I've been hunting one single underground creature for an hour now and it WON'T spawn. I've gone through all sorts of POIs and caves and can't find it. The planet has one of those massive worms that show up as scannable but isn't. What can I try as this is mildly frustrating.

There is zero shame leaving and doin’ something more worthwhile. If it’s a planet you plan to focus on, you’ll just find it randomly and facepalm yourself bc of it.

Yeah I've been chasing subterrenean relics to find caves a lot

nah go for beacons, shelters, transmission towers, etc

they’ll carve out land and may expose active caves naturally, and it seems to increase their spawns greatly.

However the spawns are restricted to one specific underground species per cave area

So you’ll have to bounce around…

Your log is your best friend. You access it using esc and opening the log tab. It’s your current missions or significant stuff.

It’ll keep you on track.

tip #2: Be safe in the anomaly. Don’t follow other people or be tempted to join strangers. Trolls do exist… and they’re not fun.

Double check depth where the base is/was, I think it could be considering it "too high" and wiping it out that way.
Had a base on a waterworld where the plants and watertight doors vanished.

It would be treating it as if you built it too high off the surface of a planet, like a low orbit one.
The water just hides that from it being obvious.

There is also a known issue where if you exceed the maximum base range from the original placement of the base computer, base parts will still let you place them but they can't extend the range any further (1000u max from the original base computer placement). They actually are still in the base data in the save file but will no longer render next time the base is refreshed. (The symptoms are the same if you place the base parts too high or too low for the planet's boundaries.)

I've built really deep underwater bases and really high "floating" bases (on the edge of the planet boundary limit). Lol, the "max distance of 1000u from original placement of base computer" is the one I always wind up tripping over 🤣

unironically having a base 1400u underwater is a headache. You’re still half underwater bc the base glitches out and likes to flicker you in and out of water while inside of a building.

One way to get the best stats is to start with a C-class starship and upgrade the class with nanites. At each upgrade, the stats are rerolled and always improve, so the most likely best S-class is one upgraded three times.

At one point, I kept a running count of how many planets and moons each system had (and how they were distributed). This predated the current schema, so it seemed the planets were a 1d6 role, and then moons were at most 6 minus that number of coin flips... I could never get the stats to line up well enough to deduce the algorithm.

Yup, and at times I theorized the moon roll was something like 1d6 with 0,0,0,1,1,2 as the numbers, once per planet, randomly ordered, stopping once the allowable moons were reached. (And changing the numbers to disallow that 2 if only room for 1 moon was left). If the dice are dynamic, it gets way harder to intuit the arrangement 😉

Regular starships and freighters require hyperdrive tech upgrades to be able to reach RGBP systems. An Atlantid Drive (Starship) or Resonance Matrix (Freighter) will cover all systems; there is no need for the previous drives to be installed other than a boost to range (most notable for the Freighter). Living ships only share the Atlantid Drive requirement to reach purple systems.

❗ To reach purple systems, completion of the 'In Stellar Multitudes' mission is required. Obtaining the required drives in any other way, will not work (unless current save is an Expedition17 converted save) .

Note: There's no information in game files that proves the host star temperature and oddities have any influence at all on system planet biome probability chances.

I don't know where to post this and probably many players do this the same way. If someone looking for S class resource hotspots here is a tip. Use a corvette. Fly up to fairly high altitude. Activate autopilot with maintaining current flightpath. Use your survey device and just shuffle the survey device's options and check the class of resources that pop up. When an "S" pops up ..get back to the cockpit fast. Stop the corvette. (Use hotkeys!!) Open hatch and jump out of your corvette and still use your survey device while free falling. After landed just look for the hotspot and finalise scan.

This worked for me very well. Found multiple s class hotspots.

Is anyone else annoyed by how crowded the universe feels? I only explored a couple planets, but so far: every single system has an active space station, every single planet has spaceships frequently flying overhead, most planets have some sort of crewed outpost,... It never really feels like i'm exploring the unknown frontiers of space, but rather a kid exploring their parents' backyard
