Hm, but I won't be able to get to the old one as it's available in- and externally via [name].duckdns.org on https
So.... disable SSL?
I'm not 100% sure how to do that. Remove the external URLS from Settings -> Network?
plus I have
http:
use_x_forwarded_for: true
trusted_proxies:
- 172.30.33.0/24```
I don't have any, that's all that's in http:
So are you using a reverse proxy (like ngnix)?
Yes, I am. Sorry, I forgot, it's been over a year since I did this.
Then you can just update your proxy settings
It's the nginx add-on inside HA
I guess if I turn the proxy off, reset the hostname and remove the lines above?
You don't even need to remove those lines
Install the add-on on the new host and configure it correctly then update the port forwarding to the new host
Won't that still leave the old one stranded as it expects to be addressed 1) via SSL 2) via duckdns?
Sorry, I'm terrible at networking
If you can access the old one from ip:8123 then no
Usually a reverse proxy is the one adding the ssl to it
aha, yes, I can
well, that certainly changes things
thanks @humble mirage and @manic bane for your patience ๐
Hi, I am trying to install HA on my old laptop. I decided to flash the harddrive of the laptop with the HAOS, but i cannot get the pc to boot on the drive. Any help?
Getting stuck on "Booting 'Slot A (OK=1 TRY =1)'
Does your laptop support UEFI boot?
BIOS is in UEFI Only mode so i would supposed so
@humble mirage https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/homeassistant-booting-slot-a-ok-1-try-1.124289/ more peopel seem to be having a problem with the versoin
Try another version then?
Ive tried 10.1, 10.0, 9.5 all giving me the same error. People seemed to fix it with 8.1 but its strange how i still get this error with even later versions @humble mirage https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/issues/1912
@rugged comet Discord isn't like IRC, you don't have to tag people on every response. Keep in mind that every time you tag somebody, they get a notification ping. That can very quickly become annoying and people may block you.
When using Discord's new Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
I don't run HAOS, there's not point in tagging me
idk just expected some help since you have the mod tag, didnt know i had to be hyper specific about who to ask
You don't ask specific people, you just ask the channel by posting questions
Having the mod tag means I moderate the server, not that I or any other mod are at your beck and call
I have been running HA-core in a docker container on an old office Dell office computer. Recently I have gotten a Synology DS923 and have been considering moving Homeassistant to a docker container on the Synology. I also have a spare Raspberry Pi 3 that I could install Homeassistant OS on. What would you guys recommend?
I'd not recommend the Pi
I would be willing to spend up to 100โฌ on a dedicated SBC just for HA if its better than running it on the Synology.
Second hand PC will be better than any SBC
Is the Synology good enough though?
Probably, I believe DSM 7 can't do USB passthrough though
Oops, now - all of a sudden - the duckdns link is not working anymore
with an ERR_FAILED for the auth page
Presumably you changed something...
ah yes, the DNS rewrite.
Also, if you're using the same hostname then you need to clear the browser cache since it's got the creds for the old HA install cached still
yeah, when I did that it failed but it was the rewrite within AdGuard that still pointed at the old one
love finding the solution seconds after typing the question out and bothering everyone!
though the one thing I can't find anymore is where I set the Mosquitto username/password for access to it
Set it in Mosquitto, or set it in HA's integration?
Set it in Mosquitto for others to access it
If you're using the add-on then it uses the HA user accounts
I am, yeah. I guess that changed too
I created a 'mqtt' user, restarted the add-on, but am still getting invalid login prompts
(and changed the config on the other end, octoprint in this case)
Test with MQTT Explorer or similar
Hello , I'm New here . i need some help to install HA on X86-64 ( ASUS laptop X53S). in bios I enabled UEFI mode and can't find anything about secure boot.
I already flashed a SSD with balenaEtcher. tested in my dekstop Pc and worrking fine. but in my asus laptop no boot media detected .
no, that wasn't it,
but something else! Got it.
i think you need to deactivated UEFI and use Legacy boot
HAOS requires UEFI...
I am still having trouble getting my HA to boot on my lenovo laptop, getting stuck on "Slot A (OK=1 TRY=1)". Here is my boot parameters
setparams
'Slot A (OK-1 TRY-1) โข
1inux ($(boothd) โgpt2) /bzImage root-PARTUUID-843453e3-6d49-4c38-8349-af f6859e82fd Sdefault_cmdline Scmdline rauc.slot=A
Any body seen this before?
What errors?
Well im not getting any errors, just not booting past the Slot A (OK-1 TRY-1).
I tried to another harddrive and i have the same problem.
Could my bios version be a problem? Its rather old from 2013.
No clue. Maybe you could change the boot params so it shows more information somehow
how can i do that
There's usually a shortcut you can issue on the bootloader screen but I only really know this about grub. Not sure if there is one in HAOS' case. Maybe you can change it in a config file of your boot medium. The quiet argument might suppress some useful messages but I'm not sure what args are used by default
Hi, I'm trying to install home assistant as a full operating system on my rpi 4 B, i'm using the imager to flash the operating system. When I give the raspberry power it just goes in a cycle of that normal raspberry boot screen with their logo and a qr code, then into a wall of text, like when shutting down ubuntu. I can see the "Welcoem to Home assistant" text for a split second, then it goes back to dark and later into the qr code screen. I've tried with 2 different microsd cards, anyone got any ideas why this is happening? Nothing shows on nmap, nor the web
Did you flash the right (PI 4) build for your pi?
Yep
Sounds like a power problem
It's showing constant red on the led
But I am using a worse psu than they recommend, 2.0A, but just bare board power shouldnt be that high, right?
I've got another 4, trying it now to see if its a board issue
Well... you're deliberately under-powering it
Well yes, can't get my hands on a 3A power supply today sadly, but I thought it would work with 2A considering I dont have any external things plugged in
Depends a lot on the quality of the power supply and what is connected to the Pi
In theory a Pi 4 without anything connected to the USB ports should be fine on 2A of power, if it gets an actual 2A
But, if you hook anything up to those ports, or it delivers less than 2A to the Pi (which isn't necessarily what it produces from the board) then all bets are off
Yeah other one didnt work either, ill buy a 3A power supply tomorrow and test
Looking for a little assistance with Remote Access. Setting up my 2nd HAOS server and I can't remember how I enabled remote access nor can i find where to. On the original server in System - Network, it shows as Remote Access Enabled with Home Assistant URL and a Network Adapter section below. In the system I am setting up it shows Network Access Disabled with only Configure Network Interfaces. What am I missing here... it's gotta be something simple i missed.
is this done in the configuation.yaml?
Is what done?
That can be done in the UI
However, you need to separately configure port forwarding, your DNS hostname (eg DuckDNS), SSL certificates, etc
I have a static ip from the ISP and port forwarding is setup. I can can't figure out where to enable remote access.
You still need DNS
On the one I have working i have a section in Network that is listed as Home Assistant URL. Where I can set that up.
I don't have that section under Network in the new one for some reason.
Right, but that's not relevant to working remote access
That's purely for HA's integrations to know what to tell other devices/services
I don't need DNS if I am resolving just my IP?
And... you can't get an SSL certificate for your IP
I understand that. I access my HA via the IP and port. I don't use SSL or DNS. Or maybe i don't understand it... but that's how the original one I setup as.
That's ... not sensible
I understand the risks... but if someone snoops in an turns off my lights... it's not a big deal.
There's a reason the Internet as a whole has moved away from plain HTTP
I mean, if you're happy that you're potentially giving anybody access to your entire home network... go for it
Still, to shoot yourself in the foot like this, you initially just need the port forwarded
I understand that... but I am just trying to setup my remote access.
Great, so first step is done
You now have working remote access and a massive security hole
Good luck with that
So where is the Home Assistant URL setting. I don't have it and Network shows Remote Access Disabled. This is what I am asking assistance for. Not to argue safety using encryption.
What does it say, exactly?
Remote access disabled or disabled because config stored in configuration.yaml?
If I select System under Network is shows External Access is disabled.
If I go into Network I have two sections. Host Name and Configure network interfaces.
On my other setup that is working fine it shows Enabled and if i go into settings it has two extra sections. one for the HA URL and another for Network adapter.
And ... did you put your remote access URL in the box?
What box? is i guess my question.
I don't have that option in network. It's missing.

@uneven ember I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
hello there ! is someone having an issue with fresh install on raspberry Pi3 too ?
What problem are you having?
I've started to have issues with latest HAOS/HA versions. Have you tried the older versions? I will be experimenting to downgrade..
@humble mirage this -> Error returned from Supervisor: System is not ready with state: setup
There should be more in the log that'll allow people to help you
Me... I don't use HAOS, don't ask me ๐
@uneven ember indeed it worked with an older version, but I don't remember which one aha
I'll look into it later, thanks for your help ๐
Hello, HA no more supports docker installation on arm v7, according to https://info.linuxserver.io/issues/2023-05-03-homeassistant/.
I use Raspberry Pi 400, with Debian OS. What would you recommend for me if I want to update my HA? Should I uninstall docker version and install Supervised (?) version? But I am not Linux guru. What are other possibilities? Thanks a lot.
Well... that's not the official HA image
If you were to be using the official image you'd have no such problem
(and, if you're not a Linux guru, stay away from Supervised)
https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/linux#install-home-assistant-container
ghcr.io/home-assistant/home-assistant:stable
@humble mirage If I remember correctly, I have installed HA several months ago according to https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/raspberrypi#install-home-assistant-container. Basically, it seems to me the same manual, as you wrote in your post above.
Then it sounds like that announcement doesn't apply to you ๐
Hm, but after trying to update HA via "docker-compose pull", I get error:
ERROR: for homeassistant no matching manifest for linux/arm/v7 in the manifest list entries
ERROR: no matching manifest for linux/arm/v7 in the manifest list entries
Then after googling I've found that anouncemenet about arm v7 and HA. Trully, I dont understand, what it means and how should I proceed.
Or - that error means something else?
What image is in your compose file
Are you asking for this?
lscr.io/linuxserver/homeassistant latest 23e404e2a5b2 4 weeks ago 1.29GB
Ah, so it sounds like you likely didn't follow the official HA docs, since that does look associated with the announcement you posted
hm, but this is official, isn't it? https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/raspberrypi#install-home-assistant-container
maybe I screwed something ...
Should I uninstall and try again? Will I be able to restore my current HA setup from backup?
That link is the official spot yes, but notice the docker image reference is ghcr.io/home-assistant/home-assistant:stable, not what you posted
Oh, thanks, now I see what should I be careful with. I have no idea how I got lscr.io.
Now - if I just change that image resource in config file - can it work? Or I really need to completely uninstall HA first?
As always, make sure you've got backups of everything before making significant changes, but apart from the environment variables on the lscr image for PUID/PGID/TZ (the official one doesn't take those in), the config looks the same.
Oops, the official one does take in TZ, so just not PUID/PGID
Anyway - big thanks to you. That was real help for me, now I know where is the problem.
@main iris I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
Is my Pi possibly out of memory

Mem: 7636 183 5087 0 2365 7331
Swap: 99 0 99

I have no idea how people utilize the 8gb version
No your pi is only using 183MB
183 is either alpine alone or you are in a containerized environment
Well I'm trying with compose now
imho 90% of people should just use HAOS
They mostly do: https://analytics.home-assistant.io/
I've got other things on my Pi
Anyways
Took awhile but it's live now
Had to wait for the compose build to finish
Hello all! Can anyone guide me how to recover my Home Assistant after some update failure? I can not access my Home Assistant anymore after some HACS Alexa media player update and I don't want to install Home Assistant from scratch. Thank you.
Connect via SSH or keyboard and monitor and check the logs
Hi, i need to put a google file to unblock my domain. They need to be at the same level of the login page. What is the path folded ?
HA doesn't support that
If you're using NGINX or another proxy you could have it (silently) rewrite the URL to retrieve the file from /local/whatever - see #general-archived message
THe problem google block my domain name so something wrong with HA where google identify as malicious
Well, no
If that's a DynDNS or similar domain this happens a lot, because somebody else using the same parent domain hosted something bad
can we had a meta into the index file ?
No
Do you use DuckDNS or something different
I quit duckdns for same reason.. So i switch to no-ip and they make 3 weeks and google tag me again
This is a risk for all free DNS providers
Hi can i install home assistant on een Formuler z11 Pro Max en use it as rasberry pi 4
That doesn't look like it even supports Linux
Hi.
[error] Ubuntu 23.04 is not supported!
dpkg: error processing archive /home/kingguru/homeassistant-supervised.deb (--unpack):
Every possible things is prohibiting me from installing HA..
desided to install on my Ubuntu server.. but no..
Debian is only supported for supervised... why not go with the container install?
And... if you really want to run Supervised (you shouldn't) then you should at least read the requirements
I found a guide to run it on ubuntu.. that's why I assumed it worked.
@fallen lichen The reason why I'm a bit hesitant with container is, being new to this world, when looking at the sheet in the installation section at HA homepage, the container version looks a bit amputated
if it didn't I would jump on that in a second.. Have a docker environment running anyway
If you're new to this then Supervised is a massive trap
Run HAOS, or run Container
I'm new to HA, not Ubuntu
Supervised is for when you hate your future self
hahaa
well.. Virtual verision isn't coorporative in ubuntu either.. that was why I started with the supervised
If you're running anything else on that Ubuntu box you're going to have problems
fair enoug
This is mentioned in the requirements, but if you never read them...
didn't even see any mention of requirements
I found them.. and that is a pretty big warning.. ๐ฆ
This method is considered advanced and should only be used if one is an expert in managing a Linux operating system, Docker and networking.
Compared to my mother, I'm a freaking expert ๐
I'll see if I can make a virtual machine running
is there a way to convert a "container" install to a full HAOS install? I installed HA into a vmware VM using the HAOS vmdk linked in the docs, but it looks like that version is actually the container version
settings -> system -> repair -> 3 dot menu -> system infomation shows Installation Type: Home Assistant Container and Docker: true
I definitely downloaded the correct file linked in the docs, but for some reason that is HA container and not HAOS
specifically, I downloaded the vmdk option for vmware from this page: https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/linux
this is the only instance I have, I just set it up yesterday
then something is fishy. there is no VM image for container
I'm looking through the vmdk locally and it looks like quite a bit of it is stuff related to Docker, unless HAOS normally uses docker (I'm fairly new to HA, but not to linux)
HAOS uses docker extensively: #general-archived message
that would make sense then - I looked at the images for some of the other install types and they seemed similar enough
is there someone I could be missing that is preventing me from enabling "Addons" support? when I try to access the addons stuff via a link in the docs, I'm getting the error This redirect is not supported by your Home Assistant installation. It needs either the Home Assistant Operating System or Home Assistant Supervised installation method - and aside from that, I can't find any place to manage/add/remove addons
that's actually very useful, thank you!
I tried a restart and it seems that's necessary.. it's now showing "Home Assistant OS" in the system info dialog and addons are showing up under settings
There's situations under which HAOS reports as Container because it got sufficiently broken
I'm having trouble with an Odroid M1 that I bought after the HAOS 10 blog highlighted support for it, and I'm not sure what to do. It came with an eMMC module with HAOS 10 installed with HA Core 2023.5.1 preinstalled. The guide says I should be able to plug it into my network and get to the onboarding steps, but this unit gives me a "Connection refused" error when visiting the web interface (via the IPv4 DHCP address that the machine received on boot). Same with trying to SSH to that IP. There's nothing obviously wrong when I plug in a monitor and keyboard to the console. Any thoughts on what to start with when the front end onboarding process isn't coming online like one would expect?
Oh, I should also add that I downloaded the latest image (HAOS 10.1 w/ Core 2023.5.3 installed) and wrote it to an MicroSD card and booted off of it, getting the same "Connection refused" error in the browser.
You saw the same IP address you are currently trying in the console?
Yes
you're including the port :8123 at the end?
Yes
ha core logs in the console show anything?
I do see an ERROR stanza saying "could not parse JSON content" referencing the file /config/.storage/homeassistant.exposed_entities - not sure if that's expected or not though as I haven't modified anything in that file (or the rest of the image, for that matter). Later on I do see a WARNING about "unable to set up core integrations" and activating safe mode.
(and the error & warning is identical between the eMMC installation that came from the factory and the SD card that I wrote ~30 minutes ago)
Since I canโt SSH to the system, a photo is the best I can currently doโฆ but I canโt upload one here.
Aha, iOS saves the day with automatic text recognition in photos. Kinda. Itโs not 100% accurate. Here are a few lines from the error stanzaโฆ
23-05-15 11:31:5?.319 ERROR (Synclorker_0) Chomeassistant.util. json Could not parse JSON content: /config/.storage/homeassistant.exposed_entities Traceback (most recent call last):

JSONDecodError: input length is 0: line 1 column 1 (char 0)
(cleaned it up a bit, at least the important bits)
I think unable to set up core integrations and safe mode are more relevant. I don't know what would be the issue if it is going into safe mode on a fresh install
the only lines I get on that is "homeassistant.exceptions.HomeAssistantError: input length is 0: line 1 column 1 (char 0)" followed by "[homeassistant.bootstrap] Home Assistant core failed to initialize" followed by "[homeassistant.bootstrap] Unable to set up core integrations. Activating safe mode" followed by an identical line to the one above about "core failed to initialize"
since it is the same error messages on what I received from the factory, and also from writing a fresh SD card....maybe it's a problem with the image? I pulled the image from https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/releases/download/10.1/haos_odroid-m1-10.1.img.xz for the SD card installation.
@winter adder do you physically swap from SD to emmc for booting? How does that go on an odroid m1?
@drifting thunder docker installation is plain docker. If you have add-ons then you have an HAOS install (which uses docker) or a Supervised HA install (which also uses docker)
I'm guessing it is supervised HA. I see the supervisor countainer running
Photo sharing site and paste the link works
It just works? It boots off of SD if I have it inserted. If not it boots off of eMMC. I can verify which device it uses to boot based upon the versions reported at the banner once it boots.
good evening
i bought one tinker 2s to install AH, do you have any tips to perform the installation correctly please?
Wait a minute, did you design that board Tink
has anyone succeeded installing supervised HA on a OPI (aarch64)?
why supervised?
Hi All,
I've got HomeAssistant running in a VM and NPM running in a docker container on Unraid.
I keep getting this error when I try to go to my subdomain:
400: Bad Request
I have added the trusted proxies and restarted my vm:
http:
use_x_forwarded_for: true
trusted_proxies:
- 192.168.1.55 # Add the IP address of the proxy server (running in docker)
To be 100% sure, that ip address is of the unraid server right?
Is that what it should be?
It's working now but I still get this error when integrating smart things
The webhook URL is invalid:
Well that webhook url is local only
not sure why it shows like this...
add integration > smart things > The webhook URL is invalid:
you should be using a URL with valid ssl
to reach HA, then go to the integration page
I am
so the address you are using in your browser right now is not http://192.168.1.178:8123 ?
Got it! Needed to change the settings on HomeAssistant to the new fqdn
Did a backup with Duplicati yesterday to my Google Drive, all good. Tried to restore today, lots of errors, missing files, red in the logs, as well as the "onboarding" screen. How come? The files are 100% identical as yesterdays backup
As well as the permissions, I'm running HA Core
You missed the hidden files and folders
you mean the "."-folders? .cloud, .storage? They're there
Then you screwed up the permissions
Even if I did, I can set them manually. I've restored to a completely different location, spun up a fresh HA Core-install, point to the restored folder. Still no luck.
What's the errors in the log when you do that?
I've done this many times without issue
I'll give you logs as soon as my restore is complete (trying again..)
Have you restored via Duplicati? Or just plain rclone the files, folders as well as permissions?
I don't use Duplicati, but the basic process for rsnapshot is the same
https://pastebin.com/EcCCdW1G to just name one
Now I'm presented by the lovely onboarding.html

Well done on picking one irrelevant error
You could try actually sharing more so we could help you
So sorry, here's more logs: https://pastebin.com/HzB5P5RB
Start at the top
Not part way through
We need to see what happens on startup to work out what you've done wrong with your backup or restore
Personally I suspect that you're running Duplicati as a user that can't back up all the files iin .storage/
The easy test would be to share the contents of a restored .storage/ before you start HA
(or just what Duplicati shows)
I am not that expert and I need the add ons. I learned add ons can be through dockers but guessing it would required more knowledge
You want HAOS then... supervised requires expert knowledge of, at a minimum, both Linux and Docker
Supervised requires more knowledge than Container...
Hi, I'm trying to install HAOS on an Odroid M1, but after a clean installation I get this error: "System is unsupported because Systemd Resolved is missing, inactive or misconfigured.". There seems to be a github issue about this here: https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/92429. Would anyone know how to continue?
but HAOS is not compatible to OrangePi aarch64, am I missing something?
I try to install Home assist on a AMD 64 machine with 2 LAN ports. The morefine M600.
I added CONFIG/network/my-network
And put a fixed IP address, but when I try to ping from my phone, I can't see my device. And I am stuck at boot saying it can't sync wit the time-server.
I tried to move my LAN-cable in the other port to no avail.
Leave it on DHCP and configure a static lease?
This is my file: [connection]
id=Home Assistant OS default
uuid=f62bf7c2-e565-49ff-bbfc-a4cf791e6add
type=802-3-ethernet
llmnr=2
mdns=2
[ipv4]
method=manual
address=192.168.1.45/24;192.168.1.1
dns=8.8.8.8;8.8.4.4;
#method=auto
[ipv6]
addr-gen-mode=stable-privacy
method=auto
I am not sure where to put the my-network file: hassos-boot/EFI/BOOT/CONFIG/network or hassos-boot/CONFIG/network
Question: I should be able to ping to my static-address or there's a firewall blocking this? For the moment it's just staring in the dark. It seems to me that Home Assistant has no network driver for this system. But how to be sure of that?
I tried configured as standard, so DHCP. But nothing
I can see in W11 my LAN drivers as Realtek Gaming 2.5Gb
Maybe I can find what network cards are supported by Haos?
No support for any AMD wifi or LAN, only Intel
Well, it's Realtek, not AMD, based on what you said
HAOS supports more than just Intel, but if it's a relatively obscure Realtek chipset then a lack of Linux support is normal
The Realtek 8153 is a very common GbE chip, and the 8156 is the higher perf version (typically seen in 2.5Gb adapters). They are different
HAOS is sparse with useful commands but what does ls -l /sys/class/net/*/device/driver and ip a say? You can also check dmesg and lsmod
When I want to install Debian it asks me to install the drivers for the RTL8125
HAOS unfortunately ain't debian though. You could create a feature request in the linked repo to add its driver but the command outputs would still be interesting
Just a note:
To ensure compatibility with Proxmox VE on the affordable NUC-style systems equipped with N-series Celeron processors, it is necessary to install both the Proxmox 6.2 kernel and the new Intel microcode.
not possible to go 2 restarts back to view core logs, is it?
#installation-archived message ๐ Just use homeassistant instead
haha, kk ty
I'm trying to install a custom componet to get my Sonoff Smart power plug sensor working. This is my first time using home assistant and all the tutorials I've seen look different and have buttons that I don't have in my home assistant.
I can't send images in this channel

tutorial's home assistant: https://imgur.com/a/emWYkOY
my home assistant: https://imgur.com/a/E6IgVKd
What's you install method
I'm using it on docker
So, the first image is an add-on, which you won't get w/ container
can you elaborate?
That first image is what's called an add-on within Home Assistant (https://www.home-assistant.io/addons/). It's effectively another docker container running beside Home Assistant itself. Those are available on a HA OS install as well as Supervised
could you link me HA OS or Supervised docker containers that I can use?
not sure which one
They are not containers
HA OS is a full operating system that you install on a device or within a VM
Supervised... well, you don't want to go that route
that's a lot of work, do I really need a HA OS VM just to setup my Sonoff power meter with home assistant?
In the tutorial it says
Only supports Home Assistant installed through HassOS and Supervisor.
didn't know what that meant till now
You'd have to see if there's possibly a Docker image you can use in it's place
You can't use the add-on directly in your installation, but a lot of times add-ons are effectively just a wrapper for another Docker image
I actually see a few on dockerhub but im not sure which one to choose
anyways thank you for your help
Actually maybe you can? Maybe worth trying this
https://ewelink.cc/elementor-18497/# there's a docker section at the end
who can help me figure out how to connect my router to my range extender
doesn't sound like anything to do with HA @tawny turtle
Ya but we can still suggest he go slap whoever suggested he buy a range extender
Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
Try older version of HAOS? Maybe it's recent issue
Also that big is filed in HA/core project, it should really be in HA/operating-system
"Home Assistant OS 10 and newer support the ODROID-M1 board."
Did you follow instructions at https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/blob/dev/Documentation/boards/hardkernel/odroid-m1.md ? @stoic jewel
Thanks for the reply! I followed the steps here: https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/odroid/ - I'm using a SD card at the moment myself, the person who created the github issue seems to be using an eMMC though. I will try to install HAOS 10.0 and try if that works. I can't try an older version since M1 support was added recently.
I installed HAOS 10.0 and there are no issues now. I upgraded to 10.1 from the UI, and there are still no issues.
Hurray, I've got my Home assistant working on my BareMetal AMD64. But I have a problem with Frigate. I am confused where to put the frigate.yml file. THe log file says:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/local/go2rtc/create_config.py", line 23, in <module>
with open(config_file) as f:
FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/config/frigate.yml'
I am new with Docker, I presume that config file should reside inside the container?
Using something like docker composer?
I installed HACS, and now the issue is back, so it seems it isn't an issue with HAOS but rather the HACS installer that breaks systemd-resolved.
That should be impossible, since it's just an integration in HA
@humble mirage - was that in response to my comment about HACS?
Yes
I'm using this command to install hacs: wget -O - https://get.hacs.xyz | bash -
(https://hacs.xyz/docs/setup/download)
I just installed the HAOS 10.1 image again, and there are no issues. I could run the script again to see if that breaks the system again? Is there anything I should check before running the scirpt?
All that does is drop some files in /config/custom_components
If you have a shell on the host (not in a container) you might check systemctl status systemd-resolved at least (before and after the script you think is breaking it, and again after the restart/reboot hacs reminds you to do
It could be that the restart/reboot is what's causing issues, and the hacs install script being the reason for you manually restarting is incidental
(hopefully not, but, yeah)
I just finished restarting after running the HACS script, and the error is back as well.
Then that error would happen regardless
Yeah. It's probably the restart doing it. Some googling suggests there may be issues with the systemd unit not being enabled (though that was from people running Supervised, which is a problem child -- still possibly related)
I'll re-install HAOS and check if I can run that command and see what happens when rebooting the system.
Well, I'd simply reboot a few times
Ok I will, I'll let you know what happens (it'll take a little while for it to re-install)
You are right, on a new install without touching anything after a reboot I get the same error now.
When I do systemctl status systemd-resolved I says (some of the output lines):
Loaded: loaded
Active: active (running)
Status: "Processing requests..."
Under that, there is also a list of errors. This has been logged 4 times (with a different number at the end):
homeassistant systemd-resolved[478]: Hostname conflict, changing published hostname from 'homeassistant' to 'homeassistant9'
homeassistant systemd-resolved[478]: System hostname changed to 'homeassistant'.
Is there something else I should check/try? @humble mirage @fair spindle
Do you have another HA instance running on your network
Because the hostname change would seem ok then. But I don't know why it would happen more than once
Yes, the one I'm planning on migrating to the new device is still running. I'll try turning of my existing home assistant.
You shouldn't need to
When the error occurs, the other things on the dashboard (on the M1) also don't work anymore, like the weather forecast.
You can change the hostname of the M1 instance yourself manually
In the UI go to Settings > system > network
I have a few HAs on the network so I have hostnames like ha-poe, odroidn2, homeassistant, etc
Or you could change the hostname on the old one
Reboot the whole system after making the change
Turning off the other HA and rebooting the M1 didn't fix it, I'll try setting the hostname manually now.
After changing the hostname, the error is gone, and the weather forecast is also fixed!
I did turn the old HA back on, and after rebooting the new HA the error is back again, even though the hostname is different now.
It's still logging "Using system hostname: 'homeassistant'", before changing it to the new hostname.
Even with a clean install, with the old HA turned off, it still doesn't work after a reboot.
@stoic jewel you might also try making the HA home name unique
@stoic jewel have you tried a power cycle? So with the physical button on your server?
@placid sage I have pulled out the power cable and re-inserted it, that didn't work. I also tried starting the M1 without network cable attached, and only inserted it after booting, that also didn't work. I'll try changing or re-installing with a different HA name.
Hey all I have VMware and HAOS anyone point me in the right direction to make it have a static IP
Configure a static DHCP lease
Check your router's settings
DHCP binding
Hi i have 2 zigbee coordinators setup on home assistant one using ZHA which is a sonoff zigbee bridge pro and the other is using zigbee2mqtt and is sonoff usb dongle-p on a 3m usb cable i want to move everything over to the dongle-p but the range on the dongle is nowhere what the zigbee bridge is. the dongle is pluged into the my pc that is running HA in my loft. the bridge in plugged into a wall outlet with usb sockets to power it with is in the room just below the PC in the loft (i live in a bungalow) any reason why the range is different. and no i don't have foil backed celling boards so thats not it. the reason i want to move it to the dongle-p is need to run zigbee2mqtt for a keypad i have for alarmo plus i will put all my kit in the loft on a UPS so if the power goes off 90% kit will still be running including zigbee wifi and internet so the alarmo will still work if the power goes off. just wondering why the rage would be so different between the 2 devises that are so close together ?
#zigbee-archived can answer that better
@dreamy goblet I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
#integrations-archived can help with integrations
After doing a bunch of reboots of the M1, it seems like the most of the time systemd-resolved doesn't start properly, but randomly it will just work some times (I'd guess around 10-20% of the time).
I'm changing nothing while it's started up, just triggering the next reboot.
When it works, the forecast card on the homepage will work, the error will disappear from the settings menu and the observer will change to Supported: Supported.
what does this mean while trying to restart please? ```
config # ha core restart
Processing... Done.
Error: Unknown error, see supervisor
running latest HAOS
Did you check the Supervisor logs, like it said?
in ssh, where are those pls?
2023-05-17 21:12:42.454 WARNING (MainThread) [homeassistant.bootstrap] Waiting on integrations to complete setup: hassio
That is the whole log... ๐ฆ
it will not get past this... What can I do? Reboot host?
While installing Home Assistant Core on a fresh RPi I get the following after "pip3 install homeassistant==2023.5.3"
ooking in indexes: https://pypi.org/simple, https://www.piwheels.org/simple
ERROR: Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement hass==2023.5.3
ERROR: No matching distribution found for hass==2023.5.3
Does anybody have a clue where I went wrong?
That's what I did, with one exception. My last attempt was "hass==2023.5.3" instead of "homeassistant==2023.5.3". But none work. So far for the core docs. Any clue other than "Core Docs" would be appreciated.
Is there any fsck one can run on a HAOS installation?
Reboot of host booted Home Assistant, but ha core restart never finish...
and just because I wrote that it did, but took about 5 minutes
@humble mirage: spot on!
apt-get install python3 did not install python 3.10.
apt-get install python3.10 does a better job
At this point go with 3.11 or docker
Just update to latest version of home assist and now the supervisor is down, if I go to: Home Assistant observer the following is the output.
Home Assistant observer
Supervisor: Connected
Supported: Unsupported
Healthy: Unhealthy
What are my steps now?
Raspbian doesn't seem to have python3.10 package yet. I'm stuck at 3.9.2-3. Going for alternative option...
Isn't raspbian abandoned? Probably a good idea to use another OS or upgrade it somehow. Otherwise look into pyenv or, as you said, look into alternatives like like docker
This is a question about running two HA "servers."
I have my shop thats about 300' from my house, which currently houses my Pi 4B powered HA server with the Argon One m.2 case running off a 128gb m.2 SATA drive. Right now, it handles EVERYTHING for both the house and the shop. The shop has a RPI Power Monitor that reports the data to the HA sever via influxdb then with fancy yaml i have my sensors for power usage for my shop. This HA server also has a skyconnect and zwave adapters for some of my sensors and locks in the shop/
My thought is setting up a second one in the house, have my other RPI power monitor report to that one the same way i have it done in the shop, and have it handle the house sensors and such. I would also need to again have a sky connect and zwave adapter since the ones in the shop obviously wont reach to create the networks necessary for those devices using those protocols in the house to work.
Is this necessary? Will they communicate and share data "seamlessly" with some work, plug in, add-on, etc? Is there a better way to add thread/zigbee/zwave to the house?
Please dont bother saying don't use RPIs, thats not the advice im looking for. I have 4 extra 4Bs sitting around, so theres no cost involved in obtaining them. I've had them since before things went bonkers and prices went nuts.
I don't know if zigbee etc can talk to more than host? (why would you need it?).
What communication do you need/expect between the two nodes?
I have zigbee in my shop, 300' away from my house
my zigbee lock at the house can not communicate with the zigbee "hub" in the shop due to distance
You could prolly do a powered repeater?
Where would the repeater go? the middle of my backyard?
300' is right at the upper end of what (outdoor) zigbee could do. Do either of your devices have a "long range" setting?
Maybe with an external antenna?
no. They are battery powered "smart" locks by Kwikset
the hub is a USB dongle on my current HA RPI server in the shop
i also have tons of trees. I'm in the sticks. 5 acres.
I'd actually be interested in long range something, my driveway is like 1300'
If you guys come up with something, but might wanna move it to #zigbee-archived
i have ONE small clear shot i made to connect the internet from the house to the shop using Mikrotik Wireless Wire
If you have network connectivity, maybe you need a LAN-based coordinator rather than pure zigbee network?
I'm not sure what you mean (sorry im still very new to zgibee/zwave)
Nah thatโs not gonna solve anything dude
If he has an eth coordinator at the end he can't talk to via zigbee, then adds that to HA, he will be able to see two separate zigbee networks, one at each end.
Thereโs no official good way to link two home assistant instances together and 300ft zigbee is not happening
Thereโs a hacs integration to merge two hass servers
Thatโs probably his best bet
I saw that, and figured IF i was going to go the route of two, thats what id use
All the zigbee/zwave stand alone hubs im finding bassically rely on some other company's cloud service. I have the USB dongles specifically to keep everything OFF the internet
You could also use ser2net on a pi to send zigbee data serially to another device on lan, assuming you have internet out there
I donโt see why a hub would be helpful?
I was looking into hubs as an alternative. Again, the shop, 300' or so away is where my HA server is, with the sky connect and a zwave dongle, my house, currently has no access to zwave/zigbee/thread beacause the server is in the shop. I need zgibee/zwave both in the shop AND in the house
I thought you said you had wireless/network between the two (just not zigbee)?
The shop and house are on the same network via Asus AX86U (house)+ MikroTik Wireless Wire + AX86S (shop)
Wouldn't adding something like https://tubeszb.com/product/cc2652p2-based-zigbee-to-ethernet-usb-serial-coordinator/ to the "far" LAN, and connecting that to HA via ethernet effectively create two zig networks, one at each location?
(the ethernet version of the coordinator)
Thatโs what I said with ser2net
I need to stop talking to you guys, and go back to studying. My exam in 1 hr :/
Good luck
tx
So what would that involve?
Thereโs some guides on the forums Iโve never done it
Would ONE HA server (sorry if im using the wrong terminology) be able to handle multiple zigbee/zwave adapters?
Basically but I think it requires z2m only not zha- this is more a #zigbee-archived question
well I need zigbee and zwave anyway. More so zwave because the zigbee door locks have been a bust for me
Donโt buy august or Schlage zwave locks then
Kwikset is solid
Frankly Iโd setup this differently in your shoes
Not two hass instances
Just buy specific hardware that could be used such as Wi-Fi or doing the ser2net thing sending data back to the other side running hass
I have Kwikset locks. I had zigbee, but they wouldnt pair with the Skyconnect module. I swapped out the adapters to zwave and they paired up with HA perfectly
i have the 916s
Cool
by doing that i'd then be limited to wifi only devices. I'm trying to NOT have wifi divices
Hence the or -
Why does it take so long to prepare home assistant after install?
installing lots of packages
Ah, makes sense. Wait, then why in the hell is the .img 6GB???
Also, if I restart the device running HAOS during the preparation, what will happen? Just in theory. Not that I did restart it. I would never do such a thing.
it should just continue, I think
The storage device makes a big different. It takes forever on a RPi with an SD card, but less than minute I think with a real PC with SSD
Makes sense why it's so slow since I'm on a mid-2011 Mac mini booting from a usb stick I got for free at microcenter.
Hi, im trying to install HAOS on my lenovo thinkpad laptop but its not booting past a certain screen. Getting stuck on "Booting Slot A (OK=0 TRY=0)", i have disabled secure boot and UEFI Only mode is enabled. I have flashed the harddrive directly with HAOS 10.1 using my main PC. Any suggestion to get past this screen and get HA to boot up?
Hi, I have an issue with the database. I need to reset it, what would be the best way please?
I have tried deleting it, and restart, but values were still present in controls (input_datetime helper)...
The database is for history only
Deleting it won't change HA's ability to remember the current state
The XY problem is asking about your attempted solution rather than your actual problem.
my god. i give up have agood one never the less
If you took the time to explain the problem, it'd be easier for people to help you
its impossible to delete wherever the values are stored I take it then?
It's possible
I will gladly, thanks
You just have to mess in parts of HA that may break it for you
And it probably won't solve your actual problem
I have this automation in which I was trying to set date and time to a helper. This didn't work at all, despite people kindly tried to help. When I later tried to do it manually, really frustrated then, it didn't work either. So It must be something with my system. Database was my first guess...
I have backups if that should be neccessary
Ah yes, I saw you refusing to share the code you were having problems with...
Deleting your history/saved state won't fix the problem
not refusing... didn't have time before he got mad
But... hey, if you want to fuck it all up again, have fun in .storage/
You always go out of your way to make it hard to help you ๐
so sorry for that. it is hard to have a will... ๐ฆ
I will look through .storage then. Thanks...
Good luck
Hi! I have just installed HomeAssistant and so far everything is working fine, well... Almost everything! ๐
I would have liked to be able to connect my Raspberry in Wifi, however, my dongle does not seem to be recognized... It's the TP-Link tl-wn725n.
How can I install a driver or any other action that will allow me to disconnect my RJ45 cable from my box ๐
You can't. And running a server on WiFi isn't a good idea anyway
OK! At least this way it's clear! ๐ Thanks ๐
I installed HA on docker, opened up the ports on the windows firewall and also on the main router, I can access the HA but can't login because the authorize page isn't loading, anyone else encountered that issue?
Docker on Windows isn't supported - many integrations won't work
This seems unrelated though. If you must use windows, run it in a VM or see the windows docs for supported installation methods
Yeah, I'll try the VM, thanks
docker on windows? why do you hate yourself
So Tink I need help on my install on my Rpi
1.13 is the version but nothing is working
Clearly you forgot I trolled you with this earlier
Eh... I see sooooo many ||not going say it|| that I forget sometimes ๐
1.13 is the first one I used I think
./giphy say it
But I did just get 10.0 loaded now I see 10.1
It has been 0 days since the last ||insert name here|| incident
I was using 6.0 till I borked it
Then I find out maybe I should read breaking updates, then realized support been dropped for the b+
Bahahahahahaha
installed on Ubuntu 20 (on windows 11, WSL), everything installed correctly and exactly the same issue, can reach the UI but authorize does not work
also, two of the VMs I downloaded didn't work for some reason, the VMWare player says the vmx is corrupt
My PI installation was broken by what I think was the forced security update a while back (stopped working the same day at the very least), finally got around to looking at it,
Output reads as
Home assistant cli not starting, jump into emergency console
Looks like the containers are not starting
Only supervisor and observer are running
docker start $(docker ps -a -q -f status=exited)
seems to have gotten me the ui back
says no updates are available however, which I find hard to believe as its been powered off for two months
System is not ready with state: setup
Clean Ubuntu 22 (on Windows 11, WSL) followed the guide and everything seemed to work until I go to localhost:8132 and get navigated to auth/authorize
nvm - fixed
hi guis, i have a big problem. Today my home assistant broke down. I can't do login. It says "Error: Somethings went wrong". Somebody can help me pls?
Can you connect a keyboard and monitor to it (assuming it's running directly on a machine)?
yes, the machine is running but it doesn't give any error message at the home page
Type core logs
it says "The system could not validate that the sqlite4 database ad //config/home-assistant_v2.db was shutdown cleanly"
Don't worry about that line, which didn't say sqlite4, that's just because you didn't stop it cleanly
Ah sorry
Another line says "Enden unifished session (id=2049 from 2023-05-18 20:50:38.294269)"
Same
there are other lines but are only info
Try in incognito mode?
I have a dedicated windows mini PC that I'd like to install home assistant to. I previously set it up in VirtualBox, but this solution has been awful as it constantly goes down and I have to manually reset it. What is the best option for running this constantly and only for HA?
If the PC supports it just run HAOS directly on it
I was under the impression that there are limitations when running HAOS. Am I mistaken?
yeah it limits the pain you experience with HA
'limits'
ya if you are comfortable with docker and prefer "full control" then sure run container, otherwise just run haos and be done
I have been trying to run a container, but I'm new to this and not sure how to set it up. I found the installation guide very confusing.
Maybe sharing my intended use case may help make this decision.
I have mostly google home smart devices and things like hue, ecobee, and SimpliSafe that I'd like to integrate into home assistant. Will HAOS work for this use or is docker the best option?
HAOS will work for anything that the other install methods will
HAOS is for something that "just works" as opposed to have to manage everything yourself
also HAOS uses docker
any install where you have to manage docker and you're not a docker expert is a bad idea
I've got 25+ years using *nix and I stay away from docker for the most part
Well idk about that
I haven't sat down and taken the time to learn it yet
it's on the agenda
but I mean I come from old school linux/unix
If youโre still using jails in 2023 thatโs kind of crazy
so it won't be hard for me, however that's not the issue here... I'm just drawing comparison to my experience level in linux
Ok so I think I will just start with HAOS and go from there. Just to clarify that I'm in the right place is this link where I should start?
https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/generic-x86-64/
if you're going baremetal, then yes
Consider utilizing Proxmox to maximize the potential of your "mini PC".
I will look into this as well. Thank you!
there will be a learning curve with proxmox, just be aware
Good Day All!
I was curious if there is a supported/maintained helm chart for kubernetes installations?
Unless you know enough to know different, use haos
Sorry that was to older post
Which youโve all been talking to since..,
Hello, I would like to know if someone can help me? I bought a hub from the manufacturer Dusun, the model is DSGW-210, it came from the factory with errors and the manufacturer does not give me answers.
Answers to which question(s)?
How can I make the system default and see if that can work?
It won't let me go to any tab. and the operating system is installed in the emmc memory that the device brings
Hey I have a 30gb SSD, is this enough for ha OS?
yes
I ran a Ubuntu flash drive using etcher to install x86 ha
But it stalls at 27
Ui freezes
You could try the built in "Disks" utility instead of etcher. See if the same thing happens
Thanks, trying now
Use the restore option, and then choose the .xz file
Lol it seems the install happened in the background
And just the UI froze
It's a hp elite book, and now I found a comment on YouTube saying the same
Ah
So if it happens to someone else too, this is what's going on
So now this laptop is constantly showing a command line for the ha server but I'm curious is it possible to run other things from it while the server is running?
It's basically an unused screen that is always on, trying to see if there's a way to make practical use of it
Nope
Thanks
You can unplug it from the mobo so itโs not on
I run haos on a laptop that had a bad screen and keyboard so I removed them. It sits fully closed running 24/7
Sounds good
Iโd be concerned with 30gb of space tho
Gotta automate backups and deleting old backups so they donโt make you run out
Plus I wouldnโt add like influxdb with a long retention time for historical data
Why
To make use of the screen and other hdd
Hmm maybe that's a better question to ask first
Any way to make use of the HDD the laptop has?
I unformatted it
I guess you might prefer proxmox
Not yet
I'm not a noob just the first time I run a native install
Had virtualbox up to now
But it broke
So now my choices are to stick with the sdd and run low on space, as well as have a 1tb drive just sitting there
Or just use the HDD to install ha on it
Hmm, is there maybe an add-on that can see the additional HDD?
I'm thinking of making it a Nas basically
Somehow
No installing any os on an hdd is a terrible idea
Proxmox installed directly is an option but honestly 30gb is just too small man
Agreed
Is it a newer laptop?
Intel cpu? What gen?
i5
Frankly laptop as an all purpose NAS isnโt my favorite idea
Not mine either but the other choice is to let 1tb just sit there unused
So I'm willing to compromise, if you know of any way to make the ha see it
Cogneato anove said not yet so I guess theyโre bringing support for additional mounted drives later
You can read docs and patch notes for 10.1 beta and see if itโs added there and test it
I can work with that
Oh okay
Thanks!
Donโt thank me yet it might not be in there lol
It didn't cross my mind to read the patch notes๐
Hi, guys I am pretty new with home assistant ,... I am trying to get supervised in my rasberry pi 3 ,.. I coudnt find anythin properly ,.. can some one help me ??
Hi folks, I mistakenly configured wrong internal url, now cannot access HA, how can revert through SSH? Not remembering HA config file for that. Thanks
The internal URL is just what HA tells other things, it doesn't change your ability to access HA
Unless you did it in YAML and broke the YAML
already was able to recover from the issue, however I'm noticing that is picking up old certificate, despite no changes have been made
have fullchain.pem & privkey.pem on /ssl folder
any ideas for this behavior?
Check in incognito mode
in incognito mode is where I see it's picking up old certificate
Did you check the certificate on disk to ensure it's the right one? Did you restart HA to ensure it's loading it?
have two different behaviors. 1. Using Edge to access https//ds.rks.pt:xxxx doesn't open login page, however the certificate is valid and correct one
Do you have a proxy server involved, or is it all direct to HA?
- testing on incognito same link, opens login page however with old certificate
it's all in HA. Using NginX
fishsticks
hi, I'm having issues with my install - almost certainly user error. I can't navigate to local:8123 and I'm pretty sure it's because I'm not using the right command. any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated!
What if you try the IP (and port) instead?
Also, if you configured SSL then you have to use https://
I'm in the ha cli and tried local.8123 and ip:8123 to no success - and I barely have any idea what I'm doing. is there a certain command I need to use or just ha> http:?
In the CLI?
You need to use a browser
Once completed, you will be able to reach Home Assistant on homeassistant.local:8123. If you are running an older Windows version or have a stricter network configuration, you might need to access Home Assistant at homeassistant:8123 or http://X.X.X.X:8123 (replace X.X.X.X with your โs IP address).
Refers to using a web browser, not the CLI
I figured but I was following the install instructions and it said boot haos and that dumped me into the cli
Yeah... the docs possibly could be a touch clearer
agreed. okay, I'll switch to browser. thanks!
Hi everyone. I'm struggling to install HA on the yellow following the instructions that come with the kit. Specifically, once I plug in my USB stick with the installer on it (from Raspberry Pi) imager, plug the ethernet cable, then plug the power, I don't see the yellow LED flashing as it should. Only the red and green LEDs turn on
I was following these steps: https://yellow.home-assistant.io/power-supply/
And STEP 10 is where I can't get the yellow LED to flash
#yellow-archived can probably better help
hellooo, im running ha through proxmox and im getting the following logs at certain points in proxmox (usually a few days). today iw as asleep when this happened, but i believe the same thing happened 2 days ago. the whole system hung for a significant number of minutes, and when it came back online, my other vm (opnsense) was working fine, but ha stopped responding and the vm needed a restart. does anyone know wtf the log here is telling me:
or uh, based on the little reserch ive done about it, it seems like it might be an issue with the drive im using? (which i would more than believe, its an old hdd that wouldnt spin up at one point, but seemed to be working fine as of late)
can someone confirm that this is whts going on?
I would say the same ... lots of failed/timed out commands to sda
just got a fresh install and logged into it via another pc but got this error: Last logged: 21:23:19
/store return code 500
time of the log is the moment of logging in. anyone have a clue? (running a generic x86 install)
can you get to the console with a keyboard and monitor?
yes
soz for the delay, I can.
try 'core check' or 'supervisor info'
The first one didn't take
Info yielded sine basic status
What an I looking for?
Don't know if I can paste it
don't use the ' '
I didn't
healthy: true
would be a good thing
wait
that first command should be something else, I'll edit it
had a brain fart
Wtf Imgur won't let me upload images? I can dm
Anyway, says healthy: true
Just ran core check.
Command completed successfully
I should also mention another error right at the time of the first one: Can't read Supervisor data:
Checking
supervisor info was ok tho?
Observer says all green
Yes
still unable to login your.ha.ip:8123?
No, that works fine
Never had issues
It's just an error in the logs, with everything else running smooth
I just don't know what it is seeing as the install is fresh without stuff added
Well, it did add my router and onboard BT device
well the reason I asked I got the error as well but it was because the system was first starting up
but if you can login and all is good with those commands I Wouldn't worry about it
im still setting up my fresh install (again mind you)
I've been using it since like 0.99, so I have lots of experience installing LOL
actually I just looked it up, since BEFORE 0.99
so maybe it's a one off
Hello, I have a school project about Home Assistant and got some idea but donโt really know how to properly do it:
Expose the smart home devices to the internet in a SAFE way to connect to a linux cloud server where Home Assistant is installed. ฤฐs there maybe someone who can give me advise on how I can do this in a safe and good way? Shortly: Connect devices at home to a Linux Cloud server (vps) that way ฤฐ dont need any hardware like a raspberry pi or dell wyse at home.
Thanks in advance
Too vague but a SSH tunnel or tailscale would be my suggestion for now
and you would still need a device to create that tunnel from...
like a raspberry pi or dell wyse
unless the router can do the tunnel/vpn
Guys this is crazy talk wtf
You should be explaining why running hass in the cloud is fucking retarded
whenever I talk, it's crazy talk
I get yelled at for crushing dreams immeadiately
@hexed vine You kinda need something to connect the networks. What's the reason for having HA on a cloud server rather than at home?
I'm guessing the OP would like to demo the use of the devices without having to lug the house around
but for this you could just use the companion app
shrugs
Might be good ol' XY
So the point of my school project is being able to shutdown HA through a cloud server so that the customer I install this HA system on could not access HA for example late payment
Thatโs what my teacher wants me to try doing but ฤฐ told him it would be impossible to do so ฤฐ wanted to ask you guys maybe for an idea
gross
ฤฐ have a dell wyse at home, is it then possible to create a tunnel throught that?
So my device connects through my dell wyse to the cloud server? ฤฐs that how it should work then maybe?
Yea..๐คช
if you're selling it commercially you cant call it home assistant (i think)
Well that's allowed
but remotely logging in and killing a working (local) system is fucked
Either way, yes you need a device to tunnel with
There is a Belgium company that does the same but with Loxone for example
That's kinda what they do when they shut off your modem for example
The point is that ฤฐ should be able to kill their server when the so called customer does not pay on time
no
Like your internet provider can do
that's not the point
When you stop paying your bills they can just shutdown your router right
that's into getting sued territory
no longer allowing it to communicate with your servers, sure go for it
logging in remotely and disabling shit, fuck no
This isn't a legal advice discord tho, it's HA
You got any idea how ฤฐ could possibely do that?๐
ฤฐs there something at the forums maybe i couldnt really find something
Block a port in a firewall? I have many ideas, but dunno what you have
ฤฐ have shelly plug and shelly light
HA running on dell wyse currently but ฤฐ got vps at digitalocean
Well If HA is running on the VPS you just block the ports the devices connect on
Maybe mqtt, maybe something else
ฤฐ just expose my shelly to the internet then
Well no, you'd need a tunnel
So my thought process is if you have a device that tunnels to the VPS, just block the tunnel access
From the on-site device that makes the tunnel
Which can be done from the VPS using a firewall
So letโs say ฤฐ install HA on someoneโs house
ฤฐ need hardware like dell wyse on their home
If you're doing hosted access to HA yes
Connect that to the vps that way ฤฐ can block the acces
My teacher said something like for example
Connect your shelly devices directly to the vps
And make a remote acces on the vps
Thats moronic
Yeah ikr
Tell him I said so
Hahahaha
Thatโs what ฤฐ said
Crazy stuff
I hope whatever he is smoking is a controlled substance
๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Well our project is somewhat completed he just wants to add stuff
Like useless things idk
๐คทโโ๏ธ
I've always been an overachiever
Generally there is precious little left once I'm done
Maximum effort.
no worries. I have many moons of experience in networking lol
HA is just .... different
but the network, I can make work
this is why SSL works locally for me and not most users:P
Hello, I am currently trying to install home assistant onto proxmox. I am using linux qcow2 installation and I followed this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beo7pnKLEC4&t=653s
I am currently at the web UI and I am getting an error saying
23-05-20 00:27:51 WARNING (MainThread) [supervisor.homeassistant.core] Error on Home Assistant installation. Retry in 30sec

I am currently using a netgear router. So far I have tried restarting home assistant. Setting the dns to 8.8.8.8 on home assistant and Setting the router dns to 8.8.8.8
what's the best way to install Home Assistant Supervised?
You are searching the best way to have a worse homeassistant?
there is a command to disable dns fallback, I'd give that a try
ha dns options --fallback=false
also try ha resolution info
@amber patrol https://github.com/home-assistant/architecture/blob/master/adr/0014-home-assistant-supervised.md <-- check that document and see if you still want to run it
hey guys, not sure if this is the right channel but whenever i try to reload all yaml stuff, despite the yaml checker saying it's all good, i sometimes get this type of error and i have no idea what it's trying to tell me?
"Failed to call service homeassistant/reload_all. TypeError: 'NoneType' object is not iterable"
it pops up in the bottom left of my screen for a couple of seconds then disappears, but i don't know what it's for? does anyone have any ideas?
Check your log and also run a full config check outside of the UI
To check your configuration use the command for your install method:
I tried running ha core check and I got an error saying unexpected server response. Status code 500
It appears that I somehow enabled the supervisor
Is there a way to disable that
you're using HAOS, so you're using the Supervisor. You don't enable or disable it
in any case, I would disable IPV6
Ah ok, sorry I guess I am just confused.
It appears to be disabled by default on my router.
Sorry for the ping, I forgot to click the button to have the reply not ping.
How simple would it be to migrate HomeAssistant from docker in unraid to a dedicated Lenovo M710q? In an ideal world I would love to have them failover, but that isnโt 100% required.
There's no failover support in HA (but you could do it outside of HA)
Migrating is just a matter of copying the config folder
Well failover isnโt happening unless you use kube or something
just copying the config folder seems to easy, lol. What would be the preferred way on installing on a device like this if Iโm moving from docker?
Do you want to move to HAOS, or keep using Docker?
Proxmox is the popular choice
Debian + Docker FTW
I don;t mind how it is configured, Ideally i dont want to install windows then docker, just because of the overheads, Iโve seen people use kubernetes, and proxmox, but i have zero knowledge with these. HAOS keeps it all in one place, and I supppose that would make sense since I currently have a couple of docker supporting Ha. Like mqtt, influx Nodered etc.
Yep haos is a great option if you donโt want to manage it all yourself
Well, nobody should do Windows for a server
You can setup the Nextcloud backup addon to auto backup to unraid running Nextcloud
I guess that moving to HAOS from docker would be more involved if I wanted the other services moved over too?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcqZhPLVTiQ Im sorry, I am full on struggling getting this installed. I am using proxmox on a physical server. I have plex and other vm installed with normal ubuntu and windows iso. But I have never installed a qcow2 vm. I followed the HA site guide and it kept doing a boot loop like there was nothing on the disk. I followed the guide from this guy and it is stuck on booting from hard disk for the past 10 minutes.
Depends on what else you want to move over, each is something you'll have to handle separately. Some may be easy, some may be more work
I tried with and without ipv6 and I am still getting the error[supervisor.docker.interface] Can't install ghcr.io/home-assistant/qemux86-64-homeassistant:2023.5.3: 500 Server Error for http+docker://localhost/v1.42/images/create?
Thanks im going to follow this guide now
oh wait you are still having issues im gonna wait i guess
Ok, this may be super basic, and I'm just not getting it. I'm trying to install HA on a VirtualBox VM on MacOS 10.15 Catalina. I followed instructions, but when I load the VM it just says "Booting 'Slot A(OK=0 Try=0).
some have trouble with current haos, some have trouble with current virtualbox
try a different haos/virtualbox version
Would you recommend going backwards on VB or HA first?
replacing VB version on macos schould be fairly easy
Thank You! Going to give that a try.
@humble mirage WOW that was too easy. Thank you
I just got an HP T620 Thin Client for use with a couple other things (Network Controller software and pi hole). It has 64gb flash SSD and 8GB ram and I'm going to put Ubuntu on it - will I be setting myself up for problems if I also use it for Home Assistant?
No. I'd virtualize (I use proxmox) if you're open to suggestions
Totally open. Basically no experience so I don't have any bad habits to clear up ๐
You can also just run HA on ubuntu in a docker container but you won't have addons this way and supervised install is very much not recommended. Virtualizing allows you to use the machine for other things while having HAOS inside a VM. I also just really love virtualizing
Personally I'd do Debian + Docker and no VMs
But, if you want HAOS and also stuff that's not an add-on then you've got no real option other than VMs
Sorry for the lack of investigation on my part, what what kinds of functionality do add-ons provide?
They're basically custom Docker images for HAOS
You can install and configure them all in the HA UI
But... you can only use those. If you've some software that's not available as an add-on then you can't run it
If you like appliance style setups than HAOS is great. If you like flexibility and freedom then ... it's really not
Thanks for the information. I don't really have anything fancy in mind right now but I can imagine as I explore more I'll catch the automation bug haha
Is there a guide for installing home assistant onto a pre existing debian system?
Thank you for the link.
Hey guys, if I wanted to get a second hand mini pc purely for ha stuff, would a 256ssd be enough? Or should I go for a 512 one?
What do you plan to use it for?
I used a 256GB SSD for a long time for a lot more than HA
So I've already got one that plex and all related things run off, so I won't need anything like that
So for now it'll just be a ha computer then, but not sure if I'll want to run anything later down the line on it that I can't run on the plex one for whatever reason?
That said, I don't know what I'd want to run anyway other than ha
256 would be fine if your backups are off-machine imho
Suggest proxmox native is a good option with haos as a vm. Makes installing other stuff on the box super easy. Haos itself isnโt so flexible
So I've only ever used Windows for everything - how easy would proxmox be to get up and running for a newbie and transfer my existing ha instance over?
There are some good guides. Ha itself is a one liner
Proxmox is 99% web interface once you get it installed
That doesn't sound too bad
Yeah, I've just used docker for Windows a few times now and it's the worst thing ever, so I've definitely been scarred from it, so anything easy is always a win ๐
Hi, I bought Dyson pure cool link and found this HA to control it from my iPhone, and am having trouble with installing HACS on HAOS with intel CPU macOS.
I have read and tested this #installation-archived message
And checked there are no issues with context of dns.
issues:
- context: system reference: null

Iโve used both TerminalSSH add-on and AdvancedSSHWebTerminal add-on.
Does anyone have any ideas that might fix this problem?
I am new to this kind of development tools and I may have missed something. Please let me know.
Oh my god. I just went through nslookup for each domains (get.hacs.xyz, and github.com, and other domains that wget returns as a bad address) every time wget returns as a bad address, and after a few nslookups and it worked!

Hey guys, I found a mini pc I like the look (and price) of - is an i5 6500t a good enough CPU if I want to install ha on a vm? As far as I understand it, it needs a bit more power than just installing ha straight into it?
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-6500T+%40+2.50GHz&id=2627
Pi4 scores around 900... you'll be fine
Ah perfect! I wasn't sure how vms handled themselves but that's good to know how much more powerful it is!
Is that an m910q?
No, elitedesk 800 g2
HP ๐ฆ
Is that bad?
The company? Yea
How come? Should I wait for a different computer to be on sale?
A lot of us server guys donโt like their server gear nor the company itself. As far as miny pcs goes the Lenovos are pretty nice
Did you find a used one going for super cheap?
It's fine.... people will complain about almost any company
They're not making junk stuff, like Tuya ๐
Yeah, I found a cheap hp - cheaper than anything else atm
Ya itโll be fine, doesnโt make hp not suck or better options for similar price not exist tho
How much is it?
Yeah, where I'm at there doesn't seem to be a huge supply of second hand mini PC's for cheap and from a semi reputable place
Uhh, sec, let me convert it
What country are you in?
That definitely plays a big part for reseller
Oh shit
You guys just gotta take what you can get
Thatโs a steal tho
I know right ๐
Thanks for your help. Going with an older version of VB, I was able to get it working.
I've been keeping an eye out for a while and this finally popped up today
There was a lenovo m700 that popped up a little few weeks ago for like $50usd but with no ssd, but I didn't see it until it was too late ๐
So now that this has popped up, it seems great ๐
Yea
16gig ram?
M.2 ssd or at least a slot for it?
Not really needed for hass just nice to have
Are you virtualizing hass with proxmox?
8gb
Ah thatโs ok you can upgrade it
Not sure yet - I've heard good things about proxmox but I've only ever used Windows before so it'll be a learning curve
Ah dude just jump in and follow a tutorial or watch a few YouTube videos itโs a lot to learn but all the actual steps are simple
Yeah, that's the plan
The docs are good but itโs just a lot of words
So atm I've got haos set up on a vm on my Windows pc - is proxmox a similar thing where it'll be haos, or will it all be containers and docker?
Proxmox is a Linux distro for running VMs
You get a pretty web based UI to manage your VMs
It works better than Windows + VBox
Youโll basically setup proxmox and then backup and restore haos to the new vm and youโre running
But from what I've heard, installing... Add-ons? Is different if you're using containers, right?
Are you choosing not to use haos as a vm in proxmox?
But with proxmox it'll just be the exact same process sort of thing?
Yeah, without HAOS you install software yourself
But if you use Proxmox you're using it to run HAOS
Sounds like you should stick to haos not containers
Yeah perfect, I life the idea of using haos
You'd be a special kind of crazy person to run Proxmox just to run a VM to run Docker
Well I was just double checking proxmox still ran haos and it wasn't forcing me into containers or something weird ๐
A lot of people do that cuz they prefer docker over lxc
I've had to use docker for Windows and hate it with a passion, so would do a lot to avoid it if I can ๐
Proxmox runs ... whatever you want
Docker on Linux is nothing like Docker on Windows
Well docker for windows hates itself
So I've been told ๐
It truly was a terrifying experience though and I'm glad I never have to touch it again
But yeah, moral of the story then is it looks like I'll be using proxmox with the computer and just copy everything over then
Hopefully it should be easy enough
You can prepare now by reading docs or watching a few videos
Yeah, I might do that
I'm glad this pc popped up though - it's the same price as a raspberry pi 4 over here when we can get them in stock!
can home assistant run on a raspberry pi 1
Core can, but not well
That's... to put it gently ... an ancient and underpowered platform
i tried but it doesn't work
HAOS, or Core?
?
HAOS isn't supported on the Pi (OG/Zero)
You can pip install if you've got a working Python 3.10 install
But you should put the Pi back in the drawer and use something that's not such a potato
i used the pi imager
Right, and the option there is for the Pi3 or newer
yes
because i have no other use for it
This is not a good use for it
