No, it’s alright to choose survival. The difficulty is raised a little and the stack size for all inventories are reduced by some margins, you may lose your items if you die, but this isn’t game breaking.

At any point in time you can change the difficulty settings if they aren’t locked.

Unless you set network settings off or are on a switch, you are technically in multiplayer. Btw go turn off PvP and allowing others to modify your bases unless you want to be griefed

This is probably not very important but I am one of the 2nd place runner ups from the Waking Titan/No Man's Sky ARG I was the programmer in the Dev team spectrumental games we made the WARE Device game Supersensory.
