Good news is that one shouldn't be too deep, but might have a couple of those horrors guarding it.
Good way to get rid of them is to use the terrain generator on the seabed underneath them, they go poof. Just don't get too close or you have to shoot it in the eye really quick.

If by "save the planet" you mean "know how to get back", one way would be to enter photo mode and take a screenshot, bottom left will show a series of glyphs, those are the portal address to that specific planet
if you don't know what to do with the portal glyphs yet, don't worry, in time you will, and then that screenshot will allow you to return to that exact planet easy peasy

If you go into photomode and see a bunch of odd symbols in the lower left corner that is the glyph address. You can take a picture of that and save it somewhere.
