No ship access till you finish the expedition, meaning no way to get to the anomaly meaning bringing things into the expedition is completely pointless this time around.

Oh, I know. I always use my ships to skip across the planet's surface by using my pulse drive to cycle around the planet's equator in record time while in sub-orbit.
