Hi. I tried asking in #archived-modding-help , but I understand they might be busy with something else or unable to answer, so I try my luck here. I'm learning Any%, and I want to try out seeing healthbars and hitboxes with debug mode(game version 1.2.2.1, mod version 1.3.3). But whenever I try turning on hitboxes or healthbars, nothing happens visually. The debug log does state that hitboxes or healthbars got enabled though, so something happens. Am I missing something/doing something wrong?

I believe the debug mode ones only show up when you pause iirc, but I've never experienced downpatch debug so idk

both of those features are pretty bad on the debug mod
the hitboxes are a disaster and the hp bars work most of the time but only if you have the enemy HP menu up
you can install this additional hitbox mod to see collision hitboxes though

you can turn the mod off, wait for the boss spawn and then turn the mod on, and it'll show boss hitbox, but it's real uncomfy. And even then it will disappear sometimes

it mostly comes down to the huge time saved in the 4th room (-0.77s). the 1st room is a bit slower than on 1221 (about +0.3s), but kal actually managed to just barely beat his best 2nd and 3rd rooms (-0.09s total). insane considering no invdrop at the end of 2nd room

If you feel like you're not getting the grab, try practicing like at the beginning of this video until you feel like you're not losing height. Remember that your cdash will not start if youre too high. You want part of your eye hole in the acid. It's a little lower than it might feel safe. You can buffer a jump out to safety if you notice you're too high

As for getting off the other side, I personally like to cancel just before hitting the wall because I feel like it gives me more time to react, but some people prefer hitting it. The timing is the same.

yeah the items on the splits usually have their default in game names. the only exception is "Sly Key" Instead of "Storeroom Key"

If you’re on 1221 it’s rather precise so don’t worry about it too much. You definitely don’t need to be getting it when you’re just starting. It only saves like 4 seconds so you can save a lot more time just by practicing good movement/boss fights

There are few objective differences between keyboard and controller:
- controller at worst has at least decent ergonomy
- keyboard is easy to end up with bad technique and ergonomics, leading to heightened strain; poorly designed default layouts on popular kbs
- controller is heavily thumb focused, leading to heavy repeated stress load
- keyboard utilises more fingers, distributing repeated input stress from thumb to the rest of the fingers, and more points
So basically, whichever you're comfortable with, as long as you remember to take breaks and rest enough to avoid RSI stuff. Wrists hate not getting rest
