All of the radios that I'm aware of expose LQI info, which is a better indication than just raw RSSI

ZHA

austere patio

It's shown in the device page

ocean cloak
#

Thanks I see it!

austere patio
#

It's also shown in the network visualization as the numbers between devices

ocean cloak
#

Where is that? I think I've stumbled across it before

#

Think I found it. Odd, though, there doesn't seem to be a line connecting my hub with the zigbee device. Why might that be?

austere patio
#

It may not be connected directly to your coordinator

ocean cloak
#

What do you mean directly?

#

My coordinator is on the network via ethernet which is how ha communicates with it

#

but it would have to go through the hub to talk to ha

austere patio
#

Zigbee is a mesh network so your end device may not necessarily communicate directly with the coordinator

ocean cloak
#

It's my only zigbee device right now

#

And even so, it would still have a line to some other device if it was on a mesh, no?

austere patio
#

In that case it probably hasn't been scanned by the visualization tool yet, I think it does it only every couple of hours

#

But it's best-effort, not every connection can always be picked up

ocean cloak
#

Well it's been hooked up for a while, though I have had some downtime with ha a few hours ago

#

In any case, I need some downtime so I'm off to bed. Thanks for the help!

Hi!

I have an issue with my ZigBee network and I don't know how to fix it. Hope anyone here could help me out.

I have one sensor that was not sending update values and a switch that seems to be unreachable by the node.

I have forced deleted both (because delete failed) and now when trying to pair them again those never join the network again.

Permit join is enabled.

Any clues? Should I provide the log? (I got it in debug mode)

You probably need to restart Z2M to have the devices show up again

Ok. Restarting πŸ‘

There was a bug introduced around 1.20 where if you deleted a device it wouldn't show in the UI again until you restart Z2M

It would turn up in HA though

#

(at least, usually)

valid wharf
#

It has rebooted now. Stll not seeing the devices. I'm going to try again the pair procedure

valid wharf
#

Not adding any new devices. I got three entities that have Γ± caracter in their names. I have changed the names to avoid it and rebooted again

valid wharf

I have managed to pair one (a magnetic door/window sensor). Will try the other one in a bit

Hi all I have a question regarding ZHA using Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus

obsidian sandalBOT
#

Don't ask to ask, just ask your question. Then people can answer when they're around.

When you do ask a question, try to provide as much background detail as possible. Ask yourself these questions first so that others don't have to:

  1. What version of the Home Assistant are you running? (remember, last isn't a version)
  2. What exactly are you trying to do that won't work?
  3. Is the problem uniform or erratic?
  4. What's the exact error message?
  5. When did it arise?
  6. What exactly don't you "get"?
  7. Can you share sample code, ideally with line errors where the error occurs?
grizzled orbit
#

why I can't see the links signal quality on map?

#

on the ZHA network map I can't see the links between devices

sour shadow
#

A lack of links for end devices isn't uncommon

grizzled orbit
#

😦

sour shadow
#

Are you seeing links between routers and the coordinator/other routers?

grizzled orbit
#

no

sour shadow
#

Well, that's less common ablobjoy

grizzled orbit
#

I cant paste image here...

obsidian sandalBOT
#

Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.

Image posting is blocked in most channels to discourage people from sharing text as images. Sharing text as images assumes that everybody sees the world as you do, which isn't the case. Some people are colour blind, or have visual impairment that means they can't make sense of an image of text.

grizzled orbit
#

maybe is the Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus

#

that not support it

sour shadow
#

It should, the same chipset on Z2M certainly shows links

There is something fishy with the zigbee2mqtt on my hassos.... Yesterday I had a couple of zigbee devices visible in the mosquitto broker integration... this morning I had all the devices visible and now I have only 1 left.. All devices is working in the zigbee2mqtt dashboard.. what can be causing this behaviour? Apparently my config should be OK since they were there earlier? #

Zigbee2mqtt is in use

twilit narwhal
# jolly narwhal Then buy something else before you move to z2m

I have to say this... ConBee II stick is not anymore on experimental status in Z2M. It's even listed as "recommended" (check https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/adapters/#recommended).
Sure you need to update the firmware to 26720700 to fully support all functionality but it's not uncommon to flash CC2652 either.
Maybe the message "buy something else before moving to Z2M" is a bit extreme (I use ConBee II with Z2M and I am quite happy with it now - used to be a bit rough, but very stable now)

austere patio
#

Was it explicitly marked non-experimental or did this just change with the docs redesign?

#

It's not a bad coordinator, it just has quirks and is extremely picky about its RF environment. And will outright refuse to work when in the same spot as any other coordinator

twilit narwhal
austere patio
#

Though from an open source perspective, I would still recommend the CC2652. The Conbee's firmware is completely closed source (tbf Z-Stack isn't completely open either) and isn't fully documented, nor can do it do everything Z-Stack can.

twilit narwhal
#

I agree that if you go ConBee you need an USB cable to take it away from the box, mine is sticked to the back of the TV and works very fine. But ConBee has a very nice range when placed correctly for a antenna-less stick

twilit narwhal
#

but my point was not to launch a fude (more of a debate actually) about which is the best stick as I didn't test other ones, I just see everytime someone says he has a ConBee, someone answers "change stick before anything". I just wanted to point out that that's probably an old position and not based on any recent experience. Once again I might be wrong and atxbyea may have tested it recently, but that's not my experience at least

austere patio
#

I don't think the Conbee inherently has any flaws, it's just more sensitive. And a PITA to write code for.

jolly narwhal
#

Since we have multiple users every week come in and say xyz doesn't work and are running Conbee it doesn't really hold well in its favour

twilit narwhal
#

I see a lot of messages saying something doesn't work with a lot of devices configuration. That's discord world ! πŸ˜„

jolly narwhal
twilit narwhal
#

but once again, maybe you're right, I just think it's a bit hard to say to someone that's looking for help to change hardware as a first step. And Z2M can work very nicely even with a ConBee (that's my small experience at least). the only devices I have issues with are listed with those flaws in Z2M

I want to install some LED strips after disappointment with the Philips Hue strip. They will be for basic indoor lighting (under kitchen cabinets, in closets, mounted on ceiling in rooms without overhead lights) and don't need to be individually addressable. I think a RGBCCT 5050 strip will meet my needs. With a strip, power supply, and controller, I'm looking at this costing around $100. Does that seem right? I want to make a few, so it seems pretty expensive. (I plan on buying from Ali Express if cheaper there, after a test build.)

I picked these items:

Any changes recommended?

Zigbee users...

#

I'm aware that zigbee is a standard, but does that mean that zigbee device A works with zigbee device B?

#

So, I have an IKEA TRADFRI hub right now. Can I just buy random zigbee shit and have it all just...work?

near echo
#

Technically yes, but each proprietary hub introduce their own restriction. That's why here we ask you to get rid of proprietary hub and choose one mentioned either in z2m or ZHA and control almost any zigbee devices

last mauve
#

Oh, interesting. I didn't know there was such a thing as proprietary hub.

#

im not big on the idea of running a USB stick though

lilac wharf
#

Doesn't need to be USB necessarily. There are serial-over-ethernet coordinators

last mauve
# lilac wharf Why's that?

Firstly form factor. I have HA running on a pi and where it is in my rack would make that a pain. Secondly, flexibility. My pi is in my basement. I like the fact that I can plug into an Ethernet jack and use that to communicate with the hub.

#

I like the fact that the ZigBee radio doesn't necessarily have to be on the same place as the HA host

#

Plus, HA is running in docker swarm which doesn't allow you to map devices into it

Hi, I'm migrating from a Pi to a container, and I figured I should do the migration from deconz to zha at the same time. I get zsh to find by conbee stick, but I'm wondering if the stick is supposed to "remember" the zigbee network, or if I need to reconnect all the devices manually?

#

Admittedly, I don't have a lot of devices connected to it, so I can probably survive doing it manually, but I was kind of expecting things to turn up.

austere patio
#

ZHA will use the network settings on the stick if it has them, but it won't be aware of any device on the network until they re-join. If you have mains-powered routers, just turn them off and on at the switch.

#

Yea I only buy it where I need it otherwise stick with tradfri

mellow geode
#

Yeah, the non-RGB TRADFRI lights are mostly great. For Hue, the "RGB" lights also feature cold-white/warm-white LEDs. (I'm not sure how TRADFRI does it, but it seems like their RGB bulbs only expose the RGB part if they even have cold-white/warm-white LEDs.)

The topic of this channel is:

Zigbee :bee: - please remember to mention whether you're using zha (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha), zigbee2mqtt (https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io), or deCONZ (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/deconz). If you're using some hub, we probably can't help you though - try the #integrations-archived channel instead.

I would like to better ubderstand what happens when I connect a zigbee device to my ZHA integration using my Conbee II dongle.
Specifically where is the connection stored. Is there some state inside the dongle itself or is it all in the config files in my config folder. So if I would buy a new conbee stick and put it in the same USB port is everything still working or do I need to re-pair all devices. Or maybe the other way around If I clean install HA with ZHA or switch to deconz with the same dongke are all devices still connected to the dongle?

tropic depot
#

both... devices are paired to the stick but we store a bunch of metadata as well and both parts are needed for things to function correctly

#

so i don't know what the migration status is for conbee sticks... we have it working for sure w/ TI and SI (EZSP) sticks

mossy fern
#

Not sure I unserstand, so there is state in the dongle AND in the config? So if eighter one is replaced/cleared I would need to re-pair?

tropic depot
#

yes to first question and not necessarily for the 2nd. Some metadata in the integration can rebuild on its own when the device sends data in

#

if you want to switch sticks you definitely have to copy the content of the nvram on the old stick to the new stick

#

I just don't know if we have that for conbee sticks

#

@gentle flint @austere patio do either of you know if conbee has backup / restore support?

mossy fern
#

You mean export the ram from the stick, yea if that is pissible it would be nice to make a backuo of that

tropic depot
#

so we have utils for 2 chipsets for sure. just not sure about conbee

mossy fern
#

By 'we' you mean inside the ZHA integration?

tropic depot
#

the radio libs that power ZHA

#

only one thing can access the stick at once... so building this into ZHA may not be possible

mossy fern
#

I can see how that can be tricky

#

Youbwould at least have to disable normal operation temporary

#

I would sleep better at night knowing I can allways plug inba cold standby and have am up to date backup in case my dongke fails

#

Like after I pair a new device ZHA asks me if I want to make a new backup

tropic depot
#

yeah we may be able to build something into either zha startup or shut down to back this up to HA config dir

austere patio
#

Network frame counter is buggy with the Conbee firmware and I've not a received a response from DE about it but everything else works

#

Migration with the zigpy command line tool works with ZNP and the Conbee but I've not had a chance to change bellows to use the extended JSON backup format.

mossy fern
#

Ah so I couls do it manually

#

But as for understanding how it works. I assume from this the stick has all the addresses of the connected device in its internal memory and this needs to be there for it to work

austere patio
#

The Conbee specifically does not keep track of any children. It only stores network settings, like the channel, network key, pan ID, etc.

#

Normally coordinators don't need to keep track of devices that aren't a child

mossy fern
#

Ah so that's all in the config. If I would backup and restorrle the ZHA config I effectively change the connected devices

austere patio
#

Sort of. Devices are given an address when they join and ZHA keeps track of it, so the radio just says "device 0x1234 sent data \xAB\xCD". ZHA figures out what device has that ID and what that data means.

#

But changing the address within ZHA's internals won't affect the device, it'll just confuse ZHA

mossy fern
#

Ah so the device remembers its given adress intil I pair it again to maybe another network. If I would restore a totally different backup of the ZHA config it might not connect again if the device was re-paired with a new ID in the meantime

austere patio
#

I'll have to check if the Conbee radio library tries to find a device when its short address changes (since devices have a permanent, long IEEE address that never does) but I don't think it will handle device NWK changes well

#

So yeah, ZHA will likely not know what device is communicating with it if the ID changes (though it will fix that with TI and SiLabs radios)

#

So to answer your original question, the device info is spread across the zigbee.db database that stores read basic device model/manufacturer name and enumerated capabilities, ZHA's storage, and the stick itself

#

We'll hopefully have the info stored in the stick copied into the database in the near future but for now, the stick would need to be cloned to new hardware if you're switching it out

lilac wharf
#

does ZHA have the ability to hot swap CC2xxx sticks like z2m does?

austere patio
#

Network settings are randomly generated, written to the stick, and discarded

#

So if you swap sticks, the old settings were never stored anywhere (since there are no defaults, unlike Z2M's hard coded everything)

lilac wharf
#

well i mean, you can set up a network with z2m with custom settings (not defaults) and switch to a different CC2xxx coordinator, and it's like you never switched

mossy fern
austere patio
#

Yeah, that's in the works. I meant that Z2M reads its network settings from its config file and has defaults for everything, so 80% of users share a network key, EPID, etc.

lilac wharf
#

yeah, having a default panID seems like an odd choice. too late now though; i'm not re-pairing 70 devices just to have a different panID than the default πŸ˜‚

austere patio
#

It's not an issue unless a neighor also decides to use Z2M with the default settings. I tried walking around town but couldn't find a single Z2M network 😒

lilac wharf
#

yup

#

but if they're within range and try to provision a network with the same panID, z2m will likely error out on their end

austere patio
#

I think with the new backup/restore rewrite it'll still do it

#

Because that was a huge issue before and the "solution" was to increment the PAN ID

#

When the "existing network" was really your own routers

lilac wharf
#

i think that's been fixed

#

in the zstack firmware and z2m version

austere patio
#

Yeah, we reverse engineered Z-Stack's NVRAM to get that done

lilac wharf
#

of course, the july zstack firmware has proven to be a PITA

austere patio
#

How so?

lilac wharf
#

lots of network issues that didn't exist before upgrading the firmware

#

issues that appear to have gone away by using a different coordinator with the january firmware

austere patio
#

Anything specific?

lilac wharf
#

and did not go away by simply rolling back to a previous z2m version

#

unable to pair devices out of range of the coordinator was a big one

austere patio
#

Oh, that's interesting

lilac wharf
#

even after following the suggestion of unpairing all routers and then re-pairing them all

austere patio
#

I'll have to test it out. Maybe the permit broadcast is bugged.

vestal atlas
#

I used july since release till the new release without any issues, so not everyone has had issues with it. And I have 2 relatively big networks

lilac wharf
#

what coordinator?

vestal atlas
#

cc2652rb & cc2652p

lilac wharf
#

interesting

#

that firmware was a nightmare on my zzh

mellow geode
#

Btw., did anyone here ever have an issue where a ZHA group sometimes looses some of its members after a Home Assistant restart? (Only in DB/ZHA -- the device still responds to group requests just fine)
(Tracking this here: https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/57200 and I'm wondering if I'm really the only one experiencing this issue)

#

Since the group members are saved in the zigbee.db database, I'm wondering if the issue is similar to the one where devices lost their attributes when re-added (that's now fixed).

molten linden
#

I think I may be seeing this or at least it happened once where the members in group suddenly were't there.

austere patio
#

Looking at the db schema, a delete is cascaded if the device endpoint is deleted from the DB

#

Which can happen if _save_device is called and the device has no quirk

mellow geode
#

The devices that "are lost" are all IKEA lights (and sometimes Hue lights) and both of them do not have any quirks.

austere patio
#

Which can happen if initialization is scheduled on a device that is already initialized

mellow geode
#

Sometimes, I randomly get the following:

2021-11-26 20:43:53 INFO (MainThread) [zigpy_znp.zigbee.application] ZDO device announce: ZDO.EndDeviceAnnceInd.Callback(Src=0xD9BA, NWK=0xD9BA, IEEE=IEEE was here, Capabilities=<MACCapabilities.AllocateShortAddrDuringAssocNeeded|RXWhenIdle|MainsPowered|Router: 142>)

"expected 3, got 2" often happens (never seemed to cause any issues though).
Edit: added the "ZDO device announce line"

molten linden
#

my group has 5 ledvance bulbs - no quirk

austere patio
#

Only time that happens is when a device is a new join (NWK changes), or the device isn't initialized (probably not the case)

#

But yeah, this is likely caused by the same database limitation, where we can't use newer SQLite features (UPSERT) due to it being upgraded by the OS and not bundled with Python itself

jolly narwhal
#

Eeww sqlite

austere patio
#

Last I checked there were some Python SQLite drivers that built their own version, maybe we can use that if the provided SQLite version is too old

#

And fix the unintended deletion triggers causing this problem

mellow geode

Well, I've saved the HA log and zigbee.db before upgrading/restarting now. I'll see if any of the devices that rejoined in the last couple of days are lost after the upgrade/restart (when the beta comes out).
(I don't want to restart now because it's a little annoying to do it often, as ZHA starting takes multiple minutes and if group members are lost, the group entity disappears if there's only one device remaining in the group and I'd rather only deal with that once today lol)

#

In zigbee.db, group_members_v7 is the currently used place, right? (And not just group_members?)

Hi all, I'm trying to pair the ikea 5 button remote to my hass 2021.11.5. The device pairs successfully with the zha integration. I'm not getting any events from the button tho. Devtools > events > Listen to events doesnt show any thing when I listen on *

Was thinking of just using the ikea gateway as an integration with ha

#

But sucks that I have to use 2 zigbee networks

lofty junco
#

hey yo, short question πŸ™‚
I read the docs for emulated_hue (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/emulated_hue/) and it states this:
A physical Hue Bridge is required for Philips Hue lights to function - this virtual bridge will not replace a physical bridge. Instead, it allows Home Assistant to represent non-Philips Hue devices to Amazon Echo as Philips Hue devices, which Amazon Echo can control with built-in support.
I thought this emulation can work with my zigbee coordinator and without a real hue bridge? I might be misunderstanding the docs here. Is A physical Hue Bridge is required for Philips Hue lights to function meaning that my zigbee coordinator will also work because it will act as the "hue bridge"? So i don't need the "physical original hue bridge" when i have my zigbee coordinator running?

#

I mean... currently i have my hue bridge, but i obviously want to get rid of that. So my plan is to

  • reset a hue light
  • have this hue emulation run on my HA (non-supervised, docker)
  • have the hue light connect to my "virtual hue bridge" over my physical zigbee coordinator
  • have the hue light now function as usual with my amazon echo devices

Does that work as I intend?

sour shadow
#

Yes, emulated hue is about making HA appear in software to be a Hue hub

#

You can use any of the zigbee integrations to use a Hue device with HA

lofty junco
sour shadow
#

Correct

#

Better way... nope

#

Pick ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT, a good coordinator, and away you go

lofty junco
sour shadow
#

I haven't used the Hue app, no idea I'm afraid

lofty junco
# sour shadow I haven't used the Hue app, no idea I'm afraid

but... even without knowing the hue app: You can place the hue lights with ZHA and the hue-emulation into HA-groups etc and then use them with the HA alexa-integration, right? Wasn't really about that i would like the hue-bridge UI, it was more about where i mange the hue device-groups πŸ™‚

sour shadow
#

Why would I use Emulated Hue?

#

If you don't have a Hue Hub there are no Hue device groups

#

Trying to turn Home Assistant into a Hue Hub seems like a huge step backwards...

lofty junco
#

wait....... wait.... i might be confusing something here

#

so... i have like 20 hue lights with a hue bridge. I re-connected one of those lights already away from the hue-bridge and to the HA zigbee coordinator. So i can mange that light in ma HA.
I think my point is more, how can i control those lights in HA with my alexa echo devices, like I'm currently used to. so like "alexa, light 50%" etc... Maybe I confused things and don't even need the hue emulation at all

sour shadow
#

You don't

lofty junco
#

I saw some videos showing a very complicated way for setting up alexa, like creating your own AWS account, lambda-function etc... do i need to do that? or what is the purpose of those more complicated AWS-things?

sour shadow
lofty junco

hmm, alright, will ask there. I think i got confused about the hue emulation and since that isn'T specific to alexa, i figured i ask here.

#

ahh wait

Yes

#

Any time you can add (proper) encryption it's "more secure"

#

Of course, then the question becomes what are you securing against

umbral grove
#

Thanks. I don't have a clear mental image of network. I was reading this and it stated that you need to create a new user for MQTT https://owntracks.org/booklet/guide/broker/ but it's alsready working without that user.. ?

sour shadow
#

Well, that's talking about OwnTracks

#

You're not asking about OwnTracks

umbral grove
#

Sorry pasted wrong url

sour shadow
#

That add-on uses HA's users for auth

umbral grove
#

Check. Yeah I'm using both the MQTT and Z2M Addon

#

So in that case I wouldn't need a certificate? Is this explained somewhere?

sour shadow
#

You're confusing authentication and encryption

#

I repeat my question though... what are you securing against

umbral grove
#
  1. Other people that are not on my local network sending/reading messages to/from my zigbee devices. 2) Unauthorized people on my local network to send/read messages to/fom my zigbee devices
sour shadow
#
  1. Eh, what?
  2. You have bigger issues
umbral grove
#

haha πŸ˜„

#

So if I get this correctly: Zigbee device -- 1 --> Zigbee Hub -- 2 -- > Zigbee2MQTT -- 3 --> MQTT Broker -- 4-- > HA.

sour shadow
#

Yeah, though hub should read coordinator

umbral grove
#

Thanks

#

And the certificate is to ecrypt 3 right?

sour shadow
#

And 4

umbral grove
#

And when I run the add-on, would I still need to generate the cert? Or does the add-on take care of that?

sour shadow
#

Yes you would

#

It would document having built in certificate generation capabilities if it had them

umbral grove
#

Ok. Check. I'll try to generate one.

sour shadow
#

Remember, all the devices need to trust the cert. Self signed certs are likely to cause "fun"

umbral grove
#

But 'devices' would just be Zigbee2MQTT and HA right? Or would all zigbee devices also need to trust the cert? That sounds indeed like fun..

#

haha sorry just trying to wrap my head around this πŸ™ˆ

umbral grove
#

Also for authentication, why does the addon say in the docs: "Create a new user for MQTT via your Home Assistant's frontend Configuration -> Users (manage users) " while it also register a user "homeassistant" itself which seems to be used out of the box and works fine?

I've had this issue https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues/1091 open for a little over a month now and starting to consider getting a quirk written myself. I tried before but it didn't even load :/

at the very basic level I just need the two climate entites to respect the running state from the device πŸ˜‚

Hi. Can anyone explain to me how I could bind a phillips remote (RWL021) to a light bulb or switch directly?

I would love to be able to turn on and off a light bulb and a switch directly without HA as I always have problems with ZHA not beeing loaded yet when the automations are loaded on startup leading to the automations not working until I turn them on and off again. This is also a problem I would like to solve, but for now I would like do understand how I can bind devices directly to each other as there is nothing happening when I click bind in the UI. πŸ₯΄

I have two pairs of SA-003-Zigbee by eWeLink plugs (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08G46WWBB/ and https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08K45W4LR/ which are essentially the same; just different manufacturers). They are basically the same as the eWeLink Plug 10A UK (Zigbee Plug-UK) except mine are US https://zigbee.blakadder.com/eWeLink_Zigbee-Plug-UK.html. They work great. Using ZHA with Nortek HUSBZB-1 controller. My only problem is they report as a light and not a switch. I did find a post where someone mentioned the same but nothing came from the discussion (https://community.home-assistant.io/t/ewelink-sa-003-zigbee-switch-appair-as-light/139634). Is there anything I can do to get these devices defined as switches and not lights?

      type: 'cover'
    00:12:4b:00:1f:94:56:e8:
      type: 'switch'

you the IEEE address of the device and then the type you want it to be

(reminds me I have a powerstrip that is by eWeLink and have been meaning to do this for it, as it reports as 3 lights).

and the -1 is the end point if I remember correctly.

Good morning, can you tell me what is the difference between.

Unless you're planning on compiling your own firmware for the CC2652 that uses GPIO pins, practically there isn't a difference

There are three Zigbee options with Home Assistant (regardless of how you install it). These are:

deCONZ is relatively stable and mature with its own UI (and Discord server). It can run in an add-on, in a Docker container, or natively. Only the ConBee range of sticks and RaspBee GPIO boards are supported. Known working devices are documented, and how to request support for a new device is documented too (you can't add unsupported devices yourself).

zha is actively developed as part of Home Assistant Core, using the zigpy stack, the UI also being part of Home Assistant. The EmberZNet based sticks are recommended (though the HUSBZB-1 uses an older chipset), but there are other options. There is no list of supported devices, as any standards compliant device should work. Devices that require extra support are listed, and adding unsupported devices is documented.

Zigbee2MQTT is very actively developed and can run in an add-on, in a Docker container, and natively. As of 1.15 has a native UI, and it also uses MQTT for control and configuration. It supports mostly TI based sticks, with the recommended option being the [CC2652 based sticks](#zigbee-archived message). If you want to use an EmberZNet stick see this issue. The known working devices are well documented (which usually includes how to pair them so you don't have to find the manual), and adding unsupported devices is also documented.

There seems to be random issues with the zigbee network in my house. Conbee II on a mini computer, zigbee2mqtt with and without usb extension cord. (In the barn with much worse conditions it seems to work fine with a rpi 3b, without usb extension cord, zigbee2mqtt, conbee II) In the house I have especially some issues with 2+2 types of IKEA led drivers and (one my newest) phillips hue light strip. The units with issues is also the ones with best /closest location to the coordinator. I do not see any issues or warning mentioned on the z2m pages for these devices either. Any suggestions? https://paste.debian.net/1222196/

$5 for a CC2531, which is shit

#

$35 for a CC2652 based stick is reasonable

obsidian sandalBOT
#

Buy something CC2652 based. This list is a good one, both Tube and Electrolama have been proven to have excellent customer service. The current generation of EZSP sticks (see here for some) are also a good choice for ZHA.

Anything CC2530 or CC2531 based should be avoided - they're old, slow, and only suitable for a dozen or so devices. The Sonoff ZBbridge isn't advised since it uses WiFi (built in interference causing stability/reliability issues), and the HUSBZB-1 uses an older chipset so should be avoided.

Finally, the ConBee range are fine with deCONZ, but experience with ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT appears to be mixed.

Also, i'm sorry again for stupid questions, but i didn't get it - for zigbee sensors, how would it work? I mean will i be able to use any xiaomi/tuya sensors and will they just be found and recognized by HA or i should get a list of compatible sensors before i buy

Yesterday my ZigBee coordinator from tube with Ethernet did not respond anymore. When powering it off and back on it worked again in Z2M. I'm not sure what happened. Is it a known problem? Never had this before though. Any thoughts of what could cause this or do I have to keep logs from now o

#

I'm using 2 home assistant servers which both connect to it controlling around 110 devices. Could 2 Z2M add-ons at the same time cause a crash? Or should the cc2652p2 with esp be powerfully enough to send so much mqtt messages

I have a backup system that kicks in when the main system goes offline. And has been rock solid for a while now. When I update my main system the backup system kicks in and controlling all the important automations until it comes back online.

But both are connected to the same ZigBee coordinator

Your system goes offline?

You should fix that

But this ZigBee coordinator failing on me. Worries me the most. A backup system can't fix that

#

(but im no expert)

azure tinsel
#

No it's using mqtt. So if I send an mqtt message to the coordinator it shouldn't matter from which devices it's coming

#

But I guess I'm the only one doing this so just need some testing to see if this was a one time thing or if it keeps happening

#

It could also be a network error.

#

I will put a wifi smartplug between the socket and the coordinator to being able to switch it off and back on when it doesnt react

I'll add my 2 cents. I had my zigbe netork working, then I made a full backup. Then I messed around a little. Then I restored the previous backup and.... nothing works. I had to manually re-pair all devices

For what?

odd mango

single gateway with BLE and zigbee, preferably with PoE

sour shadow

You're clearly missing the point of Home Assistant

It is your gateway

#

Why would you want to go shoot yourself in the foot by locking yourself into a manufacturer's ecosystem?

odd mango
#

I am having issues with BLE range

sour shadow
#

Then you can solve that with ESPHome

odd mango
#

it could also house a zigbee chip.

#

would not need a cumbersome and expensive usb stick

sour shadow
#

Most of the existing Zigbee coordinators based off of the CC2652 are designed and built by hobbyists.

Nothing stopping you taking the same approach and designing and building your own one with BLE capabilities.

sour shadow
#

Well, it's not amber any more, but that's partially the goal

#

Of course, if you're having issues with BLE range that's not going to solve it

odd mango
#

I see it does not have BLE radio?!

jolly narwhal
#

Makes no sense to pack a lot of radio on the same space

#

This is why we have interference

odd mango

if it can be a nice looking box, I could hand it somewhere in the living room, close to all BLE devices

sour shadow
#

It's basically a Pi with an expansion board

jolly narwhal
#

No need, put one esp32 in the living room

odd mango
#

by the way. CC2652 supports both zigbee and BLE

#

were there any attempts to make both work at the same time?

Update to the latest HA beta and re-join the device. There was a bug (with the library that talks to the Conbee) that did not permit joins on every router on the network, so the device joined to the only parent that was allowing joins.

#

You can also probably unplug the coordinator for a bit and interact with the device or remove its battery (if it has one), that should also get it to pick another parent

twilit narwhal
austere patio
#

It's still on the network, its parent is just offline. The coordinator doesn't really behave all that different from any other router on the network after it has sent the network key to a newly joined device.

frigid comet

if it doesn't, i'll update to HA beta - one question... when you say re-join... you mean remove the switch and re-add?

austere patio
#

Yes

frigid comet
#

cheers

austere patio
#

You can also remove the device from HA and re-join it but instead of clicking the "add device" button, go to the router that you want it to join through and click the "add devices via this device" (or whatever it's called) button

frigid comet
#

i tried removing it from HA already and re-added it, didn't make any difference - i was wondering if there's a way to force the switch to speak to the lights

twilit narwhal
#

there are several ways

#

once it securely sits on your network that is

austere patio
#

The way you add it makes a difference. Normally the "add devices" button asks every router on your network to permit joins. There's a bug in the current stable (fixed in beta) that makes that request not work, so only your coordinator is really permitting joins. You either have to update to the beta and re-join it, or reset it and specifically join it through a close router with that "add devices via this device" button.

#

Or the Conbee doesn't allow you to permit joins through only a single router and it always permits joins, I haven't checked. In that case there's not a whole lot you can do other than unplug the Conbee and hope the device finds the new parent.

twilit narwhal
#

Yes you can join a router of your choice with a ConBee

#

Done it in ZHA back when I was using it, and doing it from time to time on Z2M when needed

#

when needed == when pairing Aqara devices...

austere patio
#

You can send the request but some coordinators (and firmwares) also require you to open joins through the coordinator as well, so a joining device can still pick the coordinator if it wants to. This was the case with older Z-Stack firmware builds, dunno if the Conbee behaves the same way.

twilit narwhal
#

that it does

#

when you permit join on a single router, the coordinator seems to also permit join

#

but if the switch is closer to a bulb, it should pick the best router available

Any TI CC2652 based stick should work great with ZHA and Z2M. (Only some Sonoff sticks based on those chips are reported to have issues)
Otherwise, Silabs based sticks are good for ZHA.
I don't use Z-Wave at all though.

Regarding your current stick:
it should still work just fine, if you didn't change anything. If you turn on debug logs and restart Home Assistant, you should see why the stick doesn't appear to work.
Firmware upgrade instructions can be found here: https://github.com/walthowd/husbzb-firmware
Note: I don't own/haven't flashed a HUSBZB-1 stick myself. It's probably easiest to just plug it in your personal machine rather than doing it through UNRAID/HassOS (which is also possible but more difficult).

also, I haven't forgotten about debugging that "failed to unpack" error on the LightLink cluster. I just didn't find the time yet

ahh, I was wondering why it wasn't mentioned in the PR description

my hue device works

Scratch that… nothing was changed there

finite hamlet

but that's basically a bridge

tropic depot
#

The model changes to fix the dialog necessitated that

#

So my original comment holds true

#

There should be 0 functional changes to the map view

mellow geode
#

oh, interesting

tropic depot
#

I changed the type of the field in the model object

#

So the changes to the visualization was just to account for the type change

mellow geode
#

well, it seems to have changed my map's colors.

tropic depot
#

that said I am legit color blind both red green and blue / purple spectrum so I struggle with that

#

If it did change and it’s correct then great πŸ˜ƒ

tropic depot

to include the exception content

mellow geode

yeah, sure. I guess I have time now

I’ll dm the details

guys, it is possible to create dynamic zigbee groups via a service call? I'm using node-red. I would like to pass a list of lights to create a dynamic group, set parameters for that group to control these lights, and then dismantle that group. Is that a thing?

#

oh, and I'm using the ZHA integration

#

I would assume this would be done via invoking the zha domain manually, but I don't know where to find a list of attributes that I could use

#

I mean, except those found in devtools/services, but the only relevant service I found there is zha.issue_zigbee_group_command, and this seems to be working only on established groups

#

I could also live with premade groups, if I could dymamically add or remove devices from them

#

i don't think that's a thing

not yet anyway

aw, too bad, It'd cut a lot of my zigbee traffic πŸ™‚

Good morning, to those central europeans.

#

I have this zigby light switch.. I add it as device and it appears as:
TS0601 by _TZE200_nkjintbl

#

No entities are shown

#

And also no zha events are generated when I toggle the switch...

#

What now?

Ok, looks like there are numerous requests for similar switches out there. Looks like it os using a tuya proprietary protocol... I guess I should avoid tuya products, as it's not the first time I have to bin something.

i was only joking with the πŸ—‘οΈ comment

I can't show you an example of a payload because its battery went kaput yesterday... waiting for a replacement later today.

I tried to listen to zha_event, but nothing happens when I click it

#

similar reports out there

twilit narwhal
#

yeah as I said try to listen to * events very briefly, when you click on the device, you might get several events, but hopefully you'll get one from the device

I'm pretty sure ZHA doesn't yet have this device in its quirks - they've recently added some Tuya switches to https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers - but this hasn't been yet pushed to homeassistant (I also have a Tuya wallswitch)

anyone have experience with** Sunricher Smart Zigbee-dimmer** . I want to make all my my light switches smart and it seems like an affordable product (the switches themselves are yellow from sun wear so need the plastic physical switch to be replaced at the same time)

#

or any other alternative for replacing the entire wall switch and make is smart at teh same time

Hi guys, i just bought 2 ikea bulbs (LED2002G5) and I can't pair it to ZHA correctly.
It first pairs, I can control it, then few seconds after pairing it unpairs !

#

Erf can't post screenshots here :( i wanted to post some of the log.

#

You can see the note 0x33d0 pairing, giving info, and the "left the network".
Never had this behaviour before, even with my other 3 years old ikea bulb.
https://zigbee.blakadder.com/Ikea_LED2002G5.html
It's supposed to be supported by tasmota and z2m but not zha. Is there a known issue ? Maybe with the "no handler for ZDO" seen in the log ?

Anyone know why battery statuses in Zigbee2MQTT don't work on some devices? For me it doesn't show on Ikea shutter button (but shows on the shutter itself), Lumi weather sensor or the samsung smartthings button.

Noob question: Using Hassos on VBox, I swapped out my cheapo zigbee adaptor(coordinator) for a Sonnoff USB3.0. I was using Zigbee2Mqtt with original zigbee adaptor so I uninstalled that addon and swapped the hardware. After swapping hardware and booting up I re-installed Zigbee2Mqtt and was shocked to see that my devices that were paired to the original adaptor were bound and working? How? I thought the end devices were paired to the coordinator and would need to be reset and re-paired? Don't get me wrong I'm happy but confused.

#

The problem is that these switches do not have a button to press... They enter in to pairing mode when connection is lost.

#

Somehow they are still seeing the connection as active, but appear as unavailable, and I can't re-pair them.

#

tried the power toggle, did not help. Any ideas?

#

tried to power down the HA and start another raspberry with different zigbee stick, and it paired normally

#

so it seems like my main HA somehow retains the connection, or the switches think there is a connection...

Is there anybody who knows the status of ZHA and ZigBee Green Power (ZGP) integration? #zha #zgp

Anyone know of any tricks to getting Philips Hue Motion Sensors working nicely with ZHA? I'm using CC2652 - zzh, but getting terrible delays on the occupancy sensor. It also flashes a red light sometimes when detecting motion - I remember reading somewhere that may indicate a communication issue?

rustic orchid

# rustic orchid Hmm strange thing is all my other zigbee devices are OK with no delay. I'm using...

I had really weird issues with that one, on ZHA my Ikea shortcut buttons wouldn't even connect, but my Aqara door sensors worked fine. On Zigbee2MQTT, my Aqara door sensors had massive delay, but the shortcut buttons worked. If that bug affects you, could well be the source of your issues. I also had smart plugs that would randomly turn themselves off, then not allow me to turn them back on again.

#

all worked perfectly as soon as I upgraded the kernel to a newer version

Hmm will check it out, thanks!
