There are two circumstances that it make sense to bid on both slots
-> The bids are such that one runs at the beginning of the week and one runs at the end of the week. Be careful as other people bidding can screw this up

If the ad is prompting people to join a server, people can click the ad which opens the Discord app but then cancel joining the server. This counts as a click on top.gg analytics.

How's your onboarding process for new members? It's always tough to get new people engaged when they don't have any friends in the server already.

if you're talking about the onboarding feature, I've found it to not be working and other server owners I talk to as well.. unless all of us were doing something wrong.

But when a member joins, they'll have the 5 recommended channels (including an info and reaction role channel) but nothing besides that.

Recruiting / engaging with new members is something I'm not the best with except with things like stage hosting.
Haven't nailed it on a regular join experience.

I know long ago in smaller servers I would welcome them in a general chat as they joined

Well I don't know what your server is about but I doubt empty results pages are very relevant to your server. If you aren't advertising in a slot that's relevant then you can't expect the quality of the users we send to be decent. That's like advertising hosting services to someone who's just looking for a Discord bot that can roll a dice. As you can see from your past campaigns, you had better performance with tag slots. I'd suggest figuring out which tag best relates to what your server is about and doubling down on that instead.

Also, are you bidding with your server or your custom product?

What link does the custom product send users to?

If it's a direct Discord server invite link then it's not going to work. People aren't going to join your server without knowing what it's about. Use your Top.gg server page instead and make sure your page looks attractive and has relevant information. Also make sure your onboarding experience for new users who join your server is well-refined. These are all things that can improve conversion and retention. We only sell impressions, the rest is up to you.

It takes a bit of time to play around and work out what works for you. But once you figure out who your target audience are and how to advertise to them and then get them engaged once they join your server, then it starts to show results.

I advertise my bot on Top.gg regularly and see 3x to 4x growth while my ads are live. But that's because I know what works for me, I've tried a lot of different slots and seen varying results, and my bot page is attractive and I'm advertising in a slot that's relevant to what I offer.

It's an estimation, yes, but it really really depends on your advertisement and it's contents. People are more likely to click on a moderation bot on the moderation tag (cause that's what they're looking for) versus a moderation bot on the music tag

Front page slots vary a bit because the users looking at them normally haven't searched for anything specific yet, so it's hit or miss if it's what they're looking for

At 7pm UTC on Tuesday, all ads that have been successfully fully paid are scheduled for display during the coming cycle. One hour later, at 8pm UTC, these ads start to show.

Ads are displayed in order of highest CPM winning bids until all impressions are served. If you're near the top of the leaderboard you can expect your ad to go live around the start of the cycle. If you're closer to the bottom, it'll more likely be around the weekend or as late as the following Tuesday when the cycle ends.

• If enough people vote for your bot or server per month, you have the ability to earn vote credits that you can then use for auctions.

How does the system work?

• Each month, bot monthly votes reset (midnight UTC).
• If you get 100 votes on your bot in the month, you can redeem $15 worth of voting credits (note: you can’t redeem till you actually get 101 votes).
• Any vote after 100 will be worth $1 per 1000 votes (or $.001 per 1 vote)

How do I redeem them?

The simplest way to have ads displaying all week is to bid for all the available impressions on a tag (including a pad to get 'extra impressions' at the end of the week). this is simple but not necessarily easy if other people want the tag.
Beyond that make a mixture of high and low bids on different tags. Unfortunately if someone has already placed the minimum bid on a tag, it is not possible to place a bid for latter in the week on that tag.

Depends on the slot you bid on, your ad, where it links to, your product and how useful it is to the user. There's no clear answer. I've seen different products get wildly different CTRs on the same slots for the same impressions counts just because one was more relevant to the slot than another.

Again, we don't collect data on conversion rates so we have no visibility on that. And one bot dev may see a very different conversion rate compared to another simply because of how their product is presented.

Isn't bidding in a front page more effective than a tag page contrary to #auctions-support pins? Since front pages have so much impressions, even minimum amount bids ($2.25) can get 5k+ impressions.

The ctrs are often higher on specialty tags because people are searching for something specific. If I come to the website wanting a moderation bot, but the bots on the front page aren't moderation bots, I'm most likely going to pass them by. A moderation bot on the moderation slot is more likely to catch my eye.

Impressions are one thing, but converting those to clicks and invites/joins are more important for some people.
