Emotes

We've created a dedicated channel to display the emotes for the server in #emotes-and-stickers. The emotes are shown with their creator below which allows for #rules-and-info to be more readable on all platforms. If there are any incorrect creator names, please message us at #support-and-faq or DM myself. Currently there's not many slots available (plenty of Nitro slots) and want to save some room for Silksong related emotes, which means some old/unpopular emotes may get removed in the future. Thank you to everyone for continuing to create and submit emotes.

Voice Channels

We've changed one of the voice channels from a 'Hollow Knight-only' channel to a General channel, allowing for more people to play/stream other content whilst talking to those who're on Hollow Knight. Am open to create 'Silksong-only' channels when the game launches depending on interest.

200,000 members

The server recently reached 200,000 members! Thanks to everyone for sticking around whether it's chatting, creating art/mods or helping each other, lurking in the server waiting for a in #hk-announcements or asking "Any silksong news?" in #sk-discussion once in awhile. The Hollow Knight community/fan base has grown heaps over the past 5.5 years and will continue to do so with Silksong, both here and other HK communities.

General Update

The past year has been both chaotic and quiet. The impending 'release window' was drawing near and spikes in activity such as #SILKSWEEP took place which saw lots of members 'silksong-ifying' their profile pictures. A collage of that can be seen here: #sk-discussion message. However the year was also quiet as we wait for more info about Silksong. Hopefully this server has remained a chill place to chat with one another about Hollow Knight, Silksong and everything else. There's not too much to say other than thank you for sticking around, helping new players, chatting and awaiting Silksong with each other. I really look forward to the future of the server and the wider Hollow Knight community.

Is there a feature, channel type, or anything you want to suggest for the server? ModMail is always open for contact. Always happy to improve the server in whatever way possible to serve all things Hollow Knight in it's 6th year and beyond.

Expression of Interest - Moderators

Another year goes by and to prepare for increased community activity with Silksong, it's time we reach out to see if anyone would like to help maintain the server. Hey everyone,

New Admins

It was inevitable, but it's time for some new admins. For the longest time there's only been @inner hedge and myself, and then later just I as the only active admin. Though it's been okay, it's also held a lot back with differing time zones, how often I can attend mod matters, and being on my own to handle all admin duties. The server will soon be 7 years old (and Hollow Knight too!) and the current hierarchy isn't a permanent solution. With more admins on board, there'll be more varied perspectives, more hands to tackle any tasks, and hopefully hastier actioning of tickets and implementing changes. As I've become more involved with helping Team Cherry, it's also a good opportunity to hand the server over to the community as that's what the server was from day one.

Reporting and Safety

Recently we've been unfortunate to have bad characters revealed in the moderator team. Thanks to the reports of members and follow up discussions, they've been removed from the team and server. Firstly, a new bot @vernal elm is here to handle admin-only tickets; check #support-and-faq for more details. If you'd like to report something to the moderator team, use @burnt garnet. If you'd like to report something to the admin team, use @vernal elm.

Please remember to stay safe online. I'm aware it's mostly common sense but in the ever-growing online dependence/space we spend time in, it's important to remember online safety. From anything between sharing personal details and privacy concerns, to harassment and manipulative behaviour by others. Whether in this server, DMs, Discord or anywhere online, please be careful with what you share and what others share with you. The safety and enjoyment of everyone is a priority and the sooner a report is made, the better; things can be questioned and actioned sooner with more evidence available.

If you're ever unsure or have any questions or concerns about anything, don't hesitate to create a ticket and contact the team. If the issue pertains to a moderator or a higher task, contact the admin team. With some recent losses to the moderator team, you can look forward to mod applications being open as well as additional server changes in the future.

Emotes

For awhile now we've hit our cap of 250/250 emotes and with Silksong introducing a new cast of characters, more potential emotes need to find a home here. We're currently collecting data of emote usage to gauge a general idea of which emotes are used compared to which ones we can safely delete. On top of the data, we'll focus on whether the emote is good or bad quality, if it's a mirrored/duplicate, featuring a character with too many emotes or simply a game sprite. All these factors considered, some emotes will be removed to make way for future submissions, both Hollow Knight and Silksong.

As we approach the 7th anniversary for both the server and Hollow Knight, it's still surreal comparing the community size from February 2017 to today. As the wait for Silksong continues, we'll try and prepare the server as much as possible for the increased activity and growing community. The Hollow Knight community, whether here, other Discord servers, or the wider games' audience, deserve the best spaces to interact with one another. I've learned a lot from running the server all these years, from all the time that's passed and from mistakes I've made along the way. I look forward to seeing everyone experience Silksong and thank you for sticking around and keeping each other company in the meantime.

Things have been pretty quiet lately, but we've been doing some spring cleaning here and there, and we're ready to share some new things we've worked on!

Mod Apps

We wanted to announce we're back to opening applications for staff positions, this goes for Mods, Modding Staff, and Art Staff. CLICK HERE to fill out the application!

HK Help

Secondly, we've shuffled around how we think we want the channel function. After some feedback, we think we're in a good spot, but we'll continue to monitor how the channel operates over time and see if additional changes need to be made

HK Meme

We're piloting a change where we give people talk permissions again, but we're still keeping it centralized based on HK memes exclusively. This means the channel will go back to adhering to normal rules.

• We've added a tag to help describe what we're doing and how to behave, go ahead and use ?tag memetrial to get the info!

Support and FAQ

We've restructured #support-and-faq to try and reflect what we want people to go to. In the past we've seen people use Tickettool over ModMail for general issues. ModMail should be used first and foremost before using TicketTool!

We've also included a FAQ! This will allow us to dynamically expand on things in the future

Events have unspokenly been held in #sk-discussion , we've included a tag to help keep things in line with what we want out of events, try out tag eventfaq to see it!

Continued Server Overhaul

Spoilers

Discussion channels have long been a place where people can discuss without the need to spoiler anything from the game, we want to keep this structure. Help channels have their own criteria for what words you can and cannot spoiler, please check the pinned messages of each channel for a rundown of how they operate. We will also be implementing a temp restriction for #hk-general , listed in more details below.

• hk-general
  #hk-general (previously hk-offtopic) used to be a place where people could come and talk about either series while diverging into off-topic discussions, with Silksong on the horizon, we want to be more strict about people talking about their games in their respective chats. Alongside this, we want to make sure people aren't popping in there and seeing Silksong spoiled unnecessarily for them if they don't want that, so we will not be allowing any Silksong discussion in #hk-general for the first week of the game. After that, both games can be discussed there no spoilers necessary.
• Help
  We will open #sk-help 1 week after Silksong's release, we want to curate a space for people to explore and get lost in an amazing world. We understand that some people need help, and we want those people to have an avenue to seek help, and we want those giving help to align with our current structure of how #hk-help has always been. We think this will be a good balance.
• Missing Channels
  make sure to re-visit id:browse to see if there's other channels you're missing and want to assign yourself to

• #sk-discussion and #sk-discussion-2 allow spoiler tags for the game, just because we allow spoilers, doesn't mean you should needlessly post spoilers, this is punishable!

Silksong has been out for a while now and it's been a joy to see everyone conquer hard bosses and challenges. While you all have traversed new lands and honed your skills, our need for overflow channels have completed their purpose.

For that reason we'll be sunsetting #sk-discussion-2 and #sk-help-2 , these channels will be moved to the Archived category.
In addition to that, #hk-general will now be opened up to both series discussions without the need for spoilers.

We've also let Nitro Boosters bypass slowmode as a small perk.

We’re currently in the process of coding and setting up a custom set of code that will change the way permissions function on the server. One message gets you one point, and upon accruing 150 messages you will be able to utilize our Voice Channels
After 300 messages, you will gain image perms.

Of course, this comes with caveats. All the rules still apply, so spamming to gain perms will get you muted and/or banned if you continue to do so. Furthermore, when you get muted, kicked or banned, your point count is reset to zero and you have to restart your point total journey.

But fear not! Several of our channels will be exempt from this image. This includes, #hk-help, #sk-help. #1057825333841240104, #modding-discussion, #randomizer, #art-discussion, #hk-art-gallery and #speedrunning.

For technical (discord API ) limitations, we only pull a certain amount of messages for each user to pre-populate these changes, most current active users will have these changes already rolled out upon them, however if you are a returning user who has not talked in a bit, we may not have been able to update your count automatically.

Please check your roles, if you do not have Images or VC roles and you have above 300 messages, please message @elder flower and he can update your roles. Any questions can be fielded to @burnt garnet. The role rollout has already begun, so hopefully this cessates the flood of scams we’ve been dealing with. Continue having fun with Silksong and hopefully the wait for Sea of Sorrows doesn’t take too long this time, alright?

Oh yes, the push to talk issue has been fixed by the way.

Final message for real this time, two things. One, you can DM Modmail, use ticketool, or dm other moderators to aid with perm problems if you already meet the requirements.

Two, spam will lead to you being muted and your message count needing to be restarted. Don’t be rulebreakers and the message requirements will not be a problem.

Hi there, i've pushed everything up to github for code transparency, just in case anyone has had any sort of worries, we only collect message count and your userId, this is used to assign roles directly to discord.

For our initial seeding, since we cannot see a users message count the same way we as people can, i've taken the top 250k messages from each channel via discord cache and API call, then reduced it and added it to mongoDB, additionally we've been having the bot "listen" on messageCreate and just incrementing counts by 1, this should be the exact same as other leveling bots do it, this has been listening for several days and we're just rolling it out now. This is why some of you who have a lot of messages are missing roles.

Hi all. It appears that one of the Art Bots; Nailmaster Sheo was hacked and began to mass tag everyone in almost every channel. I can't say this has happened before. Bots being able to @ everyone was an oversight it appears, but regardless, going to investigate how that occurred.

Deepest apologies to everyone, will work wonders now. Especially now where updates are coming close and a ping could mean news to you, this was not the case.

This was the first time something like that has happened here, and it surprised me. Luckily we were able to control the situation quickly, but again, i'm sorry.

I did a dumb thing.

I posted the code for Sheo on Github, to allow people to use it for their own bots to download images from channels. But during that process I forgot to remove the bot's application token (a long password for accessing the bot). This was scraped and used to make Sheo into a spambot.

The bot wasn't hacked, nor was my or any admin's computer. It was honestly a matter of forgetting to remove a password from publicly-posted code, and that is a pretty amateur mistake. I am so sorry that this happened. As manager of the bots on this server it is my personal responsibility to make sure that things like this are secure, and I really messed up.

Sheo has been booted for the time being while I reset his credentials, and when I update the Github page a valid application token will no longer appear. I'm so sorry to have put you all through this.

Hope everyone enjoyed the Hollow Knight: Silksong reveal! It was definitely an exciting time for both the server and Hollow Knight fans everywhere online. For those wondering, this server will indeed host Hollow Knight: Silksong and relevant additions/adjustments to the server may happen when needed. The more boosts the server gets, the better, with a maximum potential of 250 total emotes. As we reach different tiers we'll definitely add more emotes as space will no longer be an issue, as well as utilize the additional benefits when possible.

We've decided to discontinue the use of @deep folio on the server as it can (mostly) be replaced by @knotty crystal and other bots with better uptime; also quicker adjustments can be made. The Zote Delivery Network server won't be connected to this server anymore and custom meme commands won't work here; although it still has all the memes. Just to let you all know, there have been reports of scammers abusing Discord’s new QR Code Login in order to hijack accounts. If you receive any unsolicited messages asking you to scan a QR code in order to unlock/receive prizes, please ignore it. Doing so will give likely give a scammer access to your Discord account. Furthermore, we are aware of the recent increase in server outages. Unfortunately we can't really do much to prevent them as it's handled on Discord's end.

Hey all,

After lots of discussion and ideas on ways to improve current processes or make things easier for users and moderators, we've undergone a few server changes.

In the same way we introduced <@&472889154624028672> to make moderation easier, we've introduced @burnt garnet to make shifting through server feedback easier. Server Feedback served well in dropping new emotes, talking about state of the server and asking general questions, but quite often it'd require reading long conversations and even missing suggestions/comments entirely as it's flooded away. Now with Mod Mail we can directly see each suggestion and respond to them all via the bot. Simply DM the bot and select our Discord to send a message to the moderation team.

We've replaced off-topic-2 with #hk-general. We've never had a casual channel where you could freely talk about Hollow Knight without spoiling, whilst talk about off topics without flooding potential Hollow Knight conversations. This channel will bridge that gap in a more relaxed state. The channel description reads: This channel is open to all spoilers for both Hollow Knight & Silksong and off-topic discussions. Redirect off-context memes to #hk-meme. Be sure to follow the server rules in #rules-and-info.

The state of the old meme channel was rule-breaking and toxic to say the least, and it become draining to moderate. The great memes were only flooded by TOS and rule breaking content which was too much to handle. We've decided to only allow Hollow Knight related memes in #hk-meme. Although there's sometimes context to post regular memes, these are allowed in other channels (not out of context, copypasta, shitpost).

#voice-chat

We've disabled file attachment to hopefully make it easier to moderate and discourage posts that don't align with the rule's we've imposed with the server. This allows non-microphone users to actually use the chat to communicate to talking users.

The more the merrier, so we're opening up an expression of interest form to help moderate the server. Applications will probably be open for about a week so if you're interested, get it in ASAP. Auto Delete

We've introduced an Auto Delete feature for #livestreams, #hk-art-gallery & #hk-meme. Effectively, this will ensure these channels are 'media-only' channels and eliminate accidental text messages being sent.

As per above, #hk-meme has also been turned into a media-only channel. This change comes as a result of an increasing amount of complaints and <@&283547423706447872> pings due to issues such as uncomfortable/NSFW/lewd/sexual content and conversations taking place far too often. Mod ping will still work if sent in chat. This is our final option before deleting the channel as a whole, so we'll be monitoring it closely to ensure rules are being upheld.

Hey @everyone,

Been awhile since we've written up an announcement post like this. A lot has happened, but at the same time, not really. We've surpassed both 100k and 150k member milestones, the 4th and 5th anniversaries for Hollow Knight and the server have come and gone, and some Hollow Knight: Silksong news has just gone live! Check out #hk-announcements if you haven't already. With the recent action happening, we figured it was a good time to host another giveaway for the community. Also below we have some clarification on our stance with piracy and modding support, an expression of interest form for becoming a moderator, and the expected updates on emote and sticker additions. Thank you to @balmy onyx for the incredible artwork!

Thank you to everyone for being a part of the Hollow Knight community, whether you're active in the communities and social spaces, or quietly sitting back and patiently waiting for Silksong. To all the members of our server here and the subreddit, content creators and streamers, speedrunners, mod developers and helpers, artists, lore enthusiasts, meme appreciators and everyone else. The community has done some fantastic stuff from insane in-game challenges completed, massive art/content collaborations, creating the extensive amount of mods for the game, and five years later still passionate about the game, it's world and helping others experience it. Very much looking forward to what lies ahead as we approach Silksong.

Piracy

Over the past few years we've had plenty of people come to #archived-modding-help expecting assistance with installing mods... on a pirated copy of the game. It won't work, and we won't help people who expect it after having pirated the game. Please purchase a legitimate copy of the game before seeking help with mods. The pinned messages for the Modding channels have additional details if required. We're in the midst of updating channels and their pinned messages around the server for further clarification in a concise format.

Expression of Interest - Moderators

Have you ever thought of turning into an orange, perhaps a grape or a cog? Well if so, you're in luck as we're running another form to seek those who are interested in becoming a moderator for the server. We'll be keeping these applications open for about a week, so send a response as soon as possible. If you have any questions, feel free to ask us in DM's or via Mod Mail.
