real-time would be best but could settle for every X minutes
But, quite possible with a proper router software, I've done that with *sense for decades
Opnsense is the go to these days
Its quite pricey - was looking for something at a consumer price point comparable to a "normal" router
Looking for Zigbee Plug with Power Measuring preferably from Amazon for <£13. Don't mind the Tuya ones but all I can find are WiFi versions. Uk. And Slim enough/ short enough to fit behind a washing machine.
Buy the tuya one on aliexpress: https://m.de.aliexpress.com/item/1005003444957152.html
Oh uk sorry
Dunno if theres an uk version of it
Maybe that helps: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/supported-devices/#e=power
Can anyone recommend an alternative to the Slimmelezer? Its been out of stock for a long time now
Thanks lad. I ordered those about 5 months ago and they came as Wifi believe it or not. Because I'm impatient I'm not looking to spend half a year waiting haha
I‘ve ordered this exact article a few weeks ago (to be precise i ordered them two times) and they are zigbee and work really well with zigbee2mqtt
The second time i ordered them they needed a week to arrive, that was awesome (Germany)
A week from China to Germany...?!
Yes, send as flight cargo
Hi, I am new. I got a Raspberry pi 4 and successfully installed Home Assistant but I can't get it to recognize any hardware I plug into it. I have a Sonoff Zigbee USB 3.0 dongle and a Deconz Raspbee II neither of which I can get HA to recognize. Thanks.
Yes, nothing I plug into the USB ports or GIO seems to be recognized
System>...>hardware
Yes
new here 👋
Is there someplace I could talk about NUC and what some viable options are? Is this the place?
Yup
lol thanks
alot of the Intel NUC prices are all over the place, how much power do you really need?
Been seeing some stuff on ebay thats closer to 60-100
Zotac with FX-7600p 2.6ghz and 4gbs of ram
Intel N4000 with 4gbs as well (though its double the price)
HP T620 FX-230CA 2.0ghz with 4gbs
don't really know much about he NUC world and what to particularly look for in that manner. Would have gone pi 4 but those are also impossible to get so figured this was a better/cheaper (weird right?) option
Most x86 PCs from the last decade should be fine for running a normal HA setup. Raspberry was a decent first option when it was cheap, but with the current prices it's not worth it. Used laptops could be a good option too, even one with a broken screen
the ebay listing for the Zotac doesn't include an SSD so that's a bit extra cost
thats true, is there cheaper options that would do just as well, or at this rate, spending around 80-100 is a good average
would you pick the Zotac of the 3 mentioned?
I just assume that if a Pi can run it, all of these should have no real issues in actual practice, more so preference and availability
Intel N4000 is pretty damn slow so I would probably skip that one. The HP I didn't check
But you're right with that assessment. Basically anything is faster than a RPi. Just more power consumption
thats fair, maybe worth looking into that Zotac more I don't mind spending a few extra bucks for a SSD (might even have one laying around).
I appreciate the help!
Actually one more question are you looking for more Ram in this use case? Saw another Zotac Zbox AD04 that looked okay, but only 2gbs RAM. Not sure if its a better choice than the FX-7600P
HA will use less than 500MB iirc (maybe someone can confirm?) for a normal setup. So it depends on what else you plan on running on it. RAM can usually be upgraded for pretty cheap though
ahh good point on the upgradability, totally skipped my mind
I am still learning excatly even my use case for HA will be, but I know people also use some motion addon's etc.
Goal for me is really to centralize all inputs as the expandability of my smart home continues. Maybe its not even needed, but long term would love to have a central visual control panel (ie: Fire Tablet or iPad) and from what I gather HA is needed for that?
For camera stuff you'd love to have a Google Coral. And the USB version isn't available so having an extra m.2 slot would be great
I don't even know what that is lol, I really need to do more learning
Is it an AI toolkit?
Yeah does the AI recognition stuff so your CPU doesn't have to
Pretty sweet, don't know exact use case but intrigued for sure
Would anyone have a recommendation for cheapo vibration sensor (RF, Zigbee or ZWave). It would go outside (in principle cold, but covered from rain) to check if my Somfy covers are in motion. I am in the EU, but don't mind importing from AliExpress.
I'd like to pick your brains on a 433mhz controller. I've got a RPi4b running HA with a Raspbee IO shield installed. It's in a fairly central location in my house. I currently have one device that requires 433mhz signals to trigger. I
have been looking at wifi RF units, but the tuyas aren't supported in HA (got one of those) and the broadlink seems expensive for just that. I remember reading about USB sticks somewhere.
Anyone know which one would be a good purchase?
I recently got an rfxcom RFXtrx433XL -- a little box on a USB cable, with an HA core integration. I'm picking up InterTechno RF remotes and sending commands to the corresponding plugs all around my apartment (say 10 m range, across a couple of brick walls). Same for controlling the SOMFY blinds. It's picking up some neighbours' temperature and smoke sensors across the floors, but I don't know where it's coming from exactly. But those are proper structural walls of a 6-storey building. If you need to for a beter location, you can plug into any rpi, not even your HA machine, and just run a serial to network device (ser2net) to send across the data.
Thanks! That sounds like a solid device. I'll check it out. Core integration is important, i want training and automating to be carefree. 🙂
Oh, that was quick - it's around 100 EUR which is a bit much for how much I intend to use it right now. I'm looking for a bit of a lighter version of that.
I have looked through this channel. Can anyone confirm that the Shelly Plus 1PM works with home assistant as the other relays does?
I have some shelly 2.5 that works great but i see some github issues regarding this and i want to make sure the Shelly Plus 1PM ia supported.
Let me know if i am asking in the wrong channel.
hello, I'm pretty new to HA, and have been searching for this, but cant seem to find an answer so im going to ask you guys, as hardware seems like the right place.. Is there a way to customize devices by the model? i have quite a few devices that dont show the correct options, for example motion sensors that i have to change the entity to be a motion class. i would like to do it for all of the devices of that model. Thanks!
@maiden root That might be better in one of the other channels, but I don't know which. More of a software thing I think.
Usually it needs to done on the device itself. Cases where i resolved this issues are Shelly devices and deconz devices where you enter the firmware of the devices, so they report properly back. However sometimes it's done closer to home assistant.
I think there is a way to reclassify entities but the device will not give the proper data back for the state if something underlying is in the way.
What devices are you specifically talking about here?
I have several, the ones I am most interested in are the Zooz recessed door sensor (which shows up as a CentralLite 3320-L) which I have to reclassify to a door, and the SmartThings Motion Sensors (motionv4) which I have to reclassify to a motion.
I have reclassified the entities for the couple i have moved into HA, but i have a bunch and would rather have it work right off the bat based on the model number
Yeah thats Z-Wave right? If so maybe try the #zwave-archived . I have not tinkered with that protocol my self or their eco-system / ha integrations.
door sensors are zwave, and the smartthings one is zigbee
Through what integrations in home assistant?
the Z-Wave JS integration and the zigbee Coordinator. both off of a Nortek Usb adapter
I have deconz myself. I guess you are using zha. If so you can try looking at the cluster attributes in the zha configure menu. Have tried it a bit but i use deconz which have their own UI.
hmm, ok I'll take a look at that and see what i can figure out. thanks for the assistance.
Hi, I have a garage that is not from a common brand.
http://www.icontrols.ca/pulse-500-direct-drive-dc-operator/
There is in the hardware diagram a OPEN, CLOSE, STOP wiring
I was thinking if I buy an ESP32, connect to the internet and send a OPEN OR CLOSE signal that would work xD?
I tried doing an rflink radio using an ESP32 on the cheap, but in the end the noise was always pretty bad and I never managed to get a good enough signal to receive or send. There is clearly some electrical engineering to do there… there is a cheaper version of the Rfxcom device (433e I think), which doesn’t have the support for Somfy.
Hey! I have a Rpi3b+, HA OS.
How does the HDMI detection work? Do I need a core restart after plugging in the HDMI speaker? (Samsung sound bar)
Any recommended online vendors in Canada for Sonoff hardware? Specifically looking for the zigbee usb dongle
is anyone here with a working shelly plug integration, with recent firmware and current HA release?
I’m running an RPi4, and currently have the Zooz S2 stick for Z-Wave. However, I also have Zigbee devices in my house. Should I replace the Zooz with a single Zigbee/Z-Wave dongle? Or simply add a Zigbee dongle?
I would add a Zigbee dongle.
Hey guys, Im looking for a way to stream music to my speakers. think about it as making my speakers work as a "sonos speaker" so i can stream music to them and control it from home assistant. I was thinking about getting Chromecast audio but since google is not making it anymore its hard to find them. Does anyone know about any other hardware that can easily integrate with HA and will allow me to stream music to the speakers i already have? ( so i dont have to go and buy those sonos speakers, they are cool but i have much better speakers already)
Does anyone have any recommendations for which protocol/hardware I should use in this scenario? My parents want some temperature/humidity sensors for various rooms and the garage on their property in France. They currently have nothing (but like my Aqara sensors). The property itself isn't too large, but the exterior walls are 40cm, stone, brick, and render and the garage is approximately 20m away from where any Home Assistant device would be installed. I'm debating Zigbee vs Z-Wave for the garage sensor. Down the line they'd also like a weather station but I'm very happy to tell them they're living with 2 dongles if needs be 😂. Their budget is naturally a shoestring, but with their birthdays coming up I'll happily spend decent money on kit that will actually work.
Did you already look at DLNA and other similar integrations? https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/#media-player
Nope that's why im asking for help, how can you stream to a speaker via DLNA?
Well, my approach would be something like a Raspberry Pi or other similar small computer.
Any posts or something about it? so i can see what people did before? maybe a tutorial you know?
Not off the top of my head. But try searching here and the forum to see if other people have asked and answered the same question perhaps? Maybe someone else will have a good recommendation!
yeah i've been searching for couple of days know, couldn't find anything that's why im here
Snapcast would be my suggestion
I am using it myself, works very well, you can use rapsberry pi zeros normal pi, lnux and windows pcs or android devices as clients
You can feed aircast, spotify connect and many different other sources into the stream
Its a multiroom audio solution, if you dont need that you could use something like volumio on a raspberry
Anyone else have any suggestions on a NUC for HA? Something off of ebay preferably since prices are through the roof on Amazon.
do you have more information about it? how to use it? what is the quality of the stream with a pi? how to connect the pi to speakers? is that a hat ? any information will help
@stiff hull , this is prob a good start
https://github.com/badaix/snapcast
Hello all! Newbie here with a background in linux administration / cloud "devopsy" stuff. When I enable the ikea/tradfri OTA updates via the config (and restart HA), what exactly should I expect in terms when the updates happen? Does it happen only when pairing, periodically.... I'd love if someone could point me to a doco
(or maybe I should just roll up my sleeves and read the source)
And I should specify, this is a ZHA specific question... I thought that the link on their website was a ZHA discord, not the general purpose one, apologies!
And I just found out that ZHA is a HA mainline component 🙂 Reading the source now
You can still use a regular chromecast from google and then get an HDMI audio extractor. Yes, it is another piece of hardware and $25 more but works very well. i have a bunch of them in use since google stopped making the chromecast audio which was dumb on their part. https://www.amazon.com/J-Tech-Digital-Extractor-Converter-JTDAT5CH/dp/B00BIQER0E/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=1FWELG0NABT55&keywords=hdmi+audio+extractor&qid=1648604157&sprefix=hdmi+au%2Caps%2C186&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&smid=A2IX3RNQE846HA&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExNlBWRklIUENJRTM1JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjUwMzAwMzM1WElZVVk0TTg4NyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNTU4MjMxMUExMFRHTVJOWjVWMiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
Found the doco: https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy/wiki/OTA-Device-Firmware-Updates
Is there a downside to WiZ lights or something? Trying to figure out why they're so much cheaper than other color bulbs.
Yes, they work with WIfi
What's wrong with that?
I don't have any zigbee/z-wave stuff yet so I don't know what upside it has over wifi lights, asides from each device extending the range.
Which doesn't matter much to me.
Default codec is FLAC. You need a snapcast server that you feed with different audio streams, can run on a raspberry. Then you have to install the client software on a client like an other raspberry (on the same pi is also possible). The speakers can be attached through hdmi, audio jack (not recommended) or an audio hat.
Yea, I don't see anything other than power draw and star vs mesh topology that would make any real-world difference between zigbee and wifi.
Zigbee is fully offline and guaranteed offline too. You have a coordinator and that’s what talks to HA
That sounds useful but not worth the extra price to me.
They're not that different in price to wifi ones, plus if you ever get sensors (eg motion or temperature, etc) then zigbee is the way to go
I ordered zigbee sensors for my window/door sensors and a zigbee zen thermostat already.
And I'm going to order zigbee thermometers as soon as I find ones that look decent
At least the WiZ lights don't need an online/cloud connection, too.
Compared to other wifi lights.
The aquara ones are good
Then you should go with zigbee lights too, without routers zigbee will probably not deliver a decent experience
Probably not quite how you are imagining it, but on the software side I would recommend piCorePlayer, as a client for Logitech Media Server, which you can integrate quite seamlessly into your HA world. Then what you need is some hardware to sit on the network and output to the speakers. I have a bunch of rpi's with IQAudIO cards -- you can get one with a built in amp, to really just connect to speakers, or e.g. analog/digital output to connect to an amp which is in turn connected to speakers. Depends on what you have already/need.
I have a bunch of cheap (~5-10 EUR) Xiaomi Mi temp/humidity sensors all over my house. They are bluetooth, so if you wanted to integrate them to home assistant, you'd need a BLE radio (I use a ESP32 in the middle my house, but you might get away with a USB dongle at the HA machine). The advantage is that you can add them to an app on your phone, so for the non-techies, you can read the temps without any HA at all, if you are at home.
My parents are techy enough to look on their phones for the temperature, and I was going to give them a small touchscreen display on their Pi (with an SSD because I'm not evil), that they can use to see everything.
hey all, I have a dimmer switch on my wall that reports as two different entities through the local tuya integration: a binary switch on/off and a brightness range (0-255). Because they're two different entities, I can't add a light entity that allows for both a brightness setting and an on/off toggle. When I add the light entity to lovelace, the on/off button just lowers the brightness. Is there anything I can do?
Did you look at the template light? https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/light.template/ That's one of the #integrations-archived that could solve your problem
Ooh
That is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
Hey, what wifi socket do you use for home assistant?
I'm not sure I understand the appeal of HA sockets/outlets. If it were still 1980, where dumb appliances can be turned on and off by cutting power, sure.
Turn the tv on, turn the (box) fan off... can't change the speed though.
Today, it makes absolutely no sense at all.
If I were automating a table lamp or something like that, I think I'd put the module in the lamp itself, so the automation follows the lamp itself.
Anyone else see that there's a new Aqara motion sensor coming out that has configurable timeout?
Seems like there's a not so new contact sensor too which has configurable distance:
https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/30/aqara-p1-door-window-sensor-arrives-5-years-battery-life/
Maybe just not available in the US?
Because it's easier, cheaper and more ecologically sound to add remote power switch capability to a device like a pc monitor than scrapping it and buying a new one. Even if you could find one that has this capability that is compatible with home assistant.
I use it to turn on/off all my guitar equipment when I pick up my guitar. Saves me from having to plug in 5 things every time I want to jam
Hello everyone. Just arrived, in HA, I come from an installation with X10 and activehomepro. I have mounted my HA on a NUC, with debian, and I have managed to make my plug and shutter modules work, from the text commands within linux, with the typical mochad, and if now they work for me with command line type <echo "pl a11 on" | nc -w 1 localhost 1099>. But now I don't know how to integrate this in HA, to be able to have the buttons on the screen, and above all to play with other sensors... I know that someone will already have this configured, so I ask you to explain and guide me. Thanks.
Sounds like you might want to look at the shell command integration
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/shell_command/
Can anyone answer a Shelly1 question. Can the Shelly-1 detect a change on the dry contacts and send that change to home assistant? I have no experience with Shelly, this is my first.
Anyone know if its possible to get a bluetooth dongle working in hass on a nuc, running HA OS
Ok Scott.
I read, but I don't quite understand. Could you help me a little more?
For example. I have this code that allows me from the linux command line to open shutter 11:
echo "pl a11 on" | nc -w 1 localhost 1099
How do I integrate this?
Also I think you should probably be using another channel. Probably #integrations-archived
That integration I pointed you to is how you would run that with HA
the problem is that I don't know how to do it with HA, mochad is already an integration in HA but, I don't understand how in the end my command line in linux: echo "pl a11 on" | nc -w 1 localhost 1099
it transforms into something you can use inside HA, with a button, for starters... and understand how!!!!
In my confi.yaml, have put switch:
- platform: mochad
devices:Room1 # Persianas Salon
- address: a11
name: Persiana A11
comm_type: pl
- address: a11
And exposed shell command
shell_command:
raise_blind_11: echo "pl a11 on" | nc -w 1 localhost 1099
To format your text as code, enter three backticks on the first line, press Enter for a new line, paste your code, press Enter again for another new line, and lastly three more backticks. Here's an example
Don't forget you can edit your post rather than repeatedly posting the same thing.
For over 15 lines you must use a code share site such as https://www.codepile.net/ (pick YAML for the language) or https://paste.debian.net/ (pick YAML for the language).
You also want to ask for help with integrations in the #integrations-archived channel
I have an N-DROID 2 with HA installed on it. I'm trying to figure out if a USB Bluetooth adapter is working correctly, and I'm not sure how to go about doing that.
I know it worked at one point, I have a couple of devices show up in known_devices, but am struggling to get another to
Hi guys, I wondered if someone could help me a bit with my project. Is there a way to display a specific room from the dashboard on a connected epaper display? (inky)
Ok, I’ve got a fun, random problem I’m hoping someone can help with. I recently moved homes. In the process, I lost track of a Aeotec z-wave trisensor. The problem: it’s made it to the new house. It reports on my zwave network - but I cannot find it to save my life. Ideas? Can I use signal strength for hot/cold? Any easy ideas? 🙂
I got the N-DROID2 that came with HA installed on it. I've tried reading through the product description (https://ameridroid.com/products/odroid-n2-home-assistant-blue-bundle-limited-edition) but it doesn't really spell things out for someone who is new to HA. Is HA installed in Docker? What is hass? I'm trying to get things configured but am not sure what instructions I should even be following. Sorry for what I'm sure is a dumb question
My info panel has the following: Version core-2022.3.7
Installation Type Home Assistant OS
Development false
Supervisor true
Docker true
User root
Virtual Environment false
Python Version 3.9.9
Operating System Family Linux
Operating System Version 5.10.103
CPU Architecture aarch64
sorry for not putting that in a code box, I saw the HassBot give instructions for that earlier but I'm not sure what character a backtick is?
Your install method uses Docker
You're effectively at the tail end of https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/odroid#start-up-your-odroid and can proceed with Onboarding. The #installation-archived channel can help there
Great, thank you
I've got a few things set up, it's just that anytime I find something new I want to implement it's difficult to know which instructions I should be following
What type of NFC reader would you recommend for this use case: I would want to enter a room in my house, use my smart watch to scan the nfc and then log that in home assistant and perform actions accordingly
Does the smart watch have an NFC reader or an NFC tag?
oh yea that quite an important question 1 sec
its a galaxy watch 4 I think 1 of the 2
it does have a reader tag bc it has google pay
Then the first step is to find out if it can be read by an NFC reader
Your phone likely has one, just install the required app
yea well the watch is still on the way but I was already speculating what things I could do with it bc I wanted something so home assistant could now what room who is in
If it runs WearOS then there's the companion app
and I read you cant really program the nfc tag on the watch, just use apps
#android-archived can tell you all about the companion app
Ikea motion sensor or Sonoff motion sensor? I know the Ikea has a longer cool down time of 3 min, in comparison to the 1 minute cool down on the Sonoff, but is one more reliable than the other?
The Sonoff Zigbee sensors have been pretty well panned, there's better options than either of those
I was so let down by the sonoff motion sensors. Way more false positives than any other PIR motion sensor I've used
The Develco MOSZB-140 is the best (Zigbee) motion sensor I've got, by far
It's chonky, but it has a temperature and light sensor - both of which report independently of motion
Neato
I think the Hue one does the same as far as independent reporting of those conditions
Unlike the Xiaomi ones, which only report light with motion
The only Xiaomi/aqara stuff I have is a couple of water leak sensors
Their door/window sensors are great. The temperature/humidity sensors are ok. The Zigbee 3.0 light sensor is pretty awesome.
The motion sensor is meh
The leak sensor is way better than the Tuya one
I like my linkind stuff a lot
So long story short, the Ikea motion sensor would be better than the Sonoff one despite having the longer cool down time?
Less bad
R.I.P
Let me check the Develco MOSZB-140...
On another note, I've never heard of them? Good brand?
They seem to be, though I'm not sure if they're the OEM or a white label of another brand
Yes
Though, if they think that's mini, I really don't want to see what they think is medium, never mind large
😂
So it looks like they manufacture/provide the sensor to a company called "Frient"
If you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase yours?
Oh...wait...I found it on Amazon. $32 is a bit steep though. It does much more than the Ikea though...
Are you in the US by any chance?
Me? At the moment, no. But I have family that can bring stuff over.
Hoping to move soon though...
Gotcha. I'm in the US and can't find that motion sensor on Amazon which is why I asked 😄
Might not be available here
Yeah heh
So the Ikea is still my best option. Anything close the price of the Ikea, that's better?
Depends on where you're at in the world
AliExpress also a good option to find stuff if you don’t mind waiting
Well Sonoff devices are about the most popular smart home brand in South Africa😂 I have met very few people here who know what a Google Home Speaker is...
Problem is (SA being a 3rd world country) I can't have anything shipped to my house, because customs is just too unreliable. It's not a matter them taking a long time, they literally just loose your package.
So anything that can ship to the US is a valid option. It's wort noting that I am only buying a single sensor. It's a long story.
Is it possible to make the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 work with Home Assistant? I saw some BLE config but custom hardware was used
Any recommendations for a door sensor for HA?
i'm looking for a small display to use with a Pi.. i only want it for output, so no touch needed
and i don't want HDMI.. i want to be able to just program exactly what should be sent to it.. like SPI? SPC? what's it called?
wifi? zigbee? z-wave?
I2C? maybe that's what it's called?
hi depends on what you are looking for? I saw something Xiaomi BLE on the HACS store, and recently found monitor for presence detection https://github.com/andrewjfreyer/monitor
I was able to get the Xiaomi Mi Scale 2 working with BLE
But not yet the Band 6
I have seen a lot of displays by waveshare (i think it's on aliexpress and various pi supplies) ? not sure if that's what you are after?
which integration are you using for the scale - i assume you are after fitness data from the band?
Yeah health data and sleeping patterns
If I'm sleeping there's automations I'd like to trigger
ah I'm not 100% sure though.. sorry :(, but googling got me here:
https://github.com/JamesMcCarthy79/Home-Assistant-Config/blob/master/config/packages/fitness/README.md
looks complicated to set up though (and hasn't been updated) - might want to search within HACS to see if there's anything..
Not sure if that'd work with the Band 6, as that one mentions the Band 3
yeah someone in a reddit post says it worked with a Band 4/5 .. sorry don't know anymore.. maybe someone else can help 🙂
So I had problem with my HA using SSD to USB into my Raspberry Pi 3 Model B (not +).
Just unstable and wierd experience using HA. Worked fine some hours.. then just totally failed on me and wouldnt start.. and then it could come back again eventually.
The SSD worked fine on my computer last time I used it. And did some tests on it and it seems fine.
Went back to my SD card and now it runs at least stable again.
Is it a fact that you cant run an SSD on an Raspberry Pi 3 model b just using Sata-USB cable into the USB 2.0 slot? I guess you need external power to the SSD?
I’m interested to add cameras and was thinking to try Frigate for detection but it seems like coral m.2 is not really available. Was thinking reolink but what is the most popular ? And if coral not an option what is a good alternative for image analysis?
good morning.... I've seen some BT temp sensors that might be worth adding to HA. Is there a guide on how to do this using ESP32s? or maybe a BLE USB adapter?
Wifi would be better suitable for me, thanks for the reply!
hi for ESP32s check out ESPHome and this link here:
https://github.com/atc1441/ATC_MiThermometer (there's also probably a couple more youtube videos if you google xiaomi temperature humidity sensor home assistant and the like
There also seems to be a couple of integrations in the HACS stor if you are trying to use a BLE USB adaptor
Hey looking to run a new instance of Home Assistant off a raspberry pi, I believe it's a 3.0. How much storage space would be appropriate for the install? 32, 64, or 128gb? I know the install it self isn't but 2-4gb just want to see how much space integrations and modifications might take up. Also should I stay away from sdxc A1 cards opt for an A2?
nvm just looked up the space and people mentioned even 16gb is more than enough just need to know about the A1 vs A2 class
what would you recommend?
There aren't any other storage options for a raspberry pi are there?
SSD/HDD via USB
Hello HA users. Looking for some help with restarting the networking from command line
i'm running home assistant OS 7.4 and made a few changes on my OPNsense router. HA was the DNS server and networking has stopped on this VM
Just starting out with HA, buying some sonoff wifi not zigbee devices. Will HA be able to auto discover them?
I researched a bit and there was a couple of repos on github helping with that without flashing. I really dont wanna go down the flashing thing honestly.
Is there any new ways to connect it to HA using the stock firmware? in HACS? or as in an HA addon?
I dunno. My flashing experience with sonoff (iFan04) was painless. I recommend it.
The plastic case popped off very easy, no locking tabs broken. The serial port was unpopulated, but it was enough to stick a 1x4 header into it, and the weight of the cable leaning against it kept contact.
And now China can't use my metadata to try to decide when to launch their Red Dawn invasion or whatever it is they're up to with their shitty cloud software.
It might vary in how difficult it is to flash with their various products, I've only done the one so far. But if that's like the other models, it's doing to be dead simple. You should go for it.
What do most people use for 240v dryer on / off sensor? Electric clamps, shock sensors.... Sense Energy Monitor?
I am planning to use zigbee smart bulbs even in hallways. I am curious to as if these switches can be made to ignore physical inputs, or is it a matter of simply not wiring physical switches into the box? (can it even operate properly if you don't wire the physical switch?)
My ideal setup for these switches would be:
Wire with physical switches, but have a HA toggle (input_boolean) to disable/enable the physical switch aspect
The device I linked is just an example, I don't care which zigbee switch it is as long as it gets the job done 🙂
If you can flash tasmota, I think that all can be made to ignore the physical switch. Or even have it disconnected.
If I want to craft on budget smart assistant, so that I have full control of my devices, can I use those Google Nest products or are they too much tied to Google services?
I'm struggling to give assistant a voice
can someone help me with mounting a external hdd as a media location
(my config is hassos on an intel nuc)
i need a step by step, since i couldnt make the udev rule one work for some reason
#installation-archived would be the channel for that
There's a guide on the forum AFAIK, but it's not supported
ah thanks
#installation-archived is the channel that can help you with that (do please read the topics in the channels)
hey guys do you have a recomendation for a cam? requirements on my part would be POE, big angle (180° or automoving and movement detection), indoor and if at all possible not too costly?
@unborn igloo Please DO NOT cross post. Read the channel description, post it and wait for folks to respond. Crossposting wastes people's time as they're unaware of the help you're getting elsewhere.
If you don't get any responses after an hour or more, and your message is no longer on screen, it is fine to re-post or post a link to it.
You picked the right channel first time
I am using emporia vue clamp
No idea about most people though
Has anyone tried the Aeotec multi sensor 7?
Folks in #zwave-archived probably have
Is that my best shot at find out about peoples' experience to know whether they are any good?
*finding out
Yup
Been thinking about a weather station for 10+ years, came across this project: https://www.pcbway.com/project/gifts_detail/Solar_Powered_WiFi_Weather_Station_V3_0.html but I'm not sure that design works for me, close to sea and it never rains from ska sky, always sideways and I'm thinking PCB will get wet and stuff dies. Are there any recomendations for using with home assistant ?
Hi, I got a bunch of these: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/TS011F_plug_1.html#tuya-ts011f_plug_1
They work great except that the current power is not being reported, at all. It is detected as _plug_1, not _plug_3, so I shouldn't have to configure anything else, right?
I want to try setting measurement_poll_interval but I'm new to Zigbee2MQTT and have no idea how to do that
#zigbee-archived would be the channel that you wanted
I don't think it's a general zigbee issue, probably
I did manage to figure out how to configure that property and set it to 30
But the energy is reported as None in HA and looking at the zigbee2mqtt logs, those values are null in the JSON
{"child_lock":"UNLOCK","current":null,"energy":null,"indicator_mode":"on","linkquality":null,"power":null,"power_outage_memory":null,"state":"ON","update":{"state":null},"update_available":null,"voltage":233}
But anyway I'll try there as well
Can I ask RPI questions here?
Depends on the question 😂 is it hardware related?
I'd like to know how to run HA on a SSD on a RPI. I don't know where to start.
How do you like the overall Emporia integration with HA?
Hey guys, short and to the point - anyone have Sengled Zigbee Smart LED bulbs that blink every 3 seconds and don’t connect? Can’t find anything online about this status code
3 blinks typically mean it’s ready for pairing. Might be best to ask in #zigbee-archived
It only does this for one one socket in my house, newer sockets its happy with. Is it possible it's not getting the correct input?
Just frustrating I can't find documentation on what this particular code is
the gotcha would be SD cards have a short life span. I am kind of kicking myself for going the SD card route a couple of days ago. USB SSD would be so much better. But with the RPi 3 I don't think you can boot off of USB directly (you can boot from SD but run OS from USB). With RPi 4 you can load a firmware that lets you boot directly from USB.
Now I have to see how hard it will be to move my existing setup over.
I didn't even need to flash the firmware; just take out the SD card, attach USB SSD with HAOS burned to it, power it back up. Wait a bit. At the "let's get started" screen click "Alternatively you can restore from a previous backup."
Upload backup.tar and wait a few more minutes
💥 it just works
I spoke too soon. ZHA is no longer working. The integration is up & running but Zigbee network is not coming up anymore. Can't reach any devices.

It's hard to follow but did you get this working? this used to work but stopped awhile ago for me after an update:
https://marklewis.blog/2021/02/25/home-assistant-bluetooth-speaker/
Hey,
I am getting a Shelly Relay and I want to know which type of wire to use to connect it to a garage controller
(updated in #zigbee-archived but this works now... I wish I could explain why it broke and why it's working again 🤷🏻♂️ )
Anyone who could link me to a good pi 4 for HA?
I’m in the US
I have a high budget and am wanting to get the yellow in the future just need something to get me going.
Hello, does anyone know some good devices with generic input/outputs that is connected directly to the pi over USB or something? There are some io expander modules https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/mcp23017/ but all of the integrations say that they will be removed.
Pi4 is pretty near unobtainable right now through legitimate means unless you're looking at less trustworthy sellers. Good luck to you!
Use an old laptop or something like that
or a refurbished office pc (dell optiplex sff/micro).. much more bang for buck
Hi, I haven't succeeded in moving from the old zwave integration to zwavejs, I think because the old setup does not have a network key. My devices show up but are all dead. Anyone know a fix?
#zwave-archived can help with that
I will post there, thanks
hey there,
What kind of tablets/screens do you use for dashboard?
Is there a purpose build harware for that?
they just use a lot of power
Then something like a hp elitedesk g2 800 mini
Throw an m2 coral accelerator into it an no need for an yellow anymore
anyone know some good smart dimmable light switches? looking for something thats $15-30 each and integrates well with HA. wifi is preferred but zwave also works (canada)
should i just get a bunch of tuya dimmers and install tasmota? or is that not possible anymore
idk if the OTA bug got patched since its been a while that i've used tuya stuff
Anyone implemented LoRA with home assistant, saw some cool projects for mailbox sensor 🙂
Hey there,
I like to start HA for a full house setup (10 electric roller shutter, about 20 switches and probably more things like outdoor lights motion detection what's not).
I really struggle to settle for my lighting setup. Iam a bit afraid that WiFi devices like Shelly's are to much for my WiFi. Therefore I though about settling with ZigBee. However, I miss a roller shutter. For light switches I though I could go with sonoff zbmini. But I am open for other suggestions.
Oh iam located in the eu. So no Wemo Thread switches or whatnot
Can I use my Ikea hub as a zigbee hub?
Hey. I have this garage door controller:
I want to add Shelly Relay. There is a wire in the Stop. But I can plug in the open and close. Any recommended wire gauge or wiring setup?
Wire gauge is determined by the current load, if you're talking low voltage, you could use an Ethernet cable, which gives the advantage of multiple signals and twisted pair
I don't have ethernet cable 😦
I think its low volt what would be a corresponding gauge?
18 or less is good for low voltage
Anyone have a good light sensor? preferably pollable. I have the aqara motion sensor with lux, but it is just not working for me...
I have lutron and thanks for the info
how often does your lutron refresh
Inside home assistant?
yeah
Looking for any ideas on how to get car mileage into HA every time I start the car preferably. Not sure if an odb-ii wifi or bluetooth adapter could be read with ESP maybe?
I don’t think it refreshes a lot
http://icontrols.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Pulse_InstallationManual-2021-September.pdf
Check page 11, the garage has a 24v and recommends a 18gauge wire
You can always do a mix of wifi & zigbee for whatever works for you, zigbee is the best for motion detection & other sensors. Your wifi should be able to support another 20 devices and if it doesn’t then you should look into that too
hello there, maybe someone can recommend a dashboard hardware to me? 🙂
We need budget/ your country. But a cheap android tablet is what people usually use
well, I can spend as much as resonable. I am located at Hungary
I would like to sink ot into plywood. It is hard to do with an android tablet
Then you’re looking at something a lot more complicated than just what everyone else uses
And is an important note to include too
that what I meant by purpose build harware by. Sorry I was not specific enough
cheapst is probably a tablet
Most people just mount a tablet on the wall
Thanks @proven girder . I just wonder that there are so many WiFi roller shutter but no ZigBee ones.
Why do you suggest that ZigBee is especially good for sensors?
By roller shutter do you mean blind controller?
And zigbee is low power usage
I have electric motor rollers outside of my windows. They are currently controlled by some.wall switches with an integrated timer (old school). I want to snartify them
There's pinned messages in #zigbee-archived that include controllers
Gm All. Pretty new to HA, coming over from not so Smartthings. I have added some devices and am trying to set up an simple automation using the "motion-activated light" blueprint. When I go to create the automation, the motion sensor I want to use is not in the drop down. I have 2 motion sensors added rn. The first is an Aeon Multisesor 6 (this one shows in the list) and a gocontrol PIR sensor (this one does not). Can anyone point me in the right direction or to the right channel?
#blueprints-archived can help with blueprints, and #automations-archived can help with automations
If you share a link to the blueprint I'm sure people can help
Is this a good spot to ask about device management? My USB device driver can't be opened by zwavejsmqtt but I can see it in terminal
Thank you!
Yes, I have 3 in my house at the moment.
Thanks for the reply. Is it safe to say that there is noting in the device config/options that would prevent it from showing up in the list? I will post over in #automations-archived but I wanted to rule out anything with the motion sensor itself first.
speaking in Smartthings lingo, I was wondering if it needed a different device handler etc
Are there motion sensors that can also tell you directional data? like if I put one in a stairway, could it tell me if someone came up or went down?
and are they supported in HA
I'm aware of one, very new one, nothing else
ah
Presence events: "enter", "leave", "left_enter", "right_leave", "right_enter", "left_leave", "approach", "away"
is there a way I can automate the effect if I got 2 sensors?
Probably
I don't feel like itd be that hard to get working
also I run my HA in a vm on linux. is there a cheap but decent zigbee/zwave hub that is just usb?
Yes, see the pins in #zigbee-archived for Zigbee advice, and see the #zwave-archived channel for Z-Wave device
The challenge you'll have is the blind time
perfect ill probably get the ConBee one
Oh no!
Havn’t you read the pinned questions in #zigbee-archived
yeah
it said that only the conbee ones were supported
the over ones where probably a bit more than I need
They’re exactly what you need
If you want a cheap one, get the sonoff zigbee 3.0 dongle plus
do you think I would need a usb extender for that?
You need it for any Zigbee coordinator
Well, half the point is to move it away from the computer to reduce interference
The other half is to avoid USB 3.0 interference
So... enough
For deconz specifically, not in general
yeah ik
Thanks. The zigbee2mqtt site is great. Is there anykind of "userrating" to filter for the devices? Or are they basically working fine IF they are listed?
I wonder if listed devices such as this: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/MS-108ZR.html
Could work local without any Vendos cloud sh***
It can with a zigbee adapter and zigbee2mqtt, hence why it's on the supported devices list
It will work with ZHA if it either follows the zigbee spec or a quirk exists for it if it doesn't follow the spec
I just bought rpi4. Do I need SSD for home assistant or SD card?
SD card will work, but an SSD would almost certainly last longer
How much storage do I need?
The question is wether getting an ssd now or in 6 months
Hello. I bought three SD cards (SanDisk Extreme 64GB A2, https://www.westerndigital.com/de-de/products/memory-cards/sandisk-extreme-uhs-i-for-mobile-gaming-microsd#SDSQXA2-064G-GN6GN) and none of them are read on my Ubuntu Laptop and as it seems my Raspberry Pi isn't booting off of it. The green LED is not blinking at all when I turn on the RPI. Is there something wrong with this type of SD? My Windows PC, a Mac and my Android phone all read the SD cards. When I put it into my Ubuntu laptop, absolutely nothing happens and it doesn't show up anywhere
I specifically bought a class A2 card since it's recommended on the website
What security camer with night vision and without batteries would you suggest. 😅 there are so many
Dahua/Amcrest has a nice lineup
Cool will have a look at them thanks
how did you flash them? (please don't slap me)
rpi imager
oh no sorry
balena
rpi-imager was for RPI OS, did that as well 😛
Balena Atcher
and that didn't work?
the flashing worked
but the RPI isn't reading the SD at all, only the red light is on
something is messed up with those SDs and Linux
hmm ..
before you flash the image, did you use SD Formatter to wipe the drive?
have you tried another power source (not sure if it will help.. but worth a try)
Not needed
actually you are right 🙂
@winged knoll any ideas? i can't think of anything lol
me neither haha
it doesn't make any sense that my linux machine isn't reacting to the SD card at all, I tried exfat, FAT
NTFS
you have ruled out the imaging software and the images., and used multiple SD card
2 SD cards of the same type
newly bought
I have a third one but I don't wanna unpack that
Power would be the only possible thing
sorry what light do you get upon boot again?
in what sense?
If the Pi isn't getting enough power it can cause it to not even try to boot
only red
has nothing to do with it! using the officla PSU and I just flashed it to another SD card and it's working
some old 8GB SD card
3B+
ah
it's not the Pi and not the PSU or anything
it must have something to do with the SD card
yeah that rules out a few other things
it's random enough that 2 SD cards aren't recognized at all on my linux machine (as if it wasn't plugged in)
in theory balena and the raspi imager will properly format the card and set the right partition formats etc
I suspect the reason why my linux machine cannot read it is the same as why the RPI can't read it
I ordered a USB hub with a SD slot to try on my linux machine
if it works on windows but not on there, it must be the OS
in the past when I had annoying sd cards I would wipe it with this https://hddguru.com/software/HDD-LLF-Low-Level-Format-Tool/ (USE WITH CAUTION) and then do the imaging
hm
I'll try when I get the SD card reader, I don't have a SD slot on my windows machine. used my friends adapter
but it's my own (dumb) practice to wipe it separately before imaging
then how are you flashing images?
ah your friend's adaptor*
you could try flashing an image if you have an android phone with a microsd slot.. i have tried that before
there's an app on the play store lol
i can't remember what it is called
but when you insert it into your linux machine... i assume you type lsblk or dmesg to check if it is connected?
I used everything you can dream off
i can imagine haha
not sure how you connect your sd card to your linux machine...
(I was assuming via usb.. maybe not?)
let me copy it over

This is going to sound crazy, but assuming you're using a microSD to SD card adatper: try another adapter! I just had this problem with a known good card, and discovered that it worked perfectly with a different SD card adapter. (The "bad" adapter worked correctly with a different microSD card.) I have no idea why this would be, but it was a consistent fix in my case.
https://askubuntu.com/questions/872183/sd-card-reader-error
yeah just found that as well, but I tried
I used both adapters that came with it and another one I had laying around
umm isn't there like a switch on the SD card for read only?
but i assume if that's set to read only you won't be able to flash the image..
anyway.. good luck with that 😄
tried the switch in multiple settings
the only other thing I would check is if you happened to get a fake sandisk card..
then it probably should be fine... does the image flash relatively quickly (in a couple mins) ?
well.. can't think of anything else, looks like you covered all basis already
to fix the Linux SD card reading issue, this may help? https://github.com/asymingt/rts5139
it's quite old 😄
oops.. you're right!
I'll wait for the new SD card reader, though I doubt it will fix my RPI issue
but maybe I can get it to work in Linux
yeah
Hi guys, my garage company just confirmed 24Volts and it has a stop, open and close. How shall I connect the Shelly to control all 3
Hey
how do you connect shelly to garage open, stop and close (not just open and close)
can the shelly support 24v>
I just read Shelly 1 has operation voltages of 12V and 24-60V DC
Looking at this diagram, how is a single wire going to the garage controlling open, stop, close
http://icontrols.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Pulse-500-Control-Board-White.jpg
Check the Push Button Station is where Shelly will go
@glossy prism So every device on the list will work with HA, and an USB stick (like the conbee 2) 100% local (no vendor cloud) ?
Here is the setup, I would like to check with someone before trying it out 😄
That list is specifically for zigbee2mqtt. But yes, zigbee is a local protocol, so using a zigbee adapter with zigbee2mqtt or ZHA will be fully local
Thats great. Is there anything one need to consider with zigbee2mqtt ? Is it slower, less stable than lets say philips hue?
It will encourage you to buy more Zigbee devices, draining your wallet
That sounds promessing, i already going to buy about 30 devices if this works out. Ive choosed a sonoff usb dongle due to P and easy avavible.
I read, i shall get an extension cable. Anything i shall consider ?
Is this "just" a good usb cable or anything fancy
It should be either a decent USB 2.0 cable or a decent USB 3.0 cable in a USB 2.0 port
USB 3.0 interferes with Zigbee
Is there any suggested hardware for the? Just run on any Raspi?
I do have some older Raspberry Pies (If i remember there are some 2B and whats not but not 4) here or rather pick up an Raspi 4?
Or something else
stability is a thing
Not on a Pi running on an SD card is always good
Some folks have run Z2M on a Pi Zero, though I'd suggest that's a bit much
hey guys. sorry if wrong thread/channel. i need help finding smart lock. is there any great ones that you all can recommend? i need to be able to remotely lock/unlock/check the lock and most importantly remotely set new passcodes. i'm going to be setting that lock in an airbnb home in a different city and need to be able to assign new codes to new customers. pls help. thanks.
Sry could you repeat this?
SD cards die, if you run on a Pi with an SD card at some point you'll be sad when it all stops working
Do i have one server only for z2m AND HA or do i need 2 Serves
Either works
Well than i see no need to run 2 devices.
Is there anykind of NAS or "selfmade" NAS/Sever you could suggest
There's many choices there, more than you can count

Okay, but a Pi2B with an ssd will be good for a stable setup to run HA and Z2M ?

Pi2 ...
Pi3 is the lowest recommended spec
Pi3 will struggle with HA and Z2M due to the lack of RAM
A Pi4, or any second hand laptop/PC from the last decade. As long as it's 64 bit, got at least 2 GB of RAM and at least 2 cores (more of everything is better)
Thanks. Therefore i need to buy "something" anyway.
Country: germany
Budget: 😉 Not sure but wont like to buy a 500€ machine "just" for HA. If there is an powerfull all in one option (FTP for ipcam, backups, HA, Z2M, whatever) iam happy to spend some bucks
Protocol: Zigbee, Wifi (cams and maybe some shelly for stuff), (maybe thread in a hopefully not so far future)
Oh, i have some old pc hardware in the basement, if i remember right i3 gen 2 or so + a bunch of RAM
But i wonder if the power consumtion will kill any savings
But its not an SSD
what's the best smart switches?
redoing a house and about to buy switches
any suggestions?

Are there any zigbee wall switches which i can use with GIRA faceplates?
Hue wall switch 😬
the friends of hue for 50€ ones ?
Well thats pretty much the same as sonoffs, isnt it. Its just my wall is just like 4cm deep. That seems to tight. As the mechanical part is about 2-3 cm on its own
@thick oriole
woo that would be tiny
Ok its 10,2mm thick
Except the price, they‘re really nice
sometimes they are on sale currently there is a pack of 2 for 50€
Yes, i already have 5 👍
To bad they dont sell motor shutters, i will gonna get some moes tuya ones
is there any option to put bosch smart home switches into HA ?
Would someone be able to help me figure out why one of my zooz 4 in 1 sensors is not connecting properly? It comes up on HA as node 11
So, with the "Official" Raspberry Pi Case fan connected to a PWM header, I can turn the fan on and off. Which is fantastic. Is there any way that I could actually control the speeds at which the fan spins/operates? What would the changes (if any) in my configuration file be?

Hi everyone. I have a jabra speaker(https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S8NKN5G/) connected to my raspberry pi 4(with home assistant os) over usb. The speaker has "pick up call" and "hang up call" buttons. How can I make those into triggers for an automation?
Hey all, I'm looking for a standalone lux sensor, preferably Zigbee or WiFi. I've found Xiaomi Mi Light Detection Sensor, but that doesn't seem directly available in the UK. Are there any others that someone could recommend? Thanks!
You can buy them from AliExpress, that's where I got mine
My conbee stick is having an error
Failed to probe the usb device
I'm using a VM on Win 10. I let the USB device passthrough to the VM.
I've tried deconz and the zigbee add-on
Tried another port / restarting the VM / restarting my instance / googling

Hey guys, do anyone here has experience with this? I've managed to flash openwrt on my xiaomi gateway but not I dont know what to do with it https://openlumi.github.io/
Thanks, I've only found Tuya ones on there so far, however I have found the Xiaomi one from powerplanetonline which ends up 16 euros delivered. Reviews seem average
I've found those light sensors to be pretty good - every bit as good as my Fibaro multi-sensor, and very close to my USB powered Aeotec multi-sensor
The Develco multi-sensor is probably on a par
The Tuya or Xiaomi? I've got the Xiaomi motion sensor with lux and I've found it great so far. Tempting to make my own as i've a spare esp32, but I like the convenience of something already packaged up
😆 I've no experience with Tuya
That's the best kind
I've ordered the Xiaomi one from powerplanetonline, should turn up next week fingers crossed

Can I somehow use keyboard inputs to trigger automations? I have a raspberry pi 4 with home assistant os.
I'm running ha now on a RPI. Does the UI show the CPU temperature anywhere?
Only if you install an integration that provides that
Anyone have issues with Shelly 2 crashing? Every time I send an off command to the light entity the Shelly crashes. And won’t work again till I turn power off and back on
Looks like turning it off in the Shelly app does the same thing.. guess I should be looking at Shelly support
I need to have a smart plug (UK) that can be controlled by HA despite being installed at a totally different location - ie. cloud based. Can anyone recommend something like that that works well with HA?
well, just a FYI, the Sengled Zigbee Smart plugs don't really support 15a as listed. They only support 10am before faulting.
sucks, beecause I bought them to monitor a washer... half the time it'll, the other half it woin't
Anyone else have a alternative that supports more than 10amps?

Hi guys
regarding the Xiaomi Air purifier PRO
The purifier does have a built in light sensor. Problem is the sensor only updates when the purififier is on. Is there a way to have the light sensor working regardless of its state?
or to stop the fan even when the device is on?
I currently run HA OS on pi4, use a very old laptop for Blue Iris (4 IP cameras), and have a soon-to-be sunsetted WD MyCloud for basic file/photo storage and remote access. First Seagate Cloud, now WD…so I’m looking into Synology but my question is - any way for me to use less hardware? Do I even need to? I basically want to view my stored files and photos (WD Cloud ❌) anywhere, check my HA (Nabu Casa ✅), and view my cameras (Blue Iris ✅). I see Synology has a Surveillance feature? Can I use a 3-bay Synology (one for each app? - overkill..) I have subpar home server knowledge and never did a VM, but am good at tinkering if someone can direct me somewhere to read. Thanks ☺️
Are you looking for storage or a way to view stuff you already have while away from your network?
I believe both now? The WD Cloud drive still is fine storage, but remote access discontinued. So I basically have an external HDD now
Well, a VPN or a reverse proxy would be good things to google.
Sounds like you really only need access to your network when away.
Depending on your tech level, neither are extremely difficult
Sorry, last question, which is where I’m stuck. Besides pi and Windows hardware (always on), I also have Verizon stock router (wifi disabled) and 2 Unifi AP points. What “gets” the VPN? Router w/ no wifi? AP? Always-on Windows? That will get me in the right spot
well, there are a few options. some routers support different types of VPNs, or you could run something like piVPN to set up a VPN on a server
or manually set up a VPN on a server
I wonder if a ZigBee usb stick is enough for a whole house installation or rather get an stick with an externa antenna for better range ?
Previously: is the antenna on a stick like the sonoff one good enough or maybe get an extra sma antanna (a bigger one)
with enough routers, it should not be a problem
You mean ziggbee devices that act as a router ? Like the sonoff zbmini?
Great.
Do you have any experience with meos tuya devices
Amazon ratings are medicore
i avoid anything tuya
Why?
Do you have any alternative for shutter motors? It's pretty tough to find any EU located
is that for windows? like for shades and such>
what type of shutters
read the intro from here: https://github.com/ct-Open-Source/tuya-convert
Not sure if IKEA does shutter motors? I know they do blinds
if you are planning to use zigbee check: https://zigbee.blakadder.com/index.html
yes I think they do something similar. Don't know if it's the right type for you though https://www.ikea.com/us/en/cat/electric-blinds-44531/
there are similar models for EU
There’s also Tuya who aren’t that concert one, the Tuya zigbee are bad as they often don’t follow the spec
My kid's room has a wall switch that controls a normal outlet with a standing lamp. All dumb stuff, nothing smart. Now the kid (2.5y) is tall enough to reach the wall switch and turn on their light and it keeps them awake. Looking for a smart thing that'll lock them out at night while still letting the wife use the wall switch during the day. Like, I dunno, a smart plug that remembers on/off when it loses power?
You could get a smart control for the wall switch to deactivate the switch itself during certain hours (think the shelly can do this)
@unreal oak Outdoor electric shutters.
Hi everybody i could use some advice, and the talk of the town states that this is the best place to go for that 😉
I am currently running Homaassistant on Docker on Ubuntu The hardware is an Intel NUC that unfortunately doest not support bare metal installation of ESXi
Celeron CPU and 4 GB RAM NUC DN2820FYKH.
But my installation is not supported and I am thinking about reinstalling! But which way should I go with my current hardware. I am proficient in networking and server/ESXi, but I am a novice at Linux
Sounds like you are running #330944238910963714
Which is the least desirable installation method
Jep
If you must have add-ons for some strange reason, run #330990055533576204 in a vm
If not, run regular #449717345808547842
And install the software you need in containers
I use Deconz bur i think that is the only add on
That exists as a container
jep it is running as one right now
ok, pardon my noobiness 🙂 what is the difference between #330944238910963714 and #449717345808547842 ?
One has the supervisor and behaves like #330990055533576204
One runs free of supervisor
ok And the Docker system should be on debian correct?
arhh ok
so I can just clean up my ubunto POrtainer/Docker setup and install #449717345808547842 and restore the backup of the system
Not the backup from supervisor
But you can extract the config folder
And restore that
The supervisor backup is only for two of the installation methods
ok so i cant do i system backup and restore on the new setup
Sure, by backing up the config folder, or extracting it from the supervisor backup
People hate on supervised but if it works for you then I wouldn't bother changing it. It just breaks easier than other methods
My primary concern is that It alway says that the supervisor i unpriviledged when its not, a hard restart of the supervisor will give me the option to upgrade the Core, but it is kinda irritating. Given the chance I would run the .OVA on a bare metal ESXi install on my NUC
I was super disapointed when i discovered that it wasn't posible to install ESXi on the hardware
Hmm I am not familiar with KVM how is the difficulty rating on that
Wondering if you can use a broadlink ir hub in the reverse manner....always listen for ir signals, and react with automations based on incoming ir inputs
I think I will try and install KVM KVM can only be used if CPU supports Intel-VT, and according to this: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/81071/intel-celeron-processor-n2830-1m-cache-up-to-2-41-ghz.html mine does so I will try
Most stuff from the last decade plus does
year but since the ESXi wouldn't install I was kinda expecting that it wouldn't support it 😄
But would I be able to run me current HASS install simultaneous with a KVM install until a have restored config
@slender anchor if you’re wanting a virtualisation solution more similar to ESXi then proxmox will run on pretty much all hardware. Though depends if you want it to be a gui and fancy management over the top of what is basically KVM on Ubuntu anyway
I notice the kindle fire HD 10 is on sale at Amazon atm, the 3GB version. Is that still the best choice for a wall mounted tab? Will it handle streaming a few camera feeds?
I want to get a good wifi motion sensor, but I can't find anywhere that has a list that isnt dominated by zigbee stuff. I currently dont have a zigbee hub, though I might end up getting one later
Aren't there plenty WiFi ones? SonOff offer some as far as I remember
WiFi is horrible for motion
ZigBee will give you 3-4 years of battery life minimum
WiFi will be...a lot less
Sonoff do a zigbee one and an RF one
There are bluetooth ones also (but probably need more research on how to set them up.. ), zigbee ones are ok but have a cooldown period, RF ones are cheap and have a short cooldown, but need an RF bridge (probably flashed with tasmota)
How come Philips Hue bulbs are so dang common? By far the most expensive I'd say
Because they have better colours usually
For CT i notice no difference to tradfri
For RGB it is a lot better
I've had 80+ bulbs for 4 years now, the only ones that have died are Philips hue
What's CT and tradfri short for?
Oh okay thanks for explaining that. I kind of thought the RGB would be better with Philips Hue as well. Didn't expect them to fail though. The IKEA stuff works well for you though?
Yes
Never had issues
And usually buy them marked down or in the cheap corner used at ikea
That's an advantage you have over me. No IKEAS where I live. Maybe Costco has some of this tech for cheap
You can order online
No, i suggest doing a usb coordinator
And zigbee2mqtt or zha
Look at the pins in #zigbee-archived
I use a Poe coordinator and zigbee2mqtt
one of those USB dongles like Sonoff makes?
Yes not the cc2531
roger
The 2652xx based
You use those because they are required or because they speed things up?
Because the offer more flexibility
I can add support for any device
And they aren't vendor bogged down
And don't use cloud nønsense
The cloud has been pissing me off since I started all this LOL
My whole house works without internet
I don't think that could be the case for my things. Nest thermostat and Roku TVs need it I think
Ewww nest
Yeah, I'm frustrated that I can't use my sensors in HA
ZigBee is life
I'm new2game
Doesn't make sense to take the thermostat out at this point. No chance at returning and getting the $$
Hey have you ever tried creating one of those gentle wake ups?
See when you said Hue for RGB I was thinking a gentle wake up probably would use some color and some temperature changes to create a good effect
Hue works on Zigbee from my research
and I think you can emulate a hub to save $50 or whatever it is now
i see what you mean now
Hey so i am looking at some so off switch and wonder does the sonoff nszb01 work well with home assistant?
Yeah I was looking at that one also. Also can that dongle be used for Philips hue at the same time?
Instead of the hue bridge
i was just looking at the Hue doc cause I wanted to know if I needed the bridge also but sadly I think the answer is yes
Hue Hub and Dongle broadcast so the goal is the limit the radio waves
So either hue hub or ha with sonoff usb stick right?
Is there a device limit with the sonoff stick? As u currently need at least 2 bridges which is a bit anoying
There are people running hundreds of devices
Awesome. A big issue with those bridges is they can handle roughly 60 device before they start to give issues.
I run 120+ currently, not even a hint of latency
On the hue bridges?
Just ordered one of those sonoff dongels
I still search for electrical outside shutter controllers. The only ones that don't feel like a rip off are the tuya but ppl say tuya sucks ;/
tuya is super annoying to set up
you have to go through their iot platform, even if you want to use the local tuya integration
and good luck finding that these days
at least many of the non-ESP tuya modules are transplantable with ESP modules though
but that's obviously more involved than tuya-convert or serial flashing
Well i learned tuya the hard way..
At least for those switched that can't be flashed
Okay so no tuya ZigBee things.
But what else? I going to need about 10 controller
My wife wants led candles. Any ones that work well with Home Assistant? I might just roll my own, but it sounds like one of those things where premade would be a lot cheaper if I can find it. 😄
Googling ZigBee LED candle just comes up with bulbs.
I assume you have checked https://zigbee.blakadder.com/lights.html ?
Seems the situation is the same. Anything that says "candle" is still just a regular bulb.
I'm looking for stuff like this: https://i.etsystatic.com/21153216/r/il/168bc3/2386798202/il_fullxfull.2386798202_cldd.jpg
Doesn't have to be ZigBee, just something that I can use with HA.
Hello, I have a HA Blue Odriod-N2+. Earlier this evening, I triggered a reboot of the host after noticing some squirrelly behavior and it didn't come back up (no core or supervisor). I hooked up a monitor and keyboard and still could not get it to respond. I pulled power and watch it boot up and it seemed to boot fine except that it complained about the file system needing to be check due to improper shutdown. How do I get the device to run fsck after I reboot it?
I've tried going into the login from the ha > prompt, and then trying something like touch /forcefsck but I get a read-only file system error. I think I might be close, but lack the experience I need to perform this. Would really appreciate any help. Thanks.
Tuya zigbee is different, it’s not the best but if it’s all you have then it can usually work. You might have to add support for it though in ZHA/ Z2MQTT
Basically an avoid if possible but zigbee is always without cloud
What smart weather stations do people tend to recommend? Ecowitt brand ones are on sale on Amazon today and was considering one.
Weatherflow Tempest. Integrates perfectly with home assistant (3rd party integration). Piezo rain sensor does not pick up drizzle and you have to be careful how you mount it to eliminate vibrations that will give false rain readings.
Yikes, $700AUD is a bit more than I'm willing to spend for a 10m x 4m garden weather station!
Not sure where you got that price. I got it $498.31 AUD delivered.
Never buy from Amazon AU. Unlike the US Amazon it is just a marketplace for middlemen to add their massive cut. You can usually find much cheaper prices elsewhere.
Well you can't buy direct from Weatherflow, so where were you seeing $500aud?
You can and I did.
Send them an email if your budget will stretch that far.
How recently did you order? Because they have AU as an option on their site, but order button is greyed out.
3rd Oct 2021.
Thanks. Will consider it.
I received it a bit over 2 weeks later.
Hi anyone here had a problem with Homeassistant KVM not booting on ProxMox It seems to try booth PXE and HTTP and then fails out to uefi shell
Sounds like a #installation-archived problem
morning yall
Hello all,
My father is replacing his nvr and blueiris installation. He is running / planning to run 10 1080-2k cameras. I would like something that is easy where is boots up straight to home assistant / frigate like you can with raspberry pi. What would be some hardware recommendations. I know a google coral would be best but they seem to be out of stock or very expensive
It’s out of stock
And I have visited that page but it’s not helpful as it uses general terms on camera capacity
Any recommendations for a wall mounted tablet? Max 7 inch
Preferably something with the most minimum android and not much more as it isn't needed i think
Perhaps the possibility for wireless charging?
guys i have an ip camera srihome sh020 that is connected with srihome app on andoid and i watch it from my phone through cloud
Now i want to connect it only local to may router and H.A and not to the cloud, how can i do it
Does it support RTSP or ONVIF?
yes both
Then you can use the ONVIF or generic #cameras-archived integrations
yes i have manage it, but now camera is connected to srihome app on android and i can see it remotely , i think it is not secure at all. I want to operate anly local and not from srihome app
You'll probably have to block that on your router, if your router even supports that
nice idea . i'll try
if you can find a good one on ebay - Nexus 7 2013? It's not the fastest but it fits the bill with LineageOS
Thanks @calmelb. I thought about using it with z2mqtt. Iam open for other options but I really struggle to find any alternative. My alternatives would be Shelly's plus. But that's WiFi which I rather like to avoid
Is the Sonoff USB Zigbee Gateway a good one?
I have one, and it works. But I've only had it for a whole two days.
Bought it because of the serious antenna looking antenna
What’s a good light/ illuminance sensor that’s zigbee based, I’m in australia and budget is not too stupid
Which ones specifically?
Can’t find it on Aliexpress weirdly
Huh
I see it in the local Xiaomi store though
Found a used pc which has a Intel Xeon E3-1271 v3 @ 3.60GHz and a and r9 380x 16gb of ram
Any issues with this running frigate with 8-10 cameras
Can get it for 325
Already read through that. Unless I missed something.
We had this same convo yesterday
Yup, so, that gives you a good guide for what you need, and you still need a Coral board/stick
It’s not a good guide. It is a guide ;). Also I don’t need a coral. My current instance does not have a coral and runs well but I want one just a 6 month wait
It may be the best by default as it is the only one I have found. Does not make it good. It lacks specifics to make informed decisions
Then I'd direct you to the #cameras-archived channel, where you'll also find the developer of Frigate
You may also get more answers at https://github.com/blakeblackshear/frigate/discussions
Perfect
One more question not related to frigate
Would I be able to install home assistant directly on intel based hardware or do I need to run Linux with docker/vm
I know it runs on other os as well
If you mean Home Assistant OS, then https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/generic-x86-64#install-home-assistant-operating-system
Ok I saw that. Thought that is what that meant
I pickedup a SNZB-03 and have since learned it's a poor choice for a motion sensor, is there one that works reliably?
Depends on your budget, and protocols. Assuming Zigbee then Hue is the gold standard, though the Develco mult-sensor seems pretty close. The Xiaomi sensors are ok.
so the Sonoff stuff is meh?
Sonoff and Tuya are both ... of variable quality
I picked up one of their usb dongles, the docs I had read at the time suggested it was the gold standard for adding zigbee to a containerized install of HA
Hue, as in Philips?
Well I am at the same point right now. Order a sonoff stick as it goes the power chipset as well as tuya roller shutter. Any alternatives? @winged knoll Ian very open for anything else
I probably read the same doc for the usb stick
Buy something CC2652 based. This list is a good one, both Tube and Electrolama have been proven to have excellent customer service. The current generation of EZSP sticks (see here for some) are also a good choice for ZHA.
Anything CC2530 or CC2531 based should be avoided - they're old, slow, and only suitable for a dozen or so devices. The Sonoff ZBbridge isn't advised since it uses WiFi (built in interference causing stability/reliability issues), and the HUSBZB-1 uses an older chipset so should be avoided.
Finally, the ConBee range are fine with deCONZ, but experience with ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT appears to be mixed.
Well I picked the sonoff from the list which is cc2652p. Therefore I wonder why sonoff should not be fine
Should be fine, there's been some build quality issues reported, but they seem to be rare
@cold nexus posted a code wall, it is moved here --> https://hastebin.com/coxexiweha
It seems I have posted what the HassBot thinks is code which is fine. It is decoded packets to control a tempurpedic ergo bed. https://hastebin.com/coxexiweha
It just means that you posted more than 15 lines #rules
I also control my tempur ergo base with those sequences
you can try the aqara one or the ikea one.. but i think the ikea has a long timeout
Ikea has a very long timeout 90s and doesn't support continuous motion reporting (at least not in deconz)...
Battery life is also below expectations.
I cannot recommend it in any way.
thanks for the feedback.. i was thinking of buying one cos my xiaomi one seems to disconnect/unpair itself (maybe because of a poor zigbee signal)
Hope this is the right channel, if not please direct me... I have an BME280 sensor that is used with esphome. However after weeks if normal operation, it started reporting "nan" for humidity this weekend.(only for humidity, temp and pressure work normally)
I thought it might have to do with updating to the latest esphome and updated esphome.
After the update everything was working again.
Until this morning when humidity started reporting "nan" again. Recompiled esp32 and now it's working again, but now I wonder for how long.
Does anyone have any clue what might be going on, or how I can get more low level feedback on why it is failing.
Does just power cycling it fix it as well?
I haven't tried, its not as easily accessible, so it was easier to apply this method. But next time it will stop working I'll try that. What will that tell me?
yep Aqara / Xiaomi devices have quite some issues with routing and are picky about repeaters they "talk to" (and "stick" with)
https://community.hubitat.com/t/xiaomi-aqara-devices-pairing-keeping-them-connected/623
but it's possible for them to be in stable network
pain in the butt but a lot of folks like them anyway
Welp speaking of presence detection...
Are there any actual reviews for Aqara Presence Detector FP1 (RTCZCGQ11LM)?
or similar type of sensor?
if just power cycling fixes it, my guess would be on an issue in the firmware, that just either over time gets itself stuck somehow, or some specific trigger breaks it
Ok that makes sense. Do you know if it is possible to echo the I2C commands and replies in the log of esphome?
yeah thanks - read that thread multiple times
just as we talked about it.. my xiaomi motion sensor stopped working 😦 and it was pretty reliable for several weeks now
I’ve not had the ikea motion sensors battery drain on me, but can confirm with Z2Mqtt the timeout is still fixed to 90sec
Ok, so my humidity sensor data just went to unknown (showing nan in the log), but after a power cycle of esp32 it works again.
Any tips of what to do/check next are appreciated...
Try posting in #diy-archived This channel is more for off the shelf hardware. There's also an ESPHome Discord server.
ESPHome is a system to control your ESP8266/ESP32, with a native integration for Home Assistant.
You can find their documentation here, and get help with ESPHome itself here in the #diy-archived channel (#integrations-archived for the Home Assistant side integration with it). They also have their own Discord server too.
Thanks @tepid heart
A friend of mine from the US is looking for webshops for smart home products, where do you buy your products?
AliExpress
I'm looking more for something like this https://www.tink.de/ but than in the US. @winged knoll
Because my friend prefers to buy from the US. and not everything he wants can be found on Ali.
Hi. I bought a Shelly door/window sensor and it was easy to add in home assistant, but after a few minutes, it stops updating the sensor entities
Using the default settings and latest firmware
what do you mean by "stops updating"
When I added it, it would update the sensors like door and temperature a couple of time, then they just stay exactly as they are (closed for example while the shelly's web ui shows new values)
Lat update also says 13hours ago
Additionally, I see the sensor respond to ping when a state changes, and waking it up manually does not update the values in HA either
Hey folks, I built a home assistant glow, which worked great until I got solar panels, now the impulse LED on my meter flashes when I consume or return power to the grid, and of course the glow has no way of knowing which is which.
I guess I need to upgrade to some CT clamps, and ones that are aware of which direction the energy is flowing. Does anyone have any recommendations?
do u really need 6?
If you wanted to measure every circuit then yeah most likely
but like, even with solar, uve got like 4, in from grid, out to grid, to battery, in from inverter
in fact in/out from grid could probably be same ct clamp
I’m talking more what that is designed for, measuring individual circuits for the house
(Eg room 1, 2, aircon, lights, etc)
Anyone have Eufy L20? Does it work for local only on Home Assistant? I am open to using something like motionEye if needed.
Anyone got horizontal blinds, the kind with two strings on one side that adjusts tilt, and a cord on the other to pull them up?
Venetian blinds?
Hey everyone! I'm looking for an in-wall switch, hopefully with at least three buttons that I can use to control a smart bulb on/off/on without flux, that works as a regular light switch cutting off power when Zigbee/Wi-Fi/Whatever connection is lost.
Does such a thing exist, or do I have to get a separate "smart switch" to place right above the dumb switch, and be forever doomed to swat people's hands away from the dumb switch unless the smart one isn't working?
You can get something like a shelly which sits behind the dumb switch and works smartly that way
Those would work for on/off, but not for a third (or more) mode. Do those failover nicely at least? If nothing comes up at least I could get a smart button for the additional modes and use the regular switch for on/off.
You could have a button/ momentary switch which I think can give toggle and press (toggle being on/ off and then press would turn on without flux).
They will failover fine, since everything is run on there then passed to HA
They will failover fine, since everything is run on there then passed to HA
Then does that mean they cut power to the bulb even if they are able to reach HA?
I need something that will always send power to the bulb when HA is reachable, but will act like a normal dumb switch only when HA is unavailable.
Well I've been digging around and it seems the best course of action is to grab any of these smart relays that can have ESPHome flashed into them, and just write the fallback code and custom behavior meself.
Works for me. Thanks @proven girder for pointing me towards the right path!
No they won't. The shellys are their own contained system that will also talk to HA. If ha isn't there then they'll still run
Yeah, do you have experience automating them?
Yeah they will still run, but from what I ve been reading they cut power to my smart bulbs (which throws some models off) instead of just sending the signal to HA even if everything's working fine. I could put them in detached mode but then the fail over doesn't work.
I need it to not cut power if HA is reachable, but DO cut power if HA is not reachable.
Ha! Apparently this is already the default behavior of the Shelly 1 after flashing with ESPHome and enabling its own detached mode. Nice
hello, someone have olimex esp32-poe + ttl rs485 for modbus ?
Hello guys.
I used to buy 192w 4*4a rgbw controllers.
I couldn't help but notice that today the controllers are with 100w 4a/ch rgbw.
What was there? Are there really these two models or is it just a subtitle error?
Avoid cross-posting. Please remove your message from #energy-archived.
4 times 4 A at 12 V is 192 W so that seems likely. 100 W would be 6.25 V for 16 A which is... weird...
Sorry for multiple postings.
I also found this new configuration strange.
Here's a link with a 100w 4a/ch product
and here one with the expected product 192w https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005002703402188.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2fra&spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.21efcaa4P7v7oU
are they really two different products?
They look the same to me.
Quite possibly it's a case of:
Per channel limit of 100W
Total limit of 192W
I found it strange a subtitle 4a/ch and the other 4a*4ch
I think I understand. It would be 100w maximum for 24v which gives 4.16a per channel. And if they were 12v, it would be 50w per channel to give 4.16a
makes sense?
Does anyone have recommendations for a speaker for low-latency TTS announcements? I have echos and I have used alexa media player for this, but there's a pretty decent delay between the trigger and the announcement. I'm looking for something with near-instant notifications, specifically for things like "front door opened" kind of notifications.
Edit: Would it be best to pre-record messages as mp3 files and have them played locally some way? I think that might be the only way to avoid a cloud-call?
While I'm at it, how about a zigbee keypad for arming/disarming of an alarm? I've seen mentions of an Xfinity keypad, but it didn't seem to be integrated into zigbee2mqtt quite yet, and my coding prowess is lacking, lol.
Cached TTS will help reduce that delay. With cached TTS I get near instant from both Sonos and Google Home
Hey folks, I am trying to do something seemingly simple as make an grid card with picture entities with my family and their status home/away
But I am struggling to find a solution for Pictures of my family, in the grid card. That will work both when we are locally connected at home or remote connected through companion app
How have you solved this challenge???
#frontend-archived can help with cards
😄 sry
What are best option for switching on/off bathroom fan? Wifi, zigbee, zwave? What are you using?
So I guess ESP Home is too heavy application for my Raspberry Pi 3 model B right? Its not even the +. So I got like 1 GB ram? 😄
ESPHome runs on the ESP, not the Pi
For folks in the US, does a Shelly fit properly in a 1 gang box behind a dumb switch? I'm only seeing pictures of them in European boxes which seem much bigger.
Do you know how I'd go about cached TTS with Alexas? I tried calling the tts.cloud_say service with the cache box checked in developer tools, but just get an error along the lines of "Sorry, TTS can only be called with the notify.alexa_media service"
depends on the depth of the box and the current fill
No idea, I don't own any Alexa devices
Thank you for the lead
Hm but when I try to add the ESP to the addon my Pi crashed.. get some kernel errors. "info: task kworker/1:2:12306 blocked for more than 122 seconds" what is this about?
during the "preparing isntallation"
Probably not enough RAM, but ... #add-ons-archived
So not hardware related?
how can I tell if I'm out of ram?
shouldnt that be the error?
I have a Pi 3 model B not the +
Well, 1 GB of RAM... that's not a lot
yeha guess so :S I have a few other addons running
Oooooof
I have several Schlage Sense (https://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE479CENFFF.html) HomeKit deadbolts, is there any way to add them to HASS?
Okay, I'm weirded out because an item I thought first to buy when I heard of "smart home"... doesn't seem to exist
A light switch that acts as completely normal light switch, but which can have its state switched by some wireless smart signal as well
Does this really not exist?
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills
that's a smart switch
But the ones I see at least in local shops are such that they are purely wireless
then you're looking at smart remotes
a smart light switch cannot be wireless since it needs to be wired to the light power line
Like, that's the name most smart remotes call itself, "smart switch"
then don't believe them
Yeah but I don't find these smart switches. It's always smart remote
Calling itself smart switch
have you tried looking online?
i highly doubt that
Regardless of where in the world you are, there's dozens to hundreds of those devices
Where in the world are you?
Finland, EU
same dimension?
If you want a specific brand then https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/supported-devices/#v=Ubisys for one of many examples
Hi everyone. Are there any motors for this kind of blinds https://images.app.goo.gl/2L8vte6B5bnRMMCa8 ?
Optimally with ZigBee or WiFi built in.
https://www.amazon.de/Schellenberg-20610-Rohrmotor-Rolladenmotor-Wandlager/dp/B00CSHXPTG/
this type of motors should work
https://www.amazon.de/Currdouble-Einbauschalte-Rolladenschalter-Rolladenmotor-Rolladenantrieb/dp/B08TWKL1VG/ there are wifi controller for this type of motors
the motor go in the rod of the roller shutter
you need to know how heavy the shutter is to choose the right motor
Thanks, will check out.
but please consider that these are just examples and you have to look for the exact products yourself depending on weight, size and voltage
hey all. got Z2M working. but my aqara vibration sensor is reporting sensitivity "null". I am following the directions at: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/DJT11LM.html#xiaomi-djt11lm with no luck
getting an error when I try settting the sensittivity... Error: Error Publish 'set' 'sensitivity' to 'Dryer Vibration' failed: 'Error: Write 0x00158d0007c63c78/1 genBasic({"65293":{"value":11,"type":32}}, {"sendWhen":"immediate","timeout":35000,"disableResponse":false,"disableRecovery":false,"disableDefaultResponse":true,"direction":0,"srcEndpoint":null,"reservedBits":0,"manufacturerCode":4447,"transactionSequenceNumber":null,"writeUndiv":false}) failed (no response received)'
Info MQTT publish: topic 'zigbee2mqtt/bridge/log', payload '{"message":"Publish 'set' 'sensitivity' to 'Dryer Vibration' failed: 'Error: Write 0x00158d0007c63c78/1 genBasic({"65293":{"value":11,"type":32}}, {"sendWhen":"immediate","timeout":35000,"disableResponse":false,"disableRecovery":false,"disableDefaultResponse":true,"direction":0,"srcEndpoint":null,"reservedBits":0,"manufacturerCode":4447,"transactionSequenceNumber":null,"writeUndiv":false}) failed (no response received)'","meta":{"friendly_name":"Dryer Vibration"},"type":"zigbee_publish_error"}'
another case solved by dumb luck and 6 hours of reading and experimentation.
Hey. I've my wired network in my garage/office. I want to add some Bluetooth temp/humidity sensors into each bedroom in my home. Is there a Bluetooth hub I can connect into my home that will be connected to my home assistant raspberry pi via network. The Bluetooth from my raspberry in garage does not reach the home
Worst case, a second pi and ha-remote could be used to act as that extension
depending upon the size of the house, bluetooth hub (if you get those) may not be suitable. consider ESP 32 chips and xiaomi /aqara bluetooth sensor - you can check the support in esphome.io
the other question of course is, why wouldn't you use zigbee or something else that doesn't have range issues like bluetooth does?
maybe the bluetooth humidity sensors are cheaper than the zigbee ones and have displays (e.g. xiaomi?) just use a few ESP32s to extend the range..
Sure, fair enough.
🤷 if cost saving is wanted, it's worth noting that the Xiaomi Aqara door sensors also have temperature sensors in them, can kill two birds with one stone, but of course still no display if that's something that is desired
They're terrible temperature sensors though
Not wrong, I have 3 of them on 3 windows all in the same room, and they are reading 32C, 35C and 37C, it's also night time so can't be any issues of the sun shining on them.
I think im growing obsessed with temperatures and humidity... any recommendations for outdoor weather stations I can buy/build myself and connect to HA?
Where in the world?
Build it yourself probably esphome
I have a room with a ceiling fan/light fixture, and right now it has a smart bulb in it. The switch is a single slot (US) double switch, what are some budget friendly options for a smart switch? My goal is to control the fan, i don't really care about the light switch part since i have a bulb
Update: Looks like a Shelly relay might be a good option
