I grew up when printed manuals were still a fashion, meaning you actually had to pause the screen and look something up. Something which could take long if you didn't remember what page it was on.
Nowadays we got 2 search machines, discord itself got a search function and ppl still ask questions they could answer for themselves if they just used their brains and activated the search function for 25 seconds.

Asking question because you don't know something, even if it's obvious isn't the problem.
Asking the same question several minutes after you asked it before and got an answer is.

Also,

I don't mind helping people, because that's what this channel is - partially anyway - for.
But sometimes I too run out of patience.

And I feel sorry for the mods and helpers here who have to deal with that kind of crap a quazillion times a day.

Disadvantage of the arbalest is that it has a loading time. Spinesnap is faster with that.
Advantage of the arbalest is that it hits like a truck.

This is going to keep happening unless you change the incentive structure for people. The PTB channels are far below both the "Valheim" and "Help Channels" categories; in fact, they're below a handful of voice channels, and you need to scroll to find these channels. If you were new here, and had a question regarding Ashlands (the content most people in Valheim are playing), you would likely find yourself in #valheim-chat or #valheim-help.

KInda the result of all those games like Elder Scrolls (both online and offline).
In those games, when being a tank you got the thickest armor, the largest shield and the largest sword.
And aborbs damage just like a chocolate addict absorbs M&M's.
Not to mention, they still can run and sprint.

In this game things are more realistic, especially with the movement penalty, so when things go awry, they find out they can't run away and their thick armor isn't absorbing all damage when holding their shield up.

If you still have that other character, why not bring it in, equip the wishbone from the same game the character was from, move to the mountains, mine one silver vein to get Frostner made and log it out again.

You can use Frostner on your current character against bonemass, can still continue with the game's intended progress and will be able to defeat bonemass with a bit more ease as it usually should be.

For bonemass a tier 3 root armor - including helmet - Poison resistance potions, a tier 3 iron club, a tier 3 banded shield or iron buckler and turnip stew, black soup and sausages should be enough to deal with him.
Can have stamina and health potions for backup; as you may need it.

Your old save will transfer and adjust to the new biome once it's fully released.
If you intend to play the PTB, it's advised to make a backup of your saves, so you can roll back if you don't like the PTB.

It's basically a public beta of the new Ashlands biome; which you can access to test and find bugs before the public release.

But waiting for it to be done and playing the Ashlands biome after the public release is perfectly fine too.

I never did, but right now I've not even been to the part where Yagluth seems to hide, but I have been raiding some villages.

Usually I set up a small base not too far from Yagluth so getting to him will be easier. And just turn it into a farm area.
But this time I haven't even made a plains-outpost, instead cultivated some land near Hildir and used that as a farm.
Didn't even need to plant flax as I got that from the raided villages.

Still, going through that portal and farming the barley, then going back is getting a bit boring. Fortunately there's fullings, lox and Deathsquitoes to play with. 😄

I usually set up my Mistlands outpost under the staircase to the Sealed doors.
Plenty of room for a portal, a chest and a workbench.
And often there's enough room for 2-3 rows of Mistland crops, there's some hares nearby I can trap and a root for sap.
Makes things quite easy as the only thing I need to get from further down the road are the black marble, soft tissue and seal breaker fragments.
And especially those last ones can cause a problem.

But the reason I want to try plains is that all crops you can grow up to that point can grow there too.
So if I'm able to find an island and if I'm able to make it spawn proof before a deathsquito gets me, it'll make a very good base as I can grow carrots, turnip, onion, barley and flax at one spot.

Putting glass behind a light source helps, you can see the reflection from higher distance

I think all torches will do, but they will need fuel.
Wisplight and Dverger lanterns are - iirc - the only two that don't; making them better lights for a dock.

But you can of course build yourself a tower near your docks and put a bonfire on it and keep that lit at all times.
You may see it from further away as the smaller lights.

I have an open area at my 1st floor to let the heat and smoke come through from the hearths I have at ground level and was wondering about how to block them off.
Decided to use the darkwood dividers, but found that putting them at the top of the stone floor was making them too large.

Instead put them against the sides of the stone floor and got a nice "half wall size" railing out at the moment.
And it looks quite good too.

You can get a cart on a boat by building stairs and a platform over it then breaking them to drop the cart, but it's not easy getting it just right if you're using a karve (the small width of the boat makes it difficult). The weight of the cart will also affect the boat by weighing down the side it's on.

Best advice I ever got was to use a polearm currently slaughtering the mistlands with it easily, works great in the dungeons you'll find there, and basically everywhere else. It's a bit stamina heavy but the stamina cost reduces with polearm skill level

Ah it's a good weapon is all, you'll see a weapon in certain game tiers calle the ategeir, it's a polearm class weapon, it does a lot of damage, stuns enemies, and has very very good reach. It's good in all biomes but especially the second to last one (Mistlands).

just build a stone wall like 2m high is enough to stop them mobs from getting in and build it 2m broad so I can stand on it and shoot 😄 even the horde has a hard time getting in only flying stuff does (bats, draks, bugs) but they would cross everything really so no loss there 😄

I think it should because it looks for a spot to legally spawn mobs and if that is far away from your base because of spawn proofing they might not get to your base at all, unless you move closer to them.

As for the food, as said, going to eat again with 5 min at the clock may be a good idea for sure.
I usually let it ran out, but made certain I was in a safe spot - like inside a cleared building - before it actually hit zero.

It's set to happen within the next 62 days.
So if you can wait that long, at least you know how long you have to wait maximum.

As for possible issues, you can - actually, should - create a backup of your existing world(s) before entering the PTB. In case something goes wrong when the public version launches, you got the ability to roll back your world to before entering the PTB and play on from that again.

When you're using one of your PC's to host the game, the rollback will be easier.

But right now, having way too much fun shooting those Fullings from their own Archery tower.
It's nice to see that green trail soaring through the air, hitting the fulling and then seeing the fulling explode.
Only downside, since I don't see the names above the monsters, I doubt I get bow skill from it.

Huntsman's bow is handy too, depending on how you want to deal with that stuff. Aggroing only a few enemies in a village at a time makes it much more manageable.

Aye, that's what I did.
There's a stone tower nearby I cleared first and then used to clear the area around that archery tower by shooting the common fullings and shamans first.
Focussing at the beserkers after that to take a few of those out, before waiting for things to calm down, gather the loot and take most of it back to my base. Picking up new arrows and entering the fight again to make sure everything is absolutely safe around that archery tower.
Repeated the approach and now I'm able to move inside the village to take out those at the back.
There's two of their houses and at least one of them may have the platform in the right direction.
Still, there's one shaman and the 1 star beserker left. And I'm not sure I like to face those two combined. So shaman is going to be taken out first.

When I entered the mountains at a spot I thought would be giving an easy slope, I ran into a log cabin pretty soon. Decided to use it as a base, went out to look for silver but didn't have the wishbone equipped. Saw a rock, wondered if it was stone or obsidian, so equipped the pickaxe and saw it was a silver vein.
Easiest find I ever had.
Mined it out, took the silver to a cart I made for that purpose, equipped the wishbone, walked back to the slope I entered the mountains on and found another vein. 🙂

You can always turn on hammer mode, or use commands to spawn it in if you want to just build. But I'd suggest playing through the game fully before going too hardcore on building, there are so many more things to figure out that will completely change how and where you're going to want to build that it's worth going minimal-ish for now until you know the full progression. I've built lots of huge bases that ended up being useless and unvisited because I didn't know what I didn't know.

Nice! Windows make such a difference to the feel of a building. There's two golems; one has a kinda pointy arm, and the other has big, rock fists that smash. The former is definitely easier than the latter, at least in terms of timing block/stagger.

I think each weapon type dose a certain amount of poise damage with blunt having the highest I think. your weapon skill seems to determine added dps with stm cost reduced. at least from what I can tell.

I have always rolled with swords and from what I have seen small/mid size mobs poise breaks after 3-4 hits and larger guys like brutes, golems and such take 5-6.

I prefer to wait for strikes and parry them for instant poise breaks.

I entered it after defeating Moder.
Been doing some "incursions" first to gather enough black metal to get better gear; which was a pain as the only portal near it was the one leading to Hildir.
Eventually managed to raid one village - which means the one I'm doing now is the 3rd, not the 2nd - and got enough out of it to craft the black metal shield and hammer.

The worst was actually getting the black metal from the Hildir portal to the coast.
I couldn't / wouldn't dock close to that portal as I had no idea about what to expect north of her, although it seems there is a passage there.
So I had to cart the stuff through a meadows to a coastline closer to my base and ship it home.
For the next batch I'm going to sail closer to that portal, as I think the gap there is wide enough for me to pass without having Deathsquitoes playing catch with me.

Right, I had Bonemass' power.

They do occasionally sense me, but it's actually the most safe place as they can't get to me.

I got a question about how the world events work. Does recent interactions with certain mobs trigger them? I had to fend off against two trolls in the middle of the dark forest. I didn't kill them and they lost aggro, 3 days in the midst of building my base (in a meadow biome mind you) the troll invasion event started and I had to fight against, sure enough, two trolls. I had the same thing happen with greydwarves.

It's a solo world and no troll or elder died in about 20 in game days lol. I was making a base closer to a huge swamp biome for a good bit. Hel all I was fighting was the leeches and draugrs lol. But now you have me thinking... could mobs fighting eachother trigger events? I distinctly remember a roaming lvl 2 draugr in the area with the trolls and greys

Rolling makes you invincible but Hugin doesn’t tell you. Killing a troll is fairly easy once you know this, as long as you don’t run out of stamina.

If you find their spawner, the big fire, you can dig down to the water level once the initial group is dispatched and then they die as soon as they spawn in the water and you have a core and coal farm 😉
