If your radio doesn't expose RSSI, LQI for TI radios is calculated as just 0=min RSSI and 255=max RSSI.
All of the radios that I'm aware of expose LQI info, which is a better indication than just raw RSSI
Where would I view this though?
What integration are you using?
zigbee
ZHA? Z2M? deCONZ?
ZHA
It's shown in the device page
Thanks I see it!
It's also shown in the network visualization as the numbers between devices
Where is that? I think I've stumbled across it before
Think I found it. Odd, though, there doesn't seem to be a line connecting my hub with the zigbee device. Why might that be?
It may not be connected directly to your coordinator
What do you mean directly?
My coordinator is on the network via ethernet which is how ha communicates with it
but it would have to go through the hub to talk to ha
Zigbee is a mesh network so your end device may not necessarily communicate directly with the coordinator
It's my only zigbee device right now
And even so, it would still have a line to some other device if it was on a mesh, no?
In that case it probably hasn't been scanned by the visualization tool yet, I think it does it only every couple of hours
But it's best-effort, not every connection can always be picked up
Well it's been hooked up for a while, though I have had some downtime with ha a few hours ago
In any case, I need some downtime so I'm off to bed. Thanks for the help!
@twilit narwhal Thank you!
Hi!
I have an issue with my ZigBee network and I don't know how to fix it. Hope anyone here could help me out.
I have one sensor that was not sending update values and a switch that seems to be unreachable by the node.
I have forced deleted both (because delete failed) and now when trying to pair them again those never join the network again.
Permit join is enabled.
Any clues? Should I provide the log? (I got it in debug mode)
Please answer the question in the channel topic
Sorry. Where is apropiate to ask?
Did you read the channel topic?
Top of the window
It tells you to tell us one really important thing
Sorry, I'm on mobile and that info was hidden in the right pannel.
I'm using zigbee2mqtt through a CC2652P tube coordinator
You probably need to restart Z2M to have the devices show up again
There was a bug introduced around 1.20 where if you deleted a device it wouldn't show in the UI again until you restart Z2M
It would turn up in HA though
(at least, usually)
It has rebooted now. Stll not seeing the devices. I'm going to try again the pair procedure
Not adding any new devices. I got three entities that have Γ± caracter in their names. I have changed the names to avoid it and rebooted again
I have managed to pair one (a magnetic door/window sensor). Will try the other one in a bit
Can someone help me out with deconz?
i had to restore the server from a backup. Everything else is running fine ( zwave too) but my deconz can not connect.
Fehler beim Einrichten: could not authenticate
I having trouble locating my ZigStart Stick V4 on MacOs. $ ls /dev/tty.* gives me only /dev/tty.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port as a result, same as with the zigbee adapter unplugged.. any tips?
Running on an older macbook pro running High-Sierra (10.13.6)
It's also not there when executing ls /dev/tty*
never dealt with zigbee on macos personally
maybe I should ask in #hardware-archived
This is the right channel
You just need to wait for people that know Mac to turn up
This may take a while
im a macos user, but i dont run HA on it
im seeing what i can figure out now
does it at least show up in "System Information"
or 'lsusb' if you have it
Were there any drivers needed for it?
FTDI stuff works out of the box on 10.9+
what chipset is the ZigStar thing?
if its a Prolific, i believe you still need to install a driver
@umbral grove it uses ch340 serial chip, so you need to install the driver https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/how-to-install-ch340-drivers/all#mac-osx
ahh CH340
Ah cool, going to try that now, thanks!
Got it π /dev/tty.wchusbserial410. Thanks!
I want to switch from ZHA to Zigbee2MQTT ? Does it worth it (~30 devices) ? I read it could be smoothed by buying a second USB dongle and had new ZigBee devices with ZB2MQTT with the second one. Anyone tried that ? Thanks.
Well, what stick do you have today ? @ember bluff repairing devices with z2m is fast, when I moved from the 2531 to my previous 1352p2 I just repaired all and 60ish devices was around 45 minutes
hey guys - im looking to see how I can update my Zigbee2mqtt
Current version: 1.18.1-1

usually it shows update available in the HA superivsor
sounds like #add-ons-archived
Nah, it's answered in the pinned messages
π
I love HA Discord. Come get help, and tell people to go to another channel
suck putzes
π€
I actually had to google that
can you show me how to see hte pinned messages?
I see the link to zigbee2mqtt github
What are you using, a 240x120 pixel screen?

120x120
You don't need to copy and paste it here
i do
Then... I need to clean up for you
I can do this all day
Good news, I can fix that π
Hi all I have a question regarding ZHA using Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus
Don't ask to ask, just ask your question. Then people can answer when they're around.
When you do ask a question, try to provide as much background detail as possible. Ask yourself these questions first so that others don't have to:
- What version of the Home Assistant are you running? (remember, last isn't a version)
- What exactly are you trying to do that won't work?
- Is the problem uniform or erratic?
- What's the exact error message?
- When did it arise?
- What exactly don't you "get"?
- Can you share sample code, ideally with line errors where the error occurs?
why I can't see the links signal quality on map?
on the ZHA network map I can't see the links between devices
A lack of links for end devices isn't uncommon
π¦
Are you seeing links between routers and the coordinator/other routers?
no
Well, that's less common
I cant paste image here...
Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.
Image posting is blocked in most channels to discourage people from sharing text as images. Sharing text as images assumes that everybody sees the world as you do, which isn't the case. Some people are colour blind, or have visual impairment that means they can't make sense of an image of text.
It should, the same chipset on Z2M certainly shows links
don't know but is not working
I'm moving deconz integration to a new server, what is the best way to change the endpoint in home assistant?
the device are working fine
There is something fishy with the zigbee2mqtt on my hassos.... Yesterday I had a couple of zigbee devices visible in the mosquitto broker integration... this morning I had all the devices visible and now I have only 1 left.. All devices is working in the zigbee2mqtt dashboard.. what can be causing this behaviour? Apparently my config should be OK since they were there earlier? (I have been away all day so not changed anything..)
Conbee2
Then buy something else before you move to z2m
no way I hate voice shit too π
I just noticed I can use voice to turn up the steering wheel heat on my car, and I love it
anyone have a favorite router to extend range? or are things like ikea outlets usually sufficient?
interesting. how frequent is the power reporting? or does it work on a change threshold?
here's one of mine monitoring a 3d printer power:
watched it for a bit as it took the screen shot and think it was updating on changes, as saw it update at liek 10 secs then again at 4sec
it's based on the configure reporting call for the metering cluster
on change but we configure the threshold (ZHA)
that looks good enough, thanks π
Does anyone know how to change the power reporting frequency of blitzwolf/tuya TS0121 plug socket? Seems to send the values once a minute by default and that is not suitable for my needs.
Zigbee2mqtt is in use
I have to say this... ConBee II stick is not anymore on experimental status in Z2M. It's even listed as "recommended" (check https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/adapters/#recommended).
Sure you need to update the firmware to 26720700 to fully support all functionality but it's not uncommon to flash CC2652 either.
Maybe the message "buy something else before moving to Z2M" is a bit extreme (I use ConBee II with Z2M and I am quite happy with it now - used to be a bit rough, but very stable now)
Was it explicitly marked non-experimental or did this just change with the docs redesign?
It's not a bad coordinator, it just has quirks and is extremely picky about its RF environment. And will outright refuse to work when in the same spot as any other coordinator
It was listed as experimental before the redesign and it was at the bottom of the table of supported adapters, and now it's listed as recommended.
Though from an open source perspective, I would still recommend the CC2652. The Conbee's firmware is completely closed source (tbf Z-Stack isn't completely open either) and isn't fully documented, nor can do it do everything Z-Stack can.
I agree that if you go ConBee you need an USB cable to take it away from the box, mine is sticked to the back of the TV and works very fine. But ConBee has a very nice range when placed correctly for a antenna-less stick
That actually is a good point, on the other hand it's very well advertised so when I first looked for a zigbee stick back then, that was the top results in Google, so I bought it and I believe a lot of people did too for the exact same reason. The fact that it is now well supported in deConz (obviously), ZHA and Z2M is also a good incentive
but my point was not to launch a fude (more of a debate actually) about which is the best stick as I didn't test other ones, I just see everytime someone says he has a ConBee, someone answers "change stick before anything". I just wanted to point out that that's probably an old position and not based on any recent experience. Once again I might be wrong and atxbyea may have tested it recently, but that's not my experience at least
I don't think the Conbee inherently has any flaws, it's just more sensitive. And a PITA to write code for.
Since we have multiple users every week come in and say xyz doesn't work and are running Conbee it doesn't really hold well in its favour
I see a lot of messages saying something doesn't work with a lot of devices configuration. That's discord world ! π

but once again, maybe you're right, I just think it's a bit hard to say to someone that's looking for help to change hardware as a first step. And Z2M can work very nicely even with a ConBee (that's my small experience at least). the only devices I have issues with are listed with those flaws in Z2M
I am harsh by nature, just study me closer
(I stand corrected, the flaws I talk about are listed in blakadder webpage)
π
My poor customers never see me coming before I start swearing and yelling
I want to install some LED strips after disappointment with the Philips Hue strip. They will be for basic indoor lighting (under kitchen cabinets, in closets, mounted on ceiling in rooms without overhead lights) and don't need to be individually addressable. I think a RGBCCT 5050 strip will meet my needs. With a strip, power supply, and controller, I'm looking at this costing around $100. Does that seem right? I want to make a few, so it seems pretty expensive. (I plan on buying from Ali Express if cheaper there, after a test build.)
I picked these items:
- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RJXPC6Z/
- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MZVJ7W7/
Any changes recommended?
Seems expensive - what length of strip you are looking at? and ws2812B (which are individualy addressable) aren't expensive - a 5m strip should cost less than 50 I guess
Looking at 5m (standard). I think I found a better store via QuinLED's site. They seem to sell nice quality strips. https://www.aliexpress.com/store/3754011
Okay so you plan to control using zogbee or esphome?
I think zigbee for compatability with Philips Hue. Don't have a spare machine for Home Assistant at this place right now.
Zigbee users...
I'm aware that zigbee is a standard, but does that mean that zigbee device A works with zigbee device B?
So, I have an IKEA TRADFRI hub right now. Can I just buy random zigbee shit and have it all just...work?
Technically yes, but each proprietary hub introduce their own restriction. That's why here we ask you to get rid of proprietary hub and choose one mentioned either in z2m or ZHA and control almost any zigbee devices
Oh, interesting. I didn't know there was such a thing as proprietary hub.
im not big on the idea of running a USB stick though
Why's that?
Doesn't need to be USB necessarily. There are serial-over-ethernet coordinators
Firstly form factor. I have HA running on a pi and where it is in my rack would make that a pain. Secondly, flexibility. My pi is in my basement. I like the fact that I can plug into an Ethernet jack and use that to communicate with the hub.
I like the fact that the ZigBee radio doesn't necessarily have to be on the same place as the HA host
Plus, HA is running in docker swarm which doesn't allow you to map devices into it
inb4 "π€’ swarm"
Makes sense
Does anyone know how and when zigpy's zha_device_handlers are updated in Homeassistant?
Usually when a new version of the package is released to PyPI and someone makes a PR to HA core
Though you can usually install new releases before they're released with HA: https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/#testing-new-releases
@austere patio thank you for answering my next question preemptively π
Make sure to delete /config/deps/ when you get rid of the addon
Hi, I'm migrating from a Pi to a container, and I figured I should do the migration from deconz to zha at the same time. I get zsh to find by conbee stick, but I'm wondering if the stick is supposed to "remember" the zigbee network, or if I need to reconnect all the devices manually?
Admittedly, I don't have a lot of devices connected to it, so I can probably survive doing it manually, but I was kind of expecting things to turn up.
ZHA will use the network settings on the stick if it has them, but it won't be aware of any device on the network until they re-join. If you have mains-powered routers, just turn them off and on at the switch.
thanks I'll try that
Anyone can confirm if the Hue RGB bulbs are stronger/brighter than the Tradfri RGB bulbs? Particularly the E27
The first TRADFRI RGB bulbs were horrible -- I'm not sure if they've improved now.
Colored Hue bulbs are much nicer in terms of color and (depending on which model you get) they are brighter overall.
Hue are just so $$$ though
Thanks then I'll get a Hue I guess. Not sure if I have the first but it is truely horrible. Changing to "yellow warm light" its very dim and disgusting colour, while the non RGB tradfri i have in my living room does an excellent job at warm light π
Yea I only buy it where I need it otherwise stick with tradfri
Yeah, the non-RGB TRADFRI lights are mostly great. For Hue, the "RGB" lights also feature cold-white/warm-white LEDs. (I'm not sure how TRADFRI does it, but it seems like their RGB bulbs only expose the RGB part if they even have cold-white/warm-white LEDs.)
My powered devices did show up after powercycling them. Tried taking out the battery in a remote and putting it back in again, but nothing appeared yet.
Hey. Since a couple of days my ZigBee network is slow to react. Sometimes instant but sometimes it's like up to 4ish seconds.
Hardware is the same
Where can I look? Reset all zigbee 230v routers?
Zigbee :bee: - please remember to mention whether you're using zha (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha), zigbee2mqtt (https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io), or deCONZ (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/deconz). If you're using some hub, we probably can't help you though - try the #integrations-archived channel instead.
Looking for devices? See https://zigbee.blakadder.com/ and https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/information/supported_devices.html.
Wanting advice about what stick? Look in the pinned messages. Just don't buy anything CC2530 or CC2531 based.
βοΈ so... which of those?
Status update... Only had to delete & re-pair, now it works. I noticed the other one aqara switch I had was working OK, so weird but meh. Maybe you could also revert your custom config if you feel like it.
trying to use ZHA on HA running on a docker container.... im unable to find path to the usb stick (HUSBZB-1). Is there a guide i can read ? is it a docker thing?
I would like to better ubderstand what happens when I connect a zigbee device to my ZHA integration using my Conbee II dongle.
Specifically where is the connection stored. Is there some state inside the dongle itself or is it all in the config files in my config folder. So if I would buy a new conbee stick and put it in the same USB port is everything still working or do I need to re-pair all devices. Or maybe the other way around If I clean install HA with ZHA or switch to deconz with the same dongke are all devices still connected to the dongle?
both... devices are paired to the stick but we store a bunch of metadata as well and both parts are needed for things to function correctly
so i don't know what the migration status is for conbee sticks... we have it working for sure w/ TI and SI (EZSP) sticks
Not sure I unserstand, so there is state in the dongle AND in the config? So if eighter one is replaced/cleared I would need to re-pair?
yes to first question and not necessarily for the 2nd. Some metadata in the integration can rebuild on its own when the device sends data in
if you want to switch sticks you definitely have to copy the content of the nvram on the old stick to the new stick
I just don't know if we have that for conbee sticks
@gentle flint @austere patio do either of you know if conbee has backup / restore support?
You mean export the ram from the stick, yea if that is pissible it would be nice to make a backuo of that
so we have utils for 2 chipsets for sure. just not sure about conbee
By 'we' you mean inside the ZHA integration?
the radio libs that power ZHA
only one thing can access the stick at once... so building this into ZHA may not be possible
I can see how that can be tricky
Youbwould at least have to disable normal operation temporary
I would sleep better at night knowing I can allways plug inba cold standby and have am up to date backup in case my dongke fails
Like after I pair a new device ZHA asks me if I want to make a new backup
yeah we may be able to build something into either zha startup or shut down to back this up to HA config dir
Network frame counter is buggy with the Conbee firmware and I've not a received a response from DE about it but everything else works
Migration with the zigpy command line tool works with ZNP and the Conbee but I've not had a chance to change bellows to use the extended JSON backup format.
Ah so I couls do it manually
But as for understanding how it works. I assume from this the stick has all the addresses of the connected device in its internal memory and this needs to be there for it to work
The Conbee specifically does not keep track of any children. It only stores network settings, like the channel, network key, pan ID, etc.
Normally coordinators don't need to keep track of devices that aren't a child
Ah so that's all in the config. If I would backup and restorrle the ZHA config I effectively change the connected devices
Sort of. Devices are given an address when they join and ZHA keeps track of it, so the radio just says "device 0x1234 sent data \xAB\xCD". ZHA figures out what device has that ID and what that data means.
But changing the address within ZHA's internals won't affect the device, it'll just confuse ZHA
Ah so the device remembers its given adress intil I pair it again to maybe another network. If I would restore a totally different backup of the ZHA config it might not connect again if the device was re-paired with a new ID in the meantime
I'll have to check if the Conbee radio library tries to find a device when its short address changes (since devices have a permanent, long IEEE address that never does) but I don't think it will handle device NWK changes well
So yeah, ZHA will likely not know what device is communicating with it if the ID changes (though it will fix that with TI and SiLabs radios)
So to answer your original question, the device info is spread across the zigbee.db database that stores read basic device model/manufacturer name and enumerated capabilities, ZHA's storage, and the stick itself
We'll hopefully have the info stored in the stick copied into the database in the near future but for now, the stick would need to be cloned to new hardware if you're switching it out
does ZHA have the ability to hot swap CC2xxx sticks like z2m does?
Network settings are randomly generated, written to the stick, and discarded
So if you swap sticks, the old settings were never stored anywhere (since there are no defaults, unlike Z2M's hard coded everything)
well i mean, you can set up a network with z2m with custom settings (not defaults) and switch to a different CC2xxx coordinator, and it's like you never switched
Tnx for the clear answer mostly I just wanted to know how it works π
(with some exceptions)
Yeah, that's in the works. I meant that Z2M reads its network settings from its config file and has defaults for everything, so 80% of users share a network key, EPID, etc.
yeah, having a default panID seems like an odd choice. too late now though; i'm not re-pairing 70 devices just to have a different panID than the default π
It's not an issue unless a neighor also decides to use Z2M with the default settings. I tried walking around town but couldn't find a single Z2M network π’
yup
but if they're within range and try to provision a network with the same panID, z2m will likely error out on their end
I think with the new backup/restore rewrite it'll still do it
Because that was a huge issue before and the "solution" was to increment the PAN ID
When the "existing network" was really your own routers
Yeah, we reverse engineered Z-Stack's NVRAM to get that done
of course, the july zstack firmware has proven to be a PITA
How so?
lots of network issues that didn't exist before upgrading the firmware
issues that appear to have gone away by using a different coordinator with the january firmware
Anything specific?
and did not go away by simply rolling back to a previous z2m version
unable to pair devices out of range of the coordinator was a big one
Oh, that's interesting
even after following the suggestion of unpairing all routers and then re-pairing them all
I'll have to test it out. Maybe the permit broadcast is bugged.
I used july since release till the new release without any issues, so not everyone has had issues with it. And I have 2 relatively big networks
what coordinator?
cc2652rb & cc2652p
Btw., did anyone here ever have an issue where a ZHA group sometimes looses some of its members after a Home Assistant restart? (Only in DB/ZHA -- the device still responds to group requests just fine)
(Tracking this here: https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/57200 and I'm wondering if I'm really the only one experiencing this issue)
Since the group members are saved in the zigbee.db database, I'm wondering if the issue is similar to the one where devices lost their attributes when re-added (that's now fixed).
I think I may be seeing this or at least it happened once where the members in group suddenly were't there.
Looking at the db schema, a delete is cascaded if the device endpoint is deleted from the DB
Which can happen if _save_device is called and the device has no quirk
The devices that "are lost" are all IKEA lights (and sometimes Hue lights) and both of them do not have any quirks.
Which can happen if initialization is scheduled on a device that is already initialized
Sometimes, I randomly get the following:
2021-11-26 20:43:53 INFO (MainThread) [zigpy_znp.zigbee.application] ZDO device announce: ZDO.EndDeviceAnnceInd.Callback(Src=0xD9BA, NWK=0xD9BA, IEEE=IEEE was here, Capabilities=<MACCapabilities.AllocateShortAddrDuringAssocNeeded|RXWhenIdle|MainsPowered|Router: 142>)
2021-11-26 20:43:53 INFO (MainThread) [zigpy.application] Device 0xd9ba (IEEE was here) joined the network
2021-11-26 20:44:01 WARNING (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.zha.core.channels.base] [0xD9BA:11:0x1000]: 'async_configure' stage failed: not enough values to unpack (expected 3, got 2)
"expected 3, got 2" often happens (never seemed to cause any issues though).
Edit: added the "ZDO device announce line"
my group has 5 ledvance bulbs - no quirk
Only time that happens is when a device is a new join (NWK changes), or the device isn't initialized (probably not the case)
But yeah, this is likely caused by the same database limitation, where we can't use newer SQLite features (UPSERT) due to it being upgraded by the OS and not bundled with Python itself
Eeww sqlite
Last I checked there were some Python SQLite drivers that built their own version, maybe we can use that if the provided SQLite version is too old
And fix the unintended deletion triggers causing this problem
Well, I've saved the HA log and zigbee.db before upgrading/restarting now. I'll see if any of the devices that rejoined in the last couple of days are lost after the upgrade/restart (when the beta comes out).
(I don't want to restart now because it's a little annoying to do it often, as ZHA starting takes multiple minutes and if group members are lost, the group entity disappears if there's only one device remaining in the group and I'd rather only deal with that once today lol)
In zigbee.db, group_members_v7 is the currently used place, right? (And not just group_members?)
Hmm. See if there are any INSERT OR REPLACE INTO endpoints or DELETE FROM devices queries.
Yeah, the table versions are suffixed because people like downgrading
Ah, well. It looks like the device that joined here (^) is already missing in the db
Still shows up in the ZHA groups UI
Could you send me that portion of your log (or the whole thing)? Maybe it joins multiple times or something.
Anyone has experience with TRΓ DFRI Shortcut buttons? Is it more reliable than Xiaomi ones?
Why do you prefer the xiaomi ones?
Like expected, two devices that were already missing in zigbee.db/group_members_v7 are now missing after restarting/upgrading Home Assistant.
I'll do another restart (to update HassOS) and see if I loose any more device group memberships.
Didn't loose any devices when restarting a second time in a row. (Uptime was only a couple of minutes)
I would suggest to go for the on off switch from IKEA much more actions. Or the 5 button remote. Or rather see of you can get mijia switch button these are fantastic with so many
Design and battery life
Hi all, I'm trying to pair the ikea 5 button remote to my hass 2021.11.5. The device pairs successfully with the zha integration. I'm not getting any events from the button tho. Devtools > events > Listen to events doesnt show any thing when I listen on *
fwiw, Im using the egony cc2652p rf star stick https://github.com/egony/cc2652p_cc1352p_RF-STAR/wiki/Home-EN
If you try to create an automation, and as a trigger select that device. Do actions from it show up? Like βfirst button pressedβ? See if an automation works.
I see 'device offline' or 'Power battery level changes' as the only 2 trigger actions
Ah, thats no good
Tried re-adding the remote a few times but it looks the same
The battery level doesnt show either. During the pairing process I'm seeing these errors in the logs
2021-12-04 19:45:14 DEBUG (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.zha.core.channels.base] [0x6ED7:1:0x0001]: failed to get attributes '['battery_voltage', 'battery_percentage_remaining']' on 'power' cluster: Expected SRSP response AF.DataRequestExt.Rsp(Status=<Status.SUCCESS: 0>), got AF.DataRequestExt.Rsp(Status=<Status.NWK_INVALID_REQUEST: 194>)

Looks like its unsupported
Does the battery level show on your remote?
You could try switching to Z2M and see if it works there
Was thinking of just using the ikea gateway as an integration with ha
But sucks that I have to use 2 zigbee networks
hey yo, short question π
I read the docs for emulated_hue (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/emulated_hue/) and it states this:
A physical Hue Bridge is required for Philips Hue lights to function - this virtual bridge will not replace a physical bridge. Instead, it allows Home Assistant to represent non-Philips Hue devices to Amazon Echo as Philips Hue devices, which Amazon Echo can control with built-in support.
I thought this emulation can work with my zigbee coordinator and without a real hue bridge? I might be misunderstanding the docs here. Is A physical Hue Bridge is required for Philips Hue lights to function meaning that my zigbee coordinator will also work because it will act as the "hue bridge"? So i don't need the "physical original hue bridge" when i have my zigbee coordinator running?
I mean... currently i have my hue bridge, but i obviously want to get rid of that. So my plan is to
- reset a hue light
- have this hue emulation run on my HA (non-supervised, docker)
- have the hue light connect to my "virtual hue bridge" over my physical zigbee coordinator
- have the hue light now function as usual with my amazon echo devices
Does that work as I intend?
hi
does anyone know if the
vap26 - Mini PCB inalΓ‘mbrico CC2531 Zigbee USB Dongle Pack Sniffer Protocol Anyzer ComunicaciΓ³n Distancia 200 m
is ready to use or it has to be flashed to use with HA?
with zigbee2mqtt
While a copy pasted seller description isn't enough details traditionally those sticks don't come with the firmware
it says it has a ti c25231 chip, and the zigbee to2mqtt page says this chip is not recommended
do you know why?
Seems you e skipped the reason clearly outlined on that page
ok π
do you have any recommended I can buy in Europe? I'm having a little bit of trouble finding an affordable one
if they come from china <β¬10 if they come from Europe, β¬30+
Hi, I am using 'Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus'. Works well. Before this one I happily used a USB stick with CC2531 chip. The sonoff one seems to have better signal and better handling of bigger zigbee networks.
I am in Europe as well.
did you buy it at amazon?
nope, from a local dealer. he does not have it on stock at the moment.
oh, can't find it for less than β¬40
Question is, do you want to buy a good product for more money and less problems, or a bad product for less money and more problems
β¬40 is nothing in smart house money
Four bulbs
I can get it from us for less than β¬20, that's why I'm finding it expensive
But I know there will be trouble at customs, so I don't want to get it there
If you want one for cheap just order directly from sonoff. If you are planning to use ZHA you can could get a lidl gateway and hack it. They are about 20β¬-ish.
Order direct from sonoff it comes from China
I think I'll have problems at customs... it's intended to be like that to discourage buying from outside the EU
I'm using this one, no problems so far, awesome device
what country do you live in if having to pay import tax will be a problem? π
Portugal
the problem is the time it takes and the decision of what the tax will be is rather dubious, can end up paying more from the tax then the price you paid for the itemn
a few month ago, up to β¬22.5, there were no problems
In the UK I've had no problem with my orders from itead
uk left the eu
does not sound like fun. You could have a look at ebay, there are some cc2652p coordinators from germany there
no problem ordering from itead to germany, perhaps I just had luck
the taxes are eu, the mess is ours
there used to be a customs office where you could get the items or solve problems...
never went there, but I'm told it was hours of fun waiting
I order a lot of sh*t from the internet and I haven't had to go to customs for several years. I thought all the import guidelines were loosened
the office closed and they send you a postcard saying:
you can call us at the phone number (black) or email (blank) π€·ββοΈ
at least you used to have someone to talk to solve thing, now you have a site where you can pay
have been discouraged to order from abroad lately, so I haven0t tried... guess I'll give it a try one of theses days
this sounds like 10 years ago π
naa
my wife has to handle some packages for her boss, that how I know this
it has worked on me so far π
get the device man!
π
anybody have a good experience with the IKEA stuff, ZZH, and Zigbee2mqtt ?
Yes
what's the secret?
I almost run tradfri exclusively
I've got a trio of their bulbs, they're fine
80ish bulbs and a few remotes
and the shortcut/dimmer buttons worked with ZHA but not Zigbee2mqtt
I have one on off, and two five button remotes
No problems ever
And i have three outlets too come think of it
if I go to the "states" tab and press buttons, it doesn't report anything
on the Exposes tab in Z2M it says "Action" "N/A"
Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.

but if I click the link to go to their docs it says that it should output a whole bunch of actions
mine do not
One of my automations using said button
That I use at least twice a day
At least until the kids are five I guess this will be used
in the Z2M logs if it's on debug should I see action when something happens on the zigbee network?
You see it in the broker
okay, finally got a client connected
no output on the broker when I press a button
if I update the device on Z2M it updates on HA
so MQTT's definitely working
No issues here, been using them for 2 years
what firmware are you running on your ZZH?
20210120
Are they updated to the latest version? Did you use test firmware on them?
You could try to force remove, then enable joing and start pairing. While it's interviewing, go to. the binding page and bind onOff/LevelCtrl to the coordinator
as best I can tell they are
in OTA it doesn't show anything available
Failed to configure '0xb4e3f9fffe0dcc59', attempt 3 (Error: Bind 0xb4e3f9fffe0dcc59/1 genPowerCfg from '901' failed (AREQ - ZDO - bindRsp after 10000ms) at Timeout._onTimeout (/app/node_modules/zigbee-herdsman/src/utils/waitress.ts:64:35) at listOnTimeout (internal/timers.js:557:17) at processTimers (internal/timers.js:500:7))
then if I try to forcibly add the binding to the coordinator
Failed to bind cluster 'genOnOff' from '0xb4e3f9fffe0dcc59' to 'Coordinator' (Error: Bind 0xb4e3f9fffe0dcc59/1 genOnOff from '0x00124b00238db244/1' failed (AREQ - ZDO - bindRsp after 10000ms))
Error Failed to bind
did you do it while it was being interviewed? Normally you would press a button on the remote just after pessing bind in the UI, but I had some odd issues after using test fw so it didnt work
yeah
so far this hasn't been a great experience
I originally set all of the stuff up using ZHA
it killed the batteries on everything in under a day
so I removed everything, installed new batteries, re-paired everything
That sounds like a mesh health issue
Not much of a mesh yet then
I'd check for interference etc - short battery life suggests the devices are having to burn a lot of power transmitting
No routers at all?
oh I guess you are using a silicon labs coordinator? There is a battery drain issue with that and ikea remotes. And it's experimental in z2m so that would explain the oddness
at least with some fw
So horrible then @sleek wadi
I'm using a zzh
ok, so nwm then π
TI as far as I'm aware
I've tried with the stick plugged directly in
and with it on a USB extension
neither seems to make any difference
you said the devices aren't showing all the expected entities right?
I wonder if the interview never finished
action: n/a is normal though its the current state (at least for my buttons which are not ikea)
they weren't showing the right thing in the Exports tab in Z2M
I'm walking into this kinda behind, when pairing are you clicking the button a bunch? that helps keep the device from going to sleep
yeah, I've tried doing all that
I'm running all of this on a blue
mines on similar hardware odroid
and like every 8th time I try to launch the web UI, it crashes
z2m
crash like z2m goes down, or just the web interface looks like garbage
and if you click on it again its fine
web interface is a black page
thats weird
or white page
thats really odd, I'd personally try unistalling and starting over
unless you have already
are you using the z2m docker right on the ha machine?
I'm using the add on
running supervised
just uninstalled and reinstalled
same thing
click "open web ui"
blank page
I've only ever seen that during startup
its starting up still or theres a stability issue and its crashing for some reason
it takes a bit to startup
seeing this in the logs a lot 21-12-04 15:56:59 ERROR (MainThread) [supervisor.api.ingress] Ingress error: Cannot connect to host 172.30.33.3:8099 ssl:default [Connect call failed ('172.30.33.3', 8099)]
@jolly narwhal do you have to spam a button the remotes to get them to pair?
@uneven ruin more stuff works now after uninstall/reinstall
thanks for suggesting that
no problem
now over to #zwave-archived to complain
Sorry for bumping, but would really appreciate some clarification about the situation on my hue-question^^Β°
#zigbee-archived message
Yes, emulated hue is about making HA appear in software to be a Hue hub
You can use any of the zigbee integrations to use a Hue device with HA
so i got it right, that i don'T need a "original hue hub", i just need HA and the zigbee connector, right?
Is there any downside or better way if i want to connect and use all my hue lights but i also don't want to use the original hue bridge?
Correct
Better way... nope
Pick ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT, a good coordinator, and away you go
allright, that sounds awesome π
(hopefully) last question about that: In the original hue bridge, i can use the hue app to create rooms/groups etc. Is there also some fake-hue UI in HA to mange that? Or will the emulation use the HA's internal rooms/groups?
I haven't used the Hue app, no idea I'm afraid
but... even without knowing the hue app: You can place the hue lights with ZHA and the hue-emulation into HA-groups etc and then use them with the HA alexa-integration, right? Wasn't really about that i would like the hue-bridge UI, it was more about where i mange the hue device-groups π
Why would I use Emulated Hue?
If you don't have a Hue Hub there are no Hue device groups
Trying to turn Home Assistant into a Hue Hub seems like a huge step backwards...
wait....... wait.... i might be confusing something here
so... i have like 20 hue lights with a hue bridge. I re-connected one of those lights already away from the hue-bridge and to the HA zigbee coordinator. So i can mange that light in ma HA.
I think my point is more, how can i control those lights in HA with my alexa echo devices, like I'm currently used to. so like "alexa, light 50%" etc... Maybe I confused things and don't even need the hue emulation at all
I saw some videos showing a very complicated way for setting up alexa, like creating your own AWS account, lambda-function etc... do i need to do that? or what is the purpose of those more complicated AWS-things?
See the channel called #voice-assistants-archived - but you probably want to try simply reading the integration docs for Alexa
hmm, alright, will ask there. I think i got confused about the hue emulation and since that isn'T specific to alexa, i figured i ask here.
ahh wait
that'S where i got that idea
man... why are we not allowed to insert screenshots/images here q_q
ok ok, just remembered where i got the idea for the hue emulation π
As for images
Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.

I do own 2 mijia switch buttons, however I lost the square one during moving. For the IKEA square I am hoping to use as a doorbell.
I've used a Xiaomi single button as a door bell for two years soon
Still haven't replaced the battery of it
Even if it is outside in freezing cold
Yeh, thats the one I lost π¦
IKEA one is faster to get, and about the same price.
When using HA + mosquitto + zigbee2mqtt. Would using a certificate for MQTT be more secure? https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/mqtt/certificate/
Yes
Any time you can add (proper) encryption it's "more secure"
Of course, then the question becomes what are you securing against
Thanks. I don't have a clear mental image of network. I was reading this and it stated that you need to create a new user for MQTT https://owntracks.org/booklet/guide/broker/ but it's alsready working without that user.. ?
Well, that's talking about OwnTracks
You're not asking about OwnTracks
If you're using #add-ons-archived then lots of things are handled for you
Well, #add-ons-archived are a whole other world
That add-on uses HA's users for auth
Check. Yeah I'm using both the MQTT and Z2M Addon
So in that case I wouldn't need a certificate? Is this explained somewhere?
You're confusing authentication and encryption
I repeat my question though... what are you securing against
- Other people that are not on my local network sending/reading messages to/from my zigbee devices. 2) Unauthorized people on my local network to send/read messages to/fom my zigbee devices
- Eh, what?
- You have bigger issues
haha π
So if I get this correctly: Zigbee device -- 1 --> Zigbee Hub -- 2 -- > Zigbee2MQTT -- 3 --> MQTT Broker -- 4-- > HA.
Yeah, though hub should read coordinator
And 4
And when I run the add-on, would I still need to generate the cert? Or does the add-on take care of that?
Yes you would
It would document having built in certificate generation capabilities if it had them
Ok. Check. I'll try to generate one.
And for the zigbee encryption part I just follow https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/advanced/zigbee/03_secure_network.html#change-zigbee-network-encryption-key
Remember, all the devices need to trust the cert. Self signed certs are likely to cause "fun"
But 'devices' would just be Zigbee2MQTT and HA right? Or would all zigbee devices also need to trust the cert? That sounds indeed like fun..
haha sorry just trying to wrap my head around this π
Also for authentication, why does the addon say in the docs: "Create a new user for MQTT via your Home Assistant's frontend Configuration -> Users (manage users) " while it also register a user "homeassistant" itself which seems to be used out of the box and works fine?
Ah wait I think I get it. Currently I'm only using MQTT for Zigbee devices, which would work fine because only Z2M would need the self signed cert. But If I would use MQTT with other devices in the network, they might struggle more to trust the cert. Check?
Is anyone of you guys using eurotronic zigbee thermostats with external temperature sensors?
Hi all, I am using zigbee2mqtt in HA, which works very well. Managed to connect several hue devices already. Just bought 2 Hue Iris lamps. They are automatically visible in HA. Only functionality is turning it on and off. It is a supported device in z2mqtt and would like to use slider and color changes etc. Anyone know how I can achieve this? Many thanks in advance.
Can you change said features in the zigbee2mqtt webui?
And are you running the latest version of zigbee2mqtt, with what coordinator?
Does "only functionality is turning it on and off" mean you only see this?
If so, try clicking the name of the light.
I use https://github.com/thomasloven/lovelace-slider-entity-row for sliders on the dashboard, if that's what you are after. Looks like @ashen coral has made it, thanks! π
I use a zzh cc2652R coordinator stick. I have forgot what firmware I flashed initially, can I check this somehow? Also, will a re-flash/upgrade mean I have to repair everything?? I have tried to find this on z2m website, but did not find it. Anyone?
You can also see what firmware you are running in the webui
Or the logs
It prints it on every startup
Perfect! Thanks guys! π
Yes
Shoot, I must have had a brain freeze. Works!
Hi, do you have any experience with this presence sensor? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003192562176.html
I am looking to deploy someting like this in rooms to know occupancy.
Tuya... Isn't usually great
Yes, I can confirm by one temp+humidity sensor I have from them. Do you have any suitable alternatives?
Xiaomi is great
hi! I use ZHA and wanted to test out zigbee2mqtt. I installed it and started, then stopped. After this my ZHA lost connection to all devices. I had to re-add all of them manually. It kinda works now, however I still get this message in error log:
`Your network is using the insecure Zigbee2MQTT network key!
Even though I have uninstalled zigbee2mqtt addon and deleted it's folder
I am also now experiencing problems with zigbee devices as they are often becoming "unavailable" and then return back on random, several times an hour. Not sure if this is related.
Iβd just backup and reinstall, and save yourself hours of debugging
that would be harsh
Can I update a coindinator firmware for a zigbee2mqtt network and expect not to hae to repair everything?
Anything special need to be done?
Yep, that's how it works. Nothing special needs to be done
Just update
easy
Why ZHA has less compatible devices than Z2M ? How can we help increase the list ?
sweet updated firmware on my ZZH adapter, no issues. It did take longer to start
I have this unk_model coordinator that I can't get rid of.
not sure if this visualisation means it is still participating in teh network
however I am getting a lot of packets dropped
Did you change coordinator at some point?
Is this zha?
Then I have no idea
zha is a mess.
I've never used it
They work differently. For Z2M, every device needs to be explicitly supported. ZHA just assumes all devices follow the Zigbee standard and if one device doesnβt follow it correctly, somebody can fix it with a "quirk".
Since thereβs no concrete list of which devices are supported by ZHA, it seems like the list can be smaller than Z2Mβs list.
so i've reinstalled and restored the backup on second raspberry
same problem.
if I delete zigbee.db as recommended on various places, I will lose all devices?
What problem are you having?
my main issue that my zigbee devices re juming in and out of "became unavailable" randomly
are jumping*
and I am trying to find the cause
Enable https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/#debug-logging and let it run for a few hours
I found a "unk_model" device, presented as coordinator
and in map view it is being displayed as main
It's just a visualization bug, it has no impact on your network
was trying to get rid of it, but no success
I also get a long list of child devices under this UNK coordinator
The visualization is just cached info, it has no impact on your network functionality
ok.
Hello, I've a sonoff zigbee gateway, I had issues (in case of reboot I have to reload mqtt entities or reboot the device)
What is the best zigbee gateway today?
See pinned messages
but there are tons, there isn't one above others?
I saw SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus, its in recommended, however I saw a really negative review video of NotEnoughTECH, did someone tried it?
works fine for me
Sonoff quality can be varying I've heard
I've seen extensive reports from more than a few people that they can't join new devices, though others say it works fine
yes, in the review wasn't able to connect almost no devices
So if you buy four, at least one will probably work
unless are firmware issues... I think I will buy something more prone to work
Thanks all guys!
The firmware isn't customized by Sonoff, it's just Z-Stack with Z2M's patches
oh, so maybe amazon could be tempting
never had any problem with it
thanks
is it possible to switch from ZHA to z2m without losing all of entity/device names?
I'm pretty sure you have to remove all entities and re-add them with z2m afaik
π¦
anyway I have this warning in the log:
[0xFEC8:1:0x0006]: async_initialize: all attempts have failed: [InvalidCommandResponse('Expected SRSP response AF.DataRequestExt.Rsp(Status=<Status.SUCCESS: 0>), got AF.DataRequestExt.Rsp(Status=<Status.NWK_INVALID_REQUEST: 194>)'), InvalidCommandResponse('Expected SRSP response AF.DataRequestExt.Rsp(Status=<Status.SUCCESS: 0>), got AF.DataRequestExt.Rsp(Status=<Status.NWK_INVALID_REQUEST: 194>)'), InvalidCommandResponse('Expected SRSP response AF.DataRequestExt.Rsp(Status=<Status.SUCCESS: 0>), got AF.DataRequestExt.Rsp(Status=<Status.NWK_INVALID_REQUEST: 194>)'), InvalidCommandResponse('Expected SRSP response AF.DataRequestExt.Rsp(Status=<Status.SUCCESS: 0>), got AF.DataRequestExt.Rsp(Status=<Status.NWK_INVALID_REQUEST: 194>)')]
any ideas?
Upload the full log somewhere, the final error code isn't very useful
hey, when you are around... what device is this. the cluster here is the lightlink cluster...
In that case it was a "LCA001" Hue light. I think it happens with all newer (Bluetooth-enabled) Hue lights. (In this case itβs a E27 Hue RGB bulb)
wanna modify some code and test something?
whenever you can
PM me when you are free and we can investigate
I am betting they aren't spec compliant w/ ZCL
Haha, thatβs likely
Will do!
Just wondering if anyone had pointers for a proper way to get a quirk started...
I've had this issue https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues/1091 open for a little over a month now and starting to consider getting a quirk written myself. I tried before but it didn't even load :/
at the very basic level I just need the two climate entites to respect the running state from the device π
Hi. Can anyone explain to me how I could bind a phillips remote (RWL021) to a light bulb or switch directly?
I would love to be able to turn on and off a light bulb and a switch directly without HA as I always have problems with ZHA not beeing loaded yet when the automations are loaded on startup leading to the automations not working until I turn them on and off again. This is also a problem I would like to solve, but for now I would like do understand how I can bind devices directly to each other as there is nothing happening when I click bind in the UI. π₯΄
I have two pairs of SA-003-Zigbee by eWeLink plugs (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08G46WWBB/ and https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08K45W4LR/ which are essentially the same; just different manufacturers). They are basically the same as the eWeLink Plug 10A UK (Zigbee Plug-UK) except mine are US https://zigbee.blakadder.com/eWeLink_Zigbee-Plug-UK.html. They work great. Using ZHA with Nortek HUSBZB-1 controller. My only problem is they report as a light and not a switch. I did find a post where someone mentioned the same but nothing came from the discussion (https://community.home-assistant.io/t/ewelink-sa-003-zigbee-switch-appair-as-light/139634). Is there anything I can do to get these devices defined as switches and not lights?
here's a an example you stick this under zha: in configuration.yaml:
zha:
device_config:
ec:1b:bd:ff:fe:80:39:b7-1:
type: 'cover'
00:12:4b:00:1f:94:56:e8:
type: 'switch'
you the IEEE address of the device and then the type you want it to be
(reminds me I have a powerstrip that is by eWeLink and have been meaning to do this for it, as it reports as 3 lights).
and the -1 is the end point if I remember correctly.
and link to the docs: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/#modifying-the-device-type
so if I add that to the configuration.yaml, it should correct things after a reboot?
yes
Anyone know of zigbee light switches that are reasonable. I rather have them than wifi/tula as they are unreilable in my experience. However, when I look they are at least double the price of wifi switches
just to clarify: no need to reboot; just need to restart HA
Are you referring to Core, Supervisor, or Host? (I already did a restart under server management but now I'm curious.)
HA == Core
Will give that a try next time. Thank you.
restarting under server management restarts HA, so you're good
worked like a charm. did have to go through and delete the old light. entities but the devices are now identified as switches. This is good because now my light automations won't see those devices as being on.
Yeah.. I updated mine as well and went back and deleted the light entities as well
I'm going to add to the forum post that I found even though it is from 2019 (but was not resolved in the thread).
Good morning, can you tell me what is the difference between.
CC2652P vs C2652R. P has ampliefier (vs none) and only 26 GPIO (vs 31) pins. What does this mean for my use under Proxomox for HomeAssistant?
Unless you're planning on compiling your own firmware for the CC2652 that uses GPIO pins, practically there isn't a difference
https://electrolama.com/radio-docs/advanced/ti-part-numbers/ gives a good summary
The TL/DR though is as puddly said
yo, i'm going to add some motion sensors and since it's new year soon - delivery from china will be too long.
So i'd like to get something locally - will i be able to use xiaomi hub as zigbee hub for HA?
There are three Zigbee options with Home Assistant (regardless of how you install it). These are:
deCONZ is relatively stable and mature with its own UI (and Discord server). It can run in an add-on, in a Docker container, or natively. Only the ConBee range of sticks and RaspBee GPIO boards are supported. Known working devices are documented, and how to request support for a new device is documented too (you can't add unsupported devices yourself).
zha is actively developed as part of Home Assistant Core, using the zigpy stack, the UI also being part of Home Assistant. The EmberZNet based sticks are recommended (though the HUSBZB-1 uses an older chipset), but there are other options. There is no list of supported devices, as any standards compliant device should work. Devices that require extra support are listed, and adding unsupported devices is documented.
Zigbee2MQTT is very actively developed and can run in an add-on, in a Docker container, and natively. As of 1.15 has a native UI, and it also uses MQTT for control and configuration. It supports mostly TI based sticks, with the recommended option being the [CC2652 based sticks](#zigbee-archived message). If you want to use an EmberZNet stick see this issue. The known working devices are well documented (which usually includes how to pair them so you don't have to find the manual), and adding unsupported devices is also documented.
there is no sticks locally i should order it from china but i'd like to use them now π
Where is locally?
Then be prepared for a shitty experience
Your lack of patience is going to cost you time and money
russia
At least one CC2652 based seller is in Russia
Usually AliExpress has local Russia warehouses, not sure if any good cc2652 on Ali though
This one isn't sold in a traditional online shop (as far as I can tell) but I believe it was one of the first CC2652p sticks: https://github.com/egony/cc2652p_E72-2G4M20S1E/wiki
There seems to be random issues with the zigbee network in my house. Conbee II on a mini computer, zigbee2mqtt with and without usb extension cord. (In the barn with much worse conditions it seems to work fine with a rpi 3b, without usb extension cord, zigbee2mqtt, conbee II) In the house I have especially some issues with 2+2 types of IKEA led drivers and (one my newest) phillips hue light strip. The units with issues is also the ones with best /closest location to the coordinator. I do not see any issues or warning mentioned on the z2m pages for these devices either. Any suggestions? https://paste.debian.net/1222196/
there are some on local ebay but they're in moscow and that's fine i could get them in 3-4 days but price is like 35 usd which is too much comparing to ali price (it's like $5, right?)
Buy something CC2652 based. This list is a good one, both Tube and Electrolama have been proven to have excellent customer service. The current generation of EZSP sticks (see here for some) are also a good choice for ZHA.
Anything CC2530 or CC2531 based should be avoided - they're old, slow, and only suitable for a dozen or so devices. The Sonoff ZBbridge isn't advised since it uses WiFi (built in interference causing stability/reliability issues), and the HUSBZB-1 uses an older chipset so should be avoided.
Finally, the ConBee range are fine with deCONZ, but experience with ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT appears to be mixed.
got it ty
Also, i'm sorry again for stupid questions, but i didn't get it - for zigbee sensors, how would it work? I mean will i be able to use any xiaomi/tuya sensors and will they just be found and recognized by HA or i should get a list of compatible sensors before i buy
Once you pick ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT then they have a wide range of support for various devices
There are brands that are known to be better/worse than others, and various quirks to be aware of, but it's mostly straightforward if you're remembering to research first
I'm stuck on this problem with the AqaraH1 dual button switches. In the zha_events the same text is displayed whether I press the left button or the right button.
In this post is the detail: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/zha-aqara-wireless-remote-switch-double-rocker/256231/34
Do you know what else can be done to distinguish the left button from the right one?
Yesterday my ZigBee coordinator from tube with Ethernet did not respond anymore. When powering it off and back on it worked again in Z2M. I'm not sure what happened. Is it a known problem? Never had this before though. Any thoughts of what could cause this or do I have to keep logs from now o
I'm using 2 home assistant servers which both connect to it controlling around 110 devices. Could 2 Z2M add-ons at the same time cause a crash? Or should the cc2652p2 with esp be powerfully enough to send so much mqtt messages
Two instances of z2m can't surely use the same coordinator
Two HAs using the same broker on the other hand
I have a backup system that kicks in when the main system goes offline. And has been rock solid for a while now. When I update my main system the backup system kicks in and controlling all the important automations until it comes back online.
But both are connected to the same ZigBee coordinator
Your system goes offline?
You should fix that
Mine hasn't gone unintentionally offline for almost three years
You don't have planned outage windows?
Mine doesn't too. But when updating the OS the system goes offline for example
That you announce to your families?
More then once I have wrecked my install.. but with the right backup 10 minutes for getting it back up sounds right
I just don't want the system to go offline through a hardware failure while I'm away. This way everything keeps working when it fails
I have customers that have worse disaster recovery plans than me, and that scares me
But this ZigBee coordinator failing on me. Worries me the most. A backup system can't fix that
Fun fact for you, I've only had to do one rollback for customers in 14 years, that is how good I plan upgrades
And it was the customers fault...
I understand.. but a raspi running in the background just in case doesn't hurt anyone. I only need to know if this could crash the coordinator
2 installs and 1 coordinator doesnt sound.... supported
but, if its a proper backup, and both arent accessing it at the same time...
like, if its got the exact same network map etc, i personally dont think it would matter
(but im no expert)
No it's using mqtt. So if I send an mqtt message to the coordinator it shouldn't matter from which devices it's coming
But I guess I'm the only one doing this so just need some testing to see if this was a one time thing or if it keeps happening
It could also be a network error.
I will put a wifi smartplug between the socket and the coordinator to being able to switch it off and back on when it doesnt react
I'll add my 2 cents. I had my zigbe netork working, then I made a full backup. Then I messed around a little. Then I restored the previous backup and.... nothing works. I had to manually re-pair all devices
With what integration?
I have never had to repair with Z2M except when I migrated from the cc2531 years ago, and I've broken my host and moved the stick between three hosts
Can someone recommend me a 230v relais with dimmer function and zigbee compatability that I can hide in the cover of my ceiling lamp to make it smart? Preferably available in Europe.
You changed integrations no? Thatβs different
did not change it in this case
I'm no expert but it looks like some configurations are eing saved to the dongle itself?
The readme in the repo explains how to with a lot of detail by breaking down an existing one
yeah... I had a look before and didn't really get anywhere.
got a quirk written that nver loaded
it logs the entire matching process at startup
If it didnβt load the log should explain why
It will tell you which elements prevent it from applying: device type, cluster mismatch etc
guys, I was battling this for two straight days, looks like I will need your help.
I am running ZHA on CC2652 and all of my devices are unstable, log is full of "became unavailable"
and I also have several different warning messages in the log
like:
components/zha/core/channels/base.py:428
DeliveryError('Request failed after 5 attempts: <Status.MAC_NO_ACK: 233>')
Is your mesh strong? Do you have many routers?
i have like 15 devices and 4 routers
now 2 disconnected, so only the stick and single smart socket left, with hope to find a rogue router
https://i.imgur.com/bnAu7an.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/ZHMYCIq.jpg <- boiler_on is full of "unavailable" gaps
this is just to show how often this is
What is the best way to add support for an unsupported device to zigbee2mqtt
Yeah im just confused where to put the .js file
I have one I found online for my device
Is it just under /config/zigbee2mqtt/[there]? (HAOS add on)
Depends on how you installed Z2M
Yeah, no idea about the add-on
Pretty sure you can add them through the UI, normally
@sour shadow So I am trying to do what this guy in the second screenshot did, and this is how Iβve laid it out in my folder structure https://imgur.com/a/cWZZL0c
Iβm just confused as Z2MQTT just complains it canβt do anything with the device
Yeah, I know nothing about the add-on
Ah all good, hope someone else might be able to help
(or even if you have any tips on how to force it)
Once youβve added the js in the zigbee2mqtt folder you can add to the addon configuration the file in the converters entry. Like:
`external_converters:
- yourconverter.js`
Then restart Z2M to get it loaded
I did that, still no dice. Surprised since the provided converter code should be fine
that's odd, can you see the converter in Z2M > Parameters > external converters?
(Additionally, I'd recommend making a converters folder and putting all converters in this folder, just for maintainability)
As in the name there?
yes
Yes itβs there
the last thing to check is if your device is inside that converter (check the definition segment for model, manufacturer and zigbee_model)
manufacturer == vendor
compare it to the payload received when trying to pair the device
the real important here is zigbee_model which have to be exactly the same as :
Zigbee2MQTT:warn 2021-11-01 12:00:00: Device '0xaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa' with Zigbee model 'yourzigbeemodel' and manufacturer name 'yourmanufacturer' is NOT supported, please follow https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/how_tos/how_to_support_new_devices.html
anyone tried this multi-mode gateway?
https://solution.tuya.com/projects/CMa8kjgmijv3tp
why tho
Where do you want to begin?
I was actually looking in to ESP32, if it could handle both BLE and zigbee
ah. Didn't know that. Was hoping to integrate it locally
It's Tuya, of course it's going to use a cloud service
At least they fixed the latest set of problems with their services
ok, shit then
Particularly given point #2
unless someone does ESP32 for it
But if they do, you're back to the point where you didn't need to buy their hardware
Just do the sane thing, run ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT for all your Zigbee
well I did not see any other hardware
single gateway with BLE and zigbee, preferably with PoE
You're clearly missing the point of Home Assistant
It is your gateway
Why would you want to go shoot yourself in the foot by locking yourself into a manufacturer's ecosystem?
I am having issues with BLE range
Then you can solve that with ESPHome
it could also house a zigbee chip.
would not need a cumbersome and expensive usb stick
Most of the existing Zigbee coordinators based off of the CC2652 are designed and built by hobbyists.
Nothing stopping you taking the same approach and designing and building your own one with BLE capabilities.
π
HA is already taking too much life out of me
even though I'm an engineers and I COULD, I wont.
oh, I see HA has it's own hardware, the amber
which kinda solves all of this
Well, it's not amber any more, but that's partially the goal
Of course, if you're having issues with BLE range that's not going to solve it
I see it does not have BLE radio?!
Makes no sense to pack a lot of radio on the same space
This is why we have interference
if it can be a nice looking box, I could hand it somewhere in the living room, close to all BLE devices
It's basically a Pi with an expansion board
No need, put one esp32 in the living room
by the way. CC2652 supports both zigbee and BLE
were there any attempts to make both work at the same time?
Because of interference that makes little sense for most i guess
Makes more sense with the cc1352p2 with the ZigBee and subghz
different topic: anyone tried these? I wonder how much hassle it will be to setup
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002900626733.html
If they're actually Zigbee, should be no worse than anything else that's unsupported
I have one
Can't get it to work properly in a group
But I haven't bothered troubleshooting it the last 4 months

They look rather nice though, do they feel ok, not cheap junk?
there are some reviews on youtube, look nice
The rotation mechanism feels good
And the click is good
It rotates endlessly, so I just spin it until I get high or low
So the build quality is good, it just doesn't behave when I added it to a group this summer
ok now, I have a quizz
I have a "tuya" zigbee relay connected to a gas boiler
and it is periodically going to "unavailable"
this is too stable to be interference...
which is better USB Stick CC2652P2 or CC2652P for Home Assistant integration
thanks for help
The P2 designation is for the little pre-built Zigbee module, I don't think there's a CC2652P2 chip.
But they're functionally the same
For Aqara 2 buttons remote (WRS-R02) both button send the exact same zha_event. Do you think it could be fixed with a ZHA quirk ? (I am using Conbee2 with ZHA)
thanks ... i think i buy CC2652P ... actually i use a conbee II
depends on what the device does.
https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee-herdsman-converters/issues/3147 looks like same thing w/ Z2M
What coordinator do you have?
looks like we should be able to make it work... w/ some messing around
Found it for 11 on ali btw
https://aliexpress.ru/item/1005003606767695.html
80% chance it works
Update the firmware if you do get it, some people report that it doesn't permit joins until you flash the latest build. Dunno what Sonoff flashes at the factory.
I've just ordered it btw i have positive feedback about if from russian HA community, they saying that works just as plug and play
It's a CC2652P, they all are plug and play. The only problem is that some people report that their coordinators don't actually allow new devices to join.
Sonoff has released defective coordinators in the past so it's either a bad batch of coordinators or a lot of people are buying them because they're cheap and naturally have more problems
gotcha ty for the tip
Phoscon ConBee II - is this a decent zigbee device to talk with my lights etc?
(apologies if not the right place to post)
so you say a ConBee II isn't great for ZHA? I've literally joined this discord with a couple of questions
It'll work but other coordinators work better with ZHA
You can still ask questions, you know (I, for one, am an heretic running Z2M with a ConBee II coordinator :))
I've got a few bulbs working ok with it, and currently 1 switch powered... but it seems the signal is really poor for the switch https://imgur.com/GqDlBz3 is the visualisation
switch often drops out, and the lights don't seem to speak to the switch to relay signal? i thought they would as they're always powered/on and listing as routers... is there a way to force them to speak?
first things first, if you use a ConBee II, you should put it on a USB cable so it's not plugged in directly in your box
i have, it's on a 2m extension
i've put it on a curtain rail for now, to raise the height
ok don't overdo it either π
haha
Update to the latest HA beta and re-join the device. There was a bug (with the library that talks to the Conbee) that did not permit joins on every router on the network, so the device joined to the only parent that was allowing joins.
You can also probably unplug the coordinator for a bit and interact with the device or remove its battery (if it has one), that should also get it to pick another parent
?!? you sure it'll switch parent with no coordinator on the network?
It's still on the network, its parent is just offline. The coordinator doesn't really behave all that different from any other router on the network after it has sent the network key to a newly joined device.
ooh that I didn't know, nice to learn stuff everyday π
i'll happily give it a try, will unplug it for an hour or so!
thank you for the suggestion π i will report back
A few minutes is fine. Just as long as the device tries to send something to its parent and the parent will never respond.
(Assuming the Tuya switch does what the spec says)
unlike Aqara ones...
if it doesn't, i'll update to HA beta - one question... when you say re-join... you mean remove the switch and re-add?
Yes
cheers
You can also remove the device from HA and re-join it but instead of clicking the "add device" button, go to the router that you want it to join through and click the "add devices via this device" (or whatever it's called) button
i tried removing it from HA already and re-added it, didn't make any difference - i was wondering if there's a way to force the switch to speak to the lights
The way you add it makes a difference. Normally the "add devices" button asks every router on your network to permit joins. There's a bug in the current stable (fixed in beta) that makes that request not work, so only your coordinator is really permitting joins. You either have to update to the beta and re-join it, or reset it and specifically join it through a close router with that "add devices via this device" button.
Or the Conbee doesn't allow you to permit joins through only a single router and it always permits joins, I haven't checked. In that case there's not a whole lot you can do other than unplug the Conbee and hope the device finds the new parent.
Yes you can join a router of your choice with a ConBee
Done it in ZHA back when I was using it, and doing it from time to time on Z2M when needed
when needed == when pairing Aqara devices...
You can send the request but some coordinators (and firmwares) also require you to open joins through the coordinator as well, so a joining device can still pick the coordinator if it wants to. This was the case with older Z-Stack firmware builds, dunno if the Conbee behaves the same way.
that it does
when you permit join on a single router, the coordinator seems to also permit join
but if the switch is closer to a bulb, it should pick the best router available
Does Zigbee network "adjusts" ? Looking at the graph in ZHA, some links don't really make sense geographically (like some very far away stuff are connected with very bad RSSI, where there are much closer routers available)
Depends on the devices. What coordinator are you using?
Sonoff wifi bridge flashed with tasmota zb. Gonna switch to a conbee when I'm motivated enough to relink everything
Tried to understand the pins but its not in noob speak π Intending to run it on docker/unraid. Still go with cc2652?
i had a massive performance drop with the beta, signal strength was real low even between the lights - i did try and add device via the closest light (about 2m away), but still went through the zigbee communicator in the end
i've reverted for now, as beta also messed up my light group/entities from hue
good to know how to get into beta for bits and pieces, likewise add device via xyz is quite nice to know!
thanks for your help
HA beta shouldn't have any impact on signal strength, that's way outside the software's control
reported strength
Yeah, there have been absolutely no changes to the Conbee radio library aside from that one
weird
And it can't impact any low-level network stuff like RSSI
The Conbee seems to have issues after "restarting" so that's probably why
There was a change in the ZHA map. In versions before the current beta, the map showed green colors even though it shouldn't have. (https://github.com/home-assistant/frontend/pull/10616/files)
How did you determine that the signal strength is actually lower? (Which shouldn't even matter if all your devices are working fine)
It's the same Zigbee network with the same signal strengths/LQI values. The visualization colors were just fixed in the first beta release.
Evening all - any reason why my zigbee devices would just stop working? I am using a GoControl USB passed through a VM
just randomly stopped working, and rebooting the VM doesn't seem to fix anything
Did all Zigbee devices stop working?
Did you see if there's anything in the Home Assistant logs? (Connection failure to the stick?)
Ah, UNRAID has been fine with VM passthrough for me.
Are you using ZHA (the integrated integration "Zigbee Home Automation" in Home Assistant) or Zigbee2Mqtt?
If you're using ZHA, try enabling debug logging: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/#debug-logging and restart Home Assistant, then check the logs for errors again.
let me take a look
I just restarted my unraid server
i hadn't touched it in so long so just weird
If it still doesn't work, try stopping the VM, replugging the coordinator and then starting the VM again. Maybe the stick crashed or whatever.
yeah it's a possibility
kinda weird though
honestly makes me want to just go to lutron for everything
and simplify my life
π
but it's pricey for sure
Zigbee has mostly been working just fine for me (even passed through a VM in UNRAID).
The GoControl HUSBZB-1 uses a chip that's already a bit dated, but should still work fine. (There are firmware updates for it too)
how to update the firmware on it through Unraid?
or do I have to plug it into a laptop or something
and what's the better zigbee/zwave USB dongle now?
Any TI CC2652 based stick should work great with ZHA and Z2M. (Only some Sonoff sticks based on those chips are reported to have issues)
Otherwise, Silabs based sticks are good for ZHA.
I don't use Z-Wave at all though.
Regarding your current stick:
it should still work just fine, if you didn't change anything. If you turn on debug logs and restart Home Assistant, you should see why the stick doesn't appear to work.
Firmware upgrade instructions can be found here: https://github.com/walthowd/husbzb-firmware
Note: I don't own/haven't flashed a HUSBZB-1 stick myself. It's probably easiest to just plug it in your personal machine rather than doing it through UNRAID/HassOS (which is also possible but more difficult).
See the pinned messages at the top for some more information about other sticks. (There are also instructions for upgrading your current stick via HassOS)
This isnβt the mapβ¦ that PR corrects a table column sort in the view children dialog for a router device
Nvm I canβt read
also, I haven't forgotten about debugging that "failed to unpack" error on the LightLink cluster. I just didn't find the time yet
I enabled the logs, lets see what it says
ahh, I was wondering why it wasn't mentioned in the PR description
my hue device works
Scratch that⦠nothing was changed there
but that's basically a bridge
The model changes to fix the dialog necessitated that
So my original comment holds true
There should be 0 functional changes to the map view
oh, interesting
I changed the type of the field in the model object
So the changes to the visualization was just to account for the type change
well, it seems to have changed my map's colors.
that said I am legit color blind both red green and blue / purple spectrum so I struggle with that
If it did change and itβs correct then great π
For this I just wanna change 1 log line
to include the exception content
yeah, sure. I guess I have time now
Iβll dm the details
FYI, unplugged it and plugged it back into another USB port -- success π
sometimes it really feels like stupid problems π
many thanks
Thatβs great to hear!
Well that was it, turns out the manufacturer name was slightly different. Now that was fixed and the light is happy to work! Thanks so much!
guys, it is possible to create dynamic zigbee groups via a service call? I'm using node-red. I would like to pass a list of lights to create a dynamic group, set parameters for that group to control these lights, and then dismantle that group. Is that a thing?
oh, and I'm using the ZHA integration
I would assume this would be done via invoking the zha domain manually, but I don't know where to find a list of attributes that I could use
I mean, except those found in devtools/services, but the only relevant service I found there is zha.issue_zigbee_group_command, and this seems to be working only on established groups
I could also live with premade groups, if I could dymamically add or remove devices from them
aw, too bad, It'd cut a lot of my zigbee traffic π
Good morning, to those central europeans.
I have this zigby light switch.. I add it as device and it appears as:
TS0601 by _TZE200_nkjintbl
No entities are shown
And also no zha events are generated when I toggle the switch...
What now?
ποΈ
Yes
Ok, looks like there are numerous requests for similar switches out there. Looks like it os using a tuya proprietary protocol... I guess I should avoid tuya products, as it's not the first time I have to bin something.
try to subscribe to every events and see if something happens when you click it. I have a switch that generates only state_changed events when clicked. I can still use it in automations because every state_changed events of these device contains a 'command' attribute in its payload. Maybe yours is the same.
I can't show you an example of a payload because its battery went kaput yesterday... waiting for a replacement later today.
I tried to listen to zha_event, but nothing happens when I click it
similar reports out there
yeah as I said try to listen to * events very briefly, when you click on the device, you might get several events, but hopefully you'll get one from the device
I'm pretty sure ZHA doesn't yet have this device in its quirks - they've recently added some Tuya switches to https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers - but this hasn't been yet pushed to homeassistant (I also have a Tuya wallswitch)
or submit a device request at https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues
anyone have experience with** Sunricher Smart Zigbee-dimmer** . I want to make all my my light switches smart and it seems like an affordable product (the switches themselves are yellow from sun wear so need the plastic physical switch to be replaced at the same time)
or any other alternative for replacing the entire wall switch and make is smart at teh same time
(Reposting from #hardware-archived)
Hi guys, i just bought 2 ikea bulbs (LED2002G5) and I can't pair it to ZHA correctly.
It first pairs, I can control it, then few seconds after pairing it unpairs !
Erf can't post screenshots here :( i wanted to post some of the log.
You can see the note 0x33d0 pairing, giving info, and the "left the network".
Never had this behaviour before, even with my other 3 years old ikea bulb.
https://zigbee.blakadder.com/Ikea_LED2002G5.html
It's supposed to be supported by tasmota and z2m but not zha. Is there a known issue ? Maybe with the "no handler for ZDO" seen in the log ?
Anyone know why battery statuses in Zigbee2MQTT don't work on some devices? For me it doesn't show on Ikea shutter button (but shows on the shutter itself), Lumi weather sensor or the samsung smartthings button.
I had weird issues like this, and it turned out to be a bug in the kernel driver for the usb dongle, after upgrading to a newer kernel all the issues went away.
Edit: Dug up the bug report on the subject: https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee2mqtt/issues/8663
Noob question: Using Hassos on VBox, I swapped out my cheapo zigbee adaptor(coordinator) for a Sonnoff USB3.0. I was using Zigbee2Mqtt with original zigbee adaptor so I uninstalled that addon and swapped the hardware. After swapping hardware and booting up I re-installed Zigbee2Mqtt and was shocked to see that my devices that were paired to the original adaptor were bound and working? How? I thought the end devices were paired to the coordinator and would need to be reset and re-paired? Don't get me wrong I'm happy but confused.
hi again. I have one more issue with my light swithes. Had a couple of these installed and they worked well:
https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/H0625c6e4c2694347bf975ca9ff2d1f05p/Zigbee-No-Neutral-Push-Button-Light-Switch-Smart-Wall-Switch-Single-Line-Fire-Wire-1-2.png_.webp
Then I messed up something and all devices somehow lost their pairings (but remained in the list), so I had to re-pair all devices manually.
The problem is that these switches do not have a button to press... They enter in to pairing mode when connection is lost.
Somehow they are still seeing the connection as active, but appear as unavailable, and I can't re-pair them.
tried the power toggle, did not help. Any ideas?
tried to power down the HA and start another raspberry with different zigbee stick, and it paired normally
so it seems like my main HA somehow retains the connection, or the switches think there is a connection...
Is there anybody who knows the status of ZHA and ZigBee Green Power (ZGP) integration? #zha #zgp
Anyone know of any tricks to getting Philips Hue Motion Sensors working nicely with ZHA? I'm using CC2652 - zzh, but getting terrible delays on the occupancy sensor. It also flashes a red light sometimes when detecting motion - I remember reading somewhere that may indicate a communication issue?
Hmm strange thing is all my other zigbee devices are OK with no delay. I'm using docker on a virtual machine with the zzh passed thru to the VM.
I had really weird issues with that one, on ZHA my Ikea shortcut buttons wouldn't even connect, but my Aqara door sensors worked fine. On Zigbee2MQTT, my Aqara door sensors had massive delay, but the shortcut buttons worked. If that bug affects you, could well be the source of your issues. I also had smart plugs that would randomly turn themselves off, then not allow me to turn them back on again.
all worked perfectly as soon as I upgraded the kernel to a newer version
Hmm will check it out, thanks!
