People who play on harder difficulities: why?

I understand enjoying a challange, I personally enjoy the souls series, including challange runs.

However, for valheim in particular, how do you play for combat to become more interesting rather than just slower? And doesn't the constant difficulity detract from the satisfying gameplay loop of slowly conquering the biomes?

Hard feels very fun and balanced to me. Just a more challenging gamemode. Enemy damage goes up a lot more than player damage goes down too, so it's not really a slogfest

Is Ashlands going to get a rebalance any time soon? I've tried progressing through it with a party of 3 and the spawn rate felt completely unbalanced. We can barely walk away from our teleporter before fighting just about every enemy in the Ashlands all at once. With the current state of the Ashlands it's incredibly infuriating and is mostly unplayable for me and my friends. We have spent upwards of 10 hours in there just to make a house and start mining the metals in the area

I'll reply properly, because right-clicking is too 'low brow' for some people. The graphics seem to be selectively 'basic'. The wider world, light rays, depth of field, stuff like that is all pretty much at the technology frontier. Characters, building blocks, etc. are pretty basic, but the whole aesthetic is (in my opinion) really well reconciled.

I avoided MC for 10 years because of the graphics. The game is 15 years but looks like +20 years old.

But I stopped caring after realising that is still fun, game looks terrible, but it's fun. I'm much more annoyed at the fact that it has much less content that it should despite being so old at this point, Terraria was born very shortly after and feels like it has x10 more passion than MC ever had

They're fairly open to interpretation by design, yes, but the most common theme seems to be that the game should be on a state where community interaction is impactful, and it's not either a very early tech demo nor just final bug testing.

For Valheim, the goal the devs had set was for the story to be complete by 1.0; so all planned biomes and bosses and such.

Running fixes or some changes after 1.0 releases wouldn't be cheating the EA system at all, imo.

Gaming will never utilize multicore CPUs in the same way as a code compile or render. It's too dynamic. Fundamentally games will always want really good performance on a few cores, and especially a high boost on one single core. A lot of parallelization that exists in games is more to make them less single threaded by removing as much burden as possible from the main thread.

Hence why some theoretical 6 core Zen 6 CPU will probably hold up fine, for instance. Hardware Unboxed has done a bunch of good videos on this.

It's just developer tools. The tools don't exist for good parallelization in games. I don't necessarily have any good explanation for why that is, but until the off the shelf tools get better for devs to make games utilizae multicore CPUs in a better way, we're kinda stuck.

Like, Timberborn sort of arbitrarily splits water physics to their own thread, because stuff like that is as much as Unity allows. But you get communication problems and latency if you split too many things in that way.

and while I'm definitely not a mac fanboy, every sliver of marketshare taken away from windows should be celebrated, supported and commended.

videogames are legitimately the only reason I've kept windows on my personal computers, and while I'm very happy that a large majority of games I can play on Linux -- it's not quite all of them, which is the only reason I keep the unobedient, constantly waking up in the middle of the night to install updates and ads, infinite bootlooping after one of the earlier ones, occassional blue screens of death, uncustomizable, unresponsive and laggy POS operating system.

The more game devs move away from windows exclusivity, the better the world will become.

I planned something similar for flametal fishing, and marble/tissue fishing, building up bait stocks is clutch. if I could get ymir flesh and moder tears to drop some place, I could play the whole item progression without interacting with a boss.

it's laborious, boring, slow, unrewarding, and doesn't have enough good uses in a normal playthrough

feedback is unclear, margin of error is tiny, stamina drain is absurdly quick, and ultimately the rewards are very limited and not worth the effort compared to anything else you can do in the game

Rain Coat item support, to avoid cold/wet status impacts on stamina - Fishing skill not being impacted by death skill drain - Bobber which glows for night fishing - Monsters that can be pulled from water - Less interaction from fish that Won't take the bait, unless you add a chance for all bait to catch all fish.

they have weather related special fish, encanted item drops, rare drops, questline, etc

I personally don't care much for fishing in valheim but if you ever plan to update the fishing mechanic have you considered it being like sea of thieves where you have to pull the rod against the fish to tire it out and then you reel it in while it is tired?

you can also make and breed yr own fish in a fish trap

I have a question about fishing (i still havent tried it), the baits are tied to in game progression, can and should i just wait until i get the best (ashlands?) Fishing bait until i start doing it
