So.. I'm facing a predicament that is increasingly difficult to solve.

1. I've reset my Artemis quest for about 4 different systems that I've travelled to while ... essentially getting lost after I went through the first black hole...
2. Every time I place a Signal Booster down, it seems to accept the new quest start, but then changes to say that the next signal is way too far away and I need to reset again.
3. When I go to the Anomaly and the portal thingie, I only see one Space Station listed and I'm rather sure it's nowhere near the original system that the game started me in.

I just like how you can find neat psychedelic looking planets and fly to them with no loading screens aside from system-system

No game is as visually pleasant and interesting and chill as NMS. It literally can't be beat in it's strong areas

my main issue is that i think almost all features are without any substance, it feels like a gaint kitchen sink of random stuff under the umbrella of "open world exploration game".
above all i would like some depth added to existing mechanics, not new features

Heh, personally I'm still waiting for the day HG adds an alternate flight controls, i.e. changing the rolls from pressing R1/L1 or RB/LB to the right and left movement on the left stick.

It's definitely fairly shallow. But it's also one of those games that reward player oriented goals. You get what you put into it at a 1:1 ratio and doesn't offer much else beyond the grind to get there.

I feel you, a lot of mechanics feels surface level, mostly bc they are surface level

I used to make a comparison to them being wide as am ocean and deep as NMS ocean but now oceans are actually deep :v

When i started playing NMS I was just looking for a sandbox to sink some hours in, nothing specific

NMS not having particularly complex mechanics (at least at surface level, there is a lot behind the scenes) was a good match

the most enjoyable moments i had in nms was at the very beginning where i was stranted and had to get the ship fixed, i felt like there was some real danger both from the elements and the mobs, it was exciting
and a few hours after you unlock the anomaly you are basically god and it becomes super boring, i definitely got the wrong impression

I remember my first survival mode run

I went on a derelict freighter and got a bunch of sacs burst with small mobs

I hid behind a corner and keept shooting with a boltcaster with ricochet module hoping that bouncing projectiles take the most of them out

For me, the difficulty settings gave the game just enough challenge that I like.

main problem is that mobs are still as dumb as dirt, so what if they hit slightly harder and have slightly more hp ?

Imo: increasing enemies damage, hp or costs in general doesn't really increase difficulty, only time it takes to achieve an objective

There are some games that do difficulty well, i know some games that will give enemies additional abilities, mechanics, replace weaker enemies with tougher variants

It could work well in NMS, give enemy ship better weapons and tech, maybe some with really tough shields so you have to use cyclotron balista to break them or spawn more tougher sentinels earlier in a fight

But the main thing NMS tries to provide is free exploration and will not add things that will significantly inhibit it. Not in this timeline.

yeah the game really isnt balanced at all. if you have a well balanced game you can always just remove the challenge for a creative mode or something, but it doesn't really work in reverse. turning the numbers up on something that is basically broken is still broken

Here is a list of different sources

I recommend tackling different ones from time to time, grinding for a long time isn't really that fun

Send frigates on expeditions, do a derelict, check nexus missions from time to time

You will have a bunch of them in no time

And don't be scared of small drop chance, it's not as bad as it seems at first

It always spawns my ship underwater and when I take off proceeds to launch my ship into the stratosphere

Good way to pocket quick cash is getting those lighting crystals from supercell storm planets

other good ways that come to mind quickly, selling fully built fossils seems to give decent cash
freighter missions are always good to have running
there are other things you can find and grind out that give a decent amount of units though I struggle to think of them all.

A good starter way to get nanites is fishing, u free the fish in water and get nanites
