personally, I do it based on attachment, I found a ship I really liked and it was A class, used it for quite a while, struggled to find an S class naturally, so I just decided to upgrade it, best decision I've ever made imo

I always keep a minimum of 85000 Nanites on me, and 10 ships slots. So any time I find a cool looking C Class ship or MT, I can S Rank it, and check SC slots. If they are bad, I can reload

ah that's fair, I tend to be a bit of an achievement hunter/collector so I like trying to go for 100% for what I can, and part of that was an S class shuttle for the title given when you get one, ofc you can build fighters, haulers, explorers, and solars, but you can't build shuttles, so I upgraded the one I had already

yes, given you made a save point from your ship close by, but it is worth looking for at least a little while to make sure there are creature spawns, and if this is the last creature you need to find, any red dot would indicate what you'd want to scan

Faster if the are the pod type, you can get three grass pods off them before you explode them

Otehrwise, an extractor is your best bet

Yah, on a few, I've found (and built bases) on the island outcroppings, but on some others no matter how long I looked I found no land.

Portal travel might be the fastest way to find such islands on those 🤣

Yah, there are competing standards for Save Beacon codes. I use gold for Trading Posts, light yellow for Minor Settlements, purple for Portals, green for Graves (and some other things, need more colors, HG 😉 ), red for Sentinel towers, grey for Abandoned Buildings, teal for fishing spots/aquatic bases

If you can teleport there, it is in your Teleporter Destinations list, so a base is a good thing to use for that. However bases too close to Portals are only visible to you in your own save (won't download to be seen by strangers, though they will appear to folks you Host in multiplayer groups). Also, you only get one base per planet that will be visible to others (the last one you upload is the one that others download when visiting). You can see all your own bases though, and folks in multiplayer groups see all the bases of their Host.
