is anyone using an amazon echo (for the hardware) with HA and ada/almond?
hi all, sorry for the dumb q but i forgot to write it down. how do i see all my usb peripherals attached on HA, raspberry pi via terminal add-on?
basically all my usb except my coral seems to have stopped working. i have no idea what is going on.
cannot open /dev/ttyUSB1
Hi Everyone!! so normally I'm up here asking for help from a more Engineering sided view, but today I come to you with an electrical problem. Would there be any possibility that someone here has any knowledge for motors, windings, capacitors and AC Voltage ? 🙂
I'm trying to install some Sonoff IFAN modules in my home and im having issues properly wiring the fan motors. there seems to be "old" fans that have multiple coils in their motors and I think are not compatible with the IFAN. trying to understand what the proper wiring would be.
hi i know practically nothing about LED stips, but I've bought an apartment with some and would like to smartify them. They are analogue, single temp white and you turn them on/off and brighten/dim by touching and holding one end. As far as I can tell I could put a GLEDOPTO Zigbee controller between the transformer and the stip. But will the touch on/off continue to work and will it not prevent the controller from switching the strips
Hey All, How concerned should I be about using a Sonoff ZBmini on a standard 15A circuit?
In regards to what?
Is it safe? Should I be concerned that it's underpowered and could fail, catch fire, etc. on a circuit that includes multiple outlets, one of which I already know has a 7.5A space heater on it?
Well, if the power load exceeds the rated one on sonoff zbmini anything can hapoen
Including fire
It's generally a bad plan to deliberately overload any electrical device/circuit
Not planning to deliberately overload. Just worried about what would happen if the circuit was overloaded.
Is there any wiring setup that would protect the zbmini from the current on the whole circuit?
yes, leave it in the box and use a more adequate zigbee relay
the ratings on the box aren't for fun, and chinese ratings are especially optimistic
bummer. does anyone know of any good Zigbee relays that are more trustworthy?
I know these are probably the best https://shelly.cloud/products/shelly-1-smart-home-automation-relay/ but I was hoping to stick with Zigbee rather than wifi
Does anyone know of a good guide on smart locks that would operate without requiring cloud/internet access? for example, a smart lock that can be directly unlocked with a phone app or via phone app + self-hosted solution..?
and by guide I mean a listing of various locks and their pros/cons...
Zigbee or Z-Wave
Connect those to HA, and then use HA via your phone, or via an automation
Something like this?
https://smile.amazon.com/August-Wi-Fi-Smart-Generation-Silver/dp/B082VXK9CK
anyone using roborock s6 max v?
is there an actual question related to the device you mentioned?
I am trying to determine which smart lock to get so I was asking about that specific one on amazon.. I would prefer not to be dependent on cloud servers... hence the questions...
that line was not meant for you
Sorry- though might I suggest its best to use the "reply to" feature to avoid confusion..? 🙂
it is not, it is actually the worst
the lock or the reply to? 🤔
its too late for this, i give up
yes
as far as i read roborock app cant connect to home assistant and i need to use mi home, but since this model has camera and mi home app dont show it i was curious if there is a solution
Home Assistant does not have a Roborock integration, it can be integrated only if it available in the Mi Home ecosystem
thats the part i know
but the mysterious part for me to learn is, if i can use camera in mi home ecosystem
other than that i can use it in mi home
no
thanks 🙂
but this might solve some issues https://community.home-assistant.io/t/custom-component-roborock-communication/229032
I have three older gen kwikset smartcode 888 zwave locks that work pretty well
Most or maybe all the kwikset can easily be rekeyed yourself to the same key which is nice
That seems like a nice bonus..
Plus it’s a trusted brand
Although if your house has windows then robbers are gonna come in regardless lol
yeah.. locks just keep the honest people honest.. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
And in my case my cat from opening a door
But yea man no need to buy HomeKit or Alexa or whatever locks. Just zwave or zigbee and add to hass
You’ll need a zigbee or zwave mesh already setup tho
yeah.. I made the mistake of not looking too close at the leviton wifi system.. only to discover they are completely dependent on cloud commands.. if internet is out, leviton lights wont work .. at all.. 😦
Fun
I mean, when internet and wifi are up, it works fine.. just.. well.. grrr
I still have hue bulbs as well...
Are the Leviton zigbee or some proprietary thing like Insteon
leviton switches are straight-up wifi.. they show up in my client list on the router with each one getting an IP...
I thouht I would be able to hit them with an http-formatted command string or similar to get them to do something.. well.. no. 😛
I have my eye on creating a completely low-power ecosystem for a motor home when my wife and I retire.. something that can go offgrid entirely and still do stuff...
I went zwave for smart switches and locks and zigbee for bulbs / motion sensors
I don’t see much benefit for much smart stuff in a small camper
I ended up with a ZigBee transceiver recently .. it was in a box of electronics stuff I got from a friend who was getting out of the home brew biz.. I wonder what I can do with it.. ? 🤔
And even if you wanted a couple motion sensors or something you wouldn’t need wan access for anything if you did it right
Zigbee uses a ‘controller’ often a usb stick with a little radio in it
I can see a lot of benefit for home automated stuff in a motor home- especially when it comes to conserving and monitoring energy use..
Yours might be too old to really use if it’s a hand me down
They’re only like $30 on Amazon for latest gen like the sonoff zigbee dongle
Once you have that you can pair most zigbee devices to it using zha or Zigbee2mqtt
the one I got is a exegin Q51 ZigBee Transceiver
Look at the pins in #zigbee-archived
There’s a list of suggested controllers
If yours isn’t on it, I wouldn’t use it
woof. I just looked up this one.. seems its a fancy one.. designed for developers it seems...
yeah.. this is a dev tool... hmmm...
'Probe and analyze a 802.15.4 PAN from anywhere. Capture packets on any 802.15.4 network with the using the Q51 and then send them back to your workstation via TCP/IP. Analyze PAN activity in real time or offline Wireshark®. Exegin has enabled Wireshark with protocol dissectors for 802.15.4, 6LoWPAN, ZigBee, and the ZigBee cluster libraries'
Hi , all I m syam and I a need help
I need t know how this product works on sensing the human presence and also the hardware used in it
It measures temperature, humidity, air pressure, volatile organic compounds (VOC), CO2 concentration as well a brightness
Nothing there about presence detection
body's micro movements
I'd guess it uses mmWave?
Sensor Technology High frequency
HF-system 7,2 GHz
Seems likely
Hello, I have an Interlogix NetworX NX-6 Security System Kit with 3 NX-108E Keypad (NX-6-KIT) alarm and I would like to integrate it into homeassistant, what would be the easiest way?
Thank you

ok
Hi! I am thinking about buying av Intel NUC for home assistant and wondering if any of these CPUs could do the job? https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i3-3217U-vs-Intel-Celeron-847/764vs661
To give you an idea, a Pi4 scores around 900
Hi, I'm stuck and hopefully, someone can help me. I've updated my HA Blue to HA OS 9.0.rc1 today, and now it does nothing. It won't boot. So I attached a screen and saw I should go into emergency mode. I swapped the jumper and I com into the bootloader, but my keyboard is not recognized. Any ideas? It seems that there is no power on the USB Ports at all
FYI, you can edit and delete your own posts
you're best bet is to check is someone has made a 3rd party integrations via HACS. I was lucky enough that someone did for my QolSys panel.
Hey folk, I'm looking for to get some LED controllers (WRGB) & relays (e.g. consumption monitor and remote switch for the water heater) and my best bet seems to be Shelly. I don't want to pollute the wifi anymore than necessary, so I'm looking into zwave/zigbee/thread alternatives, can you recommend anything?
Gledopto do a nice range of LED controllers
Your other choices likely depend on where in the planet you are, though #zigbee-archived has a pinned message with known working hardware
just don't buy Tuya ones, they're always horrible
thanks! I was actually just looking at them 😄 How do I pick the good from the cruddy? I'm just getting into home automation and it's been sort of overwhelming.
the thing with tuya is that hardware is already crappy, the controllers can fail due to low specs. not to mention iffy zigbee integrations depending on the controller manufacturer
there are some good ones but that's an exception
gledopto is making zigbee ones for years and they've been solid
Thanks a ton! I'll look deeper and browse a bit more around blackadder.com 😄
Additional Q, actually - is my worrying about wifi pollution even warranted? What's the lower bound of devices that can become problematic (apartment building)
Depends on your WiFi router/access points really
A couple of dozen more devices shouldn't cause issues unless it's really trash
but when i enquired the same to a siemens engineer , he told me that we can do it with ultrasonic and co2 sensors
is that possible
It's possible... Technically
Good to hear, I am about to buy heaps for all downlights at my new house. I have 1 light coming this month as a sample
Anything is possible
Whether it works well... that's entirely different
could someone recommend an energy monitor that's inexpensive and can handle continuous load around 15A@125V? Looking to monitor voltage, current, and kWh. I have a Sonoff plug, but I'm not so sure I would trust it for continuous load at max. Ambient temperature is also a bit above average, at ~30C. I don't mind having to do a bit of wiring or using a breakout box/rail
edit/add: I do not need switching capability, but it would be fine if present
hi i have a stupid question
how do you 'screw' the wires into the gledopto 5 in 1 controller
looks like maybe you push down the pin, insert wire, and let go for a friction hold?
thanks that worked : )
hmm i cant pair it now for some reason, its just blinking and not being pink like it says it should be
odd
check connections?
like wiring?
its definitely correct
it just wont connect
HA and Hue both cant find it
ahhhh
my power supply was busted
Is there something like a portable, battery powered Wifi speaker which could be controlled by HA (Media tab)?
Sonos Move?
Hmmm, i googled it but would prefer something smaller
long story short, ive got a newborn and wanted something for playing lullabies, what i could put anywhere where the baby sleeps at the moment
there's a huge selection of BT speakers out there, but even if i would add BT adapter to my HA, the hardware is in my loft so wouldnt have BT reception around the home
something like a battery powered Google Home Mini would be perfect
so a google home mini with a battery pack?
Esphome just released Bluetooth proxies if you wanted to go that route. https://esphome.github.io/bluetooth-proxies/
Would that work for my use case (playing audio on a portable by speaker)?
I've been trying to connect to some Tenda Beli SP9 plugs, I tried the solution here https://community.home-assistant.io/t/tenda-beli-pingable-but-unreachable/356526 but no joy and I'm not able to change the beacon setting in my router to see if thats the problem as well. (I think, I logged into it and couldn't see it anywhere?). I did come across this https://github.com/Tediore/tendabeli2mqtt as well but I'm not sure how to go about implementing it. I can ping the plugs just not able to get them to show up in HA. Anyone have suggestions?
Current yaml https://paste.debian.net/1253316/
Definitely not, there is another project that uses ESP32 to play sound but the quality is terrible
due to bandwidth?
i wondered about that but i didnt go down the rabbit hole searching
Would this work for always on wireless microphones you think?
Jusst imagining some places Id like to possibly be able to use a home grown voice assistance but not need a rasp pi, or something sitting
Has anyone played with pipewire? It might be possible to use pipewire to accomplish this with wifi instead or really just any rtsp stream which would be super fancy/cool
Not sure, but my guess is no
I’ve steered clear from any Bluetooth stuff for smart home except for these cheap $4 xaiomi temp/humidity sensors
kk, Im all wifi right now honestly. I wouldnt mind a wifi always streaming mic, but I dont think anyone really makes that. The closest is likely just buying a camera and covering it lol
I haven’t delved into diy voice assistants really.. from what I’ve heard there’s not really a great solution
Pipewire looks neat
I would love something that even approached the utility of Amazon Echo units.. they work well, but its kinda a deal with the devil in a way ¯_(ツ)_/¯ This one looks most promising so far:
https://mycroft.ai/
Yea I’m not willing to put a google or amazon device on my lan
I havent played with any of those to be honestly but they seem interesting. Right now Im mostly just using mine for actionable notifications, like oh a person was detected in the kitchen, ask if the lights should be turned on(yes/no)
I picked apple as my poison and use a couple HomePod minis but don’t have them setup with hass for TTS or anything
Only thing I use mine for with hass is if music is playing in bathroom don’t turn off lights
Along with other sensors
Why wouldn’t you just automate on motion alone tho?
I have eight echo units and use them day in and day out. I have routines for bedtime and good morning and workout and away from home.. they are really neato.. but I know Bezo's crew is chomping up my data.. and now that my roomba is gunna be a part (of amazon), they will also know my home layout 🤦
Sadcat
I dont always want the lights on when during the day there isnt much need for instance(I could probably solve that with a lux sensor), or at night, etc..
Alexa routines/skills seem great, but yea no go cuz Amazon lol
I also use it for more complicated things though like at dinner time it will ask me if its dinner or not and then will start playing music, turn on lights, etc..
Yea
I would love to know if anyone has had success migrating from echo to mycroft.ai
Someone can correct me if im wrong but I believe mycroft requires rasp pi's in every room basically
yeah Im amazed no one has made a decent server based assistant
IE I can place dumb mics, or use existing video/mic streams and funnel it to an assistant to act on
There’s also https://raspiaudio.com/ but apparently they aren’t great
First Ive heard of it will look at it
I thought that’s what Ada, almond, etc do
You train them and self host
FYI, there's a #voice-assistants-archived channel
I think they still need pis in each room unless Im mistaken
I am really disappointed that the echo hasn't "grown up" more.. they work on making it sell more stuff to you, but not get better as an assistant.. for example I have to use separate commands such as :
Alexa, turn on the kitchen
Alexa, set the kitchen to %100
Alexa, set the kitchen to Soft White
rather that speech parsing like:
Alexa, turn on the kitchen light and set it to soft white at %100
Can’t you just make a hass scene and add it to Alexa then trigger the scene that way?
It’s shit on iOS too
Yea I’d think so too
Being honest, I am new to HASS and haven't set up any routines. 😛 I only got as far as installing a HASS VM on my unraid server.. then the VM died and I haven't revived it yet. I am lurking on here hoping to get re-motivated 😁😂🤣
not ideal IMO. Id like a self hosted assistant I can setup a bunch of streams it just listens to and processes
Never had issues tho.. how’d you kill it
Ye
I just installed an August smart lock on the front door last night and I have a Konneted.io alarm module showing up today or tomorrow. I'm hoping it will motivate me to setup HASS again ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I moved it off unraid to a pi cuz 1. My hardware is old and 2. Separate from my server so if server is down smart home isn’t
You installed the qcow2 image from releases right? Pretty easy to just start fresh
I literally noticed that the VM was GONE from the unraid instance. As if I had never installed it. 🤔 I only noticed because I was checking on something else 😛
Does august use a hub or?
I use #zwave-archived locks
Yeah I goofed on the august and ordered the lock w/o the WiFi hub so the unit I have is bluetooth only.. I have the hub arrving today..
Then you probably have your shares setup wrong or something unraid related lol
Eww
Sounds like you still have time to rewind and buy better stuff lol
Part of what makes hass so great is you don’t need other hubs. You use zigbee and or zwave and add all the things directly to hass
IF I had to guess, I think the SSD cache drive where I kept the VM image got full and the VM was unable to write an update or something and it corrupted to the point it isnt even shown as a VM. the Vdisk is still there.. I have mover running more often now to avoid running the cache disk out of space
What locks did you get @cold moon ?
I don’t even use mover. I have vm vdisks and docker.img / docker folders on ssds and downloads just writes to array
I bought kwikset zwave locks
(I can still return the locks as I got from amazon prime and I have a return window) 🙂
I cheaped out and got kwikset smartcode888 cuz they were $100 instead of $200+
what do you use for a z-wave bridge for HASS?
I use an si labs usb stick but I’d suggest just buying a zooz or aeotec 700 series
Bonus for kwikset locks- they can all be rekeyed at home so they all unlock with same key
Not sure if that’s the case with others
If you have the funds I’d buy 700 series locks tho
the august has a "door detection" function and can tell if door is open/closed and it has auto lock/unlock if you approach the door it auto unlocks for you and locks when you leave even if you forget.. which seemed nice 🙂
Also you can’t really get away with just buying a zwave dongle and locks. You’ll need powered repeaters like light switches to have a decent mesh
august also worked with the existing deadbolt.. it just screws to the inside of the door and uses the deadbolt hardware i already had
You can get recessed door sensors for like $35 for open/close
I use one for bathroom to keep lights on when in shower
The deadbolt itself isn’t built into the august Device?
nope
August just like sits over it?
Weird
But yea man rule of thumb for smart home stuff with hass is don’t buy anything that needs it’s own hub
is there a zwave to wifi bridge? my server for HASS will be a VM running in a shed behind our house... the door is pretty far from it...
Everything can be bought with zigbee, zwave, or Wi-Fi
Best to use wired zwave devices such as light switches that act as repeaters
all my light switches and wall modules are leviton wifi.. I discovered they REQUIRE internet AND AWS servers to be up or they wont work 🤦
Yuck
I do have Hue bulbs.. lots of those.. but I think their mesh is proprietary, no?
No easy way to say this but I’d be replacing those as you go
Their hub is a proprietary zigbee one but you can move the bulbs and sensors off of it to a zigbee dongle
I just did that myself
47 devices lol
Lights are quicker to turn on now
any advantage to moving off the hue hub?
oh.. quick reasponse time since no action->cloud->bulb
And I can now use zigbee groups which sends one command to turn on a bunch of bulbs instead of hue’s way
Which means my 11 bulbs in kitchen all turn on at the same time
No their hub works locally unless you invoke via Siri / google iirc
It’s just cuz their hub sucks lol
I have 9 kitche hue bulbs and on occasion a command will leave a single bulb "hanging" at a previous setting and I have to ask alexa a second time to do the change to catch the straggler
It’s actually not that bad to switch over
Ya fuck that
how did you "update" the hue bulbs to use something other than a hue hub?
You buy a zigbee dongle or PoE controller then once that’s setup in hass you open hue app and delete bulbs one by one. They instantly go into pairing mode and Zigbee2mqtt or zha running in hass joins them up
Rinse and repeat
huh.. nifty!
Only thing you lose is the 50 hue scenes…
But you can recreate them in hass if you want
so since I have Ethernet and poe around the house.. is there a z-wave bridge that can go Ethernet to zigbee to reach my server in the back shed? thats where I will be running HASS
Two separate protocols bro
phooey 😛
Zigbee for hue needs a zigbee coordinator
Zwave for locks etc needs a zwave controller
so I should look for a zigbee smart lock to avoid having too many bridges..?
You can
Some people do only zwave or only zigbee
I wanted smart bulbs and smart switches and zigbee smart switches weren’t appealing
So I went with both technologies
huh. kwikset has a zigbee smart lock that seems to work like the august since it uses the existing deadbolt: https://smile.amazon.com/Kwikset-Convert-Zigbee-Electronic-Conversion/dp/B09HYYZH6R/ref=sr_1_3
a lot cheaper than the august! hmmmm 🤔
Confirm it works with zha or Zigbee2mqtt
Whichever you want to use
Most here suggest z2m and that’s what I’m using
the lock is listed as having "Zigbee 3.0"...
Each device needs to be supported. In general most everything is but still worth confirming
yup. thats the puppy.. seems the august is going bak then 😄 Thanks for your help here!
yep
now, what kind of zigbee hub.. the server that will be running HASS will be in a shed behind the house so attaching a USB dongle there is suboptimal as it isnt in the middle of the house.. I would prefer to have a wifi to zigbee solution as I have PoE and it would be easy to assign a DHCP reservation for it...
the most common ones suggested here are the sonoff usb dongle or the tube ones
currently out of stock tho
err wait maybe not
they are in stock
that looks very DiY 🤔 Like an ESP32 or ESP8266 with a 3d printed case and an antenna...?
kinda pricey but very highly recommended here
it is lol
i havent seen any other PoE controllers tho
ah there are a few on here: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/information/supported_adapters.html
huh.. they have one as a raspberry pi hat? I have a few raspi zeros laying around doing absolutely nothing.... hmmmm
i pm'd you btw
Thanks 👍🙂
ye
yeah i still have old pi zeros waiting for a project
i even bought a https://clusterhat.com/ to play with docker swarm and never really did anything with it -.-
but yeah back to zigbee coordinators.. hard for me to suggest anything other than tube's for PoE cuz i've seen a lot of folks here using it and liking it (and tube is active in this server)
so this one "CC2652P2 Based Zigbee to PoE Coordinator 2022" is what all the kool kidz are using..? 🙂
ye
price tag hurts but i'm sure it's justified somehow -.-
i use a $30 usb dongle ($20 on ali e)
TBH, I kinda dig the home=brew DiY look and feel.. seems much better than dealing with GiantFaclessCorpoation™
only downside i see is if it dies or something and you need a new one you cant just go on amazon and get a new one in 2 hours lol
if I can put a few bux in a small biz pocket, I prefer to do that ¯_(ツ)_/¯
ye
what kind of temp and humidity sensor do you recommend / use for HA?
first you gotta pick zwave, zigbee, wifi @polar crest
or bt technically
for zigbee you prob want an aqara one, for zwave maybe aeotec or zooz, for wifi not sure, for bt you can get some really cheap xaiomi ones but crap range
Xiaomi Aqara (Zigbee)
So if I go with ZigBee, then I move my hue bulbs to the TubesZB, will they participate in the meshing to get the zigbee signal all around the house to non Hue ecosystem zigbee devices..?
hue bulbs act as repeaters for zigbee yea
blue are all my hue bulbs and green are non-repeating sensors (end devices)
i need more sensors -.-
whats a "cat light" 🤔
I have a room where the litter boxes are I call the cat room lol
heh.. I have a "catio" .. three level structure on the back patio.. there is a "cat door" that goes from the kitchen to the catio and I keep the food and literboxes out there.. the cats bask out there on nice days.. they are indoor-only kitties
Nice
I want a couple litter robots but I’m not down to pay $600 each
Or whatever crazy price they are
There’s a home assistant integration lol
u have one of those laundry sensors that is getting bricked soon..?
I thought about buying one and trying to reverse engineer
the laundry sensor is a hue motion/temp/lux sensor
this a good place to ask about which rgbw strip lights to get, and... how to configure them with a controller, and then... how to control them???
Backstory: I have only used hue strip lights (which, I kinda hate in any scenario where you have to cut them)...
diy?
only addressable rgbw strips are sk6812 and you choose warm white, cool white, or natural white for the w, then you use a controller - either wifi or zigbee
you're gonna be cutting, soldering, and adding power injection depending on length tho
off the shelf strips are usually more expensive (such as hue, govee)
I'm good with cutting and soldering... just, the hue strips kinda suck for that...
i use wled - https://github.com/Aircoookie/WLED with wifi controllers for led strips around the house
gledopto zigbee devices have been suggested here too
you can either make your own with an esp8266/esp32 and fuses and such, or buy a board such as: https://quinled.info/pre-assembled-quinled-dig-quad/
I have a technical question about the Shelly EM. I live in america, so split-phase power. I want to be able to check if my washer and dryer are on. A vibration sensor does not seem like a very reliable solution (but I could be convinced otherwise) so I was thinking about using a shelly EM. I noticed on the website it says both inputs have to be on the same phase. I have an electric dryer (so across both phases) and a normal electric washer (so across only 1 phase and neutral). Can I connect both of these to 1 shelly EM?
the shelly EM seems like a good solution assuming it will work in this situation, because it has 2 inputs (so I only need 1), uses current monitoring clamps (so I dont have to touch the high voltage wiring myself), works over LAN and is relatively cheap
im not an electrician or anything tho so im not sure it will
do the gledopto zigbee devices have just a white bulb that can change color temp?
or... hue?
or... any zigbee bulb?
I could only find color bulb with gledopto...
the hue product description is too ambiguous to tell if it's only dimmable, or can change color temp too...
You said led strips not bulb lol..
lol - some guy posted a review for the hue bulb pissed he can't use his dimmer switch... "this bulb isn't dimmable"
🤦
yes... earlier I was asking about strips
sorry... should have made it more clear this was a new question. 🙂
I will look into your strip suggestions
Ya cuz you never replied to my previous messages lol
sorry... work
Athom sells rgbw-cct bulbs for way cheaper than hue but they’re Wi-Fi not zigbee
Or you can buy like ikea or whatever other zigbee rgbw bulbs
Oh you just want ambient color temp white
Ya those exist too.. hue sells a couple
so... I am looking at a 4 pack of hue white bulbs, which I think is the color temp changing bulbs... but... it says: "White (dimmable only)"
Hmm is it not possible to drag/drop images into this chat..? 🤔
nah
well phoey.
imgur or post to another discord server and copy the image link
I just got a Konnected IO unit was gunna drop a pic here to show off 😄
is putting pics in chat something that isnt done in discord circles or is taboo or something...?
it's just this server
never seen any other server with these kind of restrictions
you cant use external emojis either
is it something that can be overcome by users buying nitro or other perk things?
external emoji is a paid service that you can get from discord (become a server booster to unlock it)
no it's intentionally disabled in this server
external emojis disabled due to people abusing it (what i was told when i asked a long time ago)
and pictures disabled due to people posting pictures of text instead of posting to a site like pastebin and linking it
huh. weird. mkay I guess... whelp.. time to dive into docs for konnected.io alarm thingamajig. wIsh me luck! 🙋♂️
I shudder at the thought of pictures of text
(I like pics of PCBs and server racks and the like.. cable porn is nifty too) ¯_(ツ)_/¯
lots of other situations when it's useful for gui and other things tho
explaining how to do something in gui <- picture showing how
banning the behavior seems overkill.. just ban the user that creates the issues ...?
not my party not my rules lol
¯_(ツ)_/¯
just reverberating what i've been told
@cold moon - you said you have hue, and can control them directly with HA (with out the hub)?
does that include the light sync to music?
well not directly with hass
zigbee2mqtt controls them via a coordinator (usb stick in my case)
but that's running inside haos
light sync to music?
hue has a feature where you can sync the lights to the music, so... kinda like a light show (say... for a party). Kids like it
i have that setup for my tv with hyperion-ng
man... so much to learn.
i thought that required a $200 device or something
that is HDMI sync
when googling hue sync that is all that shows up
not sure where you're getting the music sync from
ah i think i found it
bumping this
https://www.philips-hue.com/en-us/explore-hue/propositions/entertainment/sync-with-music which method are you using?
could you get a smart plug and detect usage that way?
i cant really answer your question but i think most people use clamps behind breaker box
it kinda feels like you arent reading what i say then responding to that and just asking new questions lol
not really, I dont think thhey make monitoring plugs that can do the big chonky 240V plugs
(I don't have experience with the Shelly EM)
oh, good point. my dryer is gas/electric and uses 110v
anyways seems like hue bridge is required for sync with their bulbs
Has anyone had issues with Solhetta Ikea GU10 bulbs flickering when used with a dimmer?
It says they're "dimmable" and generally work fine with my Tuya SWTZ73SL, but when I put the brightness above 84%, they dim a touch and you can clearly see a flicker pattern
Hello everyone, i wonder what kind of hardware you all are using to install ha on ? i am looking for a new minimal system with a harddisk
J3455
Hey there! I've been wanting to pick up a home energy monitor ever since the energy monitoring came to HA. I personally use zigbee (with ZHA), and i've found this aeotec device (https://www.amazon.com/Aeotec-Aeon-Labs-ZW095-ZW095/dp/B00XD8WZX6/ref=asc_df_B00XD8WZX6/) however it's Z-Wave Plus and not Zigbee. Anybody have an equivalent for zigbee?
I've also looked at the sense boxes, but I don't want to depend on cloud services.
Any suggestions of getting 32 wired door contact sensors into home assistant
Buy the ones supported by an integration
thank you 🙂
You can get a mini PC with a more modern processor, 8gig ram and 256 gb SSD for around 150$ and it will be overkill for just home assistant
yes
Wall panel, ceiling panel, floor panel? Electrical standard? Communication standard?
Hey guys, any suggestions for smart plugs / outlets that can alert me when the power goes out? We have two freezers that are on a breaker that id like to know so we don’t ruin a bunch of meat
That'll be difficult since they would have no power
anything that goes "offline" in HA would work
That’s true, I guess technically anything would😂😂😂
That would require HA and the networking stack to be on a UPS
A smart breaker might also be an idea
Recommend any? How diy-able?
Off the shelf ZigBee or WiFi
Either
There are certain sites with lists of such devices
Hi all,
so I currently have eWeLink smart plugs which have built in power consumption monitoring. In HA it can only display this data through a HACS add on. I also have Kasa Smart plugs which can show this on the main overview. Is there any other affordable smart plugs which can display power consumption on an Overview card?
I am new to HA 🙂
Hey guys.. I have a Zigbee Garage opener and I thought I can use a Zigbee Button (Silvercrest) and leave it in car, so when I come home I can simply press the button for opening the Garage.. But there is a big problem:
When I'm at home it opens the garage randomly without me pressing the button! Do you think this is a hardware failure with the button?
Are you using #automations-archived to work with the button, or did you use #zigbee-archived binding?
how can i confirm that my coral device is being recognized by HA on my Pi4? I searched coral and looked through all the USB connections under system > hardware > all hardware. I see my SSD and Conbee Stick, but no Coral. Any thoughts? I searched online but i didn’t see anything about it potentially using another name on the path
anyone know of a touch-to-open style smart lock they'd recommend for use with HA?
With the apparent demise of Smarthome and Insteon, is there a forum on how to repair failed devices? I found two interesting sites https://www.rototron.info/insteon-plm-repair-tutorial/ and https://smartenit.com/shop/upgrade-repair/. I have a 2476S which has gone "dark". I read that changing the electrolytic caps often fixes this (I just ordered a 6.7uF 400V cap)in hopes).
I am starting my adventure with HA and I would like to reach for NUC-based equipment.
What to pay attention to when buying, so that it works without any problems with accessories for several years.
Regards.
p.s. I am looking at D54250WYK - any opinions?
It's going to be ok
My rule of thumb for a happy start is:
-
= 2K CPUmark
-
= 2 Cores
-
= 2 GB RAM
(and no SD cards)
i use umbrel and forgot my username and password
Not really hardware related though - more a question for the #installation-archived channel
ok
but work it on umbrel?
Did you try it?
but which commands?
@frozen salmon When using Discord's Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Use Shift + click on the Reply option, or click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
You have to change this every time (thank the Discord devs for that).
Assuming that your "umbrel" install uses a Python venv then activating the venv and following
hass --script auth --config /config change_password existing_user new_password
``` may work, but I have no idea how umbrel (whatever that is) installs HA
We can but hope it uses Docker, but that's likely a forlorn hope
Your first start is to find out how Umbrel "installs" HA - Docker, Python venv, or something else
can Sonoff S31 smart plug be used with Toya without flashing it?
anybody have any good suggestions for cheap smart thermostats?
Thanks to Blakadder, I've ordered a GL-S10 Bluetooth Gateway to use with the new ESPhome Bluetooth proxy (https://esphome.github.io/bluetooth-proxies/). Now I'm looking for some bluetooth hardware to buy. I know there are lots of cheap bluetooth thermostats like the Xiaomi ones. Is there also other types of cool bluetooth hardware supported?
There are several options.
-
If you would want to use the Home Assistant Bluetooth protocol Xiaomi LYWSD03MMC (https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/1005004087916750.html?aff_fcid=396a12a1142b45c5ae33087f5d84648f-1663007781827-01110-_DDcEtQR&tt=CPS_NORMAL&aff_fsk=_DDcEtQR&aff_platform=shareComponent-detail&sk=_DDcEtQR&aff_trace_key=396a12a1142b45c5ae33087f5d84648f-1663007781827-01110-_DDcEtQR&terminal_id=0b52147accf14f22be65a495503b22f5&afSmartRedirect=y) with custom ATC firmware *https://pvvx.github.io/ATC_MiThermometer/TelinkMiFlasher.html)
I'm sorry you said thermostat not thermometer 🤦♂️
haha well, i do appreciate that nonetheless. honestly might be useful to have some thermostats in my server rack and maybe one in my freezer since i literally just had to toss most of the stuff in mine due to a "the freezer door didn't close fully" mishap
I have a Surface pro 4 in a docking station and if I restart the tablet when it's connected to the tablet it won't connect to internet or enable the cam. So any automatic restarts are failing. I always have to restart it disconnected and then connect it when everything is launched. Any suggestions how I fix this?
I guess it's trying to find any gear connected to the docking?
What is the current go to as far as smart light switch or thermostat that works with google home / home assistant / and the apple one
I just bought my house and want to put like 20 in
hell, I'm trying new BT integration, and I have tp-link BT400 and BT500 usb devices. Both of them are unsupported by HA (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/bluetooth) which is strange, because for example UB500 has same RTL8761BU chipset as supported device Asus USB-BT500. AFAIK in linux is only one kernel module for RTL8761BU , so why is tplink not supported and asus supported ? Is there a chance to replace firmware, or make tplink BT supported ?
From
Frequent connection failures with active connections
I suspect that making them supported is going to be beyond the developers of HA
It either needs a firmware update (from the manufacturer) or it's a hardware level issue (in which case there's no fixing it)
do you know any BT5.0 USB device with firmware update capability ?
No
actually I don't have tplink, it is ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, with chipset CSR8510A10, but still with connection issues
idVendor 0x0a12 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd
idProduct 0x0001 Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode)
Are there any zigbee wall switches that have motion sensors built in?
Is it possible to find any wired/LAN temperature sensors that works with home assistant. DIY is not an option, need to be a buyable stable product 🙂
Sonoff makes a wired device that you can flash Tasmota that connects to wifi that accepts a temperature sensor
So it looks like i messed up my Zigbee adaptor while trying to install the Zigbee2MQTT firmware on it. anyone here that can help me repair it?
its a SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus ZBDongle
i was flashing it and my pc rebooted
so i think the bootloader got corrupted
Did you try flashing again?
yes it wont connect now
all the leds are working
but the device does not connect
or reply
Then you're probably correct
is there a way to reflash the bootloader?
Over JTAG with a programmer
i think i have a jtag programer
any documents or places that i could read and follow
and i guess the main thing is is there a dump of the bootloader anywhere
You flash the firmware,the firmware contains the bootloader
If it's cc2652 were talking about
yes
so i cant get it to connect
but i have another more important issue that my wife is ready to kill be about 🙂
so i wanted to add my house ceiling fans to home assistant
and i bought 3x ifan04's
i havent had time to remove the wall switches
so the family has accidentally turned the switch on/off and then used the remote to control them
this has made the remotes pair with multiple devices
any way to reset this? they are all running tasmota (ifan03 profile since there isnt one for ifan04)
also, for some reason the devices are only passing one device (fan or light) over to alexa with the official home assistant integration
Is there anyway to test the bluetooth on a device without a bluetooth device?
Basically just want to see if my device supports it or not
If I have a older ceiling fan with a light kit on it, how would I retro add a smart home controller that can both control the fan, and light separately, but from a single power source?
Any ideas? (preferably Zigbee or Zwave)
I have a rpi4 with home assistant os and a usb mic connected to it. Is there a way to increase the mics input volume?
It depends on what you are more comfortable with and the budget. Do you already have one of them set up already? I have had more problems with zwave over the years. When I did it for a living, it was a toss-up if I was going to make any money one a zwave install. Lutron always worked and hardly ever gave my any issues, UPB (PulseWorx) would be stable through direct lightning strikes to the houses.
well, the ceiling fans are existing, and currently have smartthings (switching to HA). just looking to see if I can add the ceiling fans/lights to the automation easily without getting a whole new smart fan
Sorry, didn't catch that you didn't wish to change the wall switch.
I don't mind changing the wall switch. But, I'd like to independently control the fan and fan light, and i think there's only 1 14/2 wire between the switch and fan box
Sounds like you’re looking for something like this: https://inovelli.com/products/red-series-fan-light-switch-z-wave
That looks promising... 🙂 I wonder if the control module at the fan will make a humming noise when it steps down the power for the various speeds of the fan...
I just got some Shelly Plus 1 PMs, and while configuring them to initially connect to my network I noticed that they no longer have a field to specify a custom NTP server. Anyone know how to manually set the NTP server? FW: 0.11.1
Hello, does anyone know of an entirely local and non invasive way of telling if water is flowing through a pipe?
I don't need flow rate, leak detection, or anything else.
I just need a local, non invasive way of getting a binary answer to "is water flowing through this pipe or not"
vibration/accelerometer?
The pipe is for my apartment's municipal heating system. Thus I can't cut into it and there is no vibration or anything, because water is going to be flowing through it, at the same rate, for months at a time.
I can feel when water is running through my pipes if I put my hand around them
These are relatively short lengths of pipe, that are mostly encased in the wall. You can hear the water flowing, but you can't reliably feel any noticeable vibrations, that would prevent false positives.
@terse iron you could use a microcontroller and a combination of sensors?
ok, what sensors?
what is the material of the pipe?
copper
you might be able to use a Hall effect sensor
it seems like a riddle - "can't see it, can't touch it, behind a wall..."
it's not behind a wall, it's just not going to vibrate
It's a copper pipe. Would that change in any way, with water through it?
I know I once saw a two piece ultrasonic sensor, that you could strap onto a pipe, that could detect flowing water, but I can't remember anything else about it
people use divining rods to detect water based utilities all the time, you might be able to use those principals to develop a basic sensor
what about temperature differential?
a sudden change in temp would likely indicate water (or lack there of)
how do you tell if the measured temperature is coming from the pipe, and not the air around it?
not that one in particular, but very similar
lol
How about a doppler effect sensor
NM. that likely won't penetrate copper
would have been an option for plastic
do you know of any such sensor?
ya, there are lots of cheap doppler sensors. RCWL-0516
I use one for presence / motion detection
help me understand what you're trying to accomplish?
detect water in a pipe, or flowing in a pipe, its very rare that a utility will leave a pipe dry
flowing in the pipe
I'd try a an analog microphone
like a MAX4466
then get a baseline (no flow) and then a measurement of flow, then compare the current value to the no flow baseline
you can use Tasmota to get a numerical reading off the analog pin on an ESP8266 or ESP32
$5k is a little steep
Slightly outside my budget for the project
The microphone idea might work, though.
Failing any sort of dedicated flowrate sensor
I don't have any copper pipe to test with, but I'm moderately confident you could get reasonable results with an ESP32 and a MAX4466
you might be able to use a piezo disc sensor also, just not sure if its sensitive enough
detecting anything inside a copper pipe is going to be really hard, so focus on the side effects of water flowing in the pipe. Sound, Temperature, vibration
if you don't mind me asking @terse iron, what do you gain by knowing flow/no-flow on the pipe?
I live in an apartment that has both municipal heating as well as an AC with cooling and heating modes.
I want to make my thermostat control the correct device, for the season.
If I set 25C for example and it's summer, I want HA to send that temp to my AC, in cooling mode.
If it's autumn or winter, but there's no municipal heating, I want that temp to be sent to my AC in heating mode.
If it's winter and there's municipal heating available, I want that temp to be sent to my radiator's TRV.
So, I need a way to tell if I have municipal heating or not.
A microphone on the pipe, detecting sound for 6 hours straight, might work, but the best solution would be to tell if there's water flowing through the radiator's pipes or not.
No, the municipality provides heating based on outside temperature and temperature predictions. They do not use scheduling.
the municipality doesn't provide that data on a website?
And no, a TRV can't sense flow, only temperature.
They do not. Can't be assed.
ya, other than using their weather prediction algorithm you're really kind of stuck
Exactly my dilema.
I'm putting together a Wemos and MAX4466 right now to see if I can sense flow
is the water low velocity or high velocity?
Please share your results. I don't have any microphones to work with, right now.
Low-ish velocity.
I've stopped it with my bare hand, one time when a pipe burst and I had to block off the entire thing
I've checked online for flowrate sensors and I can find a few, it's just that everything I can find is either a waterwheel type thing (need to cut open the pipe), medical grade (€€€€€) or industrial grade (big ass pipes)
ya, I couldn't find anything that was inexpensive
ultrasonic sensor might work also, but most of those are used to measure distance
@terse iron I just tested it (reading the analog pin), it kind of works at high velocity, but not at all for low velocity.
1.5 cm in some places, 2 cm in others
I think you could make a thermal mass flow sensor. Basically you have 2 temperature sensors and a heating element ====T==H==T====
you apply heat and if both temperature sensors increase evenly then no flow, if one heats faster then the other then you have flow
BBIAB
this describes how it works
Gonna try this first
I don't think I'm going to be able to find well enough calibrated temperature sensors, for the thermal mass flow sensor
Also, kinda iffy on having an unsupervised heating element, potentially having a thermal runaway event
Hello. Could somebody recommend window-contacts that work with homeassistant and don’t need another hub? I own an ikea tradfri and use HomeKit if that helps somehow
Buy a suitable #zigbee-archived coordinator, ditch the Tradfri hub and use ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT. Then you can use any Zigbee sensor, like the Xiaomi Aqara ones, or the Terncy ones.
How well does the Shelly power usage work? I'm looking at getting a few of their relays mainly for power consumption monitoring, just wondering how well they work, as well as they integrate with energy dashboard properly etc
they work well for standard home use, integration depends on the way you integrate
What are the ways? and which should I do? I don't have any Shelly atm
then you have time to do research 😉 one of the way is Shelly integration
theres so many options I don't really have time atm to research how well all the options work, is there at least 1 way it works properly? I can figure out which way easily enough, jus tnot every option for every device I could buy
if you dont have time use the Shelly integration
I know its an old device, but anyone here knowledgeable on the Aeon Labs Home Energy Meter DSB09? Its not giving correct readings and want to fix
Hey guys I have magnetic door latches, what is the best self hosted access control I can get?
It would be nice to have something where I can see who opens and when
All I can find is this but nothing in practice.., https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/6p2568/remote_door_locks/
@terse iron excellent find. I would totally try that before attempting to construct a thermal mass flow sensor
Ok i just ordered a Sonoff USB Dongle CC2652P - Zigbee
I have no long term experience but i have a Shelly 3EM and a Plus 1PM installed and the y were easy to get running and were easy to implement
Not sure if this belongs here – or in integrations. Sorry if it's the wrong place.
I'm looking for a mesh network that can run speed tests every X interval, output live usage, show count of connected devices, and potentially use device status for presence detection.
I was using Google Nest Wifi with the HACS integration, but it has stopped working due to some security changes on googles end.
Any recommendations?
Here is what I was doing before (bottom right)
https://i.imgur.com/0ivsTBT.png
What is your use case scenario?
Do you just want an easier way of unlocking those latches for your family, or to give temporary access to strangers (like for an AIRBNB)?
For me and my family. It’s for my house
Are those latches the type that open as long as they receive power and stay closed when they are not receiving power?
I believe so, I’ll get you pics later. Thanks so much 🙂
Final question. Do the latched doors have coverage from the wifi network that HA is running in?
Hi, i am running haos on a raspberry pi 3, using a rpi rf mod, so all gpio pins are blocked. Now its the Situation, that the cpu Temperature is constantly about 60 degree, often over 70, what makes the System crash. Is there a way of cooling it? I have put heatsinks on the cpu, but i think i need a fan... I thought about soldering it to the gpio Pins on the downside of the pi, but in haos i cant access gpio as far as i know. The fan should not run all the time (it is in the kitchen, the sound is very disturbing), only above a certain Temperature...
In tbe past i had such a fan running on raspberry os. Can someone help me? All posts concerning this topic are very old...
I have a Tuya doorbell camera. I can select a lot of triggers when I make an automation, but I can't find the trigger when someone rings the bell. Can that be added?
I don't suppose anyone has an emonPI shield on the same PI that runs Home Assistant OS? ... I'm evaluating HA atm on a PI 4. I currently have a PI 3 with emonPI shield, EmonCMS, NodeRed and Zigbee2MQTT ... I'd like to shift everything onto one easy to manage PI. But I'm unsure of whether I can add the emonPI directly to it, and install all the EmonCMS deps on the HA OS.
You'd need an #add-ons-archived that provided that
I'm aware there are various add-ons, I thought this may be the best place to ask on the off-change that anyone has an idea or direct experience of whether the hardware would cope with all that? ie. Pi4 running HA, and EmonPI shield, and all the software I mention. I know what I currently have on the Pi3 is fairly non-intensive, but I'm not sure how much overhead HA adds.
The problem is, you need an add-on for the software for the shield
You can't install anything directly on HAOS
@naive sierra run ha supervised on https://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspios_lite_arm64/images/raspios_lite_arm64-2022-09-07/2022-09-06-raspios-bullseye-arm64-lite.img.xz and find out
Hello anyone, Im trying to dump a firmware for a Bekken chip (BK7231T) and im having issues. is the process similar on ESP chips? anyone here that has done this in the past? thanks
yup im following the instructions, i have the board all set up with 2 usb to ttl adapters and im seeing output through realterm, so i know the board is connected correctly
but it wont dump
recheck the wiring and put the device in flash mode at the appropriate time
soldered to what?
using a usb-ttl, the CEN pin on the chip is routed to the reset pin on the usb
from the datasheet of the chip: 10 CEN I Low-level reset, high-level active (internally pulled high) Docking IC-CEN
and how does your "usb" know when to pull it low?
i swear you wrote you were following instructions...
lots of instructions out there and they are in polish, im trying here lol
i appreciate the help
"I use BKwriter (bk_writer1.60) to program the firmware, the programming / reading procedure is simple. We start the activity in the program, then turn off the WB2S from the power supply (and only from the power supply) with the button, and after a while we restore the power supply. The program should continue running as in the screenshot:"
emphasis on the programming / reading procedure is simple
in plainer english: start the reading operation and manually reset the module using the CEN pin
sometimes it takes a few tries
if you have the N instead of T version then bkwriter will most likely fail
i use the python programs since its easier to work with
so silly question
the chip has rx/tx1 and rx/tx2
i get info when i connect to rx/tx2
but nothing when i connect to rx/tx1
im guessing i might have burned them out or is that by design?
Is there some neat Wi-Fi /Zigbee or Bluetooth audio sounder I can attach to HA to make gentle bong or other notification sounds? Not looking for some great big loud burglar alarm sounder
ESP + MP3 player module
Anyone have the Aqara P1 motion sensors? Am I missing something or are the batteries just borderline impossible to take out?
You'll likely find more folks in #zigbee-archived - I have one, though I've not yet needed to replace any batteries
I have a couple of Philips Motion Sensors (SML001).
Recently one of them started to behave strangely. It just randomly sends "off" state while I'm clearly still in the zone, being in motion.
It doesn't resend the "on" state unless I will leave the room for a time (that is equal with it's configured delay time). It's like the sensor is still internally recognizing motion and since it supports continuous motion detection it will not resend the state until it changes. Except it already DID send the wrong state to HA and is happy about it.
How can I "debug" this problem?
Using latest Deconz and Conbee2 stick with lastest firmware.
Battery is freshly charged.
I had tried removing it, reset and re-pair again.
Don't think such devices exist. Use a GFCI breaker or a GFCI receptacle upstream and then use a regular smart receptacle
There are some levitron and eaton ones that exist and are gfci but none seem to integrate into HA
I was hoping someone had one they are using or something
Not to my knowledge, I've never seen the devices you mention either though
You'll want to ask in #zigbee-archived - or possibly over on the deCONZ Discord server
How can I send picture in this chat?
How should I wire two of this switches?
I have Y wall switch, with common Line
Hy. I am new here, want to start with HA. I have some experiance with programing, docker etc since i work in IT, but want some advice over hardware. What are your recomendations? I will start with HA on it, but in the future maybe even plex, and some other stuff. What HW do you suggest for god price? Maybe something for max 200€? i dont know if RP will be strong enough?
Pi4+SSD is a pretty good starter platform, and may do you for a long time
Beginning to wonder if my Kingston SSD is failing on my Raspberry Pi 4 setup. I was having to unplug the power to reboot HA as connectivity would completely stop. This was happening every once in awhile. Last few weeks every week. Two days ago I experienced this error in linked image. This morning locked down again. Pinging IP I get response, but can't access dashboard most of the time or SSH in. Couple of times dashboard would come up and only ZigBee and WiFi devices were controllable but no system functions or add-ons were accessible. Any troubleshooting ideas?
Can i run both Plex + HA on one raspbarry?
I will use docker. Forgot to mention 🙂
In the future maybe even some other things... So maybe i would prefer some mini pc? or am i wrong?
Any advice for mini pc? If some of you have some good experiance 😄
old laptop
Hm. Ok 🙂 Will try.
Buying a used nuc on eBay isn’t a bad idea
One with intel quicksync for Plex transcoding in the future will be useful
first you need to establish how much power you need and how much money you're prepared to part with
Money probably something arround 100-200€
I think you guys across the pond have a harder time finding cheap good used stuff online don’t you?
fewer failed tech startups here 😄
I think their businesses are just smarter about ecycling and reselling for a better price
Instead of letting the guy who runs IT just take it all home lol
Or selling it for pennies to a reseller
I’d buy a thin client or cheap nuc for hass and build out a whitebox nas when the time comes and the HDDs are ready for a case if I was him
NUC looks good yeah. 🙂 Just need to find the right one 😛
What's Google nest integration like in home assistant. Any restrictions with the battery version.
You'd want to ask about #integrations-archived in the #integrations-archived channel
Guys, this is an off topic question but, any straightforward (flash sd card image) minimal linux distro that work with banana pi m2 zero? (just to be able to use docker?
I Googled that and found they have a Wiki page listing known working distros
Idid it too but no straightforward version (flashing an sd card thing) like the raspberry pi
Nevermind, I'll try armbian seems to be the least complicated
thanks!
I need like, a controller for LEDs like this that can plugin to HA?
So if I lose the remote I'm not SOL..
wifi?
https://www.athom.tech/blank-1/wled-high-power-led-strip-controller you can use something like this and attach all kinds of addressable strips to it
yea it can control rgb(w) and change color temp and stuff
then you use the wled integration in hass
home assistant will find it automatically on your lan
Can't wait for matter, lmao. Awesome, thank you very much
Would an Intel i3 NUC (2C/4T 4Ghz) be a significant improvement over a Pi4? I.e. the loss of two cores would be more than made up by the new processor itself?
@sand marsh crazy I just came on the discord to ask the same. Is i3 worth it or would need i5+?
I think I'm going to land on i3 after my reading
Was just thinking of waiting for the yellow hw
Someone is selling i5 nuc for 170$. Thinking might as well wait?
Got it - for me it's actually the non HA things that I am looking for more power for. HA and friends are all running OK on the pi4 for now
@sand marsh which NUC you are looking for? I am looking for something similar but dont know which to buy... I will also run other stuff to beside HA so pi4 is not enough.
@nimble ginkgo where did you find the deal? Ebay?
Ok well just because i've been bitten by "ooooh... I'm curious" bug and I can't find anything
RGB LED strip with cw/ww LEDs as well?
I'd really like cob just because of the use case, but
It's gotta exist
Hmmm...
Option two I guess would be two different strips? Could I control them via one controller with WLED?
I was looking at an Intel i3 11th gen which I think is the latest models
Did you find some good deal?
Is Zooz still around? I can't find a ZEN25 anywhere.
Looked it up on OfferUp
Hi I moved my ha to an HP t620 thin client and want to move the data to an external USB SSD disk. The disk is recognized and mapped to /dev/sdb but still I get error "no suitable attached devices found" when using the storage system/storage/move datadisk function. Does anyone have an idea where else I can look for the error?
How can i run this command on HA Core install ?
sudo apt update && sudo apt install usb-modeswitch -y
I wanna run this device as a text sender: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087Z6F953?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
because right now my rp4 dosent see the usb device.
HI, my HA PC died. I'm using a Kingston SSD and just ran diagnostics and the drive shows no errors. I put the drive into another PC hoping it would boot, but I have the error "No boot device available, Press any key to reboot the system". The old PC was an HP Compaq Pro 4300 and the 'new' is a Dell Inspiron 620. Is there any way I can perform any type of repair install so I don't lose any of my configurations? Or, are there any suggested utilities that will allow me to copy folders/files to another drive that I can then copy to a new installation?
Hi all, is it possible on a Tasmota s31 plug to disable turning it on and off? I simply want to use it for monitoring and don't want it possible to accidently turned off, i.e. on an appliance like a freezer 🙂
poweronstate command
Hello!, What would be the best waterproof data logger for temperature measurement with seamless integration with HA?
I'm looking at Tempo Disc from BlueMaestro, but only reviews I find are discouraging
Good morning from Sweden. I'm out to buy a zigbee dongle because Ikea Tradfri sensors and switches aren't "paired" to Ikea gateway. I looked at ZHA and I want to add my devices to that so i'm looking at Zigbee dongles and the name SONOFF seems like a popular beginner choice atleast. It comes with 2 different chips and i'm not sure which one to pick or if it matters at all. I run my HA in a wmvare with the supplied image. The SONOFF chipsets are EFR32MG21 and CC2652P + CP2102N. Any tips or should I just the cheapest one from amazon?
if you can buy CC2652P go for that one
Will do, thank you.
Hey, should i use my raspberry pi 4, raspberry pi 3b or a docker on my nas (with 2gb ram, the synoogy ds220+)
for home assistant :)
okay ty! I think im gonna use the pi4 because the pi3 has 100mbs ethernet
I’m looking for Zigbee relay that can be outside in range down to like -20°C . Live in Sweden and want to control my outdoor lights. Relay like Aqara T1 or Sonoff ZB Mini they only goes down to 0°C according to spec. But Shelley’s relay with WiFi goes down to -40°C.I would like to not use WiFi. But are they any Zigbee relays some one knows?
Hello All. Stalin here and I'm from India. I'm construction my house and have plans to implement home automation. So looking for someone in India who has implemented the same with any open-source softwares and hardware that integrate well with them? Any help is much appreciated!!
I am running haOS inside a libvirt vm, the hypervisor is running arch linux with pulseaudio in headless mode. Ive tried to pass the pulseaudio socket but somehow homeassistant doesnt recognize that. Does anyone have a tutorial at hand?
@cold moon which wall plug with power meter would you recommend from ali express for cheap?
wifi
they just came out with a new generation and im not sure if those are preferred over the old ones
the athom tasmota or esphome ones will be fine too
well i guess i stick to that one ive linked previusly in #integrations-archived
its preflashed with tasmota and cheapest ive found 🤔
there's no perfect option for most hardware dude
you buy what is cheap, what looks good, what works good, etc
I'm looking to buy a space heater that I can automate with a custom algorithm either via a Python library or HA, I had the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool in mind but from what I see you can't adjust its heat output. I've looked at some other random ones too and they all only had 2 modes, like 1000W and 2000W, no custom values even with 100W increments or something like that.
Could someone recommend me one that has precise control over the heat output?
The reason behind this is I don't want to keep turning it on and off every minute at 1000W output to keep a constant temperature, but rather calculate how much power is needed based on the current temperature, time of day, etc. and adjust it to a specific value, i.e. 600W at 7 AM, 550 at 8 AM, and so on with a proper custom algo
Do anyone know max SD card size that a Raspberry pi 3B can take?
I don't know of any space heaters with adjustable output. They're usually just a couple of relays that turn the coils on or off and each coil is around 1000w or 500w on smaller heaters
do we have an insight in the BT adresses of our devices? I mean, whenever I activate the ble tracker, I get hundreds of devices, only listed by a bt address, so no way to identify which is which. Otoh, the devices that are included in the Integrations list on a BT tracker dont show their BT address....
even the advised Olimex Proxy boards dont show that (also tried the diagnostics of that). Or, the new BTHome integration, it finds several devices, named and unnamed, but none of them show a BT address, only a RSSI sensor entity sensor.44_4c_e8_08_cf_e1_cfe1_signal_strength ...
would be really an improvement if the Device info panel on would contain the BT address
Yeah that's exactly what my issue is. In that approach if I want to have 25 Celsius room temp it will never be 25 exactly, more like 26, then drops down to 24, then up to 26 again etc. Unless I'm switching on and off every minute and probably kill it within a month
All the heaters I own do exactly that and it blows my mind that there isn't one where I can calculate the exact power output I need to sustain a stable temp
It's like if my car's throttle was an on off switch, and if I wanted to go exactly 50km/h I need to turn it on and off every millisecond. Like... why?
not sure if this helps (is the type of device you are after) but I bought Mill heaters that are controlled just like any other climate entity, by setting a desired temp? There's a nice new Integration for those in core HA, and they have a local api 😉 they come in 2 sizes. Not setting it via power output. Though they have a builtin sensor for that.
Yeah but that does exactly the same as any of the other ones. It doesn't stay on constantly at a low power but rather toggles on and off constantly to maintain the set temp. But looks like all of them does that for whatever reason. In that case I'm going with the Dyson Hot+Cool rather
right, I see. tbh, this is my first winter with them... but yeah they work on temp, hope they will be smart about that soon. So an as close as possible to constant will be used..
They'll probably be mostly consistent. It's just that as a developer myself it blows my mind that this is how it's done when it makes absolutely no sense. I'll most likely trip my breaker when the 1000W kicks in for 1 minute, then shuts off for 4 minutes and repeat... Instead of running at 250W constantly when there is no need for higher output to get to the desired temp
Any recommendations for a body weight scale that integrates with HA? It seems many people use Xiaomi via Esphome or Withings (cloud). Anything else I should look at?
hello. are there any reasons not to use a SSD to boot off HA OS on a RPI?
I'm thinking of switching to one. I remember about a year ago or so having issues restoring from a backup when I ran HAOS off a SSD for some reasons, but I don't know what the exact issue was and whether it's an issue of the past now
No it works fine and is preferred
Hello techies, looking forward for advice on what ZigBee(preferred)/ZWave switch can be used to replace the sw in the bathroom which controls both fan and light.
Ahh not able to attach an image of the wiring
Zooz zen30 double switch is what I use in a bathroom and works great
It’s zwave
So my house is old(USA) prolly 1950's so there's no neutral but the second bathroom wiring looks different so I'm really not sure what type of switch to use.
I got 4 wires Total. 1>Black- Hot 2> Black- When I unscrew this light turns off 3&4>Two white wires- connected via wire nut
Hey guys - wondered if anyone could shed some light on a couple of errors I'm getting in my logs. I moved my HASS from a RPi4 to an Odroid N4. Simply did a normal backup and restored it to my Odriod. Everything seems to be fine - however I'm getting a couple of errors in my logs which I presume are because the system is now no longer running on a Pi4.
These are the errors:
2022-09-19 19:45:36.223 ERROR (SyncWorker_5) [homeassistant.components.command_line] Command failed (with return code 127): /opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd measure_temp
2022-09-19 19:45:36.283 ERROR (SyncWorker_7) [homeassistant.components.command_line] Command failed (with return code 127): /opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd measure_clock arm
I’m no expert, but I believe the 2 white wires should be neutral. One comes from the breaker, and one goes “downstream”. If you remove the wire nut, it’ll probably cut power to something.
@gloomy vault You say it looks “different”.
Different compared to what? The rest of the house?
If so, that bathroom may have been remodeled at some point, and that would further my hunch that the white wires are neutral.
You're right. Wiring is different then the other bathroom just that the neutral is in the outlet. I guess since I have the light live wire in the outlet I need one from fan too but wouldn't that change the power wire from main like it needs to come to outlet instead of going to the fan ?
Control fan and light individually.
Both are separate entities and light wire is in the outlet but fan wire isn't.
I can now tell the power from breaker is run to the fan then to outlet and that's where light is connected to hot and neutral- if that makes sense.
You’d need 2 switches, and two sets of hot wires.
I trust this is a new fan install?
See if that is any help.
Note that they are not yet selling the actual wall switches yet in the US. Only in the UK.
However, any momentary push button should work with those relays.
Nvm. I just re-read what you wrote.
If the fan is hard-wired on, then you’d need to place a new switch between the hot and the fan.
If the outlet is between the breaker and the fan, then you’d need to put the switch between the fan and the outlet, and the fan with the switch needs to be wired in parallel with the outlets.
I’m assuming this is a ceiling or wall fan.
If the fan plugs-in to the wall, then you’ll need a different approach.
Recommendations on zwave outlets/receptacles and/or switches? for the US
i like my zooz switches
I’m looking for some recommendations for a smart doorbell that is/can be self-hosted and integrates relatively well with home assistant?(like I’ve looked however some it’s quite hard to find some constantly updated guide or comparing differences between what I’ve seen, like the really good advice/detailed pieces are quite old)
Any recommendations are appreciated!
Good Morning. I am planing to upgrade my smart home with some extra relays/switches etc. As it was considered here, i ordered a zigbee dongle for HA and plan to use it with ZHA. The house already hast IKEA Tradfri lights, Bosch thermostats which work with the central heating (not Bosch smart home!) and a Shelly EM3 and a 1PM Plus for our mini-solar.
Now i would love to ask whether you guys would go with shelly for the relays (which seem to work very so far) or better get some zigbee relays.
My focus is on reliability and future usage rather than saving the last euro.
Could somebody please share his experience or recommendation?
Hi all, is anyone here capable to tell me what may go wrong with my setup based on the issue below? It is mentioning Serial, so is it possible the issue is coming from ZHA ?
Hey! I have a Microsoft Surface tablet in my kitchen, showing a Home Assistant dashboard. I'd like to turn off the display when there's no motion in the kitchen. Does anyone know a way to turn the screen on and off via commands from home assistant?
you could turn it 'black' with browser_mod, but that is not the same as 'off'. It would still consume power, if thats what you're after
Yeah, that's what I'm currently doing. But it only shaves a little off the consumption (this is indeed the goal). It's not an OLED screen, sadly.
I'm turning off my ubuntu machine connected to my TV via ssh. This solution seems interesting: https://superuser.com/questions/1382319/turn-off-win10-displays-via-openssh
Although I'm totally not at home with PowerShell. Will try it out and report back. But if anyone has tried anything like it, I'd be happy to learn from your experience.
Btw, I'd imagine there would be a need for home assistant "daemons", running on windows/macos/linux/android devices and allowing control of them, such as alter volume, turn the screen on/off, power them off etc. I know there are tools that provide sensors into home assistant from desktop OSes, but nothing as far as I know that can control them. Is that so?
your fan is wired to your light live (well mine was) hence it comes on with the light, you need to take the cable going from the light and put a inwall box on it (what i did anyway, then loop the input from that beyond the light it self so its tapped infront of it. biggest tip is wago connectors are your best friend with this sort of work.
I'm trying to find a material that starts out transparent and darkens/polarizes in the presence of an electrical current. Does anyone know what such a thing would be called? I tried "dielectric polarizing film" but apparently that isn't right. Or the product doesn't exist.
UniFi Protect G4 Doorbell/Pro or Amcrest AD410
How do those 2 compare? Like does the unifi have better res etc?
UniFi requires one of their NVRs but the G4 Doorbell pro in specific has a fingerprint scanner, small screen and slightly higher res camera iirc
It’s just very hard to find at the moment lol
Looking for recommendations for relays with power monitoring such as the sonoff pow r2. Anything worth looking into? (Us)
you can contact zooz and they offer some electrical help. Never used it, surprised they offer it
I think you're right. I looked at Hass.Agent a while ago and functionality was limited, but you could check again
Also, I have a surface that I'd like to use as a dashboard, but couldn't find anything to do what you're asking, so if you figure something out please let me know!
Anyone have experience with Sonoff door sensors? Namely Sonoff SNZB-04? I've only used aqara before but these are half the price so thought I might switch to them.
I use them and they are alright. Note that I placed them only a month ago so I have no long term experience.
It's worth a search, others have used them (mostly posted about them in #zigbee-archived) and have been underwhelmed. Many/most of the Sonoff sensors tend to be junk, dropping off the mesh, and otherwise just being rubbish.
Interesting! @zealous wyvern let me know what you find with your research 🙂
I did have some troubles with their temperature sensors, but the window sensors seem stable so far
Using zha, btw
there's custom firmware for Sonoff TH which should improve connectivity and report interval https://blakadder.com/sonoff-th-custom-firmware/ but not completely supported in ZHA yet
Will do. I’ve ordered three window sensors so will see how they work.
I don’t think i have whats needed to flash them. I use a homey as my zigbee hub
it's just an option if you get fed up with original firmware like i did
Oh wow, that is awesome. Thanks for sharing this
Regarding the window sensors: I wanted to repurpose one to detect mail delivery. I was messing around a lot with it and I managed to drain the battery in a day. But I suppose that is not too surprising.
it's not 😄
i had one outside and was changing batteries every 3 months
then i gave up and replaced it with aqara
The battery holder on these is quite flimsy and loose. I suggest you bent it closer to the pcb to get a solid connection
i even enforced mine with extra solder
I avoided aqara so far because I thought their devices had meshing issues and were somehow not fully zigbee compliant.
yes and no 😉 they're router picky but atleast they work once they connect
Good to know!
on the other hand sonoff's motion sensor was driving me crazy with disconnecting while being 2m from the first router
I wanted to get one of those because they are cheaper than the ikea offering. I guess I should just order one first to try
Mine works but sometimes drops off the network and then I need to repair then
I've converted them to bed sensors by soldering a force sensitive resistor (not the dark side) strip to it. Works really well, even though the bed sensors sends many on-off events.
BUT! The aqara ones are much better as door sensors as they double as temp sensors and are way smaller and faster. Here's a great video talking about contact sensors https://youtu.be/c4-8Y7jUCn0
They double as temp sensors???
You can directly connect FSR strips? I will keep that in mind, mine should be delivered in a few days
Hello all,
I am trying to be a bit independent, but I don't know exactly where to start. I got a dinky smart fan and do not seem to find anyone mentioning the brand (Dreo). Does anyone have a resource or 2 they could point me to so I can looking into adding it as a generic fan?
I apologize if I am approaching this incorrectly, I have never done open source, community work, nor forums before. I probably will stick out like a sore thumb
What app do you use to control it? Does it use wifi or bluetooth or zigbee?
Does it support alexa?
It is Wifi controlled. It has an app and everything.
I believe it supports Alexa, I run a Google household though.
is there a link to the thing?
Yeah. Pretty much plug and play, too: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ExrDZ19V8SsBQvf16
That’s weird. I’m using them through homey and i do not get temp readings
I was surprised as well, as they don't state it anywhere.. Are you using these? https://www.aqara.com/us/door_and_window_sensor.html
Yeah thats the ones
Here it shows temp as well: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/MCCGQ11LM.html#device-temperature-numeric
It's the temperature of the sensor though, not of the room
Don't expect it to be very accurate, or useful
Makes sense @winged knoll, but still weird that i don’t get it through homey
Not really... not everything exposes it since it's largely useless
I mean, it might be handy to tell you the house is on fire/frozen
Good to know. How warm does this sort of a device get anyway?
How hot does your room and the surface it's mounted on get?
Close to 30°C in the summer
I have one on my bathroom window, and an Aqara temperature sensor a short distance away (and slightly higher). The window sensor says 24C, the room sensor says 20C.
But doors are usually in the shade (on a door), and I don't imagine the door sensor generates too much heat
Well, a nearby door is reporting 26C
It's not anywhere near that temperature in here
I'll do some tests on these later. Maybe it needs calibration. One of mine also shows 30C atm, which is probably 5+ degrees off
But I've had to calibrate dedicated temperature sensors a few degrees before as well.. go figure..
But yes, there's probably a reason they don't advertise it and it's named "device temperature"
are yours connected via zigbee2mqtt, if so use the specific setting to take away the amount the other sensor is showing you will be surpised when it matches that 😛
Yes, though given that the temperature of the device itself is slightly less useful than a chocolate teapot, I think I'll give it a pass
I would bite off the spout first, of course
Are you asking for a link to what I was talking about?
yes
Oh my bad. I bought it on Amazon, but here's the store link:
https://www.dreo.com/products/dreo-cruiser-pro-t2-tower-fan
Odds are ... pretty damn bad
If it works with the Tuya cloud service then you may be lucky
first step is to run its MAC on macvendors.com
Okay, so it tells me "Part II Research, Inc."
I'm not sure what to do with that information. I would have never guessed to check the vendor.
we know it's not tuya and not espressif so your chances to integrate just went down
Ah... Ouch.
I have heard Tuya a few times, is that something that has good learning materials?
it has an official integrtion with HA if that's what you define as learning materials
Oh that's pretty nice. I have a smart vacuum that I planned on trying to integrate and Tuya came up a few times.
But I thought "a fan has to be really easy to start with"
Yeah, I do not see anything about integration with the vendor. So I assume that means I would be trying to put a square peg in a round hole
Tuya is mostly something to be cautious with. Some Tuya devices are good, and many aren't. Couple that with an official integration that's reliant on their cloud service, and Zigbee devices that play really loose with the Zigbee standards, and you can often end up frustrated.
Oh good to know. Thank you for the warning.
Especially since I am just getting my feet wet. I took like 2 days to get my lights to fade on when my phone alarm starts.
Zigbee devices are likely to be a safe bet, since almost any Zigbee device will work with either ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT. Do avoid Tuya and be careful with Sonoff since some of their sensors are also junk
That's something Philips Hue works with, correct?
Even better.
Any CC2652 based stick will work with Zigbee2MQTT, and ZHA has more options
Okay!
Thank you for your time! Onward to lurking and finding some learning materials
See the #zigbee-archived channel - it has handy pinned messages
I decided to move my instance of HA from an HA-Blue to an Intel PC I got off eBay. I have an NVMe M.2 flashed with the HA Intel NUC from the HA documentation website. It loaded fine, I fixed my network settings and preformed a reload from a backup I made just yesterday made from my HA-Blue device. No problems so far. It is running as it should and I am able to log-in. EXCEPT I noticed one odd thing. Even after waiting 8 to 10 hours thinking waiting for everything to sync perhaps the add-ons would become active on their own or ready to be turned on.. None of my add-ons are "active and ON" I can't seem to turn them on. They just go right back to off and they are all grayed out. Any ideas how to remedy this?
have you tried a reboot (from terminal of the actual machine)
No, not yet. give me a minute and I'll go do it.
Ok, my bad. I guess I should have thought to try that. It appears t obe working as it should. Thank you R.Bowzer, I appreciate it!
np glad its working again 🙂 sometimes people forget with PC's that a shutdown and reboot is probably your first port of call 😛
i want a wireless device, that can measure three temperature probes from 0°c - 100°c and send the info to HA
any suggestions for what to get?
Any ESP and three NTC thermistors
Regarding your fan: it also has an IR remote, right? In that case you can control it over IR
It does! Any suggestions for where to start on that? I never considered IR. I honestly thought of servos and zip ties before you asked that.
Bond bridge or a Broadlink hub is where I would start
Anybody here have range issues with the Aqara Motion P1?
The one I got seem to only detect a max of 6 feet away. I just setup with MQTT. It is really fast, but not good range.
(not so good for a hallway - 14ft)
Maybe someone here has experienced this, and knows a way to improve the range?? 🤞
Is that the new mmwave one?
I think that's FP1
Also, wouldn't expect someone mentioning "really fast" when talking about the FP1 😁
You probably wanted the #zigbee-archived channel, where people have reported a range issue in the past (if you search)
is there a name for a zigbee light that can be used as both a physical light and via HA?
We are replacing some switches as my wife forgets about the smart home stuff and turns off switches, making them unreachable. I’m hoping a zigbee switch can help but i’m unsure if all switches do what i want.
HI
I dont know if this belongs in here or in #energy-archived but does anybody know of a device where I can plug in a RJ12 Meter-Bus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meter-Bus) connection and it gives me the output over my LAN preferably via a rest-api?
I would like to avoid having to build my own circuit and code for an Arduino. Please only reply with thing you know work or better yet first hand experience.
what you're looking for is a smart switch that can be decoupled aka stop controlling the L part and just send toggle events
yes really fast can be mentioned (apart from the pressance none which seems to have a mind of its own and sometimes works within 5 seconds or sometimes 40 lol, but for detection, its best to use the enter and approach as triggers.
Is there a way to connect Apature/Amaran lights to Home Assisstant?
anybody tried out pipe temp sensors? a google search showed multiple products, does anyone have an experience with those?
Would it be expected that the M5stack Bt proxy would suffer low rssi db on a usb adapter (so direct usb-a to usb-c plug) compared to a longer cable?
When the cable is connected to my wall usb outlet, it is about -30db but when the adapter it toggles between -50db to -90db. And that is 40 cm distance…
The commercial ones I’ve encountered in a couple of different hvac control systems for domestic use were… a well specified NTC in a fancy housing.
Does anybody know is there blinder motor for these kind of blinds? https://imgur.com/a/Jp7rZMU
The normal motor meant for chains won’t, as that nob turns around it’s own axis.
what's an NTC?
Hey folks! Does anyone have an example .yaml file that allows the exercising of all the built-in components of the m5stick-c on esphome?
I have been looking at some special use-case yaml files for things like external temp/humidity or a water detection system.. but I was hoping to experiment with the basic, built in stuff that comes with the stick.
Specifically:
- the two buttons
- the LED
- the Real-time clock
- the IR receiver
- the 6-axis IMU
- the microphone
I was hoping someone had just a yaml file that initialized each of these items and allowed you to see/experiment with them.
2.5yrs later, HA running on Windows with VBox has proven to be rock solid stable.
I found an old laptop at home. Is i5-5xxx good enough for HA?
Hey folks Does anyone have an example
Depends on what that is, really. Find the passmark for the CPU - a Pi4 is about 900, so you're aiming for something faster (higher) than that.
I will check check which number it is when i come home. Where can i get passmark?
Here , try this:
http://letmegooglethat.com/?q=i5-1234+passmark
Like that
I think it is i5-54xx something. Will check. Thy
Stands for Negative Temperature Coefficient. A 10k NTC will have a resistance of 10 kilo Ohms at the standard temperature (typically 25 C) and if the temperature goes up, the resistance comes down (hence, negative coefficient). When you put it in the right circuit (a voltage divider with a fixed resistor and then feeding into an analog input, give or take some filtering and/or protection and such), it provides you a voltage (and thus an analog value) which you can calculate (using the specs for that type of NTC) to match a specific temperature. (And you can also calibrate the calculation for that particular NTC, they can vary a bit)
To give a not so random example, almost all temperature sensors used in consumer 3D printers are based on an NTC.
hope this is allowed here, (many ubiquiti users) but anyone else seeing all sorts of idiot incorrect Models in their Clients list on the Router? Suddenly I have 3d printers, Sky boxes or Chargepoints..... And no way to correct that
Are you talking about the Ubiqiti router itself or the HA integration misidentifying clients?
it's done by mac address i think. you can click on a client then click "report missing icon" and choose a different icon
Hi there. I think I want to use OPUS XT300 sensors for my watering project. But I have no idea yet what I need as a receiver. My ha hardware is a raspberry 4. I would be happy if someone could point me into the right direction...
Are there any news about the SkyConnect? Maybe a non-binding schedule?
😎
Hello everyone. I've always been a fan of the Nest Thermostat, mostly because of its looks. The integration with Home Assistant works great, despite the headaches over time with their API policies and deprecations. Though, things look more promising now and the integration has been stable for me for a long while.
However... the my Nest Thermostat seems to be up for replacement as I'm having some weird issues with it (the hardware itself). That means I'm in the market for a new one. I was considering getting an Ecobee this time around, thinking that the integration would be better, or at least local, but it turns out it is not.
What do you all suggest?
Ecobee or Nest? Are there others worth considering?
Can you use Aubess smart switches input and output seperate or are they fixed?
What's the absolute worst that could happen if I plugged a 1500w space heater into a 1200w smart plug
You burn out the smart plug, possibly literally
Darn
Setting fire to the house would remove the need for the space heater
I ordered some 15a smart plugs for my space heater but I was thinking it would be fine if it were just a couple of weeks before they arrived
not a long term solution 😁
Keep in mind that many smart plugs give a rating that's more theory than reality. That 1200W may be fine for a short time, but it may not be able to sustain it.
thanks!
My experience is that they'll usually trip/shut off if they detect an overload situation, but I'm sure that depends on the plug
uhh
Of course, the safety of your house shouldn't depend on the quality of a smart plug
🤷 it may or may not save you, but don't knowingly overload it
a space heater is a constant load, so you're not talking about just a spike at startup
Looking for a WiFi enabled device, that I can plug into a wall outlet in my bedroom, that can emit a programmable sound from an HA automation. Essentially an intrusion alert, but not necessarily at the volume level of the typical home security sirens.
What does that mean? Louder? Quieter?
Ultimately any smart speaker (that HA supports) could play a sound
How programmable?
Just something that can be triggered via an HA automation
i.e., binary sensor open, play sound
Second hand Google Home Mini?
