I'm practicing PoH for a race with a friend I'm doing in a couple weeks, just beat it for the first time tonight with a time of 41:52, anyone have guides to strats I should learn? I roughly know the grimm balloon skip, and a couple of general things from watching a couple of runs, but I'm more or less a newbie

Btw I'm not going to use fury strats for this race because my friend is gonna be running a DS3 boss rush, so I want to keep the times in the same ballpark. Plus I'm not confident I could learn that strat in time to have it consistent by then

Oh, in that case it requires a skip that only two people have ever done RTA, I think the skip is posted in the rando channel. Isma’s mag skip. You need spell twister for RTA. I don’t think there’s a route posted anywhere outside “get claw, get wings, get twister, get ismas, beat the game”

yeah, if you go to video producer on twitch and select the stream vod, you can click "highlight" to trim the vod down - get the whole run (including title screen) and then click publish

vods themselves expire after i believe 14 days for non-partners, whereas highlights don't expire

What I found helpful was watching other speedrunners, and finding little tricks. Like for the life of me I can't do the fireball skip, but then I saw one guy lure the mosquito thing up near hornet and pogo'd off it. That I can do!

and pinned in #any-percent-nmg

keep in mind that it's pretty tight, so don't go too hard on yourself when you'll have a hard time getting it

but even failing this 2 cycle strat sets you up in a pretty comfortable 3 cycle position

3 is fine if you need it but you will struggle and need to slow down for soul. You can only reasonably get 5 hits in the room in the middle. Thing is, if you feel like you need the extra its probably because you're jumping too early. You can buffer the jump later than it seems. The problem with using more fbs is that there's then a higher risk of losing important height.

Thats called nohboard.

You'll need to do a bit of setup and make your own layout but from what I understand its not too complicated.

Every time i start, it completely skips over the first split; I just deleted and redownloaded it since i got it awhile ago and never did anything, re-set everything up and it's still doing it, what do i do?

The way it works is by checking every frame if x has been completed and splitting if so. Maybe try using ordered splits. Its a tick box in the settings.

That does require the autosplits to be in order but it'll only check for the next split in the queue which is less resource intensive and usually fixes weird split time issues.

I've got an "Auto Start/Split (by Voxelse)" (since not HK), and in those settings, its got the option for it to auto start, auto split, and a bunch of choices for it to know what splits to recognize (pretty sure i've got all the ones i need and atleast the beginning ones in correct order)

Really though you should ask in the server of the game you're trying to make it work in. Livesplit is open source and other people make these autosplitters so they'll each have their own bugs and quirks.

I also did the switch from controller to keyboard - i appreciate the better hand ergonomics, and more precise directional movement. However keyboards are a whole other world, getting the right keyboard for you can take a way more time (and especially, money). And you can reach the same results by playing on a controller with a good dpad, if that's what you want to do

I really like the feedback that dpad gives, but don't want an analog stick getting in the way. So I looked for something that would suit my wants and ended up on the Hori fighting commander controller. Added benefit of it is that it has large buttons, which is great for my big hands.

also, it's not a huge deal b/c i can always physically mod the controller, but how slick or grippy is the hori? one issue with my switch controller is that the handle plastic is so slippery that i had to put masking tape on the handles to get a solid enough grip that i could effectively use both of the trigger buttons

if you right click on the main window > change comparison... you can switch to other comparisons

for example, Best Segments compares to the time equivalent to if you did every split as fast as you've ever done in a row

Its extremely precise regardless of patch though. The trick is to figure out how to start the cdash without losing any height. If its not start at all youre too high on the wall. You can be relatively low. You want your little eye hole about halfway in the acid

If you don’t already have one, there’s a path of pain save on SRC so you can do it over and over again without having to play the game again. QOL mod lets you do pop on the same save over and over again if you want to practice that way, but not okay to use for runs.

Getting Nail 1 (the first upgrade) is a common strategy to help against Watcher Knights.

Doing them slowly; you can hit spiders to gather soul and just keep hitting them with Vengeful Spirits.

Doing them quickly; watch/learn the strat and be extremely confident. You have to just commit to the strat. It often looks like it's not going to work, and you're going to feel like you're about to die, but then they die first.

i doubt anyone cares too much, but spore shroom route is about 10-15 seconds slower comparing comsob sheet. Ultimately, the THK fight can be lowered by quite a bit more and im sure the movement can get cleaner for trap bench and spa, but the THK fight being extremely random for spore shroom makes this hard in practice.

Yeah basically, the 1xx% categories are meant to be the max percent completion for the specific dlc; if you had 100% runs on current patch, you'd have people just missing out 12% on purpose

Honestly, shade soul route. It’s super comfy. Does more damage than a nail upgrade and since you have to get dash slash you can also skip qga if you want.

I learned the route from Slaurent but there are at least 3 people with shade soul runs on the board now, probably more.

Sub 40 with shade soul is absolutely feasible
