This is a good activity because you get practice listening, your brain is connecting spoken (or sung) language with the written language, your brain is connecting accusative case with nouns and which are which and you are learning vocab and pronunciation (largely) all at the same time

If you're going the app route, lingodeer + memrise is a better combination.

However, since you're aiming for B2 I'm guessing you need the certification itself, in which case just start grinding the B2 exam. I know someone who passed the B2 exam in 6mos, in spite of their accent being nigh incomprehensible .

Well, they said they were doing Duolingo, so my suggestion was based on that.

If they're doing a course, they could probably spam memrise/clozemaster for vocab and then quickly move on to comprehensible input (e.g: podcasts).

memrise has a nice thing where you can chat with an AI to practice aside from tons of video content, which is an additional point in its favor.

German isn't that bad. It only has a few cases and not many declensions, so if you can wrap your head around them and the wo-/da- words you've covered most of German.

What I've found to be perhaps a bit more difficult is to nail wording in German, you can build multiple grammatically correct sentences that all mean basically the same thing, but most will sound incredibly awkward to natives.

Regarding the last point, I strongly agree with that.
My infamous example is: "Ich kann nicht Englisch sprechen"
Despite being grammatically correct, it is not natural to say.

Yes, I love Babbel because of this. Helps with vocab and grammar, and has that AI partner as well. It’ll roleplay scenarios and actively respond. And the AI partner is not just text but you actually speak to it and it speaks back. It’s not live like real life, it speaks, you hold down the record button and speak, and it speaks back. But it works well

I would never accuse English of having regular pronunciation, in fact, it is probably one of the worst languages when it comes to that. I'm thankful I'm not an L2 English speaker.

I'd wager you've probably been exposed to far more English than German, which is why you have developed a certain intuition for English that you lack in German. Since I'm guessing you can't go right now, just start exposing yourself to tons of German, leave podcasts on even if you don't understand them.

Im making a big leap and changing my major from biology to German

If you want real honest advice I would not recommend biology or german as MAIN majors (you can, and I would suggest to, do either as a second major though)

There are only like 5 majors that are worth it

That’s what I’ve been told, currently I’m also thinking about maybe picking up another language department major and minoring in biology

My main deal is that I accidentally set myself up by taking German as a minor but taking enough credits to also start and finish a major

And biology started becoming too intensive for my own tastes

engineering, accounting/finance (with good specializations), nursing/med, law, and CS used to be but isnt even guarantee anymore

Those are really only good majors

Here you will actually have a harder time getting a job in those kind of positions, because they preferably want to hire people with less qualifications so the person doesn't have as high expectations of the job.

But yeah, I think so far German is the only option I have for now at least until I talk to more advisors and see what they say
