@onyx path There is, yeah.
Great to hear that!😋 Playing in English right now. So many friends in chinese board game community are asking about chinese version
I can imagine!
I've just been told we're actually expecting a Chinese translation this friday (or maybe your saturday depending on timezones!)
It will take time @severe walrus
you can play with your family for sure @mystic cliff
also please keep general questions for #📝|rl-untold this isn't really a help channel, I will be cleaning up in a moment.
What can I do?
If you patiently wait, the download email will arrive soon enough
You can join the other waiting people in #📝|rl-untold
Okay I will wait
Can someone tell me from where i can download the file?
@cloud anvil Please check #🤔|how-to-play
This game was extremely entertaining from both perspectives for me as a GM and my players. However, because they are used to DND shenanigans they made some peculiar choices I did not really know how to address 😅
||For example how should I react if they try to unalive each other with a wench or go to sleep mid game or try to melt everything with acid?
They asked me if they can sacrifice themselves to the shadowy figure…||
Thank you for playing an early access version of Rusty Lake Untold’s first pen-and-paper adventure, The Lab.
We are very curious to hear about your experience with The Lab, give us all the details: perhaps you met a stranger here on Discord and had a blast playing together, you played the game with a long-distance friend, or you and your significant other spent a nice relaxing evening puzzling together. Which moments stood out while playing. How did you get your player party in the right mood? Did you team up with a group of strangers here on Discord? We would love to read it.
Sharing your feedback on The Lab also helps us improve The Lab and future Rusty Lake Untold adventures. Please leave your feedback in this channel or use the following google forms:

Sharing your feedback to us is invaluable, and we are also very curious to hear your group's experience with The Lab. Sharing your thoughts also enters you into a giveaway where from time to time we will pick some winners who will win some merch and promo codes for our premium titles.
hhahaha
|| I'm sorry to say it's up to you as a GM to resolve this, in whatever way you see fit. ||
Thank you so much for sharing this.
Hiii i need ppl to play The Lab with 🥹 🇮🇹
@subtle valve please read through the pinned post in #1264933398028488785
what are people using to host? I know that whiteboard was one of the recommended, I just want to consider other options that might allow me to be more atmospheric
i may have missed something about this earlier, but when i downloaded the cards i didn't get card 7 - unsure if this was a personal glitch or something else, but i wanted to bring awareness to it just in case!
it's been resolved, a new version of the cards is already available.
got it, thanks!
Guys I don't understand what to do
@unkempt jackal I've told you where to look, if you have more questions you can ask them in #📝|rl-untold.
Glad you enjoyed! if you have specifics to share be sure to let us know:)
Your friends would love DnD.
@oblique imp I'm deleting your messages because they're a bit too hostile for my liking, I do appreciate your feedback though.
Aye aye sir. Anyway the game is goated, thanks for creating it Dev team ❤️
There is a mispellin
||I played a game as a player today. As a gm, I led other friends to play it six times. This is a very logical game that is very rusty, but I am a little confused about the ending part. My grammar is not good. When I read the end of the gm manual, I will understand it as standing in the machine reading words and reading words outside the machine, resulting in a different ending, but it seems that the ending is the last paragraph, but one of the endings has more words. I want to know if there is a problem with my understanding, or whether the two of them may share the same ending, both of which are loops?||
Hey admin,
I have a question
Is rusty lake untold (the lab) will an application or we will play it in paper and photis as i understood
Tell me llease if there is a misunderstand
It is not a videogame.
please be sure to read through #🤔|how-to-play and the pinned post in #1264933398028488785 to learn more.
Ok thanks
hello! i signed up for early access, not sure what to do next. how do we get the stuff to play the game?
thanks!!
@valid rock just wait, it should end up in your inbox.
oh ok, thank u 🥰
you might have misunderstood the ending. All the text within quotation marks is to be read aloud by the GM to the players. The GM is not one of the players and does not participate in the game. From the players' perspective, they step into the machine, and the hatch automatically closes. After a flash of white light, they see a transparent cube at their feet. Picking it up, they discover it is a room, and then they recognize themselves in the room. As soon as they say, "It's time to wake up now," the game ends, and the players will fall into a loop. hope I didn't get it wrong.😆 ||
A minute ago I finished playing The Lab as an GM. We had a lot of fun and Im sure I'll buy the next games. ||The only thing that went "wrong"(not along the guide) was players tearing the poster before the final part, before even having a chance of getting the phone clue about looking behind the lake. In my opinion, the last phone sequence is a great idea, so I was a little disappointed, when my players just decided to skip it and not even go to the phone. You can do something like make it a picture or something like that and then, near the phone in the last sequence leave a item that will enable players to find the metal box with floppy disc then and only then. That's only my personal feelings, but besides that, you guys did a fantastic job.|| Also, I know that Rusty Lake: Untold will be made as a pdf games, but having an option to make our own stories like this would be fantastic. Something allowing us to easly generate rooms and puzzles, even by dragging things onto screen, arranging things and then printing finished cards. Or even having a built in place, where you can share your stories with others. Either way, great job.
||I think the hint is in the room description: wall paper replaces white tiles, so players may want to check the walls||
||Im sure it's not that, their only motivation was because it looked nice and my player wanted it. He took the rug with him too and was walking with it everywhere||
That is freaking amazing.
||He cleared basically the whole vent system, because the team decided that if they push the rug in front of them in case, if the corrupted soul attacks them. Also, he got mad that he couldn't do anything with cameras and threw a cooler into the kitchen one. So yea, this game was a fun one||
I'm hoping my party is like that.
I know at least one person will try and break things. Maybe two.
If you are going to be DMing the game, sometimes just roll with the players ideas, purely for fun yours and theirs. ||If they want to destroy the shelf thats not needed anywhere else and use the planks for something, why not?||
||At the place where the screwdriver was found, my players didn't think to check the drawer. I considered it for a moment and decided not to tell them about the secret passage map on the drawer. After they opened the vent, I described each intersection they encountered in the maze, and they successfully reconstructed the entire map on their own. I found this approach quite interesting as well. After all, I believe that a map carved on the back of a drawer shouldn't be easily discovered under normal circumstances.||
I just finished running this as a GM and here's my thoughts ||The first . . . hour or so went well, up until they forgot to check the vent in the electric room. Then they hyperfocused on the locked drawer in the office (which i forgot to say was locked until the hand was made, that could be a little clearer, like a headnote that says "locked until the hand is made" would work). In addition, they found the lockbox behind the painting before the phone sequence, but i didn't remember it was there, so I said nothing was behind it, and i was able to come up with a reason they didn't see it. Overall, very solid module, and I hope to see the next one sometime!||
I hope to include icons of the items obtainable in the game in the guide, not just puzzle hints. This way, players can more clearly understand and remember the items they currently possess
I do agree, but thats also what the notes are for so I can understand why the devs didnt added the items as printables + Some players can be creative and create their own items + Some common items can reappear in other campaigns, so printin duplicates can be kinda uhh not good ig
||just finished GMing and im really excited for more of these. i think the puzzles were good, easy enough to be solvable but hard enough to have a "Ah!" moment when they found out the answer (it was super satisfying to see the players flipping the diagram upside down and fitting it to the map to understand where to go for exemple). i really liked the guide book, it was detailed enough so that anyone can pick it up and play it without much issue, but at the same time it gives space to add a little bit of flavor here and there. my only issues with the module can be explained by the fact that it's early acess content, it felt a lot like playing cube escabe: the lake, very straightfoward but with a little twist, but i dont think that's necessarily bad (especially since this is the first one). i do expect more from the next ones tho, it would be really cool to have maybe an alternate ending (like a secret fuse position that revealed an extra thing in the lab) and more of the bigger puzzles. im looking foward to see what they'll do next||
By biggest disappointment in The Lab campaign is that ||there is no fish or shrimp 😭😭😭😭😭😭||
Sounds like a secret to add yourself.
Ok I will remove all items from the game and instead the goal is to find as many fishes as possible
The first to get 1972 fishes, wins
Thats the Fish Ending and it will be canon in the lore
can't access the dropbox link to download the files
I'm reading through the module right now because I'm to run this module next week with a fresh set of players unfamiliar with TTRPGS. I was wondering the estimation on how long would it take to complete this game. Could anybody tell me how long did it take their group to finish? Thank you very much! The module seems fun ||even with the lack of shrimps.||
oop never mind it takes 60-90 minutes I missed it
Well, I have another question (please don't let this be another case of missing portions of the text), what are the trigger warnings I should give to my players before starting the game? English is not my first language but we're using english so I'm having a bit of trouble.
If you've read through the guide I recommend setting up a list yourself
Also thank you for the extensive feedback everyone, it really is appreciated.
@cloud prairie please mind your spoilers.
Anyway reading above || some people have indeed allowed their players to skip that, I'd personally just pretend the poster doesn't budge until relevant ||
It's up to you, is what I'm saying here hahhaa
All right, got it! Thank you for the input!
@shadow talon unzip it and you'll find the guide.
Like this
Yeah now you can read the pdf.
Thanks, I thought it was a game
it is not a videogame
When I saw the ||music playlist for the game, I noticed the track "Day Five" appeared twice.|| Is that on purpose or is it a mistake?
||about The hand in the game, all my player asked if it's a man's or woman's hand.||
Whatever you want it to be.
||Lore-wise, it's possible that it's Rose Vanderboom's hand because this seems to be her lab we're in. But that's just my theory.||
||I thought it was Albert's hand but considerin that the digital opens the door, a worker from the Lab def makes more sense.. Idk about Rose, cuz.. why would she use her own flesh..? I know, it is Rusty Lake, but I cant see it being the truth.. Anyways, the Hand appears again!||
||Rose is a worker at the lab. And it does seem to be her lab. Either way, it's now Rusty Lake canon that coffee was the secret to cloning this whole time||
||Imagine Rose randomly decidin to use coffee to make her father come to life 😭😭||
beautiful game, i give it a 10/10
going to wash my hands with soap
bye, thanks for playing with me!
Thank you!
Amazing game and experience! ||Needs to have items page, or inventory, something like that. || Going to wash hands now. Thanks everyone for playing with me!

also @celest radish good pfp. Love the cat
Loved this game (especially with Damy's soundboard and the soundtrack for extra ambience). It was fun to work together with people i've never met before even if some of them were a bit too obsessed with washing their hands :p
The only thing I feel was really missing were inventory cards as we had to draw the items on the side of the whiteboard to try remember what we had. I seem to recall seeing some in a teaser so maybe they just aren't in the early access version. I also think the puzzles could be more difficult as we solved them very easily. 10/10 recommend visiting Damy's Lab next time it's open.
Thank you all for doing Science with me!!
im sorry, i want my hands clean!!!
||but if i didnt search trough the trash can we wouldn’t have the hot coffee!!||
Another thing, I asked early on if we need to reuse some items or can discard them as that's often described in the introduction of the boxed escape room type games I play (different difficulties will say if you can discard items after use or not). So I think it should be mentioned at the start ||that some cards/items may be reused so not to discard them||
Just downloaded the gm guide to use part of the cover for a stream thumbnail, is it supposed to not come with the card files and just the pdf or is that an oops?
card files is a different download, the cards are included tho
Ok, only saw the pdf I n the zip and wasn't sure if that was intentional or not
Wait are we allowed to stream it? Curious abt smth
I don't see why not!
Thank you! I wasn’t sure since it’s the 1.0 version and i wasn’t sure where that lies on what’s allowed or not
Just finish the third session. Again, it's fun. And I'm starting to improvising and add some interesting details and atmosphere to the game.
Now I wonder if there is more to explore about the plot and background.
||BTW, the TXT doc misses 2 periods, is it intentional or simply missing?||
Might be errors, feel free to share them here!
||I noticed it too. On the cards it says “no options” and “memory”, but on the office page in the guide, it says “no option.” and “memory.”. It’s just the cards that have that S and no full stops, making me think it’s an error.||
I've already noted this one in particular down, but thanks!
I noticed someone mentioned inventory cards and I think thats a good idea. I also like that in your group you used a soundboard, I think that should be made downloadable too. Overall I enjoyed the game, I think any other that is made could potentially be a bit harder and potentially in the future to make longer games for people who are really dedicated - however there could be problems there for doing that online//maybe not??
Side Note: this popped into my head and ive been thinking it for some time but eventually maybe after every game has been made or if anyone has better ideas for this to create a book or something which has the rusty lake history and lore in it
Hi! Is it ok If give my feedback in spanish?
@shell hawk can you please explain what an inventory card is? Cause I have an idea but im not so fluent in english, so maybe my idea is the same
I think it'd be fun if we can perform actions using inventory cards
Like ||using the hand for fingerprint scan|| etc
It's basically like the gamecards that already exist but instead of || a room || you'd see || maybe matches ||
Feel free to give your feedback in Spanish, thanks all!
Hello, When the Chinese version release? It's already 7.26
Please do keep in mind it's only 8 am in the Netherlands! Hahaha
It may end up being later in the day Which would mean Saturday for you, sorry for timezones.
Thanks!
||One problem is that as a GM, how to alert the players to the hidden compartment behind the poster? It's hard to describe it in words to get the players to notice that the tiles are replaced with wallpaper.||
it's described in the guide: || "knock knock" the players have to knock on the lake poster to discover the wall is thin and hollow and can easily be smashed, if you'd like to make it easier to describe you can just explain that behind the poster is hole in the wall with the items. ||
Thanks!
@tulip stump gracias! Esa era mi idea también. Voy a hacer las mías a mano para ir entregando a medida que van encontrando los artículos, luego les cuento que tal me va!
@upbeat niche Please mind your spoilers!
As for the solution: || IT's the hidden cypher and the 5 words ||
|| find the 5 words in the hidden cypher and look for the capital letters, look for where those letters would be in the number field and you have your code ||
You can, just use spoiler tags.
Ok got it, btw I'm preparing this game for my friend Tonight
That's great! I hope you'll have fun:)
I feel like you guys maybe can prepare the game card that represents the tools that can be found
Thank you for your feedback:)
After seeing the feedback of a player carrying the ||rug|| through the entire game, I would find really funny if I made item cards for every single object. Cuz if they want to pick something, and it doesnt have a item card, they would know that this thing isnt important for the game. But if every object has a card, they cant know
need a translate version defiantly lol
but still funny! i like the last part
everybody can enjoy this game i swear
thx for rusty lake team making this amazing game
Thank you for playing, and the feedback!
i'm reading the chn ver GM guide and find some typesetting problem
the quotes break the word and make it a bit confusing on reading
and the links to different pages in pdf doesn't work
Okay, thanks for the feedback!
I just finished filling the form
I really enjoyed it. thank you all for making untold.
Thank you for filling in the form:)
How long it's takes to get the game after sign up ?
.
Honestly I can't answer that the timeframe seems to differ, just hang tight!
Can I help?
Yeah please
Thanks I will
Can I game with my friend?
Yes, you can.
How 😦
@cyan spear just to check; you're playing the past within I assume?
Yup
Course.
To play the game follow these steps:
- Communicate with your partner, be that over call, messages, or in real life.
- Open up the game
- Pick a different time each, one player picks future the other player picks past
- IF you're playing the complete paid version of the game pick the same insect either BEE or BUTTERFLY
If you need more help please use #tpw-help
Thank you 😩
Hello. Will it be possible to upload music for the game to YouTube? In Russia, unfortunately Spotify not available😔
I actually made a YouTube playlist of the songs they had in that Spotify album, because I don't have a Spotify account
awesome, could you share a link or something?
as im going through the manual & cards, i think the one thing im noticing is that the ||fuse box card has the fuses in it. i think it might be harder for players to visualize where they have the fuses if the card contains two immutable fuses already||
we played it just a few minutes ago and here is the feedback of the group: 1 Perfect amount of content for the estimated playtime, 2 you never feel lost and always have something to do, 3 Puzzles are a little too simple, 4 surprising how much creative ways to "break" the game are actually planned, 5 the pictures are very cool, 6 its really easy to GM it, especially if you are a Veteran Cthulhu GM
so TLDR: Really good and fun, but the puzzles are a bit too simple
awesome! thank you:)
this is actually immensely helpful, thank you
thats amazing, especially for us online only GMs
@late ice could you please check your DMs
I'm planning on playing the Lab with friends and it's already a pleasure to prepare 🙂 I'm the kind of GM who prepares everything two days before because we didn't planed on date before, and it's refreshing to have something fully and well prepared! I hope my friends will appreciate the adventure!
That's awesome! be sure to let us know how it went once you play:)
It's time for my feedback.
First at all, it was funny to guide as Game Master and for my players, who don't know about Rusty Lake Universe so much, it was also a good game. I used Roll20 to make this game easier to play online and it works. The only things I like to admit is:
- I hope there will be some randomize puzzles to make playing with different groups more interesting
- One thing that is out of logic for me in my perspective. (spoilers) ||In Kitchen section I think in trash can should be fresh coffee with coffee filter, not only used coffee filter. In Poland we don't have coffee machine like that and for me used coffee filter means that it cannot be used again.||
In short, great idea.
Thank you for your feedback!
Absolutely amazing game, PLEEEASE make more of it. So much more fun when with fellow lab ra- i mean rusty lake addi- fans.
We've got one more in the works! thanks for the feedback:)
Any scoop you can give?
Only that it'll be a premium product
Id give myself to the lake for spoilers
?
meaning you'll have to pay for it.
I kinda knew before i asked but still, any teasers at all? Paid teasers?
No that's all you're getting.
Fair enough, its good enough to know yall will continue making this piece of art
I really hope its not dollar-only 🥺
I don't know anything about distribution at present
Felt
I was about to ask how y'all were planning to handle paid distribution, well darn
Just sharing my experience playing Untold, because we actually ended up enjoying the experience. Forgive the long message. I'm just happy today. Played the game 2 players. I basically dragged two people along from an anime/manga server. One doesn't know Rusty Lake, the other didn't realize he why everything felt familiar till he saw the Rusty Lake poster. (So yeah accidentally found a fan)
Anyways, this was how our playing experience was:
||XD They kept arguing that the paperclip was not a realistic solution. Basically one player got the first key again from the door and kept using the BACK OF THE KEY to unscrew vents and also unlock the electrical room. I decided to be flexible and accepted the solution. I didn't tell them how the game suggested to use the paperclip or ID card.
Another thing to note was that they had an argument about the Bunsen burner XD. They said they needed the tripod thingy or else they're going to get burnt and that they ain't ready for that.
As GM, I actually messed up the order of a few puzzles. The thing was that when we played, I DIDN'T READ THE BOOK IN ADVANCE. I basically just scanned it. I didn't even know how the story would end. Basically, I thought the office was unlocked at the start... So when they got the hand, I was so confused what to do with it. THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WANTED TO DO WITH IT THOUGH! Basically, they put the hand on the keyboard to make it type. With some quick thinking, I said: "You put the hand on the keyboard and it starts typing out a hint: P-H-O-N-E." After that, they managed to get the password from the person in the phone.
Did they still keep the hand? Yes XD. Something I didn't imagine them doing was trying to make the hand go through the small vent for them. They wanted to follow the set of glowing eyes. With some creativity, I decided the hand crawled into the darkness then was thrown back out with all its fingers eaten.||
(Is this the correct channel? Not sure-)
Hello
I have a problem with The game: I registered to get an early access, but when I download The files I cannot open them, it's available on mobiles?
Yes but you'll need an app to open the zip files
It is, thanks for sharing!
I don't have anyone to play with
If this is about our new pen and paper please read the pinned post in #1264933398028488785
Hi Im preparing the game(and translating in Korean also), but I have some question about it:
||1. At page 14, ritten "A small screen glowing bright red displays a blinking message.", what message is blinking? or it just blinking?
2. At The End, page 16, ritten "The last thing players have to do is say the words: “It’s time to wake up.”", how can players guess they have to say it?||
|| 1. : the message present on the screen it should say what it is
||2. ||It's present through the game, it's written on the wall, they hear it when they wake up, etc. ||
1-1.|| Then before PLs make the fuses on the slot ACF, there's any message on it?||
|| yes you can imagine it may be in standby mode on emergency power ||
ok thanks!!!
I can help with that
Epic when people mess around
I love your players 😭 I'm so excited to see how my friends will managed!
Lmao I think if you show them chaos, they'll be chaos? XD
And who doesn't like chaos 😈

Well, earlier, even before the announcement of RLU, a photo was shown with cards, among which were Mr. Crow and what appears to be the basement of the Vanderboom mansion (there were also busts of Aldous and William there). Maybe the next game will take place there.
I sign up on the lab (rustylakeuntold.com) and it doesn't work when I sign up. Anyone help?
It will, if you confirm your subscription youll eventually get another email
Please remain patient
@tulip stump I have waited about 10 minutes and it didn't send anything.
Again, please remain patient.
do you have the pic?
Well, these were very very early versions, so expect them to change
As they already did
Will send more here later but I GM’d for my friends and they decided that this was how Weezer was made canonically
@tulip stump thank you 💖💖💖
I downloaded rar, I could open The cards, but it says The master guide archive is broke, how do I open it?
@finite blade please mind your spoilers.
The ||letters on the cypher are a word search||
I'm sorry, I didn't know we had to hide the spoilers! Won't do it again
Got it, thanks!
it's okay, we're just strict on PnP spoilers because once read they basically ruin the game
(if you want to play)
i finished the game with people on the discord server it was very fun but for players that dont know english (which was not the case when i played) make different languages like french, german, italian, spanish, and etc...
i know some people are working on it but i wish i could contributate for french
thank you for your feedback and offer! but as previously stated we've got it covered:)
Me too!:)
||my players found out how to make coffe without power by using the bunsen burner to just....heat up the water and the coffee. Send help.||
||Update: They have decided to destroy the coffee maker||
alr we just finished session, ||Everything went well, besides the fact that they realized you don't need a coffee maker to make coffee (Then try to get wires out the coffee maker to make their own fuse), i just...happened for forget to mention the slight spooky parts of lost souls. So, my b on that regard. They all said they enjoyed it, besides two of them being very spooked. The only issues they really had were trying to figure out the fuse, since they forgot vents existed||
Just finished the session. I also experienced some issues where the players ||tried to workaround some of the puzzles, but "requires specialized equipment" seemed to work ok.|| My only real issue was at ||the end where you put in the fuses for A,C,F it makes it sound like the power goes out everywhere but the machine, but the players are expected to use the computer at this point.|| So that was a bit confusing. All in all they enjoyed it, and I had fun DM'ing. Would love to see more of this, and harder versions if possible.
My solution was to say that the ||bunsen burner|| was electrical for some reason 💀
Hi! Just finish playing as a GM whth 3 friends at home. I'll give my feedback inspanish: Estuvo muy divertido!
.
Thank you all for the feedback! We appreciate it:)
We finished the session yesterday.
Since it was an online session, we did it over text instead of voice chat. It took about 4 hours.
They had never played the Rusty Lake series before, so they were freshly surprised by the different elements in the game.
|| What was impressive was that they did not fix the water supply. They melted ice with a burner, obtained water, and made coffee with it. ||
|| They destroyed the office wall before reinserting the fuse. Therefore, they got the floppy disks first. As a result, they were able to run the machine without seeing the Corrupted Soul on camera or making a phone call. ||
As a GM, it was a very enjoyable experience to watch them confused.
I am looking forward to the new one.
Thank you for the feedback!
I've played as a player character so far and the experience was great ✨✨ I absolutely love how we can take multiple approaches to solve a problem ||(I may have broken a few things in the process)|| here unlike the the point and click games that we know and love. Maybe we'll get to see this kind of game play in the video games someday as well. Getting to see different perspectives of my fellow players was quite refreshing too.
Despite the completely different gameplay, it maintained the Rusty Lake vibe the whole time. And gawd the playlist ✨️✨️✨️
I'll look forward to the next one 🙌
Hi, I just finished the session with my BF(1v1) with Chinese version and took around 50 mins.
First of all, I have watched English and Chinese version. Since you guys translated the puzzle to Chinese and still related to The Lab was amazing.
||Then, I just realized that if GM didn’t mention the poster in the office can be broke with tool, the player would be so hard to figure it out.||
||And they can go into the machine directly if they got the floppy disks before without seeing a soul on camera and pick up the phone. It made me feel like it’s not necessary to do it and become something like bonus scene.||
Overall, it’s an amazing experience for me. It’s first time to be a GM and I love it and enjoy it. I look forward to seeing more games from rusty lake!
Thanks for the feedback everyone!
idk if this counts as feedback but trying to gm as someone with no experience at this kind of game (besides being a player first) it was hard with the way the notes are written because each thing starts off reading like a description and then suddenly it's the solution as well so you have to read ahead and stop yourself accidentally spoiling it by reading the whole bit. I liked when things had flavour text to read out but i was a little lost without them thinking of cool things to say. Also it would be good to have some excuses for why things people might try don't work. I guess all of that is the job of a gm but it's not natural to everyone so a little more optional flavour text to help would be nice
also i agree that ||having to knock on the wall behind the poster to discover it's hollow and then break it with the wrench was very challenging for someone to come up with without hints, also the map was super frustrating for mine because they kept messing up their directions and having to restart because they forget to turn the map each time they made a turn and didn't understand for some time that the reason it wasn't working as expected is because they weren't starting from where they thought they were starting from||
Thanks for the feedback,
I think I definitely agree that at times ive confused the solution of a puzzle with info the party is privy too, lol
I just finished both English and Chinese version of the game, there are some translation related issue, should i submit them here?
||'It's time to wake up' is translated to 快醒醒! in page 6 but 是时候醒来了 in all other pages, storywise this should be the same sentence||
||Mind soul memory sight door is also translated into 2 different phase in the start puzzle and end of the story, both should be the same otherwise it would be too abrupt.||
||In the office part on the back of the binder in the the bottom drawer should be 侧面 instead of 背面||
Feel like game is not translated by players.
Thanks for sharing, I'll pass this along
I just wanted to share that I played with my 5-year-old son, and he managed (with a little help, of course) to reach the end. ||To get out of the room, I let him choose any of the numbers, and with that, he was able to open the door. After that, he completed all the steps on his own, doing the experiment, getting the hand, opening the office, and everything up to the end! He was very focused and a bit scared haha but not too much because I skipped all the parts where the corrupted soul appears. He was afraid to enter the machine, but he called his father, and they entered together. In the end, he saw himself in the cube playing in a park, and after a bright light, he appeared in the park, and that was the end.|| He wanted to play again! It would be great if there were games like this for kids.
||Ok, the only thing that I found as a player that could potentially cause problems is the fact that after you get the cube you have to say wake up, which if you haven't played the cube escape: paradox you might not understand the time loop thing and as such our DM decided to drop a hint for us to figure it out because otherwise there would be little to none logical connection between what we know when we just woke up and what you're supposed to do once you get locked in the machine with the cube||
Also, this is more of a personal note:
|| I don't know if Mechatroid brought it up to you guys yet, but in a typical D&D player fashion I made it my PERSONAL MISSION to try and destroy every single camera I could see in my sight. And to not only not be succesfull in destroying any of them, but also having one be destroyed by a corrupted soul is a scar on my pride I cannot bear. I swear, if there isn't a way to destroy a camera (even as a funny haha "all in le head" easter egg) I'm refunding the next chapter 🤣||
Hello! I'm Thailand people and love Rusty Lake games so much. My thai friend and I try to translate The lab guide book to Thai language and recently finished it. May I publish It with myself or sent to you to upload in your game website?
Hi, thank you for that effort! Before doing anything could you send an email with the translations explaining what you did to info@rustylake.com ?
Thank you! I will send email to you as soon as possible.
hello i would like to help translating to french if there is a need to
We don't currently need any translators, thank you for your offer though!
I have some of the Portuguese translations i did for my section ready, if you guys want, i could translate it officially (and more refined)
erm idk if im dumb but after i signed up for free access , i dont see any download button, how do i downlaod it?
@tulip stump just finish playing the game with 2 separate groups of friends as the GM, I found the guide really easy follow once I read it through before we played, one of the group had a 12 and a 7 year old in it and they were able to solve a couple puzzles towards the end when they got a hang of the game, honestly 11/10, such a fun game, can’t wait for the rest of the chapters to come out and I hope RL makes more games like this
You'll get a follow up email
ohh so its not out yet?
As mentioned previously; we're currently not looking for translators. If that changes we may always reach out to you but don't count on it
It is, but it may take a while.
ohh alr tysm
Oh, it was mentioned? I didn't see it, I'm sorry
Thanks for the feedback!
No worries, it's easy to miss things
Just finished a game with 4 ppl on a video call as a GM. Since it is online, I made a whiteboard (obsidian canvas) to show the pictures and also a tool bar, like what players have in a real game, and it works out fine! Though GM should remind the players to take screen shots when they feel they need to. Maybe a collaborative whiteboard where everyone could zoom onto the place they want is a good idea.
The GM book is great. Even though I am doing Chinese translation on the fly, it worked out smoothly. ||The only suggestion is about the location of the hidden small box (containing the floppy disk) behind the poster. Even though players are not supposed to find it before they got to the final phase, but I think this item should still go under the The office section. There is a back link near the description of the metal key that goes back to The office but you could not find anything about the box under that page. I think it would be great to have a small section mentioning the wall is empty and the box is inside under The office page.||
Another thought is about puzzles in English. All my players are Chinese speakers, and one of them really struggle with English. Puzzles like the cipher, requires some sensitivity to English words (It ended up being the puzzle that takes the longest time LOL). I don't know if it is really an issue, but the puzzle may appear more difficult for some ppl than expected.
Again, running the game is a lot of fun, and I hope to see similar games soon!!!
Thank you for the extensive feedback!
This is so real. My players covered every camera they see with bed sheets...|| So when they look into the camera feed, I was like "they are all black, because you guys covered them all " AHHH||
Clearly, a very strategically accurate move considering the circumstances 🤣
I think I'd personally have the camera very nonchalantly shake the sheet off
I played the game the day it was released and I thought it was brilliant. I've noticed with some games that are table top they lose the feeling of the original game. This on the other hand was brilliant. It was amazing at keeping that rusty lake feel to the games as well as making them multilayer which is brilliant. I cannot wait for the next game to be released. I've already recommended it to so many people already
Thank you! Glad you liked it so muxh
You can always tie the betsheets in the back using knots
|| the camera suddenly starts running really hot, melting the bedsheet -||
The game was amazing, loved it
Thanks!
Me and my partner sat and played it with them being the Gm and me playing. We put the rusty lake soundtrack on YouTube to add to the experience as well. All in all it took us around 60 mins to complete. Definitely keeping my eye out for the next addition to my rusty lake games
I ran the lab a few days ago online with two people - one who knew rusty lake and one who didn't - and it went super well. We only had two sticking points: ||Determining the fuse code in the hidden room|| and ||Finding the hidden lock box behind the wall||. For the first puzzle, it might be nice to ||add some scuff marks on the wall to show the picture needs to be turned more||. For the second puzzle I'm not too sure how to make it easier, my players just kept missing the hints. Overall it was a great time and will definitely be playing the next one.
in the case of 2) || it may just be up to you as a GM to sort of guide them in the right way || either way, thank you for your feedback!
Just played and honestly ||Loved the puzzles but the end gave me The Witness vibes, but good ones because memory fuckery is already cannon to the wider story||
Okay, so I've read through the guide at least 5 times. I've been super excited cause it's my first time as a GM, but I also make miniatures, so I'm creating an immersive system with moving parts.
I also had some discussions with my dad. He's not really a tabletop player, so he's gonna help me create some of the video clips to match the story, and he'll be recording the gameplay, so I can share the experience with y'all in a month or so, once we've finished the preparation.
It feels a little overboard, but also kinda perfect. My daughter will be the only player who is familiar with Rusty Lake, so this is basically an introduction for the rest of the family.
Lots of planning. Lots of minis. And of course, loads of fun.
Let me know if y'all want to see the setup as it progresses, or if I should wait to show off the gameplay.
Hi! I'm a spanish native speaker and english teacher and translator, I would love to help translating the game to spanish, as I would be doing that anyways in order to play with my non-english speaking friends. Who should I talk to?
Holaa como estas?? No hablo muy bien ingles y no entiendo donde encontrar el juego, me podrias mandar el link??
We appreciate the offer but currently aren't looking for new translators, if that changes we may contact you but don't count on it.

That sounds fascinating, the best of luck
Okay. So I've just run this awesome module with my friends. ||We had a blast playing it. My players love the slightly tense atmosphere and the music really helps. There's a lot of wiggle room in terms of how to solve certain problems so it's fun to see the creative ways they come up with solutions. I've only had to improvise on the rusty lake poster part. Overall the puzzles weren't all that difficult but it was still entertaining. For some reason, the group was really focused on the hand, so I had made the hand do weird things (like teleport to places, disappearing, interacting with the players, etc) and they seem to love it. Overall it was a great experience and I can't wait for similar content to be released some time in the future.||
Thank you for the feedback!
Sounds amazing! Would love to see it 💙
The anticipated feedback has arrived (as in I was quite busy and also pondered how to put this in words)
Rusty Lake comes to the pen n paper genre [PART 1]
The Manual
I liked the V1 of the GM guide a lot. You can tell a lot of work, care and passion went into it. With very minor punctuation mishaps, it gives a broad picture on how the game is going to be run, diving into details only where it is needed. I appreciate the introduction, which I find useful for new and old seasoned GMs alike. My only suggestion is to have the rooms and their detailed interactions on one page only per room (as in, to not be in need to return to previous pages while perusing the manual in case of a heavier adventure). Also, a short introduction to the Rusty Lake universe, with broad bullet points about some of the events might prove to be a good introduction for people familiar or not with the IP's universe.
The adventure
I am a general lover of Sci-Fi and Surreal Horror, and this scratches those itches quite good. The introduction is impactful, as it throws the players into the dark (||quite literally||), with many questions and desires for answers. ||The Bedroom|| is a good tutorial like room, helping mechanics and interactions examples to set the stage for the adventure. The beginning is fast paced and it gives players quite a lot of content to tackle. Exploration and puzzle solving galore, I have one single problem with this section - ||most of the puzzles are self contained in the rooms they are found in for the most part, which wouldn't be a problem until you hit the end, where players are expected to be roaming around in previously looked at rooms||.
The puzzle difficulty
I found to be pretty well rounded, with ||pattern matching, logic inferences, attention grabbers||. I probably got lucky with a group of talented puzzle solvers, but they decimated most of them in a matter of minutes at a time. [CONTINUE ON PART 2]
Rusty Lake comes to the pen n paper genre [PART2]
[CONTINUING FROM PART 1] This ends abruptly at the very end however, where the self hinting nature of the puzzles end suddenly. ||I employed some railroady techniques to guide players back towards the Office, to watch the Corrupted Soul talk on the phone||, and afterwards, at the very last part, ||remind of the repeated words they encountered and haven't used in any previous puzzle||. This felt a little counterintuitive, and I think could be fixed in some ways which I will disclose below.
The Artwork and Music
Nothing to critique, not even through tough love here. I haven't got to use the atmospheric music yet, but I would like to congratulate the artists and composers. Solid work.
My recommendations
- ||Indicate clearly in the manual that the first fuse configuration restores power through most of the facility, with a power indicator on the fuse box. This way, people expect and understand why the second fully powers or at least diverts most of the power towards the Chamber in The Secret Room. As it stands now, players may think they fully restored power after solving the fuse box for the first time||;
- ||Cameras are those invincible entities that follow the players, coldly, and undestroyable. I inserted the fact that the one in The Secret Room is fully destroyed, as The Corrupted Soul approached it and fully deactivated it. It adds to the menacing and scary aspects of one of the community's favorite entities||;
- ||For players like mine that may know immediately meta knowledge and try educated guesses on passcodes, have some easter eggs. For example, the cold box accepting a cipher of 4 letters, one player wanted to test ROSE as a code. I was tempted to have the box shuffle the letters into the code NOTE, as a hint, rewarded for the trial of some meta knowledge. If that would give it away, changing to NOPE is fine and quite funny too||;
[CONTINUE ON PART 3]
Rusty Lake comes to the pen n paper genre [PART3]
[CONTINUING FROM PART 3]
- ||Have the disembodied voice at the beginning resemble a choir of multiple voices if there are multiple players, one single voice if there is only one||;
Closing thoughts
I love the premise, the manual, the puzzles, the lore implications. I like that people both familiar or not with the TTRPG genre can enjoy a gateway entry into one of my favorite hobbies. I find that the atmosphere and general mood are familiar for those in the know of the universe, and enticing for those discovering Rusty Lake now. I will be expecting the next adventure, and I cannot wait to see where this goes.
I would like to thank the Rusty Lake Team for their work and passion for their products and this community. And lastly but not least, I would like to thank my fellow players that played, came up with great and quite fast solutions to puzzles, roleplayed and had a nice time together - thank you @shut turtle , @solemn rose , @mystic cliff , @gusty sky . Thank you all, and on to even bigger adventures.
Thanks!
This is a good way to play the game
I had a great time with my friends. Here are my feelings and suggestions:
1: The explanation ability of different gm is very limited to the player's ability, and the player's thinking is very big. You can add "keywords" in the manual
2: Some key props should give us pictures.
3: When playing, there are some small difficulties at the maze level
4: Our rust lake has always been reflected by symbols and stories, and the story aspect of this game needs to be strengthened.
5: When I was playing, only two of my four friends were solving puzzles. People in other places didn't know what to do. We didn't seem to have any linkage
6: Can props interact with each other to help us find eggs
Thank you for the feedback!
We should do something different for each player. Is that okay?
Not sure what you mean with that, sorry!
I mean, everyone solves different puzzles at the same time
That seems difficult to pull off unless you'd had the party something physical to solve. Thanks for the idea though!
fine
I am a teacher and I have played offline with my students as a game to train logical reasoning and teamwork. They all loved the game, including me.
O wow! glad to hear it
Pero me registré y todavia no me llega nada 😦
Hello!
We have played the Japanese version of this game.
We had a very good time!
I am reporting a spelling error I found in the Japanese version of the game guide.

Thank you!
Thank you!
Hello! Ive played half of the game with my friend and I noticed some stuff during our session:
||As I mentioned earlier, there is nothing mentioning the beaker or other test tubes to put the acid, water and coffee into.
In the trash can it says there are used coffee grounds but if doesn’t say if we can pick them or not. Also I thought maybe there was coffee grounds inside the machine but it doesn’t say that either. I’ve never made coffee with a coffee machine but I think we would need coffee grounds to make the coffee.
And this is just an idea:
When we were in the electrical room my friend suggested to pour the acid to the vent to melt it. I couldn’t make sure if it would also melt the test tubes so I said we couldn’t do that but that also sounds like a cool solution.||
Maybe I am not the best game master but the game is going fun and we are gonna play the other half tomorrow
Hey Gizem! Thanks for the feedback, please do be careful about spoilers do, mind spoiler tagging your message? Just open and close it with ||
Oh sorry about that!
As for your feedback; I agree with the || beaker point || and have shared that with the rest of the team too.
|| The grounds are indeed interactble, everything can be interacted with or used at your discretion as game master.
If something isn't described IE; coffee grounds in the Coffee machine, assume it is absent.||
|| The acid trick is up to your discretion as a game master too, id personally not allow it but if you want your players to have early access to the ventilation system go for it ||
This may be difficult but you're free to decide a lot of things, you're the boss, you're the god, you create the rules! Haha
Yeah might try that!
Thanks for the answers
No worries, we really appreciate the feedback!
||Playing the game again as a gm I noticed some other things... apart from the fact its notoriously difficult flipping through pages, going back and forth and getting lost in text. I thought that the note halfs should have a "2c" where it is just one whole note (potentially). Also, I thought it would be cool to have items hidden in the maze of vents in the dead end paths (makes it a bit harder) . Another thing that is a little hard is the camera feed on the computer. It says you recognize the bedroom, kitchen and chemical lab but there is a fourth room that is unfamiliar. Glowing eyes looking at you through the screen.. You would usually go to any other room apart from the room you are in and in the final phase it says "When the players return to the office and look at the security feed they see a dark figure in the kitchen, maybe it makes sense but it seems a little confusing to me, maybe you are supposed to check them at different times. In my group when seeing the textfile and camera feed on the computer they only checked the textfile and it wasnt until they were in the hidden room that they wanted to check the camera feed so I read from that page and not the final phase page. I had to make things up on the spot and it was hard for me. However, everyone seemed to really enjoy the game and it was completed. The Guide itself was a bit complicated towards the end to use and finding the text I am supposed to say became a bit of a challenge but I think in no time at all id be able to say my own descriptions of items and alternative introductions once ive played a few times and understand and remember how the game plays out.||
Thank you!
Played the game with 3 friends, one played the franchise before the others didnt.
||The storytelling was easy to follow, i felt incentivized to add my own flavor to stuff. The puzzles are really easy but interactive enough that time flew by.
The people who didnt know the franchise didnt really get confused by anything, one of them wanted more interactions with the corrupted soul. The guy who played the franchise before noticed the small details but wanted a bit more connection to the story of rusty lake.
They also kept the human hand for the entirety of the story, named him albert, and threw him through the vents because they were scared of the corrupt soul.
I hope future entires allow for more of this uniqueness that comes with different groups. Fantastic experience!||
thank you!:)
Is the lab going to get future updates or are they working on making more untold experiences?
we are working on at least one more Untold adventure
this felt like a great introduction. so great that im craving more ahaha
great to hear
have a good one damy
Played last night online with 2 friends (one knew rusty lake, one did not). We played on Roll20 with the digital card pack and recommended playlist:
||
-My group adopted a playstyle where if an item was interactable I would tell them it appeared in their inventory. If they used the item for the last time it would disappear from their inventory, but items like the wrench which could be used multiple times would remain. In this way it functioned like the video games and gave the players feedback on what they were supposed to interact with. I appreciate that this takes some of the creativity of the tabletop setting out of things but it was an effective method to give my players hints on how to proceed
-I created an audio drop with backwards audio for when the players use the phone. My player who was familiar with Rusty Lake said this was one of the highlights of the game and even commented that he was hoping such a sound effect would play when they discovered the phone. This could be a cool handout to include in the future and would definitely make me interested in paying more. (Fun fact: It is very hard to record who are you spoken backwards in the rusty lake style and I only reached a close approximation! For some reason the backwards number code was much easier to create and was incredibly effective)
-I like the black and white aesthetic and it's probably intentional but I think a color version could be interesting to see for the rooms at least. The drawings are already incredibly detailed and it would be great to see them brought to life in future adventures
-Echo the point above about my group being unclear on what container to put all the liquids in. My group put acid in the coffee mug and then went to the "experiment" dumped the acid in the beaker, and reused the cup for other liquids. This was neat because it's similar to moments in the video game.
||
|| -From a GM perspective I think the layout is overall good. There is some flipping back and forth between pages but the print is large and easy to locate. I also like how clearly everything that is interactable is labled in the GM guide. It is essential that the GM reads the whole guide through at least once for a comprehensive understanding, but in my opinion this is a necessary practice for running any tabletop game and it is specifically called out in the manual which is great.
-One point of confusion during gming - I think it would be useful to add a note in the office about the events that happen here later. When players find the key for the lockbox in the office or have to go back to view the security feed it is confusing to navigate to the office page and not see anything mentioned. I would just add a small blurb mentioning there are events that will occur here after finding the hidden room and they are explained on pg X
-The puzzle design was overall great - there was no confusion from my players on how they were supposed to proceed and they always understood when they had enough information to solve a puzzle. I think overall the difficulty could be stepped up a little bit. In the tabletop setting the GM is always there to prompt players or provide hints so the difficulty can be a bit higher than in the average rusty lake game.
-Great idea to put to use an already available and awesome rusty lake score - at some points during the scenario the score synced up very well with events happening in the game to the point that one of my players thought a moment was scripted to time up with a puzzle being solved.
-It was a very satisfying moment for my players when a hand was magically created on the floor and they knew exactly what to do with it. Definitely a great moment in the scenario.
||
Overall a great experience. I am looking forward to seeing what else you can do in this system (hopefully with more rusty lake characters making an appearance!)
Thank you for sharing!

Small gm feedback regarding the ||cypher in the bedroom: i feel like it doesn't look too obvious that some words are present in the grid, so it took me a while to understand how to use the cypher at all (and i am confident that my players will most likely not find out on their own either). I think either having one word readable from left to right could help in making it clear that words can be found in it, or maybe simply having a visible grid would help in making players associate the cypher with those "find the words" games in magazines.
In any case, i feel like the gm guide was lacking a clear explanation||
Thank you!
||Actually nevermind, they immediately picked up that there were words in it and figured out the puzzle immediately; the printed (bigger) version of the cypher makes it way more obvious than in the gm guide, so nevermind my comment about that 😅||
@jagged ice same happened to me. I had to ask here how to solve the cypher puzzle, but my players figured it out immediatly!
Sorry, vu do you know how players can enter the vent in the bedroom?
||after obtaining the screwdriver in the office||
Yes to open it but to reach it did they juste need to climb or is there a "tool"
That's up to a GMs discretion.
|| Ive seen players climb on top of eachother, players bringing in equipment from around the lab, players turnign the beds into a ladder ||
Tank's that's what I needed!
Where can I find the game download? I finally convinced my friends to play but realized I hadn't downloaded it when it came out
Be sure to sign up on the website and confirm that sign up
after some time you'll get an email with the link
OHH okay I've been logged out of my email recently, that explains it. Thank you damy!!!
Finally played the lab with a group of three other friends today. They actually finished it in 45 minutes which I was pretty impressed.
|| As far as feedback goes they mentioned that it would be nice to potentially have multiple endings and potentially more objects in a room to interact with since it's only one screen. Then again that might also come down to me as GM so. ||
We had a fun time though so thanks for this experience, it was my first time doing this and being a GM.
Thanks for sharing!
Ofc you guys did a great job for a first tabletop adventure
Heyy, we've just played with the game. We really liked it, it was fun to play with. 💕
|| I was the GM and 'cause of some issue I could not read the finalé before the start. And for me it was confusing that they find the metal box in the office, but in the office section you can't find anything about it. To make the guiding easier for the last-minutes-GM — like me ^^ — I would write the final phase in brackets. So it would look something like this:
"The players can use this key to open the metal box hidden in the wall the office. (the final phase)" ||
Thanks again the game it was really cool.
Finally had the chance to play The Lab as a GM with my mom and sister playing. For context, my sister has been playing escape games since ~2008 and my mom and I have been playing Rusty Lake since 2019. It took them about 45 minutes to complete and they never got genuinely stuck. Here are my minor suggestions:
||1) We played in person so I printed out the cards. The most efficient way for me to do this was to put them together on an 11” x 8” Photoshop page and print them like that, so I didn’t waste paper. This was easy for me but for some it might be easier to include a “printer-friendly” version that can be printed without any modification.
2) I fully read the GM once a few days before playing and then skimmed it again right before. There were a few times that it took me a bit to figure out the solution to a puzzle while reading the GM guide. Like, parts were there, but a little too spread out due to how it was written. Having some sort of puzzle solution page at the end of the GM guide that shows a quick, step-by-step, guide to each puzzle, with as little unrelated detail as possible, would be helpful.
3) This is less of a suggestion for this game and more of a hope for future ones. I’d love to lean into the RPG side a bit more. Maybe multiple endings or NPCs that can be spoken to would be fun||
Regardless, as a fan of both Rusty Lake and TTRPGs, this was great and I can’t wait for whatever’s next
Thank you!
Hi! I've already made a session with some of my besties and it was an amazing game. I was the DM and we use Google jamboard for it.
As someone who really likes to give people a little scare always I'll suggest adding some videos to play on a phone, tablet or stream them for the players to understand better, as some might not be familiar with the rusty lake games and imagery, the kind of scenes they might be looking at. ||As an example the hand in the floor in the lab or the feeds in the cameras.||
I think it would give a nice touch on the experience and a good resource as a GM I'll add here our board, just BCS it was funny my players draw themselves to keep a record of the inventory haha. Hope we get more TTRPG from rusty lake soon! They're asking for more ✨🖤
(Sorry if something doesn't make sense, English is not my first language haha 🖤✨)
Omg the board is so epic! Thank you, glad you enjoyed your run
I played it recently (I was GM) with my friends while camping at a celtic festival (Montelago in Italy) so the vibes were immaculate. We had lots of fun and the game was a very pleasant level of difficulty and timespan. Attached is a photo of our tabletop towards the end (there was some wind so we had to pin everything down, also, obv: SPOILER). I was planning on having only one room on the table at a time, but my players actually ripped everything off the wall and out of furniture, etc. to be able to carry any ciphers, symbols, etc. to another room as they moved around. They made some fun choices I didn't expect ||(try to make coffee already on the bunsen burner before the electricity was on)|| and got through the puzzles not immediatly but also without strenuous time or need for hints. LOVED IT SUCH A GREAT GROUP PUZZLE
Woah, can indeed see how location added a lot to the overall atmosphere during the play session! Thank you for sharing, it’s all beautiful!
I played it as the GM with 4 friends of mine last weekend. We were talking a lot this year about how I should try being the GM someday and the lab was the final push I needed to finally do it. We usually like to goof around so having that in mind I told them they could come up with something to roleplay as, except they wouldn't have their memories exactly, and one of them decided his character would be named Roberto Hongo (from Captain Tsubasa), another would be named Chris Pratt... Exactly this dude, out of the 4 players, was the one to ||find the wrench and fix the sink|| he even let out a LET'S A GO! when he did it. It was so funny lmao it took them a little too long to finish some puzzles because they were enjoying so much just being silly around the lab, I think they managed to come around with different ways to solve at least 4 puzzles or so and they actually finished after like 2h30 playing. We all enjoyed it a lot, it made me realize how much I want to be the GM again, it was an amazing experience finally doing it. I love escape rooms a lot but I'm always the one playing them, and the ideas I had during these years I just never used because I didn't find a way to make it possible. Now I do, pen & paper! I never thought about merging ttrpg and escape room, but me and my friends loved it! 10/10 experience. I guess that's all I had to say! Thanks for reading to whoever does 🙂
Hahaha it sounds like you and your friends enjoyed it so much! Just reading it made me smile. Thank you for sharing!
Ok! Here’s a terribly abridged summary of my table playing The Lab
The cast:
- Me, Vigil: they/he/she, the GM. Read the manual like 5 times an hour before the session started. Perpetually unaware of surroundings
- Friend 1 (T): he/him, our braincell like 75% of the time
- Friend 2 (M): they/them, our normal GM when we play DnD.
- Friend 3 (P): they/them, chaos gremlin. I allowed them to have decorative hats. Changing each time they were focused on. British.
- Girlfriend (J): she/her, anxious darling. British 2
Enjoy the Chaos:
Me: you open your eyes to a dull, white room. What would you like to do?
P: I go back to sleep
Me: … I don’t think you can? The fleeting thoughts you have keep you awake
P: I pretend to be asleep to not deal with the bullshit
M: I feel that
Me: oh by the way, congrats you all get top surgery in this game (no one in this group is cis)
T: hell yeah
J: thank you :)
P: sick
M: I am now the cooler M. It’s just me with Sunglasses and Top Surgery
J: can I read what’s on the floor?
Me: it’s dark
T: is there a light switch?
Me: yes
T: I turn on the light switch
Me: … nothing. Power seems to be out
T: goddamnit
Me: in the drawer you find…
J: oh?
Me: a flashlight
J: oh (saddened by lack of matches in this room)
T: okay, so there’s definitely a hand in there
P: meat coffee?
T: no
M: MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT
after finding the coffee filters
J: … trash coffee?
M: TRASH COFFEE TRASH COFFEE-
T: YEAHHHHHHHH
M: you gotta be the sussy imposter T, you gotta vent
T, who was the one who saw The Shadow in the vents: no thank you I’m good. I don’t wanna die
P: I’m gonna jumpscare T
T: I throw J at them
J: … I’m very much taller than you
T: I mildly shove J towards P
M: I haven’t gone fishing and my mental health is in shambles!
(Murmurs of agreement in the call)
M, after getting in the machine with the others: holy shit are we weezer?
P: … Rose Vanderboom?
M: …
T: …
All the Americans in call: to the tune of Bill Nye: ROSE V THE SCIENCE B
This was far overdue, I just kept forgetting. But have fun laughing at me and my friends shenanigans
I'll have to sit down to read through this, but thank you for sharing!
No problem! I loved running it!
@tulip stump How do I go about collaborating?
@wind geyser please answer me in #📝|rl-untold.
Also! Alt solution: ||when faced with the wall that you use the wrench on to break it, P decided to use their head. Literally. They head smashed the wall||
Wow that is taking bruteforcing the solution to a whole new level
Thank you for the summary, glad to see you all had fun !
I absolutely loved the game, huge thanks to @tulip stump for GMing us! I'm really happy that I've got to experience solving the puzzle myself before trying to GM for my friends (bc I definitely want to share the story with them)!
Well this was the first time experiencing such an escape room game, the difficulty was just on point!
I really enjoyed it our GM @tulip stump did a great job guiding us and all the group were doing really great!! And i would LOVE to try being a GM! Thank you rusty lake for this great experience ❤❤
Thank you so much to my fellow test subjects and our GM! I appreciated the personality Damy brought to the game and I already have plans to GM this in the future
my only notes are just personal experience: clarify no outside help is needed/allowed. An in-person GM would be able to stop this as it came up but
||Before my fellow players found the text file clue, I had pulled up a word unscrambler website and was about to type in the letters on the binders lol. I figured there would be another clue in game but that was my first idea and knowing my future players, they love sneaky workarounds like that||
Also, put on the website or suggest when people ask about the download link to check all email folders. I received my email with the link immediately after confirming but I didn’t notice it for a while because it was in the promotions folder (this may be specific to gmail users)
Thank you for the feedback y'all:)
Hi! We just finished our IRLsession with my two friends so here is some feedback! I was mastering.
First: we loved it! They really had fun even though they didn't know the universe (I might even say that they appreciated it more because they didn't). For me, knowing the universe really helped because I could add some stuff ||(such as having the voice in the phone saying "The past is not dead. It's not even past")||. I really recommend everyone who's interesting to try it, I think it's easy to play even when you have never played a TTRPG before 🙂
We also played with the prints of the objects someone posted there some times ago ||(the flashlight, the key, ...)||, it was a nice little touch.
Some funny things that happened so that it can inspire other players:
||- they were so wary of the cameras, they used the coat and piece of papers to obstruct them. I found it clever (though I hide to find a justification as to why they could see the figure holding the phone in the last chapter - otherwise they would have missed a cue. Now that I think about it it might have been intersting to have them not having the clue)
- they had basically no difficulties with the puzzles except when, holding the cube, they had to say "Now, it's time to wake up". They forgot that it was said to them and so they spend some time in this buzzing machine
- they loved the phone and spend some times trying to speak with the voice. I decided to play it and have it said things that weren't scripted. Such as "The past is dead", "It's not even past". I thought about saying it was "Mr. Crow" or "a friend" when they asked who it was, and "Laura" when they wondered who was "her" in Rose's note ; but I decided not to because it might be spoilery for next TTRPG or wrong.
- they didn't press the red button in the hidden room for a while so we had to go several times in the vent system||
Tldr: It was really fun, everyone loved it!
Just a note on the atmosphere: I love the idea of having a playlist but I preferred to create my own with other RL's soundtracks. They really were into the mood and for the premium version, you should continue your effort in building it! With description, threats and creepy stuff. It works well 😄
I just finished a play session with a game master where I was the only player and there's just one critique I have that came to my mind
||there are certain puzzles that I was surprised with their solutions, since this was a pre written game I assumed that there wouldn't be alot leeway with how to solve puzzles, for example when I tried to check in the vents, the GM told me that they were too high, when I asked if I could use chairs, they said yes, but I didn't know I was also able to take the chairs with me to other rooms or even climb stuff like the shelves or the beds to view the vents, since they looked further away from the vents if you get what I'm trying to say, another puzzle I stumbles upon was the electrical room lock, I think there could've been a better indicator about how to open it or maybe a comment about how it's easy to bypass, since I wouldn't need to focus on trying to find a key for it, one last thing is the indication of how long could I use an object for, for example I didn't expect it when the GM pointed out that I still had the wrench with me to break the wall behind the poster, maybe this is a poor oversight on my part, but I do feel that there should be certain indicators to which items I can still use many times, but other than that I really loved the game and I'm looking forward to play it again as the game master with my friends!||
Thank you for the feedback you both!
|| going through the vents is wonderful, as for the ITs time to wake up I personally try to just put a lot of emphasis on those words when they pop up the times through the adventure ||
|| well yeah it is a roleplaying adventure so there's a relatively big amount of freedom, do you think its too much freedom? ||
Sooooo, it's been about a week, and I've finally gotten all the architecture sketches and measurements together. I replayed a large portion of the Rusty Lake games to screen capture pocket pieces for printing. And finally took to cutting some materials.
Now, I have the frames for the bedroom completed. I think the thing I'm most proud of is this working door.
Loving how the door looks! Thanks for the update, you did great, can't wait to see more!
I thought it would be a great idea in future tabletop games to have multiple different endings
Well ||based on D&D playthroughs I watched on the internet the answer I suppose would be no, The lab was not as free as these types of games. Still I came with the mindset that I'm playing a rusty lake game, that's (if I remember correctly) how the game was teased at first, a pen and paper puzzle game and the tabletop element was teased later. The point I'm trying to make is that I as a rusty lake player never encountered a rusty lake puzzle where I needed to move chairs across the room, or climb the beds, just to reach a high spot, when my GM told me that it was too high, I went to loo for a ladder or step ladder to add to my inventory because that's how normally these puzzles would be solved in rusty lake games meanwhile the puzzle with binders I didn't need the GM to clue me in that I can move them because that's something I remember from rusty lake games, putting books into certain order for example||
Am I making sense?
||I guess my point is that since this game was advertised as a prewritten rusty lake puzzle, I treated it like a conventional rusty lake puzzle and didn't know I had liberty to move objects I normally wouldn't in other rusty lake games, maybe that can be added as quick note/tip in the other upcoming games||
Can the feedback also be on the story or just the gameplay?
Story feedback is fine
I suppose I can see your points
Thanks
||I didn't like the ending, it felt anti climactic, it just feels like a rehash of paradox, but what sets paradox apart is that 1)paradox was the first game ro ever incorporate the loop ending so the shock factor was there and 2)paradox had a second chapter, a movie and most importantly secrets that led to two secret endings that broke the loop||
||So unless rusty lake untold the lab will have a continuation or an update that I'm unaware of at the moment, I guess it stands to say that I would've preferred a different ending, escaping the lab and finding freedom would've been a better ending in my eyes||
Thank you for the feedback:)
So good. It's time for feedback.
Gameplay: ||I liked the atmosphere. The ability to interact with any objects as you want is very new to RL and even unusual after computer games. The cards themselves are interesting, but according to the teasers, I got the impression that the items will also have cards. And when you approach something, there will also be a card of what you see and not just a description. In general, this is not a minus, but the problem of teasers. The riddles are quite funny. Yes, there are repetitions from the games, but also many unique ones. The very fact that you can turn the card around and mark anything on it is very cool. The mystery of ventilation and orientation in it according to the scheme is one such example. I hope for a large number of such riddles. The gameplay takes me 2 hours and that's enough for me for a board adventure. Especially for the first one from RL.||
Plot: ||the problem is that there is no one. For lore, we got interesting descriptions, Easter eggs and a "collective" cube. I liked what they told us. For a tabletop adventure about the "untold", this is enough. The only thing I would like is a plot too. So that we are not random people and so that our adventures are also woven into the overall plot (maybe not so much, but still). I understand this is difficult to implement, but this is my opinion and my request.||
Design: ||I liked it, but I would like more cards. as for me, there are really few of them||
in any case, I consider the experiment a success and I say thank you to the Rusty Lake team for such a pleasant and new experience
Thank you for the extensive feedback!
||
Thank you for leaving your feedback! As mentioned previously we are working on more translations! We hope to offer more languages as time goes on. I cant offer a timeline on a Korean version though, sorry.
Hopefully we can use our korean social channels to promote it when it gets released though.
I second the concept of pocket pieces. It's been a little time consuming going back and playing through the games to clip actual Rusty Lake items to them edit onto cards. That being said, I've had some fun creating layouts. This is my first try at making one. I don't have a paper cutter, so this was done with an exacto knife and some scissors. I think it came out pretty good.
O hey it looks really lovely! Thank you for your feedback and for your creative take too!
I'm preparing to GM my first game tonight I'm surprising some fellow Rusty Lake fans who don't know about this yet. They are going to be so excited. I have a question about one of the instructions in the office. || Does "bottom" of drawer mean the inside bottom OR do players have to think to take the drawer out completely and flip it over completely to look at the underside? ||
Interesting take. I imagine it's etched into the inside of the drawer, so the players notice it after moving the papers.
Thank you! I really wanted it to feel true to Rusty Lake's style.
Yeah I can definitely see that. Love the idea of using the inventory visuals for that too
I think what you describe as the first option is intended, but as a GM you could also try to add some extras or your own flavour to the puzzles. In some way. So even the second option could be fun and work well. So I would say it’s up to you! And wishing you a really great session, have fun there!
I honestly couldn't imagine anything other than the inventory visuals. It gave me another reason to play the games again, but not everything in Untold has a pre-existing inventory icon, so I'm gonna have to do some digital drawing.
That sounds even better lol
I filled in the Google form but I missed one point. It was difficult for players to realize they need to say "it's time to wake up" before ending the game. Besides, what if the game is a little more like D&D. When players investigate objects, GM roll a dice and decide what to tell the players or how detail the description will be. It would create a more unique experience to everyone in addition to increase difficulty (as they players might have less info).
Thank you for your feedback!
||I played the game again not online with players from discord but with my family and not sure if you guys noticed but there is a typo on the game cards for the text file "options" where there should be no s. Everyone really enjoyed it. It was thought the twists were really unpredictable which were good, aswell as good predictability. A well-paced game thats sociable and interesting. It was said that the cameras in the rooms seemed a bit irrelevant, however by someone else it was thought that it was useful. It was also thought that the vent in the hidden room is on the floor whilst the rest are on the walls. They also thought it looked like a fireplace. It was liked how to figure out which ways the vents went. I would make some of the puzzles a bit harder like the anagram and multiple endings. For the inventory we were thinking a bag or a briefcase. I also have to think on my feet for some responses which can be fun but for example someone asked to use the paperclip on the valve under the sink and I said "you use the paperclip on the valve and it scratches the metal".. perhaps having various different responses for potential interactions. We would like to know who are the other scientists in the lab also. ||
We're aware of the typo thank you for your feedback! And sorry for not getting to your dm request.
thats alright, its doesnt matter too much and you dont need to worry about it now
I just subscribed to the Rusty Lake Untold early access. When do I get the game?
I think it takes a while for the email to arrive, from what I've seen, sometimes the email appears in other folders
Ok. Thanks for letting me know.
Played it with a friend. Love it. I never been a gm before and was uncertain if I could do it. But it was amazing! Rules are clear, not hard to follow and organized well so I was able to be a GM for my friend. Want to play again with my sister soon.
We played via discord and roll20, but I printed, translated narrative part to our mother language and prepared everything to play with my sister face to face. Can't wait to play it again!
Thank you for this experience!
Thank you for sharing:) what language if I may ask?
Of course! We played in Russian.
ahh I see, thank you
Is there a sequence to listen to the Spotify playlist? because there are no sounds specifically for this game.
@prisma lion I believe you can just put it on and let it play, I don't think there's a specific order
I played online, twice(Once in vocal and once non-verbal(only in text)) with a total of 5 players, and it was a great experience to enjoy the game!
We played via personal discord server and PLs who ever used Roll20 said it was better. I made all the rooms by channel and hid them with the roll function(If the PLs entered the room, I gave them the roll to open the channel).
Everyone loved the game, except at some points.
||1. PLs told me it was hard to think they could use the paperclip to get the fuse in the small vent in the electrical room.
2. I wish there was an explanation about the beaker on the chemistry lab page so that GMs can tell PLs to use the beaker. (Also the spoon in the beaker can be used to get the fuse in the vent.)
3. None of the PLs can ever guess what's behind the poster at the office. So I think there must be a hint about it. For example, if there's a line in the wall back of the poster, it will help PLs to guess it. Also in the GM guide, I think there should be written about it even if it works in the final phase.
3-1. I know many GMs have already told you that it is inconvenient to go back and forth to check things in the final phase. So maybe you can write about what can occur in the final phase before, so that can help GMs get ready for PL's actions.
4. Also all the PLs hardly guessed how to use the mark on the poster in the hidden room, even if I gave them a hint about it (like "the poster is inclined a bit" at the hidden room).||
And just one thing I feel sad about is that because it's TRPG-based, it is difficult for Youtubers to play(they have to "show" it to people, you know).
The game was awesome and even the PL who knows less about the Rusty Lake series and story(played Hotel only a few years ago) enjoyed too.
It was a trial for me to translate the guide into Korean so I can't wait for the KOR translated guide so much! Thanks for the game!
Thank you for your feedback!:) A korean translation should be available in the near future
I GM'd recently! I am a baby GM and messed up a little bit but I have some feedback. I agree with the folks about making item cards-- though my players were constantly trying to take everything that wasn't bolted to the floor.
|| So on things that went well. The atmosphere and the writing was amazing. The only puzzle that was a very confusing to them was the binder puzzle.
They kept trying to make a single word. They got Remember and everything else was... Interesting.
Best moment:
"DOI DOI DOI REMEMBER???"
I ended up giving them a hint that the word Remember seemed to slot in correctly but something was wrong with their other three letters.
For the fuse box, it would have been nice to have a version of the fuse box that was empty with pieces for the fuses. It would have been within reason that they'd like... Idk... Eat the fuses. Or tossed them into the vent to see if the scary shadow person was going to attack them.
In fairness, they're not Rusty Lake familiar.
Else, I think the mystery was wonderful.
I ended up using a combination of slides on a projector, the paper pieces, to display the areas and clues. I edited the cards so they were just the rooms or puzzles. For the finale in the machine, I made a black room with a dull glowing cube which I think made for a very neat closing effect. ||
I just finished playing as GM. as person who is first time for GM at all, it was so exciting and fresh experience (I was so nurvous and I feel like I ruined something though). I learned from it the players can try anything even I couldn't think about (example: ||tried to break the tiles, light up the empty paper using flash light, melt down the poster using acid, etc.||) and I need to make some sentences there isn't. but it was really enjoyable to see people solving puzzles and figuring out something and try to lead the players right way to solve the puzzle.
thank you rusty lake for making this wonderful experience
without the guide, I couldn't play as GM
(also thank you for making place for finding partners for it. it really helped me a lot to find partners)
Just finished running the game for my siblings, we had a lot of fun! Here are a few of the feedback notes we came up with: ||1. If it is dark enough to need a flashlight to read the cipher, is there light coming from anywhere at all or is it pitch black until players get the flashlight? 2. If there is a specific way to get water (from the sink) players shouldn't have access to ice in the cool box, which could easily melt and fulfill the water requirement) 3. There isn't a visible stand for the bunsen burner, so there isn't a way to heat the beaker over the flame. 4. Some of the clues or actions can be bypassed depending on the order the players take their actions, for example: If the players do not open the camera feed and instead solve the binder puzzle first, they can access the diagram and figure out it is a vent map and may not open the camera feed at all or even open it once they've already accessed the hidden room (in our game, I allowed the players to separate since there wasn't any rule against that, and one player opened the camera feed once another player was already in the hidden room). The red button also didn't need to be pushed, as players could access the other rooms through the vents. (one solution to this would be having the vent close behind the players once they enter the hidden room) 5. It's hard to know how to run the final phase of the game to ensure the players do it in order; they went back to the kitchen and picked up the phone so I gave them the phone clue but they bypassed the camera feed clue in the office, since I didn't know how to ensure they did it in order. 6. Brute force isn't a great mechanic, since players aren't sure when to try it; if trying it with your hands doesn't work or it's stuck, players often move on without thinking to break something with the wrench, etc. Most irl escape rooms don't have that as an option. 7. I know it's only part 1 but it isn't a very satisfying ending since you end up right where you started.||
Overall, we had a great time and can't wait for the next part! Some of the timing and mechanics could be smoothed out, but it's a really fun idea and I'd love to see more games like this. Also it took 1 hour and 40 minutes to play through completely.
Thank you for your feedback!
I was GM and I had two players. One of them had played all Rusty Lake games, the other hadn't played any of them. I did all the narration in Greek, and verbally translated all the text because one of them isn't very good at English. In the puzzle with the ||isothermic box||, I gave them an extra hint by telling them how many letters the Greek translation had, and I told them I would accept the solution in either language. We split the game into two sessions, two days apart (the first one ended when they ||restored the electricity||). Here's my feedback.
@cerulean niche you can encase text in || to hide spoilers
Just add them before and after the relevant parts
sorry, let me edit
No worries! Thanks for the feedback though, much appreciated.
I was the GM for a fun group of four players. We had a fun and interesting run.
|| - Some players had other ways of trying to break the office wall with their head (yes you read that right).
- The players had split up with half of them in the lab and the other half in the vents. They also named the hand Handmantha
- I had to figure out pacing bc of this but it was manageable.
- We had someone who had played DnD before so they had asked about the limits of what they could do before elbowing the door to the electrical room. ||
Overall everyone had fun and it was a great experience.
Thank you!
I'm kinda grateful that I decided to take on this undertaking of making a miniature version of the lab to use. I've had a lot of time to work out my own ideas on how to spin each vital section, but I also get to read others experiences playing and GMing while I'm building. I can work on problem solving and highlighting the story while creating this massive game board and item cards and game pieces to make this experience amazing for my players.
O wow
Woww!! Good luck with the project!
I loved your comment about the ad-libbed replies on the phone. My guy just kept hanging up on them when they kept giving stupid names like. "What is your name?" "Your MUM!" <he hangs up on you.>
I agree with the feedback too of nothing to hold the beaker over the flame with. The coffee needs to be 'hot' because otherwise they would just use the existing used coffee in the bin to technically make 'coffee' - sure it'd be weak, or diluted, but it would be 'coffee'.
I played a round with four friends this week, i was a bit nervous going in cuz I had never played pen and paper games before but it went amazing! More so because the German translation went out a day before we set the date or else i would've had to translate it myself
Gameplay wise i had to clarify often that no, throwing the boxes and drawers around would not open them haha.
Also, the part with the paperclip wasn't really easy to figure out and the last part, where ||they had to say the words "it's time to wake up" was really hard too, because i wasnt sure how to coax those words out of them?? That's a me problem though||
Storywise, they were sooo disappointed by the end.
They wanted to actually escape, but it did make them want to play the next edition, whenever that comes out.
All in all it was a really fun experience!!
Glad to hear you had fun ! Thanks for the feedback
can i ask a question here anout the game?
hello? 😦
Hello
Hi, this channel is for feedback regarding the pen n paper game Rusty Lake Untold. I recommend to discuss the game in the #📝|rl-untold , so the devs don't have to sift through questions.
hey, just finished playing the game! it was awesome as always. || as a gm i had a hard time grasping the vent mechanics, like you can only enter througj the bedroom and can lead to hidden room from there etc., or thats just stupid me lol. lucky for me the person i was playing with is very smart and good with escape games so he had no trouble with it. the only “bad” thing i can say is the ending where the player needed to say “its time to wake up”. like i read the narrative and waited, he was like “so… then what?” . i ended up saying it and ending the game. but overall it was an amazing experience as alwaysss 🩷🩷 ||
Hello everyone here!
I had several sessions GMing in the game on few tables, and i think i reached to a good commentary about it.
The way that puzzles are designed; Is absolutely wonderful, but as a TTRPG it really lacks some technical Roleplaying.
It doesn't give the players that much room to get into the story as in-game characters. They act like they're solving a ARG except of getting into a TTRPG tale world. It would be wonderful if the future adventures add some player characteristic to the game. I really enjoyed narration of The lab, and I'm looking forward to this game.
Thank you all for the feedback!:)
good game, very fun, i think the vents was very confusing but i managed to do it, i think it is very fun good job everyone
Oh hey that was me!
||solving problems behind a solid object one act of violence at a time||
I was hosting it for two parties:
- People who play RPG games usually. They hadn't bigger problems with game, but were trying to use equipment as weapons to hunt the monster

- Party of 3, in which one person is very familiar with Escape Rooms and Rusty Lake series. They were very intuitive and know what could be use of some items even if they didn't check that things earlier.
For easier gameplay I use some hand drawn graphics. The story is nice. I was scared about the words to tell in the end, but none of parties had problem with that! The only thing which is kinda bad is that Rusty Lake players can experience it a little different than normal player. What I mean, when talking about cubes only some people know what the cubes are etc.
Thank you for opportunity of playing!
You have a cool setup there. Thank you for sharing your experience! 🙂
GMing was so much fun guys!!
A few interesting turnouts:
||• Team tried to dust Rose’s name card with coffee ground to see if there’s any finger prints 😂
• They also tried to see if we can catch the flies and use their “flesh”…
• They already realized in the hidden room that they are potentially entering into a loop, so they scratched out a reminder in the vent (so it’s hidden out of sight) that says, “you are in a loop and this is your Nth journey, try to escape!” They were really reluctant to go to the memory extraction machine but had no other choice lol||
Feedback:
||• Wondering if it would be possible to have alternative endings where they escape?
• Also some of the logic is not very clear - for example, if they know the machine extracts their memory (by the file name etc.), why would they willingly go into it? I feel like if they somehow thought it was a cure or an escape route, only for it to end up in a loop, that would be more logical and also dramatic.
• Also if they immediately wake up again after the loop, how did all the doors, items get into place right away (since we just took them all over the place)? Or did they actually become corrupted souls in this universe and wake up in another dimension? That parts needs a bit more explanation. Also some additional context at the end of the story would be great (are we used by Rose to extract memories over and over again until we die)?
• Also ecco the feedback on having something to hold the beaker when you are heating it up!||
Lastly, I used zoom to play so I can share the music as audio in the background and that was great - definitely added to the whole atmosphere and experience!!
||I think the loop is like an actual time loop. the way the cubes work in Rusty Lake is that you actually use them to go back in time. like in Cube Escape: Seasons, when you go through the black cube, you end up in 1964. so i think the cube works the same way here.||
||i think the black cube contains a memory of what the facility was like before the events of the game||
Oh that makes sense! ||I didn’t play the cube escape series yet… so this is more like going back to the past instead of the “Triangle” (movie) situation where they just experience the same thing over and over but still linear forward timeline||
Thank you for the feedback ! Sounds like your team got pretty inventive, glad you all had fun
big fan of || dusting for fingerprints || hahaha
Hey! Just got here to share my feedback but now I desperately want to do a 3rd party and try your awesome drawings! Are you willing to share them? Like in a PDF? So I can cut it out and impress my friends while I can barely draw a stickman 😎
If I will find a xero then sure, or maybe I can try to do nice photo. But not problem at all!
ooh yes you actually drew them by hand! thought you did digital painting the printed them out 🤖
well then that would be absolutely fantastic but no worries if you don't! 😄
I think ||"door" is about escaping the room, but I'm not sure what "sight" references||
Here to share our feedback!
I'm the GM, and we've got a party of four. We spent about an hour.
J: My BF, has played the whole series of RL with me
B: My friend, hasn't played any RL games
M: B's friend, hasn't played any RL games
H: B's friend, has played some games from the Cube Escape
p.s. B, M, and H used to play TRPG(DND, COC) together.
Interesting part to share
||-After they found the telephone and restored the power, J tried to call the police and a well-known taxi fleet.
-M and H tried to find a knife in the kitchen as a self-defense weapon.
-They broke the door of the electoral room by force, but instead of kicking it, they took the chair from the chemistry lab and smash the door with it.
-J tried to blind the eyes in the vent with the flashlight. ||
.
Details of how we implemented
-We took place in a DC channel I've set up, with text channel for them to take notes.
-I made PPT slides to the show cards to the players (screen sharing). I also attached a BGM from RL playlist on it. This went out quite well, all the players liked it.
( <@&358613639554400258> Am I allowed to share the PPT file and/or a demo video clip here?)
-Since the TC translation is not released yet, I did my own translation based on the EN and the SC version. For the cards I used the EN version and added the translation on my slides.
This came up with several issues and we had a discussion after playing.
||1. For the cypher in the bedroom, I skipped the translation because it's actually not necessary for them to figure out the answer. Also I believe my players know most of those words.
To be honest, it's after the whole gameplay when I finally recognized that those are the words that the players repeated in the machine. (I fixed my slides after that.)||
.
||2. For the experiment instruction, I remain the phrase "note to self / Keep flesh COLD" in English because it would be REALLY obvious if COLD is the only word written in EN (which was how the SC and JP version did). All the players agreed with this point.
However, I must translate the ingredients to make sure every player understands what they're looking for, so it's kind of awkward when only half of the instruction is translated.
J and I believe the best way might be refactoring this puzzle with Chinese characters. For an example he came up with, while "Keep flesh COLD" means "保持冷藏", the answer will no longer be an alphabet code but a symbol code such as ◻, +, ^, ×, hidden in the characters. On the note, replace the phrase with Chinese, and make the answer strokes thicker as the clue for players. Also we'll need an extra card for the cool box to show the players what symbols are available.||
.
||3. For the book shelf in the office, I referenced the SC version and did my own translation for the text file and all the binders. I made switches on my slides and asked the team which language do they prefer. After attempting reading the EN version, B asked for the translation so we switched to TC at the end.
The problem of this puzzle is, it is really easy (probably too easy) for Chinese users to figure out a sentence from scrambled characters. There's even a research that shows the sequence of characters doesn't really bother people reading and understanding a sentence.
Unlike English, there's no spaces between words and words in a Chinese sentence, which leads to "I do remember" hides well on the book shelf but could be easily found out (even without the text file) after translating.
The solution we came up is by adding more binders on the shelf to mislead and tell the player how many binders they may put in a row, so that the text file clue will be more necessary.||
Other feedback
||-With J, a player who'd experienced most of RL games, he is really familiar with what he could do and not. He said he is able think of what they might need when they first met the situation. For example, he knew the wrench is for the water valve immediately, while others are still considering what to do with it.
He is also the only one who recognized the name when I read "R. Vanderboom" on the ID card, others were like "Huh?" "Pardon?" "That's a name? What a weird name." etc.
-B, H, and M, as TRPG players, they expected more flexibility in the process, since the only part that may goes differently is the way of opening the electrical room's door. They also asked if there's different ending.
-The ending part seems to be a bit confusing to them. I gave hints like "Think of what you've seen in the video, you were...? Repeating...?" "Think of what you've heard at the very beginning, when you were in the bed you heard someone says...?"
I noticed that "repeating some specific words" or "say a specific phrase" isn't an option I told them before the we start. I think it might be better to include these actions in the GM guide, where says what players could do.||
Overall, we had a fun time and I really enjoyed the whole process, both preparation and gameplay. Thank you for all your efforts!
I think sharing a demo clip would be okay for your earlier question
as for the feedback; thank you very much for sharing such an extensive list:)
im glad you had fun!
Sure, thanks for the reply! Here's a short demo of how the slides work ↓
It contains several cards in the video, so if you're not a GM and haven't played the game yet, please don't watch the video below 😂
O okay so you made it more interactable, I see.
did you also hand out the cards w/ the ppt or was it just that that you used?
looks impressive though!
I only shared my screen in the voice channel, players took screenshots on their own.
Okay I guess that would work too!
By the way this is my favorite part of the PPT, when ||the power is restored and the light lights up the room||!
really went above and beyond!
Hey could I ask you to DM me the PPT?:)
Of course, it' my pleasure!
Thank you!
I didn't know there was a PPT, would you be able to DM me it? 🙂
There is no official PPT actually. 😂
I made this myself for my party.
You may know how we worked from the previous feedback posts I made.
If you wouldn't mind there's Chinese translation on it, I can DM you later.🙂
Ohh, I didn't realize you made it, I don't mind the translation being on it so could you still dm me 🙂
Message sent! Check if you've received it 😉
I've received it, thank you so much 😁
I played as the game master, and I think there's a better gaming experience with a maximum of 2 players. The game seemed very fun to them, and they believe the difficulty is just right for a physical game (they had no prior experience with escape games). They liked (and were scared by) the story and the idea that they never woke up. However, in parts where they had to recite words, I had to give them a hint by saying, "You need to say some magic words."
It was a bit challenging to search for the sheets when they changed rooms. Earlier, I showed that I made a physical inventory, and they loved it; I think it's easier than writing it on paper. Overall, they didn’t need many hints. I used Spotify playlists, and they loved them. They asked if I had more games like this since they want to play more! And I do too!
#rustylakeuntold
we're working on at least one more Untold adventure! Thank you for the feedback, that cube is a lot of fun!
Wow this is so impressive! May I also ask for the PPT:)? If you are still willing to share
Sure! Message sent!
Message received! Thanks for sharing! I love it and wanna try use it to GM for other friends
Who speaks Spanish?
Hola:)
Hah, my players also tried to catch the flies and use their flesh 😛
Hahaha guess great minds think alike XD
Hi
Why have I been to rusty lake untold so many times but nothing happens?
Sorry can you elaborate?
I have registered. When I went to link in the email, I only saw a thank you note, nothing like guild master, etc.
Yeah so you need to sign up on the website, you'll get a confirmation email, if you click that link to confirm you'll eventually get the GM guide send to you
It may be a while, be sure to check your spam folders!
Nothing is sent to me
I get nothing
I did mention it may take a while; when did you sign up?
Probably only 10 minutes
Please wait longer.
If it takes you days I suggest trying with a different email, you'll get it eventually.
Ok, i will wait and ty
|| I have had a lot of fun playing The Lab! As a person that has never played ttrpg, I could have not had a better introduction. The game is just great, sometimes easy but other times hard as hell. The art also matches perfectly with the vibe and the descriptions, which makes it even better. I like the part where you can have some fun doing something completely useless, like catching the flies. Some of the things like this that I did include melting the water pipe with the acid, trying to drown, trying to drink the acid (I thought it was water)(I later called it dark elixir), trying to make coffee with the acid, catching a fly and eating it, trying to wait for the soul in the vent to bring me the fuse and breaking the wall with my head lol. After all this, I have to say that I had lot of fun with playing The Lab. A massive thanks to @echo onyx , for being the GM in my first playthrough, and for having the patience to play with me (sometimes I just don’t collaborate lol). After playing in the role of a player, I want to try the GM role, so I might host a session with my father and brother, and bring the Lake to new people! A huge thanks to the devs for making this new adventure, and I am looking forward for the upcoming Rusty Lake ttrpg! || #rustylakeuntold
Thank you for the feedback!
And I also like the ending, that makes you remember CE Paradox
I'm getting ready to GM my first game. I thought it would be nice as some have mentioned to have items collected instead of just having to write them down. So, I made little cards with images on them. I put all the instruction pages in plastic binder sleeves, so in the rooms where they could pick up an item, I put the little images cards in the back of the sleeve to keep them organized. I attached a layout of the images I used...but it would be super fun if for the final version Rusty Lake made images using their awesome graphics, since I just used quick internet image searches.
Just had the amazing experience to play The Lab. In my opinion it was just a very amusing way to play a Rusty Lake game, thanks to the lots of interactions you have with both the other players and the gamemaster. I loved how even though it's probably not easy to make a pen and paper game that is actually exciting, the creators still did this. When writing feedback I always try to come up with any small improvement that can be made, but this is a challenge... Thanks for the experience @tulip stump
Thank you for your feedback! if you end up thinking about things you think we'd improve feel free to share them here:)
Hi im new here..... how can i play with my friend ?
If you mean Rusty Lake Untold, you can read #🤔|how-to-play. If you mean The Past Within, there are instructions that explain at the beginning, just read them carefully
Thx!!!
research
I just finished the lab and it was excellent. it actually startled me at the end.
hahah good to hear;) thanks for the feedback!
I’m confused on how to get my friend to join anyone know how?
Do you mean for The Past Within or Untold?
If it's for The Past Within, you only need to have the game installed in both of your devices and communicate (phone call or face to face)
The past within
Then just do what I've written, communicate through a phone call or face to face
Ok
Who plays the game
What game, exactly?
Hi, I signed up for early access an eternity ago (in May and once again with a different address in August) and never got another mail apart from the confirmation (which I clicked on for sure). I repeated this today and am hoping for the best - but maybe someone can help me anyway? 🙃
Hi, I have a issue in this part, I already introduce the right club but nothing is happened
Hi! Yeah this'll be the best course of action for now. Make sure to check your spam folder too!
Hey Leslie I'm not sure I understand. Is this a code the player in the future gave you? If you still need help could you share some more screenshots in #tpw-help
Still nothing 😦 Can I do anything else?
O how unfortunate! Could you dm me your email address? And if you have an alternative one you could use you can try signing up with that
Sorry for the delays
The website seems to be down right now, so I will try a third email address later (luckily I got plenty :D)
مدهش
Can I help?
hi i want to know how to get the lab because i sign up handrued of time and confirm but the mail with the game never came
perdón si mí inglés es medio malo
Hey mind dming me your email address? But also alternatively could you try using a different email address too and also check your spam! Sorry to hear you're having trouble
I experienced my third times GM.
All three PLs are Rusty Lake fans, so it was very exciting.
So far, all three times PLs has chosen to break down the door to the electrical room. They all never use paper clips and never use ID cards.
Plus, they all wanted to break the camera.
They also easily forget to heat the black mixture.
As GM, I feel I need to resolve these issues and guide PLs.
In any case, it is a pleasure to be the GM of this game.
Hola
Hola, necesitas ayuda?
How are you guys
Heya! Can I help?
No thanks.but i have a proplem
Well I feel like you may need help in that case, after all! What is it?
I don't speek english.and i am a arabien
If it helps you're allowed to explain your problem in your native language
is it related to Rusty Lake at all?
Hey bro i say i can't speek english and this is my proplem
Ahh, well I suggest google translate:)
@echo onyx hola yo necesito jugar con alguien te animas ?
Lo siento, yo no juego, pero puedes preguntar en #🔍|tpw-looking-for-player o en #🔎|find-lite-partner

@tulip stump I would like to use this TRPG in livestream in Korea. Is this possible?
Sure, feel free to stream it
Necesito ayuda !
Que es lo que pasa?
Hi
Como puedo jugar con otra persona en el juego
¿Se refiere a «The Past Within»?
holaaaaa no hay grupo en español ??
We need Archivments! Thank you, for DMing @tulip stump
hard to integrate! but thank you:)
Ohh and maybe Early Access to somekind of that game, should intregrate a game maybe, so you already played it and show it to the others, when it comes out
@tulip stump Hello, I am a GM playing in Korea. Sometimes, when players suggest TRPG-like play ideas (e.g., pouring acid to open the vent / or just putting coffee grounds in a beaker, adding water, and boiling it to make coffee), how would you respond if you were a GM?
It's up to your discretion. I'd deal with the acid example differently depending on the play group I'd never allow the coffee grounds in the beaker, personally, reasoning could differ but I'd probably settle on something like "the coffee machine makes it the right temprature" or perhaps "the coffee NEEDS to be filtered through the machine" for some sort of purity perhaps.
But really just do what feels right for you personally.
Thank you for your reply.👍 Also, I found some errors in the puzzle elements that were translated to fit the Korean locale and could cause confusion. I found and fixed these errors while playing, but it seems like the distributed materials need to be revised.
I've seen similar feedback in the Google form and I've made note of it but if you have a full list could you DM it to me?
I'll compare and see if I need to add stuff to our to fix list:)
Hello, I wanted to check if the team is interested in translating The Lab to Arabic?
If so, I would like to volunteer and help bring the game to even more people.
Question: How long does it take from confirming my Rusty Lake Untold subscription to receiving The Lab? I confirmed last night, it has been about 14 hours now (overnight, of course), and I have not seen anything. Should I be worried?
If you don't see it, it might be in the spam folder. If not, I've also heard that sometimes it helps to sign up again, but with a different email
Who do I contact about not having received The Lab download? It's been over two days since I first signed up. Nothing in my spam. I tried signing up with a different email yesterday, and still nothing. TIA for any help!
Hey Apple! That's weird a second email usually fixes it. Could you DM me your email? We can check if it was actually sent
As for the solution... Unfortunately I can only advice you to use a third email haha
That's actually what I did just after I commented, and it finally came through! 😊
Another successful run of Untold. The player I hosted for liked the concept a lot, as a big fan of escape rooms, and even wants to check out the rest of the games/universe! 🎉
good, good
Just finished playing The Lab via online! One possible point of improvement is at the ||map of the ventilator ducts. It was hard to verbally described which room we were talking about||. Maybe this is done on purpose, but if not maybe it's something to consider.
Otherwise it was a fun session! Are we allowed to play this multiple times (w/ GM approval), or is this a one time play thing?
Can you explain this a bit more? I assume it is indeed done that way on purpose but maybe I'm misunderstanding you
Technically you can play again but you'd know the answers
As a next step I'd suggest GM'ing yourself!
So you know there's a place where you ||go into the vent at the bedroom and navigate the ductways to the sercret room||, right? And ||a map is available as a scratched sketch of lines and squares||
We had a bit of trouble verbally communicating ||which square, aka room, we were talking about over on discord||
maybe there was a better way to communicate that we just didn't come up with, and if it's on purpose then I get it, but it was a hiccup in our session that didn't feel like an intended puzzle solving experience, so I thought I'd mention it a point of possible improvment
Hopefully this explanation is clearer?
I do understand that if it's a irl session, this problem doesn't really exist, and even via discord, you can technically edit the image and send it to each other to be clear, but it felt unwieldy to do that and again, didn't feel like a part of the intended puzzle-solving experience
Yes, this is all intentional
No, not in spam, and won’t using another email link my subscription to that email? I don’t have a secondary one that I use, just some junk ones for using to avoid spam, which I never check.
@tulip stump , can you help?
It would yeah, as far as we can tell the second email basically fixes it for everyone. Mind dm'ing me your email address that you used?
Noticed you did indeed send me a DM earlier I must've missed, thanks!
No worries! You are handling a lot here! And it’s Christmas! 🎅🏼
ill play the lab for the first time and im going to be the GM, as i was studing the game i noticed that ||players can get into the vents|| (idk if i can say this here so im just making sure), but in all of the rooms, ||the vents are described as small vents||. The quetion here is: how is that physically possible?
The only explanation I can think of is that ||the inside of the vents somehow get smaller when nearing the rooms? But that doesn't really make much sense||
There are two rooms that have large vents. The best way I can think of to describe this is these two vents function as maintenance access points. The duct system itself would be the same size throughout, but to limit direct access, most of the rooms only have small vents on the walls that connect to the vent system. This allows you to see a little bit of the rooms you're looking into, but the holes themselves aren't big enough to fit through.
Oh, wow, I didn’t think of that! This makes a lot of sense!
Galera
I ran it for my family and it went really well! My mom’s feedback was that it felt a lot better than other escape room type games we have played before. Having a GM really helped, because a lot of the time you play the game and have a lot of questions about logistics that you can’t really figure out, but having someone who knows everything gets rid of that. That difficulty was also enough to be challenging but not annoying. We all had a ton of fun.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's awesome that you and your family enjoyed it very much! It's true, the great thing about having a GM is you get to ask questions and they are answered.
One of the best games i have played in a while. As a GM, at first it felt odd that many possible options were out of the guide but i actually loved it as i progressed though i realised how much was left for the gm to decide and shape as they seemed fit. Thank you for this masterpiece!
Yes as a GM it's important to handle that freedom well. Feel free to experiment to your hearts content:) thank you for the feedback!
#admin Hello! I am an Italian-speaking member of this server and I was wondering if there is a dedicated channel for Italian speakers. If not, would the admins consider creating one? It would be great to have a space for Italian discussions. Thank you!

@steep blade please dont advertise!
Okey
Hello!! I just finished running The Lab, and it was so much fun. With four players it took about an hour and a half to finish. Everything was laid out super well!!! My players didn't run into the corrupted soul in the vents so the phone call later was SUPER spooky. They were also unfamiliar with Rusty Lake lore but still understood everything about the puzzles and hints.
I can't wait for more!!!
Hello! I just read through the simplified Chinese version of GM Guide, and I thought there could be some improvement in the translation of "It's time to wake up!" since the players still need to say the same line at the very end. Now the Chinese translation of this line is not consistent (at the first scene it's translated as "快醒醒!", but then it became "是时候醒来了"), thus the players might not know exactly what to say since there are multiple Chinese expressions in the process, although they mean the same thing. I think it's better if you change all the translations into "是时候醒来了", so that this line would be repeated enough that players can remember it, understand that it's a cycle and say the line spontaneously at the end of the game. The game is excellent and I can't wait to play it with my friends! 🙂
Nice
Hello!! I can't download the game is give my (unable to find application to preform this action) what I'm supposed to do?
Hey, what is this about exactly?
When I try to download the game it gives me that ((unable to find application to preform this action))
What does this mean and what should I do?
Could you send some screenshots?
ahh I see. you'll need a program that can open zip files like winrar
Ohh ok thanks
My sister and I played recently and it was such an enjoyable experience! I did have great expectations when I saw that there would be a RL TTRPG, and I'm happy to say that they were greatly exceeded in the end! It felt like we were actually inside the lab while playing. And not only that, but the puzzles, the top tier art style of the cards, and the overall atmosphere itself brought us spiritually closer to the Lake. However, because it was my first ever time GM-ing a game, the session itself was a bit messy😭 I think I'll need to play a few more times to get into the GM spirit, lol. It did take some time for both of us to understand the logic behind some puzzles, but all in all, we reached the end eventually, and it did remind me of one thing - with Rusty Lake, you always have to think outside the box, and it's one of the things I admire the most about it. So thank you, Rusty Lake team, for releasing such a fantastic tabletop game! I can't wait for the next such project to be released! Keep up the amazing work
And just one more thing. I have a question regarding the game manual. Is it okay if I translate it into my native language? I wanted to do so for personal use only, since my language is not among those listed on the website, but I wanted to check if it was alright for me to do so, just in case.
Thank you very much for your kind feedback:) if it's for personal use it shouldn't be a problem.
Alright, thank you so much^^
I had just learnt about The Lab today after joining the discord and as soon as I did I was in a vc with my friend who also loves rusty lake and asked if they wanted to play this with me, We both had a lots of fun. The puzzles weren't extremely hard and the guide was pretty straight forward. The cards were all really good looking and the art was so... cozy? looking haha not sure how else to describe it. I took some time getting into the mindset of GM (I do play dnd so it wasn't too difficult lol) Love that the game came with a playlist it 100% helped set a mood even though I forgot it was on and didn't notice but would have definitely noticed its absence. I recently got into all rusty lake games after trying out Mr Rabbits Magic Show and you guys have me hooked so can't wait for the next project

Thank you so much for your feedback! Welcome to The Lake:)
Hi there! I'm the friend he played with, and I just wanted to say it was such a fantastic experience. I've been a fan of Rusty Lake for years, so I really enjoyed it. I will admit, I had a bit of a tough time reading or understanding some parts because the letters were a little close together (I'm dyslexic). The cipher was a bit tricky to read, but I found the chemistry note much easier to understand. Overall, I absolutely loved this game and can't wait for future releases!

Anything I can help with?

The master guide in Spanigh has an error in the part where you change the fuses for the second time. Instead of the correct narration it repeats the one when you press the button in the secret room. Not sure how if there are some other minor error but one I saw was in the Bedroom start, instead of “Sienten cómo que han estado cayendo en una oscuridad infinita. Intentan tener una idea dónde están..., should be “Sienten cómo que han estado cayendo en una oscuridad infinita. Intentan tener una idea ***de ***dónde están...
Loved the game
, already answered the poll, but I would like to add suggesting different endings.
Hi
Is there any way to help with translating game to polish? It could be fun to help (orr not if you guys are working on it already😅)
Polish is in the works already!
Sorry late reply on this but this should be fixed in the next update for the Spanish translation:)
Today, I did Untold with my co-workers virtually. I was the Game Master, and we had 8 other people, but only 5 were actively participating. It worked really well. It still took just barely over an hour, which is actually longer than it took for the 3-players in-person session I did over the weekend for practice.
I put each of the pictures on a different slide in Google Slides and covered them up with a large gray box. I shared the slides with everyone view-only and then as I went along, I removed the box to reveal each card. I did have one other person with edit abilities, and he kept a list towards the front of items that they had collected. We also had a QR code to the playlist at the beginning, and the QR code to leave feedback at the end.
I did not plan this, but the person with edit abilities also had a great idea to copy a picture of the map and put it alongside the diagram so that they could map out which room they were in. He also placed an arrow and moved it around on the diagram where they were moving. My in-person group was able to lay out the room cards on the table, so this was a really great way to make up for that. They also figured out how to orient the map to match the diagram.
We all had a great time!
Oh - one quirk that I experienced in both groups: they thought the bunsen burner on the desk in the chem lab was a microscope.
Once again thank you for your feedback! It's really appreciated 😄
hey I've tried to sign up for this about 10 times now and every time I get the initial email but never get the email with the actual game. I've tried a couple different emails. is there any way someone could just send me the pdf at this point?
Can you DM me your email?
I was game master this afternoon all was not evident but now i know the game with online parties too. I hope the next will come soon
Same here.
Hey! Sorry you had this happen to you. Can you shoot an email to Damy@rustylake.com with the mail you signed up with?
Actually, I found the email you sent in the spam, even marking your email as not spam. Sorry for the issue.

Hi! While preparing for the game as a GM, I encountered a small problem. Where can I ask for help without revealing the plot?
You can use spoiler tags on Discord!
Dziękuję! Oto mój problem:||The fuse layout for starting the machine shown in the image is the same as in the room plan, even though the instructions describe a completely different layout: ABG (plan) and ACF (hidden room). Is this correct?||
Edit: ok, I read one more time and translate correctly 🙂 Problem solved 😄 Thanks!

Tonight four of us played the Rusty Lake Untold online, with me as the GM.
We used Figma’s FigJam to run the game, and I definitely recommend this method—it worked really well. I’ll also share the FigJam play board I set up for anyone interested.(https://www.figma.com/board/ffWP7lsHqIXOg1Kw9j29eq/Rusty-Lake_Room-Escape?node-id=0-1&t=I2h6DljTPYiOcdWA-1)
We completely lost track of time and ended up playing for just over an hour. Even after the session ended, everyone was still caught up in the atmosphere and couldn’t fully step out of the game.
We’re huge fans of Rusty Lake, and this one was another amazing experience. Loved it!
Very cool! Thank you so much for sharing. I love seeing the board too
Hi, I‘m doing Underground Blossom! There is an error in the 6th chapter soul station. I opened the 8th locker and put the password in the green box, but the box didn’t open, so it‘s hard to proceed next. I’ve tried to reset the chapter many times, but it‘s the same. Please solve it quickly.
@cosmic thistle hello, what code are you inserting in the box?
It should be ||4195||
The box doesn‘t open.
I just played the game with my friends with me as the GM. It's great fun and we liked it a lot but there are two critical moments that need an update.
In these types of games it's important to always adhere to a strict set of rules as to what you can and cannot do and these two places kinda broke them. That said this could be fixed by a GM with better improvisational skills.
One is || the door to the electrical room, being able to open it busting the door down, or sticking the id card in the side doesn't follow the rules properly. Unless you improvise by saying something like, 'you notice the hinges are kinda rusty' or 'it looks like you could wedge something in the gap between the door and the wall'. The paperclip thing is also kinda like that but less so. ||
Two is || the hidden compartment behind the RL poster. At no point before could you, or was there any intention that you could, break part of the wall or furniture unless it's got an obvious crack like the electrical room. Changing the description of the wall behind the poster to be something like "you take the poster away and notice that part of the wall seems freshly spackled" would illustrate it better because players don't know they have the ability to bust a hole in the wall. ||
Following a strict set of rules of what the player can and cannot do is important because the game teaches them what they can and cannot expect to actually achieve something.
That said, we loved the game and can't wait for a second one.
Thanks for the extensive feedback! Do you reckon the || "knock knock the truth lies behind the lake" || quote isn't explaining enough in this scenario?
loved the lab ||really enjoyed the part where i found love and also a labcoat||
in seriousness ||i did really enjoy it, damy was an excellent and patient gm, so thank you! i honestly have no suggestions||
In the Office, ||the binder puzzle doesn't feel obvious that it does anything|| despite one of my players understanding how to solve it, it only came after I hinted that ||the binders felt like they magnetically locked into the shelf||.
With a few nudges, and someone who's true calling is a Barbarian, they were able to manage to complete the objective
Interesting. Thanks for the feedback!
For this, they ||opened the notepad after the cams||, so I even got confused with the order of operations there
There was a lot of jumping around pages, so I didn't know the quote was supposed to be said until after they progressed past the office
Anywho, I can't wait for future campaigns, this was a lot of fun and despite a few hiccups it felt really polished
-# Threw in a bit of Voice Acting as well, they enjoyed it
If you'd like @tulip stump, I have a recording of our play session since the Bedroom ||Cipher||, when I remembered I had a clipping software.
Yeah there's definitely things we've learned we'll do better come next campaign, thank you!
Yeah sure why not!
I think the hardest part without me practically spelling it out was the ||cooler box requiring the word COLD||. They figured out where the code was, just didn't recognize it as the answer to a code
I finished the "The Mr. Rabbit Magic Show" and it was perfect
Glad you enjoyed! Did you collect all the cards?
*this channel is for The Lab RL Untold campaign tho 🙂
yes all 18, what is the lab, I saw a card in the game but did not understand if its a new game or what
It's a tabletop pen and paper game! The Lab is its first campaign, avaiable for free in https://www.rustylakeuntold.com/ (for game masters)
We also have #1264933398028488785 if you want to play as a player
Good
We only had a mild confusion with ||the drawer map||, mostly my fault, but the reference for it being at the top and not nearby the area actually being used made me just improvise that stage
this game is impossible to play with blue collar electricians lol
