I don't do that, because this is basically a sandbox game, you can play it as you like. I'm against to tell ppl what to do or how to enjoy the game. You don't really HAVE to do things here, it's up to you what you wanna chase. But, for a starter, i think sticking to the story quests in single player mode is a good start to get a grip of whats going on, and it unlocks you a bunch of tech blueprints in sequence, so you don't have to buy them for nanites in the anomaly.

The best way I use is scanning fauna with a fully expanded multitool scanner. If you scan every one on a given planet, you will collect 250 nanites per animal when you submit the discovery.

The best answer to both of your questions when you're brand new and still introducing yourself to the game is to dig shit up.
Buried shit is worth good money early game. This can include some planets that have bones, or salvaged scrap.

Use the visor overlay in your scanner, and look for buried items. Notice that when there is a "damaged machinery" above ground, there is always a nearby "buried tech" item within a few feet. The damaged machinery will have slime of some sort on it - refine the slime enough times and it becomes nanites. Touch the machinery again after you fix it and you might get a "tech upgrade module" - which you can sell to the tech vendors on stations.

The other thigns you will gather is navigation data - you get one every time you touch the red and white spinny flags near buildings. This can be used to buy maps at the station - maps that find "emergency signals" - crashed ships, sometimes crashed freighters (each has 6 cargo bins to raid, some are buried).

And there is the mission board in space stations too - sometimes with great rewards.

well, I can get you an egg from Waletto if you really want one. But I suspect the issue is you haven't yet travelled far enough out of wherever you spawned. Rememeber that the galaxy map also has up and down! There are "themes" in verious areas of the galaxy map, so if you see too much or too little of a certain thing, the best way to find different things is to travel a good distance. The weekend nexus (anomaly) mission is a good way to zip quickly to a whole different area of the galaxy.

the cabinet will stay the same class - so try and find a station with a A or S class cabinet; then go to each planet, save/reload. This "resets" the "wheel" of multitools /

there are a certain "set" per system, and the reload on planets just knocks the one in the set that matches the planet number into the station cabinets.

Alternatively you could also look for A or S-Class cabinets in minor settlements, every planet has some of those, but might take quite a bit to find a higher class cabinet down there if you're unlucky

remember though that the cabinet on the station is different from the cabinet in the anomly, and is different fromt he ones on the surface// so if yo know four or five setltlemts, then you can "reset" the wheel by save/load on planet, then check each of the cabinets to see what the set is.

There is a new scanning device in your multitool, you interact with it to scan for autophage encampments, if this is the thing I'm thinking of.

You may have to do it each time you come back, or it may persist while working with them.

The most recent (trucking) expedition, you had to progress to the point where you finally got your starship back and then could leave and summon the Nexus Anomaly. That happens while the expedition is still going on (I did it to return some of my loot to my regular save.)

in Remnant you cannot leave the planet, it's by design

you can find your ship, but you will be unable to repair it

The #nms-questions channel may have more thorough help, but one possibility is that the procgen has changed and the building once targeted is no longer there. You should be able to retarget the mission from the mission page in the log using the reset button there.

You can't, the expedition planet is stripped of any working structures

go to the mission log and check if you can abandon from there

Hmm, since the Expedition finished, your save should have finished converting to a Regular save if you started the Expedition as a new save, or reverted to the existing save if you started it from the Nexus Anomaly.
I'm assuming the former, as that would leave you stranded on the Expedition planet with no obvious starship, which sounds like your situation.
However, since it has now converted to a Normal save (you should have seen a popup about the Expedition ending, actuallly, that you have to click through), you should be able to see your starship now in your HUD, or else you need to start working on the very beginning tutorial missions to unlock the HUD.
If you continue to have problems beyond that, open a trouble ticket. (This scenario may not have been thoroughly exercised, so HG may not have seen it.)

ah there you go - if you take that pulse spitter out (store it), you'll see "damage potential" decrease. dont worry about damage pot, it's influenced in a big way by the highest damaging tech in your tool inventory (on ships, it adds all of them)
