During 1.0 it felt like a proper albeit very barebones survival game, I kinda miss those days. Wish they added a dedicated mode for that, the survival we have now mostly adds tedium instead of true difficulty which is why I‘m using custom settings which still only feel „hard“ during early game.

And abandoned is well…not really the same.

At least you can do that, but while I love current NMS as well, I personally would build a version with the 1.0 loop with just certain elements of current NMS added to it, such as the revamped Sentinels, Derelicts and Autophage etc.

Atlas Rises with those additions would probs be peak NMS for me.

Some of the missing QoL was also great imo, not being able to call your ship resulted in some exciting trips around the planets for me. Or no terrain manipulator, made exploring caves quite dangerous and exciting at times especially with the always predatory crabs down there

But I‘m also not Zen enough to really do a permadeath run, I do get attached to things like cool MT‘s I find.

The idea of PD does sound exciting to me, especially when doing activities like derelicts, but if I got really far on one and build up something i‘m not sure if I could continue playing on that save.

Yes, the Expeditions that come severla times a year are examples of that. Years before there were smaller but weekly Community Events on the weekends, but Expeditions replaced those. There are Quicksilver missions you can start from the Anomaly in the Nexus where you find others, mainly the Build An Outpost (base) missions that happen every few months.

Unless you make it happen, though, NMS is not a highly multiplayer game in practice, in my experience. That's fine by me.

HG manages to time major updates so most of the platforms are getting it day 1

As for subsequent patches, its never easy

Different bugs can pop out on different platforms and HG has a limited manpower to fix those issues

Eventually the situation will stabilize and platforms will be on the same version

it's advised to do that before you start going and doing whatever you want at the very least

i have a friend who is just starting, my base is on a Yellow planet, can he spawn near me or does he have to spawn on a random planet for the "tutorial"

if so how can i get to his planet?

If he already has started a save, after u join group he will spawn near u. Or u near him ( in same system). Depends on who joined who.
