All the reports indicate that Discord is not profitable. Investors do not like lack of profits. So either they convince everyone that they have a path to profitablity by launching something different OR they indicate how they can get revenue from existing ones. Getting revenue from existing is much easier.

I expect discord to get extremely aggressive against non nitro/non boosted servers in a way of pushing revenue.
