One thing I am familiar with though, is apparently with one of the mods you can use to search for avatars, If an avatar you made was ever public, even if it's private now, it still shows in the avatar search and loads into the preview, which can then put it out there for individuals to rip the files since it is now in their cache

So in trying to rationalize how the new potential client works, (GameTheoryInbound) It takes that avatar from the cache after the individual creator has loaded into it completely, and replicates it in a similar fashion onto your account as if you were the creator. Because at the end of the day, the private option just disables the ability to clone through normals means, just like how beforehand with a different client you could force-clone public avatars, whether cloning was turned on or off, so I think it works similarly but on a much wider scale

I mean it's not that hard. If you like the avatar, and you have it favorited, you can click the details tab when you've loaded into it to see the avatar creator. Then, when you see who made, and you see if they've made any worlds - you can visit those worlds for possible contact information

@halcyon dome my private avatar has two versions. In publics i only use the limited version. If someone rips it they may have the texture and the base (which is available for free anyways lol) but not all the features i put in because these are on a different version. Only the base look is available on the limited version. And they could also get a tiny bit more limited version of my avatar through my public ones as they just are recolors and only are missing 2 other things.

Can't really avoid ripping unfortunately. Can only make it harder and even if you never use it technically it still would be possible to get the files of the avi. They would have to rebuild it so better implement stuff that makes it as much of a pain in the ass as possible.

If you were the one who uploaded it, and you don't want other people to have it, upload it as private

It is not intended for preventing avatars from going viral. It won't stop it.

Login with your Oculus account and click the "Upgrade account" button in the Settings, it will give you instructions. You can also ask here for help. After you migrate to a VRChat account make sure to only log in with VRChat, as all your friends and avatars will be moved over there.

You are able to log into VRChat with an oculus (aka Facebook) account or make a native VRChat account that can log in from anywhere. The second one has more abilities (like uploading personal content)

Go to your safety settings and disable BOTH options for shaders, effects, and particles for EVERYONE!

Visitor, new user, user, EVERYONE! Even your friends.

That should stop the vast majority of crashers and avoid 70% of spam. I also suggest hiding Visitor rank avatars by default as they are the most likely to cause problems, plus is saves a lot on processing and data bandwidth. You can always show anyone's avatar if you want by clicking on them.

Another tip is to avoid certain worlds. The more popular a world is the more likely it is to be targeted by some clown. The Black Cat and Pug bars are great at meeting a lot of people fast, but you will run into a bad egg sooner rather than later. Iv found that bar themed worlds tend to have the worst communities. Home based worlds are hit/miss, but are often better and more relaxed with people talking to each other instead of just gimmick.

Have any devs mentioned any work being done on the horrible and worsening audio 'Click-Click-Deaf' bug? It's been getting so bad lately. My entire friend group was constantly restarting the whole night. I had it happen at least 6 times last night in the span of 6 hours

am I the only one who thinks that quest fallback avatars just makes it more confusing for when PC and quest users interact?
because when it's just the gray robot, for quest users it's like "oh, they have a PC only avatar and thats why I can't see them"
but if people can choose random quest-compatiable avatars as a fall back, now PC and Quest see two completely different avatars
