not prepared
the staff of fracturing is not for damage although the fire damage stack each time ... since you get xp on hit in valheim, for each full hit from the ball. its hitting the monster around 10 time
that where the staff is goof for getting xp elemental skill
what even does upgrading your hammer do?
Higher durability so you don't have to repair it as much.
so its not good at BEING a staff?
like i say the fire damage stack you can get somthing like 200 damage/ tick if it stack high enouph but if you want to increase your elemental skill you dont want the DoT to do to mutch damage since its reduce the number of hit you could have in total of the monster life
In general it's a good idea to upgrade every weapon, tool and piece of armor
It always does something and eventually you'll be tripping in resources anyway so no need to hoard them
please tell me theres a way to destroy bukeperries I cant take it anymore
There should be a new hammer... some metal one... its weird to have wooden one since the very beginning until end game
Obliterator destroys everything.
i try to throw them into deep water to never see them again but they always come back
when does that unlock?
Black Forest.
Find Haldor and buy the Thunderstone.
Just want to share. This is my first immersive playthrough (5th total play) that I started couple days ago. I am on a journey to find bonemass and following several vegvisir away from my current outpost.
Since I thought it was close by, I pushed thru the nights eventho some of my equipment almost broke and no rest buff. I tried to set up bed to skip the night but ambushed by 2 wraits. Long story short, sunrise came without me sleeping, push thru again and found bonemass spawner.
Decided to back to my outpost first to prepare and hit the bonemass later.
This is my 5th plays and I still got the thrill from near death and finally found the boss spawner. Thank you devs for the amazing game you brought!
random fact: it takes 23 - 25 hits with a pickaxe to kill a Bonemaw
which armor should i get for Yagluth fight
both fenris, silver and padded armor are good for yagluth
padded is better than silver, between fenris and padded it's all up to preferance
Padded
fuck im still outta iron
You will never stop needing iron.
at least the mistlands got a quick and reliable way to farm iron
Swamp has a quick and reliable way to farm loads more 🤷♂️
back to my swamp base it is
and mistlands has been nerfed abit as the drop from ancient armors and weapons are mixed copper and iron now :/
Need 1200 Iron to upgrade all the Deep North weapons to max (I'm making shit up here^^)
wait the deep north is a playable area ?
North will bring a new material called
Deep Iron
which will basically be Bronze 2.0.
1 Ingot costs 3 Iron + 1 <Deep North Metal> 😉
along with 240 (combined to fully upgrade) flame metal and 1 of each gem for each upgrade from 1 to 4
Now that's just silly.
20 to initially make it, 10 more for level 2, 20 more for level 3 and another 40 for level 4
I would say DN Metal is like Copper 2.0, but instead of being 90% Stone per node, it is trapped in massive piles of Resin. 😁
so 270* mb xD
you need the flame metal to keep your armor warm or you freeze to death up there
I doubt they do a second freeze mechanic tbh.
Given they don't require any heat shielding in Ashlands.
only for the boat, true
Now I could totally see ice that you could fall through and then die if your swimming skill sucks 😉
i just hope they keep the already existing ice flakes in one way or another
hmmmmmGE
I can help retrieving your stuff...
ashlands is a difficult place to build in allright
usually yes
like i chose a fortress and tryna make it work but
Gets easier once you have a fortress, yeah.
i kinda suck in making rooms and such so its a bit of a challenge for me to visualize anything to do to make it work
i used the middle spot for a bonfire and made two floors around it but idk
theres some berries we need in ashlands but would foraging them be enuff ?
Is it possible to use commands on multiplayer I wanna play with my dad and build stuff because he likes playing games
thank god the bigger chest is twice the capacity and not just 1 extra row
i think u can
depends if u run the server or nah maybe
I run the server
What would you guys recommend to defeat moder? And how to approach the planes after that?
btw do 2-star wolves despawn at sunrise mid-taming?
Might be a lil late but you can use commands and fly over to your stuff
I forgot how to to it on pc because I play on Xbox but if you play Xbox it’s RT LT RB LB at the same time and hold those down then press the three lines
Then type in “devcommands”
And then say “Fly” and go get your stuff
You can search it up how to do it ok pc if your PC
LOOK ON ME, FFFUCK ON ME YUHYUH 🗣️
melee, block, dodge, and bow 😼
fire arrows and the best bow you have
fire, obsidian or needle arrows (if you have them) and draugr fang for a bow, its mountain tier and you will use it for a bit after mountains anyway
For plains:
1: Get a fully upgraded root chest piece
2: Get fire mead asap
3: Always carry Bonemass and heal pots
4: Mobbing Fulings into Growth Pits is a viable strategy
I just tried a new char
and holy heck, a lvl 100 run character vs a lvl 0 has massive difference
I feel so slow now
For planes u should build some nice airfield
#screenshots message anyone knows how tthes asks beast things are inside that building I am currently attacking?
Can we craft It?
wheres this at
you have to spawn it using devcommands
Just found a 2 ⭐ Troll with a log, in a Cave, but I have a Bronze Mace, and am too scared to fight it 😂
Hug him
I personally tried then died then came back when I was stronger and marked him
Yeah thats what ive done, I think he'll one hit me in Rag Tunic 😂
Got 2 caves near each other, 1* Troll with log, and 2* troll with log, never had such luck... Might just make an Ategir and try fight em...
Morgen gjall.
Yeah, i did contemplate that, just a permadeath world, so yeah...
oh nvm then deff dont try
Def makes me regret doing a mace playthru (hadnt done one in ages)
Was gonna say, maces are one of my favorites, and dagger. now its magic ofc
Maces are great, except on trolls early game XD
Anyone know how much blockforce required for 2* troll with log? 😂
That's not how that question works.
Given X block armor, how much health is needed to block?
☝️That is the proper way to phrase the question.
Could of just given the answer, since you understood 🙂
I can't, because I don't know what your block armor is.
Once I have that, I can give answers.
Simplifying it: are you using a shield? If so- which?
Bronze Shield, Level 3
Massive!
massive?
A Whooping 11...
wellp
I only started this server today haha
Bronze Buckler rank 3 with 0 skill vs. 2 star troll requires 129 HP to parry.
I dont even know if I can hit that atm LOL
Max HP* not current.
Then you cannot parry them for the time being.
Sorry 😭
Potentially, I could, but would require 3 red food... I have access to Deer Stew, Minced Meat, Cooked Deer...
Sounds like too much risk for perma world 😉
I can dodge and kill trolls without being hit, but knowing my luck, this would be the time i dont.
It also would allow only 1 parry.
Anything else that would contribute to your stagger bar would stagger you instantly.
Its in cave, so thats not an issue... Would just be 1vs1
Time to put my big boy pants on... and die 🙂
You'd have to hope your stagger bar completely emptied for the next attack.
So like you said, not worth it.
In regards to Block Armor, does your armor you're wearing, also lower the max required hp?
Thank you Sevrahn 😄
I had them unpin my sheet about blocking because I am not planning to update it from Mistlands until the game is complete (given how involved updating it is)
But who knows, I may get bored 🤷♂️
What do you mean by "Complete"? Deep North, Ocean ?
Yes. As in all enemies in game.
So it'll never be complete, cos lets hope we get content for years more to come
@buoyant ether
Nope.
devcommands > ||spawn trainingdummy||
why does it seem like wood iron is the answer to all structural problems
It will be complete, because the game will have a defined ending.
Because it is.
Because that is literally its entire purpose
We finally got to ashlands, i feel like the morgens and skeletons are a bit easy, are there going to be more difficult enemies? Should i turn up the difficulty to get a bit more out of the biome?
Just stay out through the night if you want more of the starred enemies.
And find you some Fortresses.
Not really, but more than the general area is yeah.
I still feel like going to mountains and getting killed by wolves has been the biggest challenge thus far in game
Don't worry about it being too easy. They are nerfing the biome 🙃
Well theres still the option for 2 more challenging difficulty settings
Im playing on the default one
I'll be gone the next week, so you'll have to do without Morgen gjall.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO
Its only for a week, next Monday I'll be back.
<Mordin from Mass Effect 2>
Unacceptable methods...
Unacceptable goals...
No choice... have to kill you.
jedi hand wave
This is not the method you are looking for.
You think you're some kind of jedi, waving your hand around like that?
I'm a [Valheimien], mind tricks don't work and I make only money.
No money, no fishing bait, no coal.
An no one ELSE sells Thunderstones. I can promise you that!
I'm your only customer though, are you sure you have to kill me?
Fair. I wonder if Haldor sells to normal Dverger and leaves the Mistlands whenever he sees someone getting dropped off by a Valk.
#1024264966712340510 Is the place to look for other players.
You're... specifically targeting 12-14 year-olds?
i just realised, i did my fortress base so that u cant even farm there 💀 oops
(peachyboo here, new nick)
knowing ur PFP's context is insanely grim 💀
wdym, just look at that innocent smile?
such an angel 🥺
so im thinking of ditching the whole idea of a base within ashlands
no one would blame you, it aint pretty out there
finally found some damn turnip seeds
most likely because building one is a massive pain and the new portals make bases closer to certain biomes redundant
this, all of this
the exact same reason i only maintain one major base, yes
thinking of even going back to meadows for a base
ive dabbled with multiple cuz its my first run so, im still tryna figure out my ideal base
kinda we tbh
once you have access to balistas you can build everywhere
i do enjoy mega tall huts alot, simplistic and works
going hard at it
or a large base with a core citadel
avarage village enjoyer here
considering the small size of ashlands, its not optimal for bases, as well as location.
but you do need outposts though
i been wanting to build a village
every biome requires a certain kind of base type
yeah but an outpost in a cleared fortress is a matter of like, two balistas, a portal and some extra shit
not really
nope
my favorite hut is a 2x3 -- can last with an additional storage barn till plains
biggest downside of this seed is, 0 meadows islands
why build a base when you can simply wall up a portal and be fine with that until... ashlands
where you then put said portal in a fortress xd
i think he meant that every biome needs its own aesthetic for a base?
you can use the same walled portal setup in the ashlands too -- monsters don't aggro through walls if it's fully enclosed
i mean you need to adapt your style and base to the biome; mountains i only needed a lil cabin and a road to water port for ex
of c if one really wants to and goes the Hard way, you can build a castle in ashlands, no problem. It`s just not really needed otherwise
my engineer brain tells me otherwise
that you cannot build a castle?
I'm so confused. or are you saying a castle is necessary -- which also doesn't make a lot of sense
would even be able to do one in the mountains, very easily at that
i hear the snowstorms might cause lag ?
but yeah a snowy base sounds kinda cool tbh tbh tbh
until blizzards tank your fps
but otherwise, yeah they're neat. Fires are doubly important because not only do they provide light, but also heat
crate of bananas ideal base still one of my fav base designs
it would need a third floor to be ideal tbh
hehehe, keep buidling
i am xd
beat my worlds aslands cept the islands as theyd b a pain. tamed 2 star asksvin. tried to bring eggs to a different world to clear for more gems. they disappeared and i just spawned a couple in. decided to hatch 20 to fight yagluth. knew was a bit overkill but they killed him within a few seconds. he got off one attack and barely scratched them. worst one still had 7/8 of its health. that was fun
I very much enjoy a plains base.
Can grow every crop there from previous biomes.
Black metal scraps get delivered to your door for those big chests.
I do try and find a plains with mistlands nearby though.
Best place for a base is a world where the mistlands was explored but ashlands dropped the terrain down and all you can do is build on the rocks that are now stacked on top of each other and sticking out of the water. that is where i put my base. Nothing spawns there because there is no terrain. its perfectly hidden by surrounding mist and i can park my boat in a longship sized cave, you cant find that anywhere else naturally
hey my savage pillagers of dvergr-folk
Is it rare to see two ancient roots side by side?
I've never actually let this happen, but can rain destroy your structures fully?
Yes
Never knew that
No, most is half way.
Rain and waves should only degrade to 50% unless it's a bug.
Rain only takes you 50% of the way.
No
This is wrong mate
the damage from rain stops at 50%, if something is more damaged than that there was a different damage source
I found 4 close together 3 of them entwinted.
Big W's
if i have the root helmet drinking poison resistance mead will increase the resistance?
(against posion)
the poison resistance will overide your root helmet resistance since the mead is better (they will not stack)
I was just about to fight bonemass, guess I'll make an iron helm if that's the case. I was wearing the helm just for that poison res
I was poking around on a mountain and noticed that wolves have a very weird attack animation and parry window. And for some reason if I stagger a wolf I can't hit it until the stagger goes away
Do u guys have any obscure secrets about Valhiem??
Anything from building tips to rare spawns.
And many commands in this article
What do y'all like to run with in the ashlands, or even for fader? I'm playing solo and running staff of the wild, nidhogg the primal, and full flametal armor with one eitr weave pants. Looking for recommendations on improving this.
Berserkir axes.
Ask armor + ash cape (even though the cape covering 70% of your head looks horrible)
why ask armor
Y'all prefer axes over swords?
Also I have black metal chest full of charred bones, anything good to do with those?
Arrows or bolts
Swords black forest-mistlands then once you can berserker axes for ashlands is that strat tbh
Hmm. alright then I'll try them out. Are there bloodstone etc. variants on the axes?
yep
-20% Stamina on attacks?
Point of the axes is full offense. So -20% from armor and another -10% from cape.
I really like the primal variants of the weapons for the stopping power. Is there a strong argument for the lightning or blood variants?
Lightning is really strong cause of the chain lightning procs, helps a lot with hoards, blood is kinda niche and meh
chain lightning?
Basically the enchantment gives you a chance to chain lightning onto your target/different enemies nearby doing 75 damage
I'm playing a very hard perma death run through. I'm setting off to kill Moder my plan is to dig under her altar in a ring, bury myself in and shoot her through the gaps. Any advice to not do this, if my gear is not right is appreciated: https://i.imgur.com/zzf31Oe.png
im bringing stuff for a forge to repair as well
Oh where does it say it'll have a chain effect? Or is that just how lightning works?
Green = Bow, and only bow.
Blue = vs. groups
Red = vs. singular strong opponents
Chain Lighting is an on hit effect triggered by Ashlands weapons upgraded with a Iolite.
A chain lightning has a 25% chance to trigger on a normal attack and a 20% chance to trigger on a secondary attack.
It deals 75 lightning damage to the target, the amount is not affected by skills and it cannot be blocked or dodged.
Once triggered, it has an 80% chance of bouncing off nearby enemies or players. If so, each nearby target within 8 m has a 30% chance of being targeted, up to a maximum of 2-4 targets per bounce (the maximum is chosen at random then targets are processed starting from the nearest). The process repeats indefinitely, centered on each new target, but with the chance of rebound reduced by 75% each time (80% x 75% x 75%, etc.). Chain lightning cannot affect the same target more than once.
Chain Lightning within the vicinity of allied Dverger has the potential of damaging them, immediately turning them hostile.
The "cannot effect more than once" is very badly worded imo.
What it means is that per chain proc, when bouncing around, it cannot bounce back to the same target.
ye, but I don't write the wiki so 🤷♂️
You can proc the initial chain off the same target as many times as you want. And each new proc can bounce to any target it feels like.
bow or crossbow?
It's much faster to melee her, but use fire and poison arrows otherwise.
And blood is strong against single opponents if you're going to be missing more than like 70 HP for the duration of the fight.
Lightning's average single target DPS is going to be +18.75
So you can do the math to find how much health you have to be missing per individual weapon to know when blood beats it.
(In this context the S stands for Damage Per Swing, not per Second)
I went Storm Fang (blue bow), and will be making Root Ripper (green crossbow) now that we have enough Flametal.
Speaking of having enough Flametal, has anyone accidentally put their Mistwalker onto a catapult?
(Whilst using said catapult to ‘mine’ a Flametal spire)
No? Just me?
🤣😭
did it slow the flametal?
Make sure to start the boss at the start of the day to avoid night wolf spawns
Also might wanna spawnproof the area near the altar just to avoid things such as wolves and golems spawning nearby
i might be cursed to play solo fo-eva
hey
Solo Valheim is the way to play it.
it does feel mysterious that way, but sometimes i get the urge to "if i had someone with me here might be cool"
Hey how do i find the drywn parts?
Man I wish using items from chests was builtin in the game and not a mod.
A lot of QoL stuff missing.
I can't use mods.
why not
but half the game is inv management 😏
Console players.
You can enjoy that, just don't use the QoL features yourself, and bom. You now have 150% of the game and your identity of being good at inventory management remains untarnished.
The "dislike a very important feature of the game that literally changes it completely? Don't use it then lol" "argument" needs to die as asap as possible...
The "I don't like that opt-in feature that you choose to use, so it shouldn't exist because my identity is tied to how annoying/hard/punishing things are" is asinine.
they already have that built in for people who don't really want to play, just type nocost into the console and bam no more inventory management
wdym i hate inventory management, no need to take it personal dude, its not that deep
sometimes u gotta take good with the bad
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Dyrnwyn found this for you
Bold of you to assume people would use the current solutions rather than keep demanding them.
bro i hate building roofs so much
i fucked up one measurement somewhere during the build and now i gotta do IT ALL AGAIN?!?!?!?!
aaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
bruh
i aint build for this 😫
You see the morons commenting after you? You were actually decent in comparison.
thats why you do the foundation first, with core wood
Assuming no-cost is the same solution as "Use items from inventory chest" is next level stupid.
didyou mean items from chests? everybody uses items from iventory
Same people would argue against UI and graphics in RPG games from early 90s.
"Don't need UI and graphics, just read text"
Correct, fixed.
you are getting way too heated over this
True, but it's always the same ratbags that attach their identity to how annoying something as a virtue that argue against it instead of letting it go.
a game isnt worth calling people morons, ratbags or stupid
That's true, you're right.
Just played Shadow of Mordor, so I've been using ratbag a lot.
nocost works the same though. if you know what you want to make and have already farmed the mats, turn it on , make what you want, then relog and the recipes go away if that's what you're worried about. or they used to i haven't tried it since before ashlands
well i was folloring a guide to a T so i thought id be fine 😫
is it the walls or what's off? the roof?
well the walls should be okay
but soemthuing during the when i went for the roofs musta been it
if you post a picture in the building screenshots channel we can look and see .. one way is just to build the roof up from the center somewhere, then when it's attached to the building walls, demo that original pole
be sure that fondation is touching the ground
You're not here to last long I see...
this is so frustrating
what biome your in curently ?
ashlands but i decided not to build a base there
did lose a lot of time tryna build a nice fortress bunker
that's why carpenters have a saying, "measure twice, cut once"
im only using rat hole as outpost in ashland 😅
protip: start from bottom
protip2: make outlines first
Just take over the fort with stairs, then build over structers and now you have the best home in whole game
im almost done 😤
nah i dont like le fortress, thats the issue
🤷♂️
TIL that thunderstorms create the right lighting conditions for wisps to spawn
or you can just wait for the night
i just realized the kitchen isnt optimal
might have to build a kitchen separate 🤔 village here i cum
what if i create an outdoor kitchen but from stone or such ?
I'm almost certain there might be some good ideas/examples in the building screenshot chat...would just have to do a little digging.
now id have to spawn proof the whole island 😫
yeah need to go thru that when i got patience
tho i managed to make a snug lil kitchen area
Having key words and using the search feature definitely helps.
oh yeah, that function exists
Forever scrolling is just a pain to try and find anything.
are the devs going to add achievements to the game?
After 1.0, yes
Ohhhh digital shinies 🤩

Didn't say it was the optimal way
ty
My friend shut down our valheim server for maintenance, he ended up going on vacation and forgot to put the server back up, I've been Valheim deprived for a week 🥲
Still no Ashlands tuning patch?
Anyone knows if the lava can be redirected like Tar ?
I elevate the lava and its off
It's still in the PTB
I was hoping before the weekend so I can play without risking losing an eye.
Is that new about mystical forces preventing building at the last boss ?
Wasnt a thing before
I finally get the ashlands difficulty war.
Just landed on its shore for the first time and theres nonstop waves of skeletons. Any tips? Im using frostner since magic doesnt seem to be working that great
What ? I have been using magic and wont use anything else.
Nothing as agile, damaging, and resistant than a wizard
build a fort and get a foot hold so you can learn the area
Wait for tuning patch?
I stopped playing until they tone it down.
It's doable, but it's not fun imo.
Also, there seems to be consensus that Mistwalker is bis
Wow deleted
I was hoping to get some info on serpents and when they spawn. do serpents only spawn during night or during a storm in the sea? or can they spawn at any time and be found in rivers and such?
whats a good food combo for the queen?
they spawn during storms and stay untill killed
and as for nights well i think they spawn? but not as much and despawn during the day(unless its a stormy night)
ok, thank you
That depends on how you play but broadly, whatever your best 3 foods are.
The specific foods don’t matter, if they are all made with mistlands ingredients and you aren’t using 3 stamina or 3 health it will work well
yeah I love trolls getting me stuck inside a tree and then getting 1 shot
Is there an option to turn off player names in game? Because if so a Viking war would work better
Pins in this channel.
Scarlet's message about resources.
Roll down to my food sheet.
"Configurations" tab.
Mistlands.
As of yet, I have not seen anything in any patch notes to suggest that is possible. I would imagine you would have better luck with a mod. I have seen others ask the same, but I haven't seen any answers of "yes, and this is how".
Hello, i am looking for EXTREMELY good dedicated Valheim Builders for an adventure map i am creating for players to enjoy. If you are an expert builder whose really good with detail, please DM me and ill give you all the info needed
Bet
Cries in modless console
Ouch
Celebrates in modless PC.
Think you said that wrong
Nope.
Modless = no mods
Exactly.
I have none.
I am on PC.
I celebrate enjoying the game.
Mods are overrated.
I would throw a party 😭
Sounds like a perfect world.
Man I just want to turn off player icons for realistic Viking war experience
You're having the realistic 1990 war experience with screen-peekers 😉
Nah that sucked more
On map? Just turn off share my location.
I mean when your near them
Can’t really stealth your way to the enemy when the enemy can see your name
To remove the name above the viking correct?
Ye
Enemy? It's a coop game.
There’s a take player damage and a way to stop people opening doors
It’s coop but you can also war
Kinda like the crouch feature in Minecraft then.
You mean the lean forward feature?
😁
Not really the point of Valheim.
@coarse wedge there's a strong bet modding will come to console when the game is done.
Until then, sorry 😭
I prefer the base game anyway, except for my transmog mod. Which I hope will be replaced by an appearance tab or an item appearance swapper anyway. (but probably won't)
Also Sev you were right, once I've hunted all the lox and squitos plains are extremely peaceful
You can build squito-proof walls.
Bow progression seems kind of unbalanced. For example with a large amount of damage coming from arrows, the damage upgrade going from Finewood Bow to Huntsman Bow isn't high enough to justify the 33% increased drawback stamina cost. Unless there's some hidden stats at play like drawback speed, after accounting for arrows and upgrades you're getting maybe like 10% more damage for 33.3% more stamina cost.
(This is calculated with Needle Arrows, which aren't even the strongest arrows. The stronger the arrow, the less the bow's base power matters)
or just train some ballistae to target them via orbital satelite
Now that’s the Viking way
Huntsman is your "bow with a silencer on it" just fyi. So that's the reason some people get it.
Personally I find "the same weapon but next tier costs more stamina" to be a dumb design choice to begin with, but it isn't my game so 🤷♂️
Stamina drain is just kind of a part of the game... I'm always running out of stamina anyway, I barely notice the difference because of that and I'm used to juking and pausing or chugging mead to deal with stamina issues so I'd take the damage over the stamina
The more stamina is likely a tool to make the game feel more demanding/hardcore. Forcing decisions in tougher scenarios.
I find the best way to deal with any situation is to very quickly deal a lot of damage
I think the costing more stamina makes sense as it forces higher tier stamina foods.
But the damage gain should be worth the stamina cost. Like if it's costing 1.33x as much stamina, it should at least do somewhere close to 1.3x damage.
I'm sure they also don't want bows to mitigate TOO much of the danger of the game, as it is you can one shot snipe so many enemies with a bow
As long as you have the element of surprise
If enemies had armor, could have arrows do pretty much the same damage across the board and have an armor pen stat that gets better on better arrows.
Making the bow damage actually matter.
You can clear out a fuling village in minutes from a tall rock with some needle arrows
If that happened, combat would fall flat likely. Imagine a seeker being as easy to kill as a graydwarf.
Once you have Himmin, they are 😉
Something else I don't like about bows is how they honestly feel slow and awkward early on but then they scale so ridiculously high with archery skill that it becomes overpowered if you get a high archery level
I love early archery lol
Sneaking after deer and greylings with a crappy bow and needing to creep and crouch felt like real hunting
That feeling gets lost as you become a ragnarok warrior of doom
Early archery is a bumbling mess of "oops I missed" several times till you get that hit and the feeling of victory.
