also you should start on full health so you can cut out a lot of the healing

Are you doing this while Hollow Knight is on? I would suggest setting everything up while HK is off first. If you're really, really struggling you can simply download a splits file from speedrun.com
To get the timer to pause during loads (not while the game is paused) you want to right click, then go to Compare Against, then click "game time"

The only major thing is lever skips but those don't usually matter too much

I’ve been speedrunning on switch and my closest to sub one hour is 1 hr and 10 sec. I’ve found it super hard to shave off any seconds. Since you can’t downpatch switch (I think) you can’t do the watcher knights door clip which can take a while. Good luck on your speedruns and I look forward to seeing more of them 🙂

hey so i'm a bit (very) new to speedrunning, I've watched some speedruns and wanted to try pathing (Albeit very slowly and very badly) the any% category, and while I was able to get some of the skips (Fireball greenpath skip, and Watcher Tower Pogo), some of the skips I was having trouble with. Those being the Salbura Shade skip, the lever skip in the watcher's tower, and the baldur 1-hit ko with vengeful to get into greenpath. More specifically:
The shade kept spawning where the gruz mother was, and when it wouldn't would just go back when it got near me.
I spent 30 minutes trying to shoot the baldur, it just wouldn't die
I spent 20+ minutes trying to hit the lever, even watched a video on it, and it just never worked. Last week I was running on main patch, now I'm running on that other patch that was recommended to me when my modinstaller wasnt working

You're likely at patch 1.4.3.2 to make mod installer work
The route for the any% run on that patch is very similar, but those two specific tricks are the biggest difference
You have to just kill the Baldur as normal because fireballs stop before they get to the end of the screen, and you have to just kill the husk guard in spire as you would've in a regular playthrough

There's another speedrun for 100% in under 20hrs, you're at below 5, you have 15 hours to get a 100% completion, however there's also a 100% achievement on steel soul, so I ended up doing both of those on the same file

These are mine. It's very ergonomic.
An additional to this is that I'm tempted to move inventory from 4, as I have long nails and sometimes catch it when pressing nail.
My hands are a nice distance apart so that my wrists don't bend, and my fingers just bend and the joints and don't have to physically move, save for focus and escape to pause (which are both actions that don't require much finesse).

i think it varies from console to console, but my advice would be to just watch the WR run and see how much time you're losing
generally under 20s of time loss to WR for mothwing cloak is really solid, but greenpath is generally a really tricky split when you're new
between fb skips, vk quick kill, and moss knight doubles (which are all brutal on console) it can be quite difficult to optimize

there are top level runners using both controller (dpad or analog) and keyboard, so it's mostly up to personal preference. some controller players use claw grip for fireball skips to make the turnaround easier, and for keyboard there's a program called socd cleaner that makes turnarounds easier

If you're interested in running you can start at almost any point. The only suggestion really is that you get to the end of the game if you're doing full game runs.

You need to have a specific setup for your shade here to work. Nail 1 or an extra mask works. You need to get to the left, fireball your shade to aggro it to you, then Pogo it. You get one shot each death.

First step is generally picking a category you wanna start out with, for full game runs any% and All Skills are recommended starting out
