It already had a higher reception. If concurrent players are a metric to indicate that, then NMS's two highest peaks were at launch and during the Voyager update when they added corvettes, though it still didn't reach launch levels.

No Man's Sky won a lot of people over and continues to do so because it is an evolving game. Those features lacking one cohesive and shared vision are mostly fine because they were gradually added after launch, and there are still new additions coming. If the game had been released as it is now, it would still be criticized, just for different things. For it to truly have had a very high and super good reception at launch, it would have had to be a very different product.

You get quicksilver from doing special missions in the anomaly that pop up every day, with an additional community mission showing up every weekend. The Nexus (the thing in the middle of the anomaly when you get there) will have a grouping of floating icons (1 to 3 of them) bobbing to the right of it if you have some available. You cannot sell anything to get quicksilver.
The quicksilver merchant npc is a static robot guy to the right of the Nexus in a little shop.

Expeditions are time limited, "seasonal" events that also sometimes have cosmetics
