I just recently got a quest 2, I downloaded vrchat and created an account but everytime it tries to load me into the game I get the same message saying something about a server time out or that I lost connection. I factory reset it and nothing changed. It only worked when I used my hotspot instead of my wifi but I'd much perfer my wifi, how do i fix this? I'm not even sure if it's a error with vrchat, my quest, or my wifi.

It is unlikely to be something on your friend's end and all they can really do is wait.

Youtube either updated on their end to break yt-dlp, which vrchat relies on, or youtube flagged your friend's ip for using yt-dlp.

i've been having some issues tracking my right index finger(top trigger button, dont know the name)

The capacitive sensing is just not being triggered, when it happens I generally clean it on a towel or something and if that doesn't work I just tap it lightly over and over again, I assume that causes it to recalibrate.
Sometimes nothing helps though, probably related to moisture on my hand or something.

Idk if anyone has a solid answer, but I figured I'd ask. Does anyone know how to fix the "too many avatars" issue on quest 2? My partner can't afford a quest 3 and it's getting frustrating for her. It is the entire trigger as far as I know, something conductive on the backside of it that can vaguely detect your finger through the plastic.

@edgy lantern If you make an instance, the instance is created with the version of VRChat that the owner is on, so say the owner is on version 1, then the instance is on version 1.

If someone updates VRChat and joins the instance, it may or may not break the game.

• If it doesn't break the game, this means the data being sent over the network is still the same. So maybe this update only changes the text on buttons. That data is never sent to the server, so it won't break anything.
• If it does break the game it may be because something is being sent differently. Maybe the way your hand movement is synced has changed to sync with more precision, so the data it sends is different.

Since the data is different, it will get all messed up and put the wrong information in the wrong places, which can cause bugs at best and crashes at worst.

To prevent this from happening, when an update that affects data being sent over the network happens, VRChat only lets people who all are running network-compatible versions of the game play in the same instance. What version the instance is set as is based on the version the person who made this instance was running at the time of its creation.

@edgy lantern So to give you an example, say you are playing VRChat on version 1.0. You create an instance and all your friends can join. Then while you are still playing, VRChat updates to 1.1. Version 1.1 is just a small patch that changes the color of nameplates to be more consistent, so players on this updated version can still join.

Now you are addicted to VRChat in this example so you stay in the same instance with your friends until VRChat updates again to version 2.0. In this version, the data being sent is not the same and will cause a crash if you join. One of your friends updates their game and gets online. They cannot join your instance because if they join, they will crash. This is what is happening to you.

In order to join an instance, you need to join one that was created by someone on the same network version as you, or create one yourself. Since the game doesn't boot you off whenever it's updated, many players are still online when the update happens, making all instances immediately locked for players who updated their game.

Eventually, after a day or so, these instances will close, while at the same time, more people start updating their game and creating instances you join. Once all the old instances are gone, this will no longer be a problem, people will just have to update their game in order to play.

Done in a normal game, it might be fine as it could be isolated to limited amounts, but with how VRC content is, where anyone can upload anything, its problematic.

Idk, I was a regular Quest user like 2 years ago and the improvements that VRC has made in that time to Quest have been AMAZING and well-needed
Back then, regardless of what you did your game crashed every 10 minutes because your headset's CPU or iGPU would get overwhelmed and your headset would overheat and click off
Or you would run out of memory and your game would crash
I'm assuming VRC devs (who are smarter than us on this BTW) have identified certain shaders (that were never allowed in the first place) as additional reasons for crashing or bad performance so they got rid of them

I run a Quest compatible group, I think anything that makes people crash less on Quest is a welcome addition

I just got a quest 3 today with a link cable. 2 problems I keep running into.

1. The link keeps disconnecting. I have to keep manually re-enabling the link to my pc.
2. It’s caused my pc to freeze twice in the space of an hour. No blue screen, no reboot, just a straight freeze that makes me have to manually restart the whole pc. Has anyone run into either of these issues before?

i tried cleaning it as another user recommended to, didnt really help much, any internal reason as to why it wouldnt track my index finger right?

When I turn my headset on my right hand moves into place fairly quickly and then my left hand might take 5 mins of just being off to the side, moves into place then drifts for abit, then stays in place like I can’t move my hand at all and sometimes after I fix it by restarting the headset it’s “fixed”.

Also it gets the “controller is getting warm will shut down in 5 mins if it doesn’t change” but it’s not even warm or hot just room temp

Android version is very limited and has many quality reductions to be able to be run by mobile devices like the Quest and phones.

PC version is just standard vrchat, but can be very heavy on computers

It does not.
VRChat relies on SteamVR to make hand tracking work and Meta doesn't make it easy/possible to even access the hand tracking data, pretty sure you can only use it for developing Quest games, any games on the PC store with hand tracking get denied.

people can lock you out of your menu if they use a client to modify the world's udon scripts

i've had that happen to me, i was in a public and someone joined on a client and they were able to repeatedly teleport everyone to the same spot and temporarily disable their audio

since you were constantly being teleported it made it impossible to move, look around, or use your menu; it teleported you a few times a second so it was clear that was what was happening but the window of time between teleports was too short to actually do anything

i'm not saying that post was true though those go around all the time

and there's no permanent damage to worry about just annoying people that might interrupt your game

worst-case scenario is avatar ripping but that happens all the time anyways and vrchat is working on making it harder

Hi guys, I need some help with a problem , When playing VRChat on my quest two in standalone I get a low memory error and no avatars of other players load, just blue diamonds. This issue started a few days ago and has gotten worse to the point where the game is unplayable. I cleared the in game caches and also the caches via settings/storage in the Quest settings , I have reinstalled the game , nothing has fixed this issue. Any ideas why my RAM is suddenly filling up so fast?

The only thing I can think of is duel accounts? There are two accounts on the headset.

Also in friends and world lists no images load, just the 'no image' image.

Nope, rolling updates mean getting an update and installing it doesn't mean you actually get every feature/change in the update, some are just disabled and may or may not, almost randomly, be enabled everytime the headset boots up.

The camera dolly has always been advertised to be a vrc+ feature, so best to assume it always will be.

no reason not to switch, but it looks the same on quest and PC. It isn't replacing any shaders so you won't lose anything

it looks pretty good also. It allows for much more toon style shading while also allowing for PBR maps and actually responding to lights

there are many features, some of which are entirely new to quest, and many quality-of-life changes like masks for different features, being able to choose which channel they are packed to, etc

you also can set it up in a way that it looks exactly like toon lit or matcap lit, and you can even combine the two with masks and add more features all in one material (as well as being able to animate most of these features in intensity and disable them)

I know this isn’t a vrchat issue but I don’t know where else to ask for help ive been trying for 2hrs now. I’ve uninstalled the meta app on my pc and reinstalled. I’ve factory reset my headset. At first it was stuck on the pcvr loading screen now steam vr isn’t finding the oculus app and it’s not letting me restart the meta quest link, it worked fine for 2 years and now it’s just acting up all a sudden.

The only things I done in the past to fix SteamVR is uninstall, reinstall.

A few tips for other issues are, run antivirus, reset modem, and check and verify for corrupted files in command prompt.

You can also verify your game files in Steam app for SteamVR.

There are many different forks of space calibrator, you might have downloaded an older version.
I'd recommend getting it from steam instead, since it was released there a few months ago and is the most up to date version.

Happens to people every now and then, seems to be a mix between VRChat update and Quest update, although it doesn't appear to ever affect everyone, so likely cause would be Meta's rolling updates that enable features randomly, thereby eating up more RAM.
Don't think there is any fix you can do, you just have to wait until the balance changes again.

i mean you have to have the unencrypted files on your GPU in order to render them, but it's not going to be the whole avatar, just the model, so you don't really get something super usable out of it
