I can't quite answer that question. I'd like to add to it that I think the lab is an example you could use as inspiration to create a narrative tale with some cards and puzzles.

I'm personally not sure what a source book would even look like.

I've heard the comparison of "d&d vs baldur's gate 3" with respect to the rest of RL's catalog

It's a role-playing game in the sense that you assume a role in a story, it's a co op puzzle game in a sense that you solve puzzles with your playgroup

It definitely has some story inside and I think the best way to play this is to have players actually roleplay as confused trapped people discovering all these strange things

Yeah I definitely love giving some flair to my players' actions instead of just going, you do Y on X, Z happens.

Also, not sure if this is relevant to untold, but I've been thinking about running a tabletop campaign for my players set in a Rusty Lake world
Do you think with our current limited world knowledge from games, is it possible for me to create some story for campaign that will align with current Rusty Lake lore? What ideas would you all have for that

Honestly I think you can go a long way, from just sort of plucking known characters that lived in the same world and sending them on an adventure or just having a party explore rusty lake locales.

Maybe The Lake as a weird pocket dimension suddenly appeared in your game world as a sort of side adventure, maybe the memory cubes hold great value, etc.

Yeah I've been thinking about letting players create their own characters and then make them explore rusty lake and getting involved maybe with some corrupted souls or other crazy stuff from the Lake

I think you can just pick events from the game and apply them to your characters lol

And I'd like to make my story align with the canon one from Rusty Lake, without replacing characters

I personally think 3 or 4 would probably be best, I fear that fewer may have players get stuck and more may end up having players feeling excluded.

is it advised to let players take alternative routes to some puzzles? I tried to gm for my mum and was only allowing the written solutions and coming up with excuses why other ways didn't work but i'm not sure if i should have let her get away with more and just skip the parts that would become irrelevant. In point and click games you can't do workarounds even if they are sometimes more logical than the solution so i was assuming that but i get how this could be different too
