You'll need to disable Sonar if you don't want it to default to it

It shouldn't be garbage, might be a broken install or bad settings

You can try installing GG again without uninstalling it

Over the past few weeks, my previous PC build started having issues with Discord. It randomly froze and became completely unresponsive, while also disconnecting me from the server. The logs were empty, and there was nothing relevant in the Event Viewer either (other than The program Discord.exe version 1.0.9216.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed.). Later, even explorer.exe (The program explorer.exe version 10.0.26100.7019 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed.) began restarting every 2 minutes, and I was already planning a Windows reinstall.

The issue started shortly after I bought a SteelSeries Alias microphone, although I can’t say for certain that the two are directly related. I still have one day left to request a refund for the microphone if it turns out to be the cause.

In the meantime, I upgraded the CPU, motherboard and RAM (thanks to black friday), so the Windows reinstall made sense. However, Discord immediately started acting up again right after installation.

It most frequently crashed when using the Discord desktop app, typically when someone sent a message containing a link (e.g. YouTube Shorts or any other URL).
The web version works without any issues (so far, started using this morning).

Any idea or suggestion?

Yesterday I unplugged my headphones from the microphone, then disconnected the SteelSeries Alias entirely and requested a refund for it. After that, I still had one or two “explorer.exe stopped working” errors, but after a full system restart everything has been working fine so far.

Does this suggest that the Alias driver/software might be faulty, or is it more likely that the device itself was defective?

Hey guys, i own the arctis nova pro for a while now. I now "upgraded" by buying an Alias Pro. I didnt find any advanced tips when it comes to wireing. Right now, the right dial and button from the Alias Pro do work (lights go on etc) but they are not working when it comes to muting audio or setting up volume. In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

3. If you are having issues with step 2 or step 3 above, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

If you see the "Sonar did not allow this app to change outputs" error, then step 1 above did not work, and you may need to do step 2 or step 3 to route your audio.

Many SteelSeries headsets come with Sidetone, which allow you to hear yourself through the headset’s mic for better clarity when talking.

For most headsets, the volume of the Sidetone can be lowered in SteelSeries Engine, which is part of GG. GG can be downloaded here: https://steelseries.com/gg Additionally, if your device has support in the Arctis Companion App, you can change this setting through the app on your phone.

If you have a “Playstation” version of a headset (such as the Arctis Nova 7P) then your headset may have a physical wheel on the headset for turning the sidetone down.

For analog headsets that use the 3.5mm headphone port, sidetone may be generated by your on-board audio devices. Please refer to your computer manufacturer’s support for more help

They were working last night, but it seems like the audio isn't going through now.

I have some lofi playing in Opera browser to test.

Hi there - anyone else got one of the following problems?

1. My microphone mutes itself whenever I join a chat in TS3 / Discord or starting Arc Raiders - I cant figure out - which setting does that. Its turning my microphone "mute" like the small button at my headset does. Actually I allways gotta unmute it - this behaviour is new to me and I dunno how to fix it.

2. I have the problem - that other apps too - but especially my steelseries Sonar window seems not to get DPI scaled right. Most of the texts appear pixelated and wrong displayed to me - anyone knows how to fix that ?

In windows 11 itself I use 225% actually.

the GG software has Sonar in it which has a bunch of extra audio features. it needs to be the active audio output in windows to work properly. you can turn it off in GG if you don't want it, but keep in mind some headset features like chatmix won't work if Sonar is off

Just got the headset after reading a bunch of reviews saying it was pretty good and I'm quite impressed by the sound quality, BUT, for some reason no apps on my PC (Windows 10) get input from the microphone though i can tell it works cause the live mic preview works.
Also, i don't know if I'm being dumb but i cant seem to figure out how to work Sonar correctly so maybe that is the issue though i have seen lots of complaints about the mic not working. I did log a ticket on the Steelseries website but will only get a reply hopefully on Monday.

I have tried the following.

-Disabling and re-enabling Sonar
-Uninstalling and reinstalling the steelseries app.
-Checking the priviacy settings on windows (that what the internet said to do).

Getting super frustrated casue things should work straight out the box in my opinion.

Hello. For some time now, when launching the game "Cyberpunk 2077", I have this circle on my screen. The same circle appears when Helldivers 2 is launched. Does anyone know how to remove it? There is a suspicion that this has something to do with the SteelSeries GG utility.

It turned out that yes. It was displayed even when the GG utility was disabled. But it seems I've managed to solve the problem. GG has nothing to do with it. I just had to go through the Nahimic settings. And I haven't used it since May. Thank you for responding.

Try setting your full keyboard to solid clean colors (Red, Green, Blue). You'll most likely see the key turn off when blue. That means the blue LED in that key has died

Recently bought the apex pro mini wireless and the Rival 5 Wireless. I do not have a USB-C port on my PC or motherboard to use the 2.4ghz adapter. If I go to Best Buy/Target and buy a 3.0USB to USB-C adapter to plug the dongle into would that make them work? I have to punch my arctis wireless pro headset to make the power button even work, slap the side of the speaker plate, also my battery shows its fully charged when its empty so i have to reinsert it into my base a couple of times before it shows its charging

Anyone have an issue of their mouse LED's just not working anymore? I checked prism and all other software. Problem started after weird glitch where left click stopped working, had to reinstall device drivers in Device manager. reinstalled GG and tried a factory reset of mouse.

itll say it's desktop recording, then after about a minute, or upon launching any game i could clip in the past, will shut off (given i clip about a minute-long clips), then cant turn clipping back on at all

Hey guys im on pc with the arctis nova 7. My audio playback from mic sidetone sounds super crisp, but not hearing the same results when recording my voice in other applications. Are there any mic eq settings on sonar or some other way to optimize my audio input so it sounds better? Hello,
I need help with SteelSeries GG Moments. It suddenly stopped working and I cannot capture any moments anymore.

Here is what is happening:

When I launch a game, Moments shows “Ready to Capture”, so the game is detected correctly.
However, when I press Alt + S, nothing happens — no clip is saved.
I didn’t change any settings. It just stopped working from one day to another.
Manual hotkey is set to Alt + S (default).
Auto-clip is disabled.

What I have already tried:
Reinstalled SteelSeries GG four times
Deleted all leftover folders in AppData and ProgramData
Launched GG as Administrator
Launched the game as Administrator
Tried disabling overlays (Discord, Nvidia, Steam, Xbox Game Bar)
Tried different games (same issue)
Moments still shows "Ready to Capture", but no clips are created.

At this point, the software detects the game but does not record anything at all.

Can you please help me fix this?

Hello. For some reasons my microphone does not connect to dc. I have an arctis Nova 7X. I have set the micro in sonar to the correct mic in on the headset, I have deaktivated all other input devices and also set the correct imput device in dc, yet the mic does not work. ~~Well, I see that I'm not the only one suffering from this v100 update. Was anything tested before it went live?

• Firstly, as soon as the update finished, Moments stopped monitoring whatever game I was playing.
  • Then after restarting the app as Admin, it would start, then immediately stop and say "waiting for game to capture" almost as if it said "Hmmm, I don't wanna capture that game."
    Now, it refuses to even load the window anymore.
    I restarted PC, then it killed my Windows Audio Service (which granted isn't hard to do, that antique hasn't changed since Vista)
• Uninstalled then restart, then reinstall... still wont show the window...
  • Looked for the installer for the last version that I was using that worked just fine, no archive of past versions to download.
  • Uninstalled
• Reinstalling now again v100 and honestly have no idea what to expect anymore.

This software had been my most hyped software, I would recommend friends use this instead of the only alternative that I had literally scolded the creator for falsely declaring things about his software that were not just technically incorrect, but entirely incorrect. I'm not declaring myself a coding genius, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you have to run something in compatibility mode for an older generation of windows, it is not natively supported by the current version of windows........... I'm getting off topic...

I'm at my wit's end with the Arena9 speakers. They are set as the system default audio, sound upmix is turned off on the sonar app, and STILL game dialogue and cutscenes will go routinely muted as game dialogue gets routed to channels the speakers clearly don't relay.

I have tried every sonar game profile, messing with different EQ's, and it's the same awful experience.

Nothing fixes it, I can't hear my in-game dialogues over half the time.

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

3. If you are having issues with step 2 or step 3 above, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

If you see the "Sonar did not allow this app to change outputs" error, then step 1 above did not work, and you may need to do step 2 or step 3 to route your audio.

Hi there ^^ I was looking for buying a new headset, however i had some concerns about the dongle : It seems rather large and i know as a usb c it won't fit on my pc (the port is next to the hdmi port and i need it, plus i do use the port for my phone). Is there any managment possibility for it to be plugged on usb A or to be moved a bit away from the port (~3cm cable at least, just for the hdmi cable to fit)
