Face tracking is a premium feature as far as headsets go. Face tracking will be coming to mobile, but you'll be limited to whatever mobile is capable of (which is less than Quest atm).

Indeed. There's extra hardware required for it, as well as R&D for the software that powers it.

Most avatars have simulated eye tracking, which allows you to "look" at other people with an adjustable range of blinking or glancing away occasionally (adjustable in Unity, sadly not in-game afaik) and Visemes are pretty good, so you'll still get a decent experience from one without.

Also keep in mind you will need additional trackers if you want to pick up your legs or have hip movement (you can estimate hip movement with some headsets/software, though).

Let's look at it this way: If VRChat was a paid game like WoW, it'd probably be worse right? The entire game would be paywalled.

VRChat literally has no other revenue streams, or at least significant ones, to my knowledge. Buying VRC+ is a way for VRChat to remain alive and grow their software.

So while it may suck that some features are paywalled, and I agree about how VRC+ should extend features, consider the amount of features and access you already have from the free portion of the game.

Also, you may think it's harmless to have 1 group for free, but consider groups with tens of thousands of members:

Each member needs to be sent notifications or get data (network bandwidth, processing, database). Really, there's a lot of exponentially scaling features because of the cross section of groups and users. The whole big-O-notation thing you learn in CS is a very real thing.

Oh yeah, the numbers:

If you give people 10 more groups than 100, it's 10 times your number of users. Which lets say is 540,000, it'll be 5,400,000 more transfers or processing, which isn't just 1 thing, it's multiplied by the number of features the group has.

It also works inversely from the group creation perspective and how many users they will have. Every new user is actually increaseing it by however features the group has and how much processing/data it requires.

I guess it is possible to gaslight yourself into believing you can feel things you see, but youll have to manually imagine the feeling instead of your brain automatically doing it for you

but Phantom Sense isnt really a thing that a lot of people actually have. and never to the extent a lot of people claim

how to tell if someone is faking phantom sense: they can "feel" things they can't directly see. they claim to be able to have other phantom senses like phantom taste phantom smell phantom etc, phantom pain can be real, but its less physical pain more just a dramatic response to traumatic memories, as in the feeling of being choked, shot, stabbed, etc

tho phantom pain is VERY centralized to the trauma zone, and takes quite a bit of immersion to have the memories flood back. Phantom pain is also pretty much ONLY tied to trauma

Usually this is your own bad internet, but it can also be VRChat's bad internet.
As far as I am aware, all the avis and worlds sit in a static content delivery network, and this occasionally slows down for various reasons, usually the "upstream provider"

WoW is a subscription, that was kind of my point, to contrast WoW (a game that requires a subscription to play) to VRC (is free for the majority of its features, and the VRC+ benefits generally only enhance the experience). VRC could also totally include some sort of long-term benefits to subscription to VRC+, like free VRC Credits every few months or something.

I feel like right now. The quest 3 is your best bang for your buck headset! it’s not lightweight, but it’s also not very heavy. The lenses and displays are really good. I’m not even concerned about them being micro OLED yet considering how expensive and niche those displays are. I would love for meta to re release the oculus line as like a high-end PCVR lineup. I feel like a quest 3 with some really nice micro OLED panels and a lossless wired connection would sell pretty well!

The lenses in the 3S are the exact same as the Quest 2. As in, they used left overs from the Quest 2 to make the 3S. CPU is a little better, but imo not worth the upgrade. If you connect both to a PC, you probably wouldn't know the difference.
The 3 (no S) though, is a whole different ball game. Dramatically better lenses.

Feedback: I moderate several karaoke groups so I have to deal with children disrupting adult spaces very often. I definitely think VRChat needs some form of age verification and am in favor of the idea. I for one welcome the verification with open arms. A social platform such as this that regularly introduces strangers to one another needs this intensive of an age verification. It has been needed since the beginning, even more so since VRC was introduced to a wider audience with its release on Quest. Keeping children out of adult online spaces is extremely important for their safety, and a government issued ID and face scan is the level of security that needs to happen to keep them safe. Anything less such as credit card or just ID scanning would provide insufficient insurance that the user is who they say they are, and haven't grabbed their parent's card or something similar.

Additionally, I do hope that allowing one's child to use their account after age verification is punishable with a ban.

And coupled with the crackdown on public such instances, this will leave them, and us, in a very uncomfortable place.

It is not entirely clear to me if this will be persisted by vrchat. In which case, the full chain of getting fucked on this will look like: you verify today because otherwise you can't hang with friends. VRC sells in 4 years time to facebook. About that age verification thing, Persona is not a good company to choose. I hope this gets repealed. Honestly just do what recroom does, ID verification and alternate personas don't go together. People like anonymity, if they didn't they would just use horizon worlds.

Also everyone knows what's going to happen once it's implemented, it'll creep in everywhere else, like locks nsfw avatars for those who want to explore things while remaining private.
I'm not against age verification, but I am against one that doesn't allow only the age to be showed through ID.
