Ashlands is meant to be heavy metal. You need to be rocking staff of protection at all times to even survive.

Best thing to do performance-wise is to add those gfx-lines in boot config, set high priority in taskmanager, and that exclusive-fullscreen thing. Funnily enough for me, my game runs better when it runs in windowed or borderless, anyone else also have this?
If I do the Alt+Enter thing so it runs native fullscreen, I have about 80-85fps in my base, though in windowed/borderless, easily goes up to 105-120. RTX3070Ti, 5900X, 32GB 3200MHz. Though I hope the developers do what they can to optimize the game better for those with lower-end specs, and of course consoles)

Though I think Unity gets a bit undeserved bad rep, it's not a bad engine at all by any chance. Personally just think it get's a bad rep cause many bad games have come from it )

I think that is a somewhat black or white take on it. Does not need to be marketed as a dlc, but it is an easy way to earn money on existing, well known IP while working on new ip. There is a market for more content so pretty easy revenue. It all comes down to marketing really. Iron Gate did something very few indie studios manage with Valheim and could pretty much lay the foundation for something way bigger if they wish to expand the world and lore.

Almost all crops grow there, it's easy to terraform, has much fewer obstacles, it's pretty and it's usually adjacent to mistlands where you can grow the other two remaining crops

All biomes can be nice for bases, can be made to work, there will often be at least 1 good thing for each biome, current playthrough I'm building at lest 1 base in each biome. It's very fun. Mountains for instance has some raids disabled, Swamp can have automatic coal and surt core farm on-hand, Mistlands you can build a base near your sap collectors and farm important shrooms, Meadows has very beautiful music and is also missing some raids, Plains can farm everything except the 2 shrooms, Ashlands base makes your first Asksvin tames be easier etc.

If you use in the middle of the ocean in a loose sense, there are random submerged "black forests" that have a rock sticking up just enough to place a workbench.

Very small plains island are also a great "ocean" base.

Ocean base could mean one where there is a spawn proofed island that is 100% surrounded by ocean, I love those, so no shallows around so you can 100% spawnproof it, works in different actual biomes, the ocean itself does not spawn any land at all for building

bats are one of the monsters that can still spawn for island bases though, and you can't ever turn bat raid off specifically, only way is to never trigger it in the first place

Mistlands is the best place to look if you want to build in literal ocean biome. There are places where you've got dirt raised up in easy reach that's ocean.

The only time I have considered a Mistlands base... it wasn't even a Mistlands base. It was a very short Mountain in the middle of Mistlands to where "ground level" was the top of the Mist itself.

I find the pickaxe to be a better leveler than the hoe. Hoe is better a deleveller

There is a lot of discussion on vineberries in the building chat sections. If you use the search feature, you will find a bunch of posts.

But it is also known to be buggy(vineberries growth).

Having gotten Vineberries to grow I feel some of the behaviour is intended. Because we now have over 100 seeds, and a chest full of berries purely from cultivated vines. But there does seem to be an issue with their growth and fruit reverting if you log out or portal away.

Necks are an interesting example of what it means to be a 'starred' mob. A starred Neck usually has more than one tail. A two-star Neck has a good number of tails. This would suggest that 'stardom' is a genetic mutation that likely provides no additional survival/reproductive advantage. Maybe something to do with negative frequency dependence?
