Well, that's my impulse buy for today.
Must track world domination with sharply defined metrics.
Thanks for the 10% code

YAY! Metro M4 ordered
They are really RAMing that point home.
@wild urchin thank you very much!
This is my tribute to Mosfet.

What are you using for the random source?
Neopixels, and a Gemma.
it's lovely @lavish patrol
How it works: Magic.
I used Science.
sudo science rather than pseudo science
sudo apt-get kitty
Nice having the SWD connector on there, very excited
I often alias mmas to sudo.

Q: Are the Eagle files for the MetroM4 up on GitHub yet?
Twisted on M4?
Hi everyone.
Was the metro deigned to look like a metro train card
I finally got a pitft reliably working on my pigrrl zero build, but it is supper washed out. Any suggestions to fix that?
which one uses more Batteries... M4 or Raspberry Pi?
@fiery coyote I believe so.
There doesn't seem to be a way to "timeout" a connection to an Adafruit Bluefruit SPI LE Friend. I need a way to determine, from an Arduino, if the Bluefruit is present (i.e. physically connected to the Arduino) ... i.e. timeout after ? time if no response and a way to timeout a "waiting for connection" which never occurs.
yES!!!
Raspberry pi uses more power
Twisted in circuitpython on M4?
What is the QSPI used for on the MetroM4, the flash?
Or did I miss the answer?
How hard is it to detect audio going to a speaker? Would be simply detecting if there is audio or not. Could I use the inputs on a Pimoroni Automation Phat to detect the audio using a raspberry pi?
Or is that too hard to do?
There was a cool magnet in a previous AdaBox
Is Circuit Python based off of Python
Twisted Library.
Any plans to replace the Teensy on your metro testers with the 128-pin SAMD51 and its dual SD card controllers?
It predates asyncio and does it better.

It's the definitional Python async library.
Let's talk to Glyph and Amber at PyCon about Twisted.
Cool. PyGotham is great.
Py Party
I really want to ask Glyph about something he wrote years ago.
Awesome prize π
For The Higher Gear Group
@wild urchin We'll have to see what Glyph and Amber think. You should ask him π
He's super nice.
It was a screen scraper for a terminal interface.
What is your Name, What is your Quest, What is your Project
Mr. Certainly, Blue, World Domination...wait, no AHHHHHHHHHHH
Maybe hand-deliver the M4?
I had to write the replacement interface when the terminal scraper became non-viable!
And it was AWFUL.
Wow, wearables in Irish Step Dancing?

There are still 7 M4s in stock.
I see the Blinka Cake!
@spring heath that's fantastic.
@wild urchin probably better than you are giving credit to yourself.

We lost you just as you loaded Atom.
We hear you now!
That's a better approach compared to the Zoom recorder "pickup" method.
+1 box cutter blades are the best. Cheap, replaceable -- and by nature of this, you don't mind if you abuse them....nor is it prohibitive having several sitting around.
Seriously dulls them.
Fascinating
And there's nothing more dangerous than a dull knife.
in a pinch, you can use a diamond-coated sharpener steel to hone the blade for some extra life. I use this one for Xacto knives all the time: https://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-Ultra-Tek-Sharpening-Diamond-Coated-Lightweight/dp/B000WALUV6/
@haughty quiver A Gemma might make a pretty nice analog "dead air" alarm.
Thanks for the tip, @waxen thistle
Would prefer Xacto blades last a bit longer than they do
When using a honing steel, don't go overboard. Do 2-3 passes on each side, and it'll bring back the edge. If you sit there for a minute, you'll just be wasting steel.
Angle also matters, you'll get a feel for what works best with experience.
Yeah, that one takes practice to get it right
Cardboard is excellent for prototyping -- not as hazardous as sintra (PVC)/other materials, doesn't -need- a laser cutter or special cutting tools, it's cheap + disposable....plus you're recycling by reusing!
PVC + Laser cutter = Bad time
~or a passed out professor~
Great big sign that says, ironically, NOT ON AIR
I should use card board more often
Very nice build, @haughty quiver . Clean and easy to follow the wiring. Front panel layout is logical.
gotta remember to stay grounded

@haughty quiver Making that was truly a sound idea
Very SF.
and, it's controlled w MIDI messages!
so, you can run any MIDI controller into it, or do the microcontroller based thing like I did
nice, im already mentally thinking of ideas for the arp.
i would think, if it is micro controller based, it may be possible to use some MIDI input .

The bad things:
2. HD is more expensive than a normal camera that records at that resolution

uh were they talking about an existing article on feathers (if so where ?) or upcoming ?
That's a lot of feathers.
@muted mesa ok - think to add to the 006 guide would help too - i thought the link was wrong and it wasn't it was just me (operator error) cause mac said couldn't open cause wasn't an app from them... it's just the workaround

i need a 3D printer so bad. i have so many needs for one
@slow flint THEY ARE AWESOME
3d printing is legit life changing. You look at everything differently
@slow flint maybe you need rectifier for CPX to 5v - i had to use 2 boards for my recent project cause i didn't have that.
@river peak unlike my pocketbook, LAda gets most of my budget π
this is one long ad
My question for Ask-an-engineer: my gemma m0 (from Adabox007) loads the gemmaboot drive every time I plug it in (without pressing the reset button). It doesn't remember the Make Code file from the last time. I'm trying to do the mouse mover from the Adabox project
i may end up just getting raw chips and adding only what i need. but id rather use something already made like trinkets, if the code fits. i dev on metro, then go from trinket up.
I guess the question is: why doesn't it remember its code?
Just so you know, there is a q and a section at the end of the show for question
but i focus on devices using 5V
I didn't know if we load the Qs up now
But if you ask now someone from the community might be able to help, or go throw it in #help-with-projects
yeah, i could use a level shifter, have 3 ready to go
@delicate kernel I can go over to #help-with-projects. I believe I've seen this before.
@slow flint ItsyBitsy has a 5V dedicated pin.

transparent TFTs
@muted mesa The 1.8" LCD screens can actually be removed from their plastic backings and are transparent. But, with no backlight, they're hard to see
Still too dark.
yeah, that future isn't isn't that far off. didn't SparkX have a translucent OLED recently? or was it flexible?
More like "Opaque with slight colors visible if you look really hard"
@river peak you know that car tinting?
Mounted directly on glass, though, they look pretty amazing
@shell mason I am aware, but how would that be useful?
got one of those backlight panels, did not realize it was so big.
@river peak replace black backing with it

Feather M4 express... yes!
Yes!
@muted mesa looks awesome for visor projects
Will we be getting a Trinket pro M4??
Same here, @muted mesa , a glitch in the matrix?
@shell mason I have no idea what you're trying to do. LCDs don't have black backings. They typically have white backing, with LEDs to light it and make it visible.
@eager sapphire refresh got me back...
Q: Will itsy-bitsy be another board series like the Feather series?
@lean grail no more trinket pros that I know of. itsy bitsy instead
@river peak first you say those TFTs have black backing
Ah ok. So itsy bitsy will pretty much be the replacement?@rapid hornet
Did you write your website from scratch?
@lean grail yup
so that is why i was thinking that
@shell mason I never said that? Anyway, this isn't the place for this chat right now

Very cool, thanks @open girder π
@waxen thistle have you seen https://pixelcraft.cc/
Q: I just submitted an order and forgot to add something. Is it possible to amend an order?
@rapid hornet thank you! i rather liked the trinket pro but I'll have to give the itsy bitsy a shot!
I want to see a warable m4, any chance of that ?
No I haven't, why the suggestion @shell mason ? π
@lean grail its very nice!

Yes, great point

Thanks @haughty quiver , yet another fine show

Ha! Not needed for most stuff. A VST plug-in or hardware compressor/limiter could work, too.
Did I hear you say βget more gear!β I think I did :)
Over-the-ear mics are usually positioned incorrectly anyway -- they can get nasal if not pointed towards the jawline.
I heard that too.
Oh yeah. Get More Gear!
You need one of the super thin ones that nearly has to be taped to your head. Invisible!

Lucky you. Nothing like that here.
Think Countryman if budget allows. π
Used to do live theater sound. Our budget encouraged us to invent some crazy solutions.
That's the best kind of experience though.
Yeah. Nothing like panic to force creativity!
I keep forgetting I have such a wealth of knowledge to tap into when I'm ready to start doing video. I won't have to rely on web reviews.
I know I'll be thinking about cardboard and copper while out woodworking in the workshop today.
Thanks John!

Oh good @inner spade ! Add some copper to your woodworking
copper to wordwork to make stirling machine that would be cool

Hello @clear matrix !
Hi all!
Hi, @rapid hornet
Good evening all you wonderful people!

hi @lavish patrol
Good evening Mr Wonderful - I mean Mr Certainly.

yeah I was thinking about it
Like, maybe a python poster, or something.

maybe if I disappear....
Cool robot.
Double sided sticky tape works...for about six months around here

Those command strips dry out, here in colorado
Frame it and use 3M Velcro.

Wow Carlosβs presentation is awesome
very cool Carlos!!
Impressive Carlos!
Carlos, that's awesome!
They're so great, Carlos!
Kudos to Carlos.
@calm nebula , everybody. Has anyone tried hand milling a small circuit board? Using say, a Dremel rather than a CNC machine. I would imagine it would need to be a simple circuit but does anyone think it is doable?
nicely done Moheeb! pyOBD...i've done something similar with an RPi A+. want to go to CANBUS...but brick scare. π
Brick scare on a vehicle...thatβs a big scare
indeed
A very big brick
Was so tempted to do that - then found an OBD/Bluetooth adapter for like $10...
Still, could write some apps to read/display it over bt
I have think doing that for bikes too
yeah, BT can be nice. but most of the cheap OBD adapters are only ELM327 so they can't scale beyond standard OBD.
Piezos are all the buzz, I hear
More info on the green thumb here https://www.techniack.com/projects
@fallen siren I've milled very simple boards with a Dremel before. Not too hard to do, but you need a steady hand and patience.
Lost me on that one, @muted mesa - not all of the OBD protocol is tunneled through BT??
Hand-milling a PCB? I'll pass on that. Ooof.
That's an exercise in patience. I'm sure to fail.
@waxen thistle You're not a doctor?
They're auto-tuning guitars now π
@haughty quiver I can see doing that using the drillpress attachment.
@river peak a doctor? Maybe the Doctor. But I can neither conform nor deny that.
@haughty quiver I really need to try that now... no SMT stuff though π
Well, you don't have any patients, so you can't be a doctor.
and a machinist's vise ;)
@eager sapphire oh sorry. conjoined thoughts. OBD II is pretty minimal these days wrt the information that ECUs use; and ELM327 chips (especially clones) can rarely handle CANBUS. the BT comment was in its own context; it would be nice to not have a wired connection.
Time ot grab a bowl of ice cream before AAE starts up
Thanks for sharing everyone!!
Great projects, everyone!
thanks
here was a super simple one I made. Violating @proper trench 's "no blinking Xmas trees" rule: https://jedgarpark.wordpress.com/make-with-dremel/#tree
@haughty quiver Thank you, I imagine a dust mask would be a requirement if getting up close to it.
Great show tonight!
@muted mesa roger that, thanks for the details, too. Might explain why some of those little boxes are ineffective on some of the newer vehicles
My vehicle is kinda ancient - so good news, the OBD/BT adapter works fine
ODB II....I think it's about time car manufacturers improved upon that protocol. A "check engine" light could mean anything....a brake that's starting to wear down....or a catastrophic failure.
Maybe a "check engine" orange light....followed by a "stop engine" red light. With human readable outputs. It is 2018 after all.
This really gets my motor going, as you can tell!
lol
It's Ada'clock - time or Ask an Engineer.
@fallen siren yes, a dust mask and goggles are really important. This fiberglass is seriously bad for you.
@waxen thistle You mean it really grinds your gears.

@haughty quiver We have that same "no blinking lights" rule at home. (I call it shimmer instead...)
OBD does need to be upgraded. but, i'm glad they take their time in working on new ISO regs for it; can be too easy to sabotage. also need the "right to repair" laws to catch up...then the source will be available.
ooh, just in time. Watched the stream pop to life as I sat down
Until I had that little adapter, that nearly useless CHECK ENGINE light drove me nuts. Most of the time, it was just a loose gas cap (guessed, proved)
@muted mesa Agreed 100%
Watching Ask an Engineer & hacking on some C code for a project... It's a good night.
Vacuum cleaners of spheres?
The code is Dyson? Is Adafruit planning on harvesting the power of the sun?
Thanks for having me on! Here's some Roberto photos https://imgur.com/a/t0dTtI4
Not even tech related, but changing a headlight on my car almost needs a full front-end bumper disassembly. That's just...wrong.
Is Adafruit responsible for Tabby's Star?
@timid sparrow soooo great!
i like it
Thanks John π He's so fun to play with
@river peak Maybe they're trying to say they're getting into the robotic vacuum industry? Maybe because the current options all suck?
