also. i spent the past 24 hours in my playthrough, with C class starter ship radiant pillar, with no upgrades at all,and totally dominated every pirate boounty,every planetary attack and plundered frigate after frigate,never ever in danger,on PD mode. . this morning i bought a fighter B class,and installed 2 S class shield modules,and picked up where i left off.... IMMEDIETLY i noticed how every enemy starship now spanked the hell out of me, no matter what instance it was in or enemy. HG's, this isnt how progression in gaming works. artificially scaling enemies based on player levels is to some degree needed, but the approach to it in NMS is utter crap and lazy. just like 99% of things in this game , i ask you, what is the point of the player upgrading their ships if they get weaker????

lost my PD save last week to a bug, and again today it happened(i have back ups) but i have no interest in playing anymore. the game may have come a long way but fundamentally its seriously lacking in care from a design and maintanance approach. systems in games need to matter, nothing truly matters in NMS

If you're staying in the system, you can put down a save beacon, to mark the spot. If you're leaving that system, and not sure if you'll find your way back, put down a base computer and then you can teleport back from any space station.

I started a new PD run recently and I'm starting to think that life support is kind of a pointless feature in this game. It's just an extra bar that's always depleting from you playing the game and at the best of times it's a mild annoyance to have to occasionally recharge, but at the worst it punishes you for spending too long in one area. Like I'm trying to build my first base on this save and I've already picked up all the available oxygen from the immediate area. If I don't regularly stop what I'm doing to leave and find more I'll just die.

The more I think about it, the less sense it makes. The hazard protection mechanic is pretty much the exact same feature but better because it recharges on its own and varies based on environment

I'm pretty sure it used to work that way. I think the only difficulty that's "locked" in that way now is Permadeath.

At the very least, I keep seeing people in Relaxed mode on my travels. Sometimes, sometimes I bump into someone doing a Survival run.

Oh, and probably Creative. I imagine that one's also locked in that way.

Aside from permadeath, abandoned mode (I think), and expedition mode players, everyone can see and interact with everyone else. If one player is on a higher difficulty, they might see a planet as having hostile sentinels or fauna where a lower difficulty player might not

Adrift was such a cool expedition, I'm glad they made it a gamemode

Abandoned Universe mode actually makes a lot of tiny little progression changes since, well, it removes all the NPCs

to make sure you don't get softlocked

Pretty sure you can do most of the game on an Abandoned save if you really wanted to

(barring the main story, for obvious reasons)
