Scan everything.
Every station you visit can expand your exosuit inventory/tech slots by one, and when you get access to the Anomaly, every system you visit will allow you one more inventory or tech slot purchase.

Besides that, this game is ultimately about aesthetics. Take it slow, enjoy the view, there are no wrong decisions (besides trading away an S-class freighter for a C-class).
Hang around here and #nms-questions and you’ll absorb all kinds of good info.
Launching the expeditions from your main save is a quick way to get good gear back into your main save.

When too many worlds spawned in the purple systems with robotic fauna, they decided to dial that back. And apparently, on one world I'd build a base on, all the fauna I'd catalogued there have now become extinct. I suppose there's some tale of woe and misery behind the extinction event on that planet that I'll have to find.

you earn it as a reward for completing the expedition and then claim it on your normal save. You can even take your normal save on the expedition.

The easiest thing to rename for the expedition is a waypoint, the little save antennas that give you nav data. Nobody ever discovers those

Well, the limit is pretty big so if are not building a tonof extremaly decorated bases you should be fine
