Any% is generally quite hard, but there's lots of hard things you can skip for a while, or extra things you can get to make it easier.
All Skills is quite a long category in comparison, probably about twice as long for a lower skill runner (it was for me, at least). There's three sections that are actively hard, imo. Crystal Peaks, which is just a really hard movement section that requires a lot of concentration for a solid like ten minutes, the Isma's Tear skip section, and the Hornet 2 fight.

you should use colour key for static keying like with livesplit (it's a bit lighter to run, I believe), but any cosy, opposite of vibrant colours without much mash with timer and icons should work all fine

Hey, sorry, I asked in #hk-help and was pointed to here - I'm on 1.2.2.1 on Windows 10 rn, and I'm having a very strange behaviour with my steam controller. It functions properly for the few seconds before the steam notification that its configuration has been loaded, and then ceases. The controller still works in steam itself, and my setup has the "Gamepad" configuration for the controller with 1.2.2.1 added as a non-steam game.
Is this a common issue/does this have a known solution, or does anyone have any suggestions? Would any other info be helpful? I followed the downpatching guide as best I could from speedrun.com, using the depotdownloader method

i found that really helpful for me and because of that i got sub 58 on my 3rd try (first was 2.5 hours second was 1.5 hours and now i did 57.something)
i found ways to get the geo really fast and the pale ore is really close (also after upgrading my nail i save quit to king station
(thats on any% nmg)

So, I did some more investigating. I figured out how to disable steam input and such, no effect; but while I was testing, I noticed another time at which the controller works: in the time between clicking the button to open the controller config panel, and when said panel actually opens! This just keeps getting weirder!
(By the way since I haven't said it yet, thank you thank you thank you to everyone who's had suggestions so far)
I wonder what that time, and the time between plugging in the controller and it loading the config, have in common - the config not having loaded, maybe? Or being interrupted? I wonder what would happen if I found a way to launch the game without having steam open? (for some reason it's opening steam automatically when I use the downpatched exe)

The Xbox x controllers are really solid. I’ve played a ton of hollow knight on mine and my dpad hasn’t shown any sign of wear while my Xbox one controllers dpads started to break down after 50 hours or so

Practice cdashing out of a dash on a random wall until you have good feel for getting the cdash without losing height then try the actual trick with that feeling in mind

for failed champion make sure EVERY one of your initial shade souls double EVERY time, for everyone you miss thats 8 nail hits. In addition practice getting triples on the next phases because they're movement becomes more erratic in the later phases. Avoid learning dnail strats until you're comfortable. To skip ahead to practice getting triples, increase your nail damage.
