I believe steam counts the time the game been running, while NMS counts the time when it's in focus
save time is more accurate but I imagine most people don't leave the game sitting in menus
So probably steam if I had to choose one, especially if save and reload a lot
What if I leave nms running in the background for far too long?
Depends how you "leave" it in the background
Like I leave it running overnight and while I'm doing the things I'm supposed to be doing...
If you alt tab so that it's not in focus, iirc the game do not count the time it is out of focus, but steam still do

I personally have like 200 hours discrepancy between my saves and my steam play time
I think I have a 450-500 hour discrepancy...
Ps I also have a gog copy for exploring purposes, so if I play on that, the time is completely hidden

the game really dislikes being out of focus on some systems and likes to hang infinitely on mine if I keep it alttabbed too long, forcing me to altF4 it

Not really, you can try filling it with a bunch of upgrades, but even then there will still be some parts in there

Thankfully I don't have that issue, I alt tab all the time and can't remember the last time it crashed or hung on me like that
But I play on borderless windowed mode, not sure if that changes anything
I also play borderless on any game that allows it as I like to tab out (single monitor), only NMS hates it
a mod keeps my game unpaused when tabbed, very handy for waiting for refiners

Steam also appears to be having issues calculating my play time

While your cursor is over the metal plate, you can use a/d to change the number crafted
Oh, that's been glitchy for me, and sometimes it doesn't show that option
Pressing a/d isn't too much better, 8 prefer using auto keys for that
I noticed a bug as well, I put 2 quantum computers in my freighter upgrade and didn;'t finish upgrading, and when I relogged they are gone
same as my solar mirrors in a different freighter upgrade
No idea, often I put that down to misunderstanding how the game presents what materials you put in
If you put in the quantum computers, and you have none left in your inventory, the upgrade screen will show you don't have any, but the game won't ask for it (pulsing blue box)
I would craft the rest of the upgrade, put those in, see if that completes it
Could just be a minor display issue

I need some help or advice not really sure lol. I've been playing for a month now maybe less, kinda just started normal and took off. Have completed the game storyline and am now looking online as to how I make my ships and multi tool op. I can't seem to get the DMG output over 90k and the ships speed and maneuverability over 900 ish. I'm on switch 2 and prefer not to just go to creative mode
stats in the ship/multitool screen are misleading, ignore
the method is still the same, slap as many S + X class upgrades with highest rolls you can get onto whatever you want maxed, supercharge the highest number one (except boltcaster, which needs core tech super'd)
The DPS stat on each individual weapon for ships is more accurate than the ships damage stat
One thing to note, S class upgrades in my experience all have better stats than X but that could just be a luck thing

X can roll better than S or worse than C

your adjancy bonuses are terrible, see the image from the bot
TLDR the more upgrades of the same type an upgrade is touching, the bigger the bonus
I just moved the phase beam and infra knife to be against their mods
You might need to fiddle around a little, sometimes with the same location but swapping two upgrades, the stat goes up
My super charge slots are all over on this one
I would make the phase beam into a block, not a line like you have
Also, I would stick to one weapon and not have that many, unless that's what you are deliberately doing to stop the corvette parts tech
And don't use phase beam unless you have 6 phase beam turrets installed on your corvette

also the game has that weird enemy health scaling based on your current damage values to stop enemies from being too squishy so don't sweat it too much
my interceptor destroys ships in 1-2 passes which is fast enough for me
Remove warp drive for blue systems, atlantid allows you to access to all system so blue one is useless and takes tech slot
It's not that useless, they can give adjacency bonus to warp drive tech that further improves your fuel efficiency and range, but certainly low priority
I use it on my sentinels, my tech slots are barely half filled otherwise so may as well, corvettes there are definitely better things to use, e.g. medusa reactors
(or whatever the reactor that gives fuel efficiency and warp range is)

It's the other one. Not the actual weapon. Doesn't have a class on it just the weapon mod

Artemis path quest is the one that gives the glyphs, not atlas

When you were warping 16 times, did you wait a minute each time you were warping, or did you warp immediately after finishing warpjng
🤷♂️ put in a bug report then, each of the 16 warps in Purge is supposed to give you a glyph
yea after the 12 it just stopped giving them to me

If you warped too quickly after each warp, you will prevent the conversation that gives the glyphs from triggerinv

The best way to solve this is to check each space station and trade outpost to see if they have travellers
anyway since Purge seemingly didn't give you the glyphs, traveller graves
Each traveller gives you the location of their grave, each of those graves gives a portal glyph
the game has failsafes for practically everything, there's no way to softlock yourself out of any content
That I am not 100% sure, but since every planet has multiple types of metal hotspots, it may seem rarer than gasses that don't have as many options

I forgot freighters don't have upgrade slot shops like most ships. ☠️ I deadass almost said someone was wrong.
It is not, because the maximum capabilities of freighters do not depend on its size, only it's starting capabilities, i.e. the tech and cargo slots
B class capital freighter, when upgraded to its maximum, would be, in most cases, inferior to A class small freighter, when it is fully uograded
It also improves the stat bonus for expedition, which is pretty large when comparing say a C to an S class, it completely changes how easy it is to cap out the stats, but A and S probably don't matter that much as there is already plenty of headroom with an S
What's the biggest community planet?
Hey fellas, big dumbo here. I'm new to NMS, coming from E:D background. I know two games are pretty much apples and oranges apart from the shared space aspect, but I got a question - just how prominent is base building in this game? I generally suck at base building, I don't like it, never did (Not even in Minecraft). Is this sort of a hard requirement for the game, or can I treat it like I do E:D where I buy a bunch of ships, upgrade them, and do different stuff like exploration etc?
The latter, base building is fairly basic in the game, most of them are for resource extraction, the base itself is mostly cosmetic only, not a lot of functional stuff
Most of the crafting are done in the inventory directly
Base Building isn‘t an absolute “You have to do this or you‘ll the stuck and not be able to do anything at all!!”
It‘s more of - Have a skeleton base, for your Campaign, since you do need to build a couple things for it, and it is suggested to have a place to be able to settle down without building a Corvette/ having a Freighter

They share between Corvettes, Freighters, and Bases
So lets say for example, you throw 30 stacks of Ferrite into a corvette‘s Storage Container, you go up to your Freighter and it‘ll be there too.
Think of them like Ender Chests

And I went in and says it was C Class which isnt really good but where else do I get a side quest like that to get a better Freighter?

The second ever freighter rescue mission you encounter will be better than the freighter in your first rescue, after that you will need to try your luck at rolling for better freighters in a few ways
One is the same way you encountered that rescue, warp 5 times, but this cannot happen more often than once every 3 hours, just make sure that your 5th warp end in a system with a level 3 economy for best results
How do I check if it has lv 3 economy?

Another is warping into outlaw stars. 20% of all outlaw stars (and 10% of all level 3 conflict stars) and guaranteed rescue events, which completely bypasses the 3 hour cooldown

It's applicable only for the first ever freighter on that save
It doesn't apply any other time
If you start a new save, encounter a freighter fight, rescue that, reject it, the encounter it again, that second freighter will be higher class than the first, this is the only time this happens, and will resume normal spawnings after that
I wouldn't argue this point beyond the starting points. A capital freighter has higher starting cargo and tech slots than a stellar freighter, so all else being equal, makes capital freighter marginally better

That I absolutely have no idea, my personal experience is that I rejected a C class and got a B the second time, i cannot confirm whether it's true for all starting classes

ok so whats going on? my planted crops timer is constantly resetting. iread this is a 7 yo bug. i noticed it today, so i replanted, and tested for 30 mins, and it seemed ok. now i go again a few hours later to check it and the timer has restarted from scratch yet again. is there a proper solution to this? do i need to entirely delete and remake the flower bed object or what? i might also add that i have modded my timers, to be 95 hours instead of vanilla 16 or what ever it is however i dont feel this is in any way the cause of issue as its been reported as a bug before

proximity prolly isnt the cause, they did grow succesfully once on normal timers
Take out the timer mods and see if they are still broke.

but its really hard to test. actually i did have a mod with shorter times working
testing 95 hrs is gona take a few days obviously. but the timer broke twice today only allowing a few mins to pass. so i can see its not modded values causing it, but the long timer may make the bug happen more often

Gunter will also tell you the ingredients, but you would need to do each ingredient if it is complex

Second, that is 0 base stat, so you were not even able to detect it being glitched when acquiring it...
I'm looking for clear understanding of how the improvement/enhancement grid works for starships, multiools and the exosuit. Specifaclly with reference to: How many enhancement modules an be applied (including suspicious/alien tech modules). Is there a good, concise source?

Those provide examples, but they're a little thin on the why/how. I see some technologies with multiple "S" enhancements modules and multiple "X" enhacnement modules. CAn all technologies support 3 of each? Those are the sorts of answers I'm looking for.
if you see x-class those are always upgrade modules - if there's 3 x-class already then anything else must be technology blueprints e.g. that s-class jetpack top rows is airburst engine. there's only a few techs that dont have upgrade modules e.g. rocket launcher, but everything that does, is always under the same limit: 3 upgrade modules of the same type regardless of class at the same time
PS the S rank on the jetpack is a blueprint technology, not actual S-rank upgrade
Blueprint technology you can have exactly one of each, as many as there are blueprints for
I'm struggling with the terminology. My jetpack gear is below. To my amateur eye, it -looks- like I've got five upgrades for the jetpack and they're all online. I think I'm hearing that 3 upgrades is the limit, so my understanding is falling short.
The text for "Efficient Water Jets" says "Jetpack Upgrade Unit". But maybe it's not an "Upgrade" in the strict game-mechanic sense?
roughly speaking, Anomaly-unlocked upgrades don't count towards the 3+3 limit
cursor over something - if it says "S-class upgrade", "class"+"upgrade", that's an upgrade module. upgrade modules cant ever be learned as a blueprint, unlike anomaly techs like rocket boots (a-class) and airburst engine (s-class). there's no need to consider class when it comes to techs
efficient water jets is another tech
e.g. if you goto the station, and buy a c-class jetpack module, and install it, you'll see that only the upgrade modules will overload
So, if the module has the text saying (for example) "A supreme upgrade for the Movement System" and the word "supreme" is colored, that's an upgrade, and I can only have three such modules for a given technology.

Thank you. How does this apply to Hazard Protection? I've got heat, cold, radiation and toxic modules that are upgrade modules. Am I limited to only 3, or 3 of each hazard type? Do those modules get adjacency bonuses? Is that bonus based on proximity to other modules of the same hazard type? Or adjacency to the Hazard Protection module?
ok I figured out the nectar islands, pretty tricky with some raw ingredients but... damn... that's insane numbers. I got from quickly jumping two systems without planning or checking planets (had some fauna-less ones) 300M units in literally 5 minutes. that's crazy numbers. also the actual bonus is shown in the ingestor so I'm going to build some bases to get eggs and syrup nectar and then just store the product.

yes, because the rule is "3 upgrade modules of the same type", and each of those hazard shields are a different type

- talk to cronus, you'll see the food market dialog option; basically a list of foods per day, turn in the requested amounts for nanites
- barely anything can compete with sus packets tech/arms strat when it comes to getting massive amounts of nanites in a short time - more options

yeah, no hassle, no fuss, chill time cooking, then just more chill while exploring making moneys. also remember that you could:
- cook the 3 types of food for +% fauna, +% flora, +% minerals
- goto a planet, ingest +% fauna, only scan fauna till it runs out or you scan all
- ingest +% flora, then only scan flora
- ..
no shortage of planets to do it in

Depends on how many you are selling, but a good habit is sell to travelling NPCs and double check their sell % before actually selling

So I found this planet which seems really weird.
It's a waterworld with no lands on it and deep oceans, but there are no atlantideum crystals or anything that would indicate that it's a dissonance planet..
not even salvagable scrap on it.. :/

[REDACTED] isn't a water world, so while it may have water on it, it will have land somewhere
It also does not have Lithium, which is another indicator that it is not a water world

I'm trying to look for sentinel interceptors in dissonant planets, this one planet I've been on had 3 ships that had the same look, do planets only have 1 type of ship looks-wise? Not sure if its worth trying to reveal more on the same planet or if I should be jumping planets

You can not recruit a living frigate if your fleet already has 30 frigates.
You can only recruit a living frigate once per system.
With Dream Aerial (Required for your first)
To obtain your first organic frigate, send out fleet expeditions until you receive a blueprint for the Dream Aerial. Craft the Dream Aerial (1 Solar Mirror and 3 Living Glass) and pulse drive in space with your ship. You will get an encounter with an organic frigate that asks many questions to determine the stats of the frigate. After you finish the questions, claim the living frigate.
Using the Dream Aerial randomizes class, which is otherwise fixed per system. The Dream Aerial is only used this first time, don't hold on to it: delete it or give it to another player that needs one.

With Anomaly Detectors
After acquiring your first organic frigate, you may now use Anomaly Detectors to acquire more. These are rare drops from blowing up asteroids.
Activate pulse drive (as stated above, use an Anomaly detector before doing so). Keep your pulse drive fueled as this may take some time depending on the system. While pulsing you may see alerts for rare objects or traders, ignore them. The Anomaly detector will be consumed if you exit pulse. Continue pulsing until you receive a Whalesong signal to discover a living frigate with these price ranges:
C-Class: 7,500,000 - 12,500,000 units.
B-Class: 15,000,000 - 25,000,000 units.
A-Class: 26,250,000 - 43,750,000 units.
S-Class: 37,500,000 - 62,500,000 units.
Known Issues:
- If you have a void egg in any of your inventories, its space encounter will keep spamming you, and can prevent you from getting the Whalesong signal encounter. To workaround this bug, retrieve the egg and store it in your suit, then go to space, pulse until hailed by the alien mothership, and select Hatch on the dialog. Ignore the Starbirth mission marker, you can now select any different mission, and return to using anomaly detectors.
- If you begin to notice any odd graphical glitches, stop and pulse in the opposite direction.

Additional Info
Feeding food to an organic frigate (freighter fleet management terminal > click on an organic frigate), will change its stats. Anything you feed a specific frigate should always reproduce that same result.
For example:
Feeding your frigate item A yields one result. Feeding it item B yields another. If you feed it item A again, it will be the same result you got the first time you fed it item A.

You can't deliberately fix it, you just have do random overseer decisions that gives positive traits, once you have 18, getting more traits will cause the game to replace the bad ones with good ones

Every planet has a type of 3-star resource, and only 1 type. Runaway Mould, Metal Fingers, or Sac Venom. Look around until you find the 3-star resource on any given planet. If it's not the one you're after, go somewhere else. Roughly 1 in 3 planets will have it
And, personally look for them on extreme radiation planets
the radiation storms will increase the amount of mould you get while you are standing in such a storm

Corvette module bonuses are a complete flustercuck, their bonuses seem to change on a whim, so basically I have stopped paying attention to what exact modules are used, only caring that modules are used at all
Infraknife also needs technology upgrades to really get it going

infra knife is high requirement high reward sort of weapon imo, once you have it with supercharged slots and maxed out S class upgrades, its the best weapon to use

Full missiles will not work, due to its long cooldown period and next to no damage to shield
Personally, I use infraknife on normal starships, and phase beam on corvettes, but PB requires 6 PB turrets (3 at the very least) to get it to REALLY work, before that, infraknife is perfectly fine even with just one turret
im using this on my starship, got lucky with 3 supercharge slots next to each other, no other weapon comes close in combat

Basically, cyclotron isn't great because it doesn't do enough damage to shields to justify its low damage against hull. Infraknife's damage on shields (which it is weak against) is much stronger than cyclotron's on hulls. Missiles are for times when you have their shields down and want to fire a volley before they fly past you kind of manuveur
where do i get superconducting fibers?
Cyclotron does disable engines, though, so you can stop enemy ships zipping about temporarily

The planet is still sort of an anomaly. No atlantideum crystals or anything related to typical dissonant worlds on the land. No salvagable scrap either. Sea glass can be found in the deep sea. Anyway I further explore the planet for more lands.

Definitely the weirdest planet I have ever explored. I might make a base on this one it even have that gravity anomaly with the particles going upwards. And 3500 nanite worth of fauna exploration reward with 14 type of animals. No man's sky is really one of a kind game. 🙂

It's 1 guild per galaxy map region, just keep warping from region to region, checking 1 station per region till you find the guild you seek. See embedded image.
Expand the star system info panel to see region data.
Ignore Outlaw and Abandoned systems as these don't have Guild Envoy NPCs.

If you know the guild in one station in the region, it will be the same in all stations in that region

It was used in a single expedition and is not available anymore in the normal game. The only people who have it either modded it in or continued that expedition save as their primary game save
the sentinel pillar one could be very difficult to solo for new players, it won't let you deactivate after taking down the 3 nodes without going through all 6 waves of sentinels including walker at the end, i learned the hard way and had to use my starship and go in and out of orbit to make it, wouldnt try it again

The freighter will require you to place where you summon it, it won't just auto pilot to your location, you need to aim up at the sky, then hit confirm button to actually summon. The freighter also need to be equipped with the proper tier of stellar drive

Can't summon a ship?
If you don't have a freighter or have more than 6 active ships, go to a base on a planet, and save+reload restore point. A quick way to update restore point is to enter+exit ship/seat.
You should now be able to quick menu/summon any of your ships, regardless of its condition.
This is a failsafe added by the devs to ensure players never lose ships in their collection.

Duplicate the ship (somehow) and remake it at the ship crafter in the rear of stations

class that drops is randomized when game spawns a ship (crashed ships sites have fixed class) and influenced by economy tier
I did that mission, it shat me out at a random planet, I summoned my smaller ship to cart me over to the corvette and I lost the Corvette beacon
And I can‘t reactivate the beacon
then like instructed in the gunter post, goto a planet base, save+reload restore point at the base, then again try summoning the damaged ship: it's a failsafe added by the devs

correct yeah, opulent is a t3 eco tier synonym, like booming
to keep it shorter, be aware that there's only 21 ship designs per suitable system - and that in non outlaw systems, there's only a 10% chance that the game proc gen replaces a shuttle for a solar sail (no other ship type can be overriden either). if you're looking for a specific solar sail combo, you might save a lot of time by just building a solar sail instead, and color customizing it then. that said, you should definitely focus on hunting in outlaw systems - solar sails will be a lot more common in those systems. type !faq-outlawsystem in #nms-commands for more infos

well, locating outlaw systems is fairly easy, with a bit of patience. solar sails are indeed good alt starter ships. that said, only keep and invest into stuff you really love the looks of, there's a lot of possible combos

Stasis device/fusion ignitor farming is the best bang for your buck as far as crafting, but takes time to set up. Stasis devices, assuming you're not refining for most of the materials, takes a minimum of 3 bases

personally, my current fav is scanning for units - out exploring, seeing nice vistas, getting near 30M per rare fauna scan, ~10M if not rare fauna. often hit 50-100M on the same planet as long as it has a few species. requires cooking. otherwise minimal investment (3 s-class modules, bottom of the barrel rolls, 1 is supercharged).
You can connect multiple chains temporarily to collect from, but they have to be separate if you are making a mine to extract multiple throsands per hour. If you're only sitting at right around 1k/hr extraction, you're fine to have everything in one group

Those are ones that provide resistance bonuses, usually to all 4 hazards. They range from 1-10%, each hazard can be different from another. Mine is high in this shot since it is in a supercharged slot on the exosuit, and all were at least 9%.

Gas extractors on planets. If you get one of them, you can get the other 2, but it takes a lot
By using either Atmosphere Harvesters (slow, must babysit) or Gas Extractors (require power/a base, but work forever and while offine/away)

There shouldn't be anything physically blocking you from lifting things with your Gravitino Coil and placing them into the flatbed
If there is, try saving and reloading? Though the only thing I can think of that'd change the collision like this would be mods on PC

Mods will definitely cause that. They've been the culprit for others experiencing collision issues where there shouldn't be. I think it was a faster exocraft mod

To find a solar ship part, you need to buy and extract parts from other solar ships. Outlaw systems is where you will find the most models in the same system

If there is not a path from the system you're in directly to the core, you're not in a gateway system. You have to be in a gateway system before you can warp through the core to the next galaxy

So i've seen a bunch of ships with the class "salvaged" in the anomaly and Google says salvages ships are Sentinel ships, but some of these look far different from most Sentinel ships i've seen. Are the S class Sentinel ships different looking compared to the rest or are they different per planet?

when dismounting a corvette that is currently rotating, that rotation isn't cleared and continues to be applied to your character even when the corvette stops rotating

Performs like azz in docked, stuttery mess impossible to hit anything with blaze javelin. Its good in handheld except for any sort of weather, that will tank the frame rate, also battery life in handheld when playing NMS is horrible. Also it has a memory leak issue iirc

i'm assuming you're playing on pc? have you tried reproducing this with a diff save? a creative mode save would be really quick to progress to unlock access to anomaly.
