when you come back to a base, it recreates all the other instances

And if the information on wiki is correct, freighter is the only base where you can build as a high density of refiners, because planetside there are refiner density limits, and corvette is horribly space inefficient

it sounds like they have garbage collection that removes distant objects from memory but they didn't make an exception for refiners

I don't know, but I have many cases where I am standing right beside refiners, I save and quit, that most recent save have all refiner items disappear, but the previous save made seconds prior are all fine

Nor have I seen gas extractors and deep miners disappear either

But refiners and those small extracting machines that uses similar layout all have disappeared on me, I have completely stopped using them primarily due to that

Check if Ground Truth Ambient Occlusion (GTAO) is enabled in Display and Graphics settings. If it's set to Off game might appear very dark in Photo Mode. Setting it to minimum of Standard could fix this issue.

Corvette refinery module is super good, having a portable large refinery mounted on your ship before you even gain access to the standard large refinery is funny

people have reported their save getting corrupted after putting a portable refiner in their corvette; so i would not suggest that; you can put more than one corvette refiner but i'd suggest not on the same wall as they share inventory access and it gets screwy it seems from what others here report

All the modes are multiplayer unless you turn that off in your network settings in game

expeditions change some of the rules of how the game works, puts you in a curated section of the universe, and you can get unlocks for all of your save files that way. plus some nice resources you get to keep if you start the expedition from your main save
