you don't "replace" bones with dynamic bones
dynamic bones are not like, a different type of bone
they are a component in unity
I don't believe IK will work on top of dynamic bones but you can try it

Stuiped question for avatar creators. What gets you to sit down and work on your avatars instead of going i could be play vrc?
The looming feeling when I'm in game knowing I could be working on something. Weighs heavy on my mind and the millisecond I get bored or I'm in between active sessions I'll work on something. Usually ends up with me just dead staring a wall on desktop with unity open on both monitors.

This is amplified if it's something on the model I'm in. Could be a broken system or just an idea for something I haven't seen before. Either way it occupies my brain like remembering a doctor's appointment.

I get bored when im trying to find/ understand the tutorial for avatars which then frustrates me when something is unclear or just doesn't work and have to walk away, is there things that need fixing oh yes differently it would probably taken 2 months of Tutorials and try and error to get my avatar fixed but atlest mine avatar looks/ runs better then when it was given to me
That's definitely a difference, in my case there is no tutorial, no video, no text walkthrough. It's just messing with what I know in ways I haven't before to make something I've never seen and then showing it off or sharing it with people.

I'm not bashing tuts, I watch even the most basic ones when I come across them because you never know what someone else might've come across. Unity is a massive program and there's always 10 different ways to do 1 thing. Maybe their method is a bit different but saves time even if it's only a second. If you do it a thousand times it stacks up.
I need work on the action wheel more and figure out the animation work for more then just something to appear, i have a weapon i want to getting working but in my mind ik it would take ages

forgive my ignorance, just really getting into vrc creation. Why is it that everyone uses and creates anime character avatars? Why not like fun animals or more creative characters?
they are lots of furry avatars in vrchat
and as far as why there is a lot of anime basically a lot of early vrchat folks utilized MMD models to make customized avatars because that was a system that had interchangeable customizable parts and MMD was anime style, and a lot of the early folks weren't skilled at modeling yet to make like original stuff

Yes, theoretically. you would have to do it after you apply the VRClens prefab, but it shouldn't be impossible.

I’ve been making everything myself right down to the simple On/Off toggles. I have templates I’ve made in the past that I can merge onto Controllers using tools like to 3.0 Manager from VrLabs else I’d copy and paste.
It’s slow though, do work I’ve already done when there are tools available that allow you to click 1 button and be done. Most tools have WD control so I’m surprised you were having that issue.
WD on/off is really just a personal choice. pretty much everything that can be done with one can be done with the other.
on makes some things easier, and off makes other things easier

Community is full of weebs and furries, both of which have individuals with considerable amounts of disposable income ready to commission avatars that they like, both communities happen to have fairly generous artists/modelers that create avatars for free, public use.
A consistent, coherent art style makes for better models, you don't need trillions of triangles/polygons to make a good looking avatar
That still won't stop trolls/crashers ofc, and there's plenty of us learning to 3d model that have to work on topology and optimization, just to be fair
It also has to do with the fact everyone uses Toon shading so realistic looking characters look super out of place and sometimes disturbing
because it's too easy to hit the uncanny valley when you're effectively stylizing something while trying to keep it realistic
You gotta consider it from a practical standpoint, it's much easier to model a stylized furry or anime model from scratch, texture it, rig it, and so on, as opposed to create something much more realistic with textures that work and are consistent...
I do like models with realistic shading when it's done well and the worlds lighting setup supports it.
But everyone go's with toon shading because it's easier and looks better across different worlds lighting setups.
it's also easier to hide modeling errors with a toon Shader

and also probably lots of folks who most of their knowledge before they started modeling was doing stylized 2D art so probably wouldn't have the knowledge to do a photo-realistic human

sdk2 avatars still work the same as they used to. It's literally just an SDK3 thing

Pretty sure that is just a thing that your avatar will do if you have toes mapped in the unity rig

Can cut a symbol or name into the wireframe. People never check that and you’d just need a way to see the wireframe in game.
well no method is 100% reliable
Any example of that sort of thing is pretty easy to delete, if you have any understanding of blender/unity

Though if you only stick it inside the head and then they do a head swap, it’s gone.
With all this being said though I reckon 95% of the time I see anything that’s stolen or leaked, the credits to the original creator are still there. It’s pretty rare that people will go and try and find the credits to remove them especially if it’s pulled from vrc.

That depends on a model. Each model has different blendshape name convention. A blendshape that control eye movement may not exist at all.

if you're playing on desktop rather than VR, you probably won't be able to use the weapons properly
There are workarounds though. You could probably use animations and constraints to make your arm stick out forwards and follow your head so you can aim.
Though, that won't work for avatars you didn't create obviously.

Very likely you are missing the Dynamic Bones paid asset from the Unity store.
Which at this point is kind of silly to buy since the VRChat replacement is in beta, but if you want to upload that avatar without buying and be on the live client, you would need to remove the scripts from your avatar that the error points out

I've been looking at getting into making avatars for myself for a while and a lot of online tutorials just don't seem to make too much sense and many people create their avatars in different ways. I'm just wondering what might be the simplest way to start getting myself into making some elaborate avatars for myself? I appreciate any kinds of help.

I'm pretty sure they start from the beginning and only your synced variables (the one on your Parameters Menu) will be synced~
Remember that that does not guarantee that the final state will be the same~ (but most of the times it does)

Hi! Did anyone ever occurred ... idk 'static fbx'? (I dont know how to call this)
I have a prefab and the fbx feels ... 'static'. When i delete a mesh in blender and safe the fbx the object with the skin mesh renderer is still in the fbx and states 'missing mesh'. When i add a mesh, it wont show up in unity - i have to create an empty object and add the mesh within the skinned mesh renderer. Materials also dont update automatically ... everything stays as it is.
This wont be a problem, i mean i can add and delete everything manually ... BUT ... as soon as i add bones to my armature, all meshs disappear ... and i have no idea how to bring them back ... any ideas?

i mean, you shouldn't be unpacking
if you don't unpack then replace the fbx file (do it in windows explorer) it should update like you expect
it 'should' ... but it doesnt :< ... wether packed or not :/ ... but its third party i didnt made this avatar prefab ... The only solution i came up was adding the extended armature also via unity ... so i have 2 fbx, 2 armature, unpack them both and combine them ... which is super scuffed and not very performant ... but I cant help me qwq~
ah yeah if the avatar is a prefab it will also not update
it needs to be a mesh prefab (drag and drop the fbx into the scene but don't save it as a prefab)

the problem is - i need to use the prefab ... because the prefab is ... as far as i can tell ... already edited. It is an avatar which uses Final IK. So for example the legs arent where they should be according to the fbx armature structure ... they are found somewhere completly diffrent in some container ... this whole thing is damn complex ... i'd rate myself as intermediate experienced ... but this avatar is brainfuck ... (but damn cool)

yes, that's the typical workflow
Blender for modeling, rigging, weight painting, UV unwrapping, and shape keys. for texturing you can either use Blender's texture painting, a 2d image editing program, or better yet, Substance painter. once you have a finished model, you can then bring it to Unity to set it up for vrchat and upload it

Yeah, I got lucky that when I wanted to start uploading in 2018 I was really close to unlocking the privileges already it took only 4 more hours and I was actually able to afk mine but I defs know that doesn't work anymore

The best way to unlock upload privs is go to a public world, talk to some trusted users (purple shield) and ask them to friend you so you can unlock your uploading privileges. Most will be nice and understanding and help out
That will give you a massive trust boost because it's based on friends more than time being active

This really depends on how much of them you want to show when your character speaks, as you would be creating the blendshapes for visemes

You need to play VRChat for a little while, a few hours, several hours, many hours, it's not the same for everyone. If you want to immediately upload, you can pay the $10usd for VRC+

Could it be a blend shape? I've had times where a stray vertex in a blend shape would stretch out the bounding box
none, quest doesn't do transparency for avatars. If you need some of the mesh to be missing on the Quest, you remove it in blender.

Ssoo. I have the Nicoreda Protogen here. And when I make fists, the toes clench too. But there's nothing referencing it within Unity... and the animations, albeit confusing me, are clean.
Clean as in: hands animations only carry hand Keyframes. Toes animations only carry toe keyframes. I also can't find anything in the Animators that would call on Toe clench on Gesture 1.
The only time the toes are called on are within a menu for Toe control

Okay. Found the issue!
Now on to another thing: A blend tree doesn't quite work in VRC. But works perfectly nice in Unity.
It blends between 4 different animations. The left and right blend works. The up and down blend does not.
double check the parameter names in your controller aswell as your parameters file
and check where you created the puppet menu to make sure you selected the correct parameters
I figured it had to be something about the naming conventions actually since it's working in Unity. Everywhere I checked it's lining up okay though. When I switch the Parameters in the Blendtree the animations work but I still can only active left and right, no up and down

CATS is not compatible with blender 3.1
the Dev version is somewhat compatible with 3.0
but the main version is only compatible up to 2.93.8
think of it more as like an FBX export preset
it's the same exporter as blender, but with all of the correct export setting already applied for you
like the FBX scaling, and disabled Leaf bones
at the end of the day, some settings don't matter too much, but the really important part is being consistent
exporting with different export settings over an existing model can fuck stuff up
and will typically require you to reset pose in the avatar definition and in the scene
my recommendation: use CATS export, and always use it lol
then don't use the steam version
or go to the properties and tell steam to not update it

what matters is the amount of material slots on your meshes
every mesh you have has a certain amount of slots
if you have a mesh with one slot, and you separate a part of it, you now have 2 meshes, and 2 material slots

also, splitting off meshes isn't the only way to toggle stuff
you can also have stuff weighed to an extra bone, and you can scale that bone down to hide it
Blender automatically removes unused material slots that aren't assigned to any part of the mesh on export IIRC.

Provided you are only using a diffuse texture. You'll have to do some manual work if you've got extra textures like normal maps and emission maps.

Don't use furry avatars in public instances lol, that's just asking for a hater to block you.
Getting blocked reduces your trust as well, so it's generally something you want to avoid or you might de-rank. But most of the time it's not a problem unless you are being mass-blocked by multiple people in a short time frame though.
Then stop using furry avatars-

@bold ocean The tail could be controlled in a radial puppet, in the menu rather. Check if that's the case. Also, make sure to go to settings and disable the limit for dynamic bones.

the current release of the SDK will not work in 2018, so if you ever want to use new features, you will need to update or upload new avatars with the current release

The parameter type that you use doesn't matter for whatever you're animating, they don't go hand in hand. Boll, Int, Float, they all work just with different setups

Oh you mean Lower and Raise Eyes. These aren't required if you don't have blendshapes for them

I know blender has a tool to halve the amount of polygons in a region you select
The "proper" way is to manually remove edge loops and stuff so you can keep the detail where its needed. Alternatively there are tools and modifiers like the blender cats plugin or decimate modifier which can automatically do it - but results vary from being passable to it screwing joints and stuff up
Well, Im currently making my avatar from scratch, so I might as well add them. Should the viseme just be each respective lid raising/lowering? Or should eye movement also be included? (though Id assume that adding the eye movement might screw up any sort of eye tracking?)

something I noticed with roughness is it seems less like the reflections are being blurred and more like the cubemap is being blurred then projected in the world, like someone took the cubemap into photoshop, increased the blur on it, then put it on a cube in game, and it makes roughness on an avatar really hard to tweak

For whatever reason when you try to animate a material swap on element 4, when previewing the animation or at runtime, it will swap on element 2 instead. As far as I know you can’t fix this, you can only avoid it by having element 4 be a material you don’t plan on animating with a material swap, ever.

Just because 2019 loses LTS, doesn't mean we will get an immediate switch to 2020, it could still be next year that we finally get a move to it.

Likely the team has been working with 2020 to see if things work, as a low priority project, but we won't know until someone says so. I guess it is possible that you could try running Unity in the compatibility layer that Apple has to use old programs, if it's supported.

I'm getting The signed in account doesn't have access to the blueprint associated with your VRC_Avatar(or Scene)Descriptor when trying to upload an avatar, and when I exit play mode, the SDK gets logged out. I've double and triple checked that before trying to upload, but it still gives me this error. I've also tried re-importing the SDK.

yea that's a good point. can you override parts of the original animation that way right? like modifying the afk animation for example
you can replace animations, or play on top of them
but cant edit the originals
but if your adding tail/wing/ear animations, add those in gesture or fx layer
completely separate from locomotion logic
then if you want them tied to locomotion, you can use the same parameters (VelocityXYZ) and a blendtree to blend between animation clips

So I have been trying for some time this month but it doesn't work. Has anyone else added seats to their avatar recently? When I add one to mine my avatar never loads when I switch to it in game.

I'd say if it's a chair toggle you're making, try getting it to work without being toggled. I've had toggles break my chairs , but that was in 2.0 so I'm no longer sure, but could still be an issue.

the sdk is fine, you have something else causing the problems
It looks like you are using the AD beta, not the live sdk. The AD beta needs a couple of new packages from the Unity package library, which are supposed to be downloaded when you import the SDK, but won't be imported if you are not signed into Unity so it can access the Unity asset repository. If you are wanting avatars for the live version of the game, you should be using the SDK from the website and should remove and import the version from there
I figured it out in the past and just disabled meshes instead of toggling the seat but now it’s doing this. Just wanted to see if it’s just me or if it’s a new problem.
Can someone help me with this? If you want to help, the error is it wont let me upload my avatar because it says a shader "Standard" isn't for quest and pc avatars but all the materials on the avatar are Toon Lit which is a texture provided in VRChat/Mobile.

this may be a stupid question but has any of the VRChat peeps made it to where you can use boolean modifiers and Lattice Deformations of meshes?
you might have to start looking through stuff in the armature, some prefabs of stuff will be parented to a bone instead of roaming free as a mesh, so you need to go through any armature items as well
or just filter by material and look through everything there thats inside a folder, although then you dont know what ur changing
